Fanart for my dear friend @lanaserra for her newest fanfic:
Title: All it takes is a push (or a demonic cultivator)!
Pairings: Destiel, Wangxian
Rating: Teen
Words: 17,932
It’s a crossover but if you only know supernatural don’t hesitate to read it, you can totally understand it and it has much Destiel goodness

One afternoon while Wei Ying is preparing dinner, A-Yuan looks up from his toy trucks and asks, “Baba, how comes lots of people in my class have a mom, but I don’t?”
Wei Ying’s hands falter at the chopping board. “Every family is different,” he explains carefully. “One mom, two moms, one dad, two dads. There’s loads of options.”
“But who decides?”
“What do you mean, baobei?” Wei Ying asks.
A-Yuan looks at him like he’s being silly. “Who decides who gets one baba, or two babas, or ten babas?”
Wei Ying laughs. He’s relieved A-Yuan only seems curious and isn’t upset. “Well, grown ups usually decide if they want a husband or a wife. And then they have baby radishes together.” He gives A-Yuan’s nose a gentle poke, making the boy giggle. “But some people like me decide to do it alone.” His explanation is probably not the best, but A-Yuan’s questions have admittedly taken him by surprise.
“So grown ups can have a husband or a wife…” A-Yuan holds up two sticky fingers to demonstrate. “And Baba still doesn’t have anyone?”
“I—” Wei Ying is gobsmacked. He stares at A-Yuan with his mouth agape. A-Yuan looks at him expectantly, like he’s waiting to hear an explanation as to why his Baba is incapable of finding love. Wei Ying quickly turns away and starts plating out their food. “Dinner’s ready.”
“Aunty Yanli said—”
“Eat up, baby.” Wei Ying grins wide and feeds A-Yuan a mouthful of rice, effectively shutting him up. And that’s the end of that.
Or so he thinks.
The next morning on the school playground, A-Yuan escapes from Wei Ying’s hold the second he spots Lan Jingyi, running into his friend’s arms like they’ve been separated for years. They see each other every weekday, and sometimes on the weekends too.
Wei Ying laughs and spots Jingyi’s dad looking similarly amused. The sun is out today and Lan Zhan’s pretty eyes sparkle in the sunlight. He’s utterly breathtaking. Wei Ying's heartbeat still stutters every time they see each other, and they see each other almost every day. It’s humiliating, really.
“Good morning, Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan greets, voice as rich and low as ever.
“Morning, Lan Zhan.” Wei Ying gives him a big, beaming grin. “How was your weekend without us?”
Lan Zhan doesn’t quite smile, but there’s laughter in his eyes. “Messy. Jingyi got into—”
“Mr Lan! Mr Lan!” A-Yuan runs back over and attaches himself to Lan Zhan’s leg like a limpet, creasing up his neatly ironed slacks.
“Yes, A-Yuan?” Lan Zhan’s hand instinctively goes to A-Yuan’s head, patting it like he does his own son’s.
“Baba needs a husband, Mr Lan,” A-Yuan says.
Wei Ying’s blood runs cold, his whole life flashing before his eyes. “A-Yuan, no—!” he splutters, trying to get the boy to stop.
But A-Yuan forges ahead without a care, voice filled with glee. “Can you marry my Baba please, Mr Lan? Then me and Jingyi can be real, actual brothers and be together forever! And then— And then we can all live happily ever after!”
“That’s enough, A-Yuan!” Wei Ying exclaims. His body feels like it’s on fire and he can hear the blood rushing in his ears. He crouches down to be at eye level with A-Yuan, despite the shakiness of his legs. “Remember what we said about thinking before we speak?”
“Ummm… that we should think before we speak?” A-Yuan blinks his innocent doe eyes up at him like he hasn’t just ruined Wei Ying’s life.
“Exactly,” Wei Ying sighs. But he doesn’t have it in him to get upset or annoyed with his son. “It’s time for you to head into class. Your teacher’s waiting for you.” He kisses A-Yuan on the forehead. “Bye bye, radish. Love you.”
