The owl house really just went "hey, you see these traumatized kids? You see how two of them even show VERY clear signs of ptsd?" and then looked at them and went "anyway, here's even more trauma for them, good luck recovering from this lol"
#the owl house spoilers#the owl house#toh#toh spoilers#THIS IS NOT A NEGATIVE POST BTW#I don't want it to come across this way#but my god. I am.#I don't even know what to say except for holy shit please give these kids some happiness#Luz is literally on the edge and the whole 'this person who I project myself onto should actually never exist!' is really worrying#and Hunter#oh where do I start here.#this whole episode might've just been 'Hunter's deepest trauma and fears: extra deluxe edition'#and I am. so hoping that he gets a happy ending. might just be my own cptsd brain influencing my opinions here but my god#I'd be so upset if he actually dies or won't find any happiness anymore#I don't think they'll do that though. Especially because they already had the chance to do so but brought him back#anyway!!! what an episode huh#I am!! boy I sure do have feelings about this whole thing and I do not know how to articulate them in the slightest!#on one hand I love the fact that the toh crew actually took their time to portray actual trauma in realistic ways#it definitely hit close to home and you could see the amount of care put into it#there's lots of small details that some people might not notice which are really important to me personally#even just the whole 'I think I'm getting better and like who I am! my fears might just be.. all in my head.. surely.'#to 'my fears have actually been justified & it feels like my happiness wont last long without the most terrible thing imaginable happening'#there's more of course#that was a lot to take in which may or may not be because of personal experiences but hoo boy huh#oh yeah also the VA's did a great job at changing their tone for each character#on the other hand. I really miss hooty. and eda. and king. and the silliness. and everyone else ;-;#and I don't mean this in a way of 'No! No serious topics allowed!' because I do like the more serious tone & it's more than reasonable#with the current situation#but hhhhh I just want them to be happy#anyway haha. them using Duolingo was fun huh? sure am glad the episode was about that only and nothing bad ever happened :)

My little sister watches Toh saga
We uh... got through episodes 8-11 so a bit to cover!
Episode 8
Starting off the episode with Hooty. She was already invested.
"I'll never find a way into Amity's heart!" cue Rock face from here
So uh as much as she loves Hooty she still was weird out by him... swallowing King
"What is Hooty eating???" Cuz King was covered in some stuff.
Oh shit this is puberty talk I thought in a panic
Anyways!!! Bug dance was funny. She was re repeating DON'T YOU TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER for a while.
"HOW BIG IS THAT SYRINGE??"
Voice powers had her hyped actually, she was all "What is that?? HE HAS POWERS NOW???" Cute
Onto Eda!!
"I want those cookies." I am not letting you get roofied by a baked good, kid >:(
Oh she was not ready for Owlbeast to attack Dell lemme tell ya.
We got the Archivists part of the Owl Beasts memories and I popped off
She really loved the segment where Eda talked to the Owl Beast.
"I want a plush of it."
"THAT'S SO PRETTY!!!!" in reference to the ending of the dream sequence
SAY HI TO HARPY EDA KID :DDDD
"SHE CAN DO THAT???"
Onto the Lumity segment (y'all were waiting weren't you)
"Stop blushing so much oh my gosh." "They do that a lot trust me."
She was all "ohh nooo" at the reveal of the Tunnel of Love and I was dying inside.
"Amity calm down oh my gosh!" I am in tears rn
she was sooooo hyped at the part where King used his powers again
Little tiny gasp at the Lumity part immediately after
the part where Luz was dancing around asking Amity out she was YELLING
"JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!"
Hooty receives a letter from someone
"KING'S DAD!?!?" no
Episode 9
She has been obsessed with what Belos looks like under the mask ever since we first saw him
"Oh man sure hope Little Rascal doesn't get caught...." "Why?" "... Remember how Belos eat-" "NO I DON'T WANT TO-" (Doing just fine here-)
"That's what he looks like?? ... ew what's the green for??"
I am freaking out right now kid, don't ask me
I paused so much because wow implications when you know the full story are REAL
"What did you think of that conversation (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)" "... Creepy." GIRL SAME
"Is that-" "Dragon Ball Z? Yes" (knows through memes okay?)
"Oh what happened to her??" "She's sick :("
we will now skip over a bunch of stuff nothing too exciting happened here tbh
I am pausing so much during this episode and it's annoying her (YOU WILL UNDERSTAND I PROMISE!!!)
"Lotta projection going on here." "... what?"
Had to explain some stuff about the convo between Hunter and Amity over the Tamagotchi (give her a moment)
"Oh. That's not good." "It really isn't."
Don't mind me just sobbing inside at every Hunter/Flapjack interaction.
Was so so so worried for Owlbert there.
"It's in the key?!?" Yeah uh so here we are :)))))
She was so entranced with the animation and so was I (with internal screaming though)
"SHE CRACKED IT!!!"
"Mushroom Luz."
Was awwing over Flapjack and Hunter at the end (don't mind me just... gonna go over here and AUGHHHHH)
Episode 10
"Who is that?? How is she in the mirror"
"Weird door."
In between is really interesting actually
"IT'S!!! HER!! THE SLUG!!"
Again I found her watching this show at S3E1 at the intro part (all she remembers was Hunter and Vee thank god) so she popped off here.
"She's cute. I like her."
*pause* "Okay so you see that?" *points at Gravesfield logo* "Remember that." "okay..."
"Oh and those two." *points at the the Wittebanes* "Okay I will sheesh 🙄" /lh
She will not
"The basilisks remember? "OH YEAH-"
Not much from her until the rain sequence.
"HOW IS SHE HOLDING HER??" girl don't sweat it, cry with me instead :)
"I feel bad for Camila.' SAME
Episode 11
Honestly not much happened here with her so uhhh....
Biggest take away for her though
"CAT COVEN PERSON!!!" (coven scout)
"King read her diary-"

what made Philip your favorite character? Also, what episode?
I’ve always had a fondness for villains. They tend to have a lot of flair and style, which I tend to admire.
As for Philip specifically, he’s an incredibly complex character (or was before WAD). He believes what he is doing is for the sake of humanity, but there’s also a very personal attachment to his goal. As we all know, he was abandoned by Caleb for a witch in a society that hates them. It’s fascinating to see the depths he descends to in order to believe that his brother didn’t abandon him, that the only person in his life he had still loves him.
This was actually a fear that I had a lot as a child/early teenager. I worried all the time that I’d mess just one more thing up, and it would be the tipping point for the people I loved getting sick of me and finally leaving me behind. As such, it’s really hard to not empathize with him and his struggle. Because of this, his arc is one I could see myself going on if my fear actually happened, albeit to a far lesser extant.
And say what you will about his ideals, but the man is incredibly dedicated and persevered for centuries in what he believed was actual Hell. If nothing else, I can admire that and his intelligence when it comes to inventing.
I also project my gender envy onto him. Lol
My favorite episode? Probably has to be Hollow Mind. It’s really interesting, and I like trying to find/notice the background details that people have pointed out as they appear on screen. The episode also carries a lot of weight by revealing what Philip believes and why he holds so firmly to his convictions. If Evelyn wasn’t an evil sorceress who bewitched his brother, then Caleb abandoned a child to a town he knew believed something horrible.
I enjoy watching the changes from Philip’s earlier behavior to his current as he perfects his skills in charisma and seizes power over the Isles.
As an early “Belos is Philip Wittebane” believer, it was incredibly interesting to see where the differences in Philip and Belos become murkier and overlap.
I find it really interesting that while Philip is in the Mindscape with Luz and Hunter, he behaves in alignment to how he really is: a child who never got over his beliefs in an attempt to cling to the person he cares about.
I think that’s everything. Thank you for asking me! Have a great day, Anon!

I’ve seen this… hot take being thrown around a lot and it’s seriously gotten to me so here’s a post dumping my thoughts about some viewers’ reaction to Willow’s arc this episode (coming from someone who’s kinned her since season one).
