OLIC: No Interruptions
A/N: Hi guys! It’s been a minute. I’ve been sitting on this fic for a long time. I wanted to revisit the AU and just do something fun. It was an idea I had bouncing in my head about what if the reader and M’Baku could feel one another’s longing. Enjoy. The reader is black and plussized as always.
Warnings: Smut, smut, smut. Aftercare
M’Baku groaned as someone else walked into his office to discuss another seemingly pressing matter. He watched as they rambled to him about something he tried to deal with a month ago but, the situation kept rearing its ugly head. After he gave his advice and the council member left, M’Baku let his chin drop to his chest as he wondered what you were doing at this moment.
You gasped as one of the elders yanked your arm, pulling you to look at something. Your day had an early start and it seemed to be dragging for a long time. It was well past lunchtime and the only break you had was to feed Tuma. You were tired and hoped you get a nap in at some point today but, your Chieftess duties kept you on your toes.
After you and M’Baku’s honeymoon, you had been submerged in tasks for the Jabari. Sometimes, you had to be left to run everything while M’Baku went to the Golden City to help T’Challa on various things. You both had been tired for weeks. Usually, you’d both would go to bed and wake up at the same time. Recently had been the opposite. By the time M’Baku made it to your room, you were fast asleep and when you woke up, he was gone for the morning. Sometimes, you’d see each other in passing through the halls and you couldn’t remember when you last had dinner together.
You missed the warm feeling you gave each other. You only got it when you thought about each other. How could you go so long without each other? Though that was often, it was nothing compared to actually being together. You missed all of it. No soft kisses, no longing hugs, no words of admiration and definitely no lovemaking.
You had been so deprived of each other that you were sure you’d fall apart in M’Baku’s arms after just one kiss. You wanted a day to be in bed with him. Just lounging around, barely dressed and not having to worry about attending to anything in the village. Just you and him, pretending like you were the only two in the world at the time.
M’Baku grumbled as he sat back in his chair after an impromptu meeting with two elders. He bidded them a good day. He found himself thinking of you again and instantly there was a warmth in his chest. He closed his eyes for a moment, biting his lip. He envisioned you underneath him and arms wrapped around him. He wanted to hear his name on your lips. He wanted to bury deep inside you that he wasn’t sure he’d come out. M’Baku wanted you on top of him, your hips gliding against his. He wanted to massage your breasts and be the reason you’d wake up disheveled the next day. He wanted you in every position he could put you in.
You whimpered, clutching your thighs. You felt this pool forming in your core. You felt this urge that you knew was coming from M’Baku. Like an animal, you wanted to seek him out and display yourself for him. You couldn’t concentrate anymore as you sat down as one of the female elders rambled. You had a mighty need for your husband.
“Alright Lady Y/N. I think we’re done for the day.” The elder said.
Your ears perked up and suddenly she had your attention again. “Yes?”
“Yes, madam. Thank you for your patience with me today.” She said.
“Oh, no. Thank you.” You said as you escorted her out. You watched her walk down the hallway. You waved one of your maidens toward you. “If anyone asks, I’m not available for the rest of the day. No exceptions.”
The young girl nodded. You quickly took off, your dress whipping around you as you made your way to M’Baku’s office. Your need got greater and the heat in your chest seemed to drop to your lower stomach. You couldn’t walk fast enough to get to the double doors.
M’Baku’s head dropped back as he palmed himself through his skirt. He bit his lip but, jolted up. He was ready to be embarrassed but, found himself surprised as you walked in. You immediately shut the doors before going to his desk. He leaned forward, kissing you and cupping your face. You moved one of the chairs out of the way, getting on top of the desk. You placed your hands on M’Baku’s chest as you settled on your heels.
M’Baku broke the kiss to fumble with his belt. You swung your legs over, pulling up your dress and struggling to get your panties off. “I need you.” You said. “We need to make this quick.”
“Oh, but I want to savor this.” He said. M’Baku grabbed the back of your knees. You were already so wet for him. He hummed as he lapped at your folds. You let out a hushed moan as he circled your clit.
“M’Baku, I need you.” You said. M’Baku quickly came up his member free. He stroked himself twice before sliding inside you. You both fought not to grunt. M’Baku laid you on his desk as he slowly started to stroke. You kissed him as you wrapped your legs around him.
You began to hear knocking on the door. “Lord M’Baku, sir. May I speak with you for a moment?” an elder said.
M’Baku mouthed a curse as he slowed his movements. “Busy.” He said.
“M’Baku, keep going.” You whispered.
“Sir?” they said again knocking on the door.
“Come back later.” He said as he tried picking up the pace. You gave out a breathy moan. M’Baku tried to hush you as his member dragged along your walls.
“Sir, I believe we could take care of this now.” They said.
M’Baku growled both at the elder and the pleasure he was getting from being inside you. The elder began to knock again. “It has to wait!” M’Baku said. He leaned in kissing you before having to pull away.
“Lord M’Baku, it’s a tad urgent.” They said.
You grimaced as you tried to keep M’Baku focused on you. Their knocking persisted and with a shaking of the door handle, M’Baku was prompted to slide out of you. You gasped as you pulled off the desk. Your dress fell over your legs and M’Baku fixed his clothing. He picked your panties off the floor, putting them in a nearby drawer. The elder opened the door and began to step in. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know the Chieftess was in.”
“You were asked to wait.” You said with a snarl.
“My apologies but, I need to speak with the Chief. I’m afraid it’s important.” They said. M’Baku took a deep breath. A hand touched the small of your back as he kissed your forehead. You looked at him, still wanting for him. The affectionate gesture did nothing to quell any of your desires.
“I’ll be sure to get in early tonight, my love.” He said. You didn’t want to leave the office but, the look in his eye and this wanting feeling told you all you needed to know.
You leaned up to give a kiss to M’Baku that went a tad bit longer than intended. As you left the room, giving a glare to the elder before shutting the doors behind you.
M’Baku walked out of the throne room where the last meeting of the day was held with Kaseko giving him updates. “And that’s all.”
“Good. Do me a favor. Pass a message along. I and my wife are not to be disturbed at all tonight. Unless it is an extreme emergency, no one and absolutely no one should come by our chambers tonight.” He said in a stern voice.
Kaseko chuckled. “Sure, brother.”
M’Baku turned the corner to get your room and found the doors closed. He opened them slowly and found you on the bed, completely naked. M’Baku shut the doors behind him as he marveled at you. You laid across the bed, your eyes enticing him. He shed each article of clothing as he got further into the room, not breaking eye contact from you.
“I intend to finish what I started.” He said. M’Baku was left in his shorts. You sat on your knees to meet him. He immediately pulled you into a kiss. You moaned in his mouth as his hands gripped your ass. He pulled away. “And I intend to take my time. We are going to make up for all the lost moments.”
You gasped as M’Baku forced your down. Your legs automatically spread for him as he leaned on the bed. You watched him, biting your lip. You moaned as M’Baku’s tongue made a long drag against you. You clutched the sheets as M’Baku flicked and sucked tenderly on your clit. M’Baku hummed into you, making you gasp.
“M’Baku!” you moaned.
“I know you’ve needed me, yam ivu.” He said. “I’ve needed you, too.” Your eyes fluttered as his tongue explored your folds. Your fingers pulled on his hair, pushing his face into you. His hands gripped your thighs like a hungry man gripped a plate of food. You yelped as you felt a finger creep inside you. It curved and hooked, grazing your g-spot. M’Baku pumped his finger in and out of you. You began to squirm, your back arching as you twisted. M’Baku planted wet kisses on your clit as he looked up at you. Your walls clenched and squeezed around his thick digit as you felt your undoing. You shuddered as you came. M’Baku pulled away but, kept your lips spread to see his good work.
Your arms wrapped around M’Baku’s neck as he got on top of you. You hummed as you brought into a kiss. You wrapped your legs around him as your hands roamed his chest. “I need you inside me.” You moaned. “Please, M’Baku.”
“My wife never has to beg.” He said. M’Baku prepared to enter you until there was a knock at the door. His nostrils flared as he looked up. He got off you, fishing his shorts from the floor and messily, putting them on, but his erection was very much prominent through the thin fabric.
The guard stood at the door and was startled when it opened so violently. His eyes widened at the look on his Lord’s face. M’Baku’s eyes had frustration in them, his jaw clenched and his breath heavy. The guard’s eyes traveled down and his face grew warm as M’Baku’s shorts left little to the imagination.
“Sir, I’m sorry.” The guard said.
“I’m trying to please my wife. Something I haven’t done in a long time. She has been without me for too long and vice versa. Now you come to our chambers and interrupt us? Even after the order was given for us to not be disturbed. You’d have me leave my wife and fail at my duties as a husband? Why are you here?” M’Baku said.
“Sir, I was just…” he started.
“Leaving.” M’Baku said.
The guard nodded leaving from the doorway and bidded the other guards standing watch a good night. You crept up behind M’Baku as he shut the door. He whipped around and picked you up. M’Baku walked you from the door and back to the bed.
You brought him into a kiss as you pushed his shorts down. M’Baku wrapped your legs around him before sliding inside you. You moaned in his mouth as he started to stroke inside you. You wanted to mesh into the covers as M’Baku rolled his hips into you.
M’Baku kissed along your neck, whispering in your ear. You scratched along his back making him hiss. Your walls clenched around him, spasmodically. “M’Baku, I’ve missed you.” You said in between moans.
“I know, yam ivu. We have all night.” He said.
Both of you moaned and cried through M’Baku’s strokes. You fixated your sight on the ceiling as M’Baku clutched the sheets as he plowed into you. You were left to do nothing but hold on. Your walls squeezed around him and soon you were shuddering. “M’Baku, I’m about to cum.” You cried.
“For me, my love. Cum for me.” He groaned. You bit your lip and a muffled scream let you as you came. M’Baku continued to stroke, his own member twitching. You gave high pitched squeaks as M’Baku’s hips were beating against you. M’Baku went stiff as he shot inside you.
You kept M’Baku on top of you for a moment as you both came down. M’Baku sat up, pulling out of you. His member coated in the product of the both of you. You rolled on your side, trying to collect yourself. M’Baku cupped your face to kiss you. You pulled away, a slight giggle leaving your lips.
“I said, we had all night, my love.” M’Baku hummed. “And I meant it.”
You screamed as you pushed your face into the mattress. You didn’t understand why you didn’t believe M’Baku when he said all night. You lost count of the number of orgasms you had and you had no idea what time it was. All you knew was that M’Baku was draining you while draining himself. You had no idea what time it was. You grunted as M’Baku held your hips up as he plowed into you. You could easily hear the squish as he entered and pulled out of you.
“M’Baku, fuck.” You cried.
His response was a groan that sounded like it belonged to an animal. Your eyes rolled the back of your head as he reached around, drawing circles on your clit. Your feet curled and you started to lose the arch in your back. M’Baku paused, pressing a hand down on the small of your back. You whimpered, regaining your form and letting him plow into you.
M’Baku’s head lifted to the ceiling. You groaned and gasped as you felt the pressure tightening in your stomach. Your legs spasmed and you gripped the blanket so hard, you’d tear it. You screamed as you came. M’Baku collapsed on top of you as he came. He kissed your shoulder as you came out to be a whining mess. You were both coated in cum and sweat. M’Baku felt that you were weak. You needed rest.
M’Baku pulled out of you and quickly ran you a warm bath added salts for relaxation and fragrance, plus something to take the soreness away. He came back to retrieve you. You tried to stand yourself but, your legs gave out, letting you drop. M’Baku caught you with a chuckle.
“Don’t laugh.” You whined jokily.
“It’s fine, yam ivu.” He said. M’Baku lifted you up and carried you to the bath, setting you in and getting in behind you. You rested your head on his chest, slouching a bit. M’Baku used the sponge to clean you off and you returned the favor, twist to help him bathe. Your eyes were low with lust and exhaustion. The warmth that resonated in you both seemed to be stuck.
M’Baku laid you on the bed, draping the blankets over you. He cuddled in next to you. You found the energy to push yourself against him. Sleep came easy as your eyes closed once.
You stirred as there was a knock on the door. M’Baku opened his eyes and gave an exasperated groan. You both waited and there was a knock again. “Let’s keep pretending, yam ivu.” He said.
“M’Baku, just answer it.” You said.
M’Baku growled as he struggled to get out of the bed. He pulled shorts from the drawer, hurriedly putting them on. The knock hit the door again. “Alright! Alright, damn it.” He said. M’Baku shuffled to the door. He opened it a tad, careful to not show you. “Yes?”
“Good morning, sir.” The aide said. “I was sent to tell you that council has canceled for the day and there is nothing else on your schedule today.”
M’Baku fought to not smile. “So nothing at this time?”
“No, Lord M’Baku.” The aide said. He looked over his shoulder at you. You both smiled at each other. There was tickle in your chest, mischief and whimsy.
“Do us two favors. Send for my son and have him brought to us. Tell the kitchen we’ll be having breakfast in here for the morning.” M’Baku said.
“As you wish.” The aide said, bowing and leaving.
M’Baku shut the door and dashed over to the bed. You laughed as M’Baku jumped on the bed and on top of you, kissing your forehead. “M’Baku, stop.” You laughed as he kissed your neck.

Werther’s Caramel
Winston Duke x Black PlusSized Reader
Another #supersizedfic mini. I know nothing about taking a flight so hopefully I got some descriptions right. Though there isn’t many. This was inspired by the tweet below and the initial idea for the fic has been sitting to collect dust until a hour or so ago. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Intercom speakers, commercials from televisions, and blended conversations fought against one another for dominance. Hundreds of tiny wheels moved in a non-synced dance, following behind their owners. Keeping up as best they can as if they were small children with a long legged guardian. The hustle and hassle of the airport was busier this evening than anyone had expected. A small crowd of people were stationed near your designated area, waiting to board the plane that would take them to the peaceful destination of their choice.
An airpod rested in your ear as you waited for your turn to get onto the large aircraft. The soft voice of Sza waltzing through your ear canal. Wiggling your toes against your slides, you could faintly see the white polish they held from the thin fabric of your neon purple socks. "Have a great flight." An attendant spoke out to no one in particular, more likely saying it because it was her job. You flashed a small smile as you walked through the single door and behind the people in line ahead of you.
Aside from accidentally being shoulder checked with someones bag as you passed, it was a smooth transition to your seat. You sat in the window seat, opening the small cover to see the lot of the airport. A few workers moved about quickly as they did they're jobs. Taking a deep breath you relaxed against the seat and smiled. You deserved a break, and you didn't mind having to take it alone. Movement to your eyes brought your attention to your seat mate, you assumed before he confirmed it by putting his carry-on over head. He stood tall, with broad shoulders and toned arms that matched his physique really well. His eyes never met yours but you didn't mind the extra moments to admire him.
Dark gray Nike shorts covered his equally toned thighs. He didn't miss a leg day, you were certain. His matching sweatshirt hid the thin chain he wore around his neck but you could definitely make it out from the light hitting it when he moved around. Once he took a seat and adjusted with the little leg space granted to him, he happened to look over to you. He smiled and your heart skipped a beat. A small gap caught your eye. "Hi, how are you? I’m Winston." His voice sent a tingle over your body as you replied politely with your name.
Nothing more was said once he nodded at your response and you went back to your window view. You moved your focus to turning you phone to airplane mode, happy when a third person didn't come to separate you and the handsome giant. Flight attendants began to head towards the front for their usual instructions and you half listened to their words. Having heard them a few times before.
Though you were relaxed and comfortable with the flight experience, not everyone was as experienced. You looked over at the tense male beside you, seeing him take deep breaths as the flight attendants continued their live action tutorial. He rested against the cushioned seat with a grip to the arm rests on either side of him. A small smile caught your lips before you knew it. First time flyer.
You went into your fanny pack, searching for the golden wrappers that always had a home in your purse. "Want a caramel?" Your voice was soft and easing, catching his attention despite the distraction up front. He looked to the candy in your hand before he looked back at you. "It'll help you relax a bit. You look a little stressed."
Contemplating a moment more, he accepted the offering and watched you pop one in your mouth before following your action. “Thanks.” He enjoyed the candy before he gave a nervous chuckle. “It’s that obvious, huh..”
You gave a soft laugh, nodding. “Yeah. With the death grip you have on those poor armrests..” Turning your body towards him as well as you could, you gave him a genuine smile. “I was the same way my first trip, and I was solo. These bad boys helped a little along with the grip I had on the armrests.”
“Ok..” He chuckled a little, loosening his grip on them. “I guess I didn’t realize how much I’m afraid of heights.” You could still see a little uneasiness in his posture so you became the support you’d wanted in your nervous moment. Holding out a hand, you offered your support.
“If anybody asks I’ll tell them I’m a little nervous.” You winked, teasing. He laughed at that as he accepted your hand. A small squeeze to his hand made him relax more with a slow breath. “There you go.”
He spoke you name after a small moment of silence between you both. You acknowledged him with a friendly, “Yes?”. “Do you mind if I have another one of those caramels?”
Laughing, you took out two and handed them to him. “I told you they’d help.”
Your daughter let out a laugh, stopping her current task of stirring the noodles. “Mama, there ain’t no way daddy was scared of flying.” She sigh happily, shaking her head. “All we do is travel now.”
You grinned. “I got him into it, hunny. We decided to spend that trip together since we were both alone. Going to restaurants and tours together..” The memories of the trip flashed through your mind in pieces. “He took me back there to propose a year later, actually. We got married once we came back and brought two beautiful children into the world, you and your brother.”
“Awww. How come you’ve never told me this story before? I just figured you liked the candy a lot.” She smiled. Her focus going back to the food.
“I do. They’re my favorite.” You laughed, moving about the kitchen with ease. “I just happened to bag you father with them.” Winking, you both giggled at the fact.
"What y'all in here gossiping about?" Winston entered into the room, kissing your daughters forehead before he came to you. Slipping his hands around your waist, he smiled.
"Nothing, just telling her a story from the past.. You want a caramel?" You held up the gold wrapper from your apron pocket. He smiled, accepting the candy with a smile. Pecking your cheek as he thanked you and went back to check on your son. You and your daughter looked to each other once he left the room before laughing loudly.

Behave
A/N: I’ve been holding onto this fic for a very long time and I think it’s time I throw this one in. Hope you like it. @muse-of-mbaku served as a bit of an inspiration for this.
Warnings: pure, unmitigated smut. Spanking, slight degradation, bondage. Brat/brat tamer-esque
“Y/N, listen to me!” M’Baku said, following after you.
“No!” you growled. You were fed up, lips pressed, fists clenched and skin hot. You burst into your quarters in the Jabari palace. “You continue to treat me like a child as if I’m not supposed to be your equal. You aren’t going to do it anymore. I won’t be pushed aside, ignore, overruled, and disregarded until you feel the need to want me!”
“Y/N.” M’Baku growled.
“No! I’m not letting you get your say!” you said. “You aren’t going to talk over me. I’m not one of the council members who came to bicker with you so you’ve decided to bark your way out of hearing what they have to say.”
M’Baku rolled his eyes and watched you rant and rave. “Y/N…”
“I’m not done, M’Baku!” you said. “This is exactly what I’m talking about! You don’t value me. I’m just a play thing for you. You married me only to just keep me here.”
“Y/N.” M’Baku said, annoyed.
“Just because you are chief of the Jabari and have dominion over the Jabari people doesn’t make you head gorilla over everything including my life!” You said.
M’Baku violently backed you into the wall, making you gasp. You glared into his eyes, seeing the anger that had built up from your words. You clearly struck a few nerves with your words as his nostrils flared and his jaw was clenched.
“You must have forgotten your position, little one.” M’Baku said. You looked up at him with wide eyes, but not in fear but arousal. You knew that when M’Baku spoke in this tone that you had done something wrong and the very idea of the punishment he had to deal sent your head spinning. Your entrance was already moistened at the thought. This was the game you loved playing with him. Beneath the surface of your relationship with M’Baku, past being his wife and friend, you loved whoring for him. Annoying him, prying and doing little aggravating things to get him to top you. You loved doing it and M’Baku loved reacting to it. Even when you did it unintentionally, you both took pride in this little game. “Do I need to remind you where your place is?”
“M’Baku, I…” you started.
“Excuse me?” M’Baku said in a dark tone, furrowing his brows at you.
You swallowed the lump in your throat and stared back at him. “Sir, I’m sorry.”
“Words mean nothing to me now, little one.” M’Baku said. His grip on your arms loosened as he stepped away from you. You stood still against the wall as M’Baku moved to the front of the room to the cushioned bed chest. M’Baku opened it and and pulled out a leather paddle. You bit your lip, looking at him in anticipation. M’Baku walked up to you, pointing the tool in your direction. “Look at you. You scream your pretty little head off, rattle my cage. You wanted this. If I didn’t know any better, little one, I say you’ve been spoiled.”
You let out a stifled moan as the cool leather corner glided across the skin of your neck. Your head pressed into the wall, your palms getting sweaty. “M’Baku…”
“Little one.” M’Baku scowled.
“Sir, let me apologize to you properly.” You said.
“Oh, you will.” He said. “Start by dropping your clothes. Now.”
You wasted little time, coming out of your clothes. Shedding each layer with a quickness as M’Baku’s eyes feasted upon you. However, he was very good at hiding how pleased he was with the show. You still stood before him, clenching your thighs in arousal and trying to talk your own body out of touching yourself and possibly increasing the degree of your punishment. M’Baku walked backwards, motioning you along. Once his legs made contact with the bed, he sat down.
