Nico being very wary of Toto, she doesn’t want to tell him that Max is pregnant at first. Scared Toto would throw them out or that Toto might expect favors from Max and hurt the baby. Max and Nico can speak a mer-language and comfort each other in front of the pack without anyone knowing what they’re saying? Max is shy in anyway so he doesn’t really speak to pack much.
He wasn’t well liked in the mer-world. His dad didn’t want a submissive mer as a son and isolated him from everyone else. Nico still fell for Max even when the pack was very much against it, they were adamant that Max was not good enough for Nico. Nico is scared that Toto’s pack will be the same and mistreat Max. So she doesn’t want the pack to have another reason to not like Max. She’s desperately hoping that they’ll be able to go back in the water before Max shows too much. She dresses him in oversized clothing a lot and exaggerates being an overprotective and possessive alpha by not letting anyone else touch Max. It concerns some of the other omegas though and they’re worried that Nico is too possessive of Max. Max not liking new people and not really talking to them kind of adds to the omegas being wary of Nico.
Max also not having much experience on land? He struggles to walk and Nico fusses over him so much🥺
Nico would be so tense around Toto and always hug her Maxy close. She doesn't trust the big Alpha snd is so afraid hr will hurt her sweet maxy or expect anything in return for keeping the unborn litlte guppy safe.
It's tough for Max and nico to be out of the water but they have no choice now Max already shifted once. Nico keeps coming up eith excuses about why Max can't shift back and she knows Toto is suspecting something.
Nico and Max both belonged to the same huge school/pack of mer but left once they got mated because people disapproved of the most beautiful dominant mer picking such a "bad" submissive. Max was treated so badly and Nico is so afraid Toto and the pick will be the same to him
Nico dressing Max in oversized clothing, hoping to conceal his bump and not letting anyone near him, she is so possessive! The Omegas are worried about Max and maybr seb managed to take Max aside and make sure he is treated well! Max being so anxious cos he doesn't like to talk to people that much but when they realise they are worried for him, he is so in awe! He shyly explains to seb what he went through and that he is pregnant, but begs him not to tell Toto! But Seb understands Nico now!
And plss Nico having gone on land often but its a first for Max as his dad didn't allow him. He is so wobbly and confused about his legs but giggles a lot when Nico tickles his feet lol!

Review: Out of the Blue
Synopsis:
Crest is not excited to be on their Journey: the monthlong sojourn on land all teen merfolk must undergo. The rules are simple: Help a human within one moon cycle and return to Pacifica to become an Elder--or fail and remain stuck on land forever. Crest is eager to get their Journey over and done with: after all, humans are disgusting. They've polluted the planet so much that there's a floating island of trash that's literally the size of a country.
In Los Angeles with a human body and a new name, Crest meets Sean, a human lifeguard whose boyfriend has recently dumped him. Crest agrees to help Sean make his ex jealous and win him back. But as the two spend more time together and Crest's perspective on humans begins to change, they'll soon be torn between two worlds. And fake dating just might lead to real feelings...
This sophomore novel from Jason June dives into the many definitions of the world home and shows how love can help us find the truest versions of ourselves.
Plot:
Crest hates humans. They hate how they litter their precious Blue, how selfish humans are, social media (in general), and humanity's obsession with gender identification. Crest sees no values in humanity. Yet part of their journey as a mer is to spend one moon cycle on land and help a human. Taking on the human name of Ross, they find themselves waking up to being kissed by Sean. Not a kiss but mouth-to-mouth, as Sean is a lifeguard and thought Ross was dead.
Sean was a bit distracted at work. When his boyfriend of thirteen months, thirteen perfect months, breaks up with him to date Sean's former best friend, Miguel. Spending his day crying, and missing Dominic; Sean is alerted by screaming when the bright orange hair person washes up on the beach. That orange firecracker was Ross. Telling Ross about his breakup with Dominic, Ross agrees to help Sean get back with Dominic by showing Dominic what he's missing. Unfortunately, that is done through jealousy. Fake dating, Ross and Sean set out to accomplish their own goals: Ross with their journey, Sean getting back together with Dominic. When Ross accidentally gets splashed with water, showing their true nature to Sean, Sean agrees to keep their secret. Sean also promises to deliver Ross the beauty of humanity as they work to get Dominic back with Sean. When fake dating turns into developing feelings and a time limit for Ross's journey, the couple needs to decide if their relationship is worth saving. Or if they belong to someone that is more like them.
Thoughts:
Jason June writes this story about a non-binary mermaid (former) falling in love with high school gay boy Sean. With fast writing, June keeps the storyline brief as it is only one moon cycle long and switches from the point of view of Crest/Ross and Sean. The characters themselves are great. Ross does a fantastic job explaining what being non-binary means to them, relating to what it is like mer, and discovering humanity and its magic of love. Sean, our human character, is compassionate, always looks out for his friends, and tries his best to be an excellent person to and for Ross. They both had growing to do throughout the novel, which June allows them to do. Ross completing their journey was the heart of the story as we realize what Ross had actually helped Sean accomplish. What June lacked was the romance aspect of Ross and Sean, by giving them all gas no breaks. They were moving so fast, as their entire relationship was at max two and a half weeks long, and for Ross to experience that many firsts, it was a bit extreme. Plus, June really dove into the sex aspect of this novel with their writing, upping the age category. The plot itself reads to be early middle school, but all the talk about hardness in the crotch area makes it lower high school at best. It felt unneeded given that the plot was very middle grade targeted with the mythology around merpeople. Thus, as reader we did not need them talking or thinking about sex every chapter. Besides our couple, June did a great job giving us other characters to learn significant lessons. These include Dominic, Miguel, and Sean's bestie Kavya, giving us diversity in a cast that explores issues of cheating, depression, and friendship. June makes the novel colorful, giving us multiple bisexual representations, alongside Sean being gay and Ross non-binary. Where the novel was a bit iffy in the middle section, due to the speed of Sean and Ross's relationship, I quite like the ending June fit. It fit the story's overall theme and was realistic, giving out characters and the point of their life they were at in the novel. Overall, this is a fun novel to read if you are into LGBTQ+ romance, want some sexy scenes, and learn important lessons about being in love and what it means.

