Wayne Family Adventures is the emotional equivalent of a chibi version of Batman without actually using chibi designs.

Hear me out: it cleaves to a particular emotional tone (lighthearted), uses simple and bold designs, and all its conflict arcs are short and resolve us back to a baseline equilibrium. It's a nibble of favorite characters doing stuff that might gently tug a heartstring or stab with a tiny knife, but overall it's not meant to be challenging. It's meant to slot into a gap, to reference canon but not necessarily engage.

This thought is brought to you by MDZSQ and the similarities in emotional tone vs other adaptations as I watch chibi versions of my favorite say-yes-to-torture-and-war-crimes necromancer flirt with his bf while trying to keep his pseudo-kid from fully comprehending the horror of the surrounding ongoing genocide.

You know. The fluffy stuff. :)

But! Both are adaptations aka specific versions with specific goals. They're formatted for a particular audience and medium, and I for one find fascinating the choices that authors make in what to highlight and what to downplay. (It's why I like fanfic, after all.)

the mdzs/cql fandom is such a hoot. each of us is convinced that *we* know what canon is and all those dummies who disagree with us are just making shit up, while they're stewing away thinking the same thing about us. and half the time we aren't even talking about the same fucking canon!!! whenever i see someone say something bonkers about a character i'm just like "i assume they are talking about one of the *checks notes* six versions of this creative property that i have not watched/heard/read" and i go about my day. instead of being incensed that people are being wrong on the internet i can just gently pity them for having a canon that seems less cool than my canon.

#there must be people out there who have read the novel AND the manhua AND watched the drama AND the donghua #AND mdzsq AND listened to BOTH AUDIO DRAMAS #but i'm gonna guess that that does not describe the majority of us lol #like can we all just chill out about it #tired of going into the jc tag and seeing people say that people who disagree with them don't understand canon #even when they're saying things i agree with about his character! how about this. mdzs+ is large and it contains multitudes #for all i know jc fucking sucks in the japanese audio drama and i'm not interested in taking that away from anybody #go ahead and feel that way if you want to. in fact i am a little impressed with you for thinking that AND tagging it with his name #sure i blocked you but there's a part of me that admires your chutzpah #the untamed #let's not forget where the word 'canon' came from lol #people arguing about which books to put in the bible #surely everyone will be amicable about these disagreements 😬

Super random rant about Chinese nicknames but

I don't love it when LWJ is referred to as A'Zhan.

I'm not sure why it just feels so off whenever i see it used it in fic. It feels so very OOC. I mean even LWJ's family don't even call him by his birth name by the time he's grown I really doubt they'd call him (or any other lan) by a cute nickname. It's all prim and proper and distant there is no way LXC would call him A'Zhan as a kid. I could maybe see Madam Lan say it and then LXC repeating it in LQR's presence to only be told to stop.

At best I could maybe picture WWX call him Zhanzhan to tease him.

AND Speaking of WWX, I don't like it when he's referred to as A'Ying either. Never in canon is he called that, closest is A'Xian by JYL. It's all just nuance for how even tho JYL is so close to him yet she still doesn't use his birth name

Also it's always the A- nickname. Never a Xianxian or a Xian'er. Not even a super specific creative nickname either. Literally knew a girl called 没吃饭 cuz she didn't eat rice. Hell my nickname as a kid was literally 金鱼 Goldfish, and my dad's nickname with my extended family is Housefly (but in hokkein).

I could totally see someone (maybe his shidis and other sect mates?) jokingly call WWX 排骨汤 (pork rib soup) for how much he brings up the freaking lotus and pork rib soup he loves so much.

Or hell even a pun nickname for wwx, we literally call him WiFi now. Not to mention in mdzsQ WWX calls LWJ wolf looking at chicken (lang wang ji) cuz that's a homophone for LWJ. (ngl tho A'Lang is a pretty cool nickname)

Just yeah this is really random I'm just feeling a little eh about seeing A'Zhan and A'Ying being thrown about willy nilly without considering the family dynamics and relationships playing about