“What are your safe words?” M’Baku said.
“Wood to slow down. Snow to stop.” You recited.
“Across my lap.” M’Baku said.
You hurried, laying across M’Baku’s lap. Your ass exposed to him as you braced your hands on the floor. Without warning, the paddle made contact with your right cheek. You pressed your lips together to stop the yelp you would have let out.
“Is this not what you wanted?” he said. “Yes or no.”
“Yes.” You said.
“Yes, what?” M’Baku said bringing the paddle back down on your cheek.
“Yes, sir.” You said fighting the yelp.
“You wanted to make me mad. You were seeking out punishment.” M’Baku said. M’Baku brought the paddle down again, making you jump. You placed your hands on the floor trying to balance yourself but, it was like M’Baku was purposeful trying to force you out his lap.
“Sir, please. I’m sorry.” You moaned, the sting from the beginning of your punishment welling up.
“You can’t talk your way out of this, little one.” M’Baku said. “I thought this was what you wanted. Be a big girl for me. 5 more.”
You nodded and prepared yourself as the paddle came back against you with a pop. You hissed as you fought the pain but, still found pleasure in it. You arched your back a bit and felt the lips of your pussy getting wetter. M’Baku watched you fight to control yourself and thought about how he tried you well with taking the paddle. “Are you pleased with yourself?” M’Baku asked you as he delivered another strike.
“Yes, sir.” You moaned with a hint of cockiness in your voice.
“You think you’ve won over me. You think you can manipulate me now?” M’Baku asked as your shoulders tensed up as the paddle came back again. You heard the darkness in his tone, you felt his eyes burning a hole into the back of your head. You racked your brain for a response but, you couldn’t find the words. Displeased with you not answering him, M’Baku delivered a hard smack making you let out a yelp. You heard him let out a chuckle. “Don’t worry, little one. I’m going to teach you how to behave.”
You looked back at him and saw the devious smile and the paddle lift higher. You bit your lip as you watched it came back against you. Your toes curled as you jolted forward, fighting against the strength of M’Baku to stay in his lap. You couldn’t give up so easily even though the goal of this was for M’Baku to win.
Finally, the last strike of the paddle came and you held your breath. You sighed pleased with yourself as you rubbed your thighs together, biting your lip at your already quivering entrance. The sting on your plump ass made you even hotter.
“Up.” M’Baku ordered. You rose to your feet and watched M’Baku hungrily. “On the bed, how I taught you.”
You crawled on the bed, getting into the position. You kept your cheek to the mattress, hands by your head, ass in the air with your knees holding you up. You heard M’Baku move around the room and again you heard the creak of the chest. Your breath quickened in anticipation. You wanted so badly to touch yourself but, you knew what M’Baku had to give would be much better so, you remained still.
It wasn’t long before you heard the chest close and M’Baku’s heavy footsteps. “Give me your arms.” He said. You moved your arms back behind you, offering them to M’Baku. He roughly grabbed them, making you gasp. You felt the silk sash being wrapped around your wrists and it got tighter with each time it looped around your wrists.
“Is it too tight, little one?” M’Baku said.
“No.” you moaned.
With one final pull, the sash tightened to it’s full potential and you felt the knot being put in. “Good.” You felt the sudden stretch of two fingers digging into you. You moaned and squirmed, losing the arch in your back. “Get back into position.”
You licked your lips, getting control back and arching your back again. M’Baku’s fingers slid out of you, earning a moan from you. Your walls contracted needing to feel something back against them. You felt M’Baku lean over you and he presented his fingers to you. “Taste yourself, little one.” You took his long fingers into your mouth, moaning at your own taste. You sucked his fingers more, closing your eyes and envisioning his hard member deep in your throat, your mouth watering even more at the memory.
“That’s enough.” He ordered. You pulled away, obediently but looking up at him. “Tell me what I want to hear, little one.”
“Sir, I want you.” You said. “I want you deep inside me.”
“Why? I don’t think you deserve it. You’ve been terrible all day. Having me inside you would be a reward. And your behavior…tsk tsk. Unacceptable.” M’Baku said. You squirmed your body becoming demanding.
“Please. I need it. I promise I’ll be good. Just this once. Don’t you see how wet am I?” you moaned.
M’Baku lifted off you and grazed his fingertip along the length of you. He drew circles on your clit making you jolt forward. Your toes flexed as you fought the urge to back into him. He pushed his middle finger into you, slightly hooking it so it would graze your g-spot. You shuddered, letting out a moan. You dug your face into the mattress, trying to muffle your moans. You started to spread your legs even more, even slacking in your arch.
“I’m not going to tell you again, little one.” M’Baku scolded. “Keep your position or do you need some help?” You felt the leather of the paddle and immediately straightened up even though the thought of the paddle only aroused you more. M’Baku pumped his fingers in and out of you. You contracted around him, squeezing his fingers, demanding more force. He added two more fingers, filling you up and watching you cream on his thick, long digits. Your breath became labored as you moaned into the comforter. You felt your release coming and you mentally prepared yourself. You tightened around his fingers, finally turning your head to let out the load moan you had building up. You suddenly let his fingers rip from you. You craned your neck to like at him with confusion in your eyes. Your core felt empty, warm and wet but with no release.
“Why do you look so shocked?” M’Baku chuckled. “You thought I’d let you come? Ha, no.”
“M’Baku!” you cried. You yelped as the paddle cracked across your ass.
“I told you that you were going to learn how to behave. Even if it takes us all night, little one.” M’Baku said.
“Please, I’m sorry.” You cooed. “I’ll behave. I’ll behave like you want. I just want you, I need you.”
“Begging? I think I like when you beg. Do it again.” M’Baku said with clear amusement in his voice.
“Sir, please. Today I was terrible but, I won’t do it again. I’ll never disobey you anymore. Please, I just need you. I need you inside me.” You said. You went so far as to arch yourself more and spreading your legs. You wagged your ass as if you were dog. “Please.”
M’Baku sighed as if he was disappointed in you but, he shrugged. “Very well.” He said. You heard the clack of his buckled as he shed the bottom half of his clothing. He stroked his hard member before positioning himself behind you. You felt his tip drag over you. You moaned as you anticipated how it would feel inside you. His girth stretching you as he’d dive into you. You wiggled slightly, needing and trying to encourage him. One of M’Baku’s massive hands pressed on the small of your back, holding you in place for him. Just as you expected, he shoved himself into you no care if his action would cause you pain as you loved it regardless.
M’Baku’s thrusts were rough and powerful. You grunted as each punishing stroke hit you and drove you further into your orgasm. You tried pulling on your restraints but, they kept you bound. You whimpered as M’Baku gripped your hips. His thumbs digging into your back, daring to bruise them.
“Sir.” You gasped as you clenched around him. He ignored you as he grunted above you, his eyes fixed on your face contorting in a mix of bliss and lust. M’Baku leaned in, taking a fist full of your hair and pulling you up. You cried as there was now a somewhat unwelcomed twist in your spine.
“You think you are in control here. You aren’t. You forgot who you belong to. You forgot our rules.” He huffed.
“I haven’t.” you whined. “I promise.” M’Baku’s hips crashed into you unrelentingly. It wasn’t the sweet, sensual movements of your lovemaking. It almost felt like he hated you and only made you hotter. Your hands rolled into fists, your nails piercing your palms almost. M’Baku realized your mess of coils and leaned over you. This angle letting him hit you deeper.
“Fuck!” you cried as your toes curled. You squeezed around him with every stroke. You wanted him to empty himself inside you. You wanted your cup to run over. You wanted to be left on the mattress senseless for him to gather you, bring you back to reality, only for him to break you again.
M’Baku started to shudder. He noted that he didn’t have long. Part of him wanted to prolong your correction but, another part was ready to unload. Then again, he knew better. He knew what you wanted. You weren’t going to win totally. M’Baku pulled on the sash that tied your wrists together, pulling you up.
You winced at the stretch in your shoulders as he leaned in to whisper in your ear. “You will never disrespect me in this way ever again. Do you understand?”
“Yes, sir.” You said.
“You will remember your place when you speak to me. Otherwise, I will use that mouth of yours until your voice can only come out as a croak.” M’Baku said. Your response only came out as a cry and he smacked you on your ass again. He let you drop back on the bed like a dead fish. You shook slightly.
“Sir, I’m coming!” you cried. M’Baku kept his pace as you gave a high pitched squeak as you came. You gave guttural noises as he chased his own orgasm inside you. He wanted until the very last moment to rip himself from you, throwing you on your back and positioning himself just above your chest. Hot streams of cum hit your face. You gasped as the spurts hit your lips and part of your eye. M’Baku stroked himself, making sure to give you every drop. You kept one eye shut as you looked up at him. You licked your lips tasting him as he marveled at you. You both remained like that, catching your breath. Tension and lust cleared the air, letting you both know that it was over now.
M’Baku got off the bed and going to the bathroom. You heard the tub running and rummaging through cabinets. He came back later with a wet towel to clean you off, tenderly. He lifted you up, untying you. You looked up at him to see a softness in his eyes. His aggressions and frustrations were gone and the sweet loving husband had returned. He carried you to the massive bathtub that was now full of water and bubbles and fragrance wafting from it.
You were slowly placed into the warm water with M’Baku getting in behind you. You laid against his chest, soaking. Your eyes felt heavy as M’Baku’s fingers drew soft circles on your shoulders. You enjoyed the tender moments after he was rough with you. It made it all the better. He held you close, cradling you, showing you how precious you were to him.
Later, he pulled the sheets over both of you. Your arm was lazily thrown over his broad chest as he had his own arm wrapped around you.
“I love you.” You said.
“I love you, too.” He said.

Our Love In Color XXV
A/N: I love you guys so much for supporting this story. Reader is black and plussized
Warnings: Smut, smut, smut
“What?” one of the maids said in the laundry room as she folded a sheet. She looked over at her friend who was holding in laughs as she brought out the next load of linens.
“I know you know.” The young woman said.
“Know what?” she said, folding a pillowcase.
“Know that our Chief and Chieftess have been busy like rabbits.” Her friend said.
“Sssh.” The other maid said. “Someone will hear you.”
“Anyone that works here knows. They aren’t exactly quiet people.” The woman said, bringing the basket over. “It’s clear that our Chief is a great lover.”
Her friend hit her shoulder as she giggled. She looked around before leaning in to whisper. “I may or may not have seen the Chieftess leaving their bedroom…with a slight limp in her stride.” They covered their mouths to hide their laughter.
The maids went around before they left for the night, placing fresh towels and sheets in the cabinets. Of course, their first stop was the Chief’s room. “I heard from my love, Ige, that they really can’t keep their hands off each other. Always diving into each other when they get a free moment.”
“Well, I suppose we’ll find the evidence of that if…” the maids stopped their gossip as the large double doors opened. You walked in first, holding a small potted plant to place on the dresser closest to the door. M’Baku walked in behind you and immediately went over to the couch, taking off his shoes. The maids noticed the long glances you gave each other. They looked to each other, holding in laughs.
“We’ve supplied all the linens.” The young woman said. “Would you be needing anything else?”
M’Baku looked back over at you, a smile creeping over his face. “I think we’ll manage.” You tucked your lips in fighting a smile. You walked over to the wooden chest that sat in front of the bed, sitting on it. You acted as if you were stretching but, you were slyly undoing your corset.
“Well, good night.” The other maid said, fighting a snicker.
They exited the room, slowly closing the heavy doors behind them. As they did, they caught a peek of M’Baku coming over to you and lifting you up and pushing you onto the mattress as your top came loose.
“I know you saw.” A guard said as he turned the corner with his patrol buddy.
“Saw what?” his friend said.
“The scratches on Lord M’Baku’s back during this morning’s training.” The guard said. “And you know they aren’t from sparring.”
The guard looked around as they headed outside to patrol the grounds. “I may have noticed.”
They chuckled as they walked down the path. “It’s clear they like to rut as if they are in heat.”
His friend hushed him as they rounded the corner. They saw you and M’Baku walking and you stopped abruptly. You balanced on your toes, whispering something in his ear. The guards watched M’Baku’s eyebrows lift and his jaw dropped. You laughed as M’Baku’s reaction was to put you over his shoulder and walk you back into the compound.
You moaned as M’Baku kissed along the back of your neck. You turned and watched him, run his fingers over your spine. Though the both of you were covered in sweat from the first round of lovemaking, you couldn’t part from each other. “M’Baku.” You moaned.
“My love.” He responded, a hand on your side. You turned over on your back, letting M’Baku crawl on top of you. “Why is every time with you so much sweeter than the last?”
You smiled, cupping his face. “Maybe, it’s just us.” You said. He planted a passionate kiss on your lips. M’Baku pulled away marveling at you in the dim lighting of the room. “I want to try something.”
“Oh?” M’Baku said, raising his eyebrows.
You surprised him, keeping your thighs to his side and shifting his weight and yours to flip him over. You straddled him at first. You left a trail of kisses from his lips all the way to his pelvis. You took his member into your hand, stroking him. M’Baku grunted softly as your wet tongue dragged along his length. You took him into your mouth, relaxing your jaw. You bobbed up and down on him, letting him harden in your mouth. M’Baku’s chest would rise and fall as his heels dug into the mattress. You made eye contact with him as you found your rhythm, stroking and sucking him. You took your mouth off of him, spreading your saliva over his length.
M’Baku grunted, gripping the sheets as he reached full erect. You took to breathing through your nose as your mouth was full. You didn’t try to push your limit, taking your time. You began to moan, sending vibrations through M’Baku. He started to arch his own back but, resorted to watching you. His thick fingers tangled themselves in your curls. You would squeeze your hand around him slightly as you twisted. You pulled away from him, swirling your tongue around his tip.
“Y/N…” he said, breathy and weak. You pulled away from him. He was now full hard and covered in a mix of precum and your saliva. You straddled him again, slowly, making him watch you. You leaned down, kissing him. He gripped the back of your neck, keeping you there.
You pulled away as you positioned yourself directly over his member. As if M’Baku could read your mind, he held himself steady as you sank down on him. You moaned as you clutched around him. You kept your pelvis to his and your hands on his chest. M’Baku’s hands found their place on your hips as you rocked into him.
You moaned as you instantly had a rhythm, rolling your hips back and forth. M’Baku grunted beneath you. “Oh, Y/N.” M’Baku groaned. You moved your hips faster as your head lifted to the ceiling. M’Baku watched your large breasts bounce, making him lick his lips. He massaged them, slightly pinching your nipples. You looked back down at him, making eye contact with him. You both had this heat in your chests. It was raising and drawing you both to your orgasm.
Your nails started to dig into M’Baku’s skin, making him hiss. “Yes.” He growled. Your walls contracted and relaxed around him. M’Baku was fighting to remain still as he moaned beneath you. You both had become extremely vocal, filling the room with your moans. “You’re going to make me cum, Y/N.”
You leaned back in, kissing him. There was a mix of tender pecks and loving, tongue kisses. M’Baku cursed as he twitched inside of you. You tightened around him as you dragged yourself on him. Your hips coming up and back down. His hands gripped your wide hips. Fingertips glided over each roll and curve. M’Baku gripped your ass, smacking it as it jiggled. You giggled through your moans. M’Baku started to struggle against you. He held you close as he prepared for his orgasm.
“M’Baku.” You moaned as you gave your last movements. One last strong pump against him caused you to erupt. M’Baku lifted his hips shooting into you as he yelled. You collapsed on his chest, taking deep breaths as you rode out your orgasm. M’Baku’s hands rested on your back as he sighed. You moaned making small movements.
“Did you enjoy that?” you asked.
M’Baku chuckled. “Yam ivu, you are amazing.” You chuckled as you planted a kiss on his lips. His hands glided up into your hair, massaging your scalp. You thought you’d get to doze off but, M’Baku started to shift. Your eyes opened as M’Baku turned you over. Your back was now on the mattress. M’Baku kissed you passionately. You moaned in his mouth as his hands trailed up and down your body. His hands grasped the back of your knees pulling them up. Your brows furrowed and you let out a light gasp at the stretch you felt.
M’Baku broke the kiss, trying to focus on bringing his hips to yours. He dragged his member over your wet entrance. You moaned, placing your hands on the headboard. M’Baku slid back inside you. He immediately rolled his hips, looking down and watching himself slide in and out of you. “M’Baku.” You moaned. M’Baku’s pace picked up, colliding into you. He kept your legs up. Your head pressed into the pillows as your nails scratched against the wood.
Your eyes rolled as M’Baku hit your g spot with each stroke. This position trapped you under him. You could only clutch the sheets as M’Baku fucked into you. M’Baku looked at you, ecstasy on both your faces. “Look at me.” He said.
You followed his request with a whine. Your hands flew to his shoulders as he leaned into you, pushing your legs up more. You didn’t break eye contact with him as he wrapped his arms around the backs of your knees, pinning you. You screamed as M’Baku scooted up and now had more leverage on you. His entire length dragged against you. You frantically moved your hands from scratching his shoulders, pushing on his pelvis and around his neck. “M’Baku! Ah!” you said.
M’Baku grunted animalistically as his hips met yours with a constant slapping. You cried as he leaned in, his breath against your skin. Tears rolled down the sides of your face as you became overwhelmed. That heat was in both of your chests again. That passion that kept you going. “Fuck.” M’Baku yelled.
You screamed M’Baku’s name as you pushed into him. You erupted with a high-pitched cry as M’Baku roared, shooting into you. You both shuddered and grunted through your highs. M’Baku laid there with you, letting your legs wrap around your waist.
M’Baku pulled out of you and rolled over on his back. You cuddled up to him as he pulled the covers over the both of you. “I love you.” You muttered.
“I love you too.” He said. M’Baku held you close as you both drifted off to sleep.

Our Love In Color Finale
A/N: I can’t thank you all enough. This has been an incredible journey and you guys made it more than I ever thought it would be. I may revist this AU in the future just to do one shots but, this is the “end” of the series. Again...there are only so many times I can say thank you. For the last time in this series, the reader is black and plussized.
Warnings:...I’ll let you be surprised
Translations: yam ivu- my rose, umkhulu-grandpa
“Tuma.” Afia called as she walked into the Chief’s quarters.
“Sister?” he said, turning around.
“I’ve gotten Baba out of bed and fed. I was hoping you could be at lunch today.” She said.
“Yes, I’ll be there.” Tuma sighed. There was a silence. “He hasn’t gotten any better.”
“No. I don’t expect that he can.” Afia said, sitting on the foot rest in the room. “None of us saw her going so…suddenly.”
Tuma sat next to her sighing. Afia started to shudder. She leaned into him as he opened his arms. They shared a hug as Afia sobbed. “I miss her so much. I miss Mama.” She cried.
“I know. I do too.” Tuma said. “Everyday.”
Zuberi sat outside with his wife as their twins ran in the yard. “Zuberi, my love.” His wife said as he handed him his teacup. “How are you today?”
“Mentally preparing myself.” He said. “I have lunch with them today. Their anniversary is two weeks away. Or was.”
“Zuberi, I’m sorry.” She said.
“It’s fine, usana.” He said. Zuberi shook his head as he shrugged. He fell silent as he looked over his porch at the scenery. He looked up to the sky, a crisp blue and sniffed. “I just…he did that to himself after she…”
Zuberi’s wife took the seat across from him, taking his hand. He leaned forward as his face contorted. “Zuberi, please.”
“I don’t understand.” He whimpered.
“I know, my love.” She said. “I know it’s hard on all of you. But, you have to remain positive.”
“How? Mama…she’s not here. And Baba, he took…” Zuberi started.
“Sssh.” His wife hushed him as she brought him in and held him close. He silently fell apart as he nuzzled himself in her shoulder.
Wekasa took a deep breath and walked into the room. He nodded at the servant, reading aloud and motioned for her to stop. He cleared his throat as he walked around the chair of his father. “Baba, Afia planned a lunch for us. I’ve come to take you.”
M’Baku grunted as he began to stand. He leaned on the cane they gave him. Wekasa offered his hand as M’Baku started to hold his hand out reaching. He couldn’t help but stare at the wrapping over his father’s eyes, faint glimpses of scar peeking from under the bandages. He grunted as he took a step. He moved the cane around feeling where he was going. Wekasa took slow steps as he guided his father out of the room. “Are you having a good day, Baba?”
“Good? What would be good about any of this?” He growled. Wekasa pressed his lips together holding in a response. He sniffed, holding himself together, in fear he’d come undone in this hallway as he did when he learned of the tragedy that befell his family.
Afia set out her father’s place as Bosede and Tuma appeared to have a light-hearted conversation in the front of the room. The doors opened as Wekasa and M’Baku walked in. “Hello.” Afia said, sounding upbeat.
Wekasa gave a small smile as he stepped into the room with M’Baku. “Baba, you are going to be at the head of the table across from Tuma.” Afia said.
“No.” M’Baku said. “That is your mother’s seat.”
“But, Baba…I’m sure Mama would…” Bosede started but, M’Baku raised his voice.
“It is your mother’s seat!” he yelled.
The room went still as they looked at their father. “Okay.” Afia said. “We have room, its fine.” Afia quickly and somewhat shakenly moved her father’s placemat and put him in a new seat.
During the lunch, the siblings glanced at their father, awkwardly. They insisted in helping to feed him but, he’d push their hands away from him and fumble with his silverware. They tried having conversations but, M’Baku would either not respond or make hushed comments that didn’t have much to do with the conversation. His children weren’t sure what to do or say. M’Baku had good days and bad days, today just wasn’t the best of them.
