This ended up tying in my poll last week, so here's a little snippet of the arranged marriage AU.
“No, it had been altered. Quite honestly, the small changes, the deft hand and mind that needed to create this seemed to point to one particular person.” Lan Xichen lifted his eyes to Wei Wuxian.
“Me.”
“Yes.”
“But you don’t think it was me?”
Lan Xichen paused to drink more tea, and then finally stood, his blue and silver robes falling softly around him. “I do not.”
“But why? You would have every reason to believe it was me. Whoever did this clearly went to the trouble of making it appear like I was the culprit. Cursing an ally, someone from my childhood. Someone…someone I was around a lot.”
Lan Xichen tucked a small smile into the corner of his mouth. “I know because you would not harm my brother.”
Wei Wuxian scoffed. He turned away, crossing his arms. “You don’t know that.”
“Be that as it may, the entire affair has concerned me to the point that very few people know about this event. And no one knows that I have come to see you.”
Wei Wuxian spun back around. “Not even Lan Zhan?”
“No. Not even my brother.” They stared at one another, the sounds of the street outside muffled, and Wei Wuxian could nearly feel the weight of something unspoken.
Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore. “So, what could I possibly do to help?”
“I want you to marry my brother.”
Wei Wuxian opened his mouth to retort but an embarrassing squawk came out instead. When he tried to swallow the noise, it turned into a strange, breathy laugh. Heat crawled up his sternum, over his neck, threatening to overtake his face. He blurted the first thing that he could grasp onto. “Ridiculous.” And then he slapped a hand over his mouth.

i'm so bad at remembering wip wednesday. it's been so long since i posted anything for it but i have been writing. this, for example, where nielan spend some time together after the war:
Nie Mingjue does not want for much, has no use for base vices and scorns how easily some men let such things rule them. He has never been moved by beauty alone, and doesn't know what about Xichen makes people who only know him by his appearance sigh and remark on his features above anyone else's, but he does know that the sight of this man fills him. The warmth in his eyes, the curve of his smile, controlled movements and strong, reliable shoulders. And when his fingers curl around the ties in Nie Mingjue's shirt, oh, it creates a deep-dull ache between his legs, makes his knees all too eager to bend. Chifeng-zun will break before he bends to anyone, people say.  How unimaginable that he sits before Xichen now, mouth tracing a hip bone through white silk, tongue tasting the sweet-salt of skin when the zhongdan is untied and discarded. When a hand cups his cheek he leans into it; nuzzles it, almost like an animal shown kindness. Xichen murmurs "oh, beloved," and his other hand sweeps the line of Nie Mingjue's shoulder. He's hard underneath the fabric of his trousers, against Nie Mingjue's collarbone, but the urgency with which he got them here has waned in the moment.  "I missed having you close." Nie Mingjue breathes and feels a relief he hasn't since he saw Xichen in the flesh after Cloud Recesses burned. Xichen's fingers against the side of his throat, Xichen's stomach against his cheek, legs between his own and hips in his hands. Scent, taste, the sound of a beating heart; each sense filled and soothed and here, finally, Nie Mingjue feels like peace has come.

wip wednesday post from ch 4 my currently posting wangxian wip, backfire, in which wwx is an absolute menace in cloud recesses and i abuse the right to write crappy puns.
“You make too many assumptions,” Lan Zhan replies viciously. His boots click loudly against the rock as he breaches Wei Wuxian’s personal bubble in his effort to escape. Wei Wuxian wishes he’d breach more than that as he passes. “Mind your place.” “If my place is on my knees, I’m your man.” Lan Zhan whirls to face him a second time, more active than a spinning top. “Wei Ying!” Before Wei Wuxian knows it, Lan Zhan has caught him by the collar of his robes. For a moment, he thinks Lan Zhan really is going to put him on his knees and almost crumbles right then and there, but then he realizes Lan Zhan’s only plan for him is the hall of discipline, which was his goal all along until he developed higher aspirations in the here and now.

