The Matcha Lover's Guide to Brewing the Perfect Cup of Tea
The Matcha Lover’s Guide to Brewing the Perfect Cup of Tea
Matcha is a type of green tea that is made from specially grown and processed tea leaves. It originated in Japan, where it has been used for centuries in traditional tea ceremonies. Matcha is made from tea leaves that are shaded from direct sunlight for several weeks before harvest, which increases the concentration of chlorophyll and other compounds in the leaves. The leaves are then carefully…

I normally don't make these kinds of posts but the update to discord's interface on mobile has me feral.
They removed the functionality of searching things via individual person who sent said thing and searching between certain dates as well as completely changing the basics of the app overall. Things overall are just harder to use.. why what's the point?
The search gripe probably seems weird but I do a lot of collaborative writing and art with my friends and many concepts get passed around and are archived within our chats so I use the search function often! By cutting it back into this... weird poorly working MEDIA archive it is now it's so much harder to review things. Even jumping to the messages is different!? Some you straight up cant unless they have an image or link attached? What the fuck-
Also speaking of media i straight up cant send attachments via discord mobile anymore either so that's happening too which is great /s
I'm convincing as many of my friends to cancel nitro subs in retaliation to these bs changes
Tldr: discord your app wasnt broken but you successfully broke it in this update congrats.

MARCH WRAP UP ☆

Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri
4.75 ☆
How to put into words how much I loved this book? I couldn't put it down, and I spend hours just thinking about it, thinking of Mehr and Amun and all they had to go through just to be free. Empire of Sand is a beautifully written book inspired by the Mughal empire and Bharatanatyam for its magic system.
When Mehr uses her powers, she's found by the Emperor's mystics and forced to accept an arranged marriage with Amun, one of the mystics. And here's lie the beauty of Empire of Sand: it's a story of coercion, of the importance of vows and promises, and the fight for freedom and free will. It's also a story of slavery.
Empire of Sand may not be perfect but it was everything I wanted and more. It was also satisfying to read a standalone fantasy book that succeeded in exploring many themes and tropes in a new way.
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
3.75 ☆
The Poppy War is a well crafted story inspired by the Second Sino-Japanese war during the 20th century. The book is separated into three parts that are very distinct from each other, and each part has its own atmosphere and narrative arc. Together, they offer a good introduction to the world building, the conflicts with and within Nikan, as well as Rin's pursuit of power and freedom.
The world building is very rich, and truly it's the best part of the book: there isn't a line that doesn't add something to it, and it creates a very engaging story. The writing is very good and I was immediately sucked into it. It was hard to put the book down.
I really liked Rin as a main character: she may not be likeable sometimes, but you can really understand where she comes from and why she's so desperate for power. She's always moving back and forth between being a hero or a villain, and to be honest, she can be her worst enemy. So, even though I couldn't always agree with her actions, it made sense, and I was rooting for her.
But one of my critics would be that, as a main character, she kind of "disappeared" from the story during the second part of the book in profit of the plot
The Wicker King by K. Ancrum
4 ☆
I've never written a proper review for this book because even now, I'm still haunted by the story and its characters. Told from August's pov, we follow him and his best friend Jack as Jack starts to experience hallucinations of a strange world superposed onto reality. Desperate to save Jack, August accompanies him on a quest to save Jack's fantasy world. It's a story of abuse, neglect and codependency but it's really well done and I couldn't put the book down (I read it from 1am to 4:40am).
Matcha Made in Heaven - vol.5 by Umebachi Yamanaka
4 ☆
I don't really have anything to say, it's still cute and I can't wait for the next update.
Never Seduces a Scot by Maya Banks
3 ☆ - reread
I was in the mood for an arranged marriage story and I thought of this book. It was as good as the first time. Eveline and Graeme are so soft, and I liked their respective families. It's not something I mentioned in my initial review, but I liked the way deafness was explored, especially because it's a historical romance.
L'Atelier des Sorciers - vol.1 by Kamone Shirahama
3 ☆
I've seen a lot of post on tumblr about this series, so I was intrigued and picked up at the library. I loved the magic system: it's very easy to understand while being unique. And I can't wait to read the next volume.