Afia cleaned the table with some of the servants until Wekasa walked in. Afia looked at him with sympathetic eyes. They hugged each other before going to the balcony and sitting in the cool air.
“I still don’t understand why he did it.” Wekasa said.
“He loved Mama. With everything he had. And she took everything when she…” Afia started. She cleared her throat as a lump began to rise in it. “I still remember his sobs when he woke up. The sound of the scream he gave when he took his eyes was…”
“I still hate that you had to find him like that.” Wekasa said.
“I didn’t think he’d do something so drastic.” Afia said.
Tuma walked in, drawing their attention to him. “His love ran deeper for Mama than we understood. She’ll always be the best part of him. She took that with him.”
“But, for him to change so drastically?” Wekasa asked.
“Death has a way of doing that to people. People grieve differently from others.” Afia said.
“And in his grief, Baba mutilated himself.” Wekasa said, raising his voice slightly. Tuma signaled for him to calm himself as Afia rubbed her temples.
“He has become angry. He isolates himself.” Afia said.
“We almost couldn’t get him to eat in the first days and barely after the funeral.” Tuma said.
“Do you think this is what we thought was wrong with Baba before?” Wekasa asked. There was a silence as they looked at each other. “Baba still began to forget and confuse things. This could have progressed it.”
“Maybe, we can bring Ekene one day. Have Baba talk to her. She’s offered to help him. He needs a therapist of sorts. Someone to talk him through.” Wekasa said.
“Thank her for me.” Afia said.
“Would Baba even talk to her?” Tuma said. “He is barely willing to talk to us. I don’t want to rely on your wife to fix him and it may only send him into another fit. Hanuman knows that last time he had a fit, we almost couldn’t get him to calm down. The man nearly gave himself a heart attack.”
“She’s offered. It can’t hurt.” Afia said.
Tuma sighed. “We can try.”
M’Baku sat in silence. The wrap over his eyes itched. His wounds healed but, they still ached ever so often. He took a deep breath as he heard someone walking into the room. The footsteps were light, clearly a woman’s. “Afia?” he said.
“No, sir. It’s me, Ekene.” The light voice said.
“Why are you here?” M’Baku asked.
“Wekasa wanted me to talk to you. Everyone is really worried about you. Talking about what the past few events may help.” She said.
“No…I don’t want to talk about it.” M’Baku said as he turned his head away.
“I’m sorry.” Ekene said. “Can we talk about you?”
“What about me?” M’Baku said, his brows furrowing.
“How are you feeling?” she asked.
“How should I be doing?” M’Baku growled. “Why are you here? Why are you asking me these questions?”
“Wekasa is worried about you. Everyone is. They just want to make sure that you know you aren’t alone in your grieving.” Ekene said.
“But I am. I am alone.” M’Baku whimpered.
“That’s not true.” She said. “Everyone was saddened by Y/N’s passing.”
M’Baku’s jaw tightened. “We were supposed to have forever.”
“I know. Over 60 years together. I couldn’t imagine.” Ekene said.
“Why did she leave me?” he sighed.
“Death can appear to be very untimely. Especially when it’s someone we love deeply. It’s part of the grief process.” You said.
“Is that what this is?” M’Baku said.
“People do drastic things in their grief.” Ekene said.
“You’re talking about me.” M’Baku said. “Me…and what I did.”
Ekene watched as his grip tightened on the arms of the chair. “I have to be candid when I say that it’s a wonder amongst your children and some of the tribe about that, yes.”
M’Baku took a deep breath. “I don’t want to be without her. She left me here. How can I see without her? I couldn’t live my life without her and she left me here! Why did she leave me?”
“M’Baku, please.” Ekene said as he started to stand up.
“She left me! Y/N left me! Ad we always said we would be together so why did she go? Why did Hanuman take her from me? What had I done?” M’Baku ranted as he paced. He turned violently as his blindness led him.
“M’Baku, sir. Please, calm down.” She said.
“No! Why isn’t she here? I loved her. I love her with all my life and my being. She was the only one. My everything, why isn’t she here?” M’Baku cried.
Tuma walked in at the sound of the yelling. “Baba, what’s going on?”
“Why did you bring her in here to talk to me?” M’Baku said. “What is this? Why is she asking about Y/N? Where is she?”
“Baba, please calm down.” Afia said, coming in.
M’Baku started to back away but, tripped over an end table, breaking a lamp and sending pieces of the glass into his skin. Afia gasped.
“Umkhulu?” Afia’s youngest said, from around the corner.
“Go with your nanny, my love.” She said, pushing him along and going back into the room. M’Baku writhed on the floor as he felt along his arm, his fingertips wet with blood.
“Ekene, go. We’ll help him.” Tuma said, pulling his father off the ground.
Afia prepared to leave for the night as Tuma approached. “I’m not sure what we can do for him.”
“Brother, I’m tired.” She said. “I don’t know what we could do. He is beyond reason. He has lost himself, we can’t…”
Tuma pulled her into the hug as the tears came in. He rubbed her back. “Breathe, relax.”
“There’s nothing we can do. We can’t fix him. Why did Mama leave us? She’s the only one that could do this to him.” She said.
Tuma let her sob into his chest and cry. Once she calmed down, he released her and wiped his sister’s tears. “Go home to your husband and children. Don’t think about this now. Just go home and rest. Don’t come in the morning. I’ll have Ozioma take care of Baba.” He said.
“Tuma, I can’t leave him.” She said.
“You need to take care of yourself. You’ve helped Baba since Mama died. Take a break.” He said. “Go.”
Afia nodded, leaving for the night and letting her tears dry in the light wind.
Today was bittersweet but, M’Baku’s children were determined to make this a good day. Today would have been your and M’Baku’s 65th anniversary. His children planned a celebration regardless of the circumstances. M’Baku on this morning seemed to be in high spirits. He was more willing to interact with others and was actually cheerful.
M’Baku was being escorted from his breakfast. For some reason, things felt different. He felt a spirit around him. A warmth that he hadn’t felt in what seemed like forever. He was brought into his room and left to sit in his chair. “Sir, someone will be here to read to you again.”
“I’m not going anywhere.” M’Baku said as he kept his cane close. He heard footsteps retreat but, then the warmth intensified. His brows furrowed as he felt a chill.
“M’Baku.”
M’Baku began to sit up. “Wait…” he said. He began to reach his hand out.
“I’m right here, my love.”
He felt a pair of soft hands gripped his hand. M’Baku gasped as he knew them all to well. He leaned forward. “Yam ivu.”
“Yes, it’s me. I’ve missed you.” You said.
He began to smile but, the tears soon soaked the sash around his eyes. “Yam ivu.” He called.
“I’m here, M’Baku.” You said. “Don’t cry for me.”
M’Baku couldn’t speak as he sobbed. “Are…are you really here?” he said. “Are you with me?”
“I’m here.” You assured him. “I love you so much.”
“I love you, too.” He said. “I love you. I love you. I’ve always loved you.”
“I know.” You said, your hands trailing up his arms. Your hand touched his chest, easing him back into his chair. He sighed as that worth he’d get everytime overcame him. “My beautiful husband. I miss you.”
“I never told you. I never got to tell you. You were my life.” He said.
You chuckled. “And you were mine. We always told each other that we were the best part of each other’s lives.” You said. “65 years we dedicated to each other. 65 years I never would have got had we never met that day. Had we never touched.”
“I know.” M’Baku said.
“And our children. Grown, beautiful. Everything we’ve always wished for. Found their loves and have their own children. Figures of the tribe that everyone looks up to.” You said.
“We raised them well.” M’Baku said.
“We did. You were the best father you could have been.” You said. “You did so well. Aren’t you proud of yourself?”
“Y/N…” he said.
“Yes, my love.” You said, softly.
“Why did you leave me?” M’Baku said.
You sighed. He heard you sniff and your hand left his chest and just rested on his hand, caressing over the loosening skin. “It was my time.”
“But, I can’t be without you!” he said. “You left me and…”
“M’Baku, please.” You said.
“Y/N, we can’t be without each other. You were everything. Everything I have is because of you. Why did you leave me?” M’Baku said.
“M’Baku, I’m sorry. It hurts me to see you like this.” You said. M’Baku shuddered as he felt something brush over his face. Your soft, loving hand was cupping his cheek. “For you to be suspended…in this darkness after me. But, why did you do this to yourself?” He heard your voice end in a sob.
“My sight was because of you. I couldn’t go back to before like you weren’t in my life. I couldn’t.” he said. “I rather see nothing at all if I can’t see in color with you not here. I couldn’t do it.”
“M’Baku, no.” you said.
“Yam ivu, I couldn’t bear it. I couldn’t. I didn’t have you and I didn’t want any of it. Why couldn’t I go with you?” M’Baku said. You fell silent. He heard your voice come out as a shudder.
“I’m the cause of your pain. I didn’t want to leave you like this. I never wanted it.” You said. “To see you like this…M’Baku, you didn’t have to do this. Leaving you wasn’t something I wanted but if this was the outcome…”
M’Baku sniffled. “I’m sorry.”
“No, I’m sorry.” You said.
“Please, don’t be.” M’Baku said. “This was my choice. My own doing. My own punishment.”
“You never did anything wrong.” You said. “You were more than I ever wanted.”
“And you were the same to me.” M’Baku said.
“M’Baku, I love you.” You said. M’Baku’s hand lifted to the wrap around his eyes. He grabbed and started to lift it. “No, M’Baku. Don’t. It’s fine.” You said, straining.
M’Baku continued to struggle with it. Your hand gripped his, taking it away from his face. M’Baku trembled as he felt you draw closer to him. You leaned in, planting a soft kiss on his lips. His shoulders dropped as he fell into the kiss. He kissed back. You both stayed in this embrace for what seemed like an entirety. The warmth, flowing through his skin and replacing the cold that he was getting accustomed to. You pulled away, slowly. M’Baku licked his lips, savoring you.
“I love you, M’Baku.” You said.
“I love you, too.” M’Baku said.
“Sir…” the voice of the servant said. “Who are you speaking to?”
M’Baku’s head turned to the sound of the woman’s voice. “What?” he said.
“You said, you loved someone. Are you alright?” she asked.
His head shifted forward. The warmth slowly depleted from him. He settled back into his chair. “I’m fine.” He said. “I’m fine.”
M’Baku’s children watched as during the dinner M’Baku interacted and actually smiled. “It’s so good to see you doing better.” T’Challa said, his voice low and gruff from his age.
“I feel so much better.” M’Baku said softly.
“I’m glad also.” Feyisola said. “Jolasun would be happier too.”
“Jolasun, what happened to…” He started. M’Baku sighed and nodded. “That’s right, I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine, M’Baku. You don’t have to be sorry.” Feyisola said, patting his shoulder.
“If I may ask…how did you cope when she passed?” M’Baku asked.
Feyisola sighed. “It was hard. Still is. But I know she loved me. I think about this times where I had her and make the best of everyday because I know that’s what she would want me to do.”
M’Baku nodded. “I think Y/N would want me to live that way. It’s just hard to do that.”
“It’ll get better. Everything takes time.” T’Challa said, patted his old friend’s back. M’Baku nodded.
“Y/N lived a full life. And you always say that she was best part.” Kaseko said. “You just have to relish it.”
It was later that night. The palace fell silent as M’Baku prepared for bed. “Did you enjoy everything, Baba?” Zuberi said.
“I did. It was nice. Thank you all for that.” M’Baku said as he sat on his bed.
“We’re glad we could do something for you that you enjoyed.” Bosede said.
“Before, I sleep. I need to tell you all something.” He said, lifting his head.
“We’re all here.” Tuma said.
“I love you. I love every single one of you. I’m happy to have been your father. And I hope I sufficed as I tried to do better than my father before.” He said.
“Baba, we love you too.” Wekasa said. “You know we appreciate you.”
“Yes, Baba.” Afia said. “You are still a great man.”
M’Baku nodded. “It’s nice…having you here. Y/N…your mother would be happy to see this.”
“I’m sure in Hanuman’s graces she is smiling upon us.” Zuberi said.
M’Baku gave a smile as the warmth in his chest came back. “Before I go to bed, can you have bring me an altar? I want to pray before I rest.”
“Sure.” Tuma said, motioning to one of the guards at the door. “Would you like for us to be with you or do you want to be alone?”
“Alone, please. Put it close by the bed, I’ll manage.” He requested.
M’Baku was brought to kneel at the altar by his bedside. His children told him good night and left him to his prayer. M’Baku took a deep breath as he began his prayer. “I thank you…for the life you gave me. For my father, for the mother that birthed me and the one that raised me. I thank you for granted me to be Chief and to lead this tribe and be a part of something so much greater. I thank you for my children and their children. I ask you to bless them and their children after them. Please keep them in your good graces and guide them along their way. And more importantly, thank you for my wife. Thank you for my Y/N. Without her…I would have had nothing. My love for her will be forever eternal. My lips will continue to speak her name until you see fit to bring me to her and the ancestors. Thank you.”
M’Baku blew out the candles and reached for his bed. He slipped in and pulled the covers over him. His chest was warm and felt like peace was washing over him. M’Baku began to hear the light tapping on his windows from the rain. He smiled thinking of you and all the times the weather had influenced good moments with you too. Next time, there was snowfall he made a mental note to step out and savor it. M’Baku hoped to himself, Hanuman would let him remember. He gave a soft sigh as he felt faint. M’Baku shuddered as he felt his heart skip a beat. He became cold and something felt as something was sinking in. M’Baku felt afraid at first but, something put his mind to ease. He continued to feel his heart stutter and eventually slow. He felt his body relax as he succumbed to what felt like a peaceful sleep.
M’Baku felt something itch at his back. He squirmed and realized he was no longer in his bed. He felt warm. He flexed his toes and found himself standing. M’Baku smiled fresh air and something musky. He winced as he found himself, blinking. He saw a shadow from beyond the sash approaching him. He reached to remove it but, he felt a hand take his.
“My love.” You said. M’Baku gasped as he heard your voice. He felt you tug on the wrapping and pull it over his head. He blinked at the bright light as he looked over the mountains from their cave. Everything was like he used to be. Deep browns, soft blues, stark whites. The sun, a lovely bright yellow. He finally looked at you. A smile on your face. His youth and yours restored to you.
“Yam ivu. Y/N” he said as he cupped your face.
“I’m here, M’Baku.” You said. “We’re together again. Our spot like always.”
M’Baku looked around. He wrapped his arms around you, almost in disbelief. “Is this real? Will I wake up from this?”
“You’re here with me. I’m here with you. This is how it’s always been and how it’s always will be.” You said.
“I love you so much.” He said.
“And I love you.” You said. M’Baku fell into a kiss, soft then deepening it. He held you close and tight as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
“Don’t fall behind, children.” Afia said as all of the kids laughed and followed behind their parents. “We don’t want to miss the sunset.”
“This is special. Our parents, your grandparents came here very often.” Tuma said as he lifted his youngest son into the air, his wife laughing at him. “They would bring us here and teach us all about the beautiful colors we can see it and how love was the foundation of this family.”
“Is that why we made the carvings?” Afia’s eldest asked.
“Is it for them?” One of Zuberi’s twins asked.
“Yes, it is.” Wekasa said as he helped his pregnant wife. “Just a gift to let them know we are always thinking about them.”
They made it up the last part of the mountain to the cave opening. You and M’Baku’s children stopped in awe. Flowers had grown around the opening of the cave. Vines that were dry and shriveled were a vibrant green and sprouted flowers in purples, pinks, reds and all sort of colors. Some big, some small. Blossoming and strong. There were a few buds that had yet to bloom but, they were on their way.
“How beautiful it is.” Afia said.
“It’s like them.” Tuma said.
“Their love…in color.” Wekasa said.
“But it’s just flowers.” Tuma’s teenager said. He wrapped an arm around his neck and pulled him in.
“Yes…but one day, you will see. Just like we do. And just like they did.” Tuma said. “Soon, you’ll understand.”

Our Love In Color XXIII
A/N: Here it is, another part. I hope you guys like this one because I’m putting in a lot of effort towards the end. Thank you for sticking with this story. Reminder: the reader is black and plus sized
Warnings: fluff, smut, aftercare, loss of virginity
translation: yam ivu-my rose
M’Baku had you underneath his arm as you walked through the halls of the Jabari compound. You both had left the great celebration and finally were back in for the night. “I’m so proud of you.” You said.
M’Baku looked down at you, smiling. “I love you.” He said.
“M’Baku.” Kaseko said. You both turned to see Kaseko trailing behind you. “I must be going. My mother is back home so I need to be there.”
“Go, brother. We’ll meet tomorrow.” M’Baku said, giving him a hug. You opened your hand to him, M’Baku, of course, taking it and walking with you. “Now, the real work begins.”
“You’ll be able to succeed, my love. I’m certain of it.” You said. He leaned in and kissed you. You kissed back, wrapping your arms around his neck. He pulled away, his hands resting on your hips. You could see in his eyes, he had something to ask. You got this butterfly feeling in your stomach as he looked at you. “What is it?”
“Can you stay here tonight?” M’Baku asked.
“What? Spend the night in the Chief’s quarters? I think you deserve to have that to yourself.” You said.
“I spent the night in the Chief’s quarters last night.” M’Baku said. “Plus, this entire thing has been for the both of us. Stay the night. With me, yam ivu.”
You chuckled. “Fine, yes. I’ll spend the night, Chief.”
“Thank you, Chieftess.” He said, playfully.
The Chief’s quarters were located in a part of the palace that you had not seen before. It was a touch more decorated. Once M’Baku guided you through the doors, you were in awe of the room. It was much bigger than M’Baku’s old room. It was more circular shaped with the vast windows showing another side of the Mountains you hadn’t seen. The room was split level. A sitting area and fire pit in the middle of the room. An opening to the closet and one large sliding door to the bathroom. The room had some accents of white and silver to counter the deep color of the wood. The bed was huge. The frame was floating giving the room a slightly modern touch. The headboard was oval with an engraved and glossed mural of patterns.
You grazed your hand over the fur comforter and looked over at M’Baku. “I’ll provide you with something to wear tonight and we’ll work on getting you something for the morning.” M’Baku walked over to get the fireplace going as you gazed around the room. There was an odd silence between you two.
You spent the night talking and discussing goals M’Baku had for the tribe. You both laid in bed, soft touches on each other and glances at the smoldering fire that M’Baku started. You both felt energetic for some reason. Though hours had passed since you laid in bed, neither of you yawned or eyes fluttered. You continued to talk and caress each other. You felt his nervousness, his excitement. There was no worry, just alertness. It was like a buzzing. Not in your ears but on your skin.
“Why aren’t you tired?” you asked. “It’s been such a long day.”
“I don’t know.” He said.
You chuckled, scooting closer to him. “Go to sleep.” You teased.
“I can’t.” M’Baku chuckled. You leaned over kissing him. He placed one hand on your cheek, rubbing his thumb across it. You deepened the kiss to his surprise as he began to get on top of you. You both broke the kiss as there was a crack of thunder. You both looked to the massive windows as lightning flashed and rain coated the outside of the glass. “Do you think that’s a good sign? The rain?”
“I met you before a snow storm. I think about that almost everyday. We were trapped in a cave because of the rain and it was one of the best nights of my life. I think it is.” You said. M’Baku looked down at you, smiling. You cupped his face as he kissed you again. Your legs wrapped around him as his hips lowered into yours. Your hands slid down to his chest as his tongue entered your mouth. You moaned as he broke the kiss, going to lick your neck. “M’Baku.” You moaned.
Your core felt moist and you pressed your lips together. Your heart was pounding as M’Baku’s hands traveled down to the tail of the tunic you were wearing. M’Baku slid down, making eye contact with you. Your legs were brought to rest on his shoulders. This again, you thought.
M’Baku felt you at your most anxious so he wasn’t going to keep you waiting. You gasped as M’Baku’s tongue made contact with your clit. Your hands gripped his curls as pleasure pulsated through you. M’Baku’s hands gripped your thighs as he lapped at your nub. You gasped and gave soft moans, letting him know he was doing right.
You didn’t remember it being this good. Your other hand gripped the sheets as M’Baku kept sucking and licking at your clit. “Fu-…M’Baku!” you cried. Your hips started to lift but, M’Baku followed you. Your toes curled as M’Baku flicked rapidly. You jerked but, M’Baku held you tight.
“You taste amazing, yam ivu.” He hummed. The vibrations should have been enough to send you over the edge but, something kept you holding on. M’Baku was feeding off of your pleasure. It was driving him to do more. He felt you quivering and tensing up against him. Your breath became hitched in your throat. The crown of your head pressed into the pillow as you moaned. You let out a loud yelp as you came. M’Baku licked up every drop of you as the grip on his hair tightened.
M’Baku took your hand as he crawled back on top of you. You kissed him, tasting yourself on his lips. You wrapped your legs around him, feeling his member against you. He broke the kiss to lift you up. You raised your hands above your head as M’Baku pulled the tunic over your head and tossed it. He laid you back down on the bed, taking one breast into his hand, massaging it. You moaned as you felt him took the opposite breast into his mouth. You cooed as he kissed along your breasts.
His lips were soft and tender on your skin. You were left to squirm underneath him as massaged your breasts. You didn’t think him playing with them would turn you on more. M’Baku was trying to show restraint. He wanted this to be slow but, your pleasure became his, driving him and wanting to hurry this along. He was already hard and needing to bury himself inside you.