First off, her alleged tone-deafness with regards to giving Hunter a photo of him and Flapjack. Some people were really mad at her for that, and it genuinely pissed me off. Sure, it wasn’t what he needed in that moment, but it was done from a place of nothing but kindness and acceptance of him. Willow’s always been an outcast and for the longest time only had Gus as a friend, and when Luz came along, the combined compassion between the two of them helped her to finally find confidence in her abilities and to not doubt her talent like she had for so long. Her go-to response to Hunter isolating himself from the rest of the group was to remind him that he had a support system he could rely on whenever he felt alone. She acknowledges the similarities between them and their struggles with self-esteem in the past, though her way of helping him unintentionally made him sadder. In that moment, how does one respond? Willow immediately panicked because “Oh no, I didn’t want him to upset him even more than he already is” which is a perfectly normal emotional reaction to have (despite some people claiming she was being selfish). Look, when your friend is upset and you don’t know how to help, sometimes you panic. In that moment, she felt helpless. Then, when she realized she was actually drawing more attention to herself, she felt even worse. So she left. She made a mistake, and I don’t think she’s been given the grace she deserves in that moment.
Others have said Willow’s leadership role and the mental turmoil she experienced “came out of nowhere” when it… didn’t. For years she’d been in the background and was rarely given so much as a second glance from her peers. Then Gus, Luz, and eventually Hunter came along and she desperately wanted to ensure they didn’t leave her behind. Amity betrayed her (though not of her own volition, but Willow obviously didn’t know that) because she kept slipping up and messing up her magic, which she clearly internalized because of course something like that would seriously mess a kid up. The moment she became more confident, there were more eyes on her admiring her and asking to befriend her, which can be jarring and overwhelming for someone who initially came from nothing. It’s clear from her past that a natural progression in Willow’s character would be to showcase her struggles with abandonment (manifesting, in this case, with her carrying the burdens of her friends so she could potentially prove herself to be a worthy and strong enough witch to be around). Her breakdown allowed her to finally realize that she doesn’t have to “prove herself” to anyone. She can just be the same Willow she’s always been and no one will think any less of her for it. She doesn’t have to constantly put others first to be their friend.
So… yeah. As someone who projects heavily onto Willow, I just really needed to get this off my chest.

luz for the characterization meme if you'd like!
I would DEFINITELY like.
Okay, here's my entire thing - George Luz is funny, but he's not just funny.
He's obviously an extrovert, very able in social situations, but it's not class clown energy, because it's not thoughtless antics to get attention regardless of circumstance. My man is not putting on a one-man comedy show during the lowest points of the war when that energy wouldn't be appreciated - he's checking in on his friends. He knows Buck needs help after Bill and Joe get hit in Bastogne, and sends Lip to talk to him. He realizes that Lip never knows when to tap out, so in Haguenau he does what he can to make sure he's cozy when he's sick as a dog. The fact that he and Lip - the quietly capable leader with boatloads of empathy - seem to be pretty good friends is indicative, I think.
He's smart - his jokes are clever! And they are also never mean-spirited, and only ever gently at anyone's expense (see: O'Keefe belting out Oklahoma). The exception is the impression that gets Sobel in trouble, but I think we can all agree there's a difference between, say, getting a rank-and-file fellow soldier in hot water for no reason, and playing a pretty innocuous prank on a CO who has power over them and is using it to make all of their lives miserable. He's happy to oblige Lip's request to stop doing the Lt Dike impression because he immediately sees why Lip is right - there reaches a point when harmless joking at the expense of a CO, even if there's all the truth in the world to it, can be bad for morale in a combat situation. Being able to accept feedback and modify his behaviour without getting defensive - see also a certain punch in the mouth - is pretty key, imo.
I lean on episode 8 George a lot. We see him pitching in to help out on tasks that surely cannot be his job as a radio technician. He's as helpful as he can be to the new Lieutenant, and doesn't give him or Web shit even though everyone else is making them take their lumps as the new guy or the guy who skipped Bastogne. If you watch George any time he appears in the background or for a one-off line, he seems to be friendly with everyone. He's not giving the replacements shit. He's always where he's supposed to be when he's needed, the officers obviously know that he can be relied upon, and I think the fact that he's a radio technician in the first place is an indication of some level of competence. I often see him depicted in fic as a hot mess express who doesn't know when not to play to the crowds, and that, to me, just doesn't jive with what we know about him from canon.
As a personal preference, I like to write George with a lot of empathy for other people, but with a hard time connecting to his own emotions, and an even worse time communicating them. I use humour as a coping mechanism - you know that meme, "I'm not okay, but at least I'm funny"? - and I fully project that onto George.
In relationships - platonic and romantic - I think he's a good support system for the other person, but not so great at expressing when he needs a support system himself. People make the mistake of assuming that everything is always fine, because he's great at making it look that way. He's so good at compartmentalizing that sometimes even he's convinced that everything is fine. It can lead to a partner feeling like he's not taking something as seriously as they are, or feeling something as deeply as they are, because he is so not used to giving voice to it when it something's wrong.
On the brighter side, I'm also convinced he's an acts-of-service guy who shows his affection in concrete terms to the people he cares about. He would be great at jollying a person out of a bad mood. And you could bring him anywhere and he'd make friends with everyone in the room - I get the sense this man has talked himself out of so many speeding tickets just by being an absolute peach.
I'm sorry or you're welcome for the novel!
@georgelust as promised!

Summery: Wanting to help Luz, reader joins Eda and Amity to get Titan blood. But what happens when they crash into their best friend?
tw: Spoilers for season 2 episode 9.
wc: 3.8k
Chapter Nine
Master List | Chapter One
Tumblr media
“Does this look fine to you?” I heard Amity whisper shout. Looking up from a very sick Luz, I saw Amity and Eda peeking in.
“Whoah, it’s like I have snakes for arms,” Luz said, wiggling her arms in the air with socks covering them.
Currently Luz has the common cold, but since she’s human…it affects her differently. The whole gang was here, each with different tasks. I was tasked with watching Luz so she doesn’t hurt herself, while Amity had a mini abomination holding a box of tissues for her.
“Please,” I heard Eda reply. “She just has a common cold. It’s harmless.”
“But she’s a human,” Amity countered. “We have no idea how it’ll affect her.”
Luz suddenly sat up, “If I ate the portal key, would I return to the human realm?” She opened her mouth and held up the key and I quickly snatched it out of her hand before she could do something that foolish.
“I’ll hold onto this for her,” Amity said to me, having her little abomination grab the key and give it to her. Putting the key around her neck she spoke to Luz, “I’m not giving this back until you’re better, okay?”
Luz whined and took out her tamagotchi she shared with Amity, typing something in. Amity looked confused before smiling and said, “Oh…uh you got it!” Then she closed the door.
Luz looked at me with a frown, “What did she get?”
I smiled and patted her head, “She got your message.”
She fell onto her back and stared at her ceiling. Then she slowly turned her head towards me and I felt nervous.
“I want to see the creature of knowledge,” Luz said mysteriously, but I knew what she meant. I crawled over to the echo mouse’s cage and carefully lifted out and set it on the little side table Luz had. I glanced at her and she nodded her head feverishly. I then pet the echo mouse's head. Luz hurriedly sat on her hands and knees and screamed out and the mouse started to project.
“M-mouse!” She exclaimed pointing at it. “Uh. Philip diary entry!”
The mouse then started to project just that. Everyone entered the room as we all watched Philip talk about how he found Titans blood. Then an image of a map appeared as he spoke about finding the blood in Eclipse Lake. Once it finished I turned and saw that Luz had replicated the map.
Shaking her head she exclaimed, “I have to go to Eclipse Lake!” She darted up and I tried to grab her before she barreled into everyone. Eda managed to grab her legs as Willow held her shoulders.
“Luz, no,” Willow said sternly. “You’re not well.”
“She is shockingly strong,” Gus points out.
We all collectively pad and tie Luz down as she glares weakly up at us.
“All right Luz,” Eda speaks up. “Me and Kind will get your Titan blood if you just calm down.”
“Yes!” King exclaimed. “Perfect chance to take our new powers for a test drive.”
“You guys are the best,” Luz replied, finally calming down.
“I volunteer as well,” Amity said, raising her hand and following them out. “As Luz’s girlfriend I must-”
“I get it, boots,” Eda said with a smile. “Just grab a coat, you too bolt.”
