I wanna talk about Marinette’s almost akumatization and the dancing theme tied to it.
*I do want to put the disclaimer that the translation for this episode at the time I watched was not 100% accurate and I don’t speak French. Some things may be slightly misinterpreted due to translation.
I’ll start with Chat Noir giving Marinette a red rose and her tucking it behind her ear. The reason why the animators had her keep a rose behind her ear was reminiscence of Tango which incorporates the use of a rose in its choreography.
Tumblr media
Marinette and Chat Noir even dance on over to André to order ice cream. At first it seemed like they were being giddy and silly. They were experiencing blissful happiness after facing heartbreak and the traumatic events that lead up to that point. People dance for many reasons, one reason is how freeing the act of dancing is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because of Gabriel/Hawkmoth, m both of their freedoms have been surpassed for similar and different reasons. But being together that night, they were allowing themselves to experience true freedom. Love without a mask, love without consequences…until they are reminded of them.
Still, Marinette was willing to not let identities dictate her happiness once more. So they (excessively) kiss. This feeling gets crushed when Chat Noir tells her that this was not a good idea because of his status as a hero (and the fact that he is Adrien). She instantly gets frustrated, feeling that she cannot make the decision to be with someone she loves.
When Marinette gets akumatized, the akuma is placed in the rose. A symbol of love that constantly appears in the show. Monarch told Marinette he was going to give her the ability to unmask people. Masquerades are parties were guests dance and are dressed in elaborate costumes and masks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Masquerades are a popular trope. Typically its two lovers dancing together unaware of who is behind the mask. After the night ends you are left wondering who was the person behind the mask and if they would truly love who you are underneath the mask. A concern that Chat Noir expresses after they kiss for the first time.
Marinette’s look/akuma ability would’ve been influence by Tango and masquerades. Her goal as stated by Monarch would’ve been to unmask Chat Noir. As Ladybug, Marinette is always dancing around her personal life and secret identity. She just wants a partner to join her in that dance-which is why she fears dating Adrien.
Its a dance that she thinks she will fumble through. Constantly worrying about her next step causing her to trip and eventually getting out of sync with her partner.
But Chat Noir knows the dance. He understands the steps. This is why she changes her direction and focuses on simping building a romantic relationship with Char Noir...but at the end of the night the mask would still be there….causing complications and concerns…
Anyways I wish we did get to see her akuma design 😜✌️

hi ash, do you have a fic rec list of miraculous fics that you have enjoyed? 👀 i’ve watched miraculous for years and been a fan but i’m new to reading miraculous fics 🐞❤️🐈‍⬛💚
i can try! i actually don't read a lot of fanfic, but i can recommend a few I've read that I've enjoyed :) most are one-shots.
Experimental Kisses by MireilleTanaka (komorebirei) Summary: Ladybug watched him. Maybe it was guilt, maybe sympathy, maybe a streak of playfulness. Maybe the traumatic akuma experience had softened her up. Whatever the reason, a thought wafted lazily through her mind and out of her mouth. “You know… you’re right. It isn’t fair, is it?” Chat Noir looked up. “I remember my first kiss, but you don’t.” She hummed and tapped her chin, making a show of remembering. “It wasn’t a bad kiss, but we were in the middle of fighting an akuma, so I didn’t get to enjoy it much, either.” Oops—that came out sounding a little, no, a lot more flirty than she had intended. Anyway, if she was going to commit to this idea, she may as well go all in. Rating: T Comments: a very cute ladynoir kiss fic. i really like the way the author wrote the kisses here!
i think it’s time i told you (i’m a fan of your universe) by a_miiraculer, clairelutra Summary: Years after Hawkmoth’s defeat, Ladybug and Chat Noir have a conversation about life, love, and marriage. Rating: T Comments: a WONDERFUL little one-shot where chat noir buys a ring, and ladybug wonders who it's for. ladynoir.
where roses bloom by @carpisuns Summary: “You’re sick, aren’t you?” He drops down to the balcony. “You’re sick because you love someone and … they don’t love you back.” (Love square Hanahaki AU, Marichat centric) Rating: T Comments: i LOVE LOVE LOVE this fic. a bittersweet marichat centric Hanahaki AU that makes my heart feel things. please read it
whose woods these are (I think I know.) by Reiaji Summary: Four years after his future turns to cinders, Adrien is a servant in the house he was meant to inherit. Disowned by his father and abused by his stepmother, his days are filled with drudgery until he meets a masked huntress in the forest behind his father's chateau. As his friendship with Ladybug turns to first love, he dreams of a future spent at her side. Then, on the eve of the Princess's masquerade, he meets his guardian—and is granted a wish. [Ladrien Cinderella AU] Rating: T Comments: magical ladrien cinderella au. it wouldn't be a fic rec list by me if i didn't recommend the fic that i still think about on a daily basis. the poetic writing, the story, the characters, just...AUGH. i cant even describe how good this story is. I'll admit i wasn't into it at first but by the time i got near the end i COULD NOT PUT THIS FIC DOWN. very good please read. multichapter
Eating (nothing but) Affection by crownedcrusader Summary: Some cats won't eat unless they feel safe. Unless someone they trust is nearby, keeping them company. Unrelated: Adrien has pushed away so many cold meals that he can't eat if he's alone. Rating: G Comments: a sweet fic where adrien doesn't like to eat alone. his friends notice this.
Probably Not The Best Idea by @coffeebanana Summary: When Adrien first offered Ladybug his spare room, it was mostly joke. Not once in a million years did he think she'd actually take him up on the offer. After all, he's the only one who's hopelessly in love. Right? For her part, Ladybug never meant to make a habit out of visiting Adrien. But now that she has, well…spending time with him feels safe. It feels right. So why not give this roommates thing a try? Surely it'll be nice, not having to hide her hero identity in her own home for once, even if she has to hide her civilian identity instead. All in all, it might not be the best idea they've ever had, but…can it really be the worst? And if they happen to get a little more than they bargained for in the process? That's just part of the fun. Rating: T Comments: VERY cute premise, excellent writing, ladrien roommates who are obviously in love with each other, WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR GO READ IT. multichapter
œuf ouch owie by miraculousunflower (ominousunflower) Summary: Chat Noir enlists Rena Rouge's help to create an Aspik illusion. Absolutely nothing goes wrong. Rating: T Comments: literally the funniest gd fic I've ever read in my life. I've never had a fic actually make me laugh out loud before and this one did. i still go back and reread it when i need a laugh. it's like a shitpost in artistic form
L'Autonomie by @xiueryn Summary: After three years, Marinette tells Chat Noir who she is. The only problem is that he doesn't believe her, insisting that her and Marinette couldn't be the same person. With the knowledge he's close to her, she tries to figure out who he is. AU. (mari finds out adrien is chat noir and has fun planting clues to make him believe she's ladybug.) Rating: T Comments: a silly ladynoir and adrinette reveal fic. ladybug tries to convince chat noir she is marinette. he doesn't believe her. it's adorable and i love it
i hope this is enough! happy reading ♥

In honor of the episode Elatation
I have a suggestion
What if Marinette did get akumatized?
Tumblr media
Well I was gonna wait but… ah what the heck. Let’s just do it now.
(What if Marinette did get Akumatized in Elation?)
(Spoilers below)
- Everything identical up until Marinette’s outburst, resulting in the megakuma going to her.
-It went inside the rose, and Chat noir realized that this was a problem. But in his panic, this time… he went with thinking instead of impulse
-It was too late, Marinette had transformed into Demasker. (I imagine it’s like a masquerade themed akuma (I imagine a lovely red and black gown and her rose acting like a wand or magic staff to use the power)
-She had removed her earring and moved them into a bag.
-Gabriel will try to give her the power of the Tiger miraculous but realize she isn’t wearing an alliance ring.
-“for some reason I can’t give you additional powers, I will move and give you assistance.” Monarch states
-“Don’t worry monarch, once I have my love, You will get your miraculous. You just sit back and wait like always.”
-Monarch would have been more insistent, but part of him could tell this akuma was different. And he felt that maybe he would finally win.
-“Very well Demasker. Go claim your love! Enjoy your dance.”
-Chat noir jumps back. He needs ladybug’s help right now.
-“what’s the matter My kitty. After I see whose under the mask, we can finally be together.”
-Chat noir is heartbroken, feeling the guilt in having her get akumatized. He runs
-He calls ladybug but no answer
-“Ladybug it’s an emergency… I … I messed up real bad this time.”
____________________________________________
-Tikki felt a chill go down her spine.
-“Marinette is in trouble.”
-They rush to the roof and notice Marinette isn’t there.
-Alya heard her alliance ring go off “Akuma alert”
-Alya looks at the alert and they see the akuma. Tikki felt her heart sink. She knew
-“It’s Marinette…”
-Alya felt her guilt punch her in the gut. That’s why Marinette was gone.
-“Looks like we need Scarabella!”
-“Marinette still has the miraculous.”
-“We have to hurry! Deep down Marinette is resisting him. You need to find them.”
-“I don’t know where she is!”
-Alya scanned through the akuma alert. “I think I know”
____________________________________________
-“Marinette please calm down.”
-“I’m not Marinette! I am Demasker! Now I have powers! We can be together now. No more imbalance. But let’s get that mask off, I want to see those adorable cheek bones”
-Chat noir dodged the Barrage of attacks that would Demask him. As it hit objects or people it had various effects. It didn’t do anything to objects. To people it would show how they really were.
-“I can’t let that hit me.” Chat noir exclaimed. “But at least it won’t do any damage to the area.”
-chat noir tried calling ladybug again… still no response.
-Where was she? She normally would be here in a flash.
-“Is the kitty NOW interested in finding his Lady? Only when there’s trouble?”
-Chat noir had no idea why she was so angry.
-“Marinette please… you need to fight this. Monarch is using you. He is making you do things you would never do.”
-“I’m so sick of people telling me what I can and can’t do. Who I can and can’t love! WHY CANT I HAVE HAPPINESS ONCE!?”
-Chat noir can see the tears drip past her mask
-He left. He couldn’t fight her as chat noir.
-He went to the sewer and detransformed
-“we can’t just leave her like that.” Plagg told him
-“I need to wait for ladybug. I will transform again when she shows up.”
-“We can’t do that. We don’t have time”
-“I can’t fight her Plagg…”
-Adrien dropped to his knees. Tears streaming down his face.
-“It’s my fault that she’s like this.”
-Plagg hugs his holder
____________________________________________
-Monarch contacts Demasker and tells her to find chat noir later and focus on getting Ladybug
-“Don’t worry about Ladybug, she is a non-factor. I need to focus on chat noir.”
-“She is a factor! If you underestimate her it will stop you from getting the miraculous.”
-Part of Marinette’s mind rang at that statement. What was she doing!? Hunting down her meow meow and promising Monarch her miraculous and chat noir’s.
-Oh no no no, she couldn’t do that. But she did realize two things.
-1. Monarch can’t read her mind or her identity would have been revealed
-2. That There was a Better way for her and chat noir to be together.
-“Monarch, I have an idea. I guarantee that we can get all the miraculous together if you follow my plan.”
-Monarch felt his irritation turn to jubilation. He couldn’t read her mind but he can tell from her feelings she was genuine.
-“I’m listening.”

