It sucks that something as near and dear to me as the DSMP has been tainted by horrific actions of some of its creators. That's obviously not the worst part of the whole situation, and shouldn't be the main focus. But fuck it, i'm not letting them ruin the stories and characters that in large part, only came together because of the fandom. I will make characters into ocs if I have to.

re: boundaries
I've made many posts previously on this subject already, so people are already aware of my stance regarding disliking the way "boundaries" as a concept are used by the mcyt fandom, however I want to have a brief meditation on why this is the case, and a look at common arguments about them.
however i do want to make clear that i don't mind boundaries as a concept, actual boundaries. as in "if you do x, i will respond with y" kinds of boundaries. I think cc are completely fair and understandable in this kind of perspective. if someone makes a kind of content they dislike, they're free to block that fan or express discomfort over it. That's normal.
my critical eye is turned toward the fandom's perception of "boundaries" as a sort of fandom ruleset, either you follow them with the in-group, or you're thrown in the out-group and labelled all sorts of insults, anywhere from a criminal offender to just having people be plain nasty toward you. this in my opinion, really feeds into the fandom habit of having "cliques" as fandoms are social networks that are voluntarily joined. i find it juvenile at best.
at worst, on the other hand, is the concept of mcyt having mixed in kpop stan culture around 2019 with smplive (great server. horrific fandom at the time it was run. all of the smplive fans still left are veterans worthy of respect for surviving that.), which caused a very explosive mixture.
kpop fandom has this outlook and parasociality toward idols because these idols are borderline unreachable. even in smaller groups, companies generally (not always.) discourage idols from talking one-on-one selectively with fans. there deserves to be a more thorough examination of kpop fandom with stan culture, that i believe i am not fully qualified for. my point is that kpop idols are a hell of a lot harder to reach for english fans, whether through language barrier or through professionality done by companies.
the explosive mixture is bringing this same mentality - the mentality that these people you look toward as the main source of the fandom as being untouchable, perfect people. it's dehumanizing in its own right, but aside from that, it creates a dangerous fandom situation. as best shown using smplive with CallMeCarson from before.
CMC is the origin point of boundaries within the MCYT fandom, having held a live in fall of 2019 talking about how a popular danganronpa themed wattpad smplive fanfiction was upsetting for him to read. CMC had an intense fanbase that could and would look up to him no matter what. of course the fanbase would go after and harass this author off of the internet and deleting their work (which remained lost media until this January of 2024. Almost half a decade.) after this situation, only months later it comes out that CMC had in fact been manipulating women aged 17 to early 20s, into sexual dms and sending him explicit photos of themselves for around a year. i am of the opinion CMC would have done this behavior regardless, however, the fact he had access to so many women who put him on a pedestal without considering he could exploit them was exacerbated by the stan culture mentality of mcyt's fandom at the time. this is not a criticism of the women, it is a criticism of the fandom culture of the time for failing to treat carson as a human being who had every capability to treat people like this.
no cc is exempt from that mentality by the fandom. carson knowingly used his position within the fandom to make the choice to do that to those girls. no cc should be exempt from the real possibility of the consideration that they can fuck up, not always in the way that they necessarily need to be cancelled or deplatformed, carson is an extreme example that is absolutely not representative of cc as a whole, but there needs to be a healthy level of doubt and separation between creators and fans.
to reiterate: cc are not your friends. cc do not need you to speak for them. you do not know these people personally. to present your defense of them and their personal opinions like you spoke to them directly and are close friends is dangerous, both for yourself, and for other fans in the community.
everything i have listed is why i always will be critical toward any fan group or clique that presents themselves as being pillars of the community, and why i am critical of any page or resource that tries to list "boundaries" as hard fast rules to be self policed by the fandom. not only is that punitive mentality, it's careless and poor understanding of how communities at large work.
i don't think a "boundaries" list is necessarily a bad idea in the long run either, if these lists were, like, compilations of streamers' twitch chat rules, that'd be cool! but generally these lists lack any nuance of why and where some boundaries may apply. like a ton of streamers hate ships being spammed in chat, but could give less of a fuck about people making ship fanart. or like wouldn't care as long as the ship art isn't put in their main tag.
as well as the general ignoring of regular boundaries, we all remember the horror show of people dono-ing to cc in 2020-22 asking for their boundaries right? like just so we're explicitly clear, walking up to someone and asking what someone's opinion of making adult content of them is very much sexual harassment. that's objectively something fans should not be asking to cc. if they want to say something, they can speak up on their own. they do not need your prompting. if you wouldn't ask it to your boss in an office, don't ask cc it. tangentially related is the ignoring of boundaries based on disliking fans harassing each other or other cc. those boundaries never get to be prioritized for a reason, as those behaviors feed into the stan culture mentality of pitting sources against each other in fan wars.
parasociality and stan culture turn mcyt fandom into a power vacuum where fans who like to self-police to a dangerous extent try to take charge. this makes the fandom worse.

