Put Oneself in Someone Else’s Shoes
Our identities keep changing in the cycle of rebirths. Today we abuse animals and hurt others, and tomorrow we will be treated in the same way if not worse. Do not impose on others what we ourselves do not desire. Learning to put ourselves in others' shoes is a basic social virtue, as well as the empathy we should have towards animals.

Raging Currents of Life
Like raging currents, life continues similarly and changes ceaselessly, which is neither eternal nor nihilistic. Various psychological factors formed by our thoughts and behaviors are the core force to propel the continuation of life.

Eyes' Fascination with Five Colors
Eyes' fascination with five colors does not mean that eyes are fascinated, but that minds are captured, and thus the eyes become the captives.
Note: In Buddhism, five colors refer to the basic colors of green, yellow, red, white and black, meaning gorgeous objects.

Twelve Kinds of Mind
An independent mind does not depend;
A free mind does not attach;
A content mind does not covet;
A tolerant mind does not hate;
A pure mind does not discriminate;
A concentrated mind does not drift;
A devoted mind does not sway;
An undaunted mind does not cower;
A vigorous mind does not slack;
A liberated mind does not worry;
An altruistic mind does not select;
An illuminated mind does not squander.

Distance
Distance lends enchantment to the view, because it leaves people with room for imaginations. When facing yourself, do not be deluded by distance. You should see clearly who you really are rather than who you assume you are.

Seemingly Real
Some people always live in fantasy, a seemingly real world where they try hard to chase illusions and successfully get themselves deceived.

Deception and Honesty
Deception invites deception, while honesty attracts honesty. One may succeed by deceiving others for a short time, but only honesty can earn him credibility in the long run. After all, one will reap what he has sown.

Progress and Degenerate
Too many emotions veil sincere feelings. Too much knowledge overwhelms an innate conscience. While the world is progressing, people’s mind is degenerating.

Self-Criticism
One needs to learn self-criticism. However what one does not need to learn is to use it for self-protection, a common trick played by an unenlightened person who reveals a tiny problem to divert attention so as to cover up bigger ones.

Every Thought Is Impermanent
Every single thought in the mind is impermanent. Having such a mind and living in such an equally impermanent world, yet one constantly longs for eternity. How tiring it is!
