Me: One of the reasons I don't like Steve's ending is because it breaks Peggy's character growth in Agent Carter, at the end of it she kissed Sousa and I liked him so I thought that was her husband for real, I was quite saddened to see Marvel gave a bullshit "they broke up" and later find they killed Sousa.

Me already thinking a haters response: Well not because they shared one kiss scene it means it was happily ever after.

Me: It actually is? That's how shows work, that's what many movies also do, they don't do all the characters life but they imply that's their happy ending, for them to break that significant scene much later does leave a bad taste.

I mean in that logic, we saw Steve and Peggy dancing when young but old Steve doesn't literally confirm it's Peggy who he's married in the end, we imply it, it would be like if later it's revealed they did date but ended up not working and Steve just married someone else...

the mcu needs to know that they can introduce newer female characters (she-hulk, ms marvel, cassie lang, kate bishop etc) without having to kill off the long existing ones (aunt may, Jane Foster, Queen Ramonda). Like wtf is going with killing off significant female characters like this? 

“but they wanted to leave the mc-” well the actresses who played gamora and pepper potts choose to leave Marvel and their characters weren’t killed off for shock value. Not every departure has to have their characters being killed off (permanently). Like why couldn’t they get the Steve Rogers treatment in endgame and let them retire or disappear?

edit: I forgot to include that yes, sacred timeline!Gamora got killed off for shock value while an alternated version of her survived but is less developed. WIth Zoe officially moving on from the MCU, we’ll sadly never get to see alt!Gamora again, and there will be no more opportunities of alt!Gamora being fleshed out 

all in all, the mcu should not be afraid to have too many female characters, like there’s room for all of them

Stargate rewatch: 1x19 There But For The Grace of God

One of my favourite episodes titles of the series, also kicking off what is essentially a four episode arc to end season 1 and kick off season 2. 90’s tv was the eternal battle between episodic and arc-based storytelling, and I actually think the show threaded the needle quite well.

I do love an alternative universe episode, back in the beforetimes when a multiverse served a story purpose and not just a fodder for fanservice of the “your favourite character, and they’ve got a new hat!” variety.

The story credit for this episode is David Kemper, an Executive Producer for Farscape, but this is his only Stargate contribution. Robert C Cooper wrote the teleplay, and the episode was directed by David Warry-Smith, his first of 11 for the show.

Love that they brought back Catherine, Elizabeth Hoffman is great (RIP). Given that Jack is a general in this timeline, perhaps we can assume he kept her on the project as opposed to the main timeline’s General West shutting things down/sidelining her after Abydos?

But Jack still went on the Abydos (suicide) mission so presumably wasn’t a general at that time. I know we have to be la la la don’t think about it with the alternate timelines but I’m so curious how things went down in this universe!

How long did it take them to work out how to use the gate without Daniel’s help? I guess they couldn’t communicate with the Abydonians without Daniel but they still were able to kill Ra - how? If they never went to Chulak what triggered Apophis’s interest in them to mount an attack on Earth? Why is the attack in this universe before the attack in the prime universe when really the events should be delayed in the AU?

This is a decent wig for Sam. Sadly, the only decent wig she’ll get the entire series.

I also wonder what was the difference in this universe so Sam didn’t join the Airforce.

Daniel guilelessly giving the address for Chulak right after taking about Jack intending to blow up Abydos. He’s so used to his Jack whose come so far since then, never even thinking that alt!Jack may not have, and what they might want the coordinates for.

lol, Daniel walks down the stairs, crosses the room, looks at the map, then puts on his glasses.

“Every one of those red dots is a destroyed city.” Apophis a fan of the United Celtic Nations it seems.

Daniel finally twigs that he might be in an alternate reality (with Sam defining it for him), but we can’t be too harsh, he canonically has zero pop culture game and this was the 90’s. Even in todays over-saturation of multiverse content Daniel would probably still have no clue.

Daniel and being dead/missing in alternate realities/timelines, name a better duo.

It is interesting that in a lot of the AUs the show explores, Daniel’s lack of involvement in the Stargate program coincides with that universe being doomed.

I forgot that the 38 minute gate window was first established in this episode! That’s a huge piece of lore originating in an alternate universe.

It wouldn’t be an alternate universe without at least one character with silly hair.

