I rlly hate how some people took the issue of certain adults being weird abt kids media and decided... adults just shouldn't watch or engage with children's media period and those who do are weird, unsophisticated idiots who are too feeble minded to understand things made for their actual age demographic or something.

what’re your fandoms

I'm in a few fandoms but there's also things I like that I'm not too active in the fandoms of.

Games: Fallout and Pokémon obviously, Stardew Valley, Team Fortress 2, the Elder Scrolls. I've been playing Minecraft a lot too. I also play D&D and Magic the Gathering.

Some shows and movies: Metalocalypse, although thanks to some drama on Discord I don't feel like I belong in the fandom anymore. Clone High, the DCAU (I love the batfamily!), other DC stuff like Harley Quinn, I just got into OFMD, I like the MCU but hardly follow it anymore, King of the Hill, Repo! The Genetic Opera, Death Note, Fairy Tail, ATLA, and there are others I'm forgetting.

Books: the Riordanverse, aka Percy Jackson, the Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase; some Manga like Pokémon and Naruto (I'm way behind); there was another series I can't find a fandom for I think it's called Falling Kingdoms. Hunger Games was so good that I saw every single one of the movies in theaters!

Also it doesn't fit in one of the above categories, but I'm a big fan of Gorillaz.

I have a thought of Jinwo ended up in marvel comic ( not MCU!) And mistaken for an Elder God from another planet, since Monarch is kind of God already so this not far fetch. Bad new tho, all the earth pantheon panicking because wtf is an Elder God here??!

Unfortunately I don't know the marvel comics, only MCU.

But it would indeed be pretty freaking hilarious if all the Earthlings and people have Expectations of what to expect from an Elder God and Jinwoo... fails to meet any of them.

Like for one, he already knows how to use a smartphone. Cool, so he's up to date on technology. Somehow.

But he's also like... nice? He's always armed with tampons for the ladies and isn't showing any of the classic Misogynic tendencies often found in gods (cough Zeus).

He knows how to interact with children?? Help with homework?? Are you sure he isn't like God of Ideal Boyfriend StandardsTM instead??

What i inteded to be working on: figuring out how thanos dies in my MCU rewrite

What i'm actually working on: Loki says Asgardians live about 5,000 years and we know Thor was born around 930 CE, and Buri being the first Asgardian seems to be MCU canon as well as comics canon, and Thor at 1000 seems to be about the age when people are expecting him to get married but probably not yet at the age when everyone asks him if he's got kids yet, so assuming about 1,500 years per generation, when was Asgard founded?

I can't believe I thought the problems in maths textbooks would never come in useful...

I was tagged for WIP Wednesday by @mxkelsifer but due to time zone shenanigans it’s now Thursday. Ah well, WIP Thursday it is. Also, I had a bit of a panic trying to figure out what to post as I am always working on too many things at once and the only other proper WIP I considered is in German, which didn’t feel fair for Kels and most of my english moots. 

So I had to figure out which of my endless oneshots I wanted to take but couldn’t be arsed to edit the whole thing so you only get this snippet. Anyway, context for the WIP below it’s my Skyrim Elder Scrolls main fanfic, which has a bit of a MCU crossover in the form of Brock Rumlow (shock horror, what a surprise, I know). 

I never write for it in chronological order, haven’t actually published anything for it either, but I like it. 

The WIP in particular is right after an argument my Dragonborn had with Ulfric and she needs to clear her mind which she preferably does by beating things or people up. Insert Brock her best friend and captain of her Imperial Guard. 

Brock kept pace with me on the way to the back courtyard. “You want to talk about it?”

“No, I want to fight about it, now shut up.” 

Brock’s smirk merely grew.  

Without warning I charged  at him with my sword and chased him across the courtyard. He let me do my thing for a while before he started his counter attacks. Of course, he couldn’t actually beat me with swords, but I usually needed a good blow out with swords before we started hand to hand because I was actually in risk of hurting myself or my partner otherwise. 

