#masks
This is going to sound really weird, but I wear a face mask as much as I can, because it hides parts of my face I hate and am insecure about, and it makes me feel a little more comfortable with myself, when I’m wearing one.

Current obsession: Nomenclature for the Fierce Deity in Zelda. I think it is cool how the name changes depending on what language you play the game in. And by that I don’t mean translation in itself. There are different implications linked to each name. Let me give you three examples: English - Fierce Deity
Japanese: 鬼神 (Kishin)
German: Grimmige Gottheit (Grumpy Deity)
I think it is really interesting how expectations one has for the character, and quite frankly even perception of the character, can change so much with name alone. The behavior and traits one associates with the character as well as underlying implications about motivations one projects onto the Fierce Deity changes depending on localization.
In English, he just sounds powerful, his name pure strength. He sounds almost neutral. Yes, he will obliterate an enemy, but his name does not give away much else.
鬼神 implies a certain madness to the character. 鬼神  used to be human, a fact reflected in Link wearing the mask. The signs by themselves 鬼 (oni) and 神 (god) imply some evil spirit being housed within. Oni are often compared to demons, so dark creatues with ill intentions.
In German, the very name suggests an unhappy camper. This Deity does not want to be messed with. He isn’t kind, he isn’t there to cause good. The implication is that he is a reluctant helper.
All in all, I don’t think this was intended by nintendo or any of the translators. But it’s a neat detail to think about...

for literal decades, US schools have policed the clothing of young girls and the clothing and hair of black students so meticulously it’s straight up harassment, but now that they’re being asked to enforce a mask mandate in schools, which, btw, is a million times simpler and easier to enforce than these absurd dress codes, they “can’t control students in that way” because they “value student’s bodily autonomy” stfu and tell us with your whole chest that you’re scared of the rich white soccer mom PTA head cutting funding and you don’t think anyone who’s a girl or black deserves bodily autonomy.
EDIT: please reblog this version which has some clarifications!
EDIT: stop reblogging this at all! leave me alone! if you want it on your blog that bad literally copy paste and repost it idc!
