Cody wondered if, in another life, he would've been a party planner. Maybe it was the excitement of getting everything organized for your birthday party, or how all the perfectly coordinated decorations made him strangely giddy. The joy he got from visiting the local party supply store was a strange but not unwelcome new sensation that made him laugh all the same. No matter what his alternate universe self could be, where he was now was making him happy.

Ever since Cody had fallen in love with you, he had wanted to take care of you. Not in an infantilizing way, but a spoiling-you-with-the-best-stuff kind of way. It was true that he wrestled because he loved the sport and wanted to build his reputation and honor his family, but the money he earned gave him the chance to give you the life he knew you deserved. That was evident in the way that he just burst with happiness when you both bought your first house together and said "I do."

So giving you quite literally the most extra birthday celebration possible was kind of a no-brainer. You were onto him, mostly because he was an awful liar and it was impossible for him to hide his smile around you. But you also weren't aware of the true extent of the situation, and he wanted to keep it that way until the last minute.

"What are you up to..?" You had asked suspiciously with a big grin as Cody shuffled you out of the house. He had made sure your friends, who were all in on the surprise party, were able to keep you occupied for a few hours while everything got set up. Cody chuckled sweetly, leaning forward to kiss you before he opened the front door with a gentlemanly air.

"Me? Up to something? Babe, I would never! I'm an upstanding man, I'll have you know." He feigned incredulousness, placing his hand to his chest for added effect. "I just thought it'd be fun for you to hang out with your friends a bit on your birthday! Plus, I heard there may or may not be a bottomless brunch in your immediate future if you go with them..." He said with a sing-song lilt, gently urging you forward to where your best friend and a few others stood waiting. Cody still held your hand, though, up until the last minute.

"Alright, alright, you had me at bottomless brunch. Damn you!" You laughed, kissing him on the cheek with a big grin. "See you later, then?"

"Before you know it!" And with that, it was time for Cody to get to work.

Everything had already been planned for months, and now it was just a matter of getting everything set up. Oh, and making sure that all the guests made it on time plus the caterers and the-- Okay, he needed to breathe. Everything was gonna be fine! Cody was nothing if not a stickler for detail, and everything was about as planned as it could possibly be. So he took a minute to gather himself before heading to the bedroom to change. Of course he was gonna wear something snazzy for your special day!

Cody spent the rest of the next couple crucial hours decorating. While he could've easily hired someone to do all this without him even needing to lift a finger, he thought it was more important that he do it himself to show how much you mean to him. That meant he busied himself putting up streamers, blowing up what felt like a 1000 balloons, setting up tables, you name it. By the time all the setting up was said and done, your house and backyard was bursting with your favorite color.

An hour before you were due to return home, all of your friends and loved ones began to pour into your home. Everyone you could possibly want at your birthday party was here, eager to see you and your husband! They marveled at the impressive spread of decorations and food (which was a generous smattering of all of your favorites) in your honor, including the very cute photo of you that Cody had gotten printed as a centerpiece for the whole celebration.

It was only a moment longer before you returned home to find your backyard lit up and the sounds of a roaring crowd calling you inside. Maybe you had expected just a small get together with your closest friends and family, or maybe even just an intimate dinner with your husband. But an entire party?! Yeah, he was so extra~

Cody was the first to welcome you back, of course, practically sprinting over to you to pick you up and swing you around in his arms. Pharaoh hung close to your feet and barked excitedly, clearly enjoying all the attention he was getting from the guests too.

"Welcome home, y/n! Whaddya think?" He asked, clearly hoping with every ounce of his being that you were happy. "You know me, I get a little carried away when it comes to you. You mean the world to me, and I wanted to show you." The cheerful crowd of your favorite people behind him was painted beautifully like a dreamy backdrop.

Without hesitation, you answered. "I love it, and I love you. Though I think you might spoil me a little too much," you chuckled, pulling him in closer with a gentle kiss (with him looking as good as he did, how could you resist?!) "How am I supposed to keep my ego in check when my husband plasters up a giant photo of me at my surprise birthday party?!"

"Who said you should keep it in check? I don't see anything wrong with knowing how amazing you are," he beamed. Reaching forward he grabbed your hand and tugged you further into the party, never straying too far from you. "Besides, just wait 'till you see the pile of presents."

I've wanted to make some kind of reader appreciation gift for a while but just never had the time to work on it. Now that my schedule has calmed down for a minute, I thought I could make this post. So consider this my invitation to all of my readers (yes all of you, even you lurkers!) to join in helping me design a fantasy custom content set. Details below:

The What: I will be making a collection of fantasy cc as a reader appreciation gift, hopefully with your input. This will likely be a small collection (around 10 or so pieces), which may or may not be cohesive, but we'll see lmao. The gifts will be for both Sims 4 and Sims 3 so don't let game iteration hold you back if you'd like to participate!

The How: Send me suggestions/requests for cc objects you'd like to see made. The only stipulation is that it should be fantasy themed, but it's a broad category and any sort of fantasy, magic or occult, (historical is fine too if it fits within the umbrella) objects are welcomed. You can either send me pictures, pins, or simply shoot me an idea if you have one via ask, submission, DM, or in comments (whatever you're most comfortable with). (Update: Pinterest board started here, I'll add to it as more ideas come in!). I may not take every suggestion (or be able to make everything) but I will do my best to include everything I can so please do not be shy to send me multiple references. There is no limit to how many ideas you can suggest.

The When: I plan to release the gift collection most likely around end of January or sometime in February. So feel free to continue to send me your suggestions through the next couple months. The set will be released here to my readers first before going up on KHD at a later date.

Misc. Details: When suggesting objects, please consider the complexity of the request. For those not following me on KHD you can see my portfolio here. I only make objects for public release, so that means no CAS and no build mode. My primary skillset is based around hard surface modeling, so there's a lot I can do, but please avoid suggesting anything that is heavily ornate; This includes incredibly detailed pieces, (think baroque, Victorian/Gothic), or any kind of sculpture including humanoid or animal shapes (I just can't do this kind of organic sculpting).

Wednesday WIP

It's hump day people! So that means it's time to find out what everyone is working on! 😎 As for your girl Nerdie, I have a few things in the works: two Dieter fics, two Marcus Pike fics, and Dave/Santi.

@iamasaddie Popped out a dark Valentine's Day prompt and past Nerdie said sure! Thus we're going to have a different version of Marcus Pike. (Not “Daddy” I made a slight edit to the prompt). He might be a bit manipulative, but it's for your benefit. Not odd at all. It's still in bullet points and some of them may change I gave @ramblers-lets-get-ramblin a preview so have to ask her if it makes any sense. 😄 (The above gif is how I picture this Marcus. Like he looks so sweet, but sir, SIR! But also we're okay with it, maybe.)

@magpiepills gave me an excellent idea for meeting Marcus Pike at a motel based off a Tag game we did a week or two ago. I've thought of three parts for the thing. I just gotta write it. That will be the Marcus fluff we know and love. 💕

@angelofsmalldeath-codeine Sweetly asked if there was an update on my chapter Dieter series "Weddings 101 with Dieter." I am working on chapter 4, I just have to work out the details. The devil is there and he is mocking me. 😈 The Horny Delegation's High Chancellor has high expectations. Maybe I should have written it a little worse. 🤗

Dave/Santi have their bullet points mostly. I did start on them. Maybe February @for-a-longlongtime It needs a lot more meat, lube, cargo pants and zip ties. There may be a preview of that next week along with some Santiago smut. The Santi x reader smut will be @rhoorl (she started it with her ask) and @legendary-pink-dot fault who sent me one journalist's investigative piece on Oscar's Dune beard. 🤣 I also blame Pinterest. You search “Oscar Isaac beard” one time. Sheesh. 😒

I finished my addition to the PMAMC 2024 challenge organized by the talented @wannab-urs and, well, it's done and out there. 👀 Read the other ones and come back to mine, if you think about it. This week is everyone is posting so there will be a masterlist up later with everyone who participated.

Dieter’s aware he’s often loud enough for the both of you and he finds that hearing the few moans that you will give him, fill him with a sense of accomplishment. He remembered that you’d told him that it was difficult to climax sometimes and actually you’ve reached your peak so much more often with him than other partners, because he cared to find out where your spots are, what makes you feel good. Your hushed noises weren’t an indication that he wasn’t doing well, you just weren't used to making sounds during sex. Since the two of you met at a club where you had misplaced your shoes and Dieter let you borrow his crocs, you’d been seeing each other when you could. It was one of the few stable relationships Dieter had outside of his business team.