Untitled spy!Marinette draft
Marinette Dupain-Cheng is a seemingly normal girl with a normal life, who occasionally masquerades as the super heroine ladybug, right? No. 4 years ago she transferred to Collège Françoise Dupont from the elite boarding school known as The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women obviously the newly formed French division, to the rest of the world it is known as an elite boarding school one could only get into if they were extremely rich or extremally smart, in actuality it is a school meant to teach the next generation of spies.
In a school where you defuse a bomb in gym class and everyone has to learn and speak fourteen different languages, Marinette thrived. She was smart, extremely so, calculating, athletic, and she could kill a man in eighteen different ways with a pencil, all of her qualities made her the perfect person to infiltrate Collège Françoise Dupont.
From what she’d been told this was a practice mission, sometimes she wondered if that was true considering how long she had been here. For 4 years it was her job to watch, to look for anything that might make it harder to keep the public safe, to find political corruption, or acts of terrorism. Shockingly, she found political corruption on the first day of school, when Chloe had first targeted her, unfortunately the organization failed to do anything about it because there were no long term affects to the public, Marinette thought that was stupid.
Even so Marinette was a good spy, every move was calculated, every word, every action had a purpose. One thing Marinette hated though, were the lies, more than anything she hated lying, But one can’t be a spy if you can’t lie, that's why every lie she told held a bit of truth. Her name really is Marinette just not Dupain-Cheng, Tom and Sabine are her parents, just not bakers, not professionals anyway, though their treats somehow became the best in Paris, one would suppose they are bakers now but still spies.
She wasn't as clumsy as she made herself out to be, and truth be told she didn’t have a crush on Adrien either, Alya just caught her staring at him one day and she had to think quick. Something about him caught her attention, but she couldn’t pinpoint why she still cant, and that frustrates her. The stuttering around him was an accident she decided to roll with to make the crush thing more believable. And despite having a hatred for lies and despite what her friends would tell you, Marinette was an amazing liar, she just didn’t try when with her friends because she knew they were trusting enough to know that if she wanted to tell them the truth she would in her own time.
Alya is Marinette's best friend, she’s tough and smart, most importantly she’s a good person who wants to help, Marinette had considered once or twice, asking to recruit Alya to be a Gallagher girl, she would have taught her everything she knows, There are many things Alya can do, Marinette had seen many qualifications first hand, she was resourceful, she knew how to investigate, she was cool under pressure, but if there is one thing Alya Cesaire can’t do, it’s keep a secret from Nino, her boyfriend.
Becoming Ladybug had been a shock, never once did Marinette consider the possibility of magic being real, she had always relied on facts and things that could be proven right or wrong with a bit of investigation and maybe a bit of hacking (that may or may not be completely legal), because the difference between belief and fact for a spy could mean death. Nonetheless magic was real and she was using her powers for good, though she did send a detailed report about the akuma attacks she just left out the part about her being ladybug, that was something just for her.
Something about Chat noir made her wonder if he was a spy too, though his mannerisms told her he was a class clown type, when he got serious there was a mysterious vibe about him, he was sneakier, almost hyper aware of everything, and when he got mad he was almost scary. He spoke multiple languages too, Mandarin, which Marinette was currently learning, but for some reason it is just difficult for her to grasp, Japanese, and surprisingly morse code. What teenager learns morse code for the fun of it?
He’s really good at hand to hand combat, though Marinette wondered if it was natural ability or if the miraculous had something to do with it, she never saw an improvement in the abilities she started with, she assumed they were natural, but one should never assume with the miraculous.
Despite it all, Marinette was happy with her life in Paris and even wondered what life would be like if she wasn’t a spy, sometimes she debated quitting spying all together ands just living a normal life, but she loved spying it was what she was born to be, literally. She just wished akumatized villains would stop showing up at the most inconvenient times…like right now.

Ladynoir July 2023 Day 21: Masquerade

--
“Marinette, there you are!”
The only thing Ladybug had a chance to do was suck in a startled breath before Alya’s hand landed on her shoulder.
It had all started when Lila decided to throw a huge Halloween masquerade. Marinette hadn’t intended on going. In fact, she’d been completely prepared to spend the night at home, watching movies and feeling sorry for herself. No amount of pleading on Alya’s part had been enough to make Marinette want to attend a party being thrown by Lila, of all people.
She’d only been partway through her first movie when a special report came on tv saying that there was an akuma loose in Paris. Normally Marinette would’ve been a little irritated at the disruption to her night, but not tonight. Far from the opposite. She’d been grateful for something to do.
But Ladybug hadn’t expected the akuma to lead her and Chat right back to Lila’s party. And she really hadn’t expected to see a bunch of her classmates staring back at them in surprise when they got close enough to try and find the akuma. And she really, really hadn’t expected that anyone would recognize her…
“I thought you weren’t coming! You sneak! You were just trying to throw me off track so you could surprise me, right?” Alya said, laughing and throwing her arms around Marinette. “Wow, you look fabulous! Did you make that Ladybug costume yourself? It’s so good!”
“Uh – um – uh –” Ladybug stammered.
“If I’d known you were coming as Ladybug, I would’ve made you make me one too! We could’ve been matching Ladybugs!” Alya said, pouting a little as she pulled back. “I mean, my costume looks fine, but it’s nothing like yours.” She gestured to her own costume, which was a vampire.
Ladybug just stared at her. She knew she should be saying something comforting about Alya’s costume, but she’d forgotten how to speak.
Alya didn’t seem to care; she spun to face Chat and exclaimed, “And you even made Adrien a matching Chat Noir outfit!”
“Uh – um – uh –” Chat stammered, just as eloquently as Ladybug had. His eyes were huge.
“A-Adrien?” Ladybug whispered faintly.
“God, you two look so amazing together!” Alya gushed, giving Ladybug an unsubtle wink. It was obvious that she thought Marinette had secretly cooked this up. Ladybug just stared back at her in stunned silence.
“Dude! That is an epic outfit!” Nino emerged from the crowd, beaming. He was also dressed like a vampire to match Alya, complete with fake, sharp fangs that he clicked together excitedly as he examined Chat. He even went so far as to walk a full circle around the silent Chat, looking at him from every angle.
“I can’t believe you told me you weren’t coming,” Alya said, nudging Ladybug none too gently in the ribs. “And all this time you were planning to come here matching Adrien.” She hissed that last part in Ladybug’s ear. “You owe me all the details, girl!”
I – uh – ” Ladybug couldn’t seem to make her brain work.
“It was a secret. We, uh, thought we would surprise everyone. And I wasn’t sure right up to the last minute if I’d be able to come,” Chat said. His voice was a little higher pitched than usual, but he managed to make himself sound somewhat normal.
“I’m shocked your dad let you,” Nino said with a snort, and Chat smiled weakly.
“I snuck out,” he said, and Ladybug was suddenly, 100% sure that that wasn’t a lie.
Because Chat was Adrien.
“Well, come on then! We need to get inside and party!” Alya grabbed Ladybug’s arm, linking them together. “Adrien, you probably only have so long, right? We need to make the most of our time!”
She literally dragged Ladybug up the steps and Nino followed, dragging Chat Noir along. Ladybug was just in too much shock to do anything but let it happen.

