your max lore as promised my liege:

so max’s backstory picks up from where we left off w leonora’s backstory. so he was super against leaving this half dead girl alone to fend for herself, but his family was desperate for an assignment so they had to leave leonora. anyway it just doesn’t sit right with him so he tries to figure out some way to make good on his word and go see her again.

anyway so his family comes across the crescent and eventually decide that max will take crescent and his family will stay with their ship. so max goes back to the city they left leonora at but she’s gone obviously. so he starts asking around and eventually he does find someone who knows about her. win!! but that person knows the full story, therefore knows that leonora came from a plague infested city and should by all accounts he dead. not a win!!

skipping past the little details, rumors spread like wildfire that leonora is dead and that max is losing his mind hunting a ghost. he isn’t, of course, but the stories are getting to him. so he starts researching her village and finds out that it rests on a ley line that blurs the line between the material plane and the feywild. so he is rapidly losing confidence in his own mind. super fun right??

anyway eventually he charts a course and sails to her village and EVERYONE IS DEAD and now there’s a big monument in the town square paying respects to the people who died from the plague and guess who’s name is on there? yeah it’s leonora’s :)

so max is so very close to giving up hope but he doesn’t, maybe out of genuine hope that she’s out there, maybe out of blind desperation, but in the back of his mind he holds out hope that he’ll see her again.

and then flash forward to partway through the campaign, and he’s in a portside tavern when who should enter but the party? and who should be with the party but his elusive ghost??? :D

(jesus that was so much longer than i thought it would be. so sorry!!!!)