Brock was in excellent shape and nearly unarmed me twice. Kaidan was training him well. 

Once I could feel a thin sheen of sweat appear on my forehead I paused. “Okay, let’s get to the nitty gritty.”

Brock bared his teeth in something too feral to be a grin. “Yes, let’s.” 

We both put our swords to the side, but not our other weapons. It would take ages to take off all the daggers and both of us had a bit of a paranoia issue. 

We circled around each other. My heart beat in my throat now that I knew I was about to lose a fight. I actually tasted a bit of iron on my tongue. When you knew you couldn’t win every fight, knowing with certainty you’d lose the next one, was exhilarating, even if you knew you’d survive. I had been an adrenaline junky as a teen, this was the next best thing in a world without roller coasters. Though dragons were also a good substitute. 

Brock attacked first. He was absolutely merciless when he knew he could win a fight and never held anything back. Especially not when I needed to blow off steam. He was a great teacher when you came with the request to be taught, otherwise he just kicked your ass and I lived for it. 

I ducked under most of his blows, got a good few myself in. Our gloves protected us from the sharp edges of the armour and the armour of course protected us from permanent damage. 

Brock grunted as I got in a good hit to his ribs, right between the plates. Advantage of having designed and partially smithed that armour myself. He of course paid it back twice. I struggled to hold my footing. He swept my feet out from under me and planted me in a mean joint lock with my face in the dirt. 

I struggled a bit, mainly so I felt the pain in my limbs and the struggle in my muscles. I wanted to test how far I could go and how far he’d go. Of course, Brock didn’t give an inch. “You done yet?”

I pressed my face into the dirt. Gods, he was sexy. “Yeah.” 

He leaned forward and I felt his breath on my ear. “Are you tapping out then darling?”

Cool things i learned abt the Dora Milaje from the dora milaje training manual

this is canon to the 616 and comics, not the MCU, but it was cool to learn about and definitely impacts my canon compliant AU fic. So it might be useful to others. Its not the full book, not even a chapters worth of info, but if you were considering getting it, do so. It made me look at wakanda forever differently, too.

Joining

they accept women from all 5 tribes (17 in the comics) between the ages of 15-20 to become Dora

They have to bring a gift and be accepted by Bast to begin training

If accepted they are called Kanwata and the process takes 4 years to complete.

Upon initiation they go through an ori ceremony where their heads are shaved and they received their first ritual tattoo. They receive another tattoo each year, an ink with vibranium, until the second and final ori ceremony where they receive the final tattoo after their acceptance from Bast.

Training

They have to learn 7 of 10 languages: Wakandan, Xhosa, Hausa, Arabic, Yoruba, English, Igbo, Mandarin, Swahili, and Korean. They have 9 additional elective languages they can learn, especially to connect to the diaspora and blend in: cantonese, Hebrew, Japanese, French, Farsi, Spanish, Amharic, and Portuguese. They get to conversation and translation in the following years.

In the first year they must learn hand to hand combat in the forms of Ngolo, Laamb, Silat, Muay Thai, Musangwe, and Krav Maga. Once the required mastery has been met they add weapons in the second year. The Dora are considered "living weapons".

In the comic verse, they have a mystical and supernatural combat section. The kanwata training is in 3 pillars: physical, mental, and spiritual/herbal. They study vibranium application and properties as well as herbal practices like identifying plants for food and medicinal purposes.

Essentially, Dora are super smart and well trained so it takes a unique situation for them to be unprepared lol. There is even more that goes into what was listed above.

Structure

The DM have 3 major units: Guard Units, Airborne Units, and Support Staff Units. This includes Domestic, international, and Off world teams in the comics.

Dora can be broken into units, squads, or teams (helpful when trying to name group that they might be on a mission in)

They are all trained in combat and munitions (weapons) but some units are researchers, mechanics, pilots, healers, or apart of a secret division (like the cia) but no one knows who is in that secret division

Kanwata are the trainees, the 3rd and 4th years apprentice with Iya Dora and/or train younger Kanwata.