Generally I prefer AUs that explore character rather than ones used to advance plot (or are lazy fanservice looking at you mcu), and while the primary purpose of this episode is to give Daniel forewarning of the Goa’uld attack and the gate address to the source, there is some nice stuff here especially around Jack and Teal’c.

Because at their core alt!Jack and alt!Teal’c are still the same - Teal’c still hates the Goa’uld, Jack is still willing to take big risks on his instincts, and there’s a mirror to Children of the Gods where Jack reaches out to Teal’c, but it’s a dark mirror, and it’s the little differences that matter because Jack isn’t the same person as the one in CotG, who went through the Abydos mission with Daniel and came out a better person, instead he’s the one that sent the bomb that killed Teal’c’s family, and it dooms them both.

“I also wish to blow us all to hell.” Alt!Sam is a badass. No difference to prime!Sam there.

There’s also an interesting moment between Teal’c and Daniel in the gateroom - Teal’c doesn’t shoot straight away when he could have, so maybe Jack telling him of the alternate universe where Teal’c was fighting the Goa’uld got through. He still fires as Daniel runs for the gate, but only hits him in the shoulder - at such close range Teal’c could probably have made the kill shot. His hesitation saved Daniel’s life, and ultimately the life of his other self.

Because Daniel’s presence in the other reality changes nothing for it - alt Jack, Sam, Teal’c and Catherine all still die, the Stargate is destroyed and that would have happened anyway (with maybe the exception of Jack being able to stall Teal’c to set the self destruct).

But Daniel’s changed - there but for the grace of god (or fate) go our team.

As always, advance plotting welcome but not required if you prefer to just wing it!

castaway: An MCU/616 mashup where the events of Castaway in Dimension Z happen midway during the five-year blip. Steve returns to his own universe (or possibly another one) with almost no time having passed for the ten years he spent trapped in Zola's world. Prior knowledge of this comics run is not required. Given that Steve could have ended up in any dimension, it's also ideal for fandom crossovers/AUs/duplicates/etc. (starter here)

gods & avengers: The Avengers are reincarnations of Greek gods, and Steve accepts the mantle of Hades during the battle of Wakanda to defeat Thanos and stop the snap from happening. Would love any/all Avengers or other muses as gods! I purposely left it vague about whether the whole world knows what they are, or if it’s a secret so wild nobody would believe it anyway, and I think both would be fun to explore. (starter here)

alt!tfatws: Instead of immediately returning the infinity stones, Steve returns to the past in an attempt to alter the timeline to keep Bucky from Hydra and Natasha from the Red Room. Instead, he’s captured by the Time Variance Authority and held for four months, until he conspires with Loki to break out. He returns to his own timeline the night of Sam’s Captain America speech. (starter here)

alt!postblip: Rather than return to the past, Steve passes the shield on to Sam and stays in the current timeline like a character who didn’t just undo 3+ movies of development. He’s there to help Bucky and Sam readjust to the world post-blip and learn the ropes on being Cap. (starter here)

correct me if i'm wrong but didn't the russos say that the events of AC weren't canon? which lead the stggy stans argue that she never married and/or had children with anyone else? (which btw doesn't make any sense whatsoever cus she did infact had children or a child.. i don't know i'm not so sure, shown in pictures kept in her hospital room in CA:TWS) but now apparently it's canon and even included in the official MCU list 🙃

all i gotta say is, try as hard as y'all want to make her relevant Disney, but it's not gonna change the fact that she was one of the people who enabled the growth of HYDRA in SHIELD, who were the very people Steve "the love of her life" fought against until the moment he put down that damn Valkyrie into the Arctic

TBH I think they're intending it to be seen as happening in an 'alt universe' / timeline (idk what the difference is, and frankly I don’t think they do either). 

The events are impossible / could not have happened within the MCU timeline, because it's all supposed to be happening at the same time that CATWS told us she and Howard had already co-founded SHIELD and released/employed Zola (1946).

And all the events of CATWS are themselves impossible if that didn't happen, which would have had an enormous knock-on effect for the subsequent Avengers movies. Including Howard wondering where 'Arnie' is in EG, *ach-tw*

And with WhatIf they think they've made her history A-okay by treating Zola as if he's just another fun Nazi side-character like Zemo, and making Bucky a douchebro who's to blame for what TWS did (so the people like Zola who tortured him are not bad or to blame, apparently). 