Sims 2 Must-Have Mods

I've seen many different Simblrs post their "essential mod" lists, so I thought I'd make one myself. This is more of a highlight reel than anything else, pointing out my favorites.

Aspiration

Alternative For Permaplat - Replaces "permaplat" with the FreeTime ability to cheat death.

Growing Up Wants Panel - Want/fear slots come from birthdays instead of university. I use an edited version of this that changes the positive reward minimum from gold aspiration to green.

Mood Mod: Advanced Version - Factors a Sim's recent memories and aspiration meter into their mood meter.

Food

Auto Store Food - Sims autonomously put away leftovers. (Note: This may need tweaking to prevent it from happening at dorms and restaurants.)

Breakfast At Midnight - Removes mealtime restrictions for all Maxis meals, allowing breakfast for dinner, dinner for lunch, etc.

Dinner For 8 - Changes the amount of servings for Maxis meals from six to eight, feeding a whole family.

Leftover Hack - When Sims decide to cook or get a snack, they'll find their leftovers and choose to eat those instead.

No Food Serving - Stops Sims from serving meals. Instead, they put the meal on the counter and take a serving for themselves. (Unpublished; Shared by Rudhira in the Lazy Duchess Discord server.)

Some Jobs While Flunking - Removes the grade requirement for some teen careers, e.g. Criminal.

Misc

Sims2RPC - Custom launcher with a built-in fix for First Born Syndrome. Also has settings for lot impostor detail and the cost of using the Design Tool.

Birthday Suit Overlays - DR; Transparent overlays for supernaturals that work with nearly any custom skintone.

Glass Update - DR; Fixes every window/door in the game to have clear glass instead of blue.

More Walkbys + Car Passbys - What it says on the tin. It works automatically & requires no lot-specific setup.

Object Freedom - Makes every object shiftable, and greatly reduces the need for walk-through tiles or the Move Objects cheat. (Note: This may result in some funky object placement, like two children placing their homework on the same tile.)

Shrub Teleport - Turns every shrub on a lot into a well-organized Sim spawner. It lists Sims in surname alphabetical order, and gives the age and sex of each sim (i.e. "ch+m" for child+male).

Apologies for the delay in my reply, dear anon, but I wanted to give your question the time and attention it deserves. It's true, I did not design my default model to be able to consume and digest food, but that would lead to a simple answer of "no" and that's not any fun, is it? That's not what people come to this ask box for. So I decided to conduct a little experiment. I figured, I've created a mostly-functioning human body before, surely I can do it again. And it took me a little longer than expected, because I decided to use the character creator in Starfield to make the base, and there are just so many options and details to go through. I could spend all day poring over the eyebrows alone. When it's a face I'm going to be wearing, everything needs to be absolutely perfect. A mirror to my true soul. Dashing, refined, with an air of wisdom. I need Stanley to see me as a kindly, avuncular authority figure, but also his best friend.

Anyway six days later Stanley knocked on my office door wondering where I'd been all this time. I realized I had completely let the passage of time slip away from me, so I settled for using what I had built up to that point. It's.... adequate for the job at hand, and comfortable enough to control. Creating the food was much easier; I just imported a bunch of free Unity assets (oh yes, I'll have to make another post to rant about the Unity situation). I let Stanley taste test everything with me to see how our palates differed, and Roman filed the data away wherever it is he puts all that stuff. Read on for the results of my first foray into gastronomy!

ITEM 1: Cheeseburger

The classic American favourite, which Stanley insisted I try first. He apparently loves them and devoured his in a few gigantic bites. I eschewed any condiments because I thought for my first ever experience with taste, I shouldn't have too many competing flavours. The experience was pleasant, a soft and chewy bun giving way to fatty acids. I think this is what they call "umami". The sensation immediately gave me confidence in the entire process of eating. If this is what most foods are like, no wonder humans spend so much time talking about and preparing them. What an intriguing benefit of being an organic lifeform.

ITEM 2: Cinnamon bun

Oh my god??? The blast of sugar upon sugar is totally overwhelming! How can anyone eat an entire one of these all at once? Well, I know the answer to that already, because I ate all of mine and then pounced on Stanley for the second half of his, despite his protests and screams. It was not my finest moment, but I was so intoxicated by sweetness that something primal took over, and I seized my prize from out of his feeble hands. I think I shall not have another, tempting as it may be, lest I lose my senses once again.

ITEM 3: Edamame

What a case of whiplash. After the dizzying highs of the cinnamon bun, these beans frankly disgusted me at first. Hard, fibrous, and bitter. That is, until Stanley kindly informed me that you're supposed to pop the seeds out and discard the shell. (Why couldn't he have done that before watching me bite into a dozen of them???) The result was much more palatable, although I still had the taste of the shells lingering on my tongue. I needed a drink to refresh my palate...

ITEM 4: Water

Cool, crisp, refreshing. Not much else to say about it. I can see why people drink it though. Other than needing it to survive, I mean.

ITEM 5: Vegetable lasagne

Now this is a more complex dish, but I felt I was up to the challenge by this point. There was perhaps a bit too much cheese, and the sauce got all over my hands as I picked it up, but the flavour profile was overall a lovely melange of starch and vegetable. At least I think that's what I tasted; I'll need more experience to compare. Unfortunately, about halfway through this dish I began to feel an overwhelming internal heaviness. I didn't realize that when humans say they are "full", they mean it quite literally. The act of taking another bite, no matter the food, became repulsive to me. I am still recovering from this sensation.

ITEM 6: Pomegranate

What the hell is this. I always pictured Persephone just biting into one of these like an apple, but there's no way you could bite through this rind. (Why do human teeth have to be so dull?) Neither Stanley nor I could figure out how to penetrate the fruit to get to the edible flesh. Alas, I did not create a set of kitchen knives. I don't trust Stanley with blades. Eventually he decided to throw it down the stairs to see what happens. What happened was it exploded into a pile of seeds that looked disturbingly gory. It reminded me of my second-least-favourite ending. I didn't dare try it.

In conclusion, so far my favourite is definitely the cinnamon bun. More research will be needed on sweets and baked goods to see if any of them hold up. Thanks for asking!

Love in the Air Episode 8 thoughts

Okay y'all. This is probably going to be a long one, but I wanted to put up a more detailed breakdown of my thoughts about episode 8. I typed all of this in Word first, so that I could try and make it as organized as possible, but my thoughts tend do skew toward rambly-ness (you've probably noticed). This post is about 1900 words, so I also understand if you don't feel like reading all of it.

So I don’t know what would be easier, in terms of structure for this?  But, I’ve decided on character by character. So I’m going to start with Sky, as he’s the one we kind of have the most insight to so far, since we have a good amount of interaction with him through Rain’s story in the first half of the season.  For clarity, I have not read the novels, so any info I have on those is based around other posts on the internets.  I will also say that my thoughts come from where I am, and are based around my own experiences, so of course I can be reading things differently than other viewers.  Also, a lot of what I talk about are things that are subtextual (could be deliberate or not), so they are far more subjective.

When we meet Sky at the beginning of the season, he’s fairly reserved, shy-seeming, but he’s not a push over. With the friendship between him and Rain, Rain is the more vocal one, slightly less mature than Sky, and because it suits him Sky just leaves Rain to pull focus.  Rain is also more combative, whereas Sky seems to have a peacemaker personality (you see evidence of this during the club fight in the episode). Based around fan discussion of the series over the last several weeks, but this can be observed just in the trailer for the show, you learn that Sky is a survivor of SA.  This could certainly be a reason for his preference to stay out of any drama.  He also shows himself to be very sarcastic, even snarky.  He also doesn’t put up with Rain’s bullshit much more than Payu does.  We don’t have a clear sense of a timeline, but I gather that Sky’s assault is fairly recent, with-in the last few months.  This means that he still very early on in any type of emotional or psychological recovery, and it would track with intimate partner violence for him not to be seeking professional help with this recovery.  I think, based on his reactions to Prapai’s proposition, that Sky has a negative self-image, brought about by someone who was supposed to care for him betraying his trust and dehumanizing him to gain physical pleasure.  He’s just been presented with this sort of confirmation that his value is based around him being a sexual partner, not based around his personhood.

I also think that Sky is meant to be a bit of the other side of Rain’s coin.  In the beginning, Rain is innocent, and also believes he is straight, so he’s learning a lot about his sexuality and by the end of his and Payu’s story is a lot more comfortable and assertive as a sexual partner.  Sky is clearly out to some extent prior to where the show starts.  He was openly dating another man, I think based around his comfortability with sex during the one-night stand, he was comfortable with and enjoyed sex prior to his trauma.  I also think Sky, for all his pragmatism is a bit of a romantic. His willingness to do what he can as Rain’s wingman, and his pretty consistent encouragement of Rain and Payu, is where I get that feeling.  We may get more confirmation of that later in the series, or not, who knows.

