"Women's rights activists in Honduras are celebrating a major victory, after President Xiomara Castro announced that her government will lift its near-total ban on the emergency contraception pill.

"Having access to PAE is life-changing for the women in Honduras, especially considering the alarming rates of violence," Jinna Rosales of the advocacy group Strategy Group for PAE — the medicine is known as PAE, for Píldora Anticonceptiva de Emergencia — told NPR.

"With a total abortion ban, PAE is often our only option here – it being accessible to all will save lives," the group said via email.

Castro announced the reversal Wednesday night, [March 8th,] in the final hours of International Women's Day. As she undid the policy, Castro noted that the World Health Organization says the pill is not "abortive."

The WHO's policy recommendation states, "All women and girls at risk of an unintended pregnancy have a right to access emergency contraception and these methods should be routinely included within all national family planning programs."

Legalization will undo a 2009 ban

For years, Honduras was the only nation in the Americas to have an absolute ban on the sale or use of emergency contraception, also known as morning-after or "Plan B" pills. It also prohibits abortion in all cases.

Honduras moved to ban emergency contraception in 2009, as the country went through political and social upheaval. Its supreme court affirmed the ban in 2012.

After Castro became the country's first female president, Honduras slightly eased its stance on the medicine. But when Minister of Health José Manuel Matheu announced that policy shift last fall, critics said i didn't go far enough, as the medicine would only be made legal in cases of rape.

At the time, Matheu said the pill didn't qualify as a method of contraception. But on Wednesday night, he joined Castro at her desk to sign a new executive agreement with her, opening the path to emergency contraception."

COLORADO TRIP 2022 // 9/4

Woke up this morning at 6 am MDT and decided to go do yoga by the river. It was very cold outside, about 50°F, but it was quiet and peaceful. There were about 6 or 7 different bird species just hanging around outside tweeting and enjoying the morning.

My yoga practice was short and rudimentary, but I guess I'm still not used to the altitude because I was short on breath and my heart was beating fast. The locals say this should adjust in about 24-48 hours though. It was peaceful.

Matheus joined me outside with coffee as a rafter of wild turkeys walked down the hill behind our room and toward the bird feed that'd been left out for them—BREAKFAST TIME!!! We sat by the river, sipping our coffees, in the quiet, contemplating moving to somewhere as scenic and quiet as Estes Park. The turkeys continued to move closer and closer to us as they looked for more food. They were very chill.

After we finished our coffee, we headed back inside, slipped on some tennis shoes and explored the area a little more, going for a walk by the river as well as by the roadside.

Back at the hotel, we tried to plan our day; we didn't want to do anything too wild or crazy since today is supposed to be a rest day before going hiking through Rocky Mountain National Park tomorrow morning.

We had some yogurt with cereal for breakfast and decided on visiting the aerial tram and taking a walk by the marina. We also learned upon arrival to Estes Park that in order to enter the national park, you have to essentially play a lottery to get tickets for the day you want to go. Tickets go on sale at 5 pm, so we got a plan in place to snatch up a ticket for 5 am park entry. Fingers crossed we get it! If not, we'll have to wake up at 4 am to enter the park before 5 am. It's confusing and takes some explanation as to why it's set up this way, but I don't mind to do either. We're planning to watch the sunrise over Bear Lake.

2:00 pm: We ended up going to the marina for a walk, but didn't do the aerial tram as the city was packed to the brim with people and cars. It was really difficult getting around and because I'm a very introverted person, being in large crowds is anxiety-inducing as well as exhausting.

We walked around the marina and took some photos, then tried to go to the aerial tramway; but, due to traffic congestion and Google maps refusing to be of any assistance, we were unable to find the entrance. So, in my anxiety-induced anger, we instead decided to find a parking spot and grab some lunch to-go.