Review of B.LAB's Matcha Hydrating Real Sun Screen SPF50+ PA++++
B.LAB is a Korean nature-oriented brand that provides comfort to tired skin. They're also known for high-quality products made from natural ingredients. Their Matcha Hydrating Real Sun Screen is a chemical sunscreen designed to hydrate and protect skin without feeling greasy. Key ingredients include: 940ppm of green tea leaf water (toning, soothing, hydrating, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging), ice plant extract (antioxidant, moisture-rich, hydrating, strengthens skin barrier), terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid (chemical filter, anti-aging, provides effective protection from UVA rays), diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate (chemical filter, ideal for protection against UVA rays, extremely skin safe for all skin types) and niacinamide (whitening, lightening, anti-aging, rejuvenating, anti-wrinkle). This product retails for between $10-15 USD, you can get it here for $14.40 + shipping. Currently, you can get it on sale for $6.29 + shipping.
Ingredients
Water, Dibutyl Adipate, Methylpropanediol, Alcohol Denat., Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Polysilicone-15, Tromethamine, Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Caprylyl Methicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Dipropylene Glycol, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Glyceryl Stearate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Polyether-1, Carbomer, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water (940ppm), Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Butylene Glycol, Menthyl Lactate, Ethyl Menthane Carboxamide, Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamide, Mesembryanthemum Crystallinum (Iceplant) Extract, Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol
Tumblr media
This sunscreen contains 50 ml (1.69 oz) and is fragrance-free.
Tumblr media
The sunblock has a very light cream texture and feels a little wet on the skin.
Tumblr media
It blends out really easily and really doesn't feel like a sunscreen.
Tumblr media
It absorbs quickly and leaves skin really hydrated and not overly tacky.
Tumblr media
There's no flashback or noticeable white cast at all under flash.
Recommended use is to apply the sunscreen and smooth it over the skin and blend and tap into the skin for better absorption. This brand is cruelty-free and uses clean ingredients, it's also fragrance-free. After using, I do personally have somewhat sensitive skin and some sunscreens really irritate my eyes, I did notice a bit of tingling due to the menthyl lactate in the ingredients but otherwise no issues around my eye area. I also have dry skin and I think this works great without any added moisturizer underneath, but it also layers well and does a good job underneath makeup, no pilling at all. There's not really any scent of ingredients that I've noticed too much and of course, it's free of artificial fragrance. The thing that really sticks out to me in Korean and Japanese sunscreens is that you can put these on your lips and not have that kind of unpleasant sunscreen taste. The ingredients are great, minus a couple of ingredients. The cooling tingle is noticeable but not terrible or overly irritating for me, but if you can't handle anything like that, then best to avoid this one. I'd recommend this to anyone with dry and dehydrated skin, people who have sensitive skin, and people who need a lightweight formula.
What I like: I'd like to make it clear, this sunscreen is probably my favorite that I've ever tried and I feel like I don't hear people talking about it. It's also very affordable and I do actually wish they'd make a version with 100 ml. I enjoy the texture and it works so well under makeup. What I don't like: the slightly cooling tingle could irritate very sensitive skin.
Pros:
Moisturizing
Hydrating
Gentle
Layers well
No pilling
Safe around the eyes
Lovely formula
Great texture
Affordable
Smooths over the skin so nicely
Fragrance-free
Cons:
Has a couple irritants
Would I buy this again?
Yes, for sure
Rating: 10/10

Dolcetti Gelato. 20 points.
✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️🥈
Tumblr media
A lovely shop on 9th and 9th, Dolcetti is filled with nicknacks wall to wall. When i first started going to this shop 2 years ago one would probably call it cluttered, since then they've cut back on the decorations a bit (perhaps by nessecity of ADA compliance or risk of fire hazard) but still holds the delightful charm of an eclactic antique menagarie. Of course the vibes of the shop are great but the Gellato and café menu are equally delightful.
Their multitude of rotating flavours offer everyone a delciously sweet summer snack, with flavours like sticky rice, whiskey, strawberry and balsamic, matcha, peaches and cream and so many more, the love i feel for this café is tremendous.
Of course the most important part in my honest and very important opinion is their matcha. I write this review first as i find it important to set a base line for the others to compare to. I have devised a system of six criteria that the Matcha must pass for my ranking. One that I developed while living in rural Japan and tasting many delcious drinks and ultimately one sacred Matcha latte that all others are now comapared to.
The system is of six categories, with 3 stars each, and a misc category with maximum 3 additional points.
Bitterness, important to balance but not hide
Texture, a unique aspect of matcha.
Sweetness, the most devisive of catagories
Flavour, obviously important
Body, the fatty thickness that is key
And warmth, that is prepared to the correct temperature and maintained while drinking.
A perfect score would be 18, and I find that Dolcetti gelato is that perfect 18, with 2 additional points for misc. values that add to the experience.
The initial impressions of drinking the matcha latte were that the cup, served in a ceramic mug with no handle, was perfectly filled. The ratio of water, milk, and matcha were imaculate and harmonious. The colour was of the perfect spring green that slowly shifted white as if it were clouds drifting over a meadow. The oat milk was judt fatty enough and provided the correct body that creates the desired mouth feel without feeling like drinking butter. The warmth was incredible. Even on a warm day the matcha still brings out a wonderful enjoyment of comfort and calm as not to hot but not tepid.
The additional points of having great ratio of foam and of that foam not disappearing immediately. Along side the overall experience of the café and drink
All together: Extremly satisfying.

Specialty coffee and gourmet dishes at The Coffee Academics Cafe in Makati
Specialty coffee and gourmet dishes at The Coffee Academics Cafe in Makati
During an overcast Saturday morning in Makati’s Central Business District, you would think that the cafes there would be nigh deserted. After all, office workers who rely on their cuppa to energize them for their workday are mostly at home, enjoying the extra time they can spend in bed snoozing. However, such is not the case at the Coffee Academics Cafe along Carlos Palanca Street. In this cozy…