I looked at the other two and they just looked at me. I realized she meant me and quickly scrambled after them.
“Willow, Goops, watch over Luz,” Eda said, pointing towards them. “She thinks she has snakes for arms.”
Looking back at Luz she somehow managed to wiggle her way out of her restraints and was once again wiggling her arms.
On our way to the knee of the Titan I couldn’t help but ask Eda, “Why bolt?”
Glancing back at me she smiled, “Because you were our getaway on our last mission together.”
I decided not to mention how we didn’t exactly need to bolt out of that situation. When we got to the knee, there were coven scouts everywhere, and I know the others noticed as well. We decided to take a back path as we followed Luz’s map.
“This place is crawling with tools,” King pointed out. “What gives?”
“Titan blood is the most powerful source of magic on the Isles,” Eda explained. “I’m not surprised Belos wants it too.”
“Well we can’t afford to mess this up,” Amity said sternly looking back at us. “Luz is counting on me.” Amity shouldn’t put so much weight on herself, it's not like Luz would hate her if we did make a mistake. “I mean us,” Amity quickly corrected as she saw us frown.
Suddenly a scout fell in front of us and we all stood in defense.
“A coven scout!” Amity exclaimed, holding a flame towards them.
“Uh yes!” The scout said, standing up nervously. “I am but a humble scout and I surrender.” I blinked, immediately recognizing that voice, and I tried not to let a smile slip. I honestly didn’t expect to see him here.
“Well,” King said, putting his hands on his hips. “That was easy.”
“Not so fast, King,” Eda said. “Don’t you recognize that annoying voice?”
The scout, or should I say Hunter, slouched and said, “Why does everyone say that?” Then he tried to sprint away.
“Don’t let him get away!” Eda shouted. I decided to step up and summoned a snake demon to wrap him up before he got away. But I made sure the beast didn’t hurt him. “This is none other than Belos’ right hand man,” Eda said as we stood around him.
“The Golden Guard?” Amity exclaimed in surprise. “He is a…lot scrawnier than I imagined.” I frowned as they insulted him, and he glared back at us.
Amity took over the job of keeping Hunter bound as it made more sense. I mean having a giant snake slithering around would be a dead give away. So she bound his arms to his torso with her abomination goop. We then walked over to the side of the Titan knee and Eda came up with a ‘plan’. Apparently she thought that if she ran full force into the bone she’d go ‘harpy mode’. Instead she (surprisingly) broke through the bone shouting ‘hoot’ and…didn’t not go harpy mode.
Following King and Eda in, Hunter spoke up, “You can put down your staff. I won’t run.”
“Too bad,” Amity said, glaring. “Because I don’t trust you.”
I put a hand on her shoulder and shook my head in amusement, “Trust me.” I looked over to Hunter who…definitely was listening, but pretended to be looking around the cave. “He won’t run, or I’ll show him what for.”
“Ancient witches used to mine the veins for Titans blood,” Hunter said.
“They’re not paying attention,” I replied, ruffling his hair lightly. He glared at me weakly, obviously not able to fix his hair. Amity looked at us skeptically so I decided to stop messing with him.
“Go on fire it!” Eda whispered excitedly, which caught our attention. “Maybe the adrenaline will kick in and, bam, harpy Eda! Sounds perfectly safe.”
King aimed a drill towards Eda and fired it up.
“Wait!” Hunter shouted. “Don’t!”
Suddenly the beam of light missed Eda and hit the vein below her. The beam ricocheted around and Hunter stood in front of me protectively. Which I honestly found dumb as seeing it should be the other way around. He’s literally tied up when I have my staff. But the beam went right in Amity’s direction and she stopped it with a ball of abomination goo. She looked over at Hunter and I suspiciously once more and I tried to ignore it.
“This isn’t a normal cave!” Hunter exclaimed. “These walls are made from the veins of the Titan. Any magic you shoot will just bounce right back at you.”
“Oh you must be fun at parties,” Eda teased. “Hey King! How about you use your powers to echolocate the lake.”
“Okay,” King agreed. Hopping down to the front of the mineshaft. He let out a powerful ‘weh’ and we waited to hear it bounce back. It didn’t.
“Those two are definitely gonna get us caught,” Hunter said, slouching.
“Us?” Amity said incredulously. “There is no ‘us’. Now keep walking.”
Hunter glanced at me and I shrugged. We all started walking further in. I heard a familiar chirp and glanced back…only to see little rascal. We were halfway across a bridge when Eda started talking again.
“You know, Luz told me about a trip to Latissa where she met someone very interesting,” Eda said with a mischievous smile. Hunter glanced at me and I shrugged. “A beat up blonde with no magical powers. She called him, and these are her words, “A bad but sad boy”.”
I tried to hide the laughter that bubbled up my throat as Hunter blushed slightly. But I honestly sounded like a strangled goose.
“If I ever see that human again-” Hunter glared, before getting cut off.
“Watch it,” Amity said glaring at him threateningly.
“Well at least I’m not delusional enough to think I can turn into a harpy,” Hunter said defensively.
Eda literally turned around to hiss at him, and King decided to try and stop the fighting, “Hey, come on. Give it a rest you two.”
“Yeah,” Hunter agreed. “Listen to your rat.”
King attacked Hunter by pulling his hair while shouting. I decided that that was too far and tried to remove King from Hunter’s hair as gently as I could.
“Shh,” Amity hushed and we looked up in alarm. We hid behind some old machinery as we watched coven scouts enter the area.
“Why are we stopping?” The familiar annoying voice of Kikimora sounded. “Is it the Golden Guard?” She…has definitely seen better days.
“No ma'am,” The captain replied in a serious tone. “This is a dangerous area. We need to move carefully.”
“Careful takes too long!” Kikimora exclaimed. “My butt is on the line, and so help me, Titan, if you ruin this!” Kikimora continued on with her rant as we looked on in concern.
“That poor girl is going through something,” Eda pipped up.
“She’s also blocking the path to Eclipse Lake,” Amity said looking down at the map.
“We should create a distraction,” Hunter spoke up…like he was a part of our team. Which he was…as a hostage.
“We should create a distraction!” Eda exclaimed, standing up and hopping down. “You kids wait for my signal.”
“Ha,” Hunter laughed, moving to sit down. “That was easy. When they’re caught, us three can take the Titan blood for ourselves.”
“Stop talking like we’re a team,” Amity seethed.
“We might as well be,” Hunter shrugged. “The Owl Lady and her pet have nothing at stake, unlike us.”
“You have no idea what you’re talk-” Amity was cut off by her tamagotchi beeping. “I was gonna say, you have no-” It went off again and Amity turned around to check it.
I sat next to Hunter and decided to tease him, “What do I have at stake?”
He looked at me and realized he hit a blunder, “I…uh well…you, you’re my friend so you’re different.”
“Awww thanks blondie,” I cooed quietly and pinched his cheek.
“Ow, hey quit that,” Hunter said, his cheeks burning. Deciding to get away from my teasing, Hunter peaked over Amity’s shoulder, “Oof, that doesn’t look good.”
“Stay back!” Amity shouted defensively and Hunter backed up. “But what doesn’t look good?”
“Seems clear to me,” He replied looking down. “Come back with results or else…you can figure out the rest.”
“No,” Amity replied, glaring. “Luz wouldn’t make that kind of threat. I’m an awesome girlfriend.”
“Has she told you that?” Hunter questioned and that was definitely going too far. “We have a lot in common, Blight. We’re both trying to show what we can bring to the table. And we can’t fail, because there’s nothing worse than disappointing someone who thinks you’re special.”
Amity looked down, clearly anxious and I decided to put a stop to this. I jabbed Hunter in the ribs hard with a glare.
“Ow!” He exclaimed. “What was that for?”
“Amity, don't listen to him,” I said softly. “You were right, Luz wouldn’t send something like that. Besides, she’s been strongly affected by her cold, remember? For all we know it's just gibberish.”
Amity looked up at me and nodded shakily, “Y-yeah, you’re right.” But I frowned. The seed of doubt has already been placed in her mind. I turned to glare at Hunter once more and he slightly shrunk down.
We all were alerted when Kikimora shot one of her fire bolts and the magic began to ricochet. We ran for the entrance to Eclipse Lake, Eda and King joined us shortly after.