After a lovely Christmas Eve, Thea had slept like a baby with Meredith wrapped in her arms and curled up tightly. They fit together right, and it made sleep all that much easier when she had a chance to hold the blonde at night. They hadn't set an alarm for the morning, deciding instead that they'd simply wake when their bodies called for it, and so when her eyes opened on Christmas morning she wasn't entirely sure what time it was. Nor did she find that she much cared one way or the other, and she made no move to get up. Instead she focused on Meredith, smiling as she watched her chest rise and fall in the slow breathing of sleep. She was so beautiful, and it was hard to believe she'd been lucky enough for Meredith to come back into her life. Truly a Christmas miracle.

It would be a little while until the blonde woke up, at least five or so minutes. The day before had been a long one, long but enjoyable. Getting to spend the holiday with Thea was truly a dream come true and she had no regrets when it came to how she left things with her father. When she finally opened those pretty jade eyes, it was one at a time, squinting up at the brunette and scrunching her nose a little. ".. Mmmh- how long have you been watching me sleep?" She teased with a small smile, her voice raspy from slumber.

If there was anything cuter than Mer's sleeping face, it was the raspy voice and squint that she had when she woke. "Only a few minutes," Thea smiled. "But they were a very good five minutes. You look very peaceful when you're sleeping." Especially compared to the stress of the incident with Max and her father, the lines of worry that were becoming too frequent seemed to vanish as she had a restful slumber.

Meredith hummed in thoughtful response to those words. It took her a long moment for her brain to truly process but her eyes lit up slightly. "Oh my gosh... it's Christmas." Her lips tugged into a fuller smile. "Merry Christmas, Mistress." She hated that even on Christmas morning when she felt like running to the tree, she still required coffee to function properly.

Her head fell back just a little as she laughed, and Thea nodded. "It is Christmas, yes! For the whole day, I think, so don't feel like you need to get up anytime soon." The greeting made her smile brightly, though, and she leaned in to kiss those soft lips. "Merry Christmas, Mer. Did you sleep well?"

The blonde gave a little sleepy whine. "I want to get up now and go tearing through wrapping paper but my body says no and is begging me for at lest two if not three cups of coffee before I even consider moving." Meredith melted a little into the kiss and offered another hum. "I did. I think you thoroughly wore me out yesterday. Did you?"

When she couldn't be any cuter, Meredith let out a whine that brought an even bigger smile to Thea's face. "Then we'll just have to give into what your body's demanding and get you some coffee before we do much else." It was impossible not to look proud at the idea that she'd worn Mer out. "I did, actually, I sleep much better with a certain someone in my arms."