“Bye bye, Baba! Love you too!” A-Yuan gives him a fat, slobbery kiss right back and then skips off to his classroom, hand in hand with Jingyi.
Wei Ying grits his teeth and slowly stands back up. Time to face the music. “I’m so sorry, Lan Zhan. I promise I didn’t put him up to it.” He doesn’t quite have the courage to meet Lan Zhan’s eyes. “He’s been asking questions about families and moms and dads and I don’t know, maybe I didn’t explain things properly. I’m so sorry, Lan Zhan.”
“No need to apologise,” Lan Zhan tells him.
“No, but there is!” Wei Ying insists. “Tell me how I can make it up to you?”
When there’s no response, Wei Ying braces himself and hesitantly looks up. Only to find that for some strange, inexplicable reason, Lan Zhan is smiling. “Let me take you out to dinner, Wei Ying.”
“What?!”
“A date,” Lan Zhan explains, like it isn’t clear enough already. “To make it up to me.”
“But Lan Zhan, I— You—” It seems that all Wei Ying is capable of today is sputtering and making a fool of himself.
Lan Zhan steps closer, still with that amused glint in his eyes, and gently brushes away a strand of hair that’s blown into Wei Ying’s face. “Don’t you want to live happily ever after, Wei Ying?” he asks.
Wei Ying feels like he’s died and gone straight to heaven.

I'm a little late, but I realized Jin lings birthday just passed like a couple hours ago and I had this drawing I did a while back!
A nice little sneak peek of Jin Ling's and Fairy's design for Ghost of Mine! I always thought it was odd that Fairy was simply "black" in the novel but is portrayed as a husky everywhere else- so I looked into black dogs indigenous to china and picked out the Tibetan mastiff ❤
Fairy is the best support dog, she comfort (❁´◡`❁)

LWJ... Is that you? 🤔
Saw this on Facebook and instantly thought of LWJ doing this after moving house and noticing a tired, worryingly skinny fox trying to get comfortable under a peony shrub in his new garden.
Foxxian can't believe his luck! The next night he visits he finds a plush, comfy basket and snuggly blankets that smell like sandalwood nestled in amongst the shelter of the pink peonies. The night after that, there is fruit and vegetables (green ones he refuses to eat - he's hungry, but he's not THAT hungry). The night after that he arrives to find meat, actually MEAT and it's not raw, it's been cooked. It's so tender and tasty and foxxian can't gobble it down fast enough before he falls asleep all cosy in his heavenly scented bed, curled up amongst the layers of soft blankets.
Just as his sharp eyes slowly began to close, his belly full and his mind drifting off to the land of nod, he could have sworn he saw a beautiful man approaching him, hand lowered to show he meant no harm.
Long fingers messaged that spot between his pointed ears on the top of his head, the one that he never knew could feel so good to have stroked. He can no longer resist the temptation of sleep, too relaxed to care that someone knelt beside him, smelling just as intoxicating as his new favourite place to sleep.
Before he drifts off into an amazing, warm and comforting dream, he thought he heard the man speak. A deep, alluring voice that made his heart soar.
"Wei Ying..." the handsome man all but whispered.
This voice. This scent. This blurry outline of a lithe, beautiful man. So familiar... So comforting...
His last hazy thought drifted through his mind like a rolling cloud in a clear blue sky... Lan Zhan?

The whole exes to lovers trope for Wangxian just doesn't work. It would never happen.
The minute WWX and LWJ know how each other feels, that's it!
They are all systems go! Totally and utterly head over heels in love with each other. They are an unstoppable force of pure devotion.
Once they are aware of their true feelings and come together as a couple there are no misunderstandings any longer, they are completely on the same page. There are no secrets, no things left unsaid, just utter commitment.
There is literally no reason for them to break up and become exes in the first place. So having such a thing in fanfic is just out of character.
Wangxian fall so deeply in love with each other that there is nothing that would stop them being together. Absolutely nothing.

take a random snippet
“You know how to pick locks?” Lan Jingyi said in a voice usually reserved for his idols and golden-brown chicken nuggets.