But in fact all they've done is point out that hiring and working with and enabling Nazis to be immortalized and accrue world-shattering power is such an intrinsic part of Peggy's character that she'd even do it in other universes!  

(And they went with 'because she's incompetent' as the reason. Feminism!)

Canon-in-main-timeline or not (it's not), AC is still very revealing of character. Just not in the way the stans, writers, and actress think.

It's the show where we find out exactly how much of a rich privileged posh Englishwoman Pggy is. 

( Girl's boarding school, debutante, Stork Club, fiancee in the Home Office, brother in the Old Boys Network, skipping from career to career without worry of consequences, handed every job she's ever had, daddy's friends with a Senator, only non-rich friends are servants, etc. etc. But tell me again how she earned her place? ) 

It's the show where they really doubled down on 'she's the most important to Steve because- [delete Bucky delete Sarah]!!'

While simultaneously stealing every bit of Bucky's characterisation.

( Signature outfit colours, blue and red? Steve's last message was about her not his mother and Bucky? living in dingy apartment in Brooklyn with blond Irish 'room mate'? friend to disabled guys? math skills? boxing? war-record? besties with the Howlies? on the continent not in London? crackshot? whiskey drinker?? Stark Tech admirer? being the damsel rescued by Steve makes you his love-interest? 

Literally all she is is stolen wholecloth from Bucky. I guess I should be glad that, now that they’ve nerfed Bucky’s characterisation, she has moved onto stealing from Steve and Sam?)

It's also the show where the character based on a Nazi gets the only female Jew in the MCU sterilised by GSW because of arrogant incompetence, but can herself be literally impaled and just walk it off.

Where the line 'no woman is going to choose an aluminium crutch over a red white and blue shield' is apparently proven true.

Where the 'feminist' stabs blue collar creeps for offending her friends, but her rich white creep friend (Stark) merely gets told off. 

Where the threateningly pretty fan fave will be written out because lesbian ship is icky. 

Where Peak White Feminist Princess stops her disabled colleague from protesting women's disempowerment, on the grounds that she, the one posh white girl working there, knows how great she is, and that's all that matters. (Meanwhile she is shouting that being a woman makes her a better spy than the men but she can't spot a Black Widow until they're literally kissing her on the mouth. Oh, btw: lesbians are only villains!) 

And where POC will only appear (after fans have complained) to kiss her ass (to remind us how great she is! because that's how making a great character works! totally not a racist!) be Family Friend-ily desexed by Plot Machinations, and then be killed off.

Every time Pggy appears, they tell on her and tell on her tell on her, but still don't see it because-

Well, clearly, Disney are not going to hire people who think having a past of collaborating with Nazis is a bad thing and would criticise that in the writing, because putting that attitude in the media would damage Disney's IP.

They can subtly endorse Disney's Nazi past, though, to please the people who are into that. 

By erasing Judaism from any adapted Jewish characters, except the one who’s going to be sterilised. (Or adapting Jewish characters, if they’re going to be villains). 

By simultaneously adapting Nazi characters as 'heroines'. 

By introducing Nazi villains, but making them 'fun', saying they’re not Nazis... but keeping everything about which connoted Nazi-ism originally. 

( EG. an aristocratic Baron with a German accent who mysteriously managed to hang onto generational wealth after the Holocaust, from an Eastern European country that hates Captain America, with a big Hydra (Nazi) base in it? Who is a Nazi in the comics?? A woman whose interest in a disabled man is pitying but who becomes overtly sexual towards him once he’s an ubermensch? Who is a ‘spy’ but spends all her time around Allies because she’s actually spying on them? Who is a Nazi in the comics? Gee, I wonder it what it all means! Dog whistle! )

By making heroic characters mute whenever these Nazis speak -- and what they say will be treated as rational and correct (see: Zemo mansplaining what supremacy is while Sam agrees). By having non-Nazi villains do the same things Nazi villains did, but then becoming allies of the heroes (John Walker, Red Skull, and Pggy, all deemed themselves worthy to receive superserum).

By blaming the Jewish-character expy (Bucky) for things the Nazis did (to him). 