You cupped his face, bringing back up to kiss you. M’Baku settled himself in between your legs. “Take them off.” You said. M’Baku placed himself on one hand and pushed his shorts down. You watched his member spring up. His tip was dripping with precum. You clenched thinking about him being inside you.
M’Baku felt that tinge of nervousness. He opened his mouth to speak but, you spoke first. “Just go slow. Gentle.”
“If you ever want me to stop, just say so.” He said. You stroked him first, getting a sense of how much he had. You opened your legs up as M’Baku centered himself with your entrance. Your nervousness washed away as M’Baku stared into your eyes. The usual warm feeling was at it’s highest now. A white-hot heat that was going to send you both over the edge. You felt ready for him. You were wet and hot for him. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too.” You said. M’Baku slowly pushed into you. You winced and gasped as his tip pushed into you. You felt yourself opening for him. There was a tinge of pain as you welcomed his length. You winced and hissed as M’Baku gave you more than his tip. He began to stop as he was concerned for you.
“It hurts.” He said. He didn’t like the slight grimace on your face. You shook your head, taking a breath. You wanted to encourage him so, he didn’t think he was doing this wrong. You brought his head down to you, a tender kiss on his lips. You moaned as M’Baku kissed your neck and whispered sweet things in your ear. “Keep going.” You said.
M’Baku groaned as he pushed further. Your thighs hugged his waist. He shuddered as your tight, wet walls enveloped him. You grasped his shoulders, clinging to him. The pain started to subside and you were surprised you were able to allow him. You didn’t need him to stop this time. You didn’t need a reprieve. M’Baku didn’t have to stop to check on you. Your pleasure engulfed him. His head lifted to the ceiling and there was a crack in his neck. You hugged his neck, bringing him back down.
You shared a passionate kiss before pulling away. The look in your eyes and the butterfly feeling you both shared was all the confrontation he needed. You both were ready. Your body felt different though. Like him being inside you connected you both in a way that you had never been before. Your touch sense was heightened. You didn’t just feel M’Baku, it was something more. Like you were binding into him.
You were getting accustomed to his size and you were ready for him to move. One hand slid down to the small of his back as if you were guiding him. His hips rolled into you, slowly. You moaned and called his name. His pace was careful and loving. His strokes were a tad uncoordinated but, pleasurable nonetheless.
Though he was only giving you half his length, you felt the inches drag against you. There was still a slight dull pain but, the pleasure was much greater. You kissed him as rain rattled against the windows. Thunder rang out but, M’Baku couldn’t hear it over your moans. The sheets sat on his thighs as he buried into you. He had found his rhythm, letting himself move more fluently. M’Baku tried not to put all of his weight on you but, you didn’t seem to complain about anything.
“M’Baku.” You moaned. Your eyes were clamped shut as you squirmed beneath him. Your body became relaxed as if you had submitted to him. Everything felt so much greater than you imagined. M’Baku hissed and grunted as your nails scratched along his back.
Your eyes rolled to the back of your head with each thrust. M’Baku almost couldn’t focus. He felt like he was floating and you did too. M’Baku kissed along your neck. “Are you alright?”
“Yes. Oh, yes!” you said. “Yes, M’Baku. Yes!”
Sweat began to coat both of your brows. You stretched one arm up to touch the headboard and the other you kept on M’Baku’s shoulder. The slow pace was driving you mad. You had heard that sex was good but, this was indescribable. Was it because it was your soulmate? Or was M’Baku, as himself, just that good? You weren’t sure and you could barely think. But you knew that you were ready to explode. M’Baku’s curve hit your g-spot each stroke. You held him tighter. You wanted to full of him.
“Faster. Please.” You moaned in his ear. “Please, M’Baku.”
M’Baku followed your request but, careful not to do too much. His hips moved faster but, he made sure not to slam into you. He moved at a moderate pace. You shuddered around him. Your moans got louder and you tensed up. The pressure in the pit of your stomach built up. M’Baku gripped the sheets as he started to feel his own pleasure come to a head.
“Y/N.” He moaned. “I’m close.”
Your acknowledgment came as a cry. You bit your lip as you tightened around him. M’Baku began to move faster, chasing his own orgasm. His movements became more erratic again.
You arched into him as the pads of your toes pressed into his skin. M’Baku kept his chin in your neck, whispering things to you. “I love you. I’m not letting you go. We’re finally together the way we want to be, yam ivu.”
You could only moan in response as your voice got high pitched as you shook. You tried to stay quiet but, your body wasn’t going to allow it. Your orgasm rushed over you. It felt like your body was releasing every ounce of energy it had built up. You screamed through your climax and M’Baku felt it too which sent him over the edge. He shot his warm seed into you. You moaned as you felt yourself becoming full of his and your love. M’Baku tried hard not to collapse as he became overwhelmed. You both looked at each other and it was like the colors became more vibrant. The room may have been dark but, it was like you were glowing. Just like the first time he saw you and the colors seemed like they were coming from you. You caressed his face as your legs fell to the side. Both of you, catching your breath and coming down from the literal highs of the orgasm. He leaned down, kissing you. You kissed back, caressing his face. You locked yourself back around him as his tongue slipped into your mouth. He pulled away, supporting himself back on his hands.
M’Baku didn’t break his gaze from you as he reached and turned on the lamp. He wanted to speak but, he was almost scared to ruin the moment. You traced a finger over his lips as you laid breathless beneath him. “Are you okay?” he asked.
You weakly nodded, trying to push yourself up in the bed. You winced slightly as you pulled yourself off of him.
“Are you pleased?” M’Baku asked almost sheepishly.
“Very. Very.” You said as your hands ran down his chest. M’Baku smiled leading into another kiss. He moved away from you to see his work. His seed had spilled on the sheets some and there were small droplets of blood on the sheets. M’Baku got out of the bed and went to the bathroom.
Once M’Baku came back, he picked you up and carried you into the bathroom. You giggled all the way there. M’Baku let you down gently before opening the door to the shower and letting you in.
M’Baku quickly changed the sheets and put new sheets on the bed. He laid the old sheets by the door before, quickly coming back and found you washing yourself off. He pulled a towel and offered it to you.
“Come in with me.” You said, taking his hand. “Please.”
M’Baku didn’t want to tell you no. He put the towel to the side and walked in with you, closing the door. You kissed him, bringing him under the water. You spent the shower washing each other off and exchanging soft gentle touches. You cleaned each other off with a fragrant soap with long loving kisses in between. You could have done it again right there, the heat from the shower and your bodies enticing you. However, you refrained as part of you was very much spent.
After you were dry, M’Baku laid you back down on the fresh sheets and pulled the covers over you. M’Baku cuddled close to you. His nose in her moist curls, breathing you in softly. You kept each other warm as finally, you started to drift off. The storm was still in full effect so thunder and rain on the windows served as your lullaby.

Our Love In Color XXIV
A/N: Thank you all for sticking with this. These next few parts will be the wrap up for this series. The reader is Black and Plussized.
Warnings: angst and fluff
“Sir…” the council member said.
“Silence!” M’Baku said, sternly. “We are not interacting with those below the mountain. The Jabari have survived and thrived on our traditions for generations and we will continue to do so.”
“I understand we’ve followed traditions but, would it not be time to reach out to the rest of Wakanda? Finally be in unity?” the council member asked.
“A king hasn’t come up the mountains in centuries. They wouldn’t do it now.” You said. “History has shown that we’ve attempted to make efforts but, nothing has come to through fruition. It could be wasted energy.”
“Exactly.” M’Baku said.
“However…” you started. M’Baku looked over at you curiously, eyebrow raised. “We could be some effort into considering it. It’d be wrong for us to be close minded so early into our new leadership.” You gave him a slight smile almost teasingly. M’Baku fought hard not to smile back, clenching his jaw and turn away.
“We are putting this discussion on hold for the moment.” He said, gaining the seriousness in his voice back. “What else?”
In the past four months, M’Baku had done extremely well at being Chief. He didn’t need to be guided or handheld. People really came to respect him more and take to him. He didn’t seem to miss a beat. Of course, he would like to thank you for that seeing as you had a great habit of keeping him abreast of all the things he would have to do for the week. You both worked together effortlessly. You had to guess it was easy when you were in love.
Things wrapped up early for today which prompted for you and M’Baku to stay behind in the throne room. You sat on the arm of the new, pristine throne made for M’Baku. “So, my Chief…”
“Are you spending the night with me or are you going home?” he asked one arm snaking around your waist.
“I don’t know. I haven’t decided, yet.” You teased.
“Oh stop now.” He said, pinching your side. You jumped, laughing. He pulled you into a kiss. He deepened as he practically pulled you down into the seat. You moaned before pulling away with a giggle.
“M’Baku, stop.” You giggled. “What if someone walks in?”
“We’re done for the day.” M’Baku said, shrugging. “Plus, I missed you this morning.” M’Baku started to kiss your neck. You held his hands, trying to contemplate. You moved around from him, looking at him.
“What about that thing we talked about?” you said.
M’Baku sighed and settled back on the throne, throwing his head back. You almost wanted to pull away from him in disappointment but, you knew it was his and you just wanted to talk with him. “What about it?” he groaned.
“Have you thought about it?” you said.
“I need more than one night to think about that.” M’Baku said.
“Understandable but, can I at least know what you are thinking?” you said.
M’Baku picked his head up looking at you. He pulled on one of your braids as he started to speak. “What is that he can say to me?” he said, shrugging. “And why should I have to hear him out? I thought we were done when I ascended.”
“When I spoke with him before your ceremony…he said he had a lot of time to reflect. Now maybe he has had a lot more time since, being there by himself and not having your mom.” You said.
“Well, I don’t see a need in talking to him. I made my peace with your relationship long ago. I don’t need him.” M’Baku said. You placed a hand on his cheek, rubbing your thumb across it.
“But what if he needs you?” you said. “Do you really want to live the rest of your life in contempt for him?”
“Y/N, you know how I don’t care for this. I don’t care for him.” M’Baku huffed.
“I understand but, you need to hear him out. Just this once.” You said. M’Baku looked away from you, removed your hand from his face and you got this burn in your chest. Anger. You pressed your lips together, using your thumb to press each digit down to crack your knuckles. You both sat in silence, you staring at him and M’Baku looking towards the door. It seemed like minutes passed and you grew frustrated with this unintentional quiet game. “Fine. Don’t.” you growled. You got up and started to head for the door.
“Oh, why are you angry?” M’Baku said, getting up and following after you.
“Because, you are being a stubborn jackass.” You said as you walked through the large double doors.
“Yam ivu.” M’Baku called.
“No!” you yelled back.
M’Baku groaned, scratching his head. “Fine, I’ll go talk to him!” he said.
“I’m not accepting that. It’s not genuine.” You said, as you continued to storm off.
“Not genuine?” M’Baku said. “Y/N, come here.”
“No.” you said, turning the corner. You were now feeding on each other’s anger and it wasn’t going to get any better.
“So, I supposed to chase you everywhere?” he said. You didn’t answer as you went into his quarters to gather your bag. “Where are you going?”
“Home.” You said.
“Eh, eh. No, you aren’t leaving here angry at me.” He said.
“Watch.” You said. M’Baku grabbed your bag from your shoulder and tossed it back where you picked it up from. You folded your arms, staring up at him and a frown on your face. Yet again, you were trapped in a staring contest. M’Baku didn’t move and neither did you. You both stood there like statues, no blinking, no moving. You were barely breathing.
Suddenly, your anger started to subside. M’Baku’s lips folding in first, trying to hold his laughter. You shuddered a bit. Your eyes fluttered and you tried to hold your position. M’Baku snorted at you causing you to burst into laughter. He pulled you in for a hug as you both erupting into laughter.
“M’Baku, stop. Seriously.” You said, coming down from being silly. You punched him in his chest, looking up at him.
“Eish, alright. I’ll go see him. At least make sure he is doing okay.” M’Baku said.
“That’s all I asked.” You said.
“You are coming with me.” M’Baku said.
“Oh…see. I have this thing. Some of the ladies want to…” you started.
“Uh-huh. Sure.” He said, grabbing your wrist and flinging you towards the bed.
“No, M’Baku. I have to get home for dinner.” You giggled.
“Your mom doesn’t start cooking until 7. It’s barely 5 o’ clock.” M’Baku said, taking off his shoes. “And I intend on making the most of our time.” You leaned up kissing him as he pulled on the string of your tunic.
You watched for a far as M’Baku and his father practiced archery. You sat on the wrap around porch of M’Bako’s house, fixing a blanket he tore. You thought it was better to leave them alone, otherwise M’Baku would use you as an excuse to get home early.
“How are things?” M’Bako asked as it pulled the arrow back on his bow.
“Good. Everything has gone quite well.” M’Baku said as he watched the arrow fly and hit the top of the target.
“It’s nice to hear. And I presume you and Y/N are doing well.” He said letting his son take a turn. M’Baku pulled back his arrow with a steady arm. He let the arrow go, hitting the middle of the target perfectly. M’Bako smiled and nodded.
“We’re doing just fine.” M’Baku said. “She may…or may not have convinced me to come here and see you.”
“Mmm, she’s a great person.” His father said, looking over at you. “Reminds me of your mother. She had a talent for keeping me honest.”
“Well, you squander that.” M’Baku said.
“I wasn’t talking about Niyi, M’Baku.” M’Bako said, pausing. M’Baku turned back to him, an almost apologetic look on his face. “But, I get it. I was a bitter old man and raised a bitter son. What did I expect?”
M’Baku wasn’t sure what to say. He tapped his bow into the dirt, looking down. The wind whipped through them in silence.
“M’Baku, I was a terrible father. A terrible husband. And I broke a very sacred promise.” M’Bako said.
“What was that?” M’Baku sighed.
“While your mother was pregnant with you…we’d have these lovely, heartfelt discussions. Talking to her was a peace I had never felt. On this day, we had a nice picnic. She may have been four months with you, I think. We were talking and she told me that in her heart, she knew I was going to be a good father to you. I promised her on the very ground we stood on…that I would be the best father to our child. I’d teach them to fish, to fight, to hunt and to lead. I’d love them better than my father loved me.” M’Bako said. “I failed.”
M’Baku watched his father stare into the woods. “I failed her. And I failed you. I failed you the day I held you and in my overwhelming grief, I pushed you off to Niyilolawa and became recluse.” He said. “I know I’m far beyond making amends for what I have done.”
“Why now?” M’Baku spoke up. “Why…why try to talk to me about this now?”
“I’m not really sure. Whether it’s a miracle of Hanuman or something else…I can’t say.” He replied.
“So, now you seek forgiveness?” M’Baku said. “What if I won’t give it?”
“I would hope you are the better man I think you to be and forgive me. However, if you were to not forgive me, I will live the remainder of my life in acceptance of that.” His father said.
They both stared at each other, speaking almost silently to each other for a moment. The tension was thick between them. M’Baku pressed his lips together and shifted his weight in his stance.
“Would it be forth it if I told you I loved you?” M’Bako asked. “That I truly did love you, that I just couldn’t show it.”
“Why not?” M’Baku asked. “Why couldn’t you?”
“M’Baku, I didn’t know love until I met your mother. My parents weren’t a match either. Was it a repeated cycle? Yes. But, it was your mother who made me feel love and I reciprocated it to her and all of that was supposed to be for you.” M’Bako said.
“So because she died, you couldn’t love me! Is that what you are telling me?” M’Baku said, getting angry.
“That’s not what I meant.” His father said.
“That’s what I heard!” M’Baku said.
“I didn’t know how!” His father yelled back. “I lost the one person who loved me. What was I to do without her? I could barely get through a day without even thinking about her. Suddenly, I had to figure out how to continue without her. I couldn’t handle it! The best part of my life ripped from me as she gave birth and I could nothing but cry, call her name and pray to Hanuman it was a nightmare I’d soon wake from. Every night I’d lay to rest thinking she’d be there when I would wake up but, all there was was Niyi asking me to come to see you and I couldn’t bear it.”
“You blamed me for her death.” M’Baku said, holding the bow tight in one hand, trying to keep himself grounded.
“No…Never. I may have been bitter but, I didn’t think you to be that. You were the product of our love and I couldn’t see you as anything else. I just couldn’t…love you after her. I had no idea what to do. Your cries used to carry all through the halls and my body would freeze whenever I tried to hold you. I saw her face in yours and I just…” M’Bako said. The tears started from his eyes and he couldn’t hide them.
M’Baku softened, his grip loosened on the hard wood of the bow. M’Baku felt his own tears starting and couldn’t try to fight them. M’Bako couldn’t form words anymore, he simply turned away and sobbed lightly. M’Baku gave him a minute as he stood back.
M’Bako turned back to M’Baku, wiping his eyes. “I’m sorry.”
“You’ve never talked about it…all this time?” M’Baku asked.
M’Bako remained silent, biting into his lip. He softly shook his head. There was a silence again. “M’Baku, saying I’m sorry will never do any justice.”
“No, it won’t.” M’Baku said, his jaw tight.
M’Bako nodded in agreement. “I will hold nothing against you for however you feel about me. I’ve made my bed and I will lay in it. I’ve accepted all the punishments Hanuman has handed me and I will continue to accept. I can only pray that He is kind to you, Y/N and Niyilolawa.” He said.
M’Baku wiped his face and put the bow back in the holster that was set on the ground. He started to walk back towards the small compound. “Y/N!” he called.
You watched him get closer and wiped the tears that fell. “Yes.” You said folding the blanket and standing up.
“We’re leaving, my love.” He said. He motioned for the escort to get your shawl as he walked up the steps of the porch and to you.
“But, M’Baku…” you started.
“It is time to go, yam ivu.” M’Baku said. You held his hand as he sniffled. You wiped his face as he looked down. The guard brought your cover, giving it to M’Baku so he could drape it over you.
You lied in bed with M’Baku, his head on your stomach. He didn’t tell you about it. There was an unsettling silence between you. It bothered you so much. “M’Baku.” You whispered. “Talk to me.”
“How do I forgive him?” M’Baku asked. “Why do I want to?”
“He is still your father.” You said.
M’Baku sighed. “For all he has done...and what he didn’t do.”
“That part is over.” You said.
M’Baku sighed and shut his eyes. “I don’t hate him. But, I know I can’t confide in him. I can’t love him as a father. I know we shouldn’t hate our parents. But I refuse to let go of what has been done to me, to you and to Niyi. I can’t.”
“You don’t have to.” You said. “But could you do it where it was just enough to live and be cordial?”
M’Baku stared back up at the ceiling.
M’Bako was on his porch, carving into a piece of wood. He grimaced as he tried to make a mural but, was failing miserably. He heard footsteps approaching and looked up to see M’Baku walking up the path and onto the steps. M’Bako raised an eyebrow as M’Baku leaned against the railing and folded his arms. He looked down at his father and sighed.
“M’Baku?” M’Bako said.
“I want to let you know that I’ve heard you. Do I accept your apologies? In a way, yes. However, my forgiveness will not come overnight. And I can’t exactly forget either. It’ll take me a very long time. With that, I want to propose something to you, old man. Every last Sunday of the month, Y/N and I…would like to have you for dinner.” M’Baku said. “It will be a start, I suppose.”
M’Bako nodded with a small smile. “Tell your beloved that I accept and would be honored.” He said. “And thank you. For at least entertaining this old man.”
“I’m proud of you.” You told M’Baku. You kissed his forehead as he hugged your waist while you laid in bed. He turned his head to face you.
“I think I’m proud of me too.” He said. “But I also need to thank you.”
“For?” you asked.
“Had you not said anything…I wouldn’t have done it. I would have lived in contempt of him until his death.” M’Baku said.
You shrugged. “It needed to happen some time. I’m not sure if I could let you go on like that.”
“Well, bless Hanuman for making you the level headed one to make it happen.” He chuckled. “How could I possibly thank you? Oh, I know.”
“You know?” you said.
“Indeed, I do.” M’Baku said, lifting his head from your belly and kissing you. You giggled as M’Baku opened your legs and brought his hips done into yours.

Our Love In Color XXVII
A/N: One more part before the end. I can’t say thank you enough. The reader has always been black and plussized.
Warnings: angst...some fluff
You bounced your daughter, Afia in your arms as Tuma played with his wooden hooks at your feet and your other son, Bosede played with his toys. You took a deep breath as you felt nervous. You tried to calm yourself for M’Baku’s sake but, you couldn’t stop thinking. The news spread extremely fast that King T’Chaka had passed. M’Baku was adamant to descend from the mountains and become King. You’d support him of course but, this was so sudden. He expressed his distain with Wakanda’s use of vibranium and how there was no respect for the traditions anymore. When he told you he was going to challenge, you were uncertain. Though, you knew there wasn’t any stopping him. Your support came unconditionally but, you had to worry. You tried to suppress it for M’Baku but, that wouldn’t work.
M’Baku told you to stay. He couldn’t fight with you so close but, it was also going to be difficult to be so far away. Your emotions weren’t even at their peak.
“He will be fine.” Niyi said.
“I’m trying to be strong.” You whimpered.
“M’Baku is a formidable warrior. He will return to you, unharmed.” Your mother said.
“And M’Baku could be king.” Niyi said. Their hopefulness gave you some peace. You took deep breaths as Dalia, cooed against you in her wrap, toes tapping on her sides. You smiled, kissing her forehead as you stood up.
