I finally have the courage and motivation to add an introduction in this accidentally!

My name is Author C, or just call me C 🌹

I'm a young woman who loves and adores art! I love to draw, animate, read and write!

I've always been on social media but keep myself quiet and hidden and just liking stuff, since I'm not that confident yet. But after some time, I've grown to encourage myself to show what I can do from this platform. i run another blog, @songfeng-shuiyue, which contains my translations and meta for the mdzs fandom. i’ve recently had a couple of people reblog my posts from there with the tags “worldbuilding” and “lore”.

why this is hurtful

a lot of my posts on @songfeng-shuiyue reference real-world chinese language and cultural practices that date back throughout chinese history. whenever i post something on that blog, i’m taking elements from my own identity and culture to share with anyone who reads them. these elements are interspersed throughout the world of mdzs and cql, and they play a large (albeit subtle) part in shaping the world that our favorite characters live in. some of these practices are still in place today, being used and referenced by actual people we know and love and care about, and it’s an incredibly uncomfortable and unpleasant feeling to feel as though they are being publicly viewed as tropes or quirks to be appropriated at will by someone outside the culture, for a imaginative or derivative setting.

i’ve previously spoken to these individuals over DM to explain my perspective and ask them to remove the tags. each time, they have done as i requested and promised to stop. but over and over again, this behavior has persisted. it makes me not want to share those parts of myself and my culture/language any more, because it really hurts. it hurts even more because one of my favorite things about being in fandom has always been interacting with and befriending people outside of my own culture. because when i do, i naturally always want to share, and learn about them in turn.

this is how i feel. this is how some of us in fandom feel, every single day.

There were times where I wished I could've done more, more for those who I love dearly and more than what they have done for me. Oh, sorry for not introducing myself. I've gotten carried away again...

*ahem* I am Wen Ning, a high school student of Qishan Wen high. I'm really just a normal student who gets above average grades, nothing special other than my love for writing. Recently.. I've bumped into someone.

*Sigh* "someone who holds a special place in my heart.."

Our homeroom teacher decided to make a last minute assignment about someone we hold dear other than family. I honestly don't have anyone else other than my big sister that has a special place in my heart! I don't have a crush right now too! Everyone here is.. In their own friend groups and I'm alone.

We submit our papers and I was last in the line, I stood there shakingly handing over the blank paper.

"Wen Ning, this is the first time you've submitted a blank paper. Is this too hard for you?"

Luckily it was the end of 4th period so I had nothing to worry about others hearing our conversation since they left for the last period.

"I'm sorry miss but I have no one that holds a special place in my heart other than family. I'm afraid I can't do this assignment."

She sighed and took the blank sheet of paper from my hands.

"There is an event in Gusu Lan highschool, try to go there. The event lasts atleast 3 days and today is the 1st day. Maybe you'll find someone there, and when you do, pass me the paper."

She smiled and handed me back the blank sheet as I smiled and nodded. I rushed out only to find out the teacher is absent so we all got an early dismissal.

When I went home Wen Qing, my older sister, has prepared me my favorite dish. Spam Musubi!! I smiled widely as I ate with big bites. We told each other about our day while eating and when I was full, I washed the dishes and rushed upstairs.

I wondered.. "Why does teacher think I'll find someone special?" I honestly chuckled at the thought of me finding that special someone. Tomorrow is friday so I can see the event after class, I'm so excited!! Maybe I'll meet a friend? Or win some prizes??

(Timeskip)

"Woahhh!!" I say in awe as I saw the event. It's so mind-blowingly spectacular! I ran around winning so many prizes and I was almost out of money. I saw a corndog stand and decided to use some of my money left to buy one.

As I paid for my food and savoured the taste of mozzarella cheese melting in my mouth a careless student bumps my shoulder, mistakenly taking me for someone else.

"Jiang Cheng!!"

"AHHHHHHHH!!!!"

We both collapse to the rough floor and I lost my food.. what a bummer.