“Why didn’t you wait for our signal?” Eda complained.
“We don’t have time to play around,” Amity said sternly. “We are getting that Titan blood.” I saw Amity’s Tamagotchi fall and picked up and tried to catch back up with the others. I noticed little rascal fly next to me and I offered him my shoulder to perch on, which he did gratefully. When I did catch up to them, rascal tried to rest on Hunter but Hunter shook him off. I frowned as rascal flew back towards me, chirping sadly.
“Don’t worry little guy,” I said with a smile. “He’ll warm up eventually.”
We all slowed down as we walked into a new room. It looked to be dripping with hardened Titans blood. But this seemed a little too good to be true. I mean there was so much.
“Is this Titan blood?” King asked out.
“But Eclipse Lake is farther ahead,” Amity replied confused.
“Who cares?” King shouted, dropping off Eda’s shoulder. “We did it!”
“Stop!” Hunter shouted, looking seriously scared. “That’s fools blood. Don’t touch it.”
“Oh, so you can keep it all for yourself?” Eda scoffed. “Hard pass.” She swung her staff down into the fools blood, causing the ground to crack open.
“Eda!” I shouted, quickly running to the hole in the ground.
“Wait!” Hunter shouted. I stopped and looked at him, but the dread of hearing Eda and Kings’ screams didn’t settle well in my stomach. “Take me with you!”
Amity and I look back hearing Kikimora taunt the Golden Guard.
“At least untie me so I can escape!” Hunter shouted, and I knew what this meant. “Please, I don’t want to be replaced.” My heart hurt at the desperation in his words, and Amity seemed to as well as she let him go.
“Where will you go now?” Amity asked, looking down the hole.
“Now…” He trailed off, rolling his wrists. Then he swept her off her feet and looked at me for a second before darting towards the minecart. “...I get to Eclipse Lake before anyone. Byeee.”
“That jerk!” Amity exclaimed.
“Go get Eda and King,” I instructed, already hopping on my staff to fly after Hunter. I took after him without a second thought. I went as fast as I could. No matter how much I care about Hunter, I can’t let something so dangerous get into Belo’s hands. Him talking about being replaced didn’t settle well in my stomach.
When I got to Eclipse Lake, Hunter was turned towards the lake. I looked out further and noticed that the lake was barren. I landed behind Hunter and placed a hand on his shoulder. Looking at his expression, it was a mix of dread, shock, and fear.
“I’m dead,” He said, breaking the silence. “This is it, I’m officially done.” He let out a laugh that sounded slightly crazed and I felt concerned.
“Hunter?” I asked, hoping he’d snap out of it. “Calm down.”
“I am calm (y/n),” Hunter said, turning and smiling crazily at me. “Can’t get any calmer than dead.”
I wasn’t exactly sure how to handle this scenario as Hunter crawled down into the dried lake. Once he got to the middle he fell to his knees and began to dig.
“Wh-what are you doing?” I asked out in concern. Following him into the lake.
“Digging my grave,” Hunter laughed again, truly unhinged. He looked back at me and stared at me dead seriously, “Do you want one too? I can dig you one.” I blinked and my frown deeped.
Trying to lighten the mood, I nudged his shoulder with my own, “How romantic.” His ears tinged pink as he looked back down, starting to dig again.
“I failed Emperor Belos,” Hunter started. “And…and I failed you too.”
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, “When…”
“When I stopped seeing you, and just today when I…hurt your friend's feelings about the human,” He explained, looking at me with regretful eyes.
“Hunter I already forgave you for the first one,” I sighed, ruffling his hair. “And…well yeah you definitely manipulated Amity…but I think it's because you’re projecting the way you’re being manipulated.” I placed my hands on his cheeks, turning him away from the hole he made, “Everyone makes mistakes Hunter, and you are no less a person because of them.”
He didn't meet my eyes as I said that, but I could tell that he was mulling over my words. I let him go as he turned back towards his ‘grave’, digging anyway. I let out a sigh, and heard Amity and King come down into the lake.
“Don’t worry,” Hunter spoke out, not even turning back. “I won’t pick a fight. There’s no Titan blood.”
“Then why are you digging?” Amity asked, confused.
“Oh, it’s simple really,” Hunter turned around to face Amity, radiating fake cheeriness. “Belos need Titan blood to make a new portal key. Can’t get to the human world without it!” Then he turned back towards the small hole he’s accumulated. I noticed Amity clutching the portal key and I felt my hand twitch. Don’t be so obvious, we need that to not fall to Belos and Hunter is not in a good state of mind. “Since I failed my last mission,” Hunter continued digging. “I thought, “Hey, a chance to make up for it”. But I can’t go back empty handed!” Hunter laughed hysterically, “Not again.”
“Long story short,” Hunter said, hovering over the hole pointing at it. “This is ma grave. Want me to make you one too? I have to make (y/n)’s first so it’ll take some time…”
“This is really bumming me out,” King spoke up.
“That’s just life, rat,” Hunter said matter of factly. “Everyone has a use, and if you don’t…” He blew a short raspberry. “Buh bye. Your friend gets it.”
“What’s he talking about?” King asked, looking towards Amity who looked like she was going to cry. Amity explained. I quickly rushed and gave Amity her Tamadotchi back. She showed King what she was talking about and King turned the device to its side, showing the true meaning of the texts.
“Of course,” Amity said, smiling brightly, getting her spirit back. “This is Luz we’re talking about.”
“I told you so,” I said, bumping into Amity’s side lightly.
“Hey!” Hunter shouted. Looking over, there was rascal pulling at Hunter’s cape. It would be cute if it weren’t for the context. “Go find a better witch to be with.” Laying down, Hunter put some dirt over his head and rascal settled on his back. Amity and I went to crouch on both sides of him.
“You know, you were right,” Amity spoke up, trying to make him feel better. “We do have a lot in common. I grew up thinking that everything was an opportunity to justify existing, but there are people out there who won’t make you feel worthless.” Hunter lifted his head and turned it towards me slightly, and I smiled as warmly as I could. Amity finished, “You just have to meet them.”
Amity offered her hand towards Hunter and he slowly looked up at her. I did as well and I saw the key around her neck on full display.
“H-hunter,” I said anxiously. But it was too late as he lunged to take the key. Amity rolled towards me as I raised my staff, stepping in front of her. “I don’t want to fight you!” I shouted in a frustrated tone. Amity made an offhand comment behind me, but I was more focused on the blonde boy in front of me blocking King's power with rascal.
“Then don’t!” Hunter shouted back, trying to get used to his new power. “These staffs are weird.”
Amity used her goo to bind Hunter like earlier, but he was still teleporting about. He managed to teleport out of it and shoot a bunch of fire beams that ended up richoating everywhere. Amity mounted her staff, having King and I follow as she dodged the beams. She landed and blocked one that was aimed at us with her goo. I noticed Hunter teleport behind her and tackled him to the ground, but he teleported away once more. He kept rapid fire attacking Amity and I decided this was the best time for me to summon a beast. I didn’t notice that Amity had the upper hand and flew towards me with King already on her staff. Looking up, she grabbed my coat and I fell on her staff, before we were launched off of it from a magic hand hitting us from below.
Hunter teleported to Amity as she landed gracefully, me not so much, “If you really want to help me, then give me that key!” Hunter used his staff to break the rope of the key from around Amity’s neck, but she quickly grabbed it from the air. They stood at a stalemate as Amity held a blade to Hunter, and he held his staff towards her.
“Listen,” Hunter panted out. “You’re strong, and I’m tired. If this continues you’ll probably escape, but here’s the thing: We know where to find you…and your human. So just hand over the key.” I stood up and made my way towards them.
“Amity don’t!” I shouted, calling for Cinder.
“Fine,” Amity conceded. “Just stay away from Luz.”
“Appreciate it,” Hunter said, walking towards me, before looking back at Amity. “I, uh, mean that too.” He looked back at me for a second, hurt slightly crossing his features before flying off.
“Ha-ha! Yes!” Eda exclaimed, flying in. Whoah! She really is a harpy now! What in Titan did I miss? “I heard fighting. I’m ready to go. Where’s the nerd?” She looked around, seeing our…sad sight. “Oh. Dang it.”
