Keelan rests his hand on the knife in his belt, grinding his teeth. “Shall I kill him, my queen?”

The envoy’s eyes widen and he scowls. “You should keep your mad dog on a tighter leash, Your Majesty.”

“Perhaps you should keep your tongue on a tighter leash.” Maura’s voice betrays no hint of emotion. “Or my mad dog may find reason to tear it out.”

Keelan allows himself a tiny, vicious grin. The envoy smartly does not reply.

1899: 1x08: "The Key": Prometheus Roll Call

Beware: Season 1 spoilers! If you have not watched all eight episodes of 1899 season 1 on Netflix, get thee to your streaming device and watch! Then come back for a quick review with some visual aids for episode 8. =)

This will be a review of the basic layout and head count in the closing scene of the finale. We see Maura wake up in a vertical sleep pod set into the wall of a cylindrical chamber. Her hair is shorn compared to her 1899 simulation 'do and she is dressed in a grey jumpsuit of the type that we saw her and Daniel wearing in Elliot's recovered memory.

Once she steps out of her pod, she takes in her surroundings. There are 16 sarcophagi in the cylindrical chamber. They are in four groups of four against the wall, separated by sections of wall with portholes. She begins with the group that includes her own now-empty pod and examines the room from left to right, or clockwise, as viewed from the top looking down.

When she recognizes Eyk (sans shock of white in his beard), she is visibly surprised, even taking a few steps backward. Understandable, as the last time she saw him, his First Mate had shut him down and told her it would be "impossible" to bring him back. Still, I have to wonder if something else might be behind her reaction. In any case, she then looks down at her left hand and considers the wedding band on her ring finger for a second or three. Why at that moment? Because Eyk is her husband? Or because she must remind herself that she is married to Daniel?

When she looks back up from the ring, she turns her gaze directly on Krester, whose face is not scarred. Could it be Krester to whom she's married? Watch those seconds again, from Maura turning from the ring to Krester. It's as if she knows whose face she will see next.

Tove's sarcophagus does not appear to be any different in shape compared to everyone else's, but it's possible that its design might accommodate a pregnant woman without any outward sign or difference. Difficult to say, which means that Tove *might* be pregnant, but is not obviously so.

2099 PROMETHEUS MATH.

There do not appear to be any doors set into the wall. Once we get an exterior view, that makes sense. The chamber is one of several cylinders attached by their "floors" to a larger wide octagonal boxy base structure, ten of which are connected to one another in an oval ring revolving around the central axis of Spaceship Prometheus. There does not appear to be any inhabitable space directly above the chamber. I think this means that the only egress from the chamber, that doesn't lead to the vacuum of space, must be set into the floor, behind/in the middle of the ring of consoles and cables in the center of the room.

When we get a side view of the spacecraft, stem to stern, we see that there are two rings of ten octagonal boxes, and each of those boxes actually appears to be two conjoined blocks, and each of those blocks has eight cylindrical sleep chambers attached, four above and four below. Let's assume all the chambers have sixteen sarcophagi. If every pod holds a person, the ship carries 2 x 10 x 2 x 8 x 16 = 5120 people in hibernation.

The 2099 Prometheus readout tells us there are 1423 passengers and 550 crew, giving a total of 1973 people. Yikes. That's less than half capacity. Have we seen this scenario before…?

CAP: We're carrying barely any freight. Just like the Prometheus. Our cabins aren't fully occupied either. The company travels this route w/o making any profit.

OLEK: The bunkers are half loaded. Two are almost empty.

CAP: Am I mad? I know this ship inside out. This is not supposed to be here.

CAP: This is impossible. We're on a ship. How does a whole landscape fit inside a ship? MAURA: This isn't the only one.

CAP: It's as if all of this is somehow part of the ship…

If there hasn't been a catastrophic malfunction or accident on the 2099 Prometheus before Maura wakes, this *does* sound similar to the state of the 1899 Prometheus and Kerberos, launched with many fewer passengers and much less freight and supplies than capacity. And how was all that supposedly empty space used? It housed the backstory worlds of the passengers and crew. Does a similar traumatic funhouse await Maura and company in "2099"? Is this one virtual as well? Or—wishing/reaching—could it possibly be Westworld-ly physical?

WHO'S MISSING?

Everything we've seen and heard so far tells me that that empty berth must have been Ciaran's. Does Ciaran wear the face of someone we've already met in the simulation? Who of the 1899 Kerberos passengers and crew Maura interacted with is conspicuously absent in this chamber?

Did the 2099 Prometheus assign paired/adjacent sarcophagi for couples and family who booked together? The placement of the sleepers in Maura's chamber does seem to support the idea (for me, at least =).

Maura is beside Krester. (I mention it because of that post-ring-gazing look.)

Olek is beside Ling Yi.

Iben is beside Anker.

Angel is beside Ramiro.

Jerome is beside Clemence is beside Lucien. (Interrrresting…)

Mystery Sleeper (Ciaran?) is beside Jerome

Have to say, I'm a little disappointed that Franz was not asleep next to Tove. =)

Just wanted to get this info Out There in this post. Will save follow-up theorizing on the identity and whereabouts of the mystery sleeper for future posts, hopefully.

Today, reading about another redhead in an asylum, I realized how much I miss Maura.

