OMG the new chapter. "HE LOOKED UP GRINNING LIKE THE DEVIL" CRUEL SUMMER ?!? OH MY GOD
Hehehe that line was indeed intentional!!! I had it a little closer to the lyric originally but I decided to change it slightly bc sometimes when I use song lyrics in chapters that’s all people comment on 🥲 I am very glad you still caught it though 😈

Chapter 1: Time to Shine
Annabeth nearly fell all the way over, but whoever she’d run into grabbed her arm before she could, providing a steadying grip that kept her from toppling to the floor.
“I’m so sorry, are you alrig…”
Annabeth involuntarily trailed off as she looked up into the face of the person she was speaking to.
Immediately she wished she had kept staring at his shoes. Running into someone because she wasn’t looking where she was going was embarrassing, but running into the most attractive man she’d ever seen in her life because she wasn’t looking where she was going-- that was on a whole different level.
He was about her age, maybe a few inches taller, with windswept black hair and eyes so green Annabeth was half-convinced they were contacts. He had perfectly balanced features, tan skin, and she could feel the well-defined muscles of his arm under her fingers as well as she could see them. Despite the fact that Annabeth had caused him to spill his whole drink down his front, he was still smiling, looking like he was trying not to laugh.
“I’ll survive,” he said, eyes sparkling with barely restrained humor, “It happens to the best of us, your highness.”

Epilogue: Into the Sun
“I told you we should’ve gone to Mexico,” she said, leafing through the rest of the magazine. She wasn’t sure she was doing a very convincing job of hiding her smile, because Percy just grinned.
“None of us speak Spanish,” he said, “Besides, the beaches are better in Greece.”
“You’re a snob,” Annabeth laughed. In fairness, she couldn’t deny that her view right now wasn’t absolutely gorgeous— clear blue water, perfectly white sand, a city of low, multi-colored buildings behind them and clear, greek sunlight bathing everything in a golden glow.
“You used to be a princess and I’m the snob?” Percy asked, mock offended.
“I think dating former royalty is very snobby,” Annabeth retorted, trying to hide her smile around the straw of her nearly empty drink.

Chapter 9: Missing Pieces
Annabeth cried the entire ride back to the palace.
She hated crying, and she’d been doing far too much of it lately, but in this case it felt justified. They were mostly angry tears— at herself, for being an idiot, at Percy for betraying her, at herself again for ever being stupid enough to believe anything he ever said was genuine.
Now that she was on the other side of it all, she could see just how far the manipulation went. He’d clearly been planning this entire thing from the start, intentionally sewing little seeds of doubt in her mind about how committed he was to the plan. Those little flashes of genuity she’d thought she’d seen were nothing but lies.
Every apology he’d given her, every smile and laugh and kind word had all been a lie. Every moment they’d shared in confidence, everything he’d confided in her, those must all have been lies too. His dad probably wasn’t even a jerk. Maybe he wasn’t even dead. Now it seemed obvious that he’d just said all those things to gain her trust, to mirror her own problems so he would seem sympathetic.
She’d believed all of it, and now she was paying the price.

Chapter 10: Make a Change
Due to Annabeth’s little morning tryst, there wasn’t an abundance of time to get ready— in fact, they barely had an hour and some change before they were shuffled into a limo on their way to the church.
The venue for the wedding wasn’t far; not by car at least. The roads had been cleared specifically for them, though the sidewalks were absolutely packed with people. Anyone on foot was going to have a hard time getting anywhere in the city today.
The car stopped far too early. The last thing Annabeth wanted to do was get out of it, but she knew in her heart she had to.

Chapter 7: Out of the Darkness
They sat in silence for probably a minute too long, Annabeth trying and failing to figure out what she wanted to say. She’d had the whole ride over to prepare, but she hadn’t used the time at all, and now she was regretting it.
But her time now was running thin and there was too much she wanted to say while they were alone, with no prying eyes or ears.
Annabeth bit her lip, steeling herself.
“I didn’t just come to say hi,” she finally admitted, “I kind of wanted to talk to you without everyone else around.”
If Jason was surprised by that, he didn’t show it. He seemed more curious than anything, which Annabeth took as a good sign.
“What about?” he asked.

Chapter 3: Throw Away the Heroes
She walked the few steps between her and the door, yanking it open with undue force. Percy had, predictably, followed her.
“Get in,” Annabeth said, gesturing to the closet. To her surprise, he did, and without protest. Annabeth followed him in, snapping the door shut behind her.
It was dark, and full of cleaning supplies. Annabeth found the light switch on the wall. She clicked it on, and one dilapidated lightbulb flickered to life.
“Why are we hiding?” Percy asked. He’d somehow managed to get close to her again, and she took a step back, nearly putting her foot in a mop bucket.
“We’re not hiding,” Annabeth said, though it was a thoroughly unconvincing lie.