Now onto Prapai and Sky’s first meeting- Based on the acting and body language.  Sky see’s Prapai, they make full eye contact sort of across the street.  This moment of eye contact clearly reads to me as love at first sight, for both sides. Now relevance or realism aside, Rain and Payu are also a love at first site couple, and so I don’t think this is an off the wall read of the way this is presented in the show. Then the security sees him, and he tries to leave, gets caught, and Prapai intervenes (one could argue rescues), and they go behind the bus/van things.  During the beginning of their conversation, there’s very sustained eye contact (which does not indicate fear). Then we get the proposition.  Now Sky is here, a place his dirtbag ex knows of/possibly frequents, now this new guy that he finds physically attractive wants sex but doesn’t even ask his name.  Sky jumping to the conclusion that this is just one more asshole, is not much of a leap, especially when Sky is aware these are illegal races and such.  Prapai goes to touch his face, and Sky stops him, rolling his eyes, and you can just hear him thinking of course, not a nice guy, but just another asshole who wants sex.  They lock eyes again, Prapai says ‘time’s running out, tick tock’ and Sky closes his eyes, sighs, and grabs Prapai’s collar and tells him to ‘take it’.  That last sentence happens in all of maybe 20 seconds, so there’s a lot going on here, but our brains work faster than we really know.  Here’s what I think is going on in Sky’s head: 1-This guy is hot, 2-He’s also an ass, clearly only interested in sex, 3-but I would like to have sex with him.  Then he does what a lot of trauma survivors do, he makes a destructive decision with decent certainty that he’s at least going to get temporary pleasure out of it.  Now…the ‘just take what you want’ that’s a heavy line, and I think it’s partly Sky putting Prapai in control so that he can sort of write off the decision he’s made.  I think it could also be read as a sort of test, which Prapai fails.  Now in my very first post about this, I said that I didn’t feel this was coercion, and I don’t.  I truly believe that Sky would have the balls to say fuck you to Prapai, whatever the consequences.  The issue is that he’s tempted by Prapai, and he’s not emotionally ready for that temptation.

Once we move to the scene at Prapai’s apartment, that entire scene, Sky is an active participant, and regularly in a position of control.  These are unspoken cues of consent.  He’s clearly enjoying himself and I would kind of describe it as Sky using Prapai the way he assumes Prapai is using him.  There’s no affection, just attraction.  Sky also…goes back for seconds.  And when he leaves, and the adrenaline and serotonin are gone, we see him in the front of the building, and all of these emotions are hitting him.  He’s angry, but anger is a secondary emotion—it’s a response to other deeper emotions.  The cause for his anger is sadness and shame.  He’s ashamed for letting his baser instincts get the better of him, for giving another person the ability to hurt him, and he's sad because he feels dehumanized.  Sky is recovering from trauma based around him being used, and he now feels used by Prapai (unintentionally on Prapai's part, but that's not the point).

He goes home, he goes on with his life, he wants to forget, but he can’t, for I think a combination of reasons.  1- he’s still not dealing with the trauma from his ex, stuck in those negative thoughts about his own self-worth, 2-he was interested in Prapai before deciding he was an ass, 3- He did enjoy the sex, and if you like sex, and you’re not having any, it’s hard not to think about good sex.

Now let’s talk about Prapai.  I will be clear, that I have a bias for his type of character. I enjoy a reformed rogue, and that’s going to color my opinion, along with the fact that unlike Sky, we as the audience have a lot more information and context to Prapai’s personality.  I don’t believe Prapai was serious about handing Sky over to security, apparently in the novel this is more clearly expressed, but I will say that I also felt like he was joking on my first watch of the episode, before I saw the commentary about the book offering that additional context (EDIT: Here's a link to a post from lutawolf with excerpts from the book regarding their first interactions) .  He's also still a stranger to Sky, so it’s understandable that he would assume that he was serious, especially with Sky’s own biases and history.  I think Sky’s bravado in telling Prapai to ‘take what he wants’ leads Prapai to believe that Sky was down for stringless sex.  The conversation later between Prapai and his brother, along with his booty call, would indicate that Prapai is a regular participant in stringless sex.  And there’s nothing wrong with stringless sex, the issue here is that this assumption by Prapai in combination with Sky’s history leads to Prapai hurting Sky unintentionally.  This is one of the dangers of sex with someone you don’t really know. 

Once that night is over, Prapai’s still thinking about Sky, for the same reasons Sky’s still thinking about him (the love at first sight moment and the sex being very good).  As someone who’s never encountered this, he doesn’t know what to do.  During the conversation with Saifah, he realizes that he wants to know more about Sky, he’s intrigued by him.  Prapai is a guy who clearly has a great deal of drive, who grew up very privileged, and so it’s not surprising to see him pursue Sky the way he does.  There is entitlement there, I’m not arguing that, but that’s why it's good and important that Sky doesn’t just swoon for him.  Sky’s not falling for a charming mask; been there, done that, still processing that betrayal.  In order to win Sky over Prapai’s going to have to be very honest with him, because Sky struggles with trust (understandably).

I talked in a previous post about how Love in the Air is character-driven, not plot driven.  The point is the growth of the characters, both individually and as couples. Prapai is going to have to be honest and real with Sky in order to form any type of relationship with him.  As someone whose never really tried to create a true emotional connection with a romantic partner, that’s going to be where his growth is.  His affection for Sky is what’s going to get him there. For at least a couple episodes we’re going to see Sky regularly brushing off his advances, and if Prapai wasn’t so intrigued he would give up.  Prapai knows he can get it whenever he wants, he’s got the numbers in his phone.  He wouldn’t be focused on Sky if there wasn’t that kernel of emotional connection and affection already there.  Prapai also thrives on challenge, his racing is a clear allusion to this, and Sky is a challenge to him.  Sky’s journey is going to be recovery of his ability to trust a romantic partner and regaining/recognizing his self-worth.

I did want to mention that I’ve seen several mentions about Mame’s pretty consistent use of SA as a plot device. I’ve personally only seen TharnType and Love in the Air, I’ve not read anything or seen any other shows from them, but SA is a plot point in both.  I do agree that use of that type of trauma as a plot device, especially repeatedly can be very much an ick, and that’s reasonable.  For the character of Type and for Sky, the part of their story we’re seeing is their healing journey, and I do think that representation is important for other survivors.

Four New Traits!

Update: I've received some feedback and decided to reconsider adding the new traits. Check out this post for more information!

I'm not completely sure yet how these traits will work, but since this'll probably be the last ones I'll add in Volume 1, I've decided to add them in the next update and get some feedback sooner rather than later. They are:

A couple of years ago, someone pointed out to me that some of the MC's choices/thoughts have elements of anxiety/autism/ADHD and asked if this was the case. This was mostly unintentional on my part, and since it's an unfamiliar and sensitive subject, I thought it'd be best to not have an explicit choice for it, but fine if people wanted to headcanon it.

I wanted to give it a shot just like I did with the gender stuff (which was enlightening for both me and my characters), especially because having a young MC gives me a unique point of view to explore them. So I thought about it some more, and I think I found a way to make it work without adding a lot of extra workload.

I know that it's a spectrum and there's no strict definition or a single correct way of presenting them, so instead I separated it into different traits that doesn't directly state that the MC is neurodivergent. Writing in first person makes it hard to account for in every variation in every choice, so I'm keeping it somewhat vague and hopefully this gives the flexibility that MC may be either undiagnosed, or just has those traits.

This is a bit long, so I'll go a little bit into detail how I plan to implement the traits below:

⚡ [Hyperactive!]: (+20% Silly, Doubles [Well-Rested] Stat Bonuses)

You can select this trait at the beginning of Chapter 1, where you choose how to react to the bell ringing. The choice is:

Finally! Sitting inside the classroom for hours is torture. Some people say I'm hyperactive—but I don't understand how some people can just sit around all day.

This will probably restrict most passive choices where you decide not to do anything, and add new flavor text when the MC isn't doing much.

💫 [Easily Distractable]: (+10% Bonus EXP, -10% Knowledge)

You can select this trait when looking at the Top 10 Students list while cleaning the classroom. The choice is:

It'd be nice to see my name up there with Wayne sometime. Understanding the lessons isn't that hard, but focusing on exams, assignments, studying—that's what's really hard. Wayne also struggles with not getting distracted, but he always knows how to keep me engaged when there's something more interesting than what we're studying.