The blonde smirked a little. "So. Much. Coffee." She groaned some at the thought of moving. "And clothes. We need our pjs to open presents." She reasoned. She smiled again and gave a little shake to her head. "That look." She laughed. "See- you know you wore me out and you're perfectly pleased with yourself." Her smile softened some. "... I've always slept better in your arms, Thee." She confessed.

"As much as you want, we'll drink it by the pot until you feel like you can move enough to get to the presents. Or the clothes - which, by the way, I'm not totally convinced we need to open presents but I'll roll with it." Her proud smirk only got bigger. "So completely pleased with myself, you have no idea." The smirk softened, though, into something warm at Meredith's words. "Then I'm glad you're back to be in them again."
Meredith Fabray
A little moan sounded behind pink lips at the thought of that much coffee. "Maybe an iv of coffee. That might be necessary." Mer gave a little pout. "But we need our cute pjs to open our presents because cute photos." Her morning time reasoning skills were lacking. That smirk did things to her and she bit her inner cheek some. Those last words warmed her. "So am I. It's where I belong."

Thea laughed softly. "I don't think I'm set up to give you an IV here, but I can always call the doctor if you'd like and try to get him on the case." Meredith did make a good point, though, and she stretched as she considered it. "I suppose you're right. Pajamas now. Naked later." Mer's words didn't need any further comment, so Thea just pulled her closer for a moment.

A little laugh left those pink lips and those sleepy eyes seemed to brighten. "Might be wise to have him on standby." She teased. That jade gaze watched the older woman stretch and she bit her lower lip gently. "I think that sounds like the perfect plan." The blonde cuddled in close as Thea drew her in further.

Snorting, Thea shook her head. "I'll give him a call as soon as we're out of bed, definitely." She could only imagine how that call would go, and was glad she didn't actually have to make it. "I thought so. That way we can spend the least amount of time possible in clothes."
Meredith Fabray
Held back a laugh behind her fist, pressed to smiling lips. "Mmm hmm." She hummed. Her smile only grew as Thea spoke. "You really want me naked the majority of the day, don't you?"

Thea raised an eyebrow. "You say that like there's the slightest bit of surprise in you that I want you naked all day. Clearly I need to say it more often, because I don't want there to be any kind of confusion on this subject. I want you naked all day, every day that I can manage it."

Meredith let a small laugh push past pink lips. “No surprise at all.” She held up her hands in mock surrender. “Naked all day might pose a problem once classes are back in session but you are my Domme. So I’ll be naked whenever you want me naked, Mistress.”

Thea grinned. "I didn't think so." Mer's promise made her smile, because it meant the world that her submissive had that much faith in her. "Not to worry, pet. As much as I like you naked, being naked in class would just distract everyone. Plus, I don't like to share what's mine."

Meredith returned the smile. Her cheeks warmed at the last words and a brow rose a little. “No? Hmm I’ll have to remember that... I mean I did tell you I enjoy you being possessive so I really shouldn’t be surprised.” She smirked some then stole another kiss. “PJs and coffee and presents?”

"You've opened the floodgates now," Thea teased. "Because when I'm possessive I'm very, very possessive. So I do hope you keep on enjoying it as I really get going." She leaned into the kiss with a smile, nodding at the offered order of events. "PJs and coffee and presents," she agreed.
Meredith Fabray
"Keep them open then." She smirked once more. "I don't think I'll ever not enjoy it." She admitted. At Thea's agreement, she grinned. Slipping out of bed, she easily found her pajamas and slipped them on.

"You say that now, but we'll see," Thea smiled. She slid out of bed as well, stretching and yawning as she located where her pajamas had been thrown the night before. She might not have been quite the caffeine addict that Meredith was, but she was very much looking forward to a Christmas coffee.

"I'm not gonna be changing my mind, Mistress." Tying the drawstring closed and looping it into a bow, she waited patiently for Thea and when the woman was done, she grabbed her hand and laced their fingers to lead her out to get coffee.

"In that case, I'm glad to hear it." She squeezed Mer's fingers gently, revelling in the contact. It was the perfect Christmas present to wake up sharing a bed with her, and she planned to enjoy every moment of it. "I think I have some flavored coffee in the cupboard somewhere, if you wanted that. French vanilla or Irish cream or something."

“Orrrr....” Meredith grabbed a gift bag with her free hand as they passed the tree and smirked a little. “We can make mochas with the fancy hot chocolate I got us?” She grinned and pulled the whole kit she’d made out of the bag including the alcohol not that they needed it this early in the morning.