I parked the car (after 20 minutes of searching for a spot) and we walked to a place called Penelope's where we both got double Impossible burgers and fries. The food was, again, mediocre. If you've ever had an Impossible burger prepared by a restaurant that's not known for being vegan-friendly or vegan entirely, then you've had an Impossible burger from Penelope's. 5/10 stars, it was alright, but I've had better.

Instead of dining in, surrounded by hundreds of other tourists, we got it to go and quickly made our exit back to the hotel room to eat.

Once done eating, we laid down to digest and rest by taking a nap, then once I was ready to brave the day again, we scrambled to get tickets to Rocky Mountain Ntl. Park (and secured a 2 o'clock pm spot!) I grabbed my book of the month, 'Dune' by Frank Herbert, and sat to read by the river.

Today was pretty chill, we didn't do too much, and tomorrow we're going to push our bodies to see what they can do!

El Nacional u18 de Brasil, en marcha en Aracajú

Fuente: CBAT  La carrera de 100 metros fue uno de los puntos destacados del programa vespertino de competencias de este viernes (11/08) del Campeonato Brasileño Interclubes Loterias Caixa Sub-18 de Atletismo, que continúa hasta el domingo (13/08), en la pista de la Universidad de Tiradentes , en Aracajú, Sergipe. Y tanto en la categoría femenina como masculina, los campeones se llevaron sus primeros títulos brasileños: Hakelly de Souza, de la AECD Macaé-RJ, con 12,50 (-0,5 m/s), y Wesley Dionísio da Silva, de la AD Centro Olímpico-SP, con 10,87 (-1,3 m/s).  "Estoy muy feliz por mi título brasileño porque solo entreno atletismo desde el año pasado. Mido 9,37 en los 75 y todavía soy sub-16", dijo Hakelly, de 14 años. Fue descubierta por el profesor Hiller Franco, en el Programa de Atletismo de Macaé, un proyecto socioeducativo desarrollado después del horario escolar, una asociación entre CIEP 455 Maringá, las Secretarías de Educación y Deportes del Municipio de Macaé, patrocinado por Etesco, una empresa offshore. del área de Petróleo. “Entrenamos en la cancha de la escuela y en los alrededores, en las plazas y en la playa”, comentó el docente. El "espejo" de Hakelly es Nykolli Alves, en los 400 m vallas, su colega de proyecto, "que ya compitió en el Trofeo Brasil".  La plata fue para Ana Karoliny Almeida (Metahum/Fecop), con 12,55, y la medalla de bronce fue para Isadora Pereira (Clube Espéria-SP), con 12,66. La medalla de plata la ganó Matheus Gama (IPEC Londrina FEL-PR), con 11,00, y la de bronce con Pedro Henrique Ramos Dutra (Teutônia), con 11,02 (014), en un final muy ajustado con el cuarto lugar, Tiago Bonfim (CASO -DF), con 11.02 (018). Otrso ganadores fueron Alessandro Borges Soares en lanzamiento de bala con 19.11 (Alberto Rorigues quedó 2° con 18.87), Renán Firakawa Akamine en salto con garrocha (4.31), Barbosa en lanzamiento del martillo (63.12) y, en damas, Kimberly Cristina de Souza Assiz en lanzamiento del m,artillo con 57.64, delante de Laura Sales Correa con 54.69. Ceremonia de apertura  - La secretaria de Estado de Deporte y Recreación, Mariana Dantas, participó de la ceremonia de apertura y habló en nombre del gobernador Fabio Mitidieri de la satisfacción de Sergipe por recibir por primera vez un Campeonato Brasileño de Atletismo.   Mariana informó que "Sergipe, el estado más pequeño de Brasil, quiere incentivar a su población a conocer de cerca otros deportes". También señaló que el Gobierno del Estado de Sergipe está trabajando para integrar el deporte en las áreas de educación, economía y cultura. “Cuando reunimos todas estas áreas en un evento, también estamos aprovechando la experiencia de CBAt para formar profesionales y queremos que los atletas sean ejemplos de oportunidad para nuestros jóvenes.