“Why do you know how to pick locks?” Ouyang Zizhen echoed, significantly less impressed and shifting around his phone so much that the screen was practical useless at providing light. It was fine, Sizhui had done this in a pitch dark cellar before. Shady far-away street lamps and one shaky phone were an actual improvement.
The lock clicked and Sizhui shoved it aside. “I feel like you’re purposefully forgetting my father is an internationally wanted criminal.”
“But you’re not,” Lan Jingyi protested. “Just cause Hanguang-jun’s my cousin, doesn’t mean I’m automatically a great cultivator.”
Lan Jingyi was, actually, significantly better than anyone else of his age group, but Sizhui saw his point, even if it was incorrect.
“I’m actually a kidnapped indentured servant, if you want to get accurate,” Sizhui muttered under his breath. It wasn’t quiet enough - he heard his friends gasp, up what did it matter if somewhere in Jin Ling’s family’s murder basement was a file for little Wen Yuan. He hadn’t gone by either name in years and they were currently combing through the murder basement to free his not dead undead uncle and hopefully make it back to class in the morning without anyone noticing.
Someone would notice, at the very latest his aunt when she found her brother standing in front of her again, but maybe they were lucky enough to get in and out without being detected.
As if sensing his thoughts and deciding to shit in his dinner, the alarms started blaring.
Fuck.
None of this would’ve happened if Sizhui had just kept his mouth shut about the inaccurate lure flags.

my favourite detail about most mdzs fanfics is that whenever someone(a character) mentions wen qing, they are always like, "wen qing is/ was a doctor, right?" and both wei wuxian and wen ning always reply with "the best" and that just makes my heart go so soft!!

"Break It 'til You Make It!" - a wangxian au
I'm imagining a scenario where WWX has a DIY channel where he does shit like this to his house while he learns
Meanwhile LWJ, a man who actually knows what he's doing hate-watches the channel
(until he finds himself love-watching it)
WWX has mentioned in the past where he lives and it turns out they're in the same city
LWJ used to fantasize about running into WWX somewhere someday and eating chewing him out about his reckless projects
Won't somebody please think of the resale value?!
One day, he sees this video and it finally breaks him
LWJ messages him like "please let me fix this" and WWX is like "lolll sure! But only if i can make a video out of it"
LWJ agrees because it's free advertising for his business without the need to network and not at all because WWX smiles as bright as the sun
WWX is delighted to learn about the existence of something called a "stud finder" and eagerly tests it out
WWX: "So I just press this button and move it around?"
LWJ: "It has to be flush with the wall."
WWX: *waving it around in the air* "Hm... Oh? Wait! I think I got something!" *holds it up to LWJ* "Beep beep beep! It works! Looks like I found a stud!"
LWJ: *ears turning bright red* "The tool does not beep when it locates a stud. A red light turns on."
WWX: "I beg to differ. Viewers at home, you all heard that beeping right? It was beeping like mad!"
LWJ: "You should not mislead your viewers."
WWX: "Who says I'm misleading them? They're obviously all smart people since they decided to tune into my channel," *WWX winks at the camera* "they can decide for themselves!"
LWJ: *gives him a pointed look*
WWX: "Hahaha what's that look? Of course I have the smartest and most beautiful viewers in the world! You're a viewer too, aren't you?"
LWJ: *ears turn more red and he clears his throat* "Please allow me to show you how to use this tool correctly."
WWX: "You can show me anything you want, Stud."
LWJ: "..."
WWX: "..." *hands stud finder back over to LWJ* "...Beep! Oh wow, you guys definitely heard it that time, right?!"
Anyway it's such a hit that it becomes a recurring segment once a month where WWX gets LWJ to come in and fix all his failed DIY projects he's been up to
And eventually viewers start to notice little things like a second toothbrush in WWX's bathroom while he's attempting to build his own medicine cabinet, or that he seems to have a helper with a very steady hand working the camera as he films his next creative disaster
Until one day WWX posts a "temporary hiatus" video where he explains he won't be uploading anything new for the next few weeks because he's going on his honeymoon!
But stay tuned because after that there will be a BIG project announcement!