Someone: hey this common theme/trend/headcanon in the fanbase is kinda misogynistic.
Some of y'alls: but these are my comfort headcanons and they give me comfort why do you hate fun so much.
Someone: hey it's kinda misogynistic to make Pearl older than the rest of the group when she's actually the youngest 'cause it's projecting a patriarchal expectation on her character without nuance.
Some of y'alls: BUT BUT IT MAKES SENSE IN MY AU AND GRIAN/JIMMY IS JUST SO BABY TO ME. LIKE JIMMY IS SO BABY. GRIAN'S SO UNHINGED AND YOUNGEST CODED. AND PEARL'S MORE RESPOSIBLE THAN THE BOYS. LIKE SHE JUST FEELS OLDER THAN BDUBS AND JOEL.
Someone: Hey I seriously think people in this fanbase should re-evaluate and examine some of their headcanons and portrayals that have misogynistic undertones as things that they need to unlearn from what they grew up with.
Some of y'alls: why do you have no whimsy? :( You could just ignore these headcanons you know? Some of these are made by kids who are inexperienced.
I'm not calling for any form of harassment who do this btw.
[Don't ever do that. You are immediately in the wrong the moment you start harassing other people.]
But maybe a bit of self-reflection or awareness in the fanbase? I know this side of the fanbase has a large demographic that skews younger, but that doesn't mean that these thoughts and ideas shouldn't be corrected.
In fact, I think something like that is important so it could be unlearned earlier but what do I know.
At least I'm calling out sexism 'cause one of my previous fanbases had to constantly call out racism 💀 and yes some of those racism do come from younger fans and people who were around my age at that time.
Idk, this fanbase makes me lose my mind sometimes.

On the Wilbur situation
Tumblr media
I don't care if you decide to drop him, not at all, but I will block anyone who still denies that it's him after Shubble made this tweet. Wilbur was the one who abused her.
She's all but confirmed it, she's just not saying his name. If you want more evidence in good faith, feel free to dm me for clarification.

Watching this all go down when you used to have such investment in these people gives it an extra layer of funny. My heart used to sink when a creator I liked badmouthed Dream. I felt shellshocked for days after the news came out in October. Now I’m sitting here like “TEAAA omg Tommy you messy bitch DRAG HIM BY HIS HOODIE STRINGS slay!!!”

After two tedious days of digging through Twitter, reading and re-reading and a lot of deliberation, I present to you: The Scott Smajor Twitter Hell Vortex Doc
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to make it very clear that the purpose of this document is not to pass any sort of moral judgment on Scott or anyone else involved in the Scott Smajor Twitter Hell Vortex.
The purpose of this document is to act as a masterpost of information regarding the events that occurred from August to November 2023 that resulted in Scott retreating from Twitter and his newfound "controversial" reputation amongst the fandom.
I've been seeing a lot of fans old and new alike confused about the events and why some people dislike or refuse to acknowledge Scott in fanart/fanfic, so hopefully this will be something able to be pointed to when an explanation is needed (because, god, a lot of stuff happened). A lot of the events are not easily explained because context is so crucial.
Please let me know if you believe there's anything I should add or if there are any amendments you'd like to make ✌️

Listen I’ve looked at various dtblr blogs/twitters and for however many people are finally disavowing those ccs their are still more planning to stay and keep supporting their ccs. Talking about the situation in refrence to the Dream situation, and how they were able to “survive that” as if that so called dark time in their fandom wasn’t fucking grooming allegations. These people don’t care, they are simply waiting for this to blow over. They expect this to be forgotten in a few months. Even the ones who are leaving have zero remorse for taking part in a fandom which has proven time and time again to hate victims. They’re already trying to downplay what happened and paint George as a victim.
Do not let these people get away with that.