We returned back to the Owl House in silence. Then we came across another problem. How to get harpy Eda inside.
“I got into harpy mode and now I can’t get out,” Eda explained to the others.
“She also ate, like, nine voles on the way home,” King complained.
“Hey, I had to keep my end of the bargain,” Eda retaliated. We managed to get her through the door before Luz tackled Amity. I watched as they had a mushy interaction and couldn’t help but feel bad. The look of hurt Hunter that crossed Hunter’s face before he left…

The Owl House-Thanks to Them Recap
Tumblr media
Luz and the witches struggle to adapt to the human realm while dark forces gather. Also Camila is MVP of cartoon moms. Spoilers below.
Well, this was fantastic. There was some fear as to see if the shortened season would hurt it. Answer, not yet. Now The Owl House was always a lean show, even its most fillery episodes contained some plot momentum, so the shortened time doesn’t seem to be affecting them as much as it did star vs or steven universe.
So we began right where we left off. I’m a little surprised at this as I thought we would get a time skip, but we do get to see mother and daughter reunite. So that’s nice. We do get a montage of the kids hanging out on Earth. Including Luz coming out to her mom in a sweet video and some nice lumity moments. I know everyone is talking about this as an abridged season and it’s hard not to, but this does work on its own. If you didn’t know about the cancellation, it works as a good montage. The whole episode is like this. The pacing of the whole episode is perfect. I’d rather celebrate what we have than mourn what might have been if that makes sense.
Luz is not dealing well with school, with the painful reminders of her past, that look the art teacher gives man, and Luz projecting onto a character in a class book, egg is still egg, and she’s the only one who can’t do magic. We do get some foreshadowing with Luz's pailsmen, which the egg is placed next to some snake skin.
Camila is the real MVP of this episode. She’s trying to research on how best to raise nonhuman kids and she's down to find them blood. She’s even reading into gender nonbinary; I do wonder if it’s for the gender nonconforming Luz or the shapeshifting Vee. We also learn that she was a god damn trekkie. That’s so cute. What’s not so cute, Camila too was bullied as a teen and was pressured into sending Luz to the camp. It was so heartbreaking to watch Camila just get beaten down by society.
And we get to see the goth teen again. Who it turns out is non binary. Good for them. And they reveal the Whitbane brothers backstory. It’s what the fandom assumed, Caleb dating a witch, Philip kills him, but it’s nice to see it confirmed. It is weird that they don’t notice how different Luz is. Did Luz keep up with Vee’s friends when he took her life back? I think this is the only part I felt the loss of a full season. We do get to see them hang out with Vee in credits so that’s something.
Hunter is living his best life free of Belos, getting into wolves and the star trek knock off. So naturally he gets processed by Belos. They discover a bit of Titans blood, which makes Luz’s glyphs work again. The whole graveyard fight is wonderfully done. Both actionwise and thematic wise. And they went full smooth for the fight.  Vee, you would think would be super helpful here but Willow pushes her to the side after Belos nearly punches her.
Hunter takes back control and drowns himself, but Belos just slimes out of him and opens the portal. An injured flapjack gives his life to save Hunter. God, listening to everyone talk about if the hospital could even help Hunter gave me chills. Hunter lives with a renewed view of his identity. He tells Luz she’s not to blame, Belos tricks people, that's what he does. Camila declares that she’ll go with the gang to the demon realm, helping to save Luz’s relationship with the people she loves.
Willow acts like she’ll be back, Vee stays behind which is a little sad but a) she has trauma associated with the Boiling Isles and b) the writers have enough characters to juggle for the finale two specials.
This was a fantastic episode and kudos to the crew making some damn fine lemonade from some sour lemons. 4/4

Crawling out of the grave because this shit has been keeping me up at night and I need to talk about it, if this is Incomprehensible, I apologize.
FOR THE FUTURE SPOILERS
This is your only warning lmao

-
-
Ok so, during the title sequence of the episode we see luz in the weird middle dimension again, like the one in the episode where they try to make a off brand portal, and if I remember correctly king has also been here. So let me go on and saw what we’re all thinking,
What the fuck is that
At first I thought it was another collector, seeing as this scene is reminiscent of when king woke up in this place and saw the collector for the first time. But I ruled that out after I managed to get a closer look
Whatever that is it surely does not move like the collector did when they were trapped, in fact if you watch closely, it looks like either a human, or a witch.
Onto my theory (before you ask, yes, my back DOES hurt from reaching so hard)
I think the thing in the middle of the two realms is actually Caleb.
I know I sound crazy but hear me out, throughout it the entire show, specific colors have been associated with different things. (Aka the coven system) What color have we been associating with the emperor’s coven? Yellow. What color is our mysterious blob? Yellow. What Character do we know and love whose main motif thus far is yellow? Hunter, and hunter is a grim walker created from Caleb. I’m fully aware my evidence is shoddy but continue hearing me out guys. We see Caleb in this episode, and contextually we can assume he’s a figment of Belos’ psyche. But what if he wasn’t. When belos talked to Guilt projection Caleb, He said he was trying to “save his soul”. What if that wasn’t referencing Belos killing his brother, but rather putting him away for later. Using belos’ twisted logic, genociding the boiling isles was the “right thing” to do. Caleb, (assuming the legend is true) being with a witch damned his soul to hell, but if Caleb, let’s say, happened to inhabit a newer version of his body whilst he & Belos destroyed the witches, it would cancel out. And Caleb would be “saved”
TL;DR : Our blob friend is Caleb, Whom belos trapped upon his “death” so that when the time comes he(Caleb) can use a grimwalker as his body and be “saved” from damnation

My thoughts after watching The Owl House for the first time! 😊 (muchos spoilers!!!)
(I watched with some good friends who had already seen it; they had strong opinions but were also determined not to spoil me.)
We yelled at the screen a LOT. The most common cries were, "It's The Fascism."/"Do you think maybe it could be the fascism?"/"yeah because you're a fucking FASCIST!" we also yelled at Lilith for her poor decision-making skills very frequently. Like, "yeah, you did this!! This is entirely your fault!!!!" Oh, and at Luz for not thinking things through, though we accepted it's a part of who she is.
I LOVE Willow soooo much!! She is so cool and fun and has great outfits; I would like to cosplay her! I started doing her little part with her during the theme sequence in s2. When they revealed her interest in derby, I was like, "she's SUCH a lesbian."
Probably the least satisfying arc to me was how quickly Eda and Lilith reconciled with their mother, but I'm 100% willing to admit that's probably bc I'm projecting my own Issues onto the situation.
My best friend couldn't help but express sympathy for Hunter and Darius the whole time, which led to a few arguments during our watch 😂 they kept saying, "he's a GOOD BOY!" about Hunter, and making excuses for Darius, and I was like, "yeah but he (Darius) could've not been a dick about it, though." But I did agree that Hunter was doing pretty well considering how abused and conditioned he was. We compared him to Lilith, who ended up in a much worse place, after being raised in a much better environment.
Obviously the Belos/Philip/Hunter/Caleb stuff is super compelling!!! My heart was breaking when Hunter ran into the woods at the end of Hollow Mind, both because of his emotional distress and because, "oh my god, he needs to get out of the open, where is he going, he is going to get himself killed." I don't remember when I first suspected Belos' true identity, but I was pretty sure by the middle of the time travel episode. The foreshadowing and reveal were masterfully done, especially with Luz clinging to the hope that Philip could help her get home.
Gus is literally the most powerful illusionist there is??? Also he's like a tiny bit unhinged, but what can you do. 🤷🏻‍♀️ My friend pointed out that all the copies he makes of himself seem to have some degree of sentience, and express fear, specifically fear of death/not existing, and thus, fear of Gus himself. Which is likely not something he's specifically doing on purpose? So that's interesting. But also he's Baby!!! Someone give him a hug!!!!! He just wants to do a good job and be accepted and appreciated!
KING!!! 🥺💕 His arc in s2 was also heartbreaking, oh my god. The episode where we saw his castle was probably the closest I got to crying during the whole show. He is also Baby.