I just realized it's Wednesday! So two snippets from the fighty Chengxian love confession in desires chapter 3 I'm working on currently
“You are in love with me,” Jiang Cheng hisses, still venomous, “and you finally figure out that I’m in love with you, too, and…” “You’re in love with me?!” “…you just come up with some elaborate story that makes you the self-sacrificing hero while you have me believe that you hate me! Because you don’t want me to hate you!” With every word, Jiang Cheng works himself back up to a full bellow. There is barely any distance left between them but Jiang Cheng steps forward anyway, forcing Wei Wuxian to take half a step back if he doesn’t want to be bowled over. “Well, guess what, idiot! This is how you make me hate you!” It's a good speech, Wei Wuxian is sure of that, all kinds of good points made, he is sure, but his thoughts are still stuck on that one point.
was any better! You were just whining at me about all the reasons you just had to be a self-centered, controlling alpha asshole!” “I was not!” Wei Wuxian yips – yes, it is definitely a yip, mortifyingly enough, and he takes it all back, maybe getting punched would be preferable. But he was not, it wasn’t anything like that. He had just been trying to help. “Yes, you were!” Jiang Cheng just keeps going, undeterred. “And I’m sick of it, so you’ve got no right to make fun of how I confessed to you! You were being a coward!” Wei Wuxian’s mouth opens and closes in speechless outrage before he manages to protest, “It’s not like you said anything either!” “That’s not what this is about! We’re talking about you and you making decisions for me! Stupid decisions!”

WIP Word Search
Thank you @iamwestiec for the tag!! This is so fun!
My words were
Shake | Wonder | Four | Over | Beat
Shake
“I’m Luo Qingyang,” said Mianmian, sticking her hand out for Wen Qing to shake. Their eyes met over their joined hands, and Lan Wangji noted that both seemed to take immediate stock of each other. “You must be Wen Qing.”
“Dr. Wen Qing,” she said as she shook Mianmian’s hand. “I cut people open for a living.”
“Dr. Luo Qingyang,” Mianmian replied immediately. “I teach students how to cut people open for a living.”
From the Skin Book AU
Wonder(ed)
The courtyard stretched out before them, just as large as he would have guessed based on the size of the Qiándiàn itself. They walked along the side of it, and Lan Wangji wondered if he was being made to walk this li for some pointed purpose. Perhaps to drive home the wealth and power that the Emperor possessed.
Mostly it was just making Lan Wangji annoyed.
From the Library Historical AU
Four
It was only 11am, but when he’d been taking a shower after his run earlier, he’d distinctly heard Wei Ying puttering in the kitchen before returning to his room and shutting the door. So. Wei Ying was home, he’d been awake at 8am on a Saturday, and now he hadn’t made a single noise in 3 hours. It was probable that Wei Ying had just gone back to bed, but after four months of being roommates, Lan Zhan knew that Wei Ying had trouble falling back asleep.
He was sitting in the living room, enjoying the bright sunshine filtering through the gauzy white curtains, when he heard a crash from Wei Ying’s room.
From my Hurt/Comfort AU
Over
“But what about–” Wei Ying began but then snapped his mouth closed. Lan Wangji looked down at him and saw that he was blushing.
“What about?” he pressed softly, letting his eyes trace over Wei Ying’s handsome features.
Wei Ying took a deep breath and met his eyes. “I mean, we’ve established that I’ve been flirting with you. And that you like that I’m flirting with you. So…what would he do if he found out? About the flirting.”
The Skin Books AU again
(heart)Beat
Wei Ying’s resurrection wasn’t going very well.
When the little Lans (including A-YUAN, fuck) had turned their young faces to the sky, relief flooding them at the recognizable sound of Wangji, Wei Ying had about three heartbeats of joy before panic crashed through him. With that as his fuel, Wei Ying found a donkey and got the fuck out of there.
From the final chapter of carry that weight
Revisiting these was good, it’s kindling something…

WipWed!
Is it Wednesday again?? Here's a snippet of my RBB fic with WWX spending time with a little noodle dragon that he mistakes for a snake...
To his surprise, the little snake was not where he had last left it, curled up on a corner of his loose papers. He looked around the open room carefully—there were not many places an animal of the snake’s size could hide. Wei Ying’s biggest fear was that it had fallen off and injured itself again.
From the corner of his eye, he noticed a glimmer. When he turned to it, he frowned—it was only his bucket of clean water. He limped up to the corner slowly.
He gasped when he looked inside.
The little snake floated there calmly, sending little ripples in the water when it made a lazy circle on the surface.
“What are you doing here?” asked Wei Ying with a laugh.
The little snake undulated, sending it around the bucket in another circle. Wei Ying gently reached inside and picked it up, scolding it gently.

