the basics:

aaron hotchner: father, single dad, can be strict but will always listen to and be there for his kids, doesn't smile very often but has the BEST, most contagious laugh

david rossi: cool, fun uncle, gave the kids their first sip of alcohol (only when they're 21 though), the more 'chill adult', a playboy, but finally married their aunt krystall who is their favorite

derek morgan-hotchner: oldest child & son, very protective of his siblings, a little bit of a playboy but does settle down, smart without trying

emily prentiss-hotchner: nicknames are em and ems, second oldest, oldest daughter, very smart (smarter than her little brother spencer sometimes) and the most emotionally intelligent of the siblings though this surprises most people because she's very rebellious and very private - opens up to people but with time

jennifer jareau-hotchner : nicknames are JJ and jaje, middle child, quiet and responsible, very popular athlete, surprisingly kind of a badass when her family or friends (especially her little brother and sister) are hurt

spencer reid-hotchner: nickname is spence, youngest son, penelope's twin, very smart with an IQ of 187 and very sensitive, sometimes gets bullied but always protected by older brother derek, a bit nerdy like his twin

penelope garcia-hotchner: nickname are pen, penny and garcie, youngest child and daughter, spencer's twin, a little bit loud and boisterous at times but also very sensitive and kind, great at computers and majored in comp-sci in college

tara lewis, matt simmons, luke alvez: triplets, but not related to the hotchners, though they have been family friends with them for years and are treated as family

luke: very popular, football player and jock but not a playboy at all, a little quiet and secretly a nerd, LOVES musicals and baking

tara: very smart, loves psychology and crime-thrillers, very funny and and a bit of a smart-alec, loves teasing her little brother luke

matt: nickname is matty, very mature, very kind and very responsible, also a football player with his brother, often breaks up the arguments between tara and luke when one or the other takes it too far

other details of the headcanon

aaron is currently dating beth who will hopefully be the family's step-mom soon (aaron has been planning to propose for a long time and the kids keep teasing their dad that it'll never happen)

though derek is a playboy all throughout high school, he eventually settles down with a smart girl on the pre-med track in college named savannah

derek often gets into fights with his dad, especially when he was younger, but that's happens less as he gets older and when he finds comfort in savannah

JJ's been dating her high-school sweetheart, Will, since freshman year, they've already started planning how many kids they want and their names (as it stands: 2 boys and a girl, henry, michael and maggie)

matt has also been dating kristy forever, since high-school and they both want a big family

emily, jj and tara are an unlikely trio of best friends; emily has only ever told the other two her biggest fear

derek, matt and luke are also best friends and often include spencer in their hang-outs

penelope and luke were very 'will they, won't they' for a long time because penelope often resisted luke's charm because she was afraid of getting hurt, but eventally start dating and are everyone's favorite couple

penelope dated a bunch of assholes before luke (kevin, shane, tyler) and is part of the reason why she was afraid to date luke -- luke is aware of this and does her best to treat her like a queen

spencer just started dating max but can see himself marrying this girl; max has helped him come out of his shell

spencer is the older twin by 5 minutes and often holds this over penelope's head

matt is the oldest triplet, then tara and then luke (who is the baby and treated as such by his siblings)

spencer and penelope are built-in best friends and watch doctor-who, marvel and star-trek marathons together -- max and luke join these when each couple starts dating

tara, luke and matt often see aaron/dave as parental figures and lean on them for support

they are all very protective of each other, but everyone is the most protective of penelope

tara and penelope call luke 'lukey' as a nickname to bug him, but he secretly loves it

the eight kids (penelope, luke, matt, tara, emily, jj, spencer, derek) don't have that much of an age gap between them so they are all very close, hang-out a lot and very much fit the found-family trope

dave and aaron take the kids (including matt, tara and luke) on a family trip every year -- 2024 is going to be a beach trip

Elle Greenaway - they would've been so cute together, she definitely would've been soft only for him, definitely convinced they had something going on that we didn't get to see

Lila Archer - I think this one is pretty obvious

Austin the bartender - they would've been so cute I think!! maybe not as a super long term thing but I think they would've been good together

Ethan - they so were in love when they were best friends, Spencer is so bisexual and the way they looked at each other in that episode!! they were definitely together or had some kind of friends with benefits situation