Ile Dora Milaje is what the group of active, graduated, and fully initiated Dora are called.

Iya Dora is the council that confers with wakandan leadership (Taifa Ngao, the council of elders), determines the graduation passage of kanwata, and governs the active duty, dismissal or removal from Dora ranks. There are Dora that have been re-instated after dismissal.

I am so sorry, anon, things have been really hectic in my personal life in the past few weeks (past few months, honestly), so I haven't been able to answer many messages, and I have quite a few sitting in my inbox.

I haven't watched Captain Marvel in a long time to be honest, so I had to do some good old googling to refresh my memory on Skrull culture.

It's.......definitely concerning.

This backstory is a classic antisemitic metaphor. Jews as a people have been defined by their exile from their homeland and their "infiltration" of the various countries they were exiled or migrated to. Having faced genocides upon genocides through the centuries, it is true that Jews as a people are adaptable, and have built prosperity and community for themselves even in unforgiving environments. This has made Jews the topic of suspicion for their ability to "blend in" to the population, while also maintaining their own cultural and spiritual integrity as a people. The various European inquistions, blood libels, the Holocaust, and today's dual-loyalty paradigm in regards to Israel are all manifestations of this suspicion of Jews as the outsider. In terms of media and culture, the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, the New World Order conspiracy theory, and Q-anon are also manifestations of this belief that Jews are inherently untrustworthy and deceitful, invading other nations and cultures.

It doesn't help that the Skrulls are literally lizard-people, which is a page taken straight of David Icke's ramblings.

Long story short? Yes, absolutely it's an antisemitic trope.

But are we really surprised at this point with the way the MCU has been conducting things?

I don’t have real coherent words after that Oliver interview so I need to hear yours. Because OH MY GOD

Vindication??? VINDICATION???? VIN~DIC~ATION???!!!!!!

Like we knew. We all knew. All the fans knew, and everyone working with the show knew. But the fact that they're actually talking about it? Being transparent about it? From Mr. PR Golden Boy's mouth to the masses? Mind-blowing.

To know for a fact that Bi Buck (and I'm assuming queer Eddie and queer Buddie) was talked about (again we KNEW but like now we know know, ya know)??? I mean Tim literally said years ago that all the discussions we have about buddie online are the discussions they have in the writer's room. The fact that they TRIED to give it us and were shut down. The fact that we still rallied behind them because we fucking. KNEW?!!?!?!

Like queer fans especially like....I'm not going to get into the history of queercoding/the Hayes Code, but anyone who's been around the block with queer media just knows that writers (not just 911 writers) have done their damndest over the years to give the audience queer characters while still trying to appease their homophobic bosses that control their livelihood and the life of their art in general.

It just fucking sucks that only now, when networks realize that openly queer media sells, that they're finally allowing writers and creators to finally tell their authentic stories.

911 is interesting. They're kinda like the elder Gen-Z/Young millennial cuspers. They started during a time when queer media was allowed some visibility but still had heavy sanctions placed upon it, and so they still dealt with homophobia and discrimination in underhanded and mostly invisible ways, and are living long enough to see the social transition into big profitable open queer media.

It's like...I've heard a lot of elder queer people question why some of their fellow elders are so "mad" that young queer people have it "easier" and can be more "open". The critique is "isn't that what we were all fighting for? So that younger people did not have to deal with what we dealt with?" The same goes for TV. I know a lot of people (like people who came from SPN or the MCU or Merlin or Rizzoli & Isles or Sherlock, etc) are seeing what's happening with 911 and they're experiencing this shock of like "we deserved this" and they did. But now they get to see the fruits of their labor come true for new(er) shows like 911 or RW&Rb or Heartstopper or Heartbreak High, or Interview with a Vampire or Good Omens or Umbrella Acadmey or Euphoria or Yellowjackets or the Haunting of Bly Manor, etc.

