I'm not sure what's gonna end first: the series or my fucking life.

As much as I love Saezuru, it's gone on for so long that it's starting to get old literally and figuratively. You know, I wouldn't even be mad if Yoneda Kou ended the series by killing Yashiro off in 6. 7 is still well-written to a point and the BLCD did deserve to rank second AGAIN in chil-chil 2022, but I'm not sure about the future of this series (it wasn't nominated in 2023 tho which is one of the few good things about 2023's).

I say a lot of things, but I'm still invested in vol. 7 & 8.

I don't know who I'm jealous of, BUT THAT SHOULD BE ME! This scene is in vol 8, not 7, but I wanted to include it anyway.

I do agree that Saezuru portrayal of the whole yakuza deal is the realest 'cause happy endings over there are quite rare, but this isn't a novel that comes out in one go. Doesn't help that June is ass. I've heard from several friends who've read the latest releases that it feels like it's lost its way and that just makes me sad. I'm still hopeful tho.🤧

As I've already stated, this placed second in 2022's awards. I mean, it's Saezuru. Frontier doesn't spare a penny for it lmao. All the major characters are voiced, and they managed to bring the A-listers back again. Sometimes, I forget that Saezuru is actually based on a manga whenever I listen to the BLCDs 'cause the production is just that good.

Shingaki slayed as usual. I've said this many times before, but no matter how bad or how well he does in another role, he will always be Yashiro. I just came from Tsunaida and we're in the middle of a Rei event in Nu:carnival, so I would expect myself to adjust to Yashiro, but I didn't need any of that lmao. Yashiro is truly Shingaki's magnum opus. I'm not at all surprised that he placed 3rd best seiyuu for Yashiro. Deserved.

Speaking of Nu:carnival, I will forever be obsessed with Yashiro's relationship with the other characters aside from Doumeki. Nanahara's voiced by my one true love, Okitsu, but like Yashiro, I love him for his character and not his voice. It is nice having the other veterans in here with him, too. The slut trio is complete with Daddy Complex SatoTaku, Boss Ass Chaser Okitsu, and Damel in Distress Shingaki. #BLESS I want Kamiya to end up with Nanahara.

I haven't heard Wacchan in years HAHAHAHAHA. His Doumeki is still amazing as always. My issues with the story aside, I'm really looking forward to his "break" in vol. 8. EEEEEEE

Special mention to my Ryuuzaki and Miyake Kenta who made their comebacks here too. I missed him so much! LMAO

The BLCD is pretty accurate to the... magazine at least, but June does sell the translated tanko (fortunately). Like the previous installments, reading the manga while listening to the BLCD was so smooth because it was so accurate. Now 7 does end in a cliffhanger, so I don't really advise listening to it if you still don't have 8. But if cliffhangers aren't an issue for you, then break a leg!

Serment de Durendal: This Noble Phantasm embodies Mandricardo’s oath to not don a sword until he acquires the sought-after Durendal and in turn grants any weapon he wields specs equivalent to the legendary sword’s power.

Though bearing similarities to Lancelot’s Noble Phantasm Knight of Owner, Serment de Durendal surpasses the former in that it possesses the same level of power as Durendal, and in essence treats any weapon used as if it were the original sword.

It is worth noting, however, that while it copies Durendal’s default power, the durability corresponds to the rank of the weapon he uses (mostly at rank E).

Rêve de Durendal (The Unrivaled Sword of Dreams)

Rêve de Durendal: This anti-personnel Noble Phantasm can be activated through the sealing and destroying of Serment de Durendal.

In the fifth Lostbelt, because Hektor gave him Durindana (Durendal) and because he was driven by his objective to save the friends he met on his journey, Mandricardo managed to activate this Noble Phantasm. He accomplished the miracle of thwarting Artemis’ arrow. Following this feat, Mandricardo perished.

〇 PERSONALITY

A gloomy young man who has been exposed to the vanity of life.

Mandricardo is well aware of how minor a figure he is, hence the occasional self-deprecating remarks. He’s the type to prepare a safety net for his abilities, cautious and passive in his approach. 