People I would NOT pair Spencer Reid with are -

JJ - they're literally like brother and sister so definitely not, not even in the earlier seasons tbh, I just didn't see it. I also think their personalities and ways of being in a relationship would clash, they already have little tifs and arguments as friends that I just can't see working as a relationship

Maeve - I felt neutral about her at first but after seeing @imagining-in-the-margins analysis of her I completely agree, I don't think she was a great person & definitely not good for Reid

Max - I know we didn't see much of her but what we did see I thought was so boring and they have ZERO chemistry, it didn't make sense. They should've brought back Austin or Lila to be his love interest if they were going to do something like that. Or even bring back Ethan, I would've loved to have seen him as Spencers love interest

from the penultimate chapter of I Met You At the End of the World

Luke kissed his still half-asleep girlfriend on the head as he left that morning. “Bye, Baby, I’m heading out.”

“Where’re you going?” Penelope mumbled sleepily.

“It’s Wednesday, I’m driving Spence in, remember?”

“Right, your bro time. Have fun. See you at work. I love you.”

“I love you too,” he replied with a chuckle. Reid had really needed a friend since the re-emergence of Cat Adams a few months before, and since Luke had been there on the date from hell supervising, he offered to grab coffee with him at least once a week and drive him in. The two had always been friends, but they’d gotten much closer as of late. In recent weeks, their conversations had shifted further away from Cat, and more towards Spencer’s thriving relationship with Max. Luke was the only one the young genius was really confiding in about his new relationship, and Luke was both honored and insanely happy for his friend. He’d had enough hardships. He needed something truly good in his life, and Max seemed to be exactly that.

Luke turned to Reid and smiled as they entered the bullpen. “Hard to believe we’re the first ones here this morning.”

“Yeah, it’s ’cause you’re not,” Penelope said, emerging from a side entrance, a mug of tea already in her hands. 

“Is there a case?” Reid asked her.

She looked around the room, seeming pleased. “Thankfully, no. All is quiet on the serial killer front.”

Luke let out an exaggertated happy sigh, but then turned to Penelope. “Wait a second, how did you beatus here? When I left this morning you were still in bed.”

She scoffed affectionately. “Please, did you really think I’d let you win?”

“I didn’t realize it was a race.”

“When we don’t come in together, it always is.”

“Noted.”

“I say this with so much love,” Reid cut in, “but you two are disgusting.”

Luke turned to him with raised brows. “That is rich coming from someone who waxed poetics about Max for an hour this morning.”

Reid flushed bright red, but Penelope’s face lit up, and she bounced a bit, clapping with glee. “How is the lovely Max?”

“She’s good,” Reid replied, cheeks still tinged pink.

Penelope’s bright red lips dropped to a pout. “That’s it? That’s all I get? She’s good?” She turned to Luke. “You are telling me everything later.”

“Oh no I am not.”

Her mouth opened in shock. “What?”

“He asked us to keep our conversations confidential, and I promised I would, so I’m going to,” Luke explained.

Penelope looked him up and down appreciatively. “Ooh, a man of his word. Hot.”

“I stand by the fact that you two are disgusting.”

When I was first starting out with writing I was told to be wary of putting my characters through too much trauma, danger, etc. because it's not believable. It's not realistic to see one character go through various types of trauma over and over again. And I took that advice real seriously for a while...

Until I saw Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds because that bitch be going through it regularly. Like, I know the whole team has their fair share of hell, but I have never seen a character more accurately fit the Damsel-in-Distress archetype so perfectly. Damn.

Moving on s4 ep 5, catching out with the unsub using trains to move around

The first jordan todd episode. I dont like jordan. She adds nothing to the team, she was annoying, and frankly didn't last long enough to be memorable anyway

But this intro scene in the coffee shop with morgan is pretty good lol. Morgan freaking out because she knows his name looool

Also i think the implication that reid has only been with one girl (lila) is cute. I'm not sure if the implication is he has only kissed one girl (lila) or that he's been further with her, or someone else. But either way i think the inexperience fits the character. I know we like slut phase reid, but i don't see it. And if it does happen, its when he's much older not at this point in the show

What are yalls headcanons? Does he sleep with lila? Is there someone before lila? I think ethan is his first kiss, but they're young and and reid is kinda a germaphobe and is freaked out by touch so it doesnt go further, then lila is his first kiss with a woman and it doesnt go further. Maybe he goes on a date with austin the bartender girl, probably kisses her, it doesn't go further. I hope he goes on a date with either dr einstein or the russian language girl, but i think nothing comes of either of those. Of course there's maeve and max

Hi! Random question. How do you think Max would react to Spencer getting a haircut?

