I just want to get things out of my chest.

As someone who only watches the dream smp lore wise and only watches like 2 or 3 content creators related to the SMP (aimsey, ranboo, tinakitten), and as a dream stan let me be the first to say: I get it, Dream did some problematic shit, I accept that he's done upsetting stuff.

But that's not what i am gonna talk about, I am going to go on a quick little ramble so bear with me, first and foremost it's the generalization of the fandom being all white. Just a quick reality check for everyone, there will be BIPOC stans in every fandom. There's no predominantly white fandom space, you will see BIPOC individuals enjoying things that they like.

Antis when they find out that there are BIPOC people in fandom spaces that they dont like:

To the antis, I get that you spreading a whole twitter thread on dream's bigoted views from many years ago will make people aware about his past, I understand stand that. Hate to break it to you, it sounds performative.

Every single POC and white stan in the fandom always say that we are holding Dream or any CC accountable for their actions.

Every time dream is trending on twitter you always bring up the same thing over and over again, it's starting to sound like that one SpongeBob clip where bikini bottom is in shambles and SpongeBob goes "We did it Patrick, we saved the city!" Calling out a white Minecraft youtuber about his bigoted past which he acknowledges and accepts that his past views were shit and is willing to change isn't the activism you think.

Not to mention, BIPOC stans within the dream smp community also get shit by their white peers.

With that being said, at the end of the day Dream is a rich man and he's living his best life with his three friends and I hope he keeps listening to marginalized voices within his fanbase in order to be a better person.

The stupid “activity requirement” comment is starting discourse on twitter already. If Ranboo wants to leave the dsmp Dream isn’t going to stop him you fucking freaks. If Tommy and Wilbur want to end their stories encouraging them to be consistent in steaming their ending to get it over with is a good thing.

Lots of servers promote people playing on the damn server, activity requirement literally could mean ‘hey maybe log in once a week so the server isn’t called dead’. Karma land has a requirement to steam like get over yourselves you are the reason people hate going on that damn sever and I wish it ended so all you cunts can finally fuck off. I don’t even watch lore but get over yourself.

You cry when there’s no content and you cry when people have a fix for content like make up your damn minds.

Seeing the usual “[famous person] interacted with [another famous person], who’s a homophobe/transphobe/islamophobe/etc., so You shouldn’t like them” and it’s… hmm.

I can see the problem from both sides (though honestly I’m biased towards one). Like, I can understand how someone would dislike to see a streamer they enjoy interact with someone that has said harmful things, especially if it’s a person from the community that has been harmed.

I saw someone who didn’t like Karl partly because he’d streamed with Lil Nas, who apparently is an islamophobe. And I get that. I do.

But also I don’t think it necessarily makes Karl a bad person? I mean, did he even know Lil Nas is islamophobic? I’ve listened to his music, and I certainly didn’t.

But even if he had, I’d still debate over it. I mean, partly because accepting that idea would mean I am a bad person too.

Why? Well, I’m bisexual, and I go to a very conservative university (the less conservative one was a worse option for me for unrelated reasons), so I have many Catholic classmates, one of whom is a very sweet girl who’s very smart and always sits at the front. I sit there too when I can, so we’ve spoken a lot. She’s very nice, always willing to help with the harder stuff. Kinda shy, too, she didn’t have many friends in school. She teaches math and chemistry to high school kids.

She’s also believes that marriage should be between man and woman. Yeah. And I know that and still talk to her. Does that mean I’m a bad person? Am I a bad person for also speaking to my homophobic, racist relatives? I don’t like that about them, and I argue when I can, but I also shut up a lot of the time.

Is my mom, who has a girlfriend, a bad person for being friends with her homophobic coworkers?

I don’t know, this is just a rant. Probably not making much sense and surely someone out there can put this into words better than I did but anyway, I needed to get it out of my system.

And also disclaimer: I know we shouldn’t forgive everything a cc does if they do shitty stuff, but I also see people taking it to an extreme. Things aren’t purely black or white. I could be wrong about this, and I’d love it if someone has anything to add, wether it be for or against my points.

mcyttwt users: use tag filtering

oh also mcyttwt users make sure to take advantage of the blocked/filtered tags feature. this is in your settings, and you can block crit, neg, or any triggers you just don’t want to see on your dashboard, and it’ll filter the post for you. this is completely private and only helps to make your tumblr experience better.

MAKE SURE NOT TO CENSOR THESE WHEN YOU’RE BLOCKING THE TAG. the blocked tag feature will block these tags EXACTLY and not things similar to them (for instance if you block #self h/rm, it won’t block posts tagged with #self harm.)

so, if you really want to make sure you don’t see anything on a particular subject you’ll also want to block all variations of a tag. this can mean if you want to block #self harm, you should block: #self harm, #self harm tw, #tw self harm, #self harm cw, #cw self harm, #// self harm, #self harm //, #tw sh, #cw sh, etc.

i know it’s tedious, but it’s worth it to take a little time and filter out what you need to. and there’s no shame to what you block. crit of a character you like? go ahead. a ship you just don’t want to see? knock yourself out.

oftentimes, if someone didn’t tag something (trigger/content warning wise) that you think should be, you can ask them to tag it and they most likely will (be polite!) but if you go to a blog centered around a certain character, and ask them to tag any mention of that character, they may just decline and that’s okay! just scroll past their content or even block them entirely if you don’t want to interact with them.

i think twitter has different social ideas around blocking, but here you can block anyone for just about anything and no one really gives a shit. block someone for making takes you don’t like, block someone for filling maintags with unrelated content, most times people block others they haven’t even interacted with, and it’s fine.

block what you need to, reblog content you like (especially from artists), change your profile picture from the default ones, write in the tags, DON’T put mcyt posts in the #minecraft of #mineblr tags, and you’ll be just fine.

The longer I'm away from Twitter, the more I realize how much I like Tumblr... Some aspects of Tumblr of course! Things feel a bit more isolated to me on here how I use Tumblr, and there's so many good theories that can go into long explanations you really can't do on twitter. Yeah there were people I liked seeing back on twitter, but when I go on it I just feel awful with all the discourse retweeted... Even for defending, I don't want to see constant repetitive neg on people I like.

yep, twitter's highs are high and its lows are low. the culture of qrts combined with a short wordcount makes discussion really hard and dogpiling really easy. meanwhile tumblr's chain reblogs, long wordcounts, and tagging system both fosters discussion while also allowing users much more privacy to their posts. it's hard for me to stay away from twt when my obsession gets bad (sometimes i cant stop the impulse and tumblr doesnt have enough content) and yeah, for every amazing fanwork. theres a tweet filled with neg.

its odd, though. ive been on armytwt for six years now, yet ive learned to block out fanwars really well and i have a good time on there. but even after dsmp, i still can't stomach mcyttwt's negativity. i think its because i know the creators see it and respond to it directly. meanwhile tumblr discourse stays hidden.