Thea's eyes lit up as she regarded the kit, nodding happily. "That is a much better idea. You're so far ahead of me this morning." A mocha sounded like the most perfect idea for them both to wake up a little bit.

“I just got over excited about spending Christmas with my favorite person so...”. She gave a little shrug, a sweet smile tugging at her lips. “... I may have gotten carried away with preparations.” She admitted. Mer went to go start the espresso and then worked on making the hot chocolate.

"Your favorite person, huh?" Thea's lips quirked upward in a smile. "I won't tell any of your family that you said that." She leaned against the counter to watch Meredith work, glad for the chance to share a quiet relaxing moment. "You always do, but I always end up benefiting when you're very prepared."

“Most favorite person.” She confirmed with a sweet smile. “I’m not sure they’d care all that much that they don’t take the top spot.” It was true. She felt a divide between her and her sisters, even more so now that most of them were on this campus. She stirred the chocolate into the steamed milk as the espresso dripped slowly. Mer grinned a little. “I enjoy being prepared.”

"Well, then, that's on them. Because being at the top of your list of favorite people is an amazing honor and they should feel the same way." Thea chuckled softly at Meredith's admission. "I know you do, pet. You've always been amazing at being prepared."

A little smirk tugged at pretty pink lips. "I don't see anyone bumping you out of that top spot any time soon." Meredith pulled out the mugs. First she added half a mug of hot chocolate, then she put in the espresso shot, then topped it off with the frothy part of the hot chocolate. When she was done, she handed a mug over to Thea. "It pays off."

"There better not be anyone who's going to topple me," Thea chuckled. "If there is I reserve the right to challenge them in single combat before a champion is decided." She accepted the mug once Meredith was finished working, inhaling the smells of coffee and chocolate and suddenly feeling more awake. "That it does. Thank you, this looks amazing."

Meredith laughed. “Deal. I mean, that only seems fair.” She took her own mug up into her hands. “Welcome, Mistress.” She took a long sip of her mocha with a satisfied hum.

Thea wasn't actually much of a fighter, but for the right cause she'd be willing to do her best. Sipping the mocha left a contented grin on her face, and she leaned in to steal a quick kiss.

Meredith smiled into the kiss and stole a second one before the other woman could get away, this one not as quick. She was careful about their mugs but now Thea tasted like a mocha and she couldn't help herself.

The second kiss was sweet, and tasted like chocolate, and Thea didn't mind it one bit. "Delicious. I mean, not that you aren't usually delicious, but you're even better with a little bit of chocolate on top."

Meredith smiled with a hum leaning in for more. She caught Thea’s bottom lip nipping and sucking it for a moment. When she finally pulled back, she smiled again and leaned against the counter to sip from her mug. “Chocolate and Coffee elevate everything.”

A sharp gasp escaped Thea, and she pulled back with an arched eyebrow. "Naughty thing, so early in the morning. Fortunately I liked that, so I don't think I'll have to teach you a lesson for it. And you're right - between the two, there's nothing they can't make better."

The blonde let a little laugh leave her lips. “You’re the one who wanted to stay naked. If we were naked that would have been way more naughty.” Another long sip was taken. “I’m excited for presents.”

Thea's eyebrow climbed higher. "That sounds an awful lot like being cheeky, pet," she warned playfully. "Even if you are definitely right." She sipped her own coffee. "So am I - I'm really really looking forward to seeing if you like yours."

Meredith batted her lashes. “We both know I’m a little cheeky before my coffee kicks in, Mistress.” She definitely didn’t deny it. Meredith was a morning person but she definitely needed her coffee to function and be a normal human. “May we go open them, Mistress? Please?”

Thea snorted softly. "Yes, we definitely know that." She wasn't about to make an issue of it, but she'd be keeping it in mind for later. "We absolutely may, Mer. Lead the way to the tree and we can get them sorted out to start opening."

The response got another little laugh out of the blonde before the mug was once again brought to her lips. She grinned when Thea agreed to present opening and kissed her cheek. “You’re the best.” She led the way into the other room and over to the tree, kneeling down to help sort through the gifts.

"I know," she laughed. Following her into the living room, she took a seat near the tree and smiled as their gifts were sorted out. "Looks like Santa must have thought we behaved this year, huh? That's a good haul of presents." They'd both been generous to each other, and Thea had no regrets - she wanted Mer to know she was loved in every way.