─────── RISE AND FALL.
‣ the thorned mistress . 001
Tumblr media
The rose is now bloomed beautifully, now comes the hard part... It's Withering.
Despondency spread across the far depths of Wither and onwards. Every shadow holding host to dangerous beings of all shapes and sizes.
Its ruler was a complete careless tyrant who cares not a fig about the subjects he was supposed to rule with confidence and skill.
His incapability to listen to the people brought their rebellious acts to his doorstep. But attempts were met with disappointment to most for all those who attempted such rebellious masquerades were placed in a high level of pure bloodshed from left and right.
This continued on and on until one clan finally stepped up and took the job. The clan everyone had assumed was on the side of the unforgivable tyrant came forward to bring the sunshine back to the empire. The clan of the phoenix's rise to power was not taken lightly.
The charlatans' were praised and given the throne with much delight. They who were graciously ill-judged by most illuded the man no one could and killed him brutally.
This deception earned them the throne and the traditions. After all, the Misherus freed them from a tyrant's grasp and killed him...or did they?
There have been many rumours that in actuality they didn't kill the emperor, rather kept him for other reasons. But these reasonings found no proof and were quickly dismissed by most who just refused to think on it anymore.
But this admiration and adoration was short-lived. For the longer the Misherus stayed intact on the throne, the more the people noticed traits that were not exactly the most liked parts, especially those of the elders’ points of views. An example would be the secret tests the Misherus' candidates for the throne. Every single one of the children were asked to do these dangerous awakenings just for the sake of an heir and not everyone enjoyed the traditions. Not to mention, they openly kill the daughters because they call them disappointments.
So now at present day, most started plotting against them and joining forces. Specifically the Damaris clan and the Tsuki clan joining together. Hiroshimas were part of the Misherus side while Hellfires remained quiet and did not go around but people assumed they are part of the Damaris clan's many allies for they all knew Akuma HellFire could barely fathom Roman Misheru. Now comes the last clan, most do not remember the name of it nor seen it. It has one last sole survivor. The female known as Yashira Misheru, wife of Roman and mother of his children.
Now this is where the story begins. Yashira was now pregnant with their second child. Their first had been triplets, all males as the elders enjoyed. Now was their second and it seemed it was another batch of triplets. This excited Yashira's husband who loved her with all his heart, but also worries them both. There was a possibility that one of these triplets in her belly could be a female and that was against any of the elders’ strict perspectives.
Roman runs now, the sounds of loud pained cries come to his ears. He had been alarmed at the news. It was early. Too early. She's only six moons into her pregnancy but now she's giving birth?
His running steps were heard as he shouts for everyone to move out of the way. Beads of sweat glisten on his skin as he stepped inside of his wife's chambers where a midwife sat helping his wife. Yashira's purple hues meet her husband's blue ones, her teeth were sunk onto her bottom lip while her hand lifts up, it was a sign that she wanted comfort and comfort he gave.
Roman stooped next to the bed, his fingers clasping hers. Her fingers gripped his tightly the moment they meet as she tried her hardest not to scream in pain or agony. Roman was quiet next to her. They were both holding onto the hope that she would make it out of this. Hope that the elders’ wishes would be met.
The first child comes out, then another, then the last. This was the one that mattered. Roman's eyes pick up the features and the look of the midwife's horrifying discovery reveals everything.
The last one was a daughter.
Even after the birthing was over, Yashira was still not calm or okay. For she had been taken by surprise and because of her daughter's reveal.
They'd kill her. They would. She has made haste to hope that the midwife would not mention the daughter to the elders, but the elders came quick and swift. They saw the disappointment and announced her execution soon. Yashira begged for mercy for her daughter but that too was ignored.
They would not change their mind. The execution would happen. Whether the couple liked it or not.
Now Yashira lay on her bed, her daughter sleeps comfortably on the space next to her. She reaches out and touches the soft skin that knot together in a sensitive way. Feeling her softly, a little more upwards and she could feel her heart beating from the head. Such a feeling brought her life...but such a child was not allowed to live. Her tears prick when she remembers what the elders told her. Do not name it and don't get attached. She will die in a day's time.
A day's time. They picked that for they knew she wouldn't have the strength to head to the execution and stop it. She begged Roman to do it for her, but even he simply does not answer. It hurts to think that such a young life would be brought downfall so fast.
Suddenly movement is heard from the window. A tap first, then a movement. Easing one's self into the small gap of the window and a male enters. His black hair glistens in the moonlight as he steps forward. "Yashira?" Akuma's voice is soft and quiet for he wasn't supposed to be here. Not now, not ever.
Yashira's eyes meet his red hues. A smile playing on her lips while she attempts to stand up, only dropping and flailing into Akuma's arms. "Akuma...what are you doing here?"
"I heard you went into labor." Akuma's tone was serious and concerned over her. "You should rest." He eased her to the bed as he picks up her fallen hair accessory and places it back on her beautiful white hair. His eyes linger towards the child on her bed, his eyes widen stunned and worried.
"This is..." "A daughter. They plan on killing her tomorrow and I...I don't know what to do." Yashira's eyes were filled with tears, it pained the male to see her like this. He wiped her tears as he sits next to her.
"May I?" He wanted to touch the child just once. Something about this little one was... interesting. Her aura, her magic within it was interesting.
Yashira allowed him to and he does. The moment his fingers just make contact with skin he automatically pulls back, a power beyond imagination pained him as soon as finger made contact with that skin. A pain was so great that Yashira was startled when he moved back, paralyzed for only a moment's time but it was noticeable to anyone.
"Aku?" "This child is powerful." He speaks, his voice low and filled with a panic. "This one needs to live, Yashira." He urges and it gives Yashira a start.
"Then...how?" "I don't know but you must find a way. This one cannot die." Akuma says.
Now came the execution. Everyone was here. Nobles gathered and commoners. Everyone was in a heap of pity and misery at the sight of another execution.
But an execution would not happen. Not today. Roman stands uncomfortably in front of the many nobles. He had a front row seat to the death of the child he helped make. His azure eyes are fixated on the fire. The fire that would kill the child quickly. His fingers lock onto the chair's arm the moment the elders enter holding the child. He hated this. He did not want this. His daughter will not and should not die.
A quick display is made. A slash of a blade. Gasps all around when Roman gets up from the position he had fallen from, arm holding his youngest child with a new level of protection. His sword gleamed with crimson, the blood coming from an elder whose arm now lay on the pavement. His voice is firm when he speaks. "I will not allow you to kill my daughter."
The elders are baffled. The crowd is horrified. The Devil is impressed. Roman takes the child and leaves.
"Well done." Akuma says to no one in particular as he disappears to return to his den.
Roman returns to Yashira, resting tired from all the crying she'd done that just stopped moments ago. "Yashira." He calls out softly. His wife's eyes open, red and puffy as they meet the bundle in her husband's arms.
"Roman...?" She sits up, her fingers reaching for the bundle that she needed to see, to feel. Her lips trembled. "How...?" She croaked out, tears streaming.
"I may have sliced off an elder's arm to take her." This made Yashira jerk up. "What?!" "It was either that or her getting killed Yashira."
His wife was quiet, too shocked to say anymore. Minutes later, she takes the bundle and hugs it. Not too tightly for the baby was still young and could get killed by just the slightest pressure.
"What should we name her?" Roman's voice is kind and warm now. He sits next to his wife, fingers caressing the his daughter's delicate skin.
"Sorana Duvessa Misheru."

Blue's been having a bad day. First he get's called a crybaby by some strangers, then he gets yelled at by Pico for breaking an expensive vase, could it get any worse? Yes. An Akuma flew over to the gangs house, nobody noticing. Meanwhile, Amber is in her room when she finds a strange box with a half masquerade mask inside. Amber puts it on, and it camouflages into a mini visor as what appeared to be Mint Choco Cookie appeared in front of her.
"Eh?"
"Do not worry. I am the famous Mint Choco Cookie. When you need to transform, say "Mint, get classical!"."
"Okay.."
Meanwhile...

So I am really bored from not doing during Summer Break and I thought "what if I did the Tumblr thing by making an AU lol" so here I am! BTW, I'm not going to be making fanfiction out of this (too much effort), it's just going to be one of those old school, throwing my ideas out there sort of deal. Soo
Everyone is a monster but Alya AU (I can't think of a better name, sorry.) In this AU, Alya discovers that her friends and classmates are secretly supernatural creatures. The AU starts around Season 2.
(Inspiration: @justanotherpersonsuniverse there is other magic AU, that one is way better than mine you should read it. I also took some ideas from a sorceress Marinette AU but I can't find it)
Alya/Rena Rouge - Human
Still a journalist, Alya is now obsessed with supernatural stuff instead of superheros. She is also the protagonist of this AU because I say so
Although Alya is still interested in Superheros, she considers their existence proof of the supernatural
This rabbit hole all began when Trixx first words to Alya were "Aww, I got stuck with a Human! Why can't I get a Fox spirit again?" Ladybug had to shush her before Chat Noir and Alya could press for details, but even she could tell Alya already got some ideas
Trixx lasts holder was a Huli-Jing by the name Da Ji and, yeah, look her up. Trixx is also responsible for starting the Masquerade around the supernatural world, and the Masquerade inside it (Humans don't know anything, Magic Humans know everything, Vampires know some stuff, and everyone else are only aware of their supernatural faction). Now, Trixx is influencing Alya to break the Masquerade because she thinks it is the key to defeating Hawk Moth.
Rena Rouge kept her miraculous, in this AU Ladybug left before Alya could give it back. Marinette trusts Alya, but she isn't sure she can trust Rena. Meanwhile, Chat dosen't trust her at all. Anyway, since she is a full time hero now, Alya is dedicated to instigating the supernatural, which is surprisingly hard because Trixx refusrs to tell her things she dosen't know (Them's the rules!)
Marinette/Ladybug - Witch
Before she became Ladybug, Marinette was one of the most talented child witches in basically the whole world. Her father's side of the family are a long line of French alchemists that learned to hide their potions inside food, while her mother's side of the family are a long line of Chinese spell casters. Also, her grandmother is an Italian Witch. Basically, Marinette is kind of like Harry Potter but OP and more famous and with a living parents.
Master Fu really didn't know Mari was a witch because the Guardian Order is hiding themselves from everyone despite being magic humans. Tikki was really scared of a witch getting her hands on the strongest miraculous so she made Mari promise she wouldn't use magic while as Ladybug
Both of Marinette's parents know she is Ladybug and support her because she deserves it. Also, everyone in the witch world knows Marinette is Ladybug? But normal humans don't, and neither does Hawk Moth. Basically, everyone in the witch world is ID from birth so if Hawk Moth was a witch everyone would be on his back.
I'm not entirely sure how Alya figures out Marinette is a witch, so lets just say something similar to gang of secrets happens early. Marinette's friendship with Alya becomes strained, and the only out is Marinette telling her about her powers. Mari isn't very supportive of Alya's investigations, because it goes against Witch world law, but if Trixx is okay with it then she guess its okay?
Ladybug is so overpowerd in this au! In the Style Queen episode, instead of Plagg beating her, Ladybug just goes "I don't have a choice!" and uses magic as a superhero for the first time. She forces the Lucky Charm to instantly create one of her Dad's ice potions and just yeets it at Style Queen, which freezes her in place. She then uses a Destruction spell (basically a less powerful cataclysm) to remove the barrier around the Akuma and the rest is history! Although, after Ladybug de-transformed, Marinette faints from exhaustion. Tikki thinks that using magic with a miraculous might be draining even more energy from it's caster than normal and she makes Marinette promise again to never use magic as Ladybug, even if it's an emergency. Mari agrees... with fingers crossed.
Adrien/Chat Noir - Dhampyr
Adrien is half Vampire, half Human. The Human is Emilie and the Vamp is Gabriel. Gabriel really wanted to turn her into one, but she had to be willing in a blood sharing ritual.
Most Dhampyrs have a weaker version of their parent's vampire powers but Adrien straight up has ZERO powers. But he does have some vampire weaknesses, which Gabriel uses as an excuse to keep Adrien locked inside the house.
Vampire society is like Vampire: the Masquerade but less depressing. Vampires believe that they rule the night, and are ignorant of of most supernaturals. Of course, there are always rumors.
Plagg thinks it is absolutely hilarious that his new holder is a powerless Dhampyr. He told Adrien that if he wants his powers so badly, he could get himself killed so he can back as a real Vampire (which is apparently a thing that can happen). Adrien does not appreciate the joke. Also, Chat Noir does not have any vampire powers because a miraculous can only enhance what is already there.
Alya is on to him, she heard that he is allergic to garlic and silver, and that last allergy isn't a thing. She also learned he gets heat strokes easily and considers it proof that he is a Vampire. Marinette dosen't believe it because he can eat human food (Vampires can only eat blood, but not Dhampyrs) and he hasn't shown any vampire powers yet. Although she really disagrees because she has a crush on him. Anyway, Adrien is actively trying to uncover his father's secrets in this AU and since I have no idea how he is doing that he has no idea either.
Nino/Carapace - Half-Djinn
Nino's father is a human and his mother is one of the Djinn, which is the same thing as a Genie. When his father still lived in Morocco, he found a lamp in an oasis that summoned his mother (which is apparently a bit more accurate then being trapped but not by much) and wished for children. His mother granted his wish, and lived with him for a bit. However, it is against Djinn law to mingle with humans, so when their relationship was found she was removed in punished. Nino's father fled to Paris in order to avoid his own punishment for interacting with a Djinn.
That was really sad, so uhh, Nino has magic water powers! He can create water, make mist based illusions, and some other stuff! His magic isn't as broken as Marinette, but it is a lot faster since Marinette needs ingredients or spoken spells with hand signs but Nino can just... snap his fingers and do magic (Mari is so jealous when she finds out).
Alya dosen't suspect Nino to be a supernatural at all because he seems so... normal? But Marinette catches him purifying a dirty river during a class hike and tells Alya. Alya dosen't want to believe her, dosen't want to believe that Nino is lying, but she decides that finding out is Rena's job.
Rena Rouge stalks Nino to his house (which is bad but he did the same thing in Rocketear so whatever). Just as Rena starts spying into his window, she catches Nino making some mist illusions to entertain Chris. And before Alya can process what she is seeing, Chris starts shooting water out of his hands! Alya demands an explanation from Nino the following day, so he tells her the story from the first bullet point and... yeah. Alya apologizes to Nino and explains that she was scared him hiding things from her, so Nino promises to have no secrets from her from now on.
Wayzz isn't sure about a half-Djinn getting a miraculous, so he tells Nino to not use his powers while transformed. Nino agrees... and promptly disobeys him! Unlike Marinette, using magic while transformed dosen't hurt Nino, so he is free to shoot water at bad guys. Chat Noir questions how he is doing that and Carapace says "turtles like water?" Ladybug is annoyed, but since it helps the team it can't be that bad right? Nino using his water powers was the tip Hawk Moth needed to realize supernaturals are using the miraculous. Also, Nino is a full time member and gets his miraculous before Chloe in this AU because I said so.
Chloe/Queen Bee - Werewolf
Chloe's mother is now descended from French nobility that lost power during the Revolution, and Audrey encouraged her husband to become a politician because she wanted to live like a Queen. Also, Audrey's family are LITERAL MAN-EATERS!!! Man-Eating werewolves.
Most werewolves in Europe died out around the same time most wolves went extinct there, but the ones that managed to hide survived into the modern day. Chloe's family survived because they used their wealth and power to feed on the populace without anyone ever knowing.
When Chloe promises to become nicer in Despair-Bear, she actually stays acting nicer (with a mean streak) after the episode. I am restoring Chloe's character arc.
In Queen Wasp, instead of revealing she is a superhero to Paris, she reveals she is a Werewolf! And she attacks her mother, forcing Audrey to reveal she is a Werewolf!! Alya is losing her mind, Marinette is losing her mind, the Witch world is losing it's mind and going over doomsday scenarios (too many people saw the transformation for a forget spell to be used, the transformation was recorded on live TV and posted on the Internet, some of the people that saw are suspected Supernaturals that barely care about the Masquerade), the Vampire world is losing it's mind and realizing that they don't rule humanity, its crazy!
After going on a small rampage, Chloe transforms into Queen Bee in an ally way and props herself up as Paris new superhero that will "capture all the werewolves"! Team miraculous are scratching their heads on who she is, but Chloe immediately reveals her identity to Adrien so he can tell her parents she isn't coming home. I have no idea how the rest of the episode, or season, is supposed to go because Chloe blew everyone up!
Okay I was going to put the villains down here but this post turned out a bit longer than expected... which means there will be a next time!

