the thing about Lucretia and Maureen Miller being so so so divorced is that Lucas kinda inherited the divorced energy. like I do not think that stinky man has been in a single long-lasting relationship, but he carries so much loser guy energy with him that he's nevertheless divorced in spirit

How do you feel about maurcretia (Maureen/Lucretia) and if the feelings are positive, Headcanons?
Ooh I've always kinda liked the idea that they were once in love.
Like I feel like they both have different kinds of insight on the world that would pair well together, and that it was mostly about creating the bureau at first, but slowly they grew to care for each other.
I imagine it's like Barry and Lup, where the most important part of what they do is the research and work and innovation, but there's something gentle and comforting in the background.
I think Lucretia would feel a lot of guilt as she felt those things, though. She would push Maureen away because what's more important is saving this plane and getting her family back. And how could she love with everything at stake?
Maybe they met after Lucretia escaped wonderland. Maureen wanted to know more about what happened and the science behind it all, especially the aging. And they worked together to build the lab, science and magic hand in hand, then again with the Bureau.
Maybe Lucretia would turn around sometimes while they were working, and look at Davenport. Because he was with her for those ten years before the reclaimers even came into question. I imagine she frequently broke down about what she had done to him- and Maureen caught her one time, and tried to comfort her, but Lucretia couldn't tell her what she was upset about.
When it came time for Taako, Magnus, and Merle to join, I think that's when she decided to push Maureen away for the best. It was easy, really, at least practically. She was spending all her time in her lab now, doing some sort of planar research? She was being cagey about it, but it's not like Lucretia complained; the less they spoke, the more she could focus on her mission and not her.
And then, Maureen passed away. Lucas was vague about it, which Lucretia understood because it was surely traumatic. She was heartbroken but kept her head up.
The discovery of the Gaia sash certainly helped her keep her mind off it-- and when the reclaimers returned and told her of their conversation with the red robe, that was a reminder of how crucial it was to get all the relics found. The red robe had called the thrall a hunger, and she remembered how powerful that thrall was. But people seemed to react to each relic in different ways. The Phoenix Fire Gauntlet was all-consuming, and the sash was mostly about the sheer power. But the Oculus hadn't even been used. Maybe the other few relics were being used more cleverly-- she hadn't heard anything about the philosopher's stone in a while, nor the temporal chalice. Maybe, just maybe, they were being used in more secretive ways.
She thought back to Maureen, and the last conversation they had. She had told Lucretia she was really close to a breakthrough, that she was suddenly able to make amazing discoveries... but she never explained how. Was it possible she had gotten ahold of a relic?
She was anxious about it until Lucas called her stone of far speech. He was annoying but he was like a son to her. However snotty he may be. But the news that he had the Philosopher's stone, and had been using it for months terrified her.
When the reclaimers relayed the events in the lab to her, Lucretia's heart shattered. One of the relics they had made killed the person she loved. And they killed her son too.
I think that this, and the reappearance of Barry, pushed her to double down on training. And she could see the signs of the hunger starting to make its way in. If they didn't hurry up, the hunger would take everyone else.
Well that rambling turned more into storytelling but yeah. I think they were tragically in love

written for @tazsapphicweek 🌙🔭
summary: Her eyes sparkled like the ocean. Lucretia was ancient compared to her, but somehow felt very young again.