here we go again. serious post time. This one is about a very serious topic, and could be very sensitive for some people (cw: manipulation, domestic abuse). if you aren’t aware, this is about Shelby (and Wilbur, which is mainly who this post is about, but reminder that THIS IS NOT HIS STORY. TOSS HIM ASIDE. LIFT SHUBBLE UP.). There is a TLDR at the bottom, as well as a comment regarding my fics.
Shelby (Shubble) recently spoke about an ex boyfriend who abused her. People were guessing it was Wilbur, but she couldn’t say the name due to legal things, but today the scumbag posted a response. He tweeted an “apology”, that spoiler alert, was not an apology. Here is his sorry excuse of a reply if you’d like to read for yourself:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are some things I’d like to point out here. First of all, he made this about himself. It’s not a damn apology, it’s a lousy attempt at avoiding taking responsibility. Second, he refers to the abuse as an “allegation.” It is not.
He locked her in his filthy ant-infested house. He refused to give her house keys even when he made her clean up after him and pay for the materials. He went two months without unpromptedly complementing her. He bit her so hard that it bruised and she would scream out their safe word. At the safe word he would sometimes bite harder, or grind his teeth against her skin. He joked that she looked like she was abused.
By the way, human bites are more dangerous than an animal bite. They’re incredibly dangerous due to the amount of bacteria in our mouths and can easily kill someone. Oh and also? That reply has an 85% match with AI generated content on TurnItIn, a website used for college papers.
Here are some responses to his “apology” from other CCs, as well as Shelby’s response:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You hear Shubble. They don’t accept it, meaning neither will we.
As far as other response go especially Freddie and Billzo’s are incredibly concerning. Do not, I repeat, do not pressure Tommy in particular to respond as quickly. He was one of the closest people to Wilbur. He was very young when they became friends, and Wilbur clearly has a history manipulating teenagers. They went through a friend’s death together. Maybe he did have a soft spot for Tommy, or maybe Tom received the worst treatment of any of his friends.
Phil is currently out of the country and off of Twitter, so he might take a bit to reply as well as the fact he may only now be realizing that he was close friends with an abuser. If he supports Wilbur, we drop him too.
Wilbur does not deserve support. He is a terrible person. He manipulates people for his own benefit, “abuses those he loves”. If you’re abusing someone? You do not love them.
I have dealt with plenty of people like him, and it is so easy to miss the signs. Especially if they’re good at what they do. They gaslight, they lie, and they trick you. Do not assume that anybody knew about his abuse just because they were friends with him.
Go support Shelby. Encourage her. Follow her and watch her videos. She’s so incredibly sweet and funny, and they’re a joy to watch. Shelby is asexual and uses she/they pronouns.
There is no excuse for supporting him. I have followed Wilbur since late 2020. I was there for the first Lovejoy EP. I was there for YLYL. I have merch from Lovejoy. He has been a huge comfort to me through some of the hardest times of my life. When this came out, I have blocked both Lovejoy and Wilbur on Spotify. I have taken down every piece of merch or posters I own. Don’t support him, period.
He did not care about her. He is a terrible fucking person, and deserves to be deplatformed entirely.
As far as my fics go, I will be (once again) removing his character entirely from any story I have. It may take a while as I’m incredibly busy at the moment, but I will be doing it as quickly as possible.
One final reminder: This is about Shubble. This is NOT about Wilbur. Let Shubble take her time to process this. Support them every step of the way. She is a wonderful person and deserves the world, and the best thing we can do is focus on them and their strength through all of this. They don’t want to be known for this. Let’s get him gone and focus on lifting her up <3
TLDR: Wilbur basically admitted to abusing Shelby in an incredibly self-centered and manipulative excuse of an “apology”. Do not support him, go support Shubble.

tell me whey i'm seeing legit twitter discourse over fucking q!tubbo and fred????? like seriously i saw a tweet actually mad at q!tubbo for "pushing his crush" on fred while fred is in the midst of essentially a crisis???? ABOUT A TWEET CC!TUBBO POSTED ASKING IF HE AND FRED COULD BE LIKE THE ROBOTS FROM WALL-E.
Look, i'm not caught up on lore right now, and I have a lot of catching up to do about q!tubbo and fred's relationship evolve over time, from what ive seen of their relationship this is a very cute story line tbh. q!tubbo falling for a federation worker and introducing him to what it means to be human. like that's adorable!!!! I love this little love story going on right now!
First of all- the tweet isn't canon. Fred the Character isn't going to see this EVER. it's just cc!tubbo memeing about his story line right now. Secondly- IN CANON, q!tubbo has been very respectful to Fred. Fred found out about the crush when q!Bagi told him, and when he expressed discomfort q!tubbo immediately apologized and felt awful. He is prioritizing Fred's feelings! If q!tubbo was pushing his crush, he wouldn't have done those things. q!tubbo wasn't even rejected! Fred is just unsure about what feelings are, but still thinks q!tubbo is very important to him. Just because q!tubbo talks about Fred and his crush by himself/to chat and cheers when he finds out Fred is his age (roughly) -again- BY HIMSELF, doesn't mean that he is being disrespectful. What is important is how he treats Fred, and he's been nothing but kind to Fred and hasn't pushed anything. Besides, navigating a crush is hard (i've heard lol) and he isn't being rude, he's being awkward. He's being normal, actually.