Miraculous Masquerade
Chapter 1: Wasn't this all hypothetical?
Summary:
It was one of the occasional mornings that Marinette actually arrived to school early that she was cornered by the unusually ecstatic duo, Marc and Nathaniel. Next thing she knows, her class has permission to put on a school-wide event with the proviso that the class organise it. Despite everything she already has on her plate, she somehow finds herself elected to take the lead on this event - but the stress of added responsibility pales in comparison with having to work side by side with her second-in-command, especially when they volunteered for the role.
My story for the ML Big Bang Event 2021. @mlbigbang

The penultimate chapter is here!
And just before the end of the new year.
There were some hiccups, technical difficulties and other things that delayed this part more than I anticipated.
Shout out to @asongeverlasting for beta reading for having such incredible patience with me.
Check her writing out on AO3 as Ramblingwren
(Master post)
(Read the fic in a more condensed on Ao3) (Currently up to date)
If you do like the story, Comments and Reblogs are greatly appreciated.
But before all that.
Thank you.
This story has been going on for over 2 years now and yet so many of you have been sticking by and reading it. Seeing all of the comments, fan art, and tags has really made making this Fic worth it. Its also the reason that I want to make sure this ending pays off and delivers the joy to all of you that your support and kindness has given me. So be aware that the next update will be the big finale.
Alright enough Camembert,
Enjoy the dish in front of you.