WWX: "Lan Zhan! My most devoted viewer!"
LWJ: "Mn."
WWX: "Thank you for being here for the big announcement!"
LWJ: "Of course, Wei Ying." *still smiling like the smitten little kitten he is*
WWX: "You're actually a big part of this next project, huh? And not just because you're going to fix all my mistakes, right?"
LWJ: "Indeed. I'd like to think of us as equal partners in this and all future endeavors."
WWX: "Me too." *smiles back equally obviously in love* "Okay, viewers! Drumroll please! Our next big project is............ A NURSERY!"
LWJ: *somehow managing to look even more in love than he was 5 seconds ago* "Mn."
WWX: "Surprise! This guy married me!" *shows off his and LWJ's matching rings* "And we're expecting!"
LWJ: "--the adoption to be finalized shortly."
WWX: "Exactly! And we've gotta get this place ready for the little guy, so stay tuned for our busiest season yet! I'll try my best to break as much as possible!"
LWJ: "You mean you'll try your best not to break as much as possible."
WWX: "Yep! That sure is what you think I meant!"
LWJ: "Wei Ying..." *looks delightfully exasperated*
*end of video*
And they live happily ever after. The end.

"Lan Wangji has a carefully crafted morning routine, he wakes at 5, makes his breakfast, goes for a run, returns home and showers, spends some time looking after his rabbits, and then heads to work to get to the shop for 7 sharp to start caring for the plants and be ready to open for customers at 8am.
His evenings vary slightly, coming home after closing up the shop and allowing the rabbits to roam his apartment, cooking dinner for himself and on occasion eating with his brother or friends, and then otherwise winding down by meditating or reading until it is time to shower and prepare for sleep.
His only other indulgence is his music, playing his guqin or composing songs to send out to his friends for their various projects.
He rarely deviates, doesn't have a reason to, his life is full no matter what his brother says.
He isn't lonely."
An excerpt from chapter 1 of the adorable fic "Love in Bloom" by the lovely KikiDoesFanfic.
I had the absolute pleasure of getting to draw this piece as a part of the WIP BIG Bang. I think my absolute favorite part of it was Lan Wangji's soft pining. He cooks for Wei Wuxian ya'll! He does all the little things that shows he cares. We have all these intimate little moments around family and food.
If you love fluff, seeing Wangxian's burgeoning romance in a modern AU, single father Wei Wuxian and smitten florist Lan Wangji, tattooed hottie NMJ with a swooning LXC on the side then you gotta check out their fic!! To be finished soon!

When Lan Qiren extends an invitation to lunch, Wei Ying is admittedly very suspicious. Lan Qiren’s never made any effort to hide his dislike for his youngest nephew's partner of choice. The last time they came face to face, he’d not just ignored Wei Ying, but openly spoken about setting Lan Zhan up with a family friend. So a sudden change of heart seems highly unlikely.
“You do not have to accept the invite. He hasn’t given you any reason to want to see him,” Lan Zhan says when Wei Ying tells him about the strangely amicable text messages he’s received from his uncle.
But he sees the glimmer of hope in Lan Zhan’s eyes. He knows how much it hurts him to see his family at odds with Wei Ying. He didn’t even get to celebrate the new year with them this year because he refused to go if Wei Ying was not invited, despite Wei Ying repeatedly telling him it was okay.
So the least Wei Ying can do is try his best to fix things for Lan Zhan’s sake. Especially if Lan Qiren is extending an olive branch.
He spends an embarrassing amount of time getting ready, not wanting to give Lan Qiren more reason to dislike him. He irons his clothes, takes out his piercings, removes his nail varnish and ties his hair up as neat as he can manage. It’s a good thing Lan Zhan has already left for work, or he’d look at Wei Ying sadly and tell him not to change himself for anyone.
The restaurant Lan Qiren has picked is fancy to say the least. Wei Ying feels astoundingly out of place, but manages to walk in with his head held high. He’s arrived exactly on time but Lan Qiren is already seated at the table.
