keep the bullet by @cuprun (19k) has rewired my brain cells i am sooo unwell about mcdrai

leo is definitely Not Gay but he is very cool with connor being bi, he's a model ally so even if connor gets turned on by being good for him it doesn't have to get weird!! he's so chill with it!

18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?

Definitely. The first sports rpf fic that I was really invested in was a football rpf longfic and it was how I figured sports rpf writing should be: very smutty, drawing a lot of inspiration from real life events, lots of reader/writer interaction in comments and chapter notes.

The first hockey rpf fic I was really invested in was also a longfic, a high school au called Why We Fight by lllookalive, and I think that it has influenced some of the slice-of-life immediacy that's present in a lot of my writing, and the casual dialogue set in the background of sensual setting description.

I'm sure there are more but those are the ones that I can track to the times before finding my own voice.

I've tried to piece together the whole story from the asks and answers but i think I might need more context. What happened with Strome, Chabot and Barzy? Wasn't Strome besties with Marner and McDavid? What happened at the wjc17? What's the mem cup? Which team were they all on.

Alright it is distinctly possible this gets long so I will put this under a read more

Basically, Strome, Chabby, and Barz were all drafted in 2015 to the NHL, and as with most of the draft class that year (excluding McDavid and Eichel), they all got sent back to juniors for the season. The following year, a large portion of the first round picks made it to the NHL, but Strome, Chabby, and Barz were sent back to juniors again for their final season of CHL eligibility. I think all three of them got to play some games in the NHL before they got sent back. Strome went back to the Erie Otters, Chabby went back to the St John Sea Dogs (I think), and Barz went back to the Seattle Thunderbirds (I am remembering these team names off the top of my head).

The previous year, all three of them had been on the WJC16 team, which had come sixth with an insanely stacked lineup, and most of that team ended up in the NHL when dylan, mat, and chabby didn't. It is well documented that when Dylan got sent down, he got a text from Mat saying they had to win gold at WJC17 that year.

So the three of them are picked for team canada at wjc17, and are the only guys returning from the previous year because everyone else made their NHL teams. The tournament was hosted in Canada that year, and it was literally branded the team canada revenge tour. Dylan was given the C, while Mat and Chabby were given As (so they had a representative from each of the three Canadian junior leagues: the OHL, WHL, and QMJHL respectively). They made it to the gold medal match and lost in a shootout to the US - mat cried, its well documented on Youtube.

Fast forward and each of the three of them captain their junior teams to the Memorial Cup. Basically, each of the Canadian junior leagues has a championship, and the winner of those championships plays in a round robin tournament called the Mem Cup to decide who is the best junior team in Canada each year. The three guys, after being teammates who failed to bring the gold medal back to Canada twice, end up playing each other in the Mem Cup. There are plenty of gifs of it floating around, but you might have to go digging for it. Both Mat and Chabby's teams were knocked out which left the Otters captained by Dylan to take on the Windsor Spitfies (who did not qualify as winners of a league championship, but rather as the host team). The Otters lost, and Dylan falls to his knees on the ice, its all quite tragic.

Suffice to say, the three of them probably set out with much higher goals for their final year in junior, and achieved none of them. They've really been through some hockey trauma together tbh and Chabby and Mat are still really good friends. As for the two of them and Dylan, the only evidence of interaction I can think of is Dylan slandering Mat the other day lmao.

As for Strome, Marner, and McDavid - Dylan and Connor were besties all through juniors and through Connor's first few years in the NHL (when Dylan was still in juniors). Mitch and Dylan became friends probably the year before their NHL draft and have been friends ever since. There's plenty of lore to explore there, but its probably far more well documented on tumblr than mat, chabby, and dylan lmao.