This is a permanent version of the [Needs Improvement] Passive, with Wayne being MC's study buddy instead of JM. I hope the comparison with Wayne here is okay—I want to frame it in a positive light but I'm not sure if this is the best way. (The text after the choice mentions that if Wayne can do it, then MC can do it as well.)

In addition, the trait will also provide some unique flavor text and variations in certain scenes (especially long conversations).

😳 [Socially Awkward]: (+30% Introvert, +30% Reserved)

You can select this trait during Roselyna's introduction after she first hugs you. The choice is:

I stutter. What if I say something wrong? What if I misunderstood what she's saying—or she misunderstands me? Am I overthinking again? I don't wanna repeat myself over and over trying to explain.

MC's mostly comfortable around their friends, so I imagine this will mostly manifest in emotional scenes, when you meet a new person, when you discover a secret, interacting with B, or when MC has the choice of not being sure what to say (excluding their twin), and automatically default to that choice (with slightly different dialogue) if it makes sense. It would be exhausting to read if this affected every conversation.

🎒 [Super Organized]

You can select this trait along with the other organizational traits when packing your bag in Chapter 1. The choice is:

...and meticulously arrange my belongings/stuff by proper label and color. My bag is super organized, and it helps me focus this way.

Not much to say here, it's just a slightly different version of the [Organized] Trait.

Current Villans/Antagonists List

I thought it would be interesting to list the villains in my iterations. Several are gonna be from previous iterations, there will be a few OC’s but they are limited and are based off of groups or concepts of past shows/iterations. (This gets long, 20 characters/organizations)

Shredder/Oroku Saki (all iterations): heir to the Foot clan, he was taken as a young baby by the leader of the Hamato clan after the Foot clan was destroyed and leaders killed. He found out his past and decided to avenge his fallen clan, rebuilding it and making it his mission to kill every Hamato clan member, even his adopted family.

Karai (most iterations): twin of Miwa, the adopted daughter of Oroku Saki, she has complete and unwavering faith in her father and his mission (right? yeah... right)

Miwa (Karai's alternative name in 2012): twin of Karai, the adopted daughter of Oroku Saki, the more fun twin of the two, less honorable but would follow her sister to the ends of the Earth (and beyond)

The Foot Clan (all iterations): members of the old Foot clan that survived, or family members of those killed came together to follow Shredder, seeking revenge

Tigerclaw (2012): an assassin that was raised in the Foot clan from birth. He was mutated during a fight with the turtles and Krang.

The Krang (most iterations): From Dimension X (inspo from 80′s and 2012), they’re trying to take over the Earth and mutate everything to make it more habitable for themselves. Hivemind with a giant powerful version and smaller versions. Mostly like 2012 but they don’t talk weird and have several different human disguises.

The Purple Dragons (all iterations): Giant gang that has been slowly taking over NYC. Didn’t really appreciate Shredder coming in like that with his ninja’s and all, but find it difficult to win fights against them. Once they realized they had a common enemy (the turtles), they decided to work together on the occasion.

Hun (found in 2003 and 2012): leader of the purple dragons. He’s transmasc and has a soft spot for genderqueer kids, including Leo (and later Donnie), but the turtles are still on his to kill list.

Right (OC): right hand woman for Hun, her inspiration is Harley Quinn. She’s very agile and fast. Right is just a nickname

Left (OC): left hand man for Hun. He’s a silent muscle type, looks a bit like 2003 Hun. Left is just a nickname

Bebop and Rocksteady (most iterations): Purple Dragon goons that are “best friends” (Iknowwhatyouare) who got mutated alongside Tigerclaw during a fight between the turtles and Krang (I have more details about them that I may share later)

Hobs (IDW comics): an old guy that worked in the Purple Dragons until he was mutated into a cat, then he ran off along side other PD members and started his own gang. Hates everyone and everything

Battle Nexus Owner (sorta OC, concept from 2003 and Rise of the tmnt): obsessed with watching fights, collects and traps warriors in a hidden dimension. The Battle Nexus dimension will be explained in another post.

John Doe (OC): a triceraton trapped in the Battle Nexus (you will get more information if I ever get to that arch)

The Triceratons (most iterations): Some good, some bad, some neutral. A big chunk of them are at war with the Krang and are trying to take over whole universe faster than them. Leader and right hand man have yet to have a name or full backstory.

Baxter Stockman (all iterations): genius scientist who often switches sides from the Purple Dragons and the Foot clan. His reputation was ruined after it was revealed his mousers were being used to commit crimes (have yet to come up with the full story), he blames the turtles for this so he is always against them.

Baron Draxum (Rise of the tmnt): Worked with the Purple Dragons, used to be a body guard until he proved to be very smart and they made him a gang scientist. Whenever Baxter Stockman works with them, they are forced to team up but they never liked each other. Ends up getting mutated

Bishop (2003, 2012, possible rottmnt): government agent that thinks the turtles are evil, though can’t tell what they are. He hunts them down to learn more about them

The Rat King (most iterations): got into a horrible lab accident while experimenting with rats and neurological stuff. Once he realized he can control and communicate with rats, he used them to commit petty crimes

The United (based off of 2003 organization from Honeycutt’s universe): an oppressive government from Professor Honeycutt’s universe. Leader and right hand woman have yet to be named or given proper backstories

I think that’s all for now, I know this was a long read but it’s just a bit of information. I may repeat it in posts purely about them, and I’ll definitely draw all of these characters at some point but you gotta give me time on that

Contract Bound by Elle Mae

Tl;dr

Contract Bound by Elle Mae is a lesbian vampire x vampire hunter enemies to lovers romance.

It is an good read, though obviously if one isn't interested in a dark, toxic - to varying degrees - f/f romance involving vampires, it may not be for you.

Personally? I very much enjoyed it, and while I have too many books on my too read-pile to spend the money on the sequel now, I will almost certainly be getting the sequel (Lost Clause) sooner or later. Whether or not you will like it depends on you. Perhaps the longer review below the readmore will help you decide. (see the bottom of the post for a non-exhaustive list of links on where to get it, as well as details on potential triggers the story contains)

The Premise

The book centers on two characters - Silva, a Hunter for The Order, which is the organization that polices vampires and hunts ones that break the law. They also can be contracted by vampires (law-abiding ones) to protect them against other vampires, or 'Rebels' (humans that want to kill all vampires, even ones that don't kill or who can't be proven to have broken the laws) Her parents were hunters, and she came home one day to find them killed by vampires. (This is all shown in the prologue). She signs up with the Order, and devotes her life to killing vampires. She hates vampires.

The other character is Keir, the heir to the most powerful vampire clan in the world, or so we are told, and a child who acts out to piss off her father. She is due to inherit the clan soon, due to laws imposed by the order that put limits on how long clan heads may remain clan heads. her father, Raphael, is not happy about it, and does everything he can to try and control and restrict her, including contracting with the Order to get her a bodyguard/babysitter to keep her from going out to clubs, picking up girls, seducing them, drinking from them, taking them home, fucking them, wash rinse repeat. Keir, not wanting a bodyguard/babysitter, has gone out of her way to seduce, tempt or otherwise convince every hunter she's gotten assigned to her to break the contract or the rules hunters must abide by. As the back of the book says "whether it was sex, money or power, none of them could resist the temptation."

Obviously, you can see where this is going - the Order sends Silva to be the latest guard, trusting in the fact that she hates vampires so much, and the fact that if she completes the contract her entire debt to the order will be paid off (more on that later) to make sure she stays in line. it's only a few months, and then Keir will be clan head after the power transfer.

And of course, Keir immediately sets out to seduce Silva, only to find out that it isn't quite as simple as she thought it would be - and then, as tensions between them rise, and things happen, they're both faced with a reality they quickly want to deny, each for their own reasons.

It is, about what you'd expect - mostly. In terms of basic tropes and premises, it is an enemies to lovers story involving a vampire and a vampire hunter. It manages to be more than just the tropes, but if you don't like the tropes, you won't like the book.

I will warn that the ending is far, far from happy - it isn't unhappy, this story is not a Dead Lesbian Trope story, but bear that in mind. If you want your queer, toxic vampire drama to end on a fairly positive note, this book is not for you. Admittedly, I do hold out hope that the sequel will provide at least a bittersweet ending, but I was content with the ending for this book, knowing a sequel existed.

The Pros

The two characters have strong voices, and you will find yourself enjoying their POVs, and rooting for their romance as it starts to take hold. It has just the right notes of spiciness in all the right places.