I don't have a lot to say about Eda? Not in a bad way, though, I think I just don't relate to her much. I did really appreciate her curse as rep for people who are chronically ill and/or have to take maintenance meds just to exist every day. I'm not sure I've ever seen that treated so naturally onscreen before. wrt meds specifically, it's usually either a joke to show the character is "weak", or a Big Fucking Deal that is portrayed somewhat tragically. Obvs the curse is tragic, but Eda using the resources at her disposal to manage it isn't.
Similarly, I don't have much to say about Amity. You would think I'd relate to her more, with us both having emotionally abusive mothers, but I think her being a rich mean girl overrides that 😅 No hate, though!! I like that she's gay and a huge nerd, and that she puts up a front of being together but she's still very much Just A Kid.
Luz just being Latina and occasionally even speaking Spanish is so 🥰💕🥰💕🥰 Also no one mispronounces her name the whole show?! So nice. I am curious what her ethnicity is. I assume the creators have one in mind, but if it's hinted at in the show, I didn't notice. Though I get the feeling she isn't Mexican-American. (that's what I am) (One small downside is that I've always liked the name Luz, but I fear it will now forever be a "fandom name" in my brain 😅)
I've seen fan speculation about Hunter's clothing hiding a lot of scars, specifically his gloves. Which makes sense, but I had the thought that he could have some homunculus- or even automaton-looking shit going on under there, before I remembered that's something he probably would've noticed about his own body. Could still make for a cool AU, though!
I LOVE Kikimora! She's chaotic and kind of dumb and ADORABLE, what else can we ask of anyone?
I'm probably forgetting a lot of things. I kind of already want to rewatch it! But my attention span for this post is waning, so I'll wrap things up.
Despite the circumstances, I am very happy the kids all ended up in the human realm together!! I'm excited to see the witchlings be out of their element in our world, as that is my exact favorite flavor of hijinks! Also I'm so glad they're together and we get to see them be friends; it's refreshing what a loving and drama-free squad they are. Y'know, once they decide they're not mortal enemies, lol 😅

About LO's take on racism in TOH fandom (pardon this subject is getting repetitive, I just wanted to give my own two cents about it while it's being talked about)... Is it just me or does LO have a very big tendency to project certain aspects of the fandom of any given piece of media onto the content itself? Let me try to clarify my point here;
Although I have noticed this with nearly every show LO talks about, I'll mostly keep my arguments to the Owl House situation for the sake of simplicity. So.
I will not deny that TOH fandom (and every fandom I have ever come across, really) has both a white favoritism and a racism problem. From some artists whitewashing the POC characters to people being a bit too quick to praise, defend, and demand redemptions for the white characters while rarely extending the same treatment to the non-white characters (I say that because I have witnessed multiple people single out every single POC character in the show BY NAME and say they are badly written), racism - both committed intentionally and on accident - has always been rampant in fandom in general.
The reason for this, as you have already said in previous asks, is that racism is a structural problem that is deeply ingrained in our society. And yet LO seems to be incapable (or most likely simply unwilling) to recognize that fact, and instead chooses to blame this problem directly on the show itself - most notably on Dana Terrace herself. So something that is an issue across the whole fandom is suddenly the fault of a single person who... Wrote Hunter in too many episodes, apparently.
I have seen people of color criticize The Owl House for having a white favoritism problem. And I do agree on that aspect (and even if I didn't, I don't believe I am in any position to do so, seeing as it despite what people on the USA might label me for my nationality, I am in fact white). The complaints about some of the non-white characters - notably Willow and Gus - being somewhat sidelined for the sake of either the plot or another characters' storylines are also a valid criticism. While I do not think this was intentional on the part of the writers, it's still an issue, and I won't argue against that.
The thing about it is, whenever LO complains about this problem, she herself sidelines the POC character's development and story lines in favor of spending more time ranting about Hunter's existence and how the writers (and Dana Terrace) are solely to blame for the fandom doing the exact same thing as she is doing.
Because as much as we all wish that we had more time to explore Willow, Gus, Darius, Raine and more of the cast in more detail, the fact of the matter is that their own stories are being ignored... By the same people arguing that their characters are being ignored.
Let me give some examples. When Through The Looking Glass Ruins came out, admittedly a big part of the fandom focused solely on the Lumity parts of the episode. LO, in turn, blamed Dana Terrace for letting Lumity overshadow Gus's story... When the Lumity bits were a B plot that only took a little bit more than a third of the episode, with the main story being dedicated to Gus's adventure in the graveyard and his newfound tentative friendship with Mattholomule. In all this time, I have never ONCE seen LO make even a single comment about Gus's story in his own damn episode, and instead she just rants about DT letting Luz and Amity overshadow him when this was never a problem of the episode itself, but of the fandom.
The same thing happened with both Any Sport in a Storm and Labyrinth Runners, which are both dedicated to developing Willow and Gus (respectively) alongside Hunter, and establishing a positive relationship between them. Willow and Gus are major characters in these episodes, with some light being shed in both of their inner conflicts and them having some compelling development in those episodes. But because one of the characters who's also the focus of the episodes is Hunter, she once again spends a huge amount of time complaining about his presence and how he overshadows Gus and Willow and forgets to... Talk... About... Gus and Willow.
Also I have seen her claim once again that Lumity overshadows Willow in ASiaS when again, it's a B plot that barely had half the time that it did in TtLGR? I don't know...
I do recognize that Willow and Gus deserved more focus, stories and episodes centered on them, but I also believe that it is not fair to place the blame of the actions of the fandom solely on DT's shoulders, especially considering the circumstances of the shortened third season and the absolutely petty meddling of the higher ups (if you've seen that one video that Alex Hirsch posted reading the S&P department's complaints you have a fraction of an idea of the bullshit these producers go through to get their ideas to even be accepted).
Does the Owl House have some white favoritism regarding Amity, Eda, Lilith and Hunter having a lot more screentime than most of the POC characters? I do believe so, but the fandom should also be held accountable for doing the exact same thing, and LO should also be held accountable for that and for pushing all of the blame onto someone that only should hold some.
I apologize for the absolutely massive rant here, I hope my points were coherent enough--
you were perfectly coherent, anon, and i feel like i have very little to add. to summarize: -racism is a systemic problem that it's not going to be fixed easily and it's absolutely present on fandom. -LO blames the creator of the show for things outside of her control. -LO much prefers to rant about hunter (even when talking about episodes where he is not there) than do any of the work she demands out of everyone else, therefore contributing even more to more white favoritism and let the POC characters get the short end of the stick.

Saw your reblog of the Camila post and I’m glad you admitted that you might’ve been projecting. It’s nice to see people admit they might’ve been wrong.
Oh yeah! That was over two years ago when we still only really saw her in the first episode, and since Luz was (and still is) my favorite, I kinda projected some of my mommy issues onto her. I forget what made me realize that Camila wasn't anything like that, but I know that by the time season 2 started I didn't think like that anymore. Even when I was projecting, I didn't think that Camila was purposefully being malicious, she just didn't know how to properly communicate with Luz, which is a little true to an extent.

HELLO STEVEN!!! Tell us about a cool AU you made or saw? For TOH???
Please don’t use my irl name for me here Bestie agshsheush /srs + /lh
I have several AUs I made for TOH mainly have to do with Hunter because he’s my blorbo that I project my mental illness onto. /hj
I haven’t talked about them here since I try to keep this blog mainly for my art and writing rambles but yknow it’s my blog and I will talk about what I want. I don’t have any art of these AUs drawn up but I’ve thought of them a lot.
I have my Timehop AU:
Which features a Golden Guard character who made it away from Belos only to escape in a time puddle and is currently a time outlaw. (Think Stanford Pines From Gravity Falls) They’re older than Hunter and more tech savvy instead of book savvy.
They basically hop around the multiverse a lot
New Grimwalker AU:
Where Hunter did die during the episode Hunting Palismen or was misplaced and Belos said “well time to make a new one” and makes a new grimwalker with similar memories but Luz is the only one who notices because she’s the only one who saw his face.