He used to be the picture of a hero–self-important, arrogant, and imposing–until he lost a duel with Ruggiero even while equipping Hektor’s full armor. Shocked by this defeat, he has since become quite the gloomy, diffident character.

〇 ATTITUDE TOWARDS HIS MASTER

He typically adapts a True Neutral attitude. He will step in and stop excessive acts of cruelty, but due to his background as a former knight and king, he will overlook most less-severe cases.

Mandricardo is not one to initiate conversation with his Master. This inclination comes from his lack of confidence and insignificant military fame…which then produces misunderstanding since a mage Master would typically interpret this attitude as that of a Servant exercising tact.

He is willing to follow orders that are a bit on the reckless side.

He is always reserved and never acts out of turn.

He is not one to engage in needless chatter even with enemies. 

Why, he makes the ideal Servant indeed. “A beginner friendly Servant? Me? No no, you’ve got that wrong. Totally wrong!!”

〇 HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY

Mandricardo was the king of Tatar (an equestrian ethnic group in the Mongolian Plateau) before he left his homeland and became an adventurer in a quest to avenge his late father. At the end of his adventure, he acquired the shield and armor of Hektor. 

Hektor’s sword Durendal, however, remained in the hands of Roland, the very man who killed his father. Enraged, Mandricardo then set out wandering to find Roland.

After some twists and turns, Mandricardo eventually won both the legendary sword and the love of his life, but a duel with Ruggiero would cost him both Hektor’s armor and his very life.

Although he may have been the enemy who triggered Roland’s episode of going blind with rage and utterly naked, Mandricardo never played a part in the main plot of the narrative. While his brilliant feats were depicted in Orlando Innamorato, he was simply portrayed as one of the many obstacles standing in both Ruggiero’s and Roland’s way in Orlando Furioso.

〇 FateGO BIOGRAPHY

He used to be a king and adventurer! 

After obtaining Hektor’s armor at the end of his adventure, he then set off on numerous journeys in high spirits! The quest for Durendal was one riddled with tireless fights and twists and turns. By the end of it all, Mandricardo had been exposed to the vanity of life. Treat him nicely…

In his lifetime, he wreaked havoc with an attitude of self-importance and an air of supremacy. But this changed following his defeat in the hands of Ruggiero, Bradamante’s lover. Having been slain by Ruggiero even with Hektor’s armor and Durendal at his disposal appears to have left Mandricardo traumatized. He is now diffident when interacting with his Master.

Communication, a determining key factor in a Holy Grail War, fills him with dread… Yet for some reason he gets recommended as a beginner friendly Servant.

He does regain some confidence during battle, which is perhaps his way of lifting his ego.

〇 IN ATLANTIS

Mandricardo was one of the Servants summoned in advance in Olympus. He fulfilled his missions solemnly and surely, albeit in an unexciting manner. The one who called him “beginner friendly” in a previous section [see Attitude Towards His Master] was a Servant who participated in the same mission as him.

Those summoned in advance eventually divided into two: one team of Servants would make their way to Olympus, ready to fight in do-or-die battles, while the other team would remain in Atlantis as they wait for an opportunity to turn the tides. Following an advice he received, Mandricardo decided to stay and wait for Chaldea. He would then meet somebody he could call a friend, an encounter made possible only in this Lostbelt.

Meetings and partings are all but fleeting occurrences. But without a doubt, this was a once-in-a-lifetime miracle… One so special you could devote your entire life into it and even then you’ll never know if it will come true.

〇 USUAL ARMAMENTS

Although his weapon of choice is a simple wooden sword, he can wield it to temporarily exhibit powers similar to that of Durendal’s.

Appearance-wise, I was instructed to draw him as a “cynical, loner, small-time punk”. With a wooden sword in his hand, he gave me the impression of an aggressive lone wolf. It didn’t help that his eyes looked intimidating, too... Contrary to my initial expectations, he turned out to be friend shaped! My friend!!!! ~ Massu's new hairstyle~

Tbh after seeing it for the first time yesterday, I totally thought that's a wig for the reading event. Turned out it's real ^^;

I'm more ok with that now, after watching him in a video and not just a photo. That's actually pretty cool! I really like the hair length and cut.