The blonde grinned, eyes bright in the morning sun. “We were so good! Santa knows it too, cause her knows everything.” Meredith had way too much fun getting and wrapping these gifts. First she handed over the wrapped box that held two lingerie sets.

Meredith's enthusiasm was just another reminder of what she found so endearing about her. "I guess he must, because I think we were pretty darn good this year." She picked out the smallest of her presents - a pair of earrings - and handed them over so they could each open one.

Mer took the present and carefully undid the wrapping. She was the type to preserve the wrapping as best she could which admittedly took her a little longer. When she opened them her eyes lit up. “These are beautiful, Mistress. Thank you! I love them.”

"You're so welcome, Mer. I thought they were perfect for you, and I can't wait to see you wear them for me." She took her turn, slitting the tape on her package open with one nail to reveal the lingerie sets. "Oh, Mer...they're spectacular. I think they're going to look great on me, but I'll need someone to be the judge."

“The next time we go out you’ll see me in them, Mistress.” She was excited watching Thea open her gift and beamed at her response. “I will totally be the judge.” Looking at the other two gifts, she picked up the necklace box with the silver set lapis lazuli pendant inside and handed it over.

"I was hoping you might say that." She gently laid the lingerie aside, knowing that she'd be in at least one set by the day's end. Accepting the small box, she passed Meredith her book with a smile. She knew that much of it would be covered in classes, but it felt more personal.

Her smile was brilliant and could have lit up the room as they exchanged gifts again. When she opened the book her smile warmed and like the studious girl she was she automatically started to flip through it. “This is amazing...”. She got a little lost in it for a minute or so, easily distracted this morning.

"I hope it's good," Thea smiled. "I didn't read through all of it, but it seemed like a pretty good book." She opened her own slowly, peeking into the box and smiling hugely. "Mer...it's beautiful. Could you help me put it on, please?" Turning, she swept her dark hair away from her neck and handed Meredith the necklace.

“ It definitely looks good. I can’t wait to take all the notes.” She didn’t set it aside until Thea went about opening the necklace. Mer grinned and gave a hum, moving behind her to help out with the latch. She placed a kiss on the back of her neck. “I’m glad you like it, Mistress.” She set the wrapped hand knit sweater into Thea’s lap and bit gently into her lower lip.

Thea smiled. "And I can't wait to read all of the notes that you take." The kiss on her neck made her shiver, and she nodded. "I love it so much, Mer. Honestly, it's beautiful and I'm going to wear it as often as I can." She passed over the collage of takeout menus with a nervous expression, waiting for it to be unwrapped and hoping that Mer would a.) get what it was and b) like it.

Mer carefully opened the final gift and as she looked at it and took in what it was, her eyes lit up and her lips tugged into a radiant smile. “Oh my god! This is every single take out menu we have ever ordered from? Oh my god!” She squeaked and pointed. “Even the one from the vacations we took on breaks??” The blonde leaned over the collage and stole a kiss. “This.” Kiss. “Is.” Kiss. “Perfect.” Kiss. “Thank you so much. I love it, Thee, I really do.”

Watching with bated breath, Thea felt relief flood her as recognition flashed across Meredith's face. Every kiss made her feel infinitely better about the gift, and she nodded happily. "Every single one. From the time we were first roommates until the week before I had it made - and I only stopped because I needed time to get that put together. You are so, so welcome, and I'm glad that you like it." She opened her own and held it up with awe in her eyes. It was clearly handmade, with no tags, and the gold and black pattern was intricate and gorgeous. "Mer..." she offered softly. "You knit me a sweater. It's beautiful, pet, thank you so much." It was her turn to steal a few kisses and pull the submissive into her arms.

It made her feel all sorts of ways to know that Thea had put so much thought and effort into her gift in the way that she had in knitting the sweater. She wasn’t sure what sort of reaction the sweater would get but she was so happy when it got a good one. When she was pulled into those arms, she settled into the woman’s lap and let herself get lost in the kisses for a moment or so. “I did the same pattern as that scarf I made you forever ago. It was a lot harder but it came out really nice I think... and you’ll look beautiful in it... cause you look beautiful in everything.”

Thea blushed, just a little. "You're very sweet to me, Mer. Much too sweet. I love it. And I'm going to have to get that scarf out so that I can wear the whole set - I can't believe I didn't recognize the pattern right away. It's wonderful." It was a great Christmas, and she couldn't have been any happier in that moment. "Thank you for everything. And for being here."