Lucas Miller was at the door when Magnus opened it. He opened his wimpy little mouth to say what was probably some wimpy little words, but Magnus shut the door in his face and went back to the couch, instead.
"Who was it?" Lucretia asked from where she sat amidst her pile of birthday presents. Magnus settled himself down. Across the room, Lup and Taako were throwing wrapping paper at each other. Davenport had his head in his hands in a way that very much reminded Magnus of when they were being too rambunctious on the Starblaster. Both Barry and Merle had somehow managed to fall asleep.
"Uh," Magnus said, side-eyeing Kravitz, who had just gotten hit in the face with a ball of wrapping paper. He leaned in closer to Lucretia, trying not to be overheard because he honestly didn't know what would happen if Kravitz came face to face with Lucas again. Probably something enjoyable, but not the type of enjoyable fit for Lucretia's birthday. "Lucas Miller."
"Oh," Lucretia said. Right on time, he knocked on the door again, although it was rather timid this time. "I'll go-"
"No, no-" Magnus said, already standing back up. "It's your birthday, Creesh, relax."
"But-"
"Already going!" Magnus said. "Magnus rushes out!"
Lucretia let out a bubble of laughter as he hurried out of the room again. This time when he opened the door, Lucas spoke right away.
"Sorry-" he started off with, which was good. His voice was just as nasally and annoying as before, which was not good. "Sorry, I won't be long, I just- Here. For, uhm. For Lucretia."
He thrust a present into Magnus's hands, refusing to meet his eye.
"What's in it?" Magnus asked suspiciously. The package was small and rectangular, with plain brown paper and a dark blue bow. There was a tag on it.
"Well, it's a gift, which means it's kinda a surprise-"
"What's in it, Miller?"
"Watercolors," Lucas admitted, pushing up his glasses. "I, uh- she used to paint, all the time. Made a portrait of me and- and mom and her, so when I saw these in Neverwinter I sorta just- I thought she would like them, y'know? It's, uhm. Well, I just figured, since she's my step-mom, I'd get her someth-"
"That's nice," Magnus said, not really wanting to hear anymore. "Bye."
He shut the door on Lucas's face again, cutting him off halfway through his own goodbye. Magnus lifted to present up, trying to decide if it was actually okay to give to Lucretia or not. Lucas didn't seem like the type to meddle with gifts, even if he was a shitty person. Personally, he didn't know why Lucretia still-
Why Lucretia...
Step-mom?
Magnus opened the door again. Lucas was halfway down the steps.
"Step-mom?" Magnus demanded, marching down after him. Lucas squeaked and nearly tripped down the rest of the steps, hurrying to get to the bottom before Magnus got to him.
"Ye- yeah!" he said. "Step-mom! She never- she never told you?" He seemed to wilt at the idea of that. Magnus, who wasn't the most tactful even with the people he cared about, said,
"Uh, no?" Magnus said. "When did this happen?"
"Well, uhh, a few years ago now, uhm." Lucas was wringing his hands, still looking anywhere besides Magnus. "I thought she woulda told you after, y'know, the memories and things, but I guess not, so it's fine-"
"But your mom is-"
"Yeah," Lucas said tensely.
"Oh," Magnus said, and with that came the realization that he wasn't the only one who had lost his wife in their years alone. He and Barry had talked about the feeling, sometimes, but Lucretia hadn't brought it up at all and- oh. Magnus swallowed.
"I'm gonna go," Lucas said uncomfortably.
"Yeah," Magnus said, finally getting to meet his eyes. Fuck, he hated Lucas Miller but now there were layers to it. Goddamnit. "I'll give this to her."
"Thanks," Lucas said before scurrying down the garden path.

Canonically, Lucretia was first accidentally inoculated by the Voidfish after being splashed and getting some of the tank water in her mouth.
I like to think she didn't make the connection that it was specifically about drinking the ichor, and that when it came time to inoculate Maureen and Lucas, she dumped a bucket of gross jellyfish water over their heads.

"You are coming down with me,  Hand in unlovable hand"
[Id: Digital drawing of Maureen Miller and Lucretia from The Adventure Zone Balance. Maureen is a brown skinned woman with long, dark hair on a ponytail. She is wearing glasses, a lab coat and brown boots and pants. She is holding a book by her chest. Behind her are golden halos of different colors. Lucretia is a taller black woman wearing a blue dress and cape. She is holding a white staff in her hand. They are not looking at each other, but holding hands. Background is pink with black edges. ]
Maurcretia? In my 2021? More likely than you’d think! Highly inspired of how the graphic novel handled their relationship.