mdzs wip wednesday #5
its been a while! ive been feeling nostalgic for some of my older fics i havent posted, so heres an excerpt from one of them! ive previously posted another wip of it on my blog! enjoy~
.
.
.
When they enter the apartment, Wen Qing is speechless for the first time in her life.
She watches in shock as Wei Ying sets down bags of stuff from two different stores, and starts to unpack them, revealing produce so fresh and good-looking that no food pantry would ever carry.
“This… this is…?”
Lan Zhan brings up the second load of groceries, carrying in paper bags and his shopping bag, and asks her where their pantry is.
“It’s over… there…”
Lan Zhan nods at her and heads in the direction she points in. Wen Qing stares at his back for a while, and an uncharacteristic flush paints her cheeks, before she furrows her brows.
“Who is that?”
Wei Ying shoves vegetables into the fridge and answers, “Oh that’s Lan Zhan! Did you guys meet yet? Lan Zhan, this is Wen Qing!”
Lan Zhan pauses for a moment and looks Wen Qing dead in the eye. “Nice to meet you.”
Wen Qing can only nod back, still apprehensive. Suddenly, she feels a tug on her cardigan and she looks down.
A’Yuan looks back, holding a chocolate egg toy to her face. “Look what baba got me!”
“…?”
“A’Yuan!!! Lan Zhan is not your dad!!! How many times do I gotta tell you that!!!”
A’yuan grips the hem of Wen Qing’s cardigan tighter and complains, “But he is!”
Wen Qing can already feel a headache coming on.
“Wen Qing, catch!”
A packet of something hits her chest before she can react, and she yells at Wei Ying before she inspects it.
It’s a custard filled bread.
Her eyes widened. “You didn’t have to.”
Wei Ying shrugs and crosses his arms behind his head. “Don’t thank me. Lan Zhan paid for it all.”
Her eyes widen even more.
“What!? Why’d you make him do that!?!? Wei Ying, what did you do? Lan Zhan, I’m so sorry, oh my god, this is too much, are you kidding me—“
Wei Ying cackles and Lan Zhan insists it’s fine, him and Wen Qing go back and forth over and over, so many thank you’s and sorry’s exchanged between each other, mostly from Wen Qing.
Panic seems to overtake her the more she glances around, and she bows over and over again, even tries to return some of the stuff to him. But Lan Zhan refuses her anyway, and says it's all for her family.
Tears well in her eyes, and everyone in the room stops in their tracks.
Wen Qing was a proud young woman. Rarely did she ever let her emotions show, and even rarer did she cry. She loved her family and tried to do everything she could to protect and support them, but sometimes it felt to her like it just wasn’t enough.
“Don’t feel bad,” Wei Ying tries to assure her. “Tsk, this is nothing for Lan Zhan. He doesn’t care. Aih, calm down, calm down.”
“Speak for yourself!” She yells through tears. “Wei Ying, you’re so shameless, you don’t care about wasting someone else’s money like this!?”
“It’s not a waste!” He protests. “You need this.”
She sniffs once, then twice. “Fuck you,” is all she can say.
“Shh! Not in front of A’Yuan!”
She rolls her eyes and sighs. “Whatever,” she relents. “But don’t do this again.”
Wei Ying smiles and blinks innocently, but doesn’t say anything.
She glares. “I mean it.”
“Oof, Wen Qing, you hurt me. Come, come, give me a hug!”
Wen Qing leans away from him, but she can’t avoid his hug—his hugs are clingy and entirely unavoidable, and he rocks her around in a somewhat comical manner as she tries to get away. The kitchen is tiny, and there’s not much room to move around, so their legs bang on the lower cabinets.
Lan Zhan only looks on with an unreadable expression.
“Thank you,” she says sincerely when they part.
Wei Ying full-body shivers when hears that. “Don’t be. Really. I’m breaking out in hives hearing you say that.”
Her eye twitches, and she pinches him rudely.
“Ow! Hey!”