Fu started to stumble but quickly caught himself.
“Master, are you alright?”
Fu held up his hand.
“I am fine, Wayzz. It was nothing more than a dark shiver in my spine that threw me off balance. I just need to not let myself get rattled,” Fu assured
The turtle Kwami did not like the sound of that one bit.
“I don’t think we should be out in the open like this. Even if you can transform,” Wayzz insisted.
Fu’s expression turned stern.
“Sadly, I don’t believe that is an option anymore. Right now, we are in the thick of it. So until we meet up with Ladybug and Chat Noir, we must push forward”
Wayzz sighed.
“I understand the situation is dire, and communication with Ladybug is next to impossible, but you can't forget that you are the guardian. If something happens to you…”
The old man saw the worry on his small companion’s face. He took the kwami into his hand.
“I know you are concerned, but the reason I can be so sure is because I have you as my partner,” Fu said reassuringly.
Wayzz smiled at the comment.
“Very well, Master, then let us proceed on…”
Fu paused as he heard the sound of approaching footsteps behind him.
“Seems we have company.”
“Master, remember you said you only had 10 minutes while transformed.”
“Not to worry Wayzz, I won't need to transform.”
The elderly man prepared himself with a calming breath.
He turned to the direction of the sound, where he saw what appeared to be an owl themed akuma, armed with multiple gadgets approaching.
Fu started to stretch his arms and legs, preparing for the threat as it rushed towards him.
“It has been well over 50 years since I've used this in a fight. Lets see how my Mirakung Fu holds up.”
The owl akuma went to his belt and grabbed an owl shaped projectile. Throwing several of the razor sharp weapons.
Fu dodged the first two with side steps and rolled underneath the 3rd with a somersault.
“I believe Marinette mentioned this akuma, the one with gadgets and traps that nearly bested them. Dark Owl,” Fu commented.
Dark Owl didn’t say a word, and the white theater mask over his face hid any expression he might have had. The akuma, noticing that Fu was now in close range, decided to go for fisticuffs.
“You know, I think I read the comic you were based off of,” Fu continued as he effortlessly blocked the punches of the much larger foe.
Though he wasn’t sure how he would take down this opponent without focus. He needed to remember his training
Fu closed his eyes and he could picture his strict mentor. He could see those piercing eyes and forked eyebrows that were always in a scowl. He'd always wondered if that man had ever smiled once in his life.
“Mirakung fu is about overpowering your foe, taking their momentum, their strength, and using it as your own,” the old master stated as clearly as Fu remembered from that day.
Fu could hear the words of the celestial guardian echo in his mind. He waited for his foe to try another sloppy attack.
“You must flow like a river.” Fu took hold of Dark Owl’s arm and turned his back to the akuma.
“Be sturdy like the mountain,” Fu grounded his feet with a broad stance.
"Be swift as the wind, and powerful as a lightning strike.” Quickly as he could, Fu tucked his shoulders and flipped the akuma onto its back with a powerful thud.
“Then be as deadly as the night.” Fu took advantage of the akuma's prone position and executed a series of precise strikes against its pressure points. When he was done, the akuma was paralyzed.
Fu watched closely for a moment to ensure that he had properly neutralized the threat. Once he was certain, he got off of the akuma and bowed.
“We may not have seen eye-to-eye, but your training was very useful. Thank you, Master Su Han.”
Now that he was finished, Fu let out a sigh of relief.
“It is good to know that this fighting style is as good against akuma as it is against other miraculous wielders,” he commented as he tried to recuperate from the strenuous activity. Though he was in great shape for a 189 year old man, he still needed to catch his breath.
“Well executed, Master,” Wayzz praised. “That should keep this akuma from bothering us again.”
Fu nodded.
“Thank you, Unfortunately, We don’t have enough time to ensure that this is a permanent fix. We must hurry and find the heroes.”
Wayzz nodded and the two began heading down the hallway with a quickened pace.
______________________________________________________________________________
Mayura powered through her pain and dashed towards the door, but stopped when she realized the monstrous Horrificator was blocking her path, ensuring that there was no way to get past her.
The Reflekta servants moved in to attack her from behind, but the peacock villainess was not going to let herself go down easily.
She knocked them down with a swift sweeping kick at their legs.
The door is not an option. Looks like I'm going to have to go out the window.
Mayura started for the nearest window only to stop just short of a large purple cloud.
The original Reflekta and Princess Fragrance were standing side by side. Their white masks obscured their faces, but Mayura could tell they seemed smug.
“Cute.” Mayura opened her fan and used all of her strength to send the perfume onto the original Reflekta.
Using that as a distraction she moved forward to Princess Fragrance and delivered a powerful roundhouse kick, knocking her into the perfume cloud and into the confused Reflekta.
Mayura didn’t waste any time moving past them, but found her way blocked by an annoying red robot.
“Out of the way!” Mayura exclaimed as she jumped on top of him to get through the window, only to notice that Simularé had been waiting for her. Disguised as Lady Wifi, the sentimonster flung a pause symbol right where she was heading.
Mayura had hardly any time to react. Without missing a beat, she managed to swing her arm with enough force to change her course and dodge the projectile pause button, but ended up colliding with the wall, missing the window.
“Well that was amusing,” Simularé chuckled. “But you're not going to escape me. So just be calm and hand over the miraculous. There is no need to make this more difficult than it has to be.”
Mayura’s vision was blurry from both her illness acting up and her nasty face plant against the wall, but she could hear Simularé’s not so subtle threat. She knew she wasn't going to be able to keep this up. She needed to think.
Simularé readied another pause to fling at Mayura as she watched the blue villainess use the wall to stand up.
“You really think you can use the miraculous?” Mayura challenged.
The akuma started to move to surround her but Simularé raised her hand, silently commanding them to wait.
“What do you mean?”
“You know nothing about it. You don’t even know how to activate it, let alone use it for yourself. A sentimonster could never hope to utilize the miraculous.”
Simularé pondered that for a moment.
Mayura knew that the shapeshifter’s knowledge was on par with Lila’s, and Lila didn’t know much about the miraculous. She only knew as much as a standard viewer of the Ladyblog. They didn’t know about Kwami, or activation phrases. They didn’t know anything other than the fact that the miraculous Mayura was in possession of was responsible for their existence and that their existence could be taken away with a snap once the amok was within range. Mayura was counting on this. Though in truth, she had no idea if a sentimonster could use a miraculous, she knew that this would be enough to put doubts in the sentimonster’s mind.
“I admit it, I don’t know anything about the magical jewelry. My knowledge is lacking.” Simularé looked down, as if ashamed of their lack of expertise. “You are clearly the expert in the room.”
Mayura felt confident, her head was starting to clear up. She just needed a chance to escape.
“Well, I am glad we can agree on that,” Mayura said, now able to steady herself.
“But that’s why you are going to tell me everything that you know.” Simularé raised her head, staring at her with a malicious grin.
Mayura suddenly noticed that the foes she'd knocked down had recovered and were staring at her.
Mayura tried to take a step back but realized her back was both figuratively and literally up against a wall.
“Now, why don’t we make her one of us. Princess Fragrance? If you would be so kind?”
The perfume akuma moved forward, pointing its gun right at Mayura.
Mayura saw the akuma pull the trigger and jumped up with her super agility, just narrowly avoiding the perfume cloud. At her maximum height, she pushed her feet against the wall to kick off over the perfume cloud and her foes.
She managed to surprise the drone-minded akuma, but as she thought she had finally gotten free… she realized she was heading straight for another perfume cloud!
“What, but how did…” Mayura exclaimed in shock.
Mayura caught a glimpse from the bottom of her eye, and saw Simularé had shifted forms and transformed into Princess Fragrance. She had been played. Was there anything she could do?
Mayura went through the perfume cloud and landed in the center of the room. All the akuma faced her, waiting to see her reaction. She had looked at the ground for a moment, as if frozen. But then she looked up and turned to face Simularé.
“How can I serve you?” Mayura sing-songed, her eyes indicating that she was in a hypnotic trance.
Simularé shifted back to look like Masquerade. Now with a sinister grin.
“Tell me everything you know about the miraculous.”
________________________________________________________________
“Are you sure this plan will work?” Queen Bee inquired.
“When have my plans ever not worked?” Ladybug asked with confidence.
The blonde bee had to concede on that. Ladybug’s plans did always work out.
“If you two could start on that plan I would FUR REAL appreciate it.” Chat Noir called, trying to hide that he was starting to get overwhelmed by the stone golem's attacks.
The other two nodded at one another and went to put their plan into action.
Ladybug used her yo-yo to pick up a discarded backpack. She emptied the bag of its contents and looked to the bee heroine, who had grabbed the fire extinguisher from the case.
Chat Noir realized he wouldn’t be able to hold on much longer and backed away from Stoneheart's boulder-like fists.
“Chat Noir, grab that rubber band and pass it to Queen Bee.” Ladybug called as she moved carefully out of view of the akuma.
Chat Noir looked and saw a rubber band on the floor. He swiftly dove and snagged it, then used his fingers to launch it right at the bee heroine.
Queen Bee caught the rubber band out of the air. She had already tied her weapon to the fire extinguisher. She then pulled the pin and used the rubber band to hold down the release lever. Now active, she swung out her contraption right at the akuma, using the release as momentum to increase the striking force of the extinguisher. The quick-moving projectile caused the akuma to stop attacking and block the canister with his hands. The force of the impact caused the pressurized canister to explode, and thanks to the amount of pressure already released, it was enough to only affect the akuma, which now found itself covered in the white foam and dazed by the explosion.
Ladybug jumped on the akuma’s back and put the opened backpack over its head, zipping it as much as possible to make it difficult for the akuma to remove.
“Chat Noir, if you would please.” Ladybug asked with a smile. “Queen bee, his legs”
“With pleasure Bugaboo.”
Chat Noir charged with his staff and made a leaping strike at the akuma right as Queen bee used her weapon to tie his legs together.
Ladybug jumped from the akuma’s back right as Chat Noir made contact.
The large akuma couldn’t maintain his balance and fell back into the door it was guarding. Breaking it down along with a massive section of the wall and creating a massive dust cloud. And it seemed that the golem was down for the count.
“Strike!” Chat Noir exclaimed with joy,
Queen Bee and Ladybug moved to where Chat Noir was standing.
“Nice set-up, ladies.” Chat Noir congratulated.
“I'm sorry I ever doubted Ladybug. That was awesome.”
Ladybug smiled. “You both did great, but now we need to be ready for the final boss.”
They would need to be ready to face whatever was beyond this busted down door.
__________________________________________________________________________
It was dark and cramped in the place she had been taken to.
Ms. Rossi wasn’t entirely sure where she was. All she could say for sure is that she did not like it. She tried to move but quickly realized her legs were bound.
She had no idea how long she had been out and she had no idea what was going on outside of her little cramped area.
She tried to move her upper body but noticed that her arms were tied behind her back. Someone had tied her up and tossed her in this small cramped area. As she tried to focus on what happened, she felt her mind flash to what she last remembered.
She had been in utter disbelief. The school principal had been showing her all the misdeeds of her daughter. It just didn’t make any sense. There was no way Lila, her little Stellina, would be capable of such things. But, the evidence was right in front of her and it was undeniable. She could remember the pit in her stomach, how she'd wanted all of this to be some sort of sick joke or a nightmare that she could wake up from. The thought of her little angel being anything but a kind-hearted girl seemed impossible up until this rather horrific revelation.
The next thing she knew, her daughter had busted in and confessed it was all true, and then turned the principal into a super villain! It was such a shock, she tried to ask her daughter what was going on and the next thing she knew, everything went black.
Ms. Rossi paused for a moment and thought about it. She felt she had found the reasoning behind her innocent girl’s evil behavior.
‘You act like you actually knew me. You know how much I love masks, yet you failed to realize I was always wearing one around you.’
Her daughter’s words echoed in her mind. Was that really her? Were those her daughter’s true feelings? Had she been playing a role this entire time?
The doubts of what she understood about her own daughter flooded the diplomat's mind. She tried to think about all the times she had spoken with her, all the times they laughed, all the birthdays, all of the vacations, the little girl that was kind and caring was in there. What had happened to her?
“I need to get to her,” Ms. Rossi stated with conviction.
She began struggling with all her might. One way or another, she would get to her daughter. She may not understand what's going on, she may not know how this whole Akuma thing works, she may not even really know who her daughter is right now, but she was certain of one thing.
She finally managed to rotate her legs and hit the door in front of her.
“Mama is coming.”
_____________________________________________________________________
Ryuuko and Viperion stopped in their tracks as the sound of a wall coming down echoed in the halls.
Ryuuko smiled at the sound.
“Well, now we know for sure where the real fight is,” she said as she drew her weapon.
Viperion touched the ground.
“Hmmm… Based on the vibrations… We take a right at this hallway and it should lead us to a staircase that will bring us right to the sound.” Viperion explained.
Ryuuko blinked, caught off guard by his confidence.
“Guess you still have your unique connection with sound.”
Viperion looked at her with a bit of confusion.
“What was I like before I lost my memory?”
Viperion seemed genuinely curious, but the questions were starting to get personal, and Ryuuko was realizing that this boy had a tendency to throw her off her game. She didn’t want to leave him in the dark, though, especially after how he saved her from experiencing what he was currently going through.
“I'll tell you if we walk and talk.” Ryuuko proposed.
Viperion smiled at that.
“Deal.”
The two heroes began making their way down the halls again.
“To put it simply, we only became friends recently. We have met a few times, but we were both more focused on other people. I might not be able to paint you a complete picture of what you were like. I can only tell you my perception. So, go ahead and ask any questions”
“Okay, but why would I be focused on someone that isn’t you? I feel like you are someone that is impossible to get out of my head. The me with his memories probably would agree.”
Ryuuko did her best to conceal her blush.
“We… we haven't really gotten to know each other, and like I said. We were both focused on other people. For me, it was Adrien, for you it was Marinette,” Ryuuko continued. “But that went out the window as those two have grown a lot closer.”
Viperion processed what Ryuuko was telling him.
“Well, good for Marinette and Adrien. Sounds like they figured themselves out.”
“I guess it’s easier to say that when you don’t remember them.”
“Probably, but I don’t see how two people finding happiness should make anyone upset.”
“What about if you liked one of them?”
“Even more of a reason to be happy for them. If you like someone, you should be happy that they found someone special.”
“What if you wanted to be that someone special?” Ryuuko asked with more hurt than she realized. “What if you thought you found someone that understood you for who you are, someone that you could talk to about things that no one else could relate to, but now you see that they have someone more special to them, and now you have to accept that you lost.”
Ryuuko had realized she had never really let herself vent, and it was in that moment that she noticed why it had made her so sad. She'd treated losing Adrien like it was some sort of fight. She didn’t hate Marinette, she was friends with her. She and Marinette had just happened to fall for the same guy, it didn’t need to be some sort of duel for honor. But here she was treating Adrien more like a prize to be won than a person.
Viperion put a hand on her shoulder, causing them both to slow to a stop.
“Well, isn’t that kind of beautiful? You were able to find someone that made you feel so much that you felt sad about it.”
Ryuuko had to admit, as crazy as it sounded, that the snake hero made a very interesting point. Sure, it hurt, and she realized that maybe her approach towards it wasn’t the best, but it was nice while it lasted. She couldn’t really say it was a negative experience.
“And… just so you know, you are someone special. And the next guy you fall for will be really lucky,” Viperion added softly.
Ryuuko felt her face heat up at that comment.
“Now let’s keep going. We should be close to the commotion,” the snake hero said, changing the subject.
Viperion let go of Ryuuko’s shoulder and was ready to head forward, but she caught his hand in hers, holding him back.
“Wait. You wanted to know what you were like.”
“Yea but that can…”
“You are patient.”
Viperion stopped and listened to Ryuuko speak.
“You are constantly making music references when you explain things. You were always thinking about Marinette, and you never let things bother you for too long. You can be strategic but incredibly soft-hearted. You are too self-sacrificing for your own good, which led you into this mess.” Ryuuko’s voice shook with emotion. Viperion felt his heart beating faster as he listened.
“You… are someone I am glad that I started to get to know. And I am sorry I didn’t start sooner.”
Viperion wanted to say something but before he could, Ryuuko summoned her courage and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
“That was a thank you… for the you with memories. Now let's go!”