@taznovembercelebration day 12: enemies, lovers
“And there’s seven of these things?”
“Seven. We know a little bit about some of them. We’re still doing research on the others.”
“And you say they all are from different schools of magic?”
“Correct. We’re fairly certain there’s evocation, transmutation, illusion, necromancy, abjuration, conjuration, and divination.”
“You really think you can find and destroy them all?”
“Not alone. My quest for the Animus Bell, the relic of necromancy, nearly killed me. But that’s why I believe so deeply in the Bureau’s mission. A combined force and the evils these things have wrought on this world can be undone.”
“Well, anything we can do to help. So long as you do keep explaining these theories about the planarverse you keep talking about.”
“Sounds like a deal.”
--
“It’s going to run on clean fuel. I won’t bore you with all the details, but this means it’s going to be remarkably light, won’t let off too much waste, and should be easy to navigate as well. A few cloaking enchantments and it’s going to blend in as a false moon, just like you want. We’re hoping that construction could be finished within a few months. Basically, you’re getting Miller Labs 2.0. Consider yourself very lucky,” Maureen pointed out a couple of different details on the large blueprint spread between herself and Lucretia, their once-steaming coffees long since forgotten.
Lucretia gazed at the schematics with a kind of awe Maureen only recognized within herself. “So there’s really not going to be a need to go down planetside?” A tenuous hope encircled her words. Maureen had noticed that Lucretia’s been hesitant about returning to the surface. She assumed it had something to do with the sprinkling of fresh scars all over Lucretia’s body, mementos of horrors she declined to speak about. Or the white-knuckle grip she kept on her gnarled staff, her support and security blanket in one object. Or how her eyes never seemed to stay fixed on anyone; her gaze always darted around as though she was on alert for something that threatened to creep in from around any given corner.
Maureen nodded. “That’s absolutely right. It sustains itself fairly well and you could always enlist a merchant to gather and sell goods to anyone who might be living up there,” she paused as Lucretia smiled in a tiny, private victory. “But, in the off chance you ever need to make a trip to the surface, we’ve figured out a solution for that as well!” Maureen announced excitedly as she unfurled another large blueprint on top of the one laid out on the kitchen table. Grand metallic and glass spheres danced across the page like something out of a wild science fiction story.
Lucretia pulled her gaze from the blueprint and grinned at her. “Maureen, these are incredible,” the compliment enrobed in a thick layer of sincerity. Maureen was known to balk at any and all praise but it felt so nice coming from Lucretia’s mouth.
“You have no idea how much fun designing all of this has been. You’ve provided some titillating puzzles for us and it hasn’t been easy but finding elegant solutions to messy problems is thrilling,” Maureen smiled earnestly at Lucretia before blushing a bit self-consciously. “You’ve really gotta keep me from rambling, Luce. I’ll talk your ear off if you’re not careful.”
“No, I love hearing you talk like this. You’re just so brilliant and you’re so passionate it…” Lucretia ran a quick hand through her cropped hair. “Don’t apologize for it.”
Maureen opened her mouth to say more but was distracted by a loud crash.
“Shit!”
Maureen and Lucretia both whipped their heads in the direction of the crash.
“Lucas? Hon? You okay?” Maureen called down the hallway. She had long since stopped going racing into the lab every time she heard an outburst from her son.
A pause. “Um. I-I think there might be a situation with that children’s toy I’ve been prototyping,” Lucas called nervously.
Maureen sighed. “Well, duty calls.”
“Good luck.”
--
“Oh! I forgot to show you earlier, reach into the drawer over there, I have a present for you,” Maureen murmured, nearly asleep.
“A present?”
“Mmhmm.”
“For what?”
Maureen snorted quietly. “Just grab it and I’ll explain.”
Lucretia stretched her arm and blindly felt around the bedside table before her fingers closed around a small, cool stone. She held it in front of Maureen’s face. “This it?”
“It is. You know those Stones of Farspeech we’ve been working on?” Maureen asked, taking the stone from Lucretia for a moment.