Hello anon!! I love these hypotheticals! So Season 15 Spencer is definitely one of the "out of control fluffy hair" seasons - when you say haircut I'm picturing like a return to something like his boyband era or season 7/9 hair lol, so I think Max would be totally shocked at first; it's simply so like him to not mention anything beforehand then just turn up at her door looking like a whole new man

From the few glimpses we got of Max I also think she'd have some sort of witty remark at first ("Oh, sorry, I was expecting my boyfriend," or "Please tell me you didn't get gum stuck in your hair"), which naturally would send Spencer panicking before she gently reassured him that no, no, she loves it and it looks great, and would he mind terribly bending down so she can run her hands through it? And if that turns into a make-out session on the couch so she can feel the difference when she tries to tug on it, well, neither one of them would be too mad about it.

Stupid idiot motherfucking Cat Adams.

A couple times I was not far from gagging ew but I actually don't want to talk about Cat rn. She wasn't even pissing me off that bad she was just pathetic. Fuck her. I wanna talk about <3 Max Brenner <3 who played Cat like a fiddle and didn't even flinch. Just straight fibbing about killing her boyfriend, and I was gonna support that either way but whatever. She got Reid believing that too. And then Max and Reid kissed! That was a nice palate cleanser for all the nastiness going on in this episode. I like them. I'm actually really happy about this episode I was not expecting that.

Imagine if Morgan never left the BAU

They still bring Luke on, after all they could use someone with a Fugitive Taskforce background to help catch escaped serial killers (if they can do it for Stephen, they can do it for Luke)

Garcia is still very adamant to not like him because he's temporary, and she won't get attached to someone temporary. She's learned that painful lesson too many times

Even when he officially joins the team, she's very wary of him, because "What if he's just joining because it's easier? He could still leave once we catch all the serial killers."

Luke and Morgan get along spectacularly, so "Do you think you could be a little friendlier to Alvez" still happens

Once he got a family, Morgan told Hotch he wouldn't ever step up for him again, because we all saw what being a Unit Chief with a family did to Hotch. So, when Hotch goes into WitSec, Emily is still brought on as the new Unit Chief

Morgan is beyond psyched for her, and loves getting to work with her again

Morgan is the very first person to pick up on Garcia's crush on Luke, and he picks up on it FAST

"There's nothing wrong with having feelings, babygirl."

"Yes, there is, because I'd only end up fooling myself into believing he could possibly return them when he wouldn't."

"Well if he doesn't see how amazing you are, then that's on him and he doesn't deserve you in the first place."

But then the flirting. Good lord the flirting. He wants to bang his head on a table at how oblivious the pair of them are

When Reid gets arrested, it is all the team can do to keep Morgan from ACTUALLY committing murder and ending up in prison himself

At Rossi's wedding, he sees Luke and Penelope dancing together and he just about loses his damn mind

"They're slow dancing together, Savannah. Slow dancing."

"I know, baby, I can see."

"Friends don't slow dance at their coworker's wedding."

"That's not exactly true. Remember our wedding?"

"Well not like that."

When he finds out about Reid and Max, he is ecstatic

He thinks she is absolutely perfect for him, and is so happy that his Pretty Boy is getting his happy ending

He's also very happy for Prentiss and Mendoza

Although he secretly ships Temily but won't tell anyone

He is one of Penelope's biggest supporters when she considers leaving, because he wants her to be happy and he knows that would suit her so much more than this

It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he ships Garvez with his entire soul and knows that it'll be easier for them to get over themselves and get together if they're no longer together

At her going away party, he not-so-subtly suggests to Luke that he make his move

He watches from a distance with satisfaction as Luke pulls Penelope away to talk, and at the elated smiles on their faces after they talk

After their first case without Penelope, the team, as usual, suggests going out for drinks

Morgan says no, he wants to get home to his wife

Luke also says no, he "has other plans"

They get into the elevator together

"So. You have other plans?"

"Yes."

"Give Penelope my love."

"Shut up."

"Byeee, loverboy"

"Shut up, Morgan!"