“It’s going to be fine. He’ll be fine.” You said, more so to yourself than anything. You stood at the window meditating for a bit. He was going to be fine. M’Baku was your husband and he knew how to take care of himself.
You decided to take an early dinner. No doubt by this time the challenge would have started. You felt overwhelmingly calm during the meal. However, it was when you were in the middle of it that you felt your heart race. It was the same way you felt out M’Baku’s ceremony. There was a sense of pride at first. You nodded as you knew he was alright. You continued to eat and listened to conversation among your mother and Niyi. Tuma toyed with his food in his highchair and Afia’s head still rested on your chest.
Your skin grew warm as you felt excited. Stay calm, you thought. M’Baku wouldn’t be able to take your reactions to anything right now. Your jaw clamped as you tried distracting yourself, focusing on other things around the room. Bosede shook his spoon and laughed at a face that Niyi made at him. Tuma sloppily cut into his meal with your mother trying to help him. Afia’s head laid on your chest, soft breathing and light sighs as she slept. You sat back in your chair, eyes closed. You started to zone things out, only feeling M’Baku.
Then, you jerked. You gasped as you rose from the table. “Y/N, what is it?” your mother said.
You didn’t speak as you held Afia close. You swallowed. Your muscles became tight. “M’Baku.” You said.
“What is it?” Niyi asked. “Come sit.”
Your body jerked again. You huffed, almost as if you were a beast. “Take her.” You said, reaching behind you and unraveled the sash that kept Afia bound to you. Niyi came and took her as she stirred.
“Mama.” Bosede whimpered.
Your fists clenched as the energy surged through you. The challenge had to be well underway. You knew this feeling. Each time M’Baku sparred, this was the feeling. You couldn’t control your own body. It was rare that you’d overpower one another but, this would be the time. His pride and excitement would override you, taking you over. Your breathing was shallow as you paced.
You stood in place. A triumph washing over you. Your body still couldn’t relax, however. Something was still happening. You felt this pain suddenly in your head, but it wasn’t a headache. What was this? You never felt this before. There was a surge of energy that caused you to jerk again. You huffed, feeling some sort of pressure in your back.
It was then that a rush went through you. You let out a cry as your chest tightened and you dropped. You could hear your children crying, but you couldn’t see them. You realized you were on the floor, yet you couldn’t see your hands or the wood. You clutched yourself as you panic frantically. “I can’t see.” You screamed.
You felt hands take your shoulders but, you yanked away from, dragging yourself across the floor.
“No powers! No claws! No special suit, oh! Just a boy, not fit to lead!” M’Baku yelled to the crowd. He was making an example out of T’Challa. He was going to win. He was going to become king. His pride taking over. Suddenly, T’Challa leaned up from M’Baku’s grasp, hitting him in the head numerous times. His head brought down to T’Challa’s knee, cracking the mask in two and blood cascading over the center of his face. M’Baku wiped it before taking the sharp end of his knobkerrie and pushing it into T’Challa’s chest. He tried pushing it further, digging it in.
T’Challa yelled as the other Wakandans watched, anticipating the next move. Kaseko and the other Jabari warriors stood ready, all hoping that their leader would pull through.
“I am Prince T’Challa! Son of King T’Chaka!” T’Challa yelled. He removed the weapon from his body and in a swift movement, brought M’Baku down. He glided across the water, entrapping M’Baku’s head and neck in a leg lock. They struggled as T’Challa brought them to the edge of the waterfall.
“Yield!” T’Challa said. “Don’t make me kill you!”
M’Baku twisted, trying to pull away. His arm was caught as T’Challa held it and with each movement, they were getting closer to the edge. M’Baku gripped his opponent’s ankle as he fought. The Dora Milaje and Jabari neared them, closing in the circle. The crowd began to chant for T’Challa. M’Baku’s heart raced as he gasped.
“You’ve fought with honor. Your people need you.” He said. M’Baku looked at the faces of his men. But, there was something else. He got this pulsating in his chest. His sight began to blur and fade. Things started to look dull and bleak. Gray. No, Y/N, he thought.
“Yield, man!”
M’Baku took a breath, bracing himself. He tapped on T’Challa’s leg. T’Challa immediately let him go, letting him breathe. T’Challa slipped from under him as the Jabari men, collected their leader from the edge.
“Get up.” Kaseko whispered. M’Baku came to his feet and leaned on his comrades. “You did well. It’s fine.”
M’Baku took deep slow breaths as the color came back. He sighed, more so for relief than defeat.
You gasped as your sight returned, color and all. Your fear among all the other emotions finally subsided. You took deep breaths as you settled into the floor. You didn’t lose him, he was alright. You found Niyi and your mother over you as you were flat on your back and looking up at the ceiling. You held yourself as you felt him. You sobbed lightly as you tried to gather yourself.
“What is it?” a guard said.
“He’s fine.” You whispered, more for yourself than for others to hear.
M’Baku watched T’Challa be bestowed the necklace of the king. He growled but, soon his anger subsided and it was worry. A dullness in his chest, a shiver coming over him. He could feel that he put you through it, making him disappointed in myself. “Get me back to my wife.” He said.
You laid in bed, your head in your mother’s lap, her soft hand patting your shoulder. You sniffled as you reeled from the day. For some reason, your body still ached and something felt broken. M’Baku’s pride. You sighed as you lifted your up out of your position.
“Sweetheart?” your mother said.
“My children. Where are they?” you said.
“In their rooms.” Niyi said, from across the room. “Are you alright?”
“He needs to be alright before I am.” You said, shuffling to sit up.
“Honey, when you need to gather yourself. He’ll need you.” Niyi said. “You know him. You know each other. Once you have calmed yourself, M’Baku will as well.”
You sighed as you felt warm suddenly. You hummed as you got out of the bed. You exited your room in a hurry just as a guard was walking up. “Lady Y/N, I…Lord M’Baku is…” he started. You walked quickly to the main entrance of the compound and out the door. It was cold but, that didn’t make your shiver nor whimper. You walked down the path until you saw him, leaning on Kaseko.
M’Baku looked up at you and already there was a heavy sigh. You went to his side, the guard stepping back. You let M’Baku lean on you as you escorted him back to the compound. His pride hurt more than his body.
You rubbed the fresh ointment on the cut on his head. You both were silent. Niyi and your mother went home after putting your kids to sleep. M’Baku laid on the bed, having had a bath and the sweat, blood, and troubles of his ordeal washed away. However, whatever had set into his mind was very much stuck and so it was affecting you too.
You placed the bandage over his head and made sure it was secure. “It’ll heal.” You said. “I know you fought well and did your best. You don’t have anything to be ashamed about.”
The silence crept in again after you said it. You felt calm again for what felt like an entirety. You collected the first aid materials you used and stored them away. You came back sitting on the bed, glaring at him. His eyes were soft as he looked at you. Almost as if he was apologizing. He knew but he also knew he was going to have to be vocal. M’Baku swallowed and grabbed your hand. “I’m sorry, yam ivu.” You nodded, unsure what to say or how to react. “I didn’t think…”
“Sssh.” You said. “Just…don’t” you said.
M’Baku sighed. “Y/N, talk to me.”
“I love you.” You said. “But this feeling I got today was not one I want again. I knew it wasn’t the worst, I knew. But it was the pain I got. I don’t want to feel that ever again.”
“I know.” He said.
“I’ll always support you but, I can live without the rest of Wakanda. As long as I have you, I need nothing else.” You said.
“I’m sorry.” He said. You sniffled, laying next to him. He shifted, wrapping his arm over your shoulder and holding you close. “I’m fine. We’re fine.” He said.
There was silence for a moment. You sat laid with each other, taking in each other’s presence. “I thought I could do it. I knew I could. However, it just wasn’t enough.”
“It wasn’t meant for you.” You said. “It’s not Hanuman’s will. Can you accept what you have here?”
“Of course.” He said, looking down at you. “I just…” You looked up at him as he paused.
“You what?” she said.
“I wanted to bring back the value of tradition. I wanted to bring them to the way of life that was right.” He said.
“The Golden City has always operated on their own and evolved. They haven’t been a detriment to us. They leave us alone…let’s leave them to their devices, literally.” You said. M’Baku chuckled in response. “I just need you to understand…I need you here. We have children. And we’ve been together for nine years. Nine whole years that served as what we both say is the best part of your lives. I don’t want to be scared like this again. Scared that you won’t come back to me. I want to make it to old age with you.”
“As do I, yam ivu.” He said. You leaned up, resting a hand on his chest as you glared at him.
“I’m telling you. You are always going to be here with me.” You said.
M’Baku leaned up, making both of you sit up. You both shared a longing kiss. You pulled away as tears started to roll. M’Baku whimpered as he wiped your face with his thumb. “Please, don’t cry. I hate making you cry.”
“M’Baku, just don’t do it again.” You whimpered. “You must always be here. I can’t imagine my life without you. I will be damned if I lose you. You cannot do this again.”
“I won’t, I promise.” He said.
M’Baku held you in his arms as you whimpered. He squeezed his eyes shut fighting his own tears. You held him close as you started to calm down. M’Baku pulled away from you, wiping your tears. “I’ll always be here. I promise.” You nodded as you sniffed, wiping your face.
You were now in a predicament. You and M’Baku were in the throne room, having had a request of you from T’Challa that M’Baku denied. He had left not too long ago and you had ordered a guard and maid to stick close to Queen Mother Ramonda but, you both stayed in the throne room.
“M’Baku…” you said.
He sighed. M’Baku became queasy from your uneasiness. He nodded, looking over at you. “I have a feeling I know what you are going to say.”
“It’s the right thing.” You said. “You know it is, too. You may have repaid your debt but, you should go.”
M’Baku groaned as he stood up. You turned away from the window and put a hand on his back. “You say this is the right thing…but what does this tell him if I do this?”
“I can’t give you that answer but, I can say is that others will know you to be strong and a great warrior. If you help him in his time of need, it will show that Jabari may be able to be trusted after all this time. Plus if this…outsider is as dangerous as he sounds, we won’t be safe either.” You said.
M’Baku nodded as he turned to you. “And what about you? What if…” he started.
“That is up to you to make sure it doesn’t happen again.” You said, sternly. M’Baku smiled, pulling you into him. “I’m telling you, M’Baku. You are going to come back to me.” You began to smile as M’Baku laughed.
“I’ll come back, yam ivu.” He said. “It would be different if you come into battle with me.”
You chuckled. “I believe I have a houseguest and three children to care for.”
M’Baku gave you a soft kiss after chuckling. “I’ll be back, my love.” He said. “Don’t worry.”

Our Love In Color XXVI
A/N: Two more parts after this. Thank you all very much for being with me through this.
Warnings: fluff, slight comedy
You thought it would be nice to have your families over for dinner. M’Baku and his father had become somewhat civil in past few months so you thought it was okay to extend the invitation to him. Monife was pregnant with her and Odunayo’s first child but, they would still be coming.
“So the menu is set for tonight?” you said, picking out of your bowl of fruit. You yawned as you laid across the couch in your quarters.
“Yes.” The assistant said. She watched you strangely sprinkle a spice over them. “Lady Y/N, are you okay?”
“Hm, this has been an off day for me.” You said before slipping a piece of fruit into your mouth. You savored the taste, licking your lips.
“Well, alright. Dinner will be started at 6.” The older woman said before leaving you. She bowed before M’Baku as he entered the room.
“Yam ivu.” He called as he leaned over the couch and planted a kiss on your cheek. “Are you feeling okay?”
“I’m just tired.” You said. M’Baku pressed a hand to your forehead.
“You feel a tad warmer than usual but, it doesn’t feel like a fever. You’ve been lethargic for a few days now. Do you want me to send for some medicine?” he asked.
“No.” you sighed. “I don’t know what it is but, it’ll pass.” M’Baku looked into your bowl and noticed the weird combination of fruit and seasoning in the clay bowl.
“What is that you are eating?” he said.
“It’s good.” You cooed, putting another berry in your mouth. M’Baku chuckled and shook his head.
“You’ve been eating the strangest combination of foods lately. Are you sure you are alright?” he asked.
“Yes, stop asking.” You said, frowning.
“Eish, alright, usana. So, do you know what is coming up in a few days?” M’Baku asked.
You smirked as he came to sit on the couch with you, grabbing your ankles and putting your feet up on his lap. “Yes.” You said.
“I was thinking. We should visit our spot again and watch the sunset.” He said. “We haven’t been there in 2 months and I think it would be a nice to take the evening and head up there. Have a nice one year anniversary picnic.”
“I love that idea.” You said.
M’Baku smiled, leaning in to kiss you. You returned the kiss before pulling away to yawn. “Why don’t you take a short nap?” M’Baku said. “Rest before dinner, my love.”
“Mmm.” You said. “Will you be here when I wake up?”
“Of course.” He said. M’Baku pulled the blanket from over the couch and draped it across you. He moved the bowl away from you, before planting a kiss on your forehead.
Everyone laughed around the dinner table. You rushed back to your seat after having to rush to the bathroom. You felt a tad nauseated but, you felt somewhat better after putting cold water on your face. M’Baku took your hand, kissing it as he chuckled along with the joke your father made. Your sister squinted across the circular table at you. “Y/N, you’re glowing. Did you and M’Baku get engaged and not tell us?” Monife said.
M’Baku chuckled as he took your hand. “No.” you said, rolling your eyes. “Hanuman forbid we do that and not tell you.”
“Probably tell all of the Jabari before we could make the announcement.” M’Baku joked.
“Hey!” Monife said. Odunayo chuckled next to her.
You shook your head at your sister and her antics. One of the servants set down a small bowl of sugar in front of you that you had previously whispered for. You took small spoonfuls of it and put in your food. Niyi looked at you and smirked. Your mother sipped from her cup and motioned to your father to look at you. M’Baku noticed the stares, tapping you. You looked up to see your family glaring at you, curiously and almost as if they knew something you didn’t. “What?” you asked.
“Sweetheart, are you feeling okay?” your father asked.
“Why is everyone asking me that?” you said, chuckling.
“Well, I remembered that when I was pregnant with both you and your sister I craved for anything sweet. Sometimes, things with a little more kick to them.” Your mother said.
Your brows furrowed as you kept your spoon in your bowl. “Alright.” You said, shrugging.
“She’s just had a strange appetite lately.” M’Baku said.
“Hmm.” Monife hummed. “What else?”
“I’ve been a bit tired as of late.” You said. “Going to bed earlier and taking naps in the day.”
“So glowing skin, slight cravings, fatigue.” Niyi said.
“Not to mention, you’ve made quite a few trips to the bathroom since we’ve been here if I may add.” M’Bako said.
You dropped your spoon and lifted your hands in defense. “What is all of this supposed to mean? What are you all trying to say?” you said, getting irritated.
M’Baku looked around the table, puzzled. “I’m sorry, what is going on here?”
“Y/N, honey. Are you sure you aren’t pregnant?” your mother said.
“Pregnant?” you asked. You and M’Baku started to laugh. “No. Pregnant, not a chance.”
M’Baku started to think for a bit then looked at you. You looked over at him and your laughter turned into a nervous chuckle. “Y/N.” Niyi said.
“We aren’t-…No, I’m not pregnant.” You said. M’Baku sat silently as he put two and two together. You felt this chill and haze. Uncertainty. You and M’Baku looked at each other as if you were silently doing the math in each other’s heads. You took a breath as you realized you hadn’t had your period. And of course, you and M’Baku had been extremely intimate since he became Chief. M’Baku gave you a look, pressing his lips together.
You turned away from him in disbelief. You stared into space as you picked up your chalice. Niyi put a soft hand on your wrist, signaling that you should leave your full glass of wine untouched.
First thing in the morning, M’Baku had a physician to the palace to examine you. After a few questions and a blood test, you received your results.
“We’re going to be parents.”
You settled into the curved couch, still in shock. M’Baku leaned over, placing a kiss on your belly. He started to chuckle and looked up at you. “You’re having my child.” He said. You got this warm feeling, smiling. You started to laugh but, tears flooded your eyes. M’Baku sat up, wiping them and kissing you.
You wrapped your arms around his neck as you sighed, happily. “Yam ivu, I can’t tell you how much I love you. You are the best thing that has happened to me. And you are giving me a gift I’ll never receive anywhere else.” M’Baku said.
7 months later
You winced as you gripped the side of the tub. You cried as you felt a contraction. “Y/N, you can do it.” M’Baku said. He leaned down, taking your hands and letting your squeeze them through your contraction. “I believe in you.” He kissed your knuckles as you cried.
“M’Baku.” You whimpered.
“Lady Y/N, on your next contraction, can you push for us?” the physician said. You nodded. Your head dropped to look into the tub of water. You felt another contraction, hissing but, started to push. “Tell us what you feel.”
You shuddered as you took a breath. You nodded as you looked down into the bowl. “I can do it.” You said.
“Breathe, Y/N.” M’Baku said. You nodded, breathing with him until the next contraction came. You pushed, straining yourself. M’Baku gasped as he looked down. “I see his head!” he exclaimed. “Keep pushing, my love.”
You pushed as you saw the black tuft of hair emerge from you and soon you saw the face. You gasped. “M’Baku, look.”
“Keep pushing.” The physician said. “Almost there.”
You took a deep breath, pushing and letting out a small cry. You reached down, placing one hand on the head and the other to catch the back. You felt your baby slip from you and immediately pulled him out the water. “M’Baku, look.”
M’Baku kissed your forehead as you leaned into him. Your baby squirmed and cried in your arms. M’Baku gasped, looking at him. He sniffed as tears rolled down his cheeks. “Oh, he’s so beautiful.” He said in astonishment. “He’s so beautiful.”
You both cried together as you looked down at him. Your child, a physical result of your love. You whimpered as he reached and turned his head, crying. M’Baku chuckled as he wiped his face. He put a soft hand over his head. Your son twisted towards you. “It’s him. It’s our son, M’Baku.”
“It is.” He said. You held him to your chest as if he’d disappear within the moment. Both you got this abundance of warmth. You smiled as M’Baku kissed your cheek, whispering a sweet prayer to Hanuman in your ear.
You looked out the window as it was a light rain tonight. M’Baku looked out the window then back at you. Your son cooed on his bare chest. “What are you thinking about?” he asked.
You looked over at him, a smile coming over your face. “I’m a mother.”
M’Baku smiled over at you. He laid your child in the bassinet. He went over to the dresser, digging something out and coming to sit on the bed with you. “You’re the love of my life. The Chieftess to the Jabari. The mother of my child. And now…I think…I’m hoping you’ll do me the honor of becoming my wife.” M’Baku said. You heard the click of the wooden box. You looked down and saw a ring. The gem of it was white, almost like a pearl.
You looked up at M’Baku, tears welling up in your eyes. “Really?”
“I’ve been wanting to ask since before we were coronated.” M’Baku said, taking the ring out of the box. You offered him your left hand as you sniffled. M’Baku placed the ring on your left ring finger. You laughed as you looked at it. You leaned in, wrapping your arms around his neck and letting the tears roll. M’Baku buried his nose in the crook of your neck, his own tears leaving his eyes.
“I love you so much.” You said.
“You’re all I ever wanted.” He whispered.
You didn’t speak as light sobs left your mouth. You looked over at your son, sleeping in his bassinet. “And just think…all because you bumped into me.”
“I think you bumped into me, first.” He joked.

Our Love In Color XXVIII
A/N: Thanks again for making this so fun to write. The finale is the next part. The reader is Black and Plus-sized.
You sat on the blanket, looking over the horizon. You turned back looking at your children. Afia was holding the hands of your youngest son, Zuberi. She gently guided him as through the chalk boxes for hopscotch. You laughed as Bosede and Tuma were trying to carve into the wood in the opening of the cave. They told jokes to each other as they were careful with their knives. You jumped silently as you felt a kick. M’Baku looked over at you, putting a hand on your belly. “He’s active today.” You said.
M’Baku kissed your cheek before kissing your belly. “He doesn’t have much longer.”
You giggled as M’Baku fed you an orange slice. “What do you think of a name this time?” you asked.
“Wekasa.” He said. “He’ll be born during harvest so why not?”
“I like that.” You said.
“Mama!” Afia said as she walked over to you.
“Yes, my princess.” You said as sat in between you and M’Baku.
“What color is the sky now?” she asked.
“Yeah tell us.” Bosede said.
M’Baku chuckled as his sons gathered around him. He looked at you as you peered out. You sighed and looked down at them. “It’s just before sunset. So, there is still some blue. The yellow is coming in.”
“The sun is a gold shade. Bright and warm.” M’Baku said.
“When it is sunset, the sky will be a mix of red, orange, blue. Maybe even purple.” You said.
“When will we see, Baba?” Tuma asked as he leaned on M’Baku’s shoulder.
M’Baku looked over at you. “Well…you’ll have to find your soulmate. But when you do…it’ll be like an awakening. Like coming out of a deep sleep. Everything just changes.” He said.
“And it’ll be when you least expected it. You could just run into them one day.” You said, shrugging.
“But what does it feel like?” Tuma asked.
“Clarity. For your mother and I…it was like a warmth that starts in your chest and radiates through you.” M’Baku said.
You looked over at him. That loving warmth in your chest came back as if on cue. “Everyone is different but, it’s the most wonderful feeling in the world. It’ll be when you least expected it, but your life will be forever changed.” You pressed your lips together, trying to hold your happiness in but, M’Baku’s grin turned into a big smile. You held hands behind your kids and looked back out to the horizon. The sun beamed on you, highlighting everyone’s skin. Your family seemed to glow. You pulled on Afia’s braids and picked a pebble out of Zuberi’s hair. M’Baku kept staring at you, amazed by your beauty. This was all he ever wanted. To be loved and be in love. It was because of you he got it.