Mer shook her head, smiled and kissed her cheek gently. “I’m not. You deserve sweetness. And honestly I made the scarf forever ago, I’m surprised you even have it since you’ve never really left Florida.” She brushed her nose with Thea’s, resting their foreheads together. “Thank you for everything. I honestly wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

Meredith Fabray
Meredith hadn’t slept in well over 24 hours. She’d spent the majority of that time at the hospital with her sisters making sure everyone was taken care of, making sure she stayed completely informed, all while fielding texts and phone calls from their father. Everyone was on edge about Russell coming and her own anxiety was at an all time high. Any time she thought about Thea first it would calm her down and then she’d panic because she knew what her father had done to her sisters in the past over homosexual behavior. She kept her head down, she did what he told her to, took a few verbal beatings— her main concern was Max. When the day was over she packed a bag, got into Thea’s car and zoned out until they made it into the place that was truly beginning to feel like home. Mer stood there in the middle of the living room just gripping her bag, pale as if she’d seen a ghost. “Am I under orders for Christmas Eve and Christmas?” It was random and the most she’d said in the past 15 minutes.

Thea didn't hide the fact that she was worried about Meredith. She'd never met Russell Fabray, fortunately for him, but she knew his type - and his type being near Mer was not a nice thought. When they finally made it home, though, Thea was determined to make what must have been a horrible day at least as good as she could make it. "Yes, good girl. You're under orders for Christmas." There must have been a reason that she asked, and Thea wanted to be sure she was safe from being anywhere else over the holidays. "Come in and put your bag in the bedroom please, okay?"

At the response, Meredith visibly relaxed a little. “Kay.” She said softly. Hazel eyes glanced up and she gave a nod before making her way into the bedroom. The submissive set the bag down in the bedroom where she normally would and turned to find Thea. Her arms went to cross protectively beneath her chest, as if hugging herself and she released a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. She felt responsible for her sister’s crash even though it wasn’t her fault, she’d heard from Russell all day that she should have done more, she shouldn’t have let Max get this bad, how could she have let this happen? She’d heard so much of that in one day that she was starting to believe it. “Mistress.” She just needed to say the word and know who the title belonged to, who she belonged to... even if they weren’t at that point yet it’s what she knew in her heart.

Between their time as roommates and the time since their reconnection, Thea liked to believe that she could read the submissive as well or better than anyone else in the world. Which was why she'd followed her into the bedroom, waiting at the door for her to turn around. "Come here, pet." The nickname hit her just the way it needed to. She didn’t need to be told twice, her feet carried her over and into Thea’s waiting arms. When they closed around her, she buried her face in the other woman’s neck and at being called a good girl, she muffled a sob, allowing herself to handover control to the one person she trusted more than herself.

Thea immediately swept Mer into her arms, holding her tightly against her as she began to cry. "It's alright, pet. It's alright, let it all out now. I've got you." If she wanted to talk, that part would come later. For the moment her concern was making sure that Meredith had a safe place to cry. Between what had happened to her sister and the fact that her day with her father had surely been hell, the tears needed to come before anything else. "That's good. You're such a good girl for me," she murmured. "Let everything out on me, you don't have to hold back or hide. Not today, or ever."

Those arms felt perfectly safe around her and she fell apart in them. Thea was letting her cry and for the first time in a long time, she did. She knew that the older woman wasn’t going anywhere. When she finally found her breath again and the tears subsided slightly, she clung to her and sniffled a little. “...He said- how could you let this happen?”

Thea waited with infinite patience through the storm. This was a badly needed first step, and if Mer needed to cry the whole night then Thea would hold her the night through, without any question or doubt. When she did finally speak, Thea felt her jaw clench so tightly that she had to force it to release. "I know that his voice is in your head. But I want you to hear mine instead. This is not on you. You're not your adult sister's keeper, and this isn't your fault. Max made a terrible decision, one that could have hurt or killed a lot of people, but you're not responsible for that."

Meredith listened to everything that Thea had to say and she let it sink in. “I know... I hear yours... and-and I know all that, I do... he just kept repeating it and I-“ she released a shaky breath. “It’s hard. To not blame myself for not taking better care of her. When he just kept saying those things. I just want your voice in my head. I don’t want to listen to him. I don’t. And- and he said he expects me home for Christmas and I can’t-“ she shook her head. “I have orders. I have to tell him I have orders.”