By pushing the Colonial-Power Superhero in rep and exposure just as a black man takes over the Cap Mantle (and citing ‘feminism’ to explain why this is Fine Actually. These are ‘Margaret Thatcher Utilised Girlpower’ people.)

And by making leftwing people the Bad Guys. 

(FATWS, TPB. The logical next step will be bringing back Steve -- the ultimate leftwinger -- as a Baddie). 

Now you might be tempted to think Pggy wasn't originally part of all this. Because in the original script she was more of a maternal figure, in Steve's eyes, and he was supposed to do what he did in the comics, and dump her for Sharon, with her blessing, while she died of old age. 

But she was always an adaption of Nazi Cynthia, for absolutely no earthly reason... other than pleasing people who are into that (if they needed a pre-serum woman for Steve, then Gail Richards was right there!) 

She was always, from way back in her short, intended to be the co-founder of SHIELD. 

And SHIELD was always intended to have been Hydra all along, because they’ve been adapting the Ultimates Run of comics (creepy, shit, misogynist), in which that happens. (And in which, incidentally, Pggy is not Steve’s love interest!) 

And now with WhatIf they’ve confirmed that working with Nazis really is just who Pggy is in every ‘verse, making this the fourth- sorry, FIFTH time the Same Nazis have “infiltrated” while she was either running the show or high up in the organisation. 

FIVE TIMES?

I think most people know this, but Marvel's version of Thor is not a lot like the Norse god Thor. You've got blond, discovering-himself Hemsworth vs. redhead, bulky, fairly aggressive god. Which is fine (I guess, I mean, I LIKE when people accurately depict deities every now & then, but whatever). Norse Loki swings violently between "that funny guy we adopted into our fam" & "guy who pisses everyone off". Sounds similar to Marvel Loki, except the family tree is totally different & Marvel Loki usually only does bad stuff because he's jealous of Thor.

I figured I'd make my own Asgardian, because I'd decided I COULD NOT make my DC OC (whose FC is Tessa Thompson) crossover into Marvel/the MCU. I read about the Norse gods & was attracted to Skadi because 1) I'm a sucker for water/ice supernaturals & 2) she reminded me of Artemis. Short version: Skathi (alt. spelling of the Norse goddess) is a jotunn (Frost Giant) who gets tricked into marrying the Vanir god Njord by Loki. They divorce because he doesn't wanna move to her mountains & she doesn't wanna move to his sea. Oh & she got to marry a Vanir (or Aesir) because Loki killed her dad (sort of). So we've got a rightfully angry, badass huntress of the mountains whose dad dies. I focused on that, but really leaned into her having some warmth that she only shows to animals & those who prove their kind natures to her. My Skadi doesn't use her cryokinesis much because she prefers to rely on her hunting skills & (my HC) Jotunn appreciate resourcefulness.

I'll be honest: I have crushed on Anakin since I was FIVE. I think I liked his hair in Episode III. I read parts of Wookiepedia in middle & high school, just in time for the new movies. I thought "holy SHIT, Jacen Solo is like Jason Todd + Anakin, he'll be so BADASS" but ofc we can't have ANYTHING NICE, so we got...the sequels (& like 30 books being cut from canon). Yeah, well, I still like magic ninjas, so I wanted to make a Jedi.

Initially, I was going to do a version of my DC OC aka make a self-insert, then subtract any Mary Sue-ishness. Nah. I picked one of my favorite SW races, the pretty Twi'lek & looked at my list of Western Zodiac characteristics. I hadn't really made many introverted, bookish OCs, so I made Rela into one. I read all the lore on Twi'leks & looked up how long it takes to go up the Jedi ranks. Once I figured out what her whole timeline might look like, I squooshed her into Anakin's peer group at the Temple :D also I absolutely LOVE it whenever someone can dual-wield blades or handguns. IRL, it takes a lot more skill than people realize. Oh & I love purple (Rela's skin color)! It was a coincidence to find that her RL FC, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, starred in a movie where she had purple hair!

So Ive been thinking about this lately but if Deadpool is canon to the mcu but is just not the main universe (like how 838 wasn’t in MoM) and they do in fact have time travel there that doesn’t function in the same it did in endgame but rather you stay in your same timeline and the timeline can be changed…..then that means Tony didn’t figure out time travel, he was actually the first of his universe to figure out multiversal travel with the plus of being able to travel to any time in said alt universe.

