Update: I still like the protagonist, though I don’t know how long that will last.

Cute PI Dude is actually kind of shitty, which I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but...still...

Glasses Boyfriend grew on me. Unsure about Blonde Actress Lady. I go back and forth on whether I believe she actually has depth or not.

And I’m all for representation, but Water Entrepreneur Man is legitimately the most unlikable gay character I’ve ever seen on TV. I legit don’t think there is anything the writing team could do to make me like him.

Brutally Honest Journalist is cool, and continues to be the only character in this show with even a shred of sense, so good for him.

Also, Street Smart Neighbor is very attractive. I am gay.

I’m not sure this show is good, but it sure is interesting.

OKAY BUT SEASON 1 BEING A DECONSTRUCTIVE STORY ABOUT HOW PEOPLE MAKE UP CONSPIRACIES AND ENDING WITH CHANTAL NOT ACTUALLY BEING IN DANGER AND THEN SWINGING AROUND TO PLAYING ITS ORIGINAL CONCEPT STRAIGHT IN SEASON 4 WHEN DORY GOES MISSING AND IS ACTUALLY IN DANGER.

I really was/am spoiled by Doom Patrol, because I try to watch other things in the sphere of “dark character drama about superpowered/hyper-talented individuals forced into creating interpersonal bonds, that really ultimately serves as a reflection on humanity, trauma, and the conflicting emotional states therein” and I’m just. Disappointed.

#it's because when you get really good writing it becomes VERY obvious when something else does a lesser job #I mean yes in some respects season 3 was uneven for me #I know season 3 was kind of uneven for a lot of people (I personally think season 2 was its best but I don't think that's a super popular #opinion) but like. it does a good job-a CONSISTENTLY good job-of letting us see where the characters are coming from and letting #one arc inform the next and showing that recovery and self-improvement aren't straightforward lines with clear endpoints #and that dealing with one problem doesn't mean you're good forever and never have to work on yourself again. #you tackle one issue and other issues still spring up and you have to break those down too. and a search for identity is a constant struggle #like...do you ever really get there? #and the relationships between the characters and how they inform their respective self-images are developed with care basically what I'm #saying is that 90% of shows need to try harder because everything else I'm in the middle of watching only leaves me SEVERELY underwhelmed #mc13 watches stuff #god I don't actually want to finish this thing that I'm watching but I'm almost done there's no point in quitting now #I am also spoiled by Search Party which ENDS IN THREE WEEKS WHAT WILL I DO WHEN IT'S GONE WHAT DO I HAVE LEFT D-PAT IS THE ONLY THING LEFT & #IT'S NOW ON HIATUSSSSSS

I have to say, I’m super glad this was renewed for season 5. Not that ending after season 4 would have been the worst thing, but I very much would like to see the consequent developments of everything that happened in the last two episodes.

#also the showrunners said they considered KILLING OFF DORY and just...WHAT #I'm glad they didn't do that #I think that would have been a bad idea narrative-wise (which is probably why they didn't actually do that haha) #mc13 finishes search party #can't believe I watched a whole show by myself that hasn't happened in a very long time #CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 5!!!!!