It is indeed very hot, and the humor, dark though it often is, hits quite well. It has a fairly engaging cast of secondary characters operating around the main couple, and it presents Silvia with several moral challenges about her role as a Hunter and the Order, and equally, forces Keir to consider things in ways she never had before. Keir finds herself quickly fascinated by this hunter she can't break, who so clearly wants her, and of course, once Silvia starts to give in, she has that hatred for Keir mixed with the fact she hates herself for not hating Keir as much as she should.

The plot manages to have a number of satisfying twists, that while I didn't see coming - or at least not in the way they did, in some cases - they feel earned, rather than unearned or out of nowhere.

It is exactly what I was looking for involving lesbians, vampires, and enemies to lovers. It hit all the right notes in every way - I've said it several times, but if you are looking for what this story is, then it is very good, and you likely will enjoy it.

The ending was intensely emotionally satisfying despite being not happy. In a 'wreck the reader' sort of way.

The Neutral

The story lacks a strong sense of place, at least to me - the action mostly happens in and around Seattle, by all accounts, but for all that that is relevant, the story could be happening anywhere in America. There's tantalizing hints as to why so many vampires are in America, including the leader of the most powerful clan, a vampire who has been around for many centuries (or more, his exact age is never provided), but they are not really followed up on. (More on this later) This isn't necessarily bad, but it is worth noting.

The story treats vampirism as more an infection than a supernatural state happening to dead bodies, although one does have to die first to be a vampire, and being turned into a vampire is a way to not die if you are dying from some sort of injury. This - the vampirism being an infection rather than supernatural - is generally not a version of the vampire as a concept I personally care for, but that's a question of personal taste rather than a knock against the book.

In connection with the above, it also has vampires as something that can be born - two vampires can have a vampire kid, a vampire and a human can have a vampire kid - not a dhampir, or anything like that, an actual vampire (though half-human vampires need sleep and food, but they still need blood and are very much considered vampires in-universe). Again, this isn't something I really care for, but again, it's a question of personal taste.

The Cons

The biggest con, and arguably this is subjective, but it bugged me enough that I'm going to put it here, is the thin worldbuilding. We are given hints, about the emergency of vampires being this big deal that created mass chaos until the Order was established, but the details are left vague, at best, and it kept bothering me.

The Order appears to be a private organization, but also a government one, filling both functions, but none of this is laid out.

The reasons for why vampire clans work the way they do, why all vampires are largely so much in awe of Raphael (Keir's father) and his clan are implied, and not well explored.

The Order is presented as an intensely controlling, dickish organization that uses its Hunters and spits them back out - which is not exactly an uncommon trope, and some of it makes sense in-universe, but other parts - very much do not. Their controlling, jerk behavior to their own people, let alone their hilarious disregard for civilian casualties (and their apparent license to commit them) as well as some of their more absurd or draconian rules, seems to be there mainly to create conflict for Silva, but the problem is, these rules and behaviors make the Order's job much harder, to a rather nonsensical degree, as far as I can tell. Yes, people and institutions can be jerks, massive, giant jerks, but when that jerkishness undermines their ability to fulfill their function, especially in fiction, a little more explanation is needed.

Another issue is that the Order apparently keeps all it's hunters in debt, like indentured servants, as a means of controlling them. Being trained as a hunter costs money as do your room and board at Hunter HQ, which is still cheaper than living outside of it. They provide some meals free, but only two a day. And the only way to get money to pay off your debt is working missions to kill vampires, or trying to find other ways to make money (the main character alludes to a period early on in her career where she and her friends started doing chores for a high-ranking member of the Order). Since it seems that many Hunters join the Order because of personal tragedy at the hands of vampires, it seems very odd that this would be necessary. Though the Order is so cruel and controlling that even though Silva hates vampires, she does leap at the chance to have her debt covered entirely. In terms of the story, the debt does seem to serve as a necessary plot device to get Silvia to take the mission and then stay long enough for the 'to lovers' part to start to kick in, but it feels like a choice with less implications for the larger worldbuilding would have been better and done the job just as well. Because again, the seeming incoherence of it all bugged me throughout the book, even as I enjoyed it.

Which is really my issue with the worldbuilding in general - it is very thin, and yet keeps hinting at and teasing at implications. I don't know if the author intends to provide answers in the sequel, or if there never will be much followup. I didn't pick up the book with worldbuilding as a major draw, so the lack of it isn't a major detraction (though I am talking about it at length here, it didn't stop me from enjoying the book at all, it's just takes more words to say and I am, by nature, not prone to gushing in great detail about what I like about something), but it did bug me throughout the story.

I don't mind a story not doing a lot of worldbuilding, but when a story hints at greater worldbuilding just beyond the scope of the story, and doesn't follow through, that does bother me. If the author wanted to just focus on the romance over the worldbuilding, then I think they shouldn't have provided so many tantalizing hints and teases and implications, and then not followed up on them to any significant degree, if at all.

Conclusion

Though the thin worldbuilding was a distraction and a negative, overall, the story is excellent at being what it sets out to be, and for that, I did love it. I wanted an f/f vampire x vampire hunter dark romance, and I got that in spades, and a few more things I didn't expect.

But, if you are the kind of reader that needs the worldbuilding to hang together or be good, or seeks out worldbuilding in your vampire stories, this may not be it for you.

Trigger Warnings For The Story

The book actually does have some surprisingly good trigger warnings before you actually get to the story, in the first few pages. But of course, you have to buy the book first to see those. From the Author's website, we have this accurate list of warnings

The themes can include but are not limited to; sexual assault mention, death, gore, parental abuse, nonconsensual biting, off and slight on page SA, trafficking mention, dubious consent, blood play, biting, self harm, tourture, violence.

Of those, I think bloodplay, gore, death and the two biting ones should be pretty obvious - it's a vampire story. Still, better to list them. Of the rest, dubious consent, violence and torture were the ones that really stood out to me as worth drawing attention to. If any of those are significant issues for you, you may want to be careful about the book - that doesn't mean don't buy it or read it if it is otherwise interesting, obviously how or if you engage with what squicks or triggers you is up to you, but always keep that in mind.

Full disclosure, there are all on US versions of these websites, I don't know availability outside the US or prices or anything like that, but one would assume the ebook is available through amazon in other countries if nothing else. In principle some of these options should also be available in other countries, but in practice, I don't know. I apologize for my US centrism.

After exchanging numbers with the Doctor, you wondered:

" I don't quite know who this guy is.."

Maybe it was a bit too early for an introduction, he made his point clear. He didn't have time to always check if whoever he was helping asked a question through their account. The only way he could reach you was through your emails... which you rarely check just that the only time you bothered looking at the new notification was when he sent a message. The site you were using didn't have a private chat function. They had a word and comment limit per accounts per post so if somebody were to be going through a very detailed answer, they wouldn't be able to finish because of the word/character limit. So basically, in conclusion, exchanging numbers was the best idea.

Day by day, you asked questions and as promised, he answered the second you sent them. Although sometimes he'd respond later, but instead of mocking you by saying "While using basic knowledge we're able to figure that..", he'd say "Through my experimentation I figured.."

Although you didn't mind it at first. Since, he mostly answered in this manner when you questioned the success of one of your theories which was only reasonable for him to recreate your ideas to see if they function in the same ways they did when you described them while using your knowledge and imagination. The more you asked the more you wanted to start classes for biology, since your school offered some. So a few days passed and during that period you tried to convince yourself to try to get a decree in biology. Your thoughts got the best of you and so you joined, you tried to make notes of all the knowledge you had just gained on the subject just for the sake of being a bit advanced in your studies. The start of the semester came and of course the main subject of the following classes of the first part of the semester were based within the objective of learning the functions of each organ/muscle in the human body.

You had to learn which was more important and so on. Using what the functions of each organ were, you needed to figure what would happen if only 3 organs of your choice were absent in the human body. In your essay you had to write two paragraph one answering the following questions:

What are the names of the organs? If they were known under other names you needed to list them.

What are the purposes of each organ?

Where are they placed in the body?

Then you had to continue with the help of the answers you got from answering these:

How long will the body survive?

What are the side effects? What are it's effects on the rest of the body, are each part of the body connected to that organ somewhat destroyed?

Why did the absence of the organ cause those side effects?

You found it pretty easy. You searched through your textbooks and after a while you finished. But a wonder came to your head. What would've happened if the organs you didn't chose were absent. What if it was one of the many parts of the brain that got removed? Will the person act differently. Can the absence of an organ bring any form of change to the movement of limbs and the human body in general. So, you asked the Doctor. Now, you felt more comfortable knowing you knew him a lot more then before through the small conversations you had that weren't based around the subject of science.