I've been seeing A LOT of Sigyn fan works, and the #JusticeforSigyn trend on social media. I'm a Sigyn fan and I stand by Justice for Sigyn too.

However.....I actually have a feeling that Sigyn exists in the MCU THE WHOLE TIME, except she is CURRENTLY offscreen ( still manifesting for her official debut in MCU, possibly in Loki S2 )

Like, imagine her and Loki being childhood friends to lovers ( with a crazy love story ). They attend Yggadrsil Hall of Learning together ( alongside with Thor, the Warriors 3, Sif, Brunnhilde and Heimdall. Amora, Lorelei and Theoric go to school there too and they are part of a gang of mean kids, and Amora and Lorelei fled to Nornheim to learn dark magic from Queen Karnilla of Nornheim in their high school years ).

And as Loki and Sigyn grew, they got together sometime before Thor 1

Imagine her, an Aesir Light Elf hybrid from Alfheim with Aurora Manipulation powers, and a Valkyrie veteran who is one of the very few that survived the Massacre of Valkyrie. And she at first is unwilling to go back to Alfheim and Asgard because HER MOTHER DIED THERE TOO.

Yet she exhaustedly agreed, cuz those who survived inspired her to realize that there is still hope around the horizon. And she soon became a bodyguard/lady in waiting to Frigga and a diplomat in Alfheim Embassy in Nine Realms Intercosmic Embassy.

Imagine her being Loki's consort lover in Thor 1 during Loki's 1st rule of Asgard, yet she began to feel torn between her love for Loki and her understandable concern of Loki slowly turning to dark side. And then she mourns for Loki's 1st fake death.

Imagine her, after coming back from multiple intercosmic diplomatic business trips, and hearing all about Loki causing havoc in Earth all to try to offer her a throne ' worthy of Sigyn ', she found herself joining the Asgardian fleets to defend Asgard from the Dark Elves. And on top of that, even as she rightfully calls out Loki's crap, she defends him through thick and thin and CANNOT bear him to be possibly executed. AND THEN Theoric ( an abhorrent admirer WHO TURNS OUT TO BE A SPY WORKING FOR THE DARK ELVES ) TRIES to woo her ( actually tryna glean some spy info from her ) yet Sigyn spurred his advances and still remained loyal to Loki.

And then she also mourns for Frigga's death, gave Thor and Loki magical first aid kits for their big escape...and manages to tell her Nine Realms cohorts that Theoric is a double crossing spy. Well that ( and upon hearing Theoric is bothering Sigyn ) is more than enough to have Loki pull strings to have Theoric killed in battlefield.

Imagine her, thinking that Loki died ( again ), reunited with Loki in secret and became a bodyguard of Loki/Odin and a Chief diplomat in the Alfheimr embassy in the Nine Realms Intercosmic Embassy, and eventually Loki and Sigyn married in secret

Imagine Sigyn, during Ragnarok, joining the Light Elfs to battle against Hela's forces while also help run a refuge behind the waterfalls in Hummingbird Bay ( where the Sea Elves dwell in Alfhem in coral abodes ). And she broke down witnessing her healer dad died trying to save her life.....

And all the while, EVERYONE else found out her and Loki's initially secret marriage, and also Sigyn and Loki kept in touch via crystal ball communications and magical notes while they had their crazy adventures.

Imagine Sigyn managing to escape the Massacre of the Airship caused by Thanos to an alternate timeline where Alfheim is ruled by a council of Valkyrie veterans and military leaders ( via Sylvie unleashing the Multiverse via Stabbing Kang )

And imagine Sigyn, who soon heard an Alt Loki was out there somewhere, began a time hopping journey to find Loki when she was abducted by the TVA yet manages to escape and eventually reunite with Loki, and the 2 commence a coupe against the TVA together ( this is what I would LOVE to see happen in Loki S2 )

On his way to get his physics degree and teaching license, Jackson O’Daly lived a fairly normal life as a university student who works as a part-time data entry clerk for a major organization to make ends meet. A promotion then required him to move and transfer universities, an unusual request at the time, which made his family question his decision to accept it. He easily reassured them and went on his way.