Wei Ying greets him and takes a seat. He thinks he sees Lan Qiren nod ever so slightly in response. It’s one step above being completely ignored like last time, so they’re off to a good start he tells himself.
The restaurant is not very busy at this time. Only faint music and the clinking of cutlery can be heard. The silence stretches between them. Wei Ying clears his throat. “How have you been, Uncle?” Lan Qiren’s eye twitches. “We haven’t seen each other for a while.”
“With reason.” Lan Qiren doesn’t look at him as he speaks, instead glancing around the restaurant like he’s observing the decor.
Wei Ying tries not to falter. “Thank you for inviting me to lunch, Uncle. I wasn’t expecting it at all, but I’m glad you did.”
“Yes, I suppose it’s not every day someone like you gets to dine at an establishment like this.”
“I’ve come here before, without Lan Zhan.” Wei Ying’s face is beginning to ache with the smile he keeps plastered on. “You forget I grew up with the Jiangs.”
“Grew up with, yes.” Lan Qiren finally looks at him. “But you are not one of them.”
“No, I’m not. I’m your former classmate’s son, if you recall.” Wei Ying tries his very best to remain polite. For Lan Zhan’s sake. “What I meant was that it hurts me to see Lan Zhan unhappy. I’m sure it upsets you too. He is your nephew after all.”
“What upsets me is his inability to discern good from bad. He continues to disappoint me.” Lan Qiren rudely waves away the waiter that approaches their table. “He can’t see that his family has his best interests in mind, not duplicitous outsiders.”
“Did you invite me here to insult me, Uncle?” Wei Ying laughs. “You could have done that over the phone. It would’ve saved you the trip. I know your knees have been giving you trouble recently.”
Lan Qiren scowls. “I called you here to make you an offer.”
“An offer?”
“Ah, that’s piqued your interest, has it?” Lan Qiren strokes his goatee smugly. “As expected.”
Wei Ying is so confused. “I really don’t understand what you’re saying, Uncle.”
“I am not your uncle,” Lan Qiren erupts. “Drop the act, Lan Zhan is not here to see.” He pulls out a pen and paper from his pocket and scribbles something down. “Here.” He slides the paper across the table. “Now leave my nephew.”
Bewildered, Wei Ying looks down at the paper. And then he sees what it really is — a cheque, in Wei Ying’s name. “Huh?”
“Take this money and leave my nephew,” Lan Qiren says calmly.
“What?!”
“Stop playing dumb. This is what you’re really after, right? So take it!” He roughly pushes the cheque the rest of the way. “It’s more than you could ever dream of. Take it and get out of my nephew’s life!”
Perhaps for the first time in his life, Wei Ying is at a complete loss for words. He feels like he’s been teleported into one of those horrible soap operas Madam Yu likes to watch, and Lan Qiren is the evil, scheming mother-in-law.
“No fucking way,” he blurts.
Lan Qiren goes purple with rage. “You insolent—!” But he’s interrupted by his phone ringing.
It looks like the call is important. “Wait here,” he instructs Wei Ying, still looking furious, and then walks off with his phone to his ear. But not before pocketing the cheque first.
Wei Ying can’t believe this is happening. He scrambles to get his own phone out and quickly calls Lan Zhan, keeping an eye out for Lan Qiren.
Despite being at work, Lan Zhan picks up on the second ring. “Wei Ying?”
“Lan Zhan, you’ll never fucking believe this!” he whisper-screams down the phone.
“Is everything okay?” Lan Zhan sounds worried. “Has Uncle done something?”
“No, no. Good news,” Wei Ying reassures him. “He hasn’t tried to run me over or anything this time.”
“This time?” Ah shit. Wei Ying wasn’t supposed to mention that incident to Lan Zhan. “And what is the bad news?”
“Well…” He grimaces even though Lan Zhan can’t see him. “He’s just offered me money to leave you.”
“What?” The disbelief in Lan Zhan’s voice is loud and clear.
“Exactly! It’s like something out of a cheesy K-drama!” In fact Wei Ying’s pretty sure he’s seen this exact scene in a show before. Only difference is Lan Qiren isn’t wearing fur and pearls and a fancy updo. “I don’t know whether to laugh or be angry. Your uncle’s gone insane!”