Another small snippet of the modern uncle AU:
“I want Jin Ling to come live with you this summer.”
“I’m sorry, what?” Wei Ying pulled the phone away from his face, read the name on the caller ID again, ensured it did say Jiang Cheng, and put the phone back to his ear again. “Jiang Cheng, is that really you? Is this a sign that you’ve been taken hostage? A code for something that you would never normally say? Verify it and say you love me.”
“Fuck off, you asshat.”
“Didi! I’m concerned for your well-being and you treat me this way?”
“I am not your didi.”
Wei Ying sighed and sank onto the window seat. “Are you being serious right now, Jiang Cheng?”
“Yes. Deadly serious.”
“And you’re trusting me with your nephew? With Jiejie-I mean…” He drew in a shaky breath. “With her child?”
“Yes. I fucking just said that! You can see through what he’s doing, do it better, and stop him from screwing up his life. Stop him from becoming.” There was an audible click over the phone as Jiang Cheng cut himself off again, seemingly from his teeth clattering so hard together when he slammed his mouth shut.
“From becoming me.” Wei Ying whispered, finishing the obvious thought.
“Well…yeah.”
The front yard was already cast in deep shadows, the sun nearly completely set. In those spaces, the long dark lines of shadow before night took over everything, the two not-brothers just breathed.
“Of course. Of course he can live with me, Jiang Cheng. I’ll fix up the extra room and he can have his own space and everything. When will you send him here?” His voice ached, the most exquisite glass slicing up his throat. No matter how beautiful it was, no matter how much he wanted to do this for Jiang Cheng, for his jiejie, it still sliced and burned through him.

wangxian wip wednesday
bringing the annoying from bsky over here because i can:
wipwednesday snippet for ch 6 of my wangxian bdsm au in which lwj does the unthinkable(!) and asks wwx to talk. it doesn’t go well.
cw: brief discussion of wwx’s inability to give or revoke consent even in innocuous circumstances and the grimy implications of his contract as a result
"Will you speak to me?" Lan Zhan finally asks, two hours into the drive. His gaze remains firmly on the road ahead of them, but Wei Wuxian is quick to note the way his hands tighten around the steering wheel, knuckles white with pressure. It doesn't feel like a win, knowing he's frustrated Lan Zhan. For once in his life, he's not trying to provoke Lan Zhan. "About what?" "Anything." Wei Wuxian casts around for a topic, baffled that Lan Zhan would ask for such a thing, and comes up with nothing, worse than nothing. His mind teems with thoughts, but they're unfit for conversation. "Why don't you choose?" he asks, once he's pathetically admitted he doesn't know what to talk about. "I'm sure I can dredge up an opinion." "I don't want to force conversation from you." Does Lan Zhan think he's being a gentleman here? "It would be perfectly legal for you to--" He cuts himself off, wincing. This is why he shouldn't be allowed to choose what they talk about. His brain is filled with landmines. There's nothing easy about the silence that slams into place, but before he can gather the shreds of his dignity together and apologize, Lan Zhan speaks. His tone is crisp, clear. "Contrary to what you seem to believe, I am aware of how your contract works." He draws in a breath, sighs. The thick leather of the steering wheel creaks under his grip. His face, never the most expressive, contorts into a subtle mask of disgust. "Abhorrent."

For WIP Wednesday a snippet from the sequel to The Lotus-Wrapped Promise (aka WWX bride school fic)
“Don’t thank me when you don’t mean it, if there is nothing to be gained by subservience.” Madam Yu put down her tea bowl with perfect ladylike grace and then affixed him with a glare worthy of a rampaging Nie. “Do not misunderstand me, Wei Wuxian. It is not my intention to teach you the ways of a gentleman scholar or a high-born lady.” Her lips twisted into a sneer. “You won’t be sent to flatter your way through an imperial harem, or dance attendance to any kings, so I won’t waste your or my time on meaningless pleasantries. You are a cultivator in the jianghu. Our world respects strength above all else, and so it is strength I will teach you.” She picked up her empty tea bowl and arched a pointed brow at him. “There is strength in knowing when to pour, and when to let someone pour for you. And there is strength in knowing when to do this.” She raised her hand and flung the tea bowl down with a cultivator’s full strength, smashing it into untold tiny pieces.