"A-ah!! I thought you were.. I thought- Oh! Your food! I'm so sorry about that it's just that my brother and I we are so used to tackling each other and-"

The stranger kept rambling an apology while trying to salvage what was left of my food and I pat their back as they ramble some more.

"Hey, it's fine I'm not hurt and it doesn't look like you're hurt either so don't worry!"

I smile and he smiles too as he extends his clean hand.

"I'm Wei Wuxian, nice to meet you!"

"Wen Ning."

We shake hands and Wei Wuxian bought me another corndog as an apology with an extra iced latte to go with it. He suggested we sit down somewhere but everywhere we go we see people occupying the seats. No where to sit whatsoever!

"Hey, I know a place!"

Before I knew it, he grabbed my hand and when he did... Everything felt so slow. His hand was warm despite the cold weather of the sunset, i can feel my heart beat loud and clear, my cheeks turning redder than before, a silly smile on my face as I look at him turning around smiling at me and.. saying something?

"Wen Ning! We're almost there!"

Time returns back to normal and I stumble on how fast we were going but nevertheless, I still catch up. We arrived to a secluded place a bit far from the event but not so far.

The falling petals were so satisfying to watch for some reason. Wei Wuxian patted a place below a Sakura tree and I sat down beside him, taking a big bite out of my corndog and he smiles.

"What do you think? Pretty sweet huh?"

I nod and I admire the sakura tree's petals and flowers. We initiated small talk and soon we didn't even notice it was night! Everyone is finishing up and some booths were closing. We decided to keep in touch and hangout more often.

"I... FINALLY MADE A FRIEND!!"

I jump joyfully and roll on my bed, hugging my pillow as I roll. Listening to him talk felt so calming and I wanted to know more, I really wanted to see him again, I felt so warm and fuzzy throughout the whole intereaction. I chuckle as I burry my face into the pillow.

Seasons and years pass, Wei Wuxian and I have grown closer than ever. I developed a crush for him.. Oh god, I knew he won't feel the same way though. He has eyes for someone else and I know it. The same event hosted by Gusu Lan highschool is today and me and Wei Wuxian made it a tradition to go there. I decided to finallly confess... hopefully. I sat down beside him, leaning in to the same Sakura tree where we once met, I listened to him talk before but now it is me who's talking, He listened to every word I said and I smiled at him warmly as he answers with his opinions and as he jokes.

"You know Wen Ning? You're a really great friend."

*i sigh* "I know I am."

I hear him yawn and I felt his head on the crook of my neck.

"Let me sleep for a bit, I haven't slept much at home."

"Sure go ahead."

I stay perfectly still until he falls asleep.

"How can I not fall inlove with you.. How can I even confess to you? I don't want to ruin what we have, I'll make sure I won't ruin it."

I've tried searching for it but I haven't had any luck (I'm beginning to wonder if it was deleted or if it was actually a Twitter thread instead 😭) basically wx are married but they're both so busy the "spark" is beginning to go out in their marriage. And then lwj gets a new coworker that reminds him so much of a younger wwx and on a business trip he ends up sleeping with him. Summary: After Wei Wuxian’s death, life for Lan Wangji takes a dramatic turn. The same can be said for Qin Su when she discovers her lover of the time is in fact her half brother. She escapes him, pregnant. She runs into Hanguang-jun who helps her out maybe more than she asked for. Years later, Wei Wuxian returns and it’s not to what he expected considering his best friend is now at the will of JGY and his other is married and has a family and his other best friend is a fierce corpse under JGY’s control.

You attended classes with him and even thought he had a weaker spiritual power than yours he still did well on them .

You used to eat lunch with him , Wei Wuxian , Nie Huaisang , Jiang Cheng and Yanli and even sometimes you had the chance to eat with Jin Ling .

You all spend a lot of time together when your schedules aloud you to and had come pretty much closer than you could imagine .

There was times when Ning would drop by your room and play games with you or even try out some new music on guqin .

Your favorite moment of you together was when you went stargazing on the roof .