There’s a long moment of silence on the other end of the line. And then Lan Zhan asks, “How much did he offer?”
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying guffaws. “That’s your main concern? How much? I don’t know, a completely crazy amount. There were so many zeroes on the cheque I lost count.”
“You should take the money.”
“What.” Wei Ying’s heart plummets. Surely not…
“Take the money and stay with me regardless,” Lan Zhan tells him. “He won’t be able to do anything about it.”
“Lan Zhan!” Relief washes over Wei Ying. “Are you telling me to scam your own uncle?”
“Mn. Why not.”
“I love you,” Wei Ying laughs. “I love you so much, Lan Zhan. I hope you know that.” Then he spots Lan Qiren heading back over. “Okay, I have to go now. Talk to you later. Love you, muah!” He blows a kiss through the phone and then rushes to put it away before Lan Qiren sees.
The man takes his seat at the table once again. “You're still here. Well, of course you are.” He takes the cheque out of his pocket and puts it back onto the table, looking smug. “You wouldn’t leave without this.”
Wei Ying looks down at the cheque, unable to withhold his disdain. “This is all you think your beloved nephew is worth?”
Lan Qiren scoffs. “So you want more? I should have known. Name your price. Whatever it takes to be rid of you for good.”
“I will not leave Lan Zhan. Ever.” Wei Ying emphasises each individual word. “I love him.”
“Name your price, boy,” Lan Qiren repeats, getting angrier. “He won’t miss you. I’ll have a hundred eligible young men lined up for him by the end of the week. Men of his calibre, not money hungry vermin like you.”
“Money hungry,” Wei Ying laughs. “But I don’t want your money, Uncle. Not even if you double it, or triple it, or give me everything you own. All I want is Lan Zhan. All I’ve ever wanted is Lan Zhan.”
“And you really expect me to believe that him being the heir to Lan Enterprise has nothing to do with it?” Lan Qiren sneers.
“Nothing at all.” Wei Ying shrugs. “I’ve loved him since we were children. I loved him when he didn’t have a penny to his name after you cut him off for being gay. And I’ll love him till my dying breath, and in every lifetime thereafter.”
“Oh, cut the nonsense!” Lan Qiren’s fists are clenched into the tablecloth. “Do you know how easy it’ll be for me to ruin your life? To destroy everything you care about? I will make your life a living hell!” He bangs his fists against the table, making the plates rattle and the water in his glass splash over. “So if you have an ounce of sense you’ll take the money now and leave peacefully. This is your last chance.”
Wei Ying considers the man carefully. Then he picks up the cheque. He reads it properly this time and realises the figure is even bigger than he’d originally thought. More money than he’ll ever see in his lifetime.
“I think,” he says, and smiles up at Lan Qiren, “You should stuff your cheque, Uncle,” and rips it up into small pieces, throwing them up in the air.
As he walks out of the restaurant he hears the sound of cutlery hitting the ground. The ever composed Lan Qiren publicly losing his cool like this. How embarrassing, Wei Ying thinks, giggling to himself. Lan Zhan is going to be so amused when he hears about it.

.✦ Chapter 30 "Lessons in Patience"
Lan Xichen slid his hand down the window sill, listening to the pittering sound against the stones outside. Usually, he loved the sound of the rain. But all he could think of was walking side by side with his comrade on the battlefield, listening to the fierce storm and enjoying their smaller victories.
Now that there was a chance Nie Mingjue would never walk again, or worse… he wished he had spent more time with him. That’s how it always was though, when you were afraid to lose someone. You always wish for just a little more time.
I had to go with something simpler today because the chapter was under crunch time, but i don't think i did too badly! I hope you guys enjoy the chapter, I'm glad to finally be able to post something! excuse the odd brush choices, I also got a new computer during my away time, and i haven't transferred everything over yet! i need to export the brushes i was using on my other computer, I just keep forgetting and i didn't have time to transfer them before i worked on the piece today.