It's still a long battle, but occasionally, like now, we get to see these BIG wins, and it should be something to celebrate.

This, combined with the fact that we knew a queer Eddie storyline was also being discussed, tells me all I needed to know. And again, I already fucking knew.

Now all we gotta do is wait. We've already waited this long.

↠ I will block at my own discretion. This is my forest, and I set the boundaries. Underage? Blocked. Pornbot pigeon? Blocked. Bigotted? Blocked. Rude? Blocked. Just be a reasonable human over the age of 18, and you'll be free to roam the woods.

↠ ASKS Always open. I adore asks! Send thoughts, thots, questions, gifs, pics... For now I'll take anonymous asks - as long as everyone plays nice, it'll stay that way. Asks are NEVER a bother and you can ask about anything - questions about my existing works, stuff I'm working on, fandom things, my life... I'll answer within reason (no spoilers, I'm semi-open about my life but do keep some things private, etc).

↠ REQUESTS The only thing I'm actively entertaining requests for is my Cedar Trees Royal AU collection - but even these will be fulfilled subjectively and only as I have time and muse cooperation. Periodically I may host a request fest (as I did for my 300 follower celebration or for other occasions in the future).

↠ TAGLIST At this point in the growing season, I'm not maintaining an official taglist. In the future I will probably set up a secondary/library blog as many other authors have done where you can follow and turn on the notifications. There are only so many hours in the day, explorers.

↠ HISTORY OF ASPEN I grew up in a family that was steeped in all things stories: grandparents, aunts and uncles always telling stories at family gatherings; parents read to me before bed; watching too many movies and cartoons; staying up way past my bedtime trying to sneakily keep the light on to read and read and read; playing elaborate imagination games after school with my best friends (house, princesses, orphans, dance coaches, etc). I wrote my first story in my eighth grade English class where one day in the computer lab we were assigned to write a mystery that was at least one page. I loved it. My teacher said it was good...

That summer our family moved - mere days before I started my freshman year of high school - so that fall before I made friend friends, I read a lot and I started writing. I was desperate for the next Harry Potter book to come out, so I started writing my own... the next year I learned about fan fiction on the internet and that it was a thing. I was drawn into Lord of the Rings fanfic, then I wrote a Pirates of the Caribbean fanfic, and then I went back to Harry Potter and actively wrote in that fandom for around six years.

In college I majored in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing because while I was writing fan fiction, I was also occasionally dabbling with original fiction... the dream was to be a famous writer.

↠ WHY BUCKETS-AND-TREES Buckets because I thought I'd be writing almost exclusively Bucky and Trees because Aspen. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

↠ ASPEN NOW In summer of 2022 I aggressively reclaimed HAVING hobbies in an effort to re-establish Aspen having a life outside of work. I love my career and I've worked incredibly hard to establish myself in the professional world, but... I needed to be more than just my work again.

So, again I write.

Throughout 2023 I'm participating in A LOT of challenges. In 2024 I plan to DO THE DAMN THING and write a novel. I've always intended to, but 2024 will be the year. ↠ MY WORK Primarily I'm writing MCU fan fiction - typically Bucky Barnes or Steve Rogers; but I have a short series for Namor I need to finish; I have written some pieces with Sam, Natasha, Matt Murdock, and Wanda; I have ideas in the works for Thor, Carol, and M'Baku. I've written/may write more for Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans characters. There may be some occasional Harry Potter.

I write a range of fluff, smut, and dark. Nearly all of my work has mature elements whether that's stronger language, sexual situations, or mature themes. HEED THE WARNINGS FOR EACH WORK AND DO NOT READ IT IF IT'S SOMETHING YOU DON'T LIKE. If I miss tagging something properly in the content warnings, please send me a message or an anonymous ask and let me know.

Most of my stories feature a reader insert. Reader is typically female, but when the reader is gender neutral I will designate accordingly! Striving to write an inclusive reader as much as possible, but if I stumble, please send me a message or an anonymous ask and let me know how I can grow.