Her chapped lips, messy hair, half-skirt half-pant dress, medical books, pendent, daddy issues, potential mommy issues, definite marital issues, her general dismissal of rules, and her treading on the last threshold of sanity

I miss her, because despite her simulated world, she was real.

Hello, just wanna ask, which characters are confirmed LGBT? It seems Runi is interested in (exclusively?) gals, Cutlass and Riptail are dating...

Cutlass and Riptail are longtime partners, Rip being gay and the original Cutlass (who belongs to SmolderBone on dA) was bi if I remember right. Iralee's romantic preferences were revealed in one of the bonus comics — she's a non-monogamous lady-liker. As a trivial little treat, Dorus (Nero and Runi's dad) is a little bi-romantic, confirmed in this piece I made for a pride collab.

I also had a loose thought of Kasko's mother being lesbian since Kasko has no father figure in his life, and there's a panel on page 155 where a doe is leaning on her during their hard time. But this is so vague you can just choose your own headcanon.

Runi did indeed have a blushy moment over Nero's Usma comment, but I won't confirm anything!

1899 & DARK Astrology (Western & Vedic) Life, Death & Rebirth BHARANI, UTTARA BHADRAPADA & UTTARA PHALGUNI

[Part 2]

See Part 1 for the intro of Bharani (13:20-26:40 degrees Aries Vedic/Taurus Western) & Uttara Bhadrapada (3:20-16:40 degrees Pisces Vedic/Aries Western) Nakshaktras.

HASTA NAKSHATRA is explored in Part 3

RECAP: Previously, we looked at the main three characters (Daniel, Maura, Eyk) of 1899, including Jonas from Dark. The actors for Daniel & Maura both have Taurus Suns (Aries—Bharani Nakshatra) The actors who play Eyk and young Jonas from Dark both have Taurus Moons (Aries—Bharani)

These characters go through a journey of forgetting and remembering, just like the cycles of life, death and rebirth.

They're seekers, and they wish to understand the macrocosm of their situations. They're brave enough to go into the depths of the darkness and go on deeper, and deeper, down the rabbit hole. In the intro of 1899 we hear a remixed iteration of "White Rabbit" by Eliot Summer.

Themes of getting lost, distortion of reality, shifts of perception, expansion of understanding the self, and facing the illusory dangers of unknown lands and foreign territory.

In these lands, it's easy to discover tempting delights, that can trap us deeper into the web—

BHARANI is called "the star of restraint," emphasizing the need for self-control, as the ruler of this nakshatra (13-26' Aries [Vedic] & 7-20' Taurus [Western]) is VENUS. There's a natural tendency toward self-indulgence with this planetary rulership.

Self-indulgence can come in many forms:

ARIES—impulsive desire, seeking control/dominance, initiating ideas & taking action.

TAURUS—physical pleasures, tangible accomplishments, and material possession

Aries North Node & Libra South Node (Western) with both Andres (Eyk/Stranger) & Aneurin (Daniel) having Uttara Bhadrapada Rahu, Andres has it as his Sun placement too.

The director & the actor who plans Jonas share the same NN & SN, Rahu & Ketu. (They're about ~20yrs apart in age)

There's a polarity with Saturn (Ruler of Nakshatra) & Jupiter (Ruler of Pisces) here, the serious analytical mind of these natives are balanced with innate wisdom and an ease of effort. Uttara Bhadrapada coils and tightens, like the serpent symbol, strong, yet moving effortlessly through its journey, while still wielding the power to strike at any moment.

They are the epitome of natural power and grace.

UTTARA PHALGUNI is between 26:40 degrees Leo and 10:00 degrees Virgo [Vedic] & 20' Virgo - 4' Libra [Western]

This is the guiding light, the faith that leads at the end of hope.

This nakshatra is ruled by the Sun, and in the sign of Virgo it's influenced by Mercury here as well. With consideration to the ARIES/LIBRA axis in Western, there's an exploration of relationship to self and others, and the lengths we'll go to sacrificing ourselves or others for the ultimate cause, where we stake our commitment.

In the show, this theme is the core magnetism of the character's story arcs.

How far are we willing to go to save another?

And who, or what, are we willing to sacrifice in order to save the ones we love?

From the Vedic perspective, we're taking a look at the PISCES/VIRGO axis—the freedom, surrender of oneness consciousness, of trust, faith and unconditional love versus the rigid structure of reason that categorizes right and wrong.

It's interesting that the symbol of UTTARA PHALGUNI is represented as a BED. It's where we rest and recharge, and it's also where we may provide a warm hearth for others to feel safe in our care.

Giving & receiving. Characters in both shows (1899 & Dark) are often seen waking in their bed, usually from a dream. Partly, it alludes to the existing alternative realities and tests our sense of perception.

What's real? What's not? Which one's best?

Living in a dream can feel more satisfying to some, gripping onto another illusion as a "better" alternative, a deeper trap of the karmic cycle. RAHU & KETU, the serpent eating itself (ouroboros).

The lesson here is in facing the surrender of one's ego, the impulsive desire to attach onto pleasures and selfish gains, in order to achieve freedom for all (collective awakening), and release from samsara.

Uttara Phalguni emphasizes the polarity of independence and co-dependency. One can succumb to loneliness, and fear the weight of relationships, but desire it, chasing it within a fantasy. Or they can feel lost and scattered without an anchor to bind them to the web of life's drama.
