Click on the cut to see an opinion that would put me in trouble or make you hate me
Look, i am glad Leigh dared to make her first wlw on the first trilogy, pretty early, stood up against the homophobic pricks,i am glad she did that, they deserved it
Like on the real world where unfortunately homophobia is a thing i am glad she did it relatively soon. But…
Narratively speaking (like, getting into the book world and forgetting the real world and it’s impact) after reading Rule of wolves I kind of wish she waited with Tamar’s love interest like she did with Zoya and Adrik for the Nikolai trilogy because I spend so much time wishing Tamar’s love interest was actually Ehri or Mayu (preferably Ehri, yes, Ehri) it would have been so good
And look, I don’t hate Nadia like i used to but she is very lacking and i did my best to like her , i keep asking people unironically to tell me why they love Nadia because i genuinely want to understand what i am missing, what are people seeing that i don’t, some symbolism scaping me, moments i neglected but no one has ever gave me a good answer. The conversations always go like this:
Random person on my comments: I love Nadia
Me: okay, why?
Same person:…who was Nadia again?
So I know completely i am being an ass but…people are not giving me material to stop
Also I am missing the point, the point was that i think Tamar x Ehri had great potential and while of course Leigh ultimately knows her characters better than i ever would, i really feel that would have been a more interesting story

For what it's worth; I will stand by you
The world can burn and crash, but not my love
Summer may end, you'd still belong to me
With care, I will take you

longer quotes under the cut!
"You are Reyem Yul-Kaat's sister, and he still lives."
"But as what? The khergud... The things they endure, they lose their humanity."
Nikolai thought of the demon lurking inside him, the power of it. "Maybe the gift of being human is that we do not give up - even when all hope is lost."
(Rule of Wolves, chapter 12)
--------
"More money, more mayhem, more scores to settle. Was there never another dream?"
He said nothing. What had carved all the hope from his heart? She might never know.
Inej turned to go. Kaz seized her hand, keeping it on the railing. He didn't look at her. "Stay," he said, his voice rough stone. "Stay in Ketterdam. Stay with me."
She looked down at his gloved hand clutching hers. Everything in her wanted to say yes, but she would not settle for so little, not after all she'd been through. "What would be the point?"
He took a breath. "I want you to stay. I want you to... I want you."
(Six of Crows, chapter 42)

Royal teas, secrets and an unexpected love match
closed starter for @braveandunbreakable
Vasily Alexandrovich Lantsov. Crown Prince of Ravka. Future Tsar of a vast sovereign nation. There was nothing he'd lack other than coffers filled with money and an heir. A sort of safety measure in case anything should happen to him. Truthfully his parents had fallen into a panic about the royal lineage. The Lantsov rule must be secured at all cost.
In all honesty, Vasily despised the thought of marrying someone he didn't love. Even if he'd known it was just wishful thinking to hope for a love match, he had done so. He'd believed his father would allow him to choose his queen rather than sell him off to the first highborn princess that had been offered to him. But Vasily wasn't naive. Above all he served Ravka. He did his duty even if said duty meant spending the rest of his life with a woman he didn't love nor cared about.
Ehri Kir-Taban. The second heiress in line for the Shu throne after he sister Makhi. He'd only ever met the Shu royal family at a disastrous ball in Ahmrat Jen - where he'd gotten so drunk he'd called the crown princess as ugly as a toad and had spilled an entire bottle of kvas onto her immaculate dress as well. So much for a peace treaty with Shu Han - he should be happy he hadn't caused another outbreak of war.
Currently, princess Ehri was residing at the Grand palace in Ravka at the invitation of his mother, queen Tatiana. Rumors of his apparent engagement with her had spread fast and far, an alliance between their countries could mean an end to the Fjerdan border wars and a prosperous new trading route.
Earlier, he'd only briefly introduced himself to her and her maid, before his madraya had ushered them off to show them the castle. A servant had been sent to deliver an official invitation to join him for tea - as tradition would have it.
Vasily was nervously tugging at the sleeve of his fine blue military jacket, the fabric braided with glistening gold. He hated every minute of this - the princess hadn't even arrived yet.
Maybe she will try and assassinate me? Anything to get out of this mess.

Runaway Royal (Ketterdam AU)
Queen Keyen Kir-Taban is dead and her dying wish was for Princess Ehri, her second child, to become Queen of Shu Han. But Ehri never wished the throne for herself and so she gives it to Makhi, her older sister. The problem is, Makhi doesn’t have the love of the people. It becomes obvious that, as long as Ehri lives, she will always be a threat to her reign, whether the latter wishes to rule or not.
Ehri is prepared to die but Mayu Kir-Kaat won’t let it happen and betrays her Queen to save Shu Han’s last hope for peace. Ehri just has the time to witness Mayu get stabbed through the heart before she flees the palace (unbeknownst to Ehri, Mayu actually survived and is being held captive until Makhi decides it is the right time to lure her sister back into the country).
She finds refuge in the Barrel of Ketterdam, a place known to nurse fugitives and birth criminals. She subsist on the few crumbs of money she gets from entertaining people on the street with her music and her singing. Eventually, she’s offered a job at the Crow Club and refuses without explanation (because she cannot afford to draw to much attention to herself). One of the Crows is sent to investigate the reasons of that absurd refusal of a perfect opportunity to have a regular income and a much more comfortable life… Who is this Shu girl with impeccable diction and posture and what is she hiding? But, most of all, HOW MANY KRUGE HIDE BEHIND THOSE SECRETS OF HERS?
