  I wish that more English Danganronpa V3 fans knew that in the original Japanese version, Gonta didn’t talk in caveman/Hulk speech. He spoke in normal polite Japanese, only struggling with the meaning of certain words from his lack of experience. He did however talk in third person but Tenko and Angie did as well. In Japanese 3rd person speech works and is used to make characters cute and childish. But in English none of this comes across and instead is just distracting. Its obvious that the NISA translators only kept Gonta in 3rd person to insert weird American humor into the series.

  I especially dislike this translation because Gonta is one of the most important characters in ndrv3, especially when it comes to Kokichi’s character arc. Now, instead of being the sweet and naive entomologist who allows the audience to see beneath Kokichi’s mask, he is now seen as nothing but a joke side character. 

  Which not only ruins Gonta’s entire character but also makes Kokichi’s character and intentions even more confusing.

(No wonder people are confused that Kokichi and Gonta got official Anniversary wine together haha)

  To make things worse, they also changed Kokichi’s character by making him more childish and aggressive.(even going as far as changing his sprites on scenes!) I’d say one of the worst mistranslations though was making his whiteboard have “trustworthy?” written below the photo of Shuichi. In Japanese it says something more along the lines of “dangerous?” or “untrustworthy?”. I really don’t know how they messed this up but it was likely because there was a translator who wanted Kokichi to be shipped with the protagonist. The translation error to me was strange because most of his interactions with Shuichi were negative so, to suddenly say that Shuichi was the only one he trusted would feel like a contradiction. It’s also frustrating because, the original whiteboard translation imo implies that Kokichi may have suspected that Shuichi was the mastermind which is SO INTERESTING and gives their dynamic so much more depth.

In conclusion: NISA ruined V3 lol

kokichi's fit is a sleek, sharp black. but still comfortable to move and store things in. He can still be silly and dramatic in it but It's be really cool for his new fit to be purposefully cold, controlled and intimidating , a good contrast from his usual clownness to really grab their attention. //need to explain this one to be an 'oh! he was doing that to distract us' but more... oomf . hm He has a a white glove, and a black one to draw more attention to the former. black captain hat with devil horns, or just the horns? hm. plus the black cape for the demon bat silhouette. inside is one of those cool n kinda slutty but loose all black formal fits, like (ahhh i need to get pack into drawing or outfit scrapbooking but imagine with me)

**** gonta's black choker and kokichi's white gloves is supposed to a) show their connection via the colours lol. but also represent a dog on a leash deal. however gonta can take off and on the choker when he pleases, showing his willingness and equal choice in this operation despite it seeming like ouma has the upper hand [plus feeding into the 'ouma is controlling him!' schtick their classmates got going on, thus making them suspect him less and not believe him and kokichi are purposefully working together! boom baby

Is Shuichi the mastermind of V3?

I've had a few thoughts about four chapters and Shuichi's involvement in them.

FIRST CHAPTER So, the first case had an unreliable narrator as Kaede. While playing the game for the first time, Shuichi felt like a really good and reliable guy to me but after analyzing the game again and looking at other people's theories, I think Shuichi might be strongly connected to the mastermind to the point of being one. A detail that strucks out about Shuichi is his parents being an actor and a screenwriter. This is important considering the game's ending. I believe it means there's a possibility of him having good acting skills and feeling comfortable being a character in a "fictional" world. In the first chapter, Shuichi had quite a few opportunities to notice what Kaede has been up to.

He leaves her around shotput balls, soon-to-become murder weapons.

He had an opportunity to see that the books were put in a very strange fashion.

Clearly, he withheld information about the cameras from everyone including Kaede for no obvious reason.