"my point is that I would really like to take you out on a date .. if you dont like dating we can get married if your family says so - I can do everything you want for us to be together just give me a chance " the words leave his mouth and you can no longer keep your mouth open .

You blink your eyes twice before trying to regain your composure .

"I like you too Wen Ning - no I love you , I always did" you say , brain to burned up to find the proper words to answer .

"So that means that you do want to be with me ? Be my wife even though of my situation?" He asks both to have you reassure him and maybe give you a moment of consideration but you know the answer before he finishes his sentence.

I was thinking about pipe organ Phil, but I'd like to suggest: He's extremely good at the pipe organ, everyone always compliments him on his skills or requests that he plays them a song on it because he's just so good, but he prefers the flute. He's not particularly good at it. He can't play a lot of the high notes because they're hard to play so he sticks to lower melodies. He prefers them anyways, they sound more haunting but also more gentle. 1/2

The meaning of 蓝忘机 (Lan Wangji) / 蓝湛 (Lan Zhan), 忘机琴 (Wangji Qin)

There has been a lot of confusion regarding the meaning of his name so here's a meta.

蓝湛 (Lán zhàn)

游西池 (yóu xī chí, lit. Touring the West Moat) – This is a poem by Xie Jun, the grandson of Jin Dynasty statesman Xie An. In the poem, “Zhan” was used to describe the clarity of the water in the moat.

湛兮似或存 (zhàn xī shì huò cún) – A Taoist reference from Dao De Jing, this phrase describes the way Taoism is formless but pure.

忘机 (wàng jī)

Derived from the phrase 鸥鹭忘机 (ou lù wàng jī), it describes how one should not fraternize with those who have ill intents. This idiom, which dates back to the Warring States, originated from the Taoist text 列子 (liè zǐ). In the chapter titled 黄帝 (huáng dì, lit. The Yellow Emperor), there is a story about a man who loves seagulls, and would go to the seaside to play with them every morning. There were at least a hundred seagulls that would play with him, hence his father said, “I heard that the seagulls like playing with you, why don’t you catch one for me too?” However, when he went to the beach the next day, the seagulls stayed in the air, refusing to approach him. From this story, one can learn that others are drawn to those without ill intentions, and it serves as a warning to avoid those with such intentions.

忘机琴 (Wangji Qin)

During the Song Dynasty, a musician named Liu Zhi Fang adapted the idiom into a guqin song named 忘机曲 (wàng jī qū, lit. the Song of Wangji), which was subsequently renamed 鸥鹭忘机 (ou lù wàng jī). This was probably the inspiration behind Wangji Qin.

A few puny interpretations of his name

汪叽 (wāng jī)

This is a homonym of Lan Wangji’s name. Chinese fans usually use this nickname term affectionately.

There’s a scene that plays out like this in the library of Cloud Recesses (MDZS Donghua 18:40). The picture comprises of a dog and a chicken, and “汪” and “叽” are onomatopoeia of a dog’s bark, and a chicken’s cluck.

There is a possible secondary word play on the idiom 鸡犬不宁 (jī quǎn bù níng, lit translation: even the chicken and the dogs were disturbed, which describes general turmoil). [Wei Wuxian essentially causes 'great disturbances' in Lan Wangji's life so yeah... xD]

狼望鸡 (láng wàng jī)

literally translated as the wolf looking at the chicken, this is another homonymous expression for Lan Wangji’s name. Lan Wangji’s been described as a wolf also because the word “wolf” implies some sort of viciousness, and in reference to his “Everyday” request. A pervert is also called a 色狼 (lit. horny wolf) so it’s a pretty good description.

婉君 (wǎn jūn)

This was known to those who read the first edition of the book. Wanjun is a feminine name, but it appeared in place of Wangji because MXTX made a typo (Chinese keyboards that use pinyin provide suggestions based on the first alphabet typed in – in this case, “W + J”). This then spurred some fans to imagine a feminine version of Lan Wangji.