Amnesia AU:
Hunter loses his memories hilarity ensues
Birds of A Feather AU:
Just an excuse for me to draw Hawks from My Hero interacting with Hunter in the same universe

Series rewatch notes to self
S1E01 “us weirdos have to stick together”; takeout death with Warden Wrath cutting off Eda’s head (using scythe arm); Eda coerces Luz into her first adventure and that’s when Luz decides to stay, deceives her mom for the first time; quest to get King’s crown, him living in a fantasy world; King is a lot more enjoyable when I have the context of his developmental age, but it does make Eda look more questionable
S1E02 Luz draws more direct comparisons between her life and Azura than I remember; directly addresses dangers of living in a fantasy world, main character fallacy, trusting shady old men; Luz trapped in fantasy world and choosing to wake up; parallels between her projecting Azura fantasy dreamland onto BI (presented as hellish from start) vs projecting her depressed cognitive distortions onto the Collector’s fantasy dreamland; Nevareth “teen prince of angstmore” has an animal sidekick I forgot about, as a puppet gets stabbed by Luz.
S1E03 Luz refers to the Owl House as home in the cold open. Reference to Eda’s poor position in BI, Luz not wanting that for herself. Love Willow. Angry outburst and trouble controlling plant magic from the start. Confirmed Best: “Into the darkness you go 😉”. Gus is so smol. Didn’t have to make Amity so mean for how much it ends up being explored. King is treated more like a sentient pet than anything, weirds me out. Willow told to cut Luz, iconic crooked dagger. Abominations as mindless obedient creations. Willow confirmed plant prodigy, Bump says “remarkable.” Amity’s desperate need to be top student. High fives and hugs are human things.
S1E04 LORE. Boiling rain. King teaching about demons, v funny. Eda teaching spell circles bile sac. Owl beast curse; King knows about potions but think they give Eda magic. Luz wants to learn magic so people take her seriously. King dejected that Luz cares more about magic than demons. Bonding. Curse can be managed by elixir, entirely out of control otherwise. First dream memory not knowing who cursed her. Luz learns light spell.
S1E05 Covention. Introduction of coven systems. Eda is such a radical and I love her for it. Friction between her views and Willow and Gus’ societal norms. Lilith and EC get introduced (by Bump, v pro). Another case of mean is bad, nice is good and vice versa. Duel between Luz and Amity. King as a pet again. Lilith is Eda’s sister. Reveal via Kikimora at the end that she’s supposed to be capturing Eda, but she doesn’t try to in this ep. Big emphasis over multiple episodes on whether Eda is a good teacher/mentor for Luz. Eda and Lilith both cheat. They duel. Eda tells her the curse is killing her, “don’t know how many days I have left.”
S1E06 moonlight conjuring. Bad: Eda has a gambling problem; needless friction between Eda and Luz for conflict; Eda as a pickpocket played for laughs, acting like all crimes are created equal. Good: kids are all flawed but cute; Willow insecurity moment; Gus’ bucket list; Willow and Gus trying to protect Luz from Eda’s punishment at the end. Also that guy who enjoys throwing kids off of cliffs, v funny. Tibbles the capitalist. Eda w/o magic getting captured easily (to get handed over to EC). Owlbert doesn’t (can’t?) transform to help. Amity is legit such a bully to Willow.
S1E07 Lumity. But setup begins with Luz, Eda, King; better going into it knowing which split ups occur. Eda and King babysit for BQ, amazing reluctant parent Eda; “joke” at end about empty nest syndrome w parallels to Eda’s Requiem. Luz explicitly interested in befriending Amity because of Azura. Amity blames Luz, calls her a bully (retracts at end); implications for Luz’s guilt later. Twins presented as cool; v mean; rule breakers; inconsistencies wrt illusion magic; revenge on Amity for tattling on them. Amity diary entries.
S1E08 starts with Boscha, Luz recognizes her as a bully (weird framing with Amity). Body swap. Don’t buy premise of them not being able to empathize with each other; series started off with us weirdos sticking together, nothing done to undermine that. Would’ve preferred seeing them bond together. Interesting take with King wrt woobifying/coddling/babying characters. Unfortunate implications wrt framing of King as an adult sentient pet like creature. King is Luz, doesn’t act less mature than her; how old is he supposed to be? Skara isn’t that bad even in this. Luz does spell circles as Eda. Her AND OWLBERT get arrested by the EC. Lilith shows up; scouts react to her presence, she does command respect. Overrides orders to send Eda straight to conformatorium, to try to brand her into EC instead. Show won’t commit to Eda’s crimes. Ep includes rat worms, crow phones. Ends with Eda swapping everyone, it is horrifying, wild magic is dangerous ig
S1E09 Mattholomew human appreciation club. Gus lies about Luz being unbanned. Willow Disapproves. Friction between Eda and Luz about Eda’s ability (interest) in teaching Luz magic. Eda talks to Bump; he’s cool with Luz but Eda has a long permanent record. More about illusion magic. Like how terrible Matt is. Skara gets dragged off by a griffin and later has a cute scene “friendship is the real magic” lol. Gus’ weird wristwatch. Ghosts are little purple goo things?? Luz upset that Gus lied. Why Gus lied: being younger than everyone is hard, you get ignored. Bump promises to not tell the EC about Eda, “I’m a principal not a stooge.” Willow went to help but didn’t get to do anything?
S1E10 OWLBERT YES. King treated like a child, younger than Luz. Eda out of commission due to curse flare up. Willow and Gus (they miss the bus to wait for Luz at Willow’s prompting). Parents get children places by giving rise on staff confirmed. Half-owl beast, Eda “suggestible”. King uses her; he should’ve known better. Potion doesn’t work. King snaps her out of it 😒. Love BQ. Love Owlbert plot. BQ was right. Willow and Gus sidelined again. Gus “became slightly traumatized. Hooray!” No closure on main 3; potions aren’t working on Eda’s curse anymore. Ends on BQ cute.
S1E11 King and Luz write Ruler’s Reach. Eda dealing with curse and Lilith. Lilith starts off looking for bloom of eternal youth for Belos? Eda goes to follow Lilith and she tells Luz she’s leaving to an undisclosed location for a few days and Luz is fine with that. Stakes are building gradually. Skara author fangirl. Premise of Luz and King seems off, framed as King controlling the story. But Luz seemed to be controlling it at first, neither seem good at collaborating. Fun commentary on creative industry. Sentient abomination? 12:06 (see also end of ep 9). Glimpses of s2 Lilith. Interesting look at her and Eda’s relationship: Eda saves her then pushes her over to get to the bloom first; ends on positive note with her waiting for Eda to choose to join.
S1E12 Luz is the one to ditch Eda and King this time, for Lumity build-up. Idea of Azura book club brought up. Amity is much nicer to Luz; the twins are much nicer to Amity. Magic requirement at Hexside. MENTOR EDA. She hasn’t taught Luz any new spells but she has been reading her books about wild magic. Same problem as Teen Abom? Thing where Eda’s teaching method doesn’t work for Luz. Luz steals Amity’s training wand and angers beast. Gets Eda and twins (parental?) captured. Amity cages Luz to keep her safe. That’s what forces Luz to take Eda’s advice and listen to nature. Meanwhile King brings toys to life so that they tremble before him. Hooty murders them (played dark). Love the lore, hate the plot.
S1E13 Luz’s Hexside entrance exam, v interesting. Eda offer for her to back out, Quitter Badge. King eating out of Hexside’s trashcans. Willow explains coven head banners. Basilisk impersonating EC official. Track system; rule book made by EC. Bump follows to get donation from EC. Crystal balls used by oracle track (not just tv) and contain future telling ghouls. Detention track (with Viney). Needs to wait a whole year to try another track? “Maybe you’d do better in a human school” from Bump. Peaks into other classes - oracle seeing to end of life. All of them in there for multitracking 😒. Willow and Gus pitted as antagonists. She is consistently the responsible one of the two. King teaches a class. Bump does try to protect Amity from basilisk. Bump 300 years until retirement joke. Glyph magic hurts basilisk. Bump character growth re multitrack.
S1E14 Really small problems. “ready for trauma” line. About a Ferris wheel that gives you nightmares. Eda profiting off of Luz the human as a freak show. Owlbert is back. Willow gets to take some initiative, is the responsible friend. King portrayed as a kid, younger than the others. Consistent anti-law message with the show. The crowd wanted to see kids eaten. King explains it as demons do crazy things when they miss someone?