He's divine with black hair, but that's actually fun seeing him in different hair colors once in a while.

BLCD Review: Unmei no Tsugai ga Omae da Nante

If y’all know me, you’ll know that I absolutely abhor omegaverse (you can thank Kurui Naku Ban Beta, Sayonara Alpha, and Erito for that). Literally everything you could do in an abo has already been done. I don’t see a point in making more of these. Mangakas: Okay, let’s do domsub instead But hey, am I not a Okitsu whore? No. Anyway, even though I was excited about listening to this, I knew I was going to hate Kotani because he was an asshole. 

There’s only one thing worse than an abo.

AN ABO WITH AN ASSHOLE CHARACTER.

But, in spite of myself, I actually enjoyed this. 

I’m having a moral crisis, help.

JK. Unmei no Tsugai doesn’t sell itself as a serious plot, so it shouldn’t be taken seriously either. Unlike our deep try-hards. I mean, it’s your pretty run-of-the-mill dumbass gets an excuse to fuck the asshole, falls in love with him, the asshole becomes more of an asshole, the dumbass drags a third party to make him jealous, the asshole becomes more of an asshole, poor third party gets led on and dumped, and the dumbass and asshole finally gets together without the asshole even apologizing, medetashi, medetashi. But the way that Haruta wrote and movic set it all up was fantastic. 

Now this is how you do comedy. I initially had some doubts ‘cause the narration in the first track was kind of strange lmao. It went from medieval style to traditional Japanese and it was narrated by someone who sounded like a news broadcaster wth. Is this a densetsu??? The CD later turned out to be a whole vocal flex for Massuu and Okitsu ‘cause goddamn. 

Massuu, for starters, used a tone slightly above his Hirokuni but slightly smoother. I haven’t read the manga before, so I wasn’t sure how things were going to go, so I was very surprised that he pulled his shounen (aka his Kirishima) voice later! I loved it. His changes were dynamic, chaotic, and very fitting for Shishikura. AND! AND! JESUS CHRIST HIS SEXAY MONOLOGUES!!! HELLO??? WAS HE PAID EXTRA??? Y’ALL GOTTA HEAR ALL THE BEDROOM SUBJUGATIONS!!! I didn’t know he had that in him tbh. I was just blown away. He has never bottomed this chaotically before, if I recall correctly. It’s evident that he had a lot of fun recording this (as did Okitsu as per the cast talk) and I love that! It makes me wish this had a second volume so we could hear more of this kind of Massuu.

Onto Okitsu,

Y’all already know what I’m gonna say. 

Is my bias over Okitsu making me like this? Who knows? But it’s undeniable that my man has, once again, slayed this role. I won’t talk about his perfect performance much ‘cause I’ve already run out of praises years ago, so just know that if you’re not an Okitsu bitch by now, you’re really missing out lmao.

ALSO

I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT WE’VE WITNESSED OKITSU PLAY TWO BETAS, A PRETEND OMEGA, AND NOW FINALLY AN ALPHA!!! We don’t count the disrespect that was Shounen no Kyoukai

Anywho, these two also had great chemistry with each other. They’re more or less in sync during their mattress mambos, so I really wasn’t spazzing out during Smoky Nectar. I was thinking maybe I was asking for too much. 😂 Idk what to feel, knowing that this is Fatgum x Kirishima

In conclusion, get this. Get this if you’re a fan of the series and abo in general. And if you dislike abo like me, this still is worth getting if you’re an Okitsu/Massuu stan. If you want to see just what makes voice actors good, you’ll be in the right place. As for those who want to read the manga along with the BLCD, it is doable, but bear in mind that there is added and cut dialogue. I only have the magazine releases, and I’ve noticed that the narrations are rearranged, so do try buying the tank if you can (reading the Chrima release with it is doable too tho). Gosh, I really wish this wasn’t an abo lmao. Anyway, I’m afraid there aren’t a lot of gag abos like this out there, so I wouldn’t be able to recommend anything similar. Go Kashikomarimashita: Destiny and Re:birth for more Okitsu tho