"I know it is, Mer. I know. That voice has been in your head for way too long, and it's not so simple as me saying something isn't so. But we'll work at it. We'll replace that voice in time, and you won't have to hear it again." Her jaw clenched again, hard enough to send pain shooting up the side of her face. "He can expect you all he wants, you're under orders. And I do not release you from them, no matter what he might say. Simple as that."

He would always have some sort of control as long as she wasn’t claimed and she hated that. She nodded. “Together. We’ll work on it. It’ll go away.” She repeated. Her body relaxed some in those arms as Thea told her she was not released from her orders. “I’ll tell him. I don’t break orders. And I have orders.”

Mer chewed at her lower lip as she considered food. “Can we just.... order Chinese or Thai or sushi? Please, Mistress?” It wasn’t that she wasn’t hungry... she just forgot to take care of herself when he was in her head.

Thea smiled proudly. "We absolutely can. Tell you what - why don't you go have a quick shower and get this day off of you, and change into some pjs when you're done. I'll order us some food, and you can come and kneel beside the couch for me?" Part of taking care of the submissive's mental health would involve letting her submit, if she was ready for that.

She swallowed hard. “I dunno if I wanna let go of you.” The submissive admitted. After a moment of consideration she gave a small nod. “...I can do that, Mistress.” Being away from her for that long right now seemed difficult but she’d do it.

If she truly couldn't, Meredith would be allowed to stay. But when she chose to be brave it made Thea all the prouder. "Good girl. I don't want to let go of you either, but I think a shower's going to feel very good. And if you start to hear his voice in your head, you think of me. And hear me telling you how good you are."

Giving a small nod of agreement, she kissed the woman’s cheek and went to do as she was told. The shower was necessary and every few minutes she found herself forcing his voice out of her head and replacing it with Thea’s. Once she was out of the shower, in her PJs with her hair brushed, she found her way out into the living room and went to take her place kneeling by the couch.

Meredith made her so proud. Following orders, especially after such an impossibly hard day, was a challenge that many people might not have been up for. Had she been in a submissive position on a day like Mer had gone through Thea wasn't sure if she could have been as good. For a small reward she ordered Chinese and Thai, knowing the leftovers would make good snacks and could always be taken back to the hospital if necessary. With that done she relaxed on the couch until Meredith joined her. "Very good, pet. Very good. Would you like to talk right now, or would you like to just kneel quietly for me until the food arrives?"

Meredith let her gaze wander up to find Thea. “Talk.” She wasn’t sure what there was to say right now but if they needed to talk then she wanted to do that. Sitting in silence meant fighting his voice and she wasn’t sure she was strong enough to do that tight now.

A small smile quirked at her lips as she thought about their show and she gave a nod. “I think my favorite was the musical episode in season seven. Callie’s voice kind of blew my mind.” Her brow scrunched a moment and she shook her head. “And that was a car crash.” That sobered her a little. “Uhm... I also ... I also just really loved watching Callie and Arizona together before their relationship went to shit. I love in the newer episodes watching the sister relationship between Grey and Amelia and Maggie. I kind of live for the scenes when they’re all just in the kitchen.”

The point of getting Meredith to tell her about her favorite parts wasn't really to revisit them for herself, but to give her an outlet to talk about something other than her day. The more she could do that the more she could hopefully get it out of her head. She nearly spoke up when Mer mentioned a crash, but she managed to keep going all on her own. "Ah yeah, the musical. How to Save a Life was probably the best thing on that, didn't you think?"

Mer’s eyes widened. “I mean... it was good. All the songs were but like... the Story was hands down the best song.” She smirked a little bit it faded into a smile. Mer went on for a little bit about why the song was clearly superior and found herself rambling and then blushing because she caught herself rambling. “Are we gonna do another binge soon?” but seriously go listen to that song lmao

"Ooh, that was good," Thea agreed. She clearly needed a refresher. Her heart felt a little bit lighter when Mer got caught up in talking about the song and seemed to momentarily forget that anything else existed - just like she'd hoped for. "We could watch some tonight while we eat, if you wanted. But I think we should do a longer binge over Christmas." Lol will do!

Gave a nod. “That sounds good to me.” The blonde found herself leaning into Thea’s touch as her hair was played with. “I’m excited for food.” She admitted. She loved that she didn’t need to tell Thea what she wanted to eat because the woman already knew her taste in literally every cuisine.

You appreciate the same kind of food I do, and I get to fix all those poor taste buds that got ruined while you were gone." She'd probably make that joke for a long time, but it was always affectionate. It made her glad, even if it had taken his cheating, to know that Mer had been freed from a claim that didn't work for her.

