Billy, having a nerf gun war with the kids, when he's backed into a corner by Max and El, both holding their guns up at him with sinister smirks.

"Any last words, blondie?"

With his hands held up in surrender, Billy sighs, "tell Steve I love him. And he better not remarry!"

Before the words are even fully out, the two girls are pelting him with nerf bullets, cackling at his dramatic display of falling over the couch, a hand clutching his chest.

okay cute and fun idea:

Imagine Steve being El's brother because Hopper adopts him too and Eddie being Max's stepbrother (his dad marries Max's mum instead of Billy's dad or something similar) and they hate each other for unknown reasons.

El at first doesn't like Max either (your brother is mean to mine? I am going to be mean to YOU) but she worms up to her and they become besties so Steve and Eddie are forced to see each other often.

You would think they start to get along? hell no! They nearly cause a scene every time they're in the same space for more than 10 minutes.

what other choice do Max and El have but to meddle in their brothers' affairs and get them to like each other, one way or another?

thinking about steve and max noticing that el never got to just. be a little girl? because max had to mature at a young age (neil & billy’s abuse, her moms drinking) and used being a tomboy as a defense mechanism / steve had to learn to take care of himself as a little kid because if he didn’t no one would.

so steve and max realizing this and doing everything in their power to help el experience the things she missed out on. they paint each other’s nails and read teen magazines and watch romcoms. steve takes them shopping and buys them both a bunch of clothes (el especially likes bright colors and patterns). they get nancy and robin to do el’s makeup (steve and max 1. don’t like stuff on their face and 2. know nothing about makeup) and she absolutely adores it, makes them teach her how to do it herself. while her hair grows out steve manages to find a couple of good quality wigs and helps her style them.

steve convinces hopper to let them paint el’s room pink and he agrees immediately after steve explains why. steve jonathan and nancy all love to spoil her and get her things so her room is filled with stuffed animals, posters, makeup, beauty products, etc.

steve lets el pick out whatever she wants (max too but she’s more chill about it, tries to hide how much she enjoys getting gifts and hanging around steve). as a gift for both girls, steve gets every wonder woman comic he can find (el cries and hugs him when he gives it to them, steve has probably never been happier).

and while max enjoys being able to be “girly” without feeling vulnerable, she still prefers her tomboy-ish energy (bi-gender she/he max!!!). so steve lends him hand-me-downs and buys him a new skateboard, tells him that he feels like that too some days, that it’s not gross or bad.

……idk how this turned into he/she max and steve bonding but here we are

"Did u just…bite me?” El asked, looking at her arm at the place where Max’s teeth were a moment ago.

"No. Yes? I mean" Max took the pillow and hugged it to herself, "It's an impulse, you know? I just love you so much that I want to bite you" She finished, a little embarrassed. Max didn’t want to do it, she didn’t think, she just... did it.

El was looking at her face without a word.

And then simply bend down and bit Max's arm in the same way, Max did to hers arm.

"El," Max giggled, taking her hand in hers. "You don't have to copy me"

"But I love you too" El stated, looking at her girlfriend’s face with so much pure love that Max wasn’t sure what to do with herself.

In the end, she realized that maybe she knows what to do with herself. And El. El’s lips.

So, without wasting time, Max cupped El’s cheek and closed the space between them, giving El a small kiss on the lips.