Lucretia scooted closer to Maureen and nodded.
“Well, I wanted to give you one.”
Lucretia twitched with silent laughter. “You already gave me one.”
Maureen smirked and fiddled with the stone in her hand for a moment. “This one is a little more specialized. It’s a private frequency. Right now I only have it attuned to my own frequency but you can add any that you need or want. Just a nice little point of contact,” she said, returning the stone to Lucretia.
She turned the stone over in her hand before returning it to the bedside table. Lucretia smiled softly at Maureen. “I don’t think I’ll be attuning it to anyone else’s stone.”
Maureen slipped her hand in Lucretia’s. “You’re such a dork.”
Lucretia rested her head on Maureen’s shoulder. “Well, you’re a nerd, so it balances out.”
--
“I would love nothing more than for both of you to join the Bureau. Officially.” Lucretia said over breakfast. She’d been spending more and more time at the moon base so this meal was a nice return to normalcy. Or, it was, at least.
Maureen and Lucas exchanged a silent look. He widened his eyes slightly and gave an almost imperceptible shake of his head. She raised her eyebrows at him for a moment before returning her attention to Lucretia.
“Luce –“
Lucretia visibly recoiled. “Please don’t call me that,” she said tersely. She’d been becoming less and less comfortable with nicknames and Maureen couldn’t quite figure out why.
Lucas looked from his mother to Lucretia and back to his mother.
“Lucretia,” Maureen corrected, “You know we support the Bureau but neither of us really want to deal with all of the red tape. It’s nothing personal, you know this.”
“I just think that it would benefit us all in the long run.”
Maureen smiled gently. “Wouldn’t that be a conflict of interest, anyway?”
“I do suppose it would be,” Lucretia relented. She wasn’t satisfied with this answer but decided not to push the subject again.
--
“You’re telling me you’ve never thought about the potential good that could be done with these relics? I-I mean Lucretia, it feels wildly wasteful to just dust these objects!” Maureen pleaded with Lucretia. They had been having this argument more and more often in the past few months. Lucretia barely returned to the Miller Lab due to her workload so Maureen and Lucas had been spending more time on the base. The pair were the only non-members permitted.
“Maureen. I’m not discussing this again. These relics can only cause harm. The thrall they cast over people? It leads them to do terrible things. They cannot be used for good. When we find a relic, it will be destroyed.” Lucretia said sternly, watching Maureen carefully.
“But imagine the implications! That Philosopher’s Stone you’ve told me about? T-That could set off a scientific revolution that could rocket this plane into something absolutely incredible!”
“Or it could be found by child. A child who turns their village and everyone inside to peppermint. These. Relics. Are. Dangerous.” Lucretia’s mouth was a firm line.
“Luce –“
“Stop calling me that!” Lucretia snapped. She paused and shook her head. “Dr. Miller, I think it would be best if you and Lucas left.” She couldn’t look Maureen in the eyes.
Maureen jerked back, feeling like she’d just had the wind knocked out of her. “Dr. Miller?”
“I think from here on out, it would be best if we kept a professional distance.”
“Lucretia, you don’t mean that.”
“And going forward, please just refer to me as Madam Director. I have an image to uphold here. I can’t let my employees pick up a bad habit.” Lucretia’s voice was steady sounding to anyone who didn’t know her. She cleared her throat. “I would also prefer that you both clear any future visits to the base with me first.”
Maureen looked for any sign that Lucretia was going to bend on this, that she was going to apologize or laugh or cry or show any sign that she wasn’t serious. But none came.
“Well, Madam Director, I don’t think that’s going to be a concern from me. I’ll pass the message on to Lucas. I’d hate for you to have to break protocol,” Maureen spat before storming out of Lucretia’s chamber.
Lucretia’s hand went to the Stone of Farspeech around her neck. She immediately wanted to call Maureen, tell her it was all a mistake. But she couldn’t. Instead, she looked at the picture of the three of them on her desk and let the tears she’d been holding back drip down her stony face.
And just like that, she was alone again.