TW: mentions of domestic abuse, mcyt discourse:
Everyone please remember that supporting Shubble is NOT Just commenting support, it’s NOT attacking Wilbur (although that’s not a bad thing), it’s NOT flocking to her channel to see the drama.
Go watch her videos. Go watch her series. Recent or old, it doesn’t matter. Go support her. Support her channel. Show appreciation for her content.
If you’re someone who only knows her from this situation, please go look at her other content. She’s an amazing creator.
Let’s not reduce her to this Wilbur situation. She’s incredibly talented as an artist, so don’t just go, watch her videos, comment your appreciation for her content.
When the dust settles, lets let Shubble come back to a wave of love and comments, not just for her speaking out but for her as a creator.

Like even if Dream had one hundred percent proven his innocence their, with the way Dream stans have been behaving in the lead up to this video (and in general) is just another reason this man should not have a platform. Every cc has toxic fans. Every cc has bad eggs. But the way these people acting like teary-eyed widows seeing Dream off to fight a war isn't funny it's disturbing. Like this is legitmately disturbing how he's got so many young people so thoroughly invested in him, how his fanbase is now purposely trying to AVOID the sharing of information, the way they call anyone rightfully disgusted by him a 'dranti' and warn each other about being fucking doxxed... It's gross.

like if you make a joke about sex involving an underage person it’s a rape joke. you can’t just say “it’s out of context” you made a joke about someone underage being raped now apologise WITHOUT blaming anyone else or you’re a fucking freak. like i don’t mean grovel forever but you can’t go “well these people did it too mum” like dream did when people shouted at him for making a joke about being a paedophile (which he still calls lighthearted bc child sexual abuse is so funny apparently) or blame the underage person for initiating which… dream also did actually (tommy would have been underage where he lives at the time.

Uh as for what has been revealed, I will no longer be supporting Wilbur soot or lovejoy. As much as it pains me to stop listening to lovejoy (I’ve loved their music since I’ve joined the fandom and it’s also what started me into my slide back into the mcyt fandom) I will. I wish the best of luck on the path to recovery and all the support to Shelby and the others this man has hurt with his actions and words.
Personally, I will be taking a step back from any more of what is happening for my own mental health. I’m not quite sure what I will be doing with c!Wilbur and c!tntduo content consumption as I feel that c!Wilbur has been thoroughly cemented as his own character but they are still in some way related. I think I’ll just have to wait and see how comfortable I feel with it in the future.

one point i think the life series community needs to understand with the misogyny and sexism is the major double standard between things that happened in previous seasons vs what gem did in secret life
basically as i was rewatching grian's third life pov yesterday i remembered that thing where grian and scar covered the desert in tnt and planned to kill all the dogwarts guys off (which failed but the intention is the point) and then in the finale there were just attacks and all out fighting
yet people hated when gem had the boogeyman infection in secret life because it was too forced or smth.
secret life was a longer season than most and with christmas coming up and heritcraft season 9 ending it made sense to get more reds on a server and have someone make that happen. the tasks were random (to my knowledge)
the double standard between what gem did with traps, her and pearls teamup, the boogeyman curse is all what she gets hated for but when a male player does things in the life series at the same level of gem's actions its never talked out or made out to be an issue
and i can garentee there's more examples apart from third life and people have stopped realising what the life series "rules" actually are. there are no rules. its a hardcore series where you arent required to be allied with anyone and can abide by what your colour says you can do.
the task said to infect everyone so gem infected everyone. anyone that's actually mad gem did her task honestly isnt worth arguing with but i just wanted to say smth because it makes me so mad that gem had to turn off her comments and deal with blatant misogyny over a minecraft series where she played so incredibly well and was a great pov to watch this season.