Just think, all you did was bump his shoulder.
The children were all gone to bed and you and M’Baku had prepared for bed. You smiled as he kissed your neck. “I love you.” He said.
“Oh? Do tell.” You said.
“I love you. As I live and breathe, you are the greatest gift Hanuman can ever give me.” He said. He leaned down and kissed your belly. “And you just keep giving.”
You giggled as you rubbed his head. He leaned up and held you close. “I love you too.” You said.
“I will be forever grateful for you. I couldn’t imagine my life without you.” He said.
“And I you.” You said.
“Tell me, you’ll always be here.” M’Baku said, before kissing your forehead.
“I’ll always be here.” You said. “This is us. We have forever.”
“Y/N, I don’t know how else I can tell you.” M’Baku said.
“And I know.” You said. “You don’t have to tell me anything.”
“But, I always will. Because I love you.” M’Baku said.
M’Baku leaned in and kissed you. You kissed back, embracing him. The warmth taking over your chest. M’Baku held you close, taking you in. You pulled away. “Let’s go to bed. Before Wekasa starts moving and keeps me up at night.”
M’Baku chuckled as he lifted you up and carried you to bed.

Our Love In Color XXII
A/N: Finally, I can get this part out! Thank you for sticking with this. The reader is black and plussized
Warnings: none...maybe fluff.
Translation: Mbonge le ntombi-bless this woman, Mbonge wam umfazi-bless my woman
You were wired. You could barely sleep the night before. You tossed and turned, even rubbed yourself down with a calming oil but, you remained awake for the majority of the night. M’Baku was no doubt the cause of your stress. You got this burst of energy like someone shocked you or you had actually slept. You sat on your bed, closing your eyes to attempt to mediate. You began to settle and relax. Your shoulders dropped and your muscles released themselves. You felt a calmness wash over you. You wished you could whisper in M’Baku’s ear to comfort him.
You got up and began to check your trunk again. Doing final checks and pulling out the small offering for Hanuman. You used your new carving skills to create a rose with phrasing edged into the petals. You placed it inside your small purse. You had everything you needed so the only thing you needed to do for the moment was to do your morning routine. You washed your face, prepping your skin, brushed your teeth and unwrapped hair. You fluffed your hair and got dressed in something light as you would have to change within the next few hours.
You crept into your parents’ room. “Are you awake?” you whispered.
Your mother’s head move and turn towards you. “You’re leaving?” she croaked.
“Yes. You know what time to be there?” you asked.
“We’ll be there.” She said. “Tell Niyi and M’Baku hello for us.”
“Love you.” You said, leaving and shutting their door. There was a heavy knock at the door and you came down to answer it. 3 Jabari guards were at the door. They were young so they had to be out of M’Baku’s new troop.
“Lady Y/N, we’ve come to escort you to the grand shrine of Hanuman. Is your trunk ready?” one asked.
“Yes. Upstairs, the second door of the first hallway.” You said, letting two guards in. They quickly came downstairs with the trunk. You locked the door behind you and left with them. It was still dark outside. The sun wouldn’t be up for another hour and the wind provided a sharp chill to the air.
M’Baku stood outside, back pressed a boulder and eyes closed. He had to steady his breathing. He was fighting to not get too excited or anxious about the day. He’d found himself breathing and letting a peace wash over him.
“M’Baku.” Niyi called. M’Baku snapped out of his trance, looking at you as you walked up. He met you halfway.
“Hi.” You said. You both opened your arms to each other. M’Baku craned his neck to kiss you. You kissed back, almost surprised by the passion in it. You could tell he needed something to keep him anchored. You’d be that and more for the day. You pulled away and cupped his face. “You made it, my love. This is your day.”
“Our day. I wouldn’t have gotten here without you.” He said. “This is just as much yours as it is mine.”
There was a clearing of a throat that forced the both of you to turn and look at who it was coming from. The priestess stood with the two elders, both in sacred garb. M’Baku took your hand, placing it on his bicep as he guided you. The two elders walked in front of you, going up the path. The sun began to rise and pick over the clouds. The sky was the perfect mix of a reddish gold to blue. You and M’Baku made points to look at it on your walk. You both felt warm, the familiar comfort feeling being in each other’s company. The pathway was decorated with bowls of wax with candles in them. There was a faint chanting up ahead. Your heart began to beat fast and M’Baku squeezed your hand. You ascended the short wooden steps.
The temple was open but under this grand arch with engravings was the monument for Hanuman. The giant wood carved gorilla with white detailing. The alter he stood on was lined with small candles and other offerings that were placed there the night before. The elders stood on each side of you, letting you both kneel before the altar. The priestess stood at the altar, doing one chant and then turning to the both of you.
“Hanuman, we’ve come before you today on this momentous occasion. The Jabari, of whom you blessed with the sacred tree and wood, will take a new Chief and Chieftess. We ask that you bless them. Bring wisdom to our new Chief. Allow him to lead our people the way you would have them led. Let every decision be the best for his people. Let the Chieftess be the ultimate consort and ally in his efforts. Allow this woman to be the same symbol her man is. Give her the abundance of strength to lead along our Chief. Allow them to see this a joint affair, that they must be in harmony. Make their bond unbreakable and allow their marriage to be fruitful.”
Both you and M’Baku closed your eyes as the priestess placed one thumbprint of oil on your foreheads. You repeated the chant back to her before opening your eyes and looking up to the statue of Hanuman. You pulled the offering from your purse, cupping it your hands like it would fall to pieces if you didn’t treat it with all the care in the world. You stood up and placed it at the altar. You looked at the statue. It was intimidating but, welcoming. Hanuman stood warding off any ill intentions you may have faced and now protecting you and M’Baku.
You walked into the fire lit room. The walls were more stone carved with hard concrete like flooring. You kneeled on the folded pad, putting the wide, large bowl of a mixture of oil and paint in front of you. You looked around at the other women with their bowls of paint, covering the men in front of them. Their chest bare and dressed in patterns of white. Some began to file out after their faces were painted. Your nails scratched against the loincloth skirt. You skin itched slightly as the paint began to dry.
You heard footsteps come behind you, heavy and proud. You closed your eyes, pressing your lips together and knowing it was him. M’Baku circled around you and kneeled in front of you. You opened your eyes and gave him a small smile. He couldn’t fight, returning it but, you both focused on what needed to be done. You brought the bowl closer and dipped your hands in, being careful to not stain the wraps around your wrists. You reared up on your knees, beginning to coat his shoulders and down his pectoral muscles. You tried to coat his body evenly with the substance as your hands traveled down his arms, glazing over his armband tattoos. You instructed him to turn as you dipped back into the bowl. You rubbed the mixture over his back and some down his sides.
Everything felt calm so you knew he was going to be okay. He snook a kiss to the back of his ear making him chuckle. “We’re almost through.” You whispered.
“I know.” He whispered back. Your heart fluttered and there were suddenly knots in your stomach.
“I’m excited too.” You said, picked up the chalk powder. “You finally did it.”
“We did it.” He said, looking back at you. “Us, together. This is ours.”
You patted him in the chalk, coating his body. When you were done, you leaned back, making sure you hadn’t missed a spot. M’Baku, in his present form, resembled the great White Gorilla of legend. “You’re ready.” You said, proudly. M’Baku pulled you up. You welcomed the passionate kiss, reveling at this moment. You kissed back, careful to place your hands on your shoulders to not disrupt your work. M’Baku pulled away but, hugged you and keeping his cheek to yours.
You both stood there in silence like you were the only ones in the room, the world even. You settled in the embrace, feeling each other’s body. The warmth that always accompanied the two of you when you touched or thought about each other, enveloped you. It was like being in a pocket of fire but, your skin wasn’t burning. It wasn’t a harsh licking. It was like being wrapped and tucked into a thick blanket, your muscles submitting to relaxation and your soul welcoming the sensation that came with it.
You stood just a few feet from the opening of the cave. Light broke it, making the cave not as stuffy and humid. Niyi’s painted hand, touched your shoulder. You turned to her, giving her a hug. She pulled away, smiling at you.
“I’m so proud of you.” She said. “Are you excited?”
“I don’t want to get too riled up.” You said, sheepishly.
“I understand. Let loose at the celebration, you’ve both earned it.” Niyi said.
“What about you? Are you…” you started. Niyi took your hands, shaking her head with her braids waving with her.
“Don’t worry about me. We’ll talk about that later. This day is a joyous one. Let’s focus on that.” She said. You nodded. There was call, a battle cry even. A loud acknowledgment of M’Bako walking up to you, causing those in the corridor to turn and give one last salute to him.
“Lady Y/N, I’m happy this day has come for you and my son.” He said.
“As am I.” you said with a small smile.
“You’ll be a great Chieftess. I wish you and M’Baku the best.” M’Bako said, bowing his head.
“Thank you.” You sighed. M’Bako held out his hand to you, a kind gesture. You took it, the better part of you settle with whatever relationship you would now have with him but, reminding yourself to limit it. You pulled away as your mother and father walked up. Welcoming a hug from both of them. You exchanged phrases of endearment before a loud, bellowing horn went off.
“It is time.” M’Bako said.
M’Bako and Niyi were first in the procession with you in the middle by yourself and your parents behind you. The loud drums began signaling for you to walk out. You took a breath and walked behind Niyi and M’Bako. You squint slightly as the light hit your eyes. You winced but, after you gained your entire sight you were introduced to a marvelous sight.
The sacred pit known to the Jabari as the Isangqa was the place for all major duels, demonstrations and the crowning of the new Chief and Chieftess. The base was once wood but, time covered it with mud and the eroded rock around it was carved and molded for seats or parts to stand on. You continued to emerge from the cave opening adorned with carvings of gorillas and patterns engraved in the wall. There was cheering as you emerged. You had never seen this many Jabari congregated for one event. Of course, this was no small thing. Everyone wanted to welcome their new leader.
Your family, M’Baku’s and Kaseko’s took their places at the very bottom, a loud drum silencing everyone. The drums rang in your ear and even making you jump a little. There was a loud horn, yet again. There was a faint grunting that became louder and louder.
Your heart began to skip beats, your core tightening and turning flips. Everyone’s eyes were locked onto the entrance but, you more than anyone. Like something was gluing your eyes to the entrance in complete anticipation. You found yourself, biting your lip almost in arousal.
There was a loud call, M’Baku’s voice boomed from the cave. The men in front of him, grunting to mimic that of a gorilla. They slowly emerged from the cave their voices echoing against the mountains, very intimidatingly so. Each male came out dressed in a grass skirt with fur underneath, white patterns on their bare chests and arms. One presenting themselves slowly after the other. M’Baku’s voice became louder, a lot more demanding. You didn’t notice that you were on your toes, the balls of your feet aching as you rocked back on them.
The drums went along with each yell. M’Baku stepped out, the other men accompanying him parted and let him step through. M’Baku’s shoulders were back and for afar, he looked intimidating. M’Baku rolled his head along his shoulders, a loud grunt coming for him. He walked through the line, presenting himself in front of the line.
“On this blessed day, we have come to witness the ascension! The rise of a new chief! A new era has come to pass by the grace of Hanuman!” the elder yelled to the crowd. “M’Baku, being born into his right, will now lead his people. A symbol of how we have thrived in years prior and how we will thrive in the future.”
There was a loud applause. M’Baku looked up amongst the people. He had to fight to smile. This was finally a reality. He didn’t think this was real and had to be a dream. However, it was when he looked over at you that he knew it was real.
“We call forth in this moment M’Baku’s betrothed, Y/N and current Chieftess, Niyi.” The elder said. Niyi helped you down the step and brought you forward. You were brought into the pit and stood at M’Baku’s left. You turned to face the elder. “Glory to Hanuman, our Chief has found a true companion. His mate. His confidant.  Also a symbol to the rest of the Jabari. A strong woman. A brave woman.” The elder stepped to you and bowl in his hands with a greyish clay. He dipped two knuckles into it and transferred the paint onto your forehead. Niyi came in front of you, a choker of shells in her hands. One much like the one she was wearing now expect new and a lot more shells on the strings. You tilted your chin up giving her ample room to place it on your neck.
“We ask Hanuman to bless this woman and her family. Let her have a clear mind and guide our Chief. Let her be the symbol we need. Let others follow in her footsteps. Bless her heart, grant her good health, bless her womb to produce for more generations. Bless this woman. Mbonge le ntombi.” The elder spoke to the crowd. The crowd repeated back to him. You heard M’Baku’s voice as well.
“Mbonge wam umfazi” he said tenderly. You smiled at him and sucked in your lips at the urge to kiss him.
Kaseko was brought down next. He was read his rights as M’Baku’s second in command and received his honor. His knobkerrie, purposely crooked and slightly shorter than him. A prayer was said for him as well.
It was then that two boxes were brought forward, one long and one more square shape. M’Baku’s stance shifted. He was no longer just standing, his head was tilted higher, his shoulder’s square and his eyes were full of pride. You peered at him. You itched to touch him but, you wouldn’t dare ruin this for him.
“Finally, we’ve come to present our Chief with his rights.” The elder said. M’Bako stepped out from his place in the audience and went to the long box. “We’ve watched you grow from a boy to a man. Now a man to leader. You, M’Baku, as the Lord of the tribe will lead us to prosper. To greatness.” The box was opened and M’Bako presented his son with the knobkerrie. Long, polished. One shrap end and one rounded and heavy looking. “This is your time.” M’Baku took the staff into his hands, marveling at it at first and then putting it to the mud, a loud clank coming with it.
“I couldn’t be more proud.” M’Bako whispered to him. M’Baku acknowledged with a look and a small nod. The elder approached with a mask. The clear features of a gorilla with other markings in it. M’Baku stood still as the mask was placed on him.
Once it was placed, the elder and everyone else backed away leaving the three of you to be center attention in the pit. “I know present to you…Kaseko, the Chief’s lieutenant, Y/N, our chieftess and Lord M’Baku, chief of the Jabari.”
Everyone cheered making your ears ring. You felt M’Baku’s hand snake around yours. You smiled as you looked over at your family who were clapping. Things were really changing.

Our Love In Color XX
A/N: I don’t know why I had been holding this part hostage for so long but, here it is. Thank you all for reading this. There is a high possibility that this will be ending soon. I have contemplated doing just HCs and imagines specifically for this AU. If that is something you want, let me know. One more thing...reader is Black and Plussized
Warnings: fluff, some comedy...or at least I hope y’all laugh, plot progression
Translation: yam ivu-my rose
You got up at the earliest you could to stare at the chest piece. You took a sigh, realizing your vision had come through. The small triangles and diagonal lines below the breast line. The simple yet equisite design that you did all by yourself. You surprised yourself with the artistry of it. You nodded your head, dusting off the excess and admiring the glaze on it.
M’Baku stared out the window of his room. His heart was beating fast as he only had so little time between now and his installation. Two weeks, he told himself. Two weeks and he was going to be Chief. He took a deep breath, steadying his own heart. He smiled feeling this giddiness. He heard your footsteps coming to the door. There was a faint knock announcing your arrival. “It’s open.” He said.
You opened the door and walked in. “Hey.” You said, walking in. You dropped your bag at the door and carried the wrapped chest piece and a garment bag further into the room.
“Hey.” He said walking up to you and planting a kiss on your cheek. “Can I see it?”
“No.” You said, moving the wrapped chest piece away from him. “You are supposed to receive it at the dinner tonight. I worked really hard on this. I don’t want you ruining the surprise.”
“Is it really a surprise if I know I’m receiving it?” M’Baku said.
“Yes, it is.” You said. “You’ve been so impatient lately. What has gotten into you?”
“A lot is happening. You don’t think I jumped into this too fast?” M’Baku said sitting on the bed. You set the chest piece aside with your belongings and cupped his face. You felt his uneasy. A shakiness coming over your hands and a chill in your feet.
“M’Baku, this is your time. You were born for this. This was as good of time as any. Niyi is proud of you. I’m sure the Chief is proud. The tribe is proud. I am proud of you.” You said. “There is nothing in your way.”
M’Baku wrapped his arms around your waist and buried his face in your chest. He took another deep breath. “I love you so much.”
“I love you, too.” You hummed.
“Y/N.” he said.
“Hm?” you responsed. He pulled away slightly and looked up at you, eyes soft.
“I have something…I want to talk to you about it. I have no idea when I should do this but, if I don’t do it now, I may never do it.” M’Baku said. He got up and walked over to his large dresser. He pulled out one of the small drawers and pulled out a small box.
“What is that?” you asked.
M’Baku came back, sat on the bed and opened the box, presenting to you the shiny ring with the wood grain in it. He looked up to you and kissed your knuckles. “This ring is an heirloom, passed from generations. It was always worn by the Chieftess or the woman who would be Chieftess.” He said. “It goes without saying that it’s yours…if you’ll have it.”
“Oh, M’Baku.” You said, studying it. “Yes.”
M’Baku smiled, placing it on your right ring finger. It was a tad loose but, you were going to take extra care that it wouldn’t fall off. “Do you like it?” he asked.
“Yes, I like it.” You said. You leaned in and gave him a kiss.
“Good. You have your attire for the dinner tonight?” he asked.
“Yes and Mama had a field day making alterations to it.” You said.
“What’s in your backpack? It looks heavy.” He said.
“Well, I figured if it was a dinner and social like Niyi told me then it would run late. There would be no point in me going home in the dead of night. I figured…you’d have no problem if I were to spend the night.” You said with a coy smile on my face.
M’Baku returned your smile, grabbing you by your waist and pulling you on top of him. You gave him a kiss, giggling as his hands squeezed your butt.
The dinner and gala was full of people from the tribe. Some you hadn’t seen before, others were acquaintances or people you have chatted with passing by. You had never been introduced to so many people and it was a good thing you weren’t required to remember their names at this moment. You smiled and conversed with M’Baku as he spoke with others. Your family opted out of coming once your father came down with a common cold. You tried to enlist your sister but, she declined to be with her husband instead. Everything seemed so fast pace, you didn’t really get a down period until dinner was about to be served. The table set up was a big rectangle in the grand dining room. Everyone talked in their respective areas. You sat between M’Baku and a council member but, the council member was busy with another conversation.
M’Baku placed his hand in yours as he nodded along to a conversation with the Chief and another member of the council. You sipped from your water cup as you looked over at Jolasun, smiling at her.
“Wine, ma’am?” a server asked you. You nodded and watched as she filled your glass, almost a little too much. However, it was not going to go to waste. M’Baku looked over at you as you sipped the wine and winced.
“Have you drank before, yam ivu?” M’Baku asked.
“Of course, I have. It’s just been a minute.” You said going back for another swallow.
“Sip slow.” He said, pulling the cup from you. “Jabari liquor is extremely strong. You don’t want to drink too much on an empty stomach.”
“Okay, I got this.” You laughed.
“I know. I just don’t want to be scooping you off the floor at the end of the night.” He said, wiping your chin with his thumb. You both chuckled.
There was the tap of the Chief’s knobkerrie, beckoning everyone to give him their attention. He nodded at you as you gave him a slight smile. “I would like to thank everyone for coming tonight. We celebrate M’Baku taking the throne. He will usher in a new era of the Jabari and carry out the will of Hanuman for his years to come. I, as his father, cannot express how proud I truly am.”
M’Baku squinted his eyes and bit his lip. He looked down at his lap and then at you. You squeezed his hand a little tighter before looking back at his father. “It is at this time…I would like to present M’Baku with his chest piece, created by his betrothed and the future Chieftess, Y/N.”
A large box was escorted in, carried on a platform by two guards. M’Baku stood, leaning over the table to receive the box from them. A server moved the china from his placemat just before he set the box down. He remained standing, looking to you with a smile. You bit your lip with excitement. Your toes dug into your shoes as you tried to stay in your seat. M’Baku let out a short laugh, looking at you. M’Baku moved the latch on the box and lifted the top of it. He smiled, looking down into the box and looking over at you.
M’Baku pulled the chest piece from the box, presenting first to the Chief and Niyi and then to the crowd. Everyone marveled at it and clapped. M’Baku turned it back to himself, glancing over all the small details, taking them in as quick as he could.
You met M’Baku’s gaze as his smile grew wider. He opened his hand to you. You took it, letting him pull you up. He kissed your hand and went to kiss your cheek. You found his voice in your ear. “Thank you so much, yam ivu. I knew you could do it.”
You laughed and looked out to the other seated people, giving small smiles. You looked over at Jolasun who was clapping especially hard.
Dinner went on with small talk and smiles. You sipped slow like M’Baku said but, your sips were more like gulps. You started to tingle and the room seemed like it was swaying. M’Baku watched you try to put the chalice back in it’s place but, ended up bumping the bottom of it on the plate, spilling some. Your movements stuttered but, you eventually got it where it needed to be.
“Are you alright?” he whispered.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be? We’re just having dinner.” You said, slurring.
“What?” M’Baku said, scrunching up his face.
“Sssh.” You said, putting your finger to your lips.
M’Baku laughed at your behavior. The dinner closed and everyone got to do their last bit of mingling before they departed.
“Where’s Y/N?” Niyi asked. “I haven’t seen her since she left the table.”