SECOND CHAPTER The most suspicious thing about the second chapter was the way Ryoma died. I suppose there's no arguments against Kirumi being the killer but did she kill Ryoma the way Shuichi said she did? https://youtu.be/HXuq50Bt6PE?t=341 - Monosuke here even touches on the topic of the cause of death although in the usual wacky way. Monosuke has a "slip-up" in which he says it was practically impossible to put the body in the piranha tank - you had to lean through the window and that would count as breaking the rules. All that when other characters emphasize that the trick would work only if someone carefully put the body in the piranha tank. Ryoma had a crack on his skull. Could Kirumi have killed him with one blow and leave his body without any other manipulations, and then someone decided to make things more interesting? Perhaps, to give Shuichi another chance to shine as a detective?

THIRD CHAPTER Korekiyo's behavior during the third trial was a bit suspicious. Korekiyo acted as if he didn't remember killing Angie or perhaps didn't do it at all. He was ready to prove his innocence till his dead sister persona told him to "admit defeat", otherwise he would probably try to defend himself further - and that's already after the Closing Argument! But he wasn't really nervous nor did he put much of a fight when the students suspected him in killing Tenko. You can say he simply realized he isn't going to be executed for this but obviously killing Tenko would make him the prime suspect in Angie's murder, especially if he knew he used the same floorboard to kill both of the girls. I think another thing a lot of people already noticed is that Korekiyo only asks about what would happen if there are two blackened after the second murder already happened. and he does it in front of everyone. And he doesn't even get the answer at that moment because Monokubs (seemingly) didn't expect this to happen at all - this to me outrules the possibility Kiyo asked about this before. Korekiyo also is the first one to say "We should investigate Tenko's death as well, just in case" after it's revealed only the Angie's killer is the blackened, basically asking to be outed as her murderer and possibly appreciated as one, with his genius seesaw trick and all. Before the Closing Argument, Shuichi says, "Kiyo..I want you to confess! No…I will force you to confess!". Sounds strange if we consider the possibility Kiyo might not have anything else to confess for.

FOURTH CHAPTER The 4th chapter… something tells me Shuichi had a hand in Miu's murder. One of the most suspicious things is how Kaito was the last to appear when everyone's logged out. He said, "What's this all about!? What was that body discovery announce-" when there was no body discovery announcement. It is EXTREMELY suspicious that he knew someone was dead beforehand. He even goes on to repeat that obvious lie, saying "when that body discovery announcement woke me up, I rushed over here". For some reason, Shuichi doesn't question this one. After Shuichi said he was going to reveal the culprit, Kokichi says, "Even if the culprit is Kaito?". Is Kaito the culprit?

@fit-artichoke8738 theorized about the possibility of Body Swapping (https://www.tumblr.com/fit-artichoke8738/648228491354144768/body-swapping-in-the-virtual-world-drv3-ch4). As far as I recall, Miu didn't specify at the beginning that you can log out as anyone, so that makes not mentioning that you can log in as anyone less improbable. https://youtu.be/LVrHupB88y4?t=2880 - In this sequence (Gonta bringing the bridge), we see events not only through Shuichi's perspective, something that the game didn't do very often. What was the reason for that? During the trial, Kokichi was quite angry at Gonta, pressuring him to make solid arguments to defend himself. Some people say Kokichi just wanted to kill everyone after he had the card key and saw what the "real world" was like. But he also said (in yellow, mind you) that he wants to live with his super angry sprite. If this line was genuine, then why would he pressure Gonta to defend himself so much? Perhaps because Kokichi thought that Gonta might not actually be the culprit?

This first line came after Miu explained everything. Isn't Gonta smart enough to at least listen to what Miu just told everyone? Maybe I'm wrong but this bit feels like someone putting on an act. The second line - and then again, Gonta questioned something that was explained a few seconds ago.

So these chapters have these questionable moments that make me think Shuichi has something to do with the game's mastermind if he isn't one to begin with.

GONTA MASTERMIND/ KOKICHI FORCED ACCOMPLICE AU

"It’s not surprising you caught me out of all of them, after all" He looks at Kokichi, who seems to be forcing his tears to not come out " I wrote you that way, like a lie detector "

"But what it is surprising is that, well, it's waaay to early. "

"Ah, you thought you were that good of an actor." Kokichi forces out the insult, but it comes out with way less force than he intended to.