Ryuuko sprinted off towards their initial goal internally questioning why she did that and leaving Viperion to touch his cheek.
“Oh… I may not remember her, but my heart does.”
He ran to catch up with his speedy partner.
______________________________________________________________________________
“Fascinating. So that is everything?” Simularé asked, sitting back on Masquerade's throne and utilizing their master’s form. They had just listened to Mayura tell her everything she knew about the miraculous.
“That is all I know.” Mayura sang. “Hawkmoth would be the only one to know more than I, except for the guardian.”
“And since you created me, you can’t make anymore sentimonsters.”
“That is correct.”
Simularé stroked its chin.
“So, then how can we utilize this…”
The door collapsed, cutting off whatever they'd been about to say.
Stoneheart fell in after it, almost hitting Horrificator who just barely managed to get out of the way.
A massive cloud of debris concealed the ones responsible.
“Who dares break down my door!?” Simularé roared, impersonating Masquerade perfectly. “Reflekta, Princess Fragrance! Handle it. Horrificator, guard me!”
Horrificator jumped back and moved in front of the throne. Reflekta and Princess Fragrance moved near the debris cloud with their guard up.
A yellow top whizzed out of the cloud and tied the two akuma together before pulling them through the doorway and out of sight.
“What the… Gamer! Robostus! Deal with that!”
The small robot and super-powered gamer were about to act but a metal staff shot out and nailed the robot right in the center of its mask, like a cue stick hitting a pool ball. It was sent flying into the wall, causing the poor akuma to glitch from the damages. Gamer tried to step back, but a yo-yo reached out and circled his legs before it pulled him into the debris cloud. He tried to resist but failed.
“What is going on!?” The Faux Masquerade screamed in frustration.
Just then the debris cloud cleared and revealed three heroes standing with her akuma servants tied up by Queen Bee’s weapon.
“All right, Masquerade, it’s time for the last dance!” Ladybug exclaimed as she stared right at the villain she believed to be Masquerade.
“A purrfect line as always Ladybug,” Chat Noir praised.
The Masquerading Sentimonster stood up from its throne.
“Oh, is it now? You handle a few of my servants, and you think that makes you ready to face me? Don’t make me laugh! You are nothing compared to me!”
Queen Bee rolled her eyes at the arrogant statement.
“Is that what she looks like? I would never be caught dead looking so tacky! Hawkmoth really went low-effort with your costume.”
Masquerade growled at that snide comment.
“Horrificator, stick her to a wall.”
The monster roared before shooting a blast of sticky slime at the Queen Bee.
Thankfully Ladybug thought fast and pushed the tied up akuma in front of the attack just as Queen Bee moved away, causing them to get slimed to the wall in her stead.
Queen Bee pulled back her weapon now that the akuma servants that she had been restraining now had another means of being held down.
“Horrificator, stop being useless and take them down!”
“I got this,” Ladybug stated with confidence. She walked in with one hand behind her back.
Horrificator charged at the three heroes like a rabid beast.
Ladybug moved forward, holding something behind her back, waiting for the akuma to approach.  Just as it was about to strike, she revealed Princess Fragrance's perfume gun.
With a spray, the akuma stopped in its tracks.
“Go attack Masquerade,” Ladybug commanded.
The akuma stood frozen, like a statue.
Ladybug looked at the akuma, confused by its lack of movement.
“Well that’s strange,” Chat Noir commented as he poked the monstrous akuma with his staff.
Masquerade was even more perplexed.
“What is going on?!”
Ladybug pondered for a moment, trying to figure out this conundrum.
“Oh, I get it!”
“Oh? Do tell.” Masquerade said with annoyance.
“Your power takes control of people and makes them into akuma servants. Princess Fragrance's power takes control of people and forces them to follow orders. Since both were used on Horrificator, it caused her to freeze in place, as neither power could overpower the other. The conflicting orders cancel each other out,” Ladybug explained.
Queen Bee was still trying to wrap her mind around that. “Wait what the heck does that even mean?”
Chat Noir pondered for a second. How could he explain this to Chloé?
“It's like wearing a gold dress with orange accessories,” Chat Noir tried to explain.
“Oh gross, that clashes so bad that it doesn’t work!”
“That is kind of correct.” Ladybug stated confused.
Chat Noir delicately moved Horrificator to the side as the team looked towards Mayura and Masquerade.
“You are out of servants. Now its just us against you two.” Ladybug stated with confidence. “This is your last chance Lila. Surrender your akuma or we will take you down.
“Is that right?”
Ladybug was about to approach when Chat Noir suddenly yanked her to the side.
“Chaton what are you…”
Ladybug realized she had almost been turned into energy, as Timebreaker had dashed past them, barely missing her.
“Timebreaker?”
The skating akuma turned around and ended up in front of the heroes, standing in between them and the villains.
Moments later, an artist akuma with a jetpack flew through the front entrance, landing right next to Timebreaker.
“Evillstrator,” Chat Noir growled with a fierce gaze. He still remembered how tough this akuma had been.
“Evillustrator, give us some breathing room. Timebreaker, save us the trouble and take them down.”
The artist akuma drew a large barrier that separated the throne room in two, allowing for Mayura and the faux Masquerade to have a layer of protection.
“Mayura, go ahead and find Masquerade. These heroes are starting to become quite irritating.”
“As you wish,” Mayura responded before running to one of the windows and jumping through it.
“Damn it! Feather bitch is getting away. And now we have more pests to deal with? This is getting old!” Queen Bee shrieked.
“We can deal with Mayura later,” Ladybug placated. “And it doesn’t matter how many there are, these akumatized servants are still a threat."
“You gotta admit, Bugaboo, this whole ‘akumatized servants’ bit is getting kind of old. Maybe Hawkmoth is starting to run out of ideas.”
Timebreaker decided to break up their little conversation by going to tag Queen Bee, but just before she was tagged, a lyre flew in and smacked the akuma in the foot, knocking her off balance and sending her crashing to the floor in a gnarly wipe out. The lyre bounced back out of view and likely to the hand of its owner.
“What was that?”
Evillustrator, having finished his barrier, drew a giant pair of scissors to attack the group. The large scissors opened and prepared to snip but were blocked by the blade of a certain dragon heroine.
“Ryuuko?” Ladybug exclaimed in surprise.
“Looks like we made it just in time,” a voice called out before walking into view, revealing the snake hero.
“Viperion?” Chat Noir questioned in a manner similar to that of Ladybug.
Ryuuko used her blade to fling the scissors upward into the ceiling. “It's about time we found you. This school is like a maze!”
“But right now, we are here to help,” Viperion said as he strummed his lyre.
Simularé saw the two new heroes and felt a rush of dread. Things were not going according to plan. She hoped Mayura would be able to get to their master in time. They weren’t sure how much time they had left before the heroes busted through, and before they were discovered as an imposter.
_____________________________________________________________________
Mayura landed on a rooftop neighboring the school and took a deep breath. She felt incredibly relieved that her ruse worked.
Right before she fell into the cloud, she held her breath and didn’t breathe in the perfume. It had been a massive gamble and she had almost failed. But, she managed to pull it off and pretend that she was a helpful servant.
“That sentimonster is far too dangerous.”
Mayura did have to divulge some information regarding the miraculous to the Sentimonster, as she wasn’t sure how convincing her lie would be if she withheld information. As long as it didn’t try to take her miraculous, then it wouldn't be a big deal. It didn’t matter what she told it, because as soon as she sensed the amok, she was ending that monster’s existence.
The Peacock was making her way across the rooftops when she felt her vision start to blur.
“S***! not now,” she cursed as she just missed landing on a roof and ended up falling in the crevice between rooftops. She thought fast and caught herself, landing on her feet.
She could feel her head pounding from the intense pain. She'd thought she had overcome this earlier, but now it seemed that it was back with a vengeance.
“Need… a rest. Duusu…”
Without finishing she noticed her transformation drop. The sudden release of the transformation had the woman feel a bit of relief.
Unfortunately it was only a brief reprieve and before pain came flooding back. Nathalie felt herself begin to fall, but caught herself by putting her hand against the wall.
“Come on Nathalie, you need to get a hold of yourself,” she muttered to herself. The last thing she needed was for this to happen.
She pulled out her phone and dialed Gabriel. It went to voicemail, which was strange. Gabriel usually picked up when she tried to contact him. She sighed and figured she would leave a message. Even he needed bathroom breaks.
“Gabriel. Things are not going as intended. I will try and locate Lila. She seems to be out of the school. I will report back once things are stable.”
Nathalie managed to force herself to stand up straight. She started to walk cautiously out of the small alley.
“Okay, I just need to find Lila.”
“Looking for me?” a voice called out from above her. “Now why would Gabriel’s assistant be doing that?
Nathalie looked up to see Masquerade, flying in the air with Dark cupid’s angel wings. Gabriel’s partner in crime felt a chill go down her spine. She was supposed to be transformed before meeting Masquerade.
“I… I wanted to discuss with you the details of the Photoshoot you were going to be a part of. The one we rescheduled,” Nathalie lied.
Masquerade descended and the wings vanished as she touched her charm bracelet.
“Oh right, that whole thing. Yea, I decided I'm not interested in that anymore,” Masquerade commented casually.
Nathalie was shocked.
“Excuse me?”
“Well, let’s see. I just went through the worst day of my life, my classmates hate me, Adrien is dating that klutzy bitch who caused all of my plans to fall apart, and even my own mother knows about all of the lies I have told for the last two years. I doubt Gabriel would see much use in a pawn that can't even be liked.”
Nathalie felt a chill go down her spine.
“I see… that is unfortunate. I am sure if I talked with Gabriel he would still…”
“Don’t worry about that, I actually talked with him earlier.”
“What?!”
Masquerade revealed a devilish grin.
“Oh yes, and he was really something. Found out quite a lot of secrets from him. We really bonded.”
Nathalie took a step back, only to bump into someone. A tall figure with pale purple skin wearing a bluish-black pointed shouldered dress suit with white lapels and black and red downward-bent stripes on the front. Each lower sleeve had a white stripe. The figure’s hands were gloved and it wore darker black high-heeled boots connected to its black suit pants. But his face was covered by a white theater face mask.
Nathalie turned around and realized who the figure was — the akuma form of Gabriel, The Collector.
“Gabriel!?”
Nathalie tried to jump away, but the Collector held her in a bear hug. She admitted if this was any other situation this would not be a bad thing. But right now, it was one of the worst feelings. Nathalie tried to struggle out, but she could feel the dizzy spell coming back and the akuma’s enhanced abilities made him easily overpower her.
“Such a strong will, Nathalie. But the bracelet tells me you are hiding a lot of baggage.”
Masquerade raised her hand, revealing the glowing charm bracelet. Which was now dangling with countless charms.
“Release me! Release him. Stop this foolishness Lila!” Nathalie ordered. She knew that Hawkmoth couldn’t stop her now, and while she was like this, she couldn’t remove the amok. So Masquerade and Simularé were going to be running around without a leash.
Masquerade looked at the struggling woman and laughed.
“He will never love you.”
The sentence came out like a punch to the nose.
Nathalie stopped struggling.
“What did you just say?”
“I said he will never love you. Oh, sure he sees you as a valuable asset, a great assistant, but tell me, what happens if Gabriel finds a way to see his wife again?” Masquerade’s words were steeped in poison.
“You think you understand…”
“You want him to fail, don’t you?”
“What? What are you saying?”
“You want to hold him close as his last hope of ever seeing his wife again fades into dust. You want to be his muse, his inspiration, his beloved. But deep down you know he will never ever come close to feeling even a fraction as much love for you as he did and still does for her.”
Nathalie could feel the words cutting at her, but she was not planning on giving this akuma any sort of satisfaction.
‘You are trying to get a rise out of me. It won't work. I won't be your puppet,’ Nathalie thought to herself.
“Oh, you are trying to go strong and silent. Well, then why don’t we hear it from the man himself? Collector. Why don’t you tell us what you think of Nathalie.”
Nathalie felt her heart stop as the akuma restraining her started to speak.
“I will never love you like I love my beloved Emilie. Not even close. You are a great asset, but to say I have any feelings of romantic interest towards you would be deception. I owe you a great deal for everything you have done, and in the end, once I get what I want, I will be sure to reward you, but if it is my heart you are after, then you are sadly mistaken.”
Nathalie felt her heart break as the words beat her over the head. She knew it was true, she had always known. But hearing it, hearing him say it, it was soul shattering.
Masquerade took a mask from her dress.
“Oh, what a shame, but at least you will be useful to me, Nathalie.”
She flung it onto Nathalie’s face.
“You will be the Catalyst for the last part of my plan.”
______________________________________________________________________________
“And that should keep them from misbehaving,” Ladybug said as she finished spraying Evillustrator and Timebreaker with Princess Fragrance’s Perfume.
The two akumas remained frozen in place, now unable to move with conflicting orders in their heads.
“And that incapacitates all your akuma soldiers. You are fresh out of minions, Masquerade.”
Ryuuko picked up Evillustrator’s stylist and tablet, using it to erase the clear barrier that separated them from the masked villain.
The Masquerade mimic turned towards the window that Mayura had jumped through. They quickly began making a mad dash to the hole, only to smack into a new clear barrier, causing the illusion to break and the sentimonster to look like Volpina.
“You know, I happen to be an artist in my free time.” Ryuuko exclaimed. “But I think that is enough art for today.”
Ryuuko broke the stylist and kicked Evillustrator into Timebreaker, knocking them both into the wall.
Queen Bee laughed at that.
“Look at 'em fly like ragdolls.”
“I used a bit too much force on that.” Ryuuko lowered her head.
“Now's not the time for this.” Ladybug interjected. “I know you aren’t the real Lila. So where is she?”
The other heroes except Chat Noir were confused.
“Wait, that isn’t Lila? But that’s her akuma form.”
“Not exactly. That thing isn’t Lila, it’s a shapeshifting sentimonster,” Chat Noir explained.
The sentimonster looked at the group and sighed. It transformed into its more phantom-like form.
“Congratulations on your discovery. Yes, I am Simularé. My master is the True Masquerade. But it matters not. Mayura will be bringing her here soon. And by then it will be all over for you. You will soon fall to the power we have acquired.”
Viperion blinked.
“I'm lost, whose Lila? And who is Mayura?”
Ladybug and Chat Noir looked at the snake hero, confused.
“He lost his memory when a weird akuma attacked us. He… forgot a few things,” Ryuuko explained.
“Hold on, You ran into Oblivio?” Ladybug asked.
“They called themselves, Dead Zone.” Ryuuko answered.
“Really? That’s weird. We never fought an akuma with that name. Sounds metal,” Chat Noir commented.
“It was not, it actually used bubbles and pause symbols.”
“Hmm, well Oblivio was made from Alya and Nino. Could it be that the akuma was some sort of fusion between Oblivio, Bubbler and Lady Wifi?”
“That is my assumption,” Ryuuko answered.
“Wait, they got to fight an amalgamation of akuma? Why did they get to fight something original and we had to fight repeats?” Chat Noir questioned, clearly a bit jealous.
Simularé realized they were being ignored.
“HEY! I AM TALKING OVER HERE!” Simularé screeched in anger.
“Oh cram it mask ghost. You aren’t even a real threat at this point,” Queen Bee snapped. “We just spray you with that perfume and you will be another conflicted ragdoll.”
“Oh please, even if it did impact me, that thing is empty.”
Ladybug sighed as she tossed it.
“Well, there goes plan A.”
“No one answered who Mayura was?” Viperion interjected.
“The blue lady with the feather fan,” Chat Noir said.
“Okay thanks.”
“No problem.”
Simularé felt someone trying to contact them.
“Master? What is it?”
“Simularé, status report?”
“Ladybug and Chat Noir are in the throne room. As well as three other heroes. Queen Bee, Viperion, and Ryuuko.”
“Oh? Well that is fine. Did you find Mayura?”
“I sent her out to find you. Is she not there yet?”
“How unfortunate, it seems she abandoned you.”
“But how? I thought…”
“It doesn’t matter. We need to focus on crushing the heroes.”
“But Master, what about Mayura? What if she…”
“No buts, Simularé. Forget all about Mayura. We will deal with her later. I have gotten a LOT of new akuma under my sway. Why don’t you try utilizing their powers? Wipe the floor with those heroes.”
“…Yes Master.” Simularé obeyed, unable to ignore a direct order from her master.
“Seems Mayura abandoned you. She must have known you will be getting your butt kicked.” Chat Noir commented.
The sentimonster’s mask-like face showed a look of anger.
“Oh, this form will do.”
The five heroes were stunned as they watched the sentimonster grow in size, becoming as large as a building and taking the form of a gorilla.
“Looks like they mean Monkey Business,” Ryuuko and Chat Noir said at the same time.
They both looked at each other.
“I didn’t know you liked word play!” Chat Noir exclaimed with delight.
“It is quite fun to make a witty remark,” Ryuuko admitted. “A friend of mine has been rubbing off on me.”
“Well you are both driving me bananas. We need to focus,” Ladybug interrupted, but with an amused smile on her face.
“Nice of you to…” Chat Noir began before being interrupted again.
“Next person that makes a monkey joke is getting my weapon shoved up their…” Queen bee threatened as she drew her weapon.
“Guys, giant gorilla attack?” Viperion chimed in.
“Right!”
The five got into position, knowing this was going to be a fight they would need to take very seriously.
“Do I have your attention now?” The giant sentimonster asked sarcastically.
“So, any ideas Ladybug?” Chat Noir asked.
“Actually, I might have one.”