“I’m not sure.” M’Baku said, looking over the crowd. He spotted you, with your arm around Jolasun and your chalice in your hand. Your eyes were low and your shoulders were slacked. He laughed and shook his head.  By the time M’Baku walked over, Lesedi had bursted into laughter at something you said.
“You two are so beautiful. Wow, you’re glowing.” You said, wavering. Jolasun struggled to keep you up. “Everything was so nice tonight. I’m glad you both came.”
“Yam ivu.” M’Baku called, creeping up behind you. You jumped, almost spilling the wine on the floor and yourself.
“M’Baku! Guys, it’s M’Baku!” you cooed. You opened your arms and wrapped around his torso, your cheek pressed to his side. “Mmm.”
“Looks like you will have your hands full tonight.” Jolasun said.
“Oh, he’s going to have more than just his hands full tonight.” You slurred. Lesedi chuckled as she took Jolasun’s hand.
“Hey, relax.” M’Baku said. “Can I take this from you?” M’Baku grabbed your wrist as you were on the verge of dropping the chalice. Thankfully, most of the guests had gone home and no one was focused on your sloppy behavior.
“Sure. Take whatever you want.” You giggled.
“We’re going to leave you to it.” Jolasun said, motioning to your behavior.
He looked down, chuckling at your swaying and small stumbles. “Thank you for coming.” M’Baku said. “I really appreciate it.”
“Of course.” Jolasun said. “I’m so happy for you. It’s all coming together. Enjoy this, M’Baku.”
“Oh, he’s going to enjoy this. Enjoy every bit of it.” You hummed, throwing your head back.
“Okay, we’re going to go.” Lesedi said. “Have a good night.” Lesedi and Jolasun left the banquet room, waving goodbye. You waved so childlike that M’Baku couldn’t help but, laugh.
“Now, you…mister.” You said. “What are we going to do?”
M’Baku picked you up bridal style and carried you to his room. Carrying you through the hall was full of laughter and meaningless conversation.
“I’m so proud. My soulmate is going to be Chief of the tribe. The Great Gorilla! Lord M’Baku of the mighty Jabari. I’m so proud.” You laughed, getting obnoxiously louder. “I’m proud. Parents proud. Tribe proud. Pride, pride, pride. We’re rooting for you! We’re all rooting for you!” M’Baku laughed and hushed you from trying to scream.
M’Baku turned the corner to get to his room. “What am I going to do with you?” You giggled, kicking your feet. “We’re going to get you ready for bed.”
“Oh, come on. Let’s do something fun.” You moaned. M’Baku set you down on the bed. You rolled on your side then, wavered to sit up straight. M’Baku stood in front of you, trying to figure out how to take off your dress. Your hands crept to the buckle of his belt, pulling on it.
“Nope. Uh-uh.” M’Baku said, grabbing your wrists.
“Please, I want to try again.” You slurred.
“No, not while you’re drunk.” He said, shaking his head.
“But, just like this morning. If we don’t do it now, we’ll never do it.” You said, sitting on your knees. You wrapped your arms around his neck, practically throwing yourself on him. “Please. It’ll be okay. Let’s just try.”
“Y/N, come on. We have to get you ready for bed. Is your hair wrap in your bag?” M’Baku said.
“M’Baku, please. I want you inside me.” You moaned. You whispered in his ear in the most seductive voice you can muster. “I want every inch.”
M’Baku eyes widen as he felt himself growing slightly, but he couldn’t do that to you. “Y/N. Lay down.”
“Mmm. Are you going to use your mouth again?” you cooed laying back on the bed. “Or can I use mine this time?”
“I’m taking your shoes off.” He said.
“Why stop there? Take it all off.” You said. You arched your back, reaching underneath you to undo the back of your dress. “I’ll make it easy for you.”
“Are your pajamas in your bag?” M’Baku asked. He left you on the bed to get your backpack from the corner, opening it. He pulled out your hair wrap and your night shirt. He turned and saw you in your tube bra and shorts. You bit your lip glaring at him. M’Baku marveled at the curves of your body and his fingers wanted to remove your bra and fondle with your breasts. Your shorts rode up your thighs and made you look even more appetizing. He clutched your clothes in his fist, fighting the urge. His length pressed between his thigh and the fabric of his clothes.
“MBaku.” You called before biting your lip. “You can leave that in the bag. We won’t be needing it.” You grabbed the top of your bra and began to pull it down. M’Baku rushed across the room and grabbed your wrists, pinning you to the bed.
“No. You need to sleep it off.” M’Baku said, trying to practice discipline. “Put your hands over your head, please.”
You pouted, following his requests. M’Baku quickly put your shirt on you, trying not to focus on your body.
“You’re boring. Boo.” You whined.
“I’m not going to take advantage of you like this.” He said. “You’re going to sleep it off and we’ll talk in the morning. Let me put your head wrap on.”
M’Baku took the patterned silk sash and began to wrap it around you head, not disrupting the puff at the back of your head. You touched your head and smacked your lips. “You didn’t do it right!”
M’Baku jumped back and furrowed his brows. “I’m sorry. Do you want do it?”
“Move.” You groaned. You struggled to find the knot. “What did you do?”
“I tied how you tied it.” M’Baku said.
“No, you didn’t! What the hell did you do?” you cried.
M’Baku laughed as he guided your hands to the knot. “See. I did it how you do it.”
“Okay.” You sighed. You sat silently for a moment as M’Baku watched you. Your eyes fluttered for a second, making M’Baku think you were getting sleepy.
“You ready to lay down?” he asked.
“Are you going to lay down with me?” you asked. “You haven’t taken your clothes off, yet.”
“I wanted to make sure you were settled.” M’Baku said. You hummed something before wrapping your arms around his neck and sighing. You pulled him in, your thighs hugging his hips. Your head laid against his chest. He felt you relax on him, like you were conceding. “Come on.”
M’Baku pulled his cover and sheets back. He moved the pillow so it would cradle your head nicely. You crawled lazily to your spot. You laid on your side, letting M’Baku drape you. “When are you coming to bed?” you sighed.
“Soon. I’ll be right there, yam ivu.” He said. Your eyes closed, succumbing to whatever form of slumber came over you.
M’Baku took a cold shower to ease his tensions and dressed himself for bed. He shut the grand double doors and dimmed the lights of the room. You still laid sleeping softly in the same spot he left you. M’Baku smiled, easing himself under the covers and wrapping an arm around your waist. He kissed the back of your neck and nozzled in with you.
“I love you.” You muttered.
M’Baku eyes snapped open and chuckled lovingly. “I love you too.”
You stirred and groaned as you woke up. The light peaking in made you wince as you clutched your head. You heard footsteps move around the room, making you look in the direction they were coming from. M’Baku closed the wood shades on all the windows before coming back to the bed. “Good morning, yam ivu.” He said softly, sleep still in his voice making sound even more gruff. The sound of his voice would have aroused you but, with this headache you had none of that was going to happen.
“Good morning.” You groaned. “My head hurts.” M’Baku leaned over planting a kiss on your forehead.
“I can send for some medicine.” He said, going towards the door. He whispered something outside to someone and returned when the quick conversation was done.
“I’m sorry. I know this night meant a lot to you.” You huffed as he got back into the bed with you.
“You didn’t ruin anything. Besides, I believe the first night we shared a bed I cried in your arms.” M’Baku said. “I’d say we were even.”
You chuckled. “I only remember bits and pieces. Was I terrible?” you asked.
“Aside from being loud and sexually aggressive? Not at all.” He chuckled.
“I’m sorry.” You groaned, covering your face.
M’Baku grabbed your hands and kissed the ring he placed on your finger barely 24 hours ago. “You don’t have to be sorry. It was quite comical.”
You chuckled, cuddling up to him. You checked your headwrap and smiled. “You wrapped my hair!”
“And you were adamant that I didn’t do it right.” He laughed.
“You did it right.” You said, fumbling with the bow of it. You settled looking over at him. “So how does it feel, waking up next to me bright and early?”
“I love it.” He said, running a thumb over his cheek. “You’re beautiful when you sleep. When you wake up. When you’re drunk.” You rolled your eyes at his response.
“Please don’t.” you said.
“Seriously.” M’Baku said. “Yesterday was great. Giving you the heirloom, getting my armor that you made, having to take care of you while you’re intoxicated. I wouldn’t have it anyother way.” You leaned in, kissing him. M’Baku, cupping your face, deepened it. You pulled away, smiling.
“Now, what is really going to be funny is you having to take care of me drunk.” M’Baku said.
“Uh, see. Here you go.” You groaned.

Our Love In Color XVIII
A/N: I hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday and I wish you well for the new year. The reader is Black and Plus sized, act accordingly.
Warnings: Fluff, plot progression
Translation: Yam ivu- my rose, Ku lungile- Fine, Uxolo- sorry,
“I have a major project for you.” M’Baku said as he cut the apple you were sharing. You both got to sneak away for the morning before you had to commit the rest of the day to your duties. M’Baku sat cross-legged on the ground as you sat on the rock. It really began to feel like spring outside with a modest breeze.
“That is?” you asked, putting the canteen of water by him.
“It’s a tradition in the Jabari. The closest woman, in most cases the should-be wife and Chieftess, to the Chief before his ceremony would create his armor. Carve or chip a design into it, glaze it.” M’Baku said as he passed you the piece he cut. “It would only be right that you do it.”
“I’d be honored. But, I didn’t exactly master in woodwork.” You said after swallowing. “Could Niyi help me?”
“It would have to be you and only you. It doesn’t have to be extravagant.” He said, looking at you but, continuing to carve out another piece of apple. “It’s more of a right of passage…at least one of them for the Chieftess.”
You sighed and pressed your lips together, looking out over the Jabari land from you and M’Baku’s spot on the mountain. “What have the other armor pieces looked like?”
“You only have to do the chest piece. I bring you to the Umkhosi Hall so you can see the other pieces for reference. I know you can do it.” He said, taking your hand. “You are more capable of doing things than you realize, yam ivu. Stop being so scared and unsure.”
“I don’t want to mess things up and be looked down upon.” You said.
“The council is amazed by you. In the past two meetings, you’ve participated and held their attention. The Chief can’t even deny you. You are doing great.” M’Baku said, standing up and kissing your cheek. He fed you a piece of the apple, letting you bite a piece before taking the rest into his mouth. “We are nearing the coronation. This is one of the last things you have to do.”
“Okay…won’t I have to do measurements for you or something?” you asked.
“Come on.” M’Baku said, smiling.
M’Baku let you walk through the hall looking at the mannequins dressed in armor. “Only the chest piece, right?” she asked.
“Yes, only the chest piece. The rest will be tailored to how you do it. It doesn’t have to be elaborate.” He said.
“Well, you have to like it.” You said, turning to him.
“I’ll appreciate whatever you give me.” He said, planting a kiss on your cheek. “Have any ideas?”
“I think…but it matters how I execute it though.” You said.
“You’ll do great, I know.” M’Baku said. “Let’s do my measurements, eh?”
M’Baku stood before you in his bedroom as you fumbled with the soft measuring table. You pressed the table over his chest but, his chest bucked as he started to chuckle. “What?” you said, trying to keep yourself from laughing.
“Just looking at you.” He said. “You’re so serious.”
“Isn’t this serious? Or would like to go into your battles bare?” you chuckled.
“Wouldn’t be the first time.” M’Baku said, straightening himself out. You looked up at him, head cocked as you study him with the tape dropping in between your fingers. You fought the smile coming over your lips as you wanted to play along. M’Baku started to chuckle. “Kidding! I’m only kidding, yam ivu.”
“You better stop otherwise, I’ll never get this done.” You said, picking up the tape and placing it back on his chest. You went to the bed and wrote the number on the slip of paper. You went behind him and lifted his bulky arms. You strained slightly to get the tape around his torso, earning a boisterous laugh from him. “M’Baku! Yeka! Do you want this done or not?”
“Ku lungile, Ku lungile, yam ivu.” He chuckled. You wrapped the tape around his torso and got the measurement. You went to write it down. You were bent over the bed when you felt a pinch on your left ass cheek. You whipped around to slap at M’Baku’s hand.
“M’Baku!” you cried. He lifted his hands as if he was innocent. “You have got some nerve in you today!”
“Uxolo. I’ll stop. I promise.” He said. “Come finish.”
You went to M’Baku again measuring his shoulders. Again, you went behind your back and waited. You pressed your lips together as held in your laugh. “Y/N?” M’Baku called.
You delivered a firm slap on his rear. He turned to you with a look of shock on his face. You laughed as he looked you up and down. “Now, what?” you challenged.
“Now, we have to see what has gotten into you!” M’Baku said. He picked you up, throwing you over his shoulder and tossing you on the bed. You gasped as you tried to regain composure but, M’Baku pinned your hands above your head. You both fell into a deep kiss. You moaned in his mouth and his tongue slipped and started to dance with yours. Your legs hugged his waist, drawing him further. You moved your head, pulling away from him.
“Uh uh, not today. I have your chest piece to get started on.” You said.
“You can do that tomorrow.” M’Baku whined.
“No, get up. Mama has work to do.” You said, pushing him off. M’Baku gave an exasperated growl as he rolled over and laid spread out on his bed cover.
“Can you just stay? Let’s just have a lazy day, please.” He said.
“If you wanted a lazy day, you shouldn’t have dropped this on my lap. I’ll be back tomorrow once I’ve started on it.” You said. You leaned in for a goodbye kiss but, M’Baku stared at the ceiling with his lips tucked in. “Oh, come on, you big gorilla baby.”
M’Baku smacked his lips and playfully puckered his lips. You flicked him in his nose, making him hiss. You stole your kiss and quickly grabbed your bag and headed out the door.
You went to the market with M’Baku’s measurement written down and staring at the blocks of wood. You gave a frustrated sigh as you had no idea what you wanted to do for M’Baku. How were you going to pull off woodwork?
“Confused?” a voice said. You jumped and turned. She was familiar but you couldn’t place her. “You have to make the chest armor, don’t you?”
“I’m sorry. You are?” you asked.
“I’m so sorry. We never formally met. I’m Jolasun.” She said, extending her hand.
“Oh.” You said, blandly. You sheepishly took her hand and shook it.
“I saw you that day at the market.” Jolasun said. “I can see why M’Baku is fond of you. You really are beautiful.”
You smiled but, pulled your hand away and tucked it into your pocket. You both glared at each other awkwardly. It was weird being face to face with her. You weren’t sure how to act or what to say. M’Baku told you she was an ally for you both so, there shouldn’t be tension.
“You are here to get wood for M’Baku’s chest piece, yes?” Jolasun said. “Even I was dreading that task.”
“Yeah, it’s a bit overwhelming.” You chuckled.
“How are you holding up with everything? It’s spread throughout the tribe that M’Baku’s ceremony is in two months. I’m sure this was a lot for you and coming in so late.” Jolasun said.
“You have no idea.” You laughed. “It’s been scary but, with M’Baku’s confidence in me, I’ve made it through.”
“That’s good. I’m happy for the both of you.” She said. “I’m glad M’Baku has someone he can lead with. Truth be told, I was just as miserable as he was. I never wanted to be Chieftess. I’m just getting into the swing of things about managing our lumber trade.”
“Seems like we both just got thrown into doing things.” You chuckled. Jolasun chuckled along with you.
“I know it’s not what is supposed to happen but, I can help you with the piece. Not like the actual work of it but, just some tips or practice. I did woodshop a lot before I got into painting. If it’s okay with you.” Jolasun offered.
“Honestly…yes. I could really use some help with this.” You said.
You and Jolasun had a huge piece of wood in front of you. You looked at the tools off to the side and then looked up at Jolasun. “First, we are going to do some small carving then we will move into chipping to add detail.” She said.
You paid attention to each tip she gave you and tried to execute each technique on the practice wood. You both worked for 5 long hours until you were both spent.
“How do you feel now?” Jolasun asked passing you a cup of water.
“I feel a little bit better.” You said. “I’m sure I can pull it off.”
“Good.” Jolasun said, smiling. “Remember, you can come to me if you have trouble or have questions.”
“Thank you. I want to ask. What about you? How are you and your mate?” you asked.
“Oh, she’s great. I was actually in the wood shop today because she wants to do a piece together. We were going to install a mural in this home we are getting.” She said.
“Wait, you are already moving in together?” you asked.
“Yes. I mean, we are paired by Hanuman so we don’t see a need in wasting time.” She said. “I mean, we spent almost an entire week together, camping. Being alone with someone you have that deep of a connection with…you almost feel like nothing can hinder the relationship. You know what I’m talking about.”
“Well, M’Baku and I haven’t exactly spent an entire week alone, but our connection does run deep.” You said. You got that warm feeling again. You smiled, biting your lip. Thinking about his touch on you and the moments you spent together this morning.
“I can see it on your face.” Jolasun giggled. You laughed with her until your shoulders shrugged without you meaning for them to. You started to tap on the countertop. “What’s wrong?”
You started to focus again and sighed. “It’s M’Baku. He’s worried for some reason. I need to go.” You said. You checked your pockets for M’Baku’s measurements.
“I can walk you home.” Jolasun said. “You take the tools with you, I have plenty.” You nodded, grabbing the foldable kit and heading out the door with Jolasun. M’Baku sat on your porch, bouncing his foot against the wood. He looked up and saw you coming down but, it was the shock of seeing Jolasun behind you that made him stop. He walked down the steps to greet you.
“Y/N? Jolasun?” M’Baku said.
“Good to see you, M’Baku.” She said.
“What is going on here?” M’Baku said pointing between the two of you.
“We just finally got to meet each other.” You said, looking at Jolasun.
“She caught me in the market and we started to talk.” You said. “It was just good conversation and she taught me a few things.”
“Taught you?” M’Baku asked.
“Y/N was stressed about the woodwork of your chest piece. I brought her to my house and just gave her a few tips.” She said.
“And, I will dedicate all of tomorrow to making sure it gets down.” You said.
M’Baku’s eyebrows lifted. He scratched his head, astonished by what was in front of him. Never in a million years, he would think that you and his former betrothed would get along. He felt your genuine excitement of having a new friend in Jolasun.
“Well, I have to go. Lesedi might be waiting for me.” Jolasun said. “Goodnight.” Jolasun gave you a hug before taking off.
“Bye!” you said, waving her off.
“Good luck.” Jolasun yelled from the path.
You turned to M’Baku who had his lips pressed together. “I’m not dreaming.”
“No, you aren’t.” you said, pulling him in. “Something was wrong. Is everything okay?”
“You should come inside. I promise you. I didn’t know. If I had, I would’ve…” M’Baku started. You got this chill down your spine which you were sure was amplified by him.
“M’Baku, what is it?” You said.
M’Baku walked you up the steps and opened your front door for you. You stopped as you saw M’Bako sitting at your breakfast table with your father and your brother in law.
“Ah, Young Y/N. I was hoping we wouldn’t have to send a search party for you.” He said with a smile on his face that you weren’t sure if it was genuine.
“What is this?” you asked.
“The Chief and Chieftess have come for dinner.” Your father said, shuffling a deck of cards.

Our Love In Color XIX
A/N: I hope everyone is having a great 2019 so far! Enjoy this! Reader is Black and Plus sized? Oh, yes.
Warnings: fluff, plot progression
Translation: yam ivu-my rose
“I must say,” M’Bako started. “You have a lovely home, Feyisola.”
“Thank you.” Your mother said. “It’s an honor having the Chief and Chieftess in our home.”
“What are they doing here?” you whispered to M’Baku as you sat on the arm of your father’s chair, looking around at the guards posted in certain areas around the room.
“He just told me to come along and then we were here. If I knew, I would have told you. I promise I would have.” He said.
“Chieftess?” your mother asked.
“Please, call me Niyi. We should act as a family.” Niyi said, lips curled in a genuine smile.
“Well, I would have rather met on different circumstances.” Your father said, peering at you then directing his eyes back to his hand of cards. “To be frank, I’m not big on surprises.”
“I second that notion but, we’re here and it’s all thanks to young Y/N and her relationship with my son.” M’Bako said. His sarcasm was apparent to you but, no one else besides M’Baku picked up on it.
“But, really. I adore Y/N. She’s like the daughter I’ve always wanted.” Niyi said, looking over at you and winking.
You gave her a short smile before turning back to M’Baku.
“Y/N doesn’t tell us about how things are going with the whole becoming Chieftess process.” Your mother said.
“Oh? Y/N is doing well.” Niyi said, helping your mother move a pot from the stove.
“For a simple gardener.” M’Bako chimed in as he placed a pair of cards down.
M’Baku’s jaw tightened but, you put a hand on his bicep as you watched your father’s head rise. “Excuse me? A simple gardener?”
“Bongani, forgive my husband. The role of Chieftess in past generations was either given to a daughter or girl born into the leading family or a woman coming from a prominent or close family to that of the Chief. This is the first time in recent history that the role of Chieftess would be given to someone outside that class.” Niyi corrected first glaring at M’Bako and looking back to your father.
Your father had his eyes squinted as his fingers tapped on the table. “In all honesty, Y/N does better than I thought she would have. Council has very much enjoyed her company at meetings. She’s not a silent partner which I appreciate and is a great virtue for a Chieftess. Niyi was silent at first.”
“I didn’t remain that way though. Hanuman knows you’ve caught my mouth more times than you would have wished.” Niyi said in a dark tone. M’Bako cut his eyes at her, jaw locked. There was a sudden slap on the table as Odunayo put his hand of cards on the table making every looked in the direction with the two guards becoming promptly alert.