So after a few seconds after asking that turned into minutes then hours then a few days, nothing, nothing happened. He didn't respond and your message was left on read. You didn't mind it to much since you had other priorities. And, some Doctor who could answer all sorts of questions about himself only if the questions was based on his tastes was not one of your priorities.

Aside from science, you enjoyed arts, doing anything that could satisfy your creativity while yet staying in a peaceful mindset was one of your hobbies. Why? Since you could actually concentrate. You had an average life in Snezhnaya. You knew all about the harbingers due to how many times you've heard one of your close ones talk about their accomplishments. You walked through thick and heavy snow to get to school while wearing layers upon layers of clothing due to the low temperatures of the region then in the afternoon you came back the same way that you did in the morning. Only through walking did you get anywhere. You lived in a village where you grew up in and also knew everybody due to how close the community was. But after thinking about your problem you noticed that it has been a long time since that Doctor had answered your questions. But, the time that came by ever since the day you asked for an answer raised as much as the people going missing did. Day by day more missing posters were hung up. You knew how hated your region was. But, now people are trying to kidnap the people you knew ever since you were a child? Impossible. Many things were going on in your life and it felt abnormal to say. Normally you were always at peace now, you don't know if you're going to be that kidnapper s' next victim and another issue is your everlasting worry for some person who if they were to write a book, one of their texts will suffice for one entire chapter.

But, today felt like a normal day to you. You were going to go to your classes and come back. And, that's what you did. You arrived almost late, you sat down at your seat and listened to the teacher talk about the purpose of the muscles and the name of each ones. By the end you had to come back by walking with your boots through layers of snow. And, once you came back you saw a notification on your phone announcing an up-coming message. You looked at the sender just to the "Doctor."

You jumped on your bed and read through the message. He had describe all the effects of the absence of each organ through a very long paragraph (for each organ obviously). While reading through the message, you noticed how most of them ended up having fatal side effects. He even added what will happen if the human slowly lost all their blood at once and also what would happen if different parts of the brain were to be removed. But yet again, he began his answer with the statement: "Through doing some experimentation I was able to figure.."

So, after reading that you could only ask:

"How do you do your experimentations?"

He answered seconds after:

"Well, I remark all the important organs and maybe veins and muscles and I try to compare their value with their function just to be able to find what will the human body lack of if the organ were to be destroyed. Then I see if there will be any other organ affected by this destruction and compare it to the danger of having that organ harmed indirectly by the absence of the part of the body that got taken away."

You didn't quite understand how that could possibly work. Although using your little knowledge all that he was saying before seemed believable and reliable. So, maybe this was how you can predict what will happen if an organ were to get removed from the body. After some thinking you asked:

"Can I meet you by chance, Doctor?"

"You're In Snezhnaya right?"

"Yeah, I am."

"Then, sure."

An update about The Monsters Only We See

+ my future writing

Things have happened in the last couple of days and I have some news for you. They're not bad news, but relevant ones. It's about the near future of both my current project TMOWS and my future project that I'll announce soon. This is a long one, so I'll put it under a read more.

Things have happened and decisions have been made so sit with me for a second.

As you may know if you follow me, one of my goals for this year was that I wanted to publish The Monsters Only Wee See. I finished the final version of it around April or May (and the English translation not too long ago) and since then I wanted to get the register for copyright, ISBN and self publish of it done before this year ended. I thought I could do it in a few months at max, but then irl stuff just kept happening to me and I had to kept pushing back starting the process. Recently tho, I finally did and I got the first step done: get a special signature required for the registration. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred.

While reading about the process of it in order to know what to do next, something very troublesome caught my attention: the process could be started online, but has to be finished in person in the offices of the copyright organization for my country. This is all reasonable, of course you'd want to do an in-person procedure when it comes to giving the rights of a thing to someone. That isn't the problematic part.

The problem is that the offices are only in the capital of the country. Only there. ONLY there.

There's not like, a building per state and then HQ is in the capital like I imagined, no. Only there they are. And the capital is very, very far away from where I live. Going there by bus in NOT an option, and the plane can be expensive. I have to double check to make sure there's absolutely no option to do the procedure online, and talking to a parent about this situation, I've come to a decision.

The Monsters Only Wee See will not be published this year.

Tbh, this sucks. I really wanted to get this out by this year, but it's simply not realistic. Next year there will probably come a time where I have to move for a period of time near the capital, and then going back and forth in order to do the registration will be easier, so it'll have to wait till then. It sucks that I have to keep pushing back this project's end, but I also wanna do right by it, by getting the copyright and the ISBN and publish it properly. And who knows, maybe by then I'll be working so I'd have money to pay an actual book cover artist for the cover!! Silver linings, y'all.

So. What now? Well, since I thought I'd publish it during this year, I've also been pushing back introducing my next wip, the one I'll work in now alongside WCB. I did so as a way to keep my ADHD from ADHD-ing so I could focus on getting TMOWS out first and then working on the next one. However, since TMOWS is not gonna come out any time soon...I can now put it in the back burner and work on the next one! So that's what I'll do!!

Thus I'll be introducing a new wip sometime soon. I have to get the final details ready (like a mood board lol) in order to do a proper wip intro, but you'll be seeing it sooner than later. This also means I'll start writing the first draft for it that, technically, I've already started, but I can't decide on the hook so I've haven't done any progress at all.

So the posts about my wips will look something like this from now on:

TMOWS - Updates about the progress in the registration process.

WCB - Little excerpts and/or posts about the writing of Book 2.

New wip - Intro post for the wip and the characters, and little excerpts and/or posts about writing the first draft.

Hello, friends, strangers, stalkers, void, whomever is reading these words, and welcome to my page. What you're about to read will be a collection of memories and stories from my life, past and present.

Here is your warning; These are not all sunshine and rainbows. I will be honest in telling my truth, and unfortunately life is not always great. I will be addressing many tough things, including, but not limited to, abuse in many forms, including sexual, suicidal thoughts and ideology, depression, anxiety, cancer, murder, grief, politics, religion, sexuality, and I'm sure many more. I will do my best to tag or mark them in some way, but at least you know what you're in for now.

Alright! Now that's done, if you're still with me, I thought I'd do a short introduction to get started.

My name is Libby, and I'm 37 years old. I'm engaged, with a teenage step-son. I live with my fiance, our son, and our roommate, C. (I'm not sure if she wants me to use her name or not yet.)

I'm chronically ill and live with chronic pain, likewise for my entire household. I have multiple illnesses that no one else in my family has. Winner of the generic lottery right here! I'll get more into that later.

I grew up in the middle of nowhere, in the bible belt. Let's just say I'm not a fan of organized religion. I don't begrudge anyone for their beliefs, with limits such as racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. There ARE some things we can't disagree on and remain friends. I have boundaries.

I share a small Yorkie with my fiance, and we live with my roommates dog as well. I have another dog, but when I moved here, the friend I was counting on to help me make my last trip, which would include my dog, bailed and ghosted me. My dog is old, and I worry about her constantly. I've made attempts since, but I lack the money. She's too old to fly, so she'd have to be driven, and it's a long way...

I'm a recent orphan. My Dad passed from cancer in 2013, and my Mom was murdered this May. I'm not supposed to get into detail about that yet, the trial is ongoing. We'll see. I might post more about it sometime.

So, I'm engaged, right? Well, I'm also going through a divorce. I married young, a few months after my Dad passed... I was so tired of feeling so numb, so I tried to choose love. It didn't last. Anyways, we've been separated since Feb. of 2017, so no worries. I'll get into why we stayed married so long later. Short version; Insurance.

I'm bisexual, and proud. I have many friends and family who are part of the LBGTQ+ community, and I am absolutely an ally.

I'm into games, music, nature, singing, definitely 420 friendly.