"Mmm, no, I thought you were way more stupid." Gonta smiles -grimaces- and puts his hands behind his back, upright posture.

"Fuck you."

"Yeah, you might not want to waste the chance of a deal, you know. "

"What do you mean, a deal? I don't wanna have anything to do with you, bastard. " Kokichi's face was hard, but not hard enough to hide away from Gonta the hint of pain that his words caused him. After all, his brain was still trying to digest the fact that sweet old Gonta was, in fact, a cruel, cold, psychotic prick.

"Ah, look, it'll be way more easy and less of a headache for me to just, kill you " He moved his hands around as he explained, not missing the way the boy shiver at that "But ugh, I can't a afford to do so, you see, I've got people to please, and they won't be pleased if you died."

Kokichi gripped the fabric of his trousers, containing his rage. "That's my own fault, though. I shouldn't have written you so damn interesting. " he whispered.

Ouma scoffs "What does it have to do with me? From what I undertand that's a you problem, I do NOT fucking care if you kill me, I'd rather die than anything you might propose for me to not tell the others"

"Ah, Ouma, Ouma, you are way more naive than I remember writing you as" he didn't waste time trying to tell the other that the rest of the cast would not believe him, he wanted to get over this problem fast even though he would love to mess with him " I don’t plan on doing anything to you" he leans closer "Oh but to your beloved Saihara-chan..." The boy hardens his expression. "Oh to him, the things I could do to him, " he smiled as the other looked away from his eyes.

"I could easily think of thousands of ways to kill him! The Ultimate detective... tragically killed, oh dear, what a good plot!"

"you wouldn't dare..." Kokichi whispered, trying to convice himself "he's... he's the--"

"And in a hundred of those ideas, you are found guilty." That silenced the short boy, who was now looking down to his shoes.

"But, maybe I could keep your dear, dear detective safe, if you work for me. I could use a little assistance. Being the mastermind is more work than people think"

"For you? Don't even dream about it. " Kokichi's face demonstrated his fatigue, but he didn’t give in.

"What's you other choice? Tell the others? Who would believe you? After all..." He smiled, the sweet, fake smile he putted on everyday" I'm good old, innocent Gonta."

"If I don't accept--"

"Shuichi Saihara will be found dead tomorrow" his smiled was erased as fast as light and a blank uncharacteristic expression was left on his face" And don't think of killing yourself off, I will know, also, that's very not fun"

"Fuck you."

"You said it twice already, c'mon, your insults should be better " he rolled his eyes.

"... I won't kill anyone " he whispered, not looking at his face.

"I won't ask you to, don't worry, you'll have other duty. But besides that, you can have you high school love with Saihara all you want" Kokichi's shoulders relaxed just a bit, oh, he couldn’t allow that "Or well, all you can afford"

"I wrote him so he wouldn't fall in love with you." Kokichi's shoulders tensed again, but he didn’t show any expression on his face, lips tight in a line. "But you? Ha! Eventually, you will be bewitched by him if you aren't already, and even if you try not to, unrequited love is by far more interesting than a real romance. Oh, people eat that up!"

" I hate you " for the first time, Kokichi's voice sounded shaky. That wasn't supposed to happen, so it caught Gonta of guard. Though he didn't overthink it, the joy of hearing the despair in his voice was worth the technical issue. He didn't wighted the consequences of it.

"I know." Satisfaction ran through his body as he lifted a hand, and Kokichi shaked it, agreeing to their little alliance. He felt even more overjoyed when he thought that his hand was the only one Ouma was going to grab even if someone else -- Shuichi Saihara-- offered his to him.

After all, he wrote them that way, hadn't he?

