Here's a little something for ya :) Hope you enjoy teenage Matt, Foggy, and Theo!

"Hey guys? Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure. Shoot."

"How--how do get a girl to like you?"

Theo, sitting on the foot of Foggy's bed, leaned back against the wall with a chuckle. "Why do you need to know?"

"I just do," Matt replied, his face turning red.

"Nah, you're not gonna get off that easy," Foggy teased. "What's her name?"

"Why does that matter?"

"Ah, so there is a girl."

"Ooh, Matty's got a girlfriend!" Theo sang. Soon, Foggy had joined in the ditty.

"Shut up!" Matt yelled, throwing his pillow off his bed at them. "I"m being serious!"

Suddenly, their mother came through the door. "What is going on in here?"

"Matty's got a girlfriend! Matty's got a girlfriend!"

Anna looked from one side of the room, where Foggy and Theo were still singing jubilantly, to the other side, where Matt had hidden his face in his knees. "Oh, stop, you two!" The two boys stopped singing, but were still snickering behind their hands. "I said stop! Or would you like me to tell Matt about your first crushes?" That shut them both up. "That's what I thought."

Anna sat down on the end of Matt's bed. "Come downstairs with me, Matty. We can talk down there." Silently, Matt stood up, put on his glasses, unfolded his cane, and stood up. With a stern suggestion that the other two boys to brush their teeth and get to bed, she led Matt downstairs.

Anna sat Matt down at the kitchen table. "First, might I suggest not asking fifteen-year-old boys for dating advice?"

"Noted," said Matt with a sheepish half-smile.

"Now," she said, sitting down next to him and laying a hand on his arm, "tell me about this girl."

Matt's smile grew. "Her name is Karen. Karen Page. We're friends, but--"

"But you want to be more."

"Yeah. But I don't know how. I like being friends with her. She's really nice to everyone, except if you're mean to someone else. Then you'd better watch out. I like being around her, and I don't want to ruin our friendship by coming on too strong or whatever. But--I really like her, Mom."

"She sounds great."

"She is. She really is. And that's why it's so important that I don't screw this up."

"What makes you think you'll screw it up?"

"'Cause I'm--not good at this. Usually, I can talk to girls just fine, but Karen's different. I don't know what to do!"

"Oh, honey," said Anna, "just be you. She obviously likes you already, or you wouldn't be friends."

"But what if she doesn't like me like that?"

"What's not to like?"

"Mom, I can't see."

"And Karen already knows that. And she knows that you do just fine, anyway." Matt was silent. "Honey, just be you. You're smart, and kind, and loving, and you stand up for what you believe in."

"So, what, I should just--tell her?"

"As your aunt once told your father before he asked me out: 'Grow a pair.'" Matt laughed, and Anna ruffled his hair. "In all seriousness, Matt, just be honest with her. And if your brothers say anything else to you, you tell me. I've got tons of ammunition."

"Thanks, Mom."

"Karen is lucky to have you."

"No," said Matt, shaking his head. "I'm the lucky one."

So I was listening to a podcast that Deborah Ann Woll did just after Season 2 came out (I like listening to podcasts about shows I like even if they’re 6 years old, sue me), and she said the following about Matt and Karen’s relationship. She’s so eloquent. It’s like she read my thoughts about why Matt and Karen could be so good together if they were just honest with each other and why it’s so frustrating to watch them dance around each other in Season 2: 

“I think that, especially now that we’re exploring some of the romance and the feelings between Matt and Karen...the idea is that they really are so similar and could be a true comfort to one another, but they’re both too scared to show who they really are because these are dark things. I mean, how do you go to someone that you’re falling in love with and say, ‘So, I kind of killed a guy, and I covered it up.’ It’s just...you immediately lose that person. And especially if you think that he is this incredible lawyer who’s gonna save the world through legal means, and here you are going off, you know, sneaking in dark alleys and breaking into people’s houses. You know, as far as Karen knows, she’s the worst that there is of the three of them. And I think, similarly, Matt feels the same. So...I...you know, this is gonna be a journey about the two of them reaching a point where they can be honest with each other.” 

Anyway, I hope they get a real chance to try and make their relationship work in Born Again.

I get that Elektra loves Daredevil / Karen loves Matt was the parallel they were going for in S2 but I actually think there’s a lot more to the dynamic between Karen and Matt.

I really didn’t like Karen throughout the latter half of S2; as has been pointed out by many, the way she treats Matt for being Daredevil is extremely hypocritical considering how obsessed she is with Frank. I also thought her treatment of Matt as a person was unfair, especially considering she knew he was hiding something personal that he was struggling with and she had never been forthcoming about her own past/demons.

Now, Karen’s past is obviously highly traumatic and I’m not saying that she owes her truth to anyone - but neither does Matt. Karen knows that he not only experienced and lived through his father’s murder but was literally blinded in a car accident when he was seven. I was frustrated by the level of access she demanded and believed she deserved from Matt in pursuing a relationship with him, when she wasn’t willing to give him the same.

Ultimately, they both keep secrets from each other - the ‘darker’ side of themselves, per say. Thus, I think they fall in love with each other’s light, ‘good’ side. This placed an unrealistic expectation on each other and the relationship and was not sustainable.

But by the end of S3 all the cards are on the table. No more secrets, nothing to hide. I was interested in beyond S3 (if they’d ever gotten that far) how they would’ve developed that relationship. As Charlie has mentioned and the comics have shown, Karen is Matt’s main love interest. Would they have continued in that vein? Could this romance survive with the full awareness of each other’s darkness, without the ability to make each other feel ‘good’?

Looking for support from my fellow Karedevil shippers…

I know I have no business being this upset, but these new set photos just…ripped my heart out?

This past year has been ROUGH and Karedevil has been just about the only thing that brought me joy. I feel like my mental health depends on Matt and Karen getting back together in DDBA, and the potential of that not happening makes me want to throw up.

It’s pathetic, but it’s how I feel.