I didn't intend for this to be so long, so I'm going to wrap it up for now. G'nite.

anyways they use the same pronouns as i do since he’s my sona (so he/they) and before i get into the logistics of my drawing i have to talk a little more about the octotrios’ countdown art bc i left a few bits of information out of the original post (since i wasn’t prepared for anyone to be so invested sdjskdjsk)

Jade and Azul particularly have a lot of other similarities, more so than Floyd and Azul, which makes sense considering the two of them are more similar to each other. like Azul and Jade both facing left with a hand on their hat and both of them smirking. the bubbles also surround them more as i think i mentioned before rather than coming out of their mouth like Floyd’s does. (although it may be interesting to not that jade lets the bubbles entirely surround him while Azul only lets them stay in front or to the side of him. is this important? possibly lmao but that’s not what i’m here to talk about so,)

my sona’s countdown art was sorta made to mirror both Azul and Floyd particularly. mirror Azul’s in the way the tweels are both facing back and in opposite directions w their heads tilted different ways, and mirror Floyd’s in the way Azul and Jade’s do. I did a few things to sorta mimic them so lemme try to list them rq (excluding the bubbles bc i’ll get to those later)

• azul faces down, mine has his head raised

• azul faces left, I face right

• both azul and I’s most notable clothing article is the grey colored thing but thats less bc of me trying to mirror moreso a coincidence

• floyd faces right, i face right

• floyd shows his teeth, i show my teeth

• floyd has his hands down and i have my hands down

• floyd and i both have our heads tilted up

• (and an extra not exactly pose related detail but general character design thing) both floyd and I wear our dorm uniforms more.. messily. haphazardly, you could say

it’s supposed to compliment and mirror aztweels’ cd arts like a missing puzzle piece, essentially, which fits the dynamic i’ve created for them in my head as well. like in the way Jade and Azul are most similar to each other, Lost and Floyd share more traits with each other than they do with the aforementioned two which i don’t wanna mention bc i’ve already been rambling so much and we haven’t even got to what you asked yet ah-

NOW! onto the actual bubbles lmao. notice that i’ve yet to mention jade yet in similarities i’ve chosen to reference/mirror so far. that’s because i referenced his art in the bubbles. the way our bubbles are placed is most similar (ie in the sort of three cluster pattern that surrounds the figure) except mine are with the addition of having the bubbles also come from my mouth in the same way floyd’s do for the aforementioned reasons.

beyond that onto the bubbles themself, i don’t have much to say when it comes to the shape of them besides the fact that i wanted them to be that way lol. somewhat anti climactic, but it’s probably worth noting that they’re organized in a way that makes it look like smaller, thinner, bubbles are gathering to form bigger ones rather than Jade and Azul’s who’s bubbles look more like bigger ones breaking apart. and my bubbles always tend to grow smaller as they rise (save for the corner one because I did that first so it looks most similar as i looked at the reference for it the most + it’s in the corner so we can’t see the top) i can’t really say more for what that means about me personally, it probably says smth lol if you look into it enough but yeah that’s abt it!

conclusion: my twst sona was created to compliment the existing dynamic more than anything else and steals a lot of inspiration from the above three because they grew up in close proximity together and have the habit of picking up on certain inflections and poses (in general, not necessarily seen here)

Do you think you'd do a liveblog of another JoJo part?

Short Answer: Yes, but probably not anytime soon.

Long Answer: So when I first got into Jojo, I would post a screencap from each episode of the anime as I watched it, and this gradually expanded into me discussing the plot at length, particularly when I got to Parts 6 and 7. In 2017, the anime only went up to Part 4, so I had to read the manga to keep going, and the manga was a lot tougher for me to follow, so I used the blog to try to keep track of the plot.

I made it all the way to Part 8, which was about 66 chapters in at the time, and that was probably closer to an actual liveblog-style commentary, but I had a hard time keeping up with it after 2017. The plot was bewildering to me, and trying to make sense of it on a month-by-month basis was frustrating. I tried covering about a dozen more chapters later on, but the darn arc just never wanted to end, and it was getting on my nerves. I just wanted to be done with it, but JoJolion refused to end.

Of course, it did end in 2021, and I read it and enjoyed it, but I sort of lost interest in discussing my reactions on social media. The person who got me into JJBA in the first place sort of... vanished? Fuck if I know. The point is that was the only person I knew who had been caught up with Part 8, so it kind of killed my motivation to document my thoughts on it.

Even so, I'd kind of like to do Part 8 all over again, for the satisfaction of liveblogging it proper. Betwen 2018 and 2021, I did liveblogs of Battle Tendency and Vento Aureo, and I think those turned out a lot better than the stuff I had been doing in 2017. For one thing, it was my second time around, so it was a lot easier to keep track of the story and the characters. For another, I had a clearer sense of how I wanted to organize my thoughts.

I would like to do the rest of them the same way. I re-did Part 2 because it was my favorite, and I'd never read the manga. I re-did Part 5 because my first reading of the manga was the barely-legible scanlation from several years ago, and I wanted to brush up on the story in anticipation of the anime version. So I'd like to liveblog Parts 1, 3, and 4 so I can experience the manga, and Part 6 for the anime, and Part 8 for the sake of properly digesting the thing. I'm not sure I have an agenda for SBR, although by the time I get around to that one, the anime will probably be out.

So there is a desire, but I don't know when I'll have time to commit to it. For what it's worth, the big plan I have for 2023 is a liveblog project, but it's all Dragon Ball material. So if you're interested in that, stay tuned. Maybe I can sneak some JoJo stuff in somewhere, but I don't want to promise anything.

Of course, there's also Part 9 on the horizon. From what I've heard, there's this magazine coming out in December that may give some details about when it'll start, but Jojolion has shown me that it's kind of pointless for me to try to get into one of these things unless I can binge-read it. I think Parts 7 and 8 are roughly equal in terms of quality, but SBR was a lot more fun to read because I could finish it in two weeks instead of four years. I may keep up with Part 9 just so I'll be able to follow the memes, but I probably won't have much to say about it for a long time.

Anyway, the bottom line is that I still like JJBA and I still have things to say about it, but not right now. But I appreciate your interest.

Calcium sulphur batteries (uwu)

Okay, so, i've become interested in z-pinch studies for aerospace purposes (i'm really excited about the prospects, everything works on paper, but i naturally want to actually witness p+N14 fusion for above 0.01% of available protons before i go trying to get the materials to build a real liquid fueled SSTO fusion rocket, especially since there are thousands of folks way smarter than me who have presumably thought of this before and we don't have it yet, so yeah). Anyways, if i want the extremely large electricity input without making my electricity bill higher than a whole month's rent and getting my roommates mad at me, i'll need to collect solar or wind in a battery bank. Since lithium batteries are just about all immoral and expensive (yes i am writing this on a device powered by lithium batteries, it would be lovely if capitalists would take a hint and switch to things that just objectively perform better and are cheaper, but whatever), i figured this would be a nice excuse to experiment around with some new battery designs. Since all of them will require sulphur, i won't be able to really get into it before mid may due to some concerns about the smell and risks of getting sulphur powder everywhere (it's very yellow and hard to clean out), but i felt i might as well share my preliminary ideas. First off, in order to make the organic sulphur polymer, i'm looking to explore mostly citrate based polymers, perhaps with phenylalanine mixed in in order to both give more bulk as well as providing nitrogens for sulphenamides to form. Since i'll need urea later, i was also considering partially polymerizing urea with citric acid and adding that into the molten sulphur mix, but i'm less confident in the stability of that and a bit concerned about the potential noxious fumes produced. Regardless, that's the short of the sulphur cathode, details will definitely change after i refind that paper which went over a great way of preventing insoluble polysulphide production. I'm also gonna experiment with anode material and even the ions i use. I know i said "calcium sulphur batteries" in the title, but due to how common aluminium is and how much easier magnesium is to work with (and the fact that their specific energies are higher), i'll also be considering those two. Even beyond that, there are so many potential anode materials, including even amorphous carbon and carbon nitrides which i'd love to test since there's just so much to improve on and i'd rather do a lot of experiments with cheap to make materials and potentially land on a great solution than accept something subpar because it took less effort. Anyways, of the materials i plan on using, there's magnesium sulphate, aluminium sulphate, calcium chloride, potentially other calcium salts (is the salt with taurine soluble in water? IDK, can't find an answer so i'll test it), charcoal, vegetable oil, urea, and phenylalanine. Those may seem like an unrelated hodgepodge of compounds, but they've been chosen because they're what i have/will soon have and they're also all extremely cheap. If the urea works out well in the battery, i may have to make this project a meme and attempt to make a z-pinch device with as much urine as possible (use it to make ammonia for the plasma, to make the batteries, and i'm sure there's some way to use urine in a capacitor (maybe just distilling off the water to use as a dielectric? idk, it's been a while since i tried making a capacitor)).

Anyway, i really didn't expect this long trainwreck of a post to end with discussions of urine, but what can you do? This is all probably nonsensical, even by my standards, but basically i want batteries and i think i can make them cheaper per megajoule of stored energy than the ones i could buy, even accounting for the inevitable failed experiments.