Only a few people are somewhat aware of his actual job. No one he knows outside of work, save for one, is aware of his other job for the organization:

Collecting and analyzing information about major events regarding super powered individuals and the like.

He hadn’t expected anything out of applying to be a data entry clerk as a secondary income, but the results now pay very well.

Now, to hide that the fact that he could manipulate ice.

VALKYRIE / SIGRUN Dancer/Musician / Vigilante / Part Asgardian

A quiet enigma to most, the Washington Heights locals accepted her as one of them after Johanne Fröst moved in; her reserved stature and no-nonsense attitude a perfect fit for the New York scene. She keeps to herself outside of her work as an assistant dance instructor and a back-up musician for a local bar.

The Norwegian is also known to be a bit of a bouncer as well for the same bar, but the owner, staff, and regulars greatly appreciate it. She’s said to have a pair of heavy fists for someone who danced and played music for a living.

One must be able to throw and take a hit when vigilantism and staying low are parts of your daily schedule after all. More so when you're not entirely of this world.

Rhodey is a mix of Earth-616, MCU, and headcanons, all of them meshed them together for Earth-3490. All details vary based on verse, and I'm happy to write him into AUs and fandom crossovers. His characterization is heavily inspired by The Components of Construction. All post-CW threads in an MCU timeline are written with the faceclaim Gabrielle Union. I do not acknowledge any of the D+ shows in my verses.

Still dunno what to do here. Likely been said elsewhere, but saw another article type thing about The Avengers "time heist" and how could Cap put the stones back where they came from. The thing is... he didn't have to put any of the stones "back" (putting Reality Stone {Aether} back into Jane, meeting Red Skull again). He knew exactly where and when all the other Avengers teams would be, so all he had to do was show up at the proper time and relative dimension in space and hand the ready-made stone he had *to them* which would leave the already existing stone untampered-with; no re-violating Jane, no dying of Nat, no meeting of Agent Smith mk2. Angel Gabriel gets to keep their Time Stone and Camp Lehigh doesn't get broken into because future Cap hands Team NY all three stones, no need to figure out how to get the Space Stone back into the Tesseract cube-form. That Cap likely did go back to 1945-ish, but did *not* hook-up with Peggy of that time. He took a cue from Fury and stayed behind the scenes with the knowledge he has. He left clues for the SSR to find the proper Steve of that time so Agent Carter could have the Captain Rogers she had known. He Left clues so they could also find and rescue Bucky before he was too far Winterized. He led a peaceful delegation to Wakanda and may have still kept their secrets so they themselves could control how much info was released. He helped advance scientific findings for the SSR and eventually SHIELD and set-up better protocol and vetting so Hydra didn't insinuate. Steve was twelve years older (First Avenger to Endgame) and had far too many miles to try and go back to his "old life"; he left that Peggy and Steve alone, though may have still sent holiday cards from "Uncle Tony" and may have even been godfather to Howard Stark's son. With his help advancing science and still having his old time heist wristwatch, they developed a side-slip so he could pay a visit to his older old life as "old Cap", gifting a new shield to Sam which may have been identical to the shield he'd made for the Sam he knew from his "Ideal World". TVA likely left him alone because... well, it's kind of cool if this may have happened in one of their multiverses. People saw Old Steve "OMG WHY DIDN'T HE [do all this stuff and stop bad things and save friends and and and]!!!" In my headcanon, he did all that and saved many lives and prevented lots of badness, hence referring to the branch timeline as "Ideal World". Saved young Steve so he could be with young Peggy, saved Bucky from Hydra, stopped Zola before he started, helped Howard (both Stark and the Duck) be not so distant from his family, likely vacationed in Sokovia, helped Wakanda find a balance of being selective about what info is released so N'Jobu didn't die for his beliefs. "Hey Nat, hey Clint; here's the stone you need. Don't go up that mountain; trust me" as well as "Thor, Rocket. The Aether is already in this stone-shape and here's a spare hammer since this time's Thor will really need his very soon." None of this helps Loki, since he killed his own father in the first movie (Laufey-son, Laufey was about to kill Odin in his sleep) and was responsible for his adoptive mother's death ("to the left"). Huh... Thanos didn't conquer the Nine Realms; maybe Odin was the worse-r villain. That's a different topic, though. This was more to get alt-Cap and Ideal World out of my head.