“I win!” he said. His smile broke the tension in the room with your father throwing his cards on the table.
“How? You cheat! I know you do!” your father scolded.
“Dinner is almost ready.” Your mother called from the kitchen. “Y/N and M’Baku, could you set the dining table in the other room please?”
“I can help.” Monife said, standing up from behind Odunayo.
“No.” you and M’Baku said in unison. Everyone looked at you with cocked eyebrows and hiding chuckles.
“We got it.” You said, pulling M’Baku along. You went into the larger dining room of your home. You adjusted the tablecloth before going to the cabinet for the plates.
“Usana,” M’Baku started. “It’s going to be fine.”
“If he keeps on like this or makes a snide remark, I’m not responsible for what my Baba does.” You said, whipping around.
“Relax. I’ll stop him before he gets to that point.” M’Baku said. “I’m not letting him do that you again. Or even your family.”
“I’m serious, M’Baku.” You said. “I don’t give a shit what his deal is with me or what his affliction is with you! He doesn’t do this with family.”
“Relax.” M’Baku said, rushing to you feeling your anger come off in waves. “It won’t come to that. I won’t let that happen again.” M’Baku pulled you into his chest, rubbing your back. You took deep breaths and settled. Both you and M’Baku took a sigh.
You pulled away but, kept your hands in M’Baku’s. “We just have to make it through tonight.”
“Let’s get the table set so we can get this over with.” You said. You and M’Baku got the entire table set and the double doors open. Niyi and Feyisola brought the dishes to the table. Your father sat at the head of the table and permitted M’Bako to do the same at the other end. Niyi sat next to your mother with Monife on your mother’s left, closer to your father. On the left side of the table, Odunayo was closer to your father with you in the middle and M’Baku and the end close to the Chief. The tension was thin for the moment but, M’Baku kept a hand on your thigh to ease you.
“The food is great, Feyisola.” Niyi said.
“Thank you.” Your mother giggled.
“Is Young Y/N as good as a cook as you?” M’Bako asked. “I’d hate for M’Baku to go hungry.” You smacked your lips but your father spoke up first.
“Why do you call her young? Where is that coming from?” Your father said in an irritated voice.
“I’m sorry. Y/N is younger than M’Baku.” He said. “It’s not meant to be demeaning. Just something I call her. Just something funny I thought since M’Baku would be more mature and he went for someone who he’d be a senior to. You don’t take offense to it, Y/N?”
M’Baku’s jaw locked as he cut his eyes over to the Chief but, he calmed himself, turning to you. You looked up from your plate and gave a slick smile. “No.” M’Baku’s thumb rubbed your thigh.
“I must say, I guess it was a shock to all of us that they were a match.” Your father said.
“Hanuman has a funny way of doing things.” Niyi said. “I believe Y/N has bettered M’Baku. He is more determined and strives to be a better leader.”
“Y/N has changed also. She speaks up a lot more often. She isn’t as shy.” Monife said. “A little bit more moody but, vocal nonetheless.”
“Moody? Ah, yes. M’Baku has been a bit emotional since meeting your daughter.” M’Bako said.
“Rather emotional than cold and heartless.” M’Baku whispered.
“I’m sorry?” M’Bako said, cocking his eyebrow.
“You heard me.” M’Baku said.
“Um,” Odunayo spoke up. “Y/N are you still working in the gardens or did you give that up to focus on Chieftess?”
“Yes, I technically had to quit.” You said.
“The way you spoke so passionately about it, I would have thought you’d try to stay for a bit longer.” Your mother said.
“Becoming Chieftess is an extensive process, Feyisola. Your daughter has big shoes to fill and so little time to do it. Thankfully, the effort she has put in will allow her to be a council member by the time M’Baku is inaugurated.” Niyi said.
“When would she exactly be crowned Chieftess, officially?” Your father asked.
“Well, M’Baku still has a little over a month.” M’Bako said. “Should she complete all tasks, she will have the official title. If not, she’ll receive it when all is done.”
“We weren’t sure of the extent of this.” Your mother said.
“The role of Chieftess is a whole ordeal. Not a hobby. Once Y/N made the commitment, it was just that. A commitment.” M’Bako said. “Y/N has shown great effort and interest in it. Much more than M’Baku’s former betrothed, I should add. She has put her best foot forward and truth be told, I’m amazed by her.”
You looked up from your plate and looked at him. M’Baku had dropped his fork on the plate and sat back into the chair, shocked himself.
“Amazed?” Feyisola asked.
“Yes, amazed.” M’Bako said. “Truth be told, I doubted Y/N. I doubted M’Baku so that warranted I doubt her. That wasn’t fair to M’Baku and it wasn’t fair to your daughter. I said some nasty things to her which was childish and uncalled for. My frustrations of…certain situations should not have been directed towards her. For that, I apologize.”
M’Baku’s eyebrows lifted. You sat there, watching him. There was no venom in his eyes, no malice in his voice. You never heard him be sincere, so this was hard to fathom. He locked eyes with you but, you wouldn’t show softness. You kept them hard, not blinking even though your eyes burned.
“My behavior towards you has been unacceptable. I am sorry. I also realize I never fully endorsed you as Chieftess and I will correct that.” He said.
“She would have been Chieftess regardless.” M’Baku spoke up.
“Even still, we should do this properly.” M’Bako said, shrugging. “You claim that she is your soulmate so…”
“Not claim. She is. I love her with every fiber of my being. I’d move the mountains themselves for her. Y/N is everything to me. She is the best part of my life and every moment I spend with her, I cherish. I’d give her the breath out of my lungs, the blood from my veins, the bones from my limbs. This is no small thing and I’m done with you trying to downplay and diminish our relationship and my feelings for her. You may not believe in Hanuman and the wonders of love anymore and for that I pity you but, I refuse to allow your beliefs to hinder our relationship. This is Hanuman’s will and by his name, when the time is right, she will be my wife. I want you and everyone at this table to know this is real. This is happening no matter who protests. This love will last as long as the mountains stand, maybe even after. Hanuman brought us together and no one will tear us apart.” M’Baku said. He grabbed your hand and looked at you. There was this fire in his eyes that you hadn’t seen before. It wasn’t anger. You didn’t feel hot in the face, you didn’t feel the urge to attack or have any violent reaction. You wanted to forget your families were here and embrace each other at this table. Be in each other’s arms and in a kiss so deep neither of you would make it out. Passion. Pure passion. “This is forever.”
You walked into the dining room, putting the wood plates on the table so your sister could finish polishing them. She smirked at you. “So?”
“So, what?” you asked.
Monife started to laugh. “Nothing.”
“No, what? What is it?” you whined.
“It’s just so sweet. It’s so beautiful. Even Odunayo had trouble making his feelings plain for me in front of Baba.” Monife said. “I know he loves you, we all do. But, watching that…it was surreal.”
You fought the smile that wanted to come across your lips. You walked back into the main room to see M’Baku outside on the porch talking to your father and the Chief. Niyi stood alongside you, wrapping an arm around you. “The Chief doesn’t usually apologize for his wrongdoings. I hate to say to consider that a blessing but…”
“I’ll take it.” You sighed.
“Y/N, you really are great for M’Baku. I’m so happy he found you.” Niyi said, cupping your face.
“We like to say we found each other.” You giggled. She planted a kiss on your forehead before going back to help your mother to finish cleaning.
M’Baku opened the door and let your father and his in. “Well, I thank you all for the lovely dinner. Niyi, we should get going.”
“M’Baku, are you coming with us or will you be home late?” Niyi asked, wiping off the last plate.
M’Baku turned to you and saw that you held out your hand. He smiled, taking it. “Late. If Bongani permits me to stay.” He said, not breaking his gaze from you.
“That’s fine. Bedroom door stays open though.” Your father said, earning a laugh from Odunayo in the corner.
“Don’t be too late.” Niyi said grabbing her cover and wrapping it over her shoulders. Your father held the door and walked them out. M’Baku gave you a smirk as you lead him to the stairs.
“Bedroom door!” Feyisola yelled after you.
You made it to your bedroom where you sat on the bed. He leaned down and gave you a passionate kiss. He pulled away and chuckled. “I love you.”
“Oh, I know that after tonight.” You laughed. “The things you said…”
“I meant every word.” He said.
“I felt it.” You said. “I felt every bit of it. This is really is real.”
“It’s the realest thing I’ve ever felt.” M’Baku said.
“I think you may have even scared my father with the way you were talking about me.” You laughed. “Maybe the whole table.”
M’Baku laughed. “Well, everyone including the Chief knows how serious this is.”
“Why do I feel like this is a victory?” You said.
“Because it is.”
M’Baku returned to the palace late that night but, went to Niyi’s room instead of straight to his. He knocked on the door, hoping she would be awake. He stepped back and fiddled with his hands. He shouldn’t be nervous to have this conversation. His head shot up as a faint light peeked through the opening crack of the door.
“M’Baku?” Niyi groaned. “What’s wrong?” She pulled her hair wrap more over her cornrows as it slacked.
“I need advice, I’m sorry.” He said.
“Don’t be. Come in, son.” She said letting him in. M’Baku sat on the small couch in the center of the room almost making the tea set on the coffee table bounce. Niyi glided over and sat on the coffee table, wiping the sleep from her eyes. “What did you need advice on?”
“The Chieftess’s ring you gave me. The one that was meant for Jolasun.” He started.
“Yes.” She said, resting her chin on the palms of her hands.
“When do you think I should give it to Y/N?” M’Baku said.
“Wait…you haven’t given it to her yet? Why haven’t I noticed? Why don’t you give it to her?” Niyi said, patting her braids.
“I don’t want to scare her.” He said.
“M’Baku, it’s been the tradition that the future Chieftess have the ring. Why would that scare her? She’s done well in her abilities.” She said.
“So, it’s not like an engagement ring?” he said.
“No, not necessarily. If you don’t want it to be an engagement ring, then don’t let it be. The history of the ring was that it was token given to the betrothed of the Chief as a may of the public knowing that the woman was to be Chieftess or married to the Chief. Even unwed Chieftesses in the past wore it. Your great great great grandmother wore the ring before she even married and ruled without a husband for 10 years.” Niyi said, waving her hand.
“So…should I explain it as just like heirloom?” M’Baku said, shrugging.
“Yes, exactly. It is an heirloom! But, make it more ceremonious than that. It doesn’t have to be a public ordeal where you yell to a crowd that you are putting the ring on her finger. It can be as intimate as you want to make it or not.” Niyi said.
M’Baku sighed and sat back on the couch. “Okay, okay.”
“M’Baku, stop overthinking things. You and Y/N will be fine. You made that big display at the table tonight and you are fretting over a ring, please. I’m sure she will accept the ring. If becoming Chieftess didn’t scare her away, receiving an heirloom won’t. Why are you worried about this? Do you want to propose to her?” Niyi said.
“No, I…I love her and I know I have forever with her but…” M’Baku started.
“Don’t rush this. You have forever so my advice…take forever if you want. She is still going to be Chieftess. She is still going to be happy with you and you with her.” Niyi said. “Do you feel in a rush to marry her? Do you think becoming Chief will hinder your relationship?”
“I’m not sure. And I hope it won’t. I asked her if she would take part of my closet. Just to see if she would spend nights here.” He said.
“And her response?” Niyi said.
“It seemed like she was going to say no at first. She said she would think about it though.” M’Baku sighed.
“Then let her think about it. If she says yes, it’s yes and she keeps a few items here. If no, she’ll be the Chieftess who has to trek here every day. Let whatever it is going to be, let it be.” Niyi said. “Hanuman has blessed you. He gave you the love of your life. Don’t force things. What is for you both will happen.”
“Okay.” He sighed.
“Son…relax. You have no reason to rush to do things.” Niyi said.
M’Baku nodded, silently settling with the idea. “Thank you.” He said, standing up. M’Baku stood up and hugged Niyi. Niyi was actually surprised by it but, welcomed it by patting his back.

Our Love In Color XV
A/N: I’m posting this late but, you know. The reader is Black and plus-sized so don’t come in here on that bs. Check masterlist for previous parts.
Warnings: Fluff, plot progression
Translations: yam ivu-my rose
M’Baku stood in the throne room, the light from dawn breaking in. The light brown wood with the elaborate backing of it. He sighed, as looking at it put this crushing weight on his chest. “Staring and dreaming again?”
M’Baku turned around to see Niyi walking in. He turned back to the throne, glaring at it again. “Tell me. What would be the first thing you would change as Chief?” Niyi asked.
“I’m not so sure.” M’Baku said. “Some could use higher wages. No one is exactly poor but, there is nothing wrong with being equal in pay.”
Niyi nodded, approvingly. “What about the rest of Wakanda? We’ve been separated from them for years. Would it not be time to change that?”
“No. Their ways are too depended on their technology. Keeping us hidden from the rest of the world is one thing I may be able to agree on but, to rely on the vibranium in such a way…no. The lines drawn millennia ago can stay drawn.” M’Baku said.
Niyi hummed and unfolded her arms. “Well, the idea will come again. Just be prepared for it.” She walked up to him, placing a comforting hand on his chest. “M’Baku, it’s time. You need to make your push to become Chief of the Jabari. There should be nothing holding you back now. What else could you be waiting for?”
“I’m not sure what held me back in the first place.” M’Baku said.
“You are well of age. You have this in your blood.” She said. “It is your time.”
“And so what would I do?” he asked, turning to her.
“You and your father have differences but, the one thing he will never deny you is your right to the tribe. You find your confidence and confront him. Tell him you are ready.” Niyi said.
“But, I can’t forgive him for what he has done. To you. The things he said to Y/N.” he said.
“Then use that as the fuel to prove him wrong.” She said. “Hanuman would not keep you from what is yours. He gifted you love and color. Now, instead of waiting for another gift, take what is yours.”
M’Baku took a deep breath, nodding.
“M’Baku, you have to do this by yourself. I will give you support but, this is no one else’s journey but, yours.” Niyi said. “Don’t wait. Go to him, now.”
M’Bako sat in his office, studying a map of the land. M’Baku came through the large wooden doors. His father looked up at him, settling into his seat. “Yes?”
“I’m ready.” M’Baku said.
“For?” M’Bako asked, unamused.
“To be Chief. No more waiting. No more grooming. No more talk.” M’Baku said, walking into the room and planting his hands on his father’s desk, staring into his eyes.
“So…you plan on putting any and all effort into this?” M’Bako said. “No more dawdling. You’ll put your best foot forward and claim your right as Chief.”
“Yes.” He said.
“And brought this sudden burst of revelation?” M’Bako asked.
M’Baku pressed his lips together and eased off the desk. “I’m done waiting.”
“Well, you were only waiting on yourself. Did you need a sign from Hanuman? Or did your sweetheart have to…” M’Bako started.
“You don’t get to talk about her! This has nothing to do with her. But don’t think I will allow what you did to slide. Y/N is my love and you will treat her with respect. The things you said to her, you won’t get a second chance to say them, again.” M’Baku said.
M’Bako looked up at his son and sighed. He raised an eyebrow at him and gave a shrug. “Sure. I’ll put effort towards it. Since all of a sudden you want to be a man.”
“Stop it, old man. You want me to step up so here it is! We start now! Today.” M’Baku said.
M’Bako chuckled, nodding his head. “So be it. You’ve been to council meetings and provided input but, this afternoon, you are going to run it. I will only be a silent character. Do not look to me for answers and approval. It will be up to you to make all final decisions.”
You could feel triumph, not yours clearly. You sat at home, disappointed. M’Baku didn’t come get you after work like he usually did. However, you could feel him being proud so maybe something had to be taken care of. You twisted the thread in between your fingers, sighing.
“Y/N, do you want to talk about last night?” Your mother said.
You shrugged. “It’s over. It’s behind me.” You said.
“Then why do I believe that you are still thinking about?” she asked.
“I’m trying not to, believe me.” You sighed.
“Tell me what happened.” Your mother said, dropping her needles and moving over to where you were sitting.
“The Chief asked me questions.” You said. “It felt more like I was being roasted over an open fire than him trying to get to know me. It was embarrassing. M’Baku stuck up for me in the end but…”
“It didn’t really make you feel better.” Your mother said. She pulled on one of your braids, fingering the shell at the end. “I’m sorry you had to go through that. It may take time for the Chief to come around.”
“As the way M’Baku describes him, he seems quite bullheaded and stuck within his ways. I’m not sure if he’d ever accept me.” You sighed.
“Is it important that he accepts you?” your mother asked.
“I’m not sure.” You said, shrugging.
“Well, let’s focus on what is important. Focus on your relationship. Let Hanuman handle the Chief.” She said, brushing off your shoulder.
“Did you and Baba have trouble in your relationship?” you asked.
“No. Our families were supportive because of course it wasn’t like they could stop us.” She said. “So, we can’t relate on the trouble you are going through. But, I can give advice on the relationship. However, whatever you do is solely your decisions.”
“Well, M’Baku said he would come see me after work and he didn’t show up.” You said. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and you got that warm feeling again.
“Speak of the devil and he shall appear.” She chuckled. You got up and went to the door. You opened it and gave a small smile but, then you got that disappointed feeling again reminding yourself he did neglect to come see you.
“I know I missed you, yam ivu. I’m sorry.” He said, sighing. “May I come in?”
You slipped your body through the door and closed it from the outside. M’Baku lifted his eyebrows at you. You felt his surprise and a tinge of embarrassment as he stood there. “You have explaining to do.” You said.
“I know. Again, I’m sorry.” He huffed. “Look, I would have came but, I went to talk to the Chief.”
You looked up at him, arms crossed. “And?” you asked.
“I officially start my campaign for Chief. It’ll take a matter of two months, maybe less but, it’s finally happening.” M’Baku said. You fought the urge to smile. You were proud of him and you wanted to show it. Your body language cracking as you bounced on the balls of your feet and fought to keep your arms crossed over your chest. But a part of you was disappointed that his comment wasn’t about talking to his father in regards to respecting you.
“Congratulations.” You said, dryly. “But, I can’t accept that as an excuse right now.”
“I feel something is wrong. Does this have to do with the dinner? Y/N, I’m sorry you had to be the subject of that.” M’Baku said.
“And again, it wasn’t exactly your fault. But, I was hoping to see you.” You said. “Especially since, you asked to meet me. I waited for you but, you never showed up.”
“Y/N, yam ivu. Please, don’t be upset. Unfold your arms, I don’t like it.” He said.
“And I don’t like being stood up. Especially when I need you.” You said, growing irate.
“Usana, calm down.” M’Baku said. “I didn’t come here to fight with you. I came to make up for lost time and to talk.”
“Well, the way you did it wasn’t right, M’Baku.” You said, going to sit on the bench of your porch. M’Baku watched you, brows furrowed. He shuffled over to you, taking a seat next to you.
“Y/N, I apologize. I’m sorry for my behavior. You deserve better and on this day, I lacked what you needed.” He said. “Can you undo your arms and face me so we can actually talk? Please?”
You didn’t budge, looking at him and then back off to the scenery. “I did talked to the Chief about you. He said, he would be more civil in his attitude towards you.”
You drop your arms, placing your hands on your knees and turning to look at him. He smiled at you. You pressed your lips together, trying your best not to crack a smile. M’Baku started to laugh which made you giggle. Soon, you both were in laughter. M’Baku pulled you into him, tickling your sides. You erupted in screams and pleas for him to stop.
“Okay, stop. Don’t!” you said. M’Baku held your close, planting a kiss on your cheek.
“Forgive me.” He requested in a soft voice.
“I have, okay? You’re forgiven.” You hummed.
“I never want for you to be upset with me. Ever, yam ivu.” He said.
You wrapped your arms around his neck and planted a kiss on his lips. M’Baku initiated another kiss, this one deeper than the last. You pulled away and nodded your head towards the window. “My mother is home, M’Baku.” You whispered.
“Ah, right.” He said, bringing his hands from your waist to higher up your back. “Can we go for a walk? I want hear about your day.”
“Yes, we can. But you have to tell me about you becoming Chief now.” You said. M’Baku chuckled as he guided you down the steps.
“So what does this mean for us? You becoming Chief?” you asked.
“Well, of course you’d become Chieftess.” He said, pulling you in.
“What would that entail?” you asked.
“Well, there are responsibilities. I’ll need you. Being Chieftess isn’t just a title, you do become a major member of the council and even take part in the leadership of the tribe.” M’Baku said.
You got this feeling as if you were pregnant with a squid. You stopped along the path but, M’Baku took your hand. You pressed your lips together and looked at the horizon. “You think I could be Chieftess?”
“Y/N, no other woman could do it.” He said. “Yes, this does mean that this will be a joint journey. Don’t worry about the things the Chief said. Niyi can help you.”
“Groom me.” You corrected.
“Yam ivu…” he started. You shrugged away from him. “I realize this may be a lot to consume and think about.”
“M’Baku, I’m guessing this comes with the territory of being with you.” You said. “I can’t take this lightly. And it’s not like I can opt out of this.”
“Don’t feel pressured by this.” M’Baku said.
“It’s not like it’s going to be easy.” You chuckled.
“But, if you let me help you and if we talk to Niyi, things might go smoother.” He said. “I won’t do this with anyone else. I can’t.”
“This is a lot, M’Baku.” You whispered. “And I’m scared. But, I get you need me and for this I’ll need you, too.”
“Together, Y/N. We’ll do this together” M’Baku said. You smiled as he brought you in for a kiss.