November!!!!!

your monthly late post is here! and this time it's for a very special month, by far my favorite month of 2023 (we still have to wait until December though, in this house we play fair and square hahah) hello lads and lasses, hoping all is well wherever you are!

oh boy where do i even start! so November is my bday month, CoIdpIay Jakarta month, and CoIdpIay's first Asia/Oceania leg of Music of the Spheres world tour!!! this post is gonna be yet another long one because so many exciting things happened and i want to retell every juicy detail of them!

first of all, a little heads up, for laying low purposes i'll be censoring a few words (lowercase L changed to uppercase i, etc) so rest assured my keyboard is OK! second of all, if you saw my instagram stories or read my tweets you guys must be wondering why all of a sudden i got to see CoIdpIay in Jakarta when i clearly said i lost the ticketing war and that i will never buy from scalpers?

this is where one of the greatest adventure of my lifetime started. that seemingly contradictive event is solved by a very unexpected turn as a causal effect of something i did without much thinking a long time ago: i signed up for Love Button (LB) voIunteering project! a little bit background story, CoIdpIay have been partnering with a lot of non-government organizations working for environment, social justice, and humanity, where LB is one of them. every single concert show the band will bring along these NGOs to create impact at the cities they visited. the NGOs will then open a call for volunteers asking locals to join in. when CoIdpIay Jakarta was announced around May, even after i knew i can't see the band, i only thought that at least i get to join an activity that is endorsed by the band, brings positivity, and provides help. so i quickly signed up for LB, and as time flew by i kinda forgot about it.

around mid October aka 1,5 months before CoIdpIay Jakarta, i got an email from LB's head coordinator asking for confirmation from the people who've signed up whether they're still interested to volunteer, there were 27 people contacted. i remember immediately replying with a "yes please!!!" because i was just so excited 😂 then a week later another email from LB HQ again asking for confirmation from the ones who are still interested whether we have any idea which Indonesian NGOs LB can work with and would we be able to make it to spare some time for voIunteering project, this time only 19 people were contacted. then at last, around a month before CoIdpIay Jakarta, LB HQ made a WhatsApp group for the remaining 10 people. i remember thinking, "oh, only ten people can make it," which is understandable because usually the volunteering project will be held on d-1/d-day of the CoIdpIay show, where Jakarta's will be on a weekday.

here's when things get a whole lot more interesting! after all ten of us joined the group, LB HQ dropped the surprise: all of us will get a CoIdpIay Jakarta ticket, free of charge, courtesy of the band!!!!!

i remember receiving the news on a Friday during a class (yes i played with my phone during class do not imitate) and wanting to scream and jump and laugh but i couldn't because i was on a Zoom meeting with my cam on 😂 i never expected this to happen and never even dared to imagine this stroke of luck will ever come to me 🥺 until this very second as i type this i still can't fathom how when it's yours it will be yours no matter what. i mean: i remember feeling so dejected after not being able to secure any ticket on three different occasions (BCA presale, general sale, Infinity tickets sale) and knowing so many scalpers and scammers are out there waiting to prey on me, yet! i still get the ticket, there's a way for me to see the band at my home stadium, from a very unexpected source, and without spending any money!? i was over the moon, rejoicing over the news with a coldplay twitter friend who also got selected as one of the volunteers. i couldn't really talk about it since i want to keep it a secret because at that time i didn't exactly have ticket already, so i didn't want to jinx it.

anyways, LB HQ announced the volunteering project will take place d-1 CoIdplay Jakarta. here was when i encountered the first problem: during CoIdplay Jakarta week, i also had a orthodontic seminar happening (LB volunteer on Nov 14, CoIdplay Jakarta on Nov 15 while the seminar was on Nov 14-16) and at first i was heartbroken because initially

(edit: 31/12/2023 - i’m crying i actually have this Nov post almost finished in drafts BUT THEN BAM more uni assignments i procrastinated even more 🥲 so now i’m gonna finish this post lol)

because initially i thought i couldn’t make it given that i have to attend the Jakarta Orthodontist Meeting seminars, but biidznillah it was actually the one thing that made it possible for me to clear my schedule in a way that i don’t have mandatory classes and i can just slip away unnoticed! this is again, one of those times Allah helped me in ways i never expected and He came from unexplainable twists…

so yes, the days leading to Love Button volunteering day and coldplay Jakarta were charged with adrenaline, literally the best kind of wait i’ve ever experienced haha. i remember when November 14th finally came, i was sooo relieved and nervous at the same time i had to force myself to go to sleep the night before and woke up super early. my plan was: the volunteer work was from 7-9 AM and then i’d go straight to Kuningan where the seminar was held. important note is that the seminar started at 8.30 AM so i was late for almost 1.5 hours (i volunteered at Lapangan Banteng Park at Central Jakarta and the seminar was at South Jakarta 🥲) but yeah! the rush to be quick while also enjoying it was so fun! volunteer work was trash collecting with friends from Trash Hero Jakarta and though it was scorching hot i got to finally meet the rest of Love Button vols (that now are my very great friends, we’re seeing each other again for Coldplay Singapore haha) also! Nov 14th night i went to ColdplayXtra’s fan meetup and met even more coldplay friends!!! we had singalongs while having dinner and sharing stories, i could feel the way our love for the band brings us together, it was instant friendship bond made one after another we conversed like we were longtime besties.

next day comes, the main event of the month: coldplay Jakarta d-day!!! oh my god. when i tell you i can’t even describe how magical that day was, please believe me i feel like right now it’s kinda pointless trying to write it down because the range of emotions i feel that night was so diverse and no word can bring it justice 🥹 but i’ll start from the morning, i had to come to the seminar first because i had to scan my barcode for my attendance record, then at 12.30 PM after i ate lunch & did my prayers i went to Fairmont Hotel to exchange my ticket (the tickets for Love Button vols are different than the rest, because we got special seated VIP ones with ‘guest of the artist’ tagged for us!!! 🤩) then after that we crossed over to Gelora Bung Karno stadium complex.

apparently our tickets also have different instructions where we were to enter the stadium complex from a different/sterile gate, so we didn’t queue at all 🥹 got our lightning wristbands and then we took photos, literally hunting for any photobox or photo ops around the complex because we didn’t need to queue to go inside the stadium (since our tickets are seated ones) to pass time. dozens of photos collected, then we sat down and ate our meals as we wait until gates open time. another surprise came: Coldplay reposted Love Button’s instagram post!!! another once-in-a-lifetime bucket list checked: having our faces broadcasted to almost 24M of coldplay’s instagram followers 😂

around 6 PM we were finally allowed to enter the stadium and my oh my. GBK is HUGEEE! i have a very bad depth/distance perception at first i was like, oh this stadium is not that big. but when i finally had a fixed point of reference (it was the pillars above my head lol) i realized just how spacious and gigantic it is! i mean, the capacity is 85,000 people!!! woah and seeing the place getting filled slowly was quite a view. we had Rahmania Astrini as our opener and she was great! her songs are nice and her voice is A+, i suggest checking her out!

9 PM finally arrived and i remember saying to kak Jess how buzzing with surmounting energy i was as we all held our breath for the long awaited opening track signifying the band’s entrance: John William’s E.T’s theme, the Flying Theme!!! as a film score enthusiast i was this close to combust up in flames, two of my favorite things in one go, my heart can only take so much 🥹🥹🥹

then Higher Power started playing, and it began, the show i had been waiting for 9 years… i remember feeling like i ascended to cloud nine, as the stadium lit up with colors and all i could do was sing as loud as my vocal cord allowed me to, jumped up and down in the most literal way because i couldn’t stop moving around to the beat and the rhythm, and just overall trying to gulp down taking in

i don't think i can put into words what i felt during the show, it was simply magical. everything and everyone was so fully energy charged. and i'm so glad i saw the band with nine other Love Button volunteers because they were in the same brain wavelength/frequency as me so it goes without saying it was super duper fun enjoying whatever the band gave us during the show 🥺 best day ever, best early birthday present ever. the friends i met and found along the way are some of the best people i've ever had the precious chance to come across. these memories are to last for a very long time. so huge thank you for @coldplay no words could ever express my gratitude enough 💙

then along came my birthday, and my classmates held a mini celebration for me, though hilariously they admitted it was almost a disaster because they weren't sure the exact date - i'm the walking reminder of the class so it was impossible to ask the bday person what's their bday 😭😂

all in all, November's adventures are full of fun! the fact that the most seemingly impossible things to happen still found its way to happen is mindblowing. it cemented even deeper into my psyche that to trust Allah is to have the best plan ever. i could literally meticulously plan from A to Z but when He decided upon another, that's my path. even until today i still can't believe against all odds, with many conflicting schedules, tight spots, i still made it. with my faith in me, i will have not to worry. this actually soothes my overthinking self better than anything! haha

life is good, alhamdulillah. see you in the December post that i'm also currently writing (lol!) and also in January post that i'll write after i'm back from Singapore, from yet another adventure of a lifetime! 😉