Chapter 8: Take a Risk
“Let’s play a game,” Annabeth suggested, suddenly overcome with nostalgia.
“What game?” Percy asked, expression curious.
“It’s called truth,” Annabeth said, “And it’s like truth or dare, but you’re not allowed to pick any dares. Just truth.”
“So it's basically just a conversation,” Percy said, grinning. Annabeth laughed, elbowing his arm.
“What kind of conversations are you having that consist of nothing but questions and answers?” Annabeth asked.
“Alright, alright, fair,” Percy relented, “More of a mutual interrogation, then.”
“Got something to hide, Jackson?” Annabeth teased.
“Not at all. I’m an open book,” he said, leaning back against the tree, putting his free hand behind his head, “Ask me whatever your heart desires.”

Chapter 4: Trouble
"Jason Grace, I don't think we've met," Jason said, holding out his hand. It would have been a polite gesture, if not for the absolute ice in Jason's eyes.
"Percy Jackson," Percy said, taking Jason's hand and shaking it. He had a strong grip, which also irritated Percy for some reason.
"Ah, the guy trying to stage a palace coup," Jason said coolly, removing his hand.
“That’s me,” Percy said, giving Jason a wry smile.

Chapter 2: Send Me in the Fools
Mellie clicked forward before Hera could interject, something Annabeth would have to thank her for later. The next man had a pudgy but kind face, one that somehow reminded Annabeth of a cow.
"Clovis Pace—"
"No, he won't do. Narcoleptic," Hera said.
"That might not be so bad," Annabeth said. If he was asleep all the time, that meant she might not have to talk to him very much.
"Yes, well, as enjoyable as that might be for you, Annabeth, it might lead to some embarrassing scenarios for the rest of us," Hera said, rolling her eyes. Piper made a gagging motion with her finger, and Annabeth had to cough to hide her snicker. Hera ignored them, instead beginning to pace up and down the back row of the theater.
"You need someone smart. Someone capable of helping you run a country without ego getting in the way," Hera said, gesticulating broadly, nearly smacking Coach Hedge in the face in the process, "Someone attractive, but not arrogant. Someone titled."
"Someone like him?" Piper asked, pointing to the screen.

Chapter 6: Heart of Gold
“How much of that did you overhear?” she asked. Her voice was a little thick, like she was one more bad moment away from crying. That made Percy feel exceptionally guilty, but it was too late to back out now.
“Enough,” Percy admitted. Annabeth grimaced.
“A lot,” Percy added, feeling worse by the second, “I’m sorry, I was just walking, I didn’t mean to spy.”

🖊 i really want to read SOMETHING from the princess diary AU lmao
Your wish is my command 😌I put a long-ish segment in so it's under the readmore!
Emoji ask game 🤪
"Princess!" a voice called, and Annabeth had to bite back a swear. Mellie hadn't seen them yet, but she would in just a few seconds once she rounded the hallway's corner, and Annabeth was not in the mood to explain why Percy was hanging around her any more than she was in the mood to take that phone call she was avoiding.
Annabeth looked around frantically, feeling the barest sense of relief when she spotted a closet door just a few feet down the hall. She could hide in it alone, but seeing as Percy was intent on trying to irritate her, he'd probably just tell Mellie where she was, and then she'd been in an even more embarrassing situation than before. No, it was going to have to be both of them.
She walked the few steps between her and the door, yanking it open with undue force. Percy had, predictably, followed her.
"Get in," Annabeth said, gesturing to the closet. To her surprise, he did, and without protest. Annabeth followed him in, snapping the door shut behind her.
It was dark, and full of cleaning supplies. Annabeth found the light switch on the wall. She clicked it on, and one dilapidated lightbulb flickered to life.
"Why are we hiding?" Percy asked. He'd somehow managed to get close to her again, and she took a step back, nearly putting her foot in a mop bucket.
"We're not hiding," Annabeth said, though it was a thoroughly unconvincing lie. Especially when Mellie walked right past the door in the next moment, a little snippet of conversation drifting into the closet.
"I'm so sorry Your Grace, I can't seem to find her. I'll have her call you back..."
Annabeth closed her eyes in frustration, trying to keep herself from visibly cringing. She didn't even need to see him to know what his expression looked like.
"Dodging a call from your fiance?" he asked. The self-satisfaction in his voice was unbearable.
"I just don't want the two of us to be seen together," Annabeth said, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Right," he smirked, "That's why you pulled me into this closet with you."
"You're a menace," Annabeth said, turning towards the door, but Percy had repositioned himself, leaning across the doorframe and blocking her exit.
"You're not in love with that guy," he said.
Annabeth laughed, and it sounded manic even to her. "As if it matters."
"I think it does," Percy said, and there it was again that strange, uncharacteristic flash of sincerity.