How will our heroes fight the new threat?
Will our heroes be able to best Masquerade and her Sentimonster?
Will I be able to actually get that part out before season 4 ends?

Multi-chapter
Chloé Noir by JajaLala
Possibilities lined up before her. If she was a superhero, everyone would love her. She would have parades. She’d be powerful, perhaps more powerful than her parents. She couldn’t wait to tell everyone that she, Chloé Bourgeois, was a superhero! Then she looked in the mirror. Leather. Chloé was wearing not only a full-body leather suit, but on top of that she wore leather gloves, boots and a belt. Leather-on-leather! An atrocity! Even worse, Chloé’s hair was pulled out of its neat ponytail, and had turned into a mess of curls. Chloé spent an hour every morning having her butler straighten her hair, she didn’t want it to revert to it’s natural curly state every time she transformed! The excessive leather did not even spare her head, giving her both leather ears and a leather mask that tinted her sclera blue. If Chloé’s mother, the Queen of Fashion, ever saw this, Chloé knew exactly what she would say: “Ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!” So this is why superheros had secret identities.
Chat Noir!Chloe and a rewrite of the first two seasons. Absolutely iconic, so well written, it’s got fluff, angst, comedy, feelings, and fantastic love square shenanigans between Chloe and Marinette. Couldn’t recommend enough!

Fighting akumas, saving the city, and trying to live a normal life in their spare time just got a whole lot more complicated when newly surfaced feelings are added to the mix.
I love this so much, Chloe getting a second chance, how her relationship with Marinette slowly progresses through their different identities, and tHE LAST CHAPTER!!! IT’S SO GOOD!! Also part of a series!

"One day I promise you I’m going to be able to tell you these things to your face. I’m going to look into your eyes, take your hands, press them to my lips, and tell you everything. Knowing You On Purpose by Emmalylis
When an akuma turns Chloé into a fish and the Miraculous Cure doesn’t turn her back, Marinette has to tend to a very grumpy fish for a week. One thing leads to another.
Premise sounds kind of crazy, but this is both hilarious and heartfelt!
Also gonna mention my fics:
Would You Be So Kind
‘It’s everything I hoped it would be.’ Marinette grins back at Marc. And she knows she shouldn’t jinx it, but these pride meetings were one of her proudest achievements and she can’t help but brag a little. ‘I really can’t believe it’s turned out so well.’
It was at that moment that Chloé Bourgeois walks through the door.
----
Marinette Dupain-Cheng is 17 years old and doing it all - student council, the bakery, her portfolio, and she’s the president of the pride club that she created at school. But her world is turned upside down when her old rival Chloé starts attending the pride meetings. A Chloénette highschool rom-com au - featuring friendships, forgiveness and new feelings that Marinette might be freaking out about.
Multi-chapter, fluff, rivals to friends to lovers.
Walking the Wire
The door opened, but when Marinette looked up she was once again stumped at the sight of Chloé standing in the bakery doorway. The only thing stranger than Chloé showing up at the bakery out of the blue was her… doing it again. Spending time with Marinette, in her parents bakery, apparently of her own free will.
There was an awkward moment when neither of them said anything – Chloé’s arms crossed defensively across her chest, Marinette in shock at seeing the other girl again. There was that look on her face again, the vulnerability Marinette hadn’t seen before or since that night a few weeks ago. She still didn’t know what to make of it.
Marinette suddenly remembered she was working and had to be professional. ‘Uh, hi.’ she said.
Yep. Nailed it.
---
Chloé unexpectedly starts showing up at Marinette's family bakery and their relationship takes a surprising turn.
One shot, 5 +1 times
so what do you say?
Marinette gathers her things and pauses outside the door to take a breath and smooth down her skirt. She opens the door and walks in with confidence.
‘Marinette?!’
That voice makes Marinette stop in her tracks. It’s one she hasn’t heard in a long time, but would recognise anywhere.
‘Chloé!?’
---
Marinette gets into some legal trouble when Style Queen steals one of her designs. Adrien suggests a lawyer friend of his could help. He leaves out that his friend happens to be Chloé.