Xiyao, arranged marriage, dragon!LXC... do I need to say more? 😳
🐲💙💛💕
release date: May 19th, written for MDZS RBB 2022
Jin Guangyao’s mind began to race. Not today… nothing could go wrong today! He looked at his father again, and then everything happened all at once.
Jin Zixuan’s face twisted into an unreadable expression. He opened his mouth to speak, but before he could say anything, Jin Guangshan clapped his hands twice, and with a blunt shove against his side, Jin Guangyao was hurled down the long, steep stairwell.
The last glimpse he caught of his father’s impassive face burned itself into Jin Guangyao’s memory, just as what he next opened his eyes to - As he shakily tried to push himself up from the stone floor at the bottom of the steps, there was the figure of a large, bright dragon coiling in the air above him. Claws outstretched, it dived down to grab him.

Modern Cultivation AU Wipwednesday!
Oops I forgot last week that I'm on Tumblr now and that I don't need to take low quality screenshots for wipwed. This is a completely unedited snippet from a modern cultivation fic that I'll eventually publish! This may be heavily edited in the future since it came out of my unhinged nanowrimo writing fugue.
TW some horror imagery?
Lan Zhan spun around, unsheathing Bichen in a single move. Behind them stood a grotesque form, the skin of its face half-rotted into a permanent grin. Its eyes and lips were gone, great chunks of flesh missing as if torn by sharp teeth. Its body was stiff and greying, the clothes on its body dark from dirt. Lan Zhan could not tell if it was originally a man or woman. A jiangshi. It reached out a single straight arm and screeched. Lan Zhan jumped towards it, building spiritual energy up in Bichen. He swung diagonally across its body, his strength enough to split it open shoulder to hip. The jiangshi moved with unnatural speed, jumping backwards to dodge his blow. “Dodge!” Lan Zhan heeded the shout and jumped to the side. A glowing red talisman flew past where he had been standing to hit the jiangshi squarely in the face. Then two other talismans followed, hitting each of the vampire’s arms. Chains of golden energy formed from the three points of contact with the talismans, binding the arms of the jiangshi to its side. The chains linked to the talisman on its forehead jerked its head back and it roared in anger once it could no longer move. The Yiling Laozu ran up beside Lan Zhan, out of breath. “That should hold it for now! Quick, get your suppression started! I can keep it in place for you.” Lan Zhan nodded, sheathing his sword and summoning Wangji. He placed his hands on the familiar wood and strummed the first chords of binding. Blue energy from the notes of his guqin formed and flew towards the corpse.

mdzs wip wednesday #2
working on a teen wangxian fic for fun this week! heres a small snippet from the beginning :-)
working summary: 17 year old lan wangji visits yunmeng on a nighthunt. wei wuxian takes the opportunity to get him to play in lotus pier. it might be a date 🪷☁️
Lan Wangji had to restrain himself from rolling his eyes when he caught sight of those fluttering purple robes and a distinct red hair ribbon. When Wei Wuxian’s bright eyes landed on him from afar, ready to exclaim his name with glee, he denied himself from looking, and quickly turned away.
Maybe, and he’s not sure why he’s even hoping, but Maybe. When Wei Wuxian sees him turn away, he’ll get the picture—which is highly unlikely. He knows that most probably, the boy will only chase after him more, calling his name or trying to get a reaction from him. Lan Wangji doesn’t know why his insides twist with anticipation, and though he wishes it were in cool-headed disdain, he knows it is something else entirely.
“Wangji-xiong~ Wangji-xiong, Wangji-xiong! Remember me?”
As if he could forget.
He cooly snuck a glance to his side. And quickly regretted it. A bright grin greeted him in which he almost had a frightening urge to put out. He looked away.
Distinctly, he heard the sounds of clamor as the other Lan and Jiang disciples began to meet and discuss tonight’s event with each other. The other Jiang disciples were too intimidated by him to greet him casually like their shi-xiong dared to. Jiang Wanyin was also there among them, and he eyed Lan Wangji warily before greeting him in their stead. Lan Wangji pretended like he didn't hear him, and instead snuck another quick glance at Wei Wuxian’s too-bright smiling face directed right at him.
Some of the Lan disciples recognized Wei Wuxian from the Gusu lectures two years ago, and happily greeted him with excited calls of “Wei-gongzi!” “Long time no see!” “Wei-gongzi, it’s been a while!”
Wei Wuxian’s laughter left a hollow ringing in his ears.
Of course, Wei Wuxian got along well with these disciples—he got along well with everyone.
(Well, almost everyone.)