Tsumugi moved from "Please don't" to "You will"

Miu moved from "You will" to "Cool"

Kaito moved from "Cool" to "Please don't"

I think Kaito and Tsumugi's previous positions are what made everyone know I hadn't finished ch5 yet haha

Highfive Gonta AU Mastermind

Kokichi was reading files in his lab when Miu busted down the door dragging Gonta with her shouting nonsense about how short people are always the mastermind, looking up from the file he sighed before putting on a big wide goofy grin. "Miu how can I help you this time with your kinky fantasies of getting into Kiibo's metal pants!" Miu blushed before shaking off her thoughts but she'll think about it later. "Oi! Kokichi, I'm right when saying that Gonta would look cool as the mastermind? He's got the built!" Kokichi looks Gonta up and down before shaking his head in shame "But not the brain of one, If he can stop saying his name before every sentence he utters then I'll believe it." Miu gasps before huffing "I bet you that Monokuma can find a way to fix that!" Kokichi snorts and Gonta finally speaks after a while of watching them talk to each other

"Gonta thinks being Mastermind bad, Gonta go back to searching for insects." Gonta tries to leave but Miu pushes him into a chair and points at him her aura spiking to intensity. "Gonta stays there or else I'll squash every insect that crosses paths with me! Kokichi go get Monokuma, They need a better mastermind and Gonta is the one!" Kokichi goes to object but before he can Monokuma appears with a Flashback Light, "Did I hear about a new Motive~ well here you go! oh and before I forget The killing game will have two masterminds which means more killings will happen and boost the ratings! ta-ta" with that Monokuma left Miu, Kokichi and Gonta alone in the Supreme Leader's lab.

Miu looks at the flashback light on the ground and picks it up grinning like a mad person, she goes to flash Gonta but is stopped by Kokichi who was shaking his head in Desperation, "Miu think clearly for once! If you use this what's gonna happen to Gonta and what is gonna happen to everyone if we have a double Mastermind in the roster! WE can't risk that!" Miu pushes Kokichi off and presses the button making the room shine bright with a white light when the light is gone Gonta sits there for a moment before looking up at Miu his stare was serious and made Kokichi nervous.

"Miu tell me why are you causing such a ruckus when you're supposed to be in your Lab making the Ultimate Killing Machine." Gonta's voice held malice and Miu started jumping in Happiness shouting about how it was a success and that she was a genius before stopping in her tracks and picking up on what Gonta said, "G-Gonta I just wanted to test if we can have our own Mastermind for the game and-" before she could say anymore Gonta was in her face his eyes piercing red with rage and he pulled on her hair roughly before dragging her into the hallway and pushing her out shouting, "GET TO WORK MAKING THAT VIRTUAL WORLD OR ELSE YOU'LL BE THE NEXT BODY DISCOVERY ANNOUNCEMENT"

Gonta turns to See Kokichi backing away from him, taking a step forward he smiled at Kokichi before that smile Fell and he brought Kokichi close to him by pulling on his bandana "We're both gonna play this killing game and we're gonna win. Tell anyone that I'm the Mastermind and I swear my Insects are gonna enjoy feasting on your tongue...Oh but that's right no one believes a liar like you. so I'm safe to roam as I please" Pulling away and dropping Kokichi on the ground Gonta heads toward the door before turning back to look at him with a Smile filled with no remorse

"Gonta can't wait to play with everyone! Oh, Kokichi should be careful because Miu is trying to murder him....But Gonta will protect his Friend." The word friend coming from his mouth held no warmth and it made Kokichi gulp before hearing the door shut behind Gonta. Kokichi sat on the floor breathing hard grasping his throat "He could've easily killed me by snapping my neck...Miu head is gonna be sore..." Kokichi looked down at the file he was reading and how Ironic that it was about past victims of Killing games who were turned into the mastermind by just a simple lie.

Now everyone had to be careful around two masterminds in the shadows except Kokichi already knew one...and so did Miu.