marinette dupain-cheng’s guide to picking up cute guys
A/N: Chez Vous is real in the DC universe; it’s described as a restaurant but I decided to use it as the name of the café because I didn’t want to come up with one myself. It translates to “at your house,” which basically implies “make yourself at home.”
thanks to @ramos123 for being my beta reader! <3
ao3
“Bet.”
Marinette slapped a crisp 20-dollar bill onto the wooden table with enough force to slosh around the brown liquid in the cup sitting before Alya’s smirking face.
Chez Vous was the name of the café they had been sitting in for the past fifteen minutes. The place had a nice ambience, the quiet chatter of customers and aromatic smells combining to make what was an unusually cozy atmosphere considering the location.
Gotham wasn’t exactly known for being hospitable, but she supposed the fact that it was clearly fashioned after Parisian cafés contributed to the homey feel. It vaguely reminded her of her parents’ bakery as well, so it certainly lived up to its name.
Perhaps it was this sense of familiarity that had her and Alya reminiscing on how far they’d come. It hadn’t been that long since lycée or université—the two were only 22 and 23, respectively—but recalling the good times they’d shared was always fun to do.
Of course, their friendship had momentary blips (ahem, Lila), but the two had managed to sort out their problems eventually. Now that Alya had become more attuned to Marinette’s boundaries and there were no pressing superhero secrets to keep, they knew how to both ground and challenge each other in positive ways. Which was exactly what had caused Marinette to get herself into this situation.
While chattering about their lycée days, Alya poked fun at her once again for what had transpired on the day of the Animan akuma. How could she ever forget that while secretly masquerading as a superhero and locking her best friends in an empty gorilla habitat together, she had somehow helped them end up in a relationship? And now the two were engaged.
This topic somehow lead to Adrien and the stupid puns he spewed both in superhero and civilian form. Alya was insistent that Marinette was charmed by them at some point, to which she replied, No way! They were horrible. Even I could do better.
It was with twinkling eyes that her best friend asked “Bet?” and well, Marinette was never one to back down from a challenge. So after pulling out some spare cash from her purse and setting it down in front of Alya, she raised a brow.
A wicked smirk grew on her best friend’s face, and any lesser person would have faltered, but Marinette was prepared for anything that could possibly be thrown at her.
“Fine. If you’re so confident, I dare you to use a pick-up line on… him.”
As if on cue, the bell at the top of the glass-paneled wooden door jingled, and Marinette followed Alya’s pointed finger right on time to see a very attractive man walk through.
He had a confident stride, but not an arrogant one—his aura was one of someone who was assured and knew exactly what they were capable of.
Despite his seemingly laid-back disposition, she didn’t fail to notice how his eyes darted around the room cautiously, the same habit she had gotten used to doing after she had been given the Ladybug Miraculous. Then again, this was Gotham, so being on constant guard was only natural.
One thumb was hooked in the pocket of his jeans while the other moved up to ruffle his hair, and wow did he have nice hair.
It was perfectly coiffed, and if she didn’t have experience with hairstyling due to her career she would’ve thought it was as effortless as it looked. Most models would kill for the natural luster his locks seemed to have, and even from a distance she could tell that anyone who decided to run their fingers through his hair would be met with softness.
And she didn’t even want to get started on his face. From his glowing skin to his strong jaw and pretty eyes, she refused to believe someone so attractive could be real. It was unfair, really.
“...inette? Marinette? You good there, girl?”
A snap in front of her face broke Marinette out of her stupor, and she offered an instinctual yelp in response.
“What?”
Alya’s eyes twinkled knowingly, and Marinette shifted anxiously in her seat.
“You sure you weren’t checking him out?”
“Alya!”
Said girl let out a mischievous cackle at her hissed response.
“Now get over there!” she said, waving her hands around in a shooing motion.
Marinette glanced over to the line, where the man was no doubt giving the barista his order.
From what she could tell he was just about done, and she watched as he shuffled through his wallet to hand the barista a bill. But rather than proceed normally as most client-worker interactions would, his payment was met with wide eyes and flailing hands.
Marinette was much too far to discern what was being said, but from context clues she could deduct that he had just handed the barista quite a sizable amount. She had already guessed he was well-off from simply observing the quality of his clothes, but this was near confirmation.
It wasn’t as if status or wealth mattered much to her, but she did have a tendency to be wary of higher-class people due to past experiences with them. Being around them really wasn’t as pleasant as it seemed.
Her musing was interrupted when the man suddenly moved, relocating to the waiting line. There was her chance.
Marinette pushed herself out of her seat, steeling herself and lifting her chin high. This was no biggie. All she had to do was somehow convince this gorgeous man to give her his number by making a crappy pick-up line and a pun on the spot. It wasn’t anything she hadn’t done before, but this felt different, probably because it was a total stranger she was about to attempt it on.
She felt Alya’s gaze trailing after her with each step, and Marinette reminded herself that she absolutely had to succeed or she would never hear the end of it.
The closer she got, however, the more her confidence died. Apparently she had made a major miscalculation while gauging her probability of success, because she hadn’t accounted for the brain spasm she was currently having. Why, oh why did he have to be so cute?
Marinette had the sinking feeling that she was about to majorly embarrass herself, but she was determined to win. Screw embarrassment—she was Marinette Dupain-Cheng. All the trouble she had gotten into with Alix and Kim as kids had prepared her for this very moment. Nothing mattered besides victory.
So she sauntered up confidently, stopping right in front of her target.
“Hey, you must be Batman’s sidekick.”
“What?”
The man’s head snapped towards her, and Marinette didn’t fail to notice the subtle defensive stance he took. Years of hero experience had made her more perceptive towards these things—it was part of the job, after all. She filed the information away in the back of her mind, making a mental note to dissect all that later. Her priority was winning the bet—and oh, right, she still had to finish that pick-up line.
“...because you’re Robin my heart.”
The quip was accompanied by an uncharacteristically roguish smile, à la Chat Noir. She’d give herself a solid 10/10 points on delivery.
Her target seemed to agree with the verdict, because after a split second of shocked silence, he burst into full-bodied laughter.
The instantaneous shift in demeanor nearly caught her off-guard, but she was too occupied by the bright smile on his face and his melodic chuckle to notice. It was light and carefree, and she couldn’t help but crack a small smile as a result.
The only problem was that the laughter didn’t end, though, and she felt her face heat up more as the seconds ticked by.
Oh, Kwami.
Marinette buried her face into her hands with a soft groan, wishing the ground could just open up and swallow her whole.
She knew it wasn’t the greatest pick-up line ever, but she didn’t think her attempt warranted that much amusement.
The laugher ceased abruptly, and she peeked through her fingers in time to see the man quickly sober up.
“Sorry, I wasn’t laughing at you!”
A pause.
“Okay, not exactly. I just—wow, that was a great pick-up line.”
She slowly lowered her hands, though she kept her head down to peer at him through her lashes.
“Did it work?”
He chuckled and offered her a bright smile that made her blush like a high schooler with a massive crush.
“Yeah, you can tell your friend over there that you won your bet.”
If it was even possible, she turned redder.
“What? How…”
At the mention of Alya, Marinette sent a quick glance to their café table only to find that she was doing absolutely nothing to hide her rapt attention. She quickly caught on to the fact that they were looking her way and sent a very obvious thumbs-up and wink.
Oh, I am so going to kill her later!
But Marinette’s momentary vexation made way for embarrassment as the gravity of the situation hit her.
“I guess I wasn’t exactly subtle, huh?”
“Yeah,” the handsome stranger shrugged. “You probably could have been more discreet. But I liked it.”
“Okay, that’s the second time you’ve said that, but I have a hard time believing you. You can’t possibly tell me that you actually enjoy puns.”
“So I’m guessing I shouldn’t tell you that meeting you was a fortuitous aster?”
“Aster? As in the opposite of disaster?” she wrinkled her nose.
“You got it!”
Marinette rolled her eyes in exasperation, though the upwards tug at the corner of her lips betrayed her true feelings.
“Careful there, or you’ll be the one Robin my heart.”
She’d never admit to it, but she flushed a tiny bit before straightening up in realization. Hey, she was supposed to be the one doing the wooing here!
But before she could open her mouth to respond, her companion beat her to it.
“Since you’re stealing something so dear to me, I think it’s only fair that I get my thief’s name in exchange.”
He was clever, she had to admit.
“Marinette,” she proffered.
“Dick.”
She blinked in surprise at the seemingly random obscenity before it clicked.
“Oh, that’s your name!”
The words tumbled forward, and once she realized what she had said, Marinette tried to frantically backpedal. Her spilled apologies didn’t seem to be necessary, though, because that mesmerizing laugh came back.
“No, it’s fine, I get that a lot,” he breathed between chuckles.
She brightened immediately, glad she hadn’t offended him or embarrassed herself too much.
“Well, since I’m already taking something from you, may I steal your number as well?”
“Only if I can do the same.”
Her inquiry was met with a grin, and the two exchanged phones to type in their respective numbers. Marinette’s found its way back into her hand shortly after, and moments after she pocketed it the call of “medium espresso and beignets!” broke the quiet ambience.
“Well, that’s my order,” Dick said, words weighted by a silent apology. “I’d love to stay and chat, but I have a few things I need to take care of. Maybe we can meet up later this week?”
The end of his sentence lilted up in hope, and Marinette found her chest warming with affection.
“I’d like that.”
She bid him goodbye with a smile and a wave and quickly tacked on an “I’ll text you later!” in afterthought.
She’d forever deny squealing giddily as she unceremoniously dragged Alya out from her seat and through the café doors, but the sound didn’t escape Dick’s attention—or his enhanced hearing, courtesy of Bat-Tech.
As he watched her leave with Alya, a smile slowly spread across his face at the thought of seeing her again.
Yeah, he sighed to himself. She’s definitely Robin my heart.