“It’s always been my favorite thing to do.” She confessed. “You’re definitely an expert in nurturing taste buds.” A small laugh left her. She cleared her throat gently. “Every time I started to get panicky or upset today I thought about you. But then I’d panic more because of who he is and what he’s done and what he would do if he knew that I see myself as yours. A woman.”

A smile brightened Thea's features. "That makes me happy to hear. And I'm so glad, because those are some great taste buds and they need to be brought back to life." The switch to a more serious topic didn't phase her - it would likely happen a few times at least, as Mer dealt with everything. "I'm glad to be the one you thought of, pet. I really am. But I want you to know that if the day ever comes that he has to know that then there's nothing he can do. Because if you're mine then he should know that no one hurts what's mine." Thea still had enough money to have him buried in a desert somewhere that he'd never be found, with plenty left over to live the rest of their lives.

She let the words settle in her for a long moment before speaking up again. “He’s going to pummel me with questions when I tell him I’m under orders for the holiday. Who. Why. Where. What will I be doing that’s more important than spending the holiday with my father when I no longer have a claim to blame it on. Henry and I always spent the Holidays with his brother and Rose. What do I tell him?”

Thea considered that in silence for a moment, her fingers still working in Meredith's hair. "You tell him that you're under orders. If he wants to know who I am you can tell him that the Switch in question is a member of a prominent English family. And that said Switch hasn't told you yet what your plans are for Christmas, only that you're expected to be there and you'll find out when you're told." Thea sighed. "I'd never treat you like that, of course, but I have a feeling that it might be the sort of thing to get him to shut up."

Her father was busy dealing with Max right now she’d have to wait but if she waited to long she riled him buying tickets. “Can we uhm... before the end of the weekend just call him and get it over with? Please? I would rather do it here. With you.”

Even a little laugh was a big accomplishment for the night, and Thea couldn't help but feel proud. "You're welcome, gorgeous girl. I wouldn't want you to have that conversation without me, because I want you to know in your bones that you're safe and taken care of the whole time. That he doesn't get to intimidate you."

Her lips tugged into a warm, soft smile as those jade eyes gazed up. “I always feel safe with you.” That was the honest truth. She was happy that Thea had her phone right now or she’d be looking at it constantly, this way it was literally out of her hands.

"That makes me incredibly happy to hear, Mer. More than I could ever say." The words were punctuated with a knock at the door. "Let me go grab that. Would you like to get some plates and bowls out, pet? I'll be right there with the food." Collecting it from the driver was a quick process that was ended with a large tip, and she carried the two bags back into the kitchen.

“Yes, Mistress.” Getting up from her spot beside the couch, she went to get out everything they would need for the food. Seeing the two bags her eyes lit up. She squealed with a grin and once the bags were set down, her arms wrapped about Thea’s neck. “You got both?” She swooned. “You must really wanna keep me around,” she teased.

Thea set the heavy bags down on the counter, where they could be unpacked, only to find that she'd suddenly grown a very pleasant Mer-shaped attachment. "You know, I think I just might," she chuckled. "You need food, and you need leftovers to make sure that you keep good care of yourself. Besides, I was craving egg rolls and tom yum soup, and I couldn't get them both from the same place!"

Mer grinned and placed a kiss on the side of Thea’s mouth. “Thank you. For taking care of me.” She brushed her nose with the brunette’s a little before breaking away. “What would you like to drink? And what all did you order?”

The kiss to her temple had a warmth blanketing her body. “Yes, Mistress.” She filled up her plate and bowl with a little bit of everything, definitely adding some of that sauce. By the time she dug into the food she savored it but it all disappeared easily. After a long sip of wine she gave a small hum. “I’m so full.”

As they sat together at the table, sharing wine and company and conversation, the food disappeared so quickly that it may never have been there at all. Thea hadn't been quite clear on the schedule, but she simply rolled with it. Truthfully the fewer times that Mer had to be near her father, the happier it was going to make Thea in return. "That's good - that she's on her way, I mean." As Meredith worked at the dishes she closed up all of the containers and found a place for them in the fridge. "You're such a good girl."

I just hate that she’s with him until she gets there and I can’t be there for her.” She was afraid of what her father might do. "Because it's as much a fact as the sky being blue or the sun rising. You never have to be asked for anything, you just anticipate and know exactly what I need. You look after me, you follow orders to the letter...you are perfect."