S1E15 where did my notes go??? It’s understanding Willow. Willow is hilarious. Christmas-ish is canon. Angry inner Willow is great. There was something else I can’t remember. More about mindscapes? Willow remembers what happened in there.
S1E16 Grom. Starts with Luz re Camila (she’d be freaked out by the demon realm haha). Amity is reflexively mean, catches herself when it’s “Luz and co.” Eda says Luz is human, fragile, so condescending. That’s what motivates Luz to take Amity’s place. This has those good scenes of Luz lying to her mom about her emotions via text. If Grom isn’t defeated everyone on the island has to live out their worst nightmare. “What’s the fun in watching a kid get eaten by a monster if it’s my kid?” I love Eda. Willow is more popular/confident at school now. Gus as MC; calls glyphs human magic. Bonds with King. Immersion broken by annoying meta humor. Grom!Camila hits so much harder now. Lumity displaces touching Eda rescue. Love Skara. End bit with Camila, Vee sending her letters, so cute.
S1E17 sports. Boscha intro, parallels with Willow into in ASIAS? Willow is popular. Amity counters Boscha’s snide comments, she grew up from being obsessed with status and challenging competition. New type of ghost, looks like a ghost. Eda used to play grudby. Can’t reason with crazy. Boscha says Amity went soft after Grom. Not after understanding Willow? Boscha can get away with murder bc sports. Lilith is back. Hooty grabs her from the forest. She’s here to arrest Eda. The jacket Eda gave Luz is her grudgby thing. Skara is mean but only via background looks. Willow has never played grudgby before. Montage joke. Luz pushes too hard. Willow does a last second save like in ASIAS. Willow the realist I love her. Also more anger. Amity really got boring when she gets her crush thing. Eda beats Lilith at grudby, can’t go back empty handed, tell him I put up a good fight. Luz learns fire magic. Skara isn’t on team at the end; sits out bc Boscha rejected Luz’s forfeit? Or just alternate? Starts off good game Willow at the end I love her. Ep ends looking like Amity is joining the squad; deceit.
S1E18 so much plot omg. Kikimora: DOU is approaching, others have blind many rogue witches to covens. Hooty is such an effective intruder alarm. What happened to the magic repelling cloak? Owl beast forever fate worse than death. The kids are so brainwashed. Kiki is the emperor’s assistant. “Witches had access to corrupt knowledge and that dishonored the Titan.” So much. “Good luck with puberty” such good delivery. Belos is straight up consuming palismen in front of scouts and everyone. Also clearly bad health. Threatening Liltih. “Stripped of your rank and banished. You know what happens to covenless witches.” With the heartbeat. Hunter standing there covered head to toe absorbing all of this jfc. Willow and Gus are the best. Interesting. Lilith says “these decrepit relics are useless” when she destroys the healing hat, but Willow and Gus’ relics worked. I wonder if it really could have healed the curse. Scouts are definitely watching Eda and Lilith duel. Bs Eda “wasting her magic” before she knew Luz. Didn’t have to make Lilith go so hard just to up the stakes, have curse triggered some other way. Emotional takeout tho tbf. Owlbert rescues Luz. Interesting found family bit, Lilith “Eda is with her real family.” SUCH a downer ending I love it.
S1E19 the cloak “to a young witch from her proud mentor.” The dagger is back. Luz blaming herself. Lilith to Eda “this is for your own good.” Belos teleporting. Lilith says Eda will become “a useful asset to the coven.” Mechanical staff appears; he uses it to make Eda present in owl beast??? Luz the human on his radar, he wants the portal. Lied to Lilith “don’t be naive it’s the Titan’s will.” He tells her to destroy Owlbert; inconsistent? PERRY YES. Excuse for petrifying her is refusing to join a coven and attacking a coven leader lol yikes. Willow and Gus are talking on their scrolls. Luz hates Lilith. Luz blaming herself again. Eda wanting to protect her. We’re a family 🥺. “You have a family already. Go back to them.” Luz so vengeful against Lilith. [Lilith calls Belos the most powerful witch on the Isles.] Paints it as Eda as a kid worked harder than Lilith, not sure I agree. Apparently well-known Belos quote, “To be great you have to make sacrifices.” Flashback background appearance from Oralia and Alador. Owlbert used to prove Lilith is legit. Perry calls her “Head coven leader” Lilith (when she’s tossed in the petrification cage last minute. (But the spell only hits Eda.) Hunter shows up again at the end. Must be busy after this between the portal door and the “promotion.”
[rush to catch up]
S2E10 Yesterday's Lie hits so much harder now. There is so much to explore with Camila and Vee's relationship. Both when Vee was pretending to be Luz and the immediate aftermath before the others showed up. And then the ending with Camila and Luz. Brutal. Also wish we could have seen Luz and Vee's relationship develop in TTT. Do they consider each other sisters now?

Luz for character bingo! c:
Tumblr media
okay, there just weren't really many spaces that adequately explain my feelings about Luz, so.
i love her. she is an absolute delight and probably my favorite cartoon protagonist of all time. i find her intensely, painfully relatable, and therefore also an absolute joy to write - getting into her headspace is so easy for me. if you spliced Luz and Hunter into one incredibly fucked up person, that person would have been me as a teenager.
okay, so, Luz. gosh. she's such a good character. i love how idealistic and hopeful and caring she is, how sweet and kind and compassionate, and yet how she also clearly has her own issues - deeply buried grief over the loss of her father (boy did the nail the "my dad is dead and it's kind of a big deal but i'm saying it's not because i really don't want to have to deal with someone else's feelings about it right now" feeling in that episode where she tells Amity about that), her own loneliness and awkwardness, the way she tends to just internalize everything and push away her own feelings and needs...
she's so awkward and clumsy in so many ways, but also so earnest. she cares so much about people and even though she's often very impulsive and intense, she's also pretty socially adept in some ways. she's good at figuring out how other people are feeling and what they need and trying to offer that.
i see Luz as the kind of undx'd/untreated (seriously, Camila, don't send the kid to social skills camp, send her to a fucking psychiatrist and get her some damn ritalin) adhd kid who's always just been... too much. too loud, too weird, too intense, too emotional, too invested in the wrong things in the wrong ways. the kind of person who has a switch where everyone else seems to have a dial.
i can imagine her as a younger kid having more trouble controlling her emotions than she does now, and being a lot more prone to impulsive displays of negative emotion - i notice that Luz tries really hard to put a positive face on things, and it feels a lot like someone who's very wary of her own capacity for anger and negativity.
she's clearly so isolated at home, without any real friends, and has just retreated hard into self-directed fantasy hobbies as a way of coping. but give her the chance to bond, and she jumps for it - she's not aloof, she's just been hurt and rejected so many times, but when she has the chance for a fresh start, she grabs it with both hands.
she tries so hard to see the good in everyone and give them the benefit of the doubt, which is helpful for people like Amity and Hunter, but comes back to bite her with people like Philip. i really enjoy how, idk, cohesive her whole personality is as a character - all of her good traits can be flaws, and many of her flaws can also be good!
she shows compassion to everyone, but some people don't deserve her compassion, and being too trusting gets her hurt. she's intense and impulsive, but it makes her very good at learning and teaching herself things, and means she doesn't overthink situations the way people like, say, Lilith do, and she's not afraid to do what she thinks is right.
she cares so much about other people, but she uses that as a way of suppressing her own issues. she neglects herself emotionally, bottling everything up inside and trying to project onto others and solve their problems as a sort of proxy for solving her own. very 'unaddressed trauma' type of feeling there, trying to give everyone else the care and compassion and support that she needs but doesn't know how to ask for or feels like she doesn't deserve.
i just love her a lot. she's so vibrant and real. as for 'better as part of a dynamic' - i think Luz is completely fascinating on her own, but she really shines when you get to play her off of other people. after all, isolation was her whole problem in the human realm. give her friends, enemies, foils, and watch what she does! the way she relates to and interacts with all the members of the cast is just endlessly fascinating.
i'm especially interested in playing her off of Hunter and Philip, because they're my faves, and the parallels and mirroring there are just delicious. but she has great interactions with everybody. she's a good kid and a good character.