🌀🌤🌧🌪 :3c
my computer's displaying the emojis weird so hopefully I got the right ones, let me know if not!
🌀Post the fic summary for a fic you haven't written/published yet. It can be hypothetical or something you really plan on releasing...
okay I don't think I had a single proper summary written for a WIP prior to now, so thank you for encouraging me to get off my ass and write a tentative one for the maurcretia divorce fic:
At one point, Maureen never thought she could fall in love with a client of Miller Labs — but that was before Lucretia came into her life, brilliant and witty and mysterious, and Maureen is hooked, drawn as is her nature to Lucretia and her secrets.
At another point, Maureen never thought she could fall out of love with Lucretia — and she doesn't, not exactly — but nevertheless, as the pair's dueling projects near completion, the weight of secrets and stubbornness weighs heavier and heavier.
were they ever married? no one's quite sure. are they divorced? i hope to convince you that they absolutely are, in a fic coming very very soon :)
🌤️Share your favorite piece of dialogue from your WIP.
from "untitled barry midlife crisis" fic, which is set shortly pre-starblaster:
“I — I fucking figured you were working on the bond engine, Barry, you’re always working on the bond engine — but for Pete’s sake, for how goddamn long this time? Did you stay the night here?!”
Barry leaps to his feet, immediately the most animated that Davenport’s seen him in days.
“Dropped my fantasy car keys down the fantasy parking lot sewer last night!” he exclaims, holding up his hands as if to add what can you do? “So I came back to my lab, settled down for the night, and had a whole fantasy mid-life crisis!”
I actually rewrote this one recently and it's full of STEM major in-jokes that are funny mainly to me but possibly other people as well, it's basically complete but I'm saving it for when I need to post a breather between angsty fics. speaking of,
🌧️Share something angsty from your WIP.
from a "lup lives... until glamour springs" AU:
“Taako, I don’t think she’s going to make it.”
Taako sits bolt upright. The door in front of him is closed, the room is dim — dimmer than he remembers leaving it, even — and Lup is still breathing softly, thank gods, thank more fucking gods than Taako can remember the names of —
And looming over foot of the bed is a human-shaped specter, cloaked in black shadows and a glowing crimson robe. On reflex, Taako throws an arm over Lup, clutching his wand.
I wrote most of this one just yesterday, and it occupies a very specific place on the hurt-comfort spectrum that I honestly don't know how to articulate 😭
🌩️ Share something funny/cracky from your WIP.
ooh I got a good one from a basically complete hurloane piece I'm gonna try and polish up for next week:
“Ooh, babe, you’ve gotta see this meme Carey posted,” Sloane says with a chuckle, and shows Hurley her screen. It’s a very, very compressed Fantasy JPEG of a horse that’s captioned, in Fantasy Impact font: “jeffandrew found some of the horses and made them vampire horses.”
“Wow. So deep,” Hurley deadpans. “Is this the rogues group chat again?”
“Yeah. Magnus reacted with a cow emoji, Barry replied with a picture of himself holding up a piece of paper that reads ‘I don’t understand this meme and at this point I’m too afraid to ask,’ and it looks like Angus didn’t see this yet — which he better not have, ‘cause Carey posted it way past his bedtime!”
there's more group chat silliness where that came from in the final wip so stay tuned :)
(send me writing ask emojis!)

🌹 :D
Couldn't pick a single sentence again, so here's this short little interaction :D
~
“Before Maureen left with Kravitz, she asked me to send along a message to you,” Julia says, and the Director goes rigid.
“What was the message?”
Julia's face softens. “She said, she's sorry, and... she loves you.”
The Director looks at her for a long time, and she starts blinking really fast before she looks down at her hands clasped together on the table. “Thank you,” she says quietly, her voice strained.

I love post-Wonderland-meeting maurcretia because Maureen’s like “ah yes a powerful magic user who’s been tempered by age and experience” (which Lucretia IS but shouldn’t look like it) and Lucretia’s just this 20ish year old like
“oh shit she a MILF”