As always, check out more of my MDZS projects or more GOM in my masterpost ❤ Check out more under the read line.
As a reminder, we had an anniversary last month for GOM and i streamed it! You can see the finished art as well as get the link to my twitch from here.
I'll post it here too though, in case it will help more people see it!
Happy Anniversary! it's been a year since the 15th of January, 2023, when i posted the first chapter of Ghost of Mine! It means a lot to me that i have so many readers and I'm trying my best to stay strong through the writing process so i can give you guys a good experience- and of course me too! My personal goal is to be able to finish Ghost of Mine and do it well, I think i will feel accomplished and have succeeded in making a lot of readers happy!
Either way, this experience has been a ride so far- this fic is a record length for me, surpassing my own writing (a rewrite of an original of mine; a work in progress) and past attempts at fanfiction. I'm very proud of how far I've come, and I'm glad you guys have been with me through it all.

(Cover by @bichen-suibian )
the thread may stretch or tangle but it will never break
Summary: Following the return of Wen Ning's spiritual cognition, Wei Wuxian doesn't pull away quickly enough to avoid Lan Wangji discovering his secret. Largely CQL-verse with some frankencanon. Lan Wangji POV
When Lan Wangji discovers that Wei Wuxian no longer has a core and learns the story behind it, he refuses to leave the Burial Mounds, vowing not to let his zhiji down. Canon diverges from there.
Explicit. WIP. 24/? chapters plus 2 side fics (so far)
Excerpt:
“I can’t… I’ve already damned myself, Lan Zhan. I can’t damn you too.” Wei Ying grabs his arm. “Don’t you get it? I’ll just drag you down, too!”
For a moment, he’s speechless. This isn’t unusual, but rarely is it due to this much emotion. That Wei Ying thinks so poorly of himself shakes Lan Wangji to his core, and he can only wonder how long he has felt this way.
But Wei Ying has never defended himself against jibes and insults, only ever stepping in to defend those he cares for—and sometimes even complete strangers. Does he truly believe he deserves to be treated poorly, to be reviled and left without protection or aid?
“No,” he says finally, when he finds the words. “Wei Ying could only ever lift me up.”
(Just a little fic-pumping)

if nie huaisang had a twin he wouldn't just be one of those twins who occasionally swaps places with their sibling — no, no one would even know that he had a twin.
(no one except for qinghe nie, of course.)
the nie twins would be frighteningly dedicated to keeping up the act so that they would only need to do half the work and attend half the classes/conferences/events/etc.
(notice that i didn't say half the training, since unfortunately da-ge is more than aware that he has two brothers, not one.)
the poor lans at cloud recesses would feel like they're absolutely losing their minds since they know they just saw nie huaisang in class with lan qiren less than five minutes ago, but somehow he's now by the river on the other side of cloud recesses?!
can he teleport? can he just move really fast? can he time-travel? is one of them an illusion or a doppelganger? how can he be in two places at the same time?! no one knows!!
and this of course continues at sect conferences, as well — someone will see nie huaisang sitting by his brother in the meeting hall, but when they leave the room and walk down the hall to go outside, there he is peacefully reading a book out in the gardens! how?!
---
the only way they can really be differentiated is by their sabers, which are similar but not quite the same — but that's irrelevant, since nie huaisang is never seen carrying a saber anway, so how is anyone (outside the sect) to notice?
---
they would be absolutely obsessed with making sure that no one outside the sect ever saw them both at the same time, making an effort to disguise the other in ordinary disciple robes, style their hair differently, and even carry a saber any time that the two of them have to be near each other at the same time.
(but only when they have to be near each other — otherwise, they just make an effort to never be seen together.)
---
both of the twins go to the indoctrination, but one of them goes in disguise.
no one's going to notice if a random little nie disciple goes missing, but they will notice if the nie heir himself disappears. so while one of them stays in place, the other goes exploring...
and when the disastrous night hunt happens, they're able to get help.
(—and maybe nie mingjue himself arrives just in time to wrest that stupid cursed sword away from wei wuxian before he can get any bright ideas, saving us all a lot of heartbreak in the long run...)
