where no storms come

There were many empty rooms in Rivendell. But there were many guests, too, Elves who had arrived in order to cross the sea in the same great convoy as Elrond himself. They were waiting for the last to arrive, and then they would depart, streaming across the wilds and plains of Eriador, over the Ered Luin, down into Lindon. With them would go history, wisdom, learning and memory: beauty and song. And it would not come back.

Among this throng, Maglor passed, perhaps, as a wild Elf, who had come in from the wilderness to make that journey with them.

At the end of the Third Age, Maglor finds his way to Rivendell, and must decide whether or not to sail West with Elrond.

Last TV show: Pékin Express, it's a french adventure show in which the participants only have 1€ a day to travel in another country. That's also a race from a city to another. This year it's in Ouzbekistan !

Currently Watching: Picard Season 2 (only watched the 1st episode but I'm so excited), Ranking of Kings (a really cute anime about a deaf prince and magic), Otaku!Otaku! (An anime about 4 geeks who work in a random company in japan and become friends/lovers, it's so fun !)

Currently Reading: the first Book of the Heroes of Olympus

The heir

There are so many things Maitimo wants to learn, some for the sake of his house and family and some others “just because.”

[And wow! this time there were quite a few suggestions, so be patient with me, I’m going to try and divide into two categories:]

The first category is about everything Nelyafinwe considers he might need for his future as the heir of his father and grandson of the King –things that are fun to do but that also have a practical use –like Calligraphy (he practices his strokes on the desk at the back), writing (he corresponds with a bunch people – mostly Findekano but also some not-so-secret letters between him and his uncle Nolofinwe), reading subjects like History and Diplomacy and Economy and Dominion of Living Things (governance?), Linguistics and Culture of other Societies – basically he had to read the entirety of Tirion’s library— and when the scholars from the Noldor failed to provide him with all the information he needed, Nelyafinwe probably had to become a self-taught scholar (kinda like his dad in that way).

He also plays strategy games with Finwe (they send each other message birds with the next movement…almost like instant messaging!) and trains with weapons (he prefers the sword to the lance, but he keeps practicing with both in case a member *Gil* of his family *Galad* ever chooses to wield that sort of weapon).

He also has a tendency to..ehem… piss people off upset and manipulate people… it’s almost an art by this point considering Nelyo gathers tidbits of information like squirrels gather nuts for winter (all those scrolls on the back? They are letters containing possible blackmailing information!)

But then there are the other types of hobbies. These hobbies are things he really enjoys doing but probably has little to no time to work on (If he had more leisure time, he’d probably become really skilled at them, but as it is, it’s just a pastime), these include everything that has been relegated to a corner of his room: glass-making, jewelry making and instrument playing (he started playing at the same time as Makalaure, only Kano continued and Nelyo didn’t), pottery (he made a lot of pieces a long time ago, and now he just keeps a few vases as mementos), painting (while he’s not a master painter, his calligraphy skills have given him the ability to draw really fluid lines – he’s currently working on a portrait for his grandfather!) he also likes dancing, but he’d never admit he has won dancing tournaments (the trophies are hidden behind the history books!), and sometimes he gets inside the kitchen to do some baking (if you ask nicely, you might get a piece of cake!)

Currently he’s working on some bedtime story for his younger brothers instead of taking notes about public expenditure and warfare, but hey, no one is perfect!

Oh, and do you see those books under the desk at the back? Those are his favorite novels – that’s his guilty pleasure: he's actually a sucker for good romance & adventure novels— and he can’t wait to read the next installment of his fav romance series!

Ah! So that’s it! I can’t believe I was able to finish this series before the end of the year!

The Second Step

The fire's smoke did not have the distinctive thick darkness of the smoke that rose from orcish fires. But nothing made its way north through the mountain pass without being seen by the folk of Himring, and Maedhros had not been told of travelers in the area for months.

Favourite works of 2020

Thank you very much @elesianne and @amethysttribble for taggin me in this!

Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!

It was really tough to choose favourite things i’ve made this year, tbh. For me, this year was not so much about any individual works, as about how much my skills have grown overall and how much better i am as an artist compared to where i was in the beginning of the year. (also it felt like a whole ass decade and i don’t even remember what it was that i painted in, say, March)

That being said, here r some works I happen to be more proud of then the others:

1) Maedhros, Celegorm and Huan by the fire

This one is gonna be the oldest work on this list, probably. It was lots of first times, this art. First time drawing armor, first time (for a long time) drawing a dog, first time (for a long time) planning a full scene. I’ve spent so much time on it, put so many little details, braved so many challenges, that i guess it simply couldn’t not have a very special place in my heart, even if I am now acutely aware about all the flaws and mistakes it has.

2) Palette challenge Sauron

The thing wth this one is that i actually painted it twice: first time to try this whole palette thing out and then second cause i thought it looked too simple and boring. I don’t work with a limited color sceme very often, me being me and liking my freedom a bit too much (and indeed i ended up adding a darker shade in this one too for the sake of contrast), but this was really fun and i like how the mood turned out. Feel like those colours ended up being weirdly fitting, despite how rarelly they r actually used for Sauron

3) Valinorean Russingon piece

This one has pretty simple composition and i only vaguelly knew what I was going for here, but i love it. Like, really love it. I love how bright and sort of golden the light looks. I love how it works with Maitimo’s hair. I love how unified in colours it feels. And I love these boys to an unreasonable degree so that just might be a part of the reason i’m so attache to this work

4) Himring the ink thingy

I like working with traditional materials a lot and i don’t do it nearly enough. The other thing i don’t do nearly enough is buildings and landscapes. This little thing contains all of the above and, all things considered, looks pretty decent. I should probably make more works like this

5) Findis for the silm portrait collection

Honaestly, i kinda like the whole series a lot. I like drawing portraits and i’m trying to get better in character design and textures, even tho these r mostly about faces. And i like the variety of different textures that r happening here. Espesially hair. All curls r a nightmare.Also being gay for my own female character designs is now a thing, apparently

There’s also a bunch of stuff i kinda liked but never posted, for one reason or the other, so i just gonna dump it here, as honorable mentions
