I’ll admit I’ve never watched ROTTMNT but i love that just by looking at the design you can differentiate the brothers. Also, i don’t know if it’s intentional, but you can almost tell what turtle they are supposed to be like: Raphael looks like a snapping turtle, Donatello is a soft shelf turtle and Leo is a red sided. I’m not sure about what Mickey is supposed to be, but that’s what I observed from the sketches and art. I might be completely wrong too.

Also, is it worth watching?

Okay I guess I do owe all my Gravity Falls fans an apology for the abundance of Rise fan art and fanfiction either posted and/or reblogged. Please note I still LOVE GF, but goddamnit Im hyperfixated on TMNT right now.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: yes. Give this show a shot.

Whether you’ve seen other TMNT versions or not, Rise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an amazing show with great characters, BEAUTIFUL animation, funny jokes, and so such RAW talented in everything, from the voice acting to the writing to the animation to EVERYTHING!

I could gush about this show for hours, but here’s a brig summary of why I think anyone should give Rise a chance!

1. It’s a short show. I know a lot of people have short attention spans, and believe me, knowing a show or movie series is long usually scares me and keeps me from trying it (there’s a reason why I only watched Marvel and Star Wars this year, and it was cuz of my bf). Rise only has 2 seasons, the 2nd season being cut in half, and the episodes are only 10-12 minutes long, with the rare 22 minute episode thrown in.

2. The voice talent is AMAZING!!! The voice director is the legendary Rob Paulson, and his spark can be heard in everyone’s performances. If you’re a fan of TMNT 2012, there’s a LOT of voice cameos, and if not, there’s still a lot of talent in this show! Not to mention Ben Schwartz (the voice for every blue character imaginable) voices Leo, and is HILARIOUS in this role!

3. When I tell you the animation is beautiful, I feel like I’m not doing the show justice. No words can do the artwork justice! The facial expressions, the movements, the backgrounds, the character designs, EVERYTHING about this show is a blessing to the eye! There are times the budget is cut (thanks Nickelodeon! 😡🤬) but they use it to their advantage and use stiff animation for comedic bits that works really well!

4. Two words: found family.

5. LGBTQ REPRESENTATION!!! I don’t wanna spoil anything, but they did what they could with the studio breathing down their necks and gave us some great representation! Hell, an entire episode is named “Hypno and Warren Sitting in a Tree!” So for the best viewing experience, just jump in blind and enjoy the gayness! 🏳️‍🌈

6. The movie. This is the most important reason of all to give this show a try. On August 5th, they released the Rise movie on Netflix. The show had been “put on hold” and the second season cut in half, HOWEVER, if the movie does well enough on Netflix, they might bring it back. The show’s first season is on Netflix and the entire show is on Paramount+ (or you could just pirate off the internet, not that I normally recommend this, but desperate times call for desperate measures) and the movie is beyond amazing and deserves it separate post on how awesome it is!

SO! Should you give Rise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a try? Yes. Will you regret it? No. Will it come back? Maybe, maybe not. But at the very least I can promise you, you will have a wonderful experience. ❤️💙💜🧡

I came across your blog from your Albedo art and it resurfaced my fixation on Ben 10 again. Not as much now but still interested 'cause I hyperfixate on a lot of other stuff.

Albedo is my favourite character. He was one of my many childhood crushes (most of them are villains and have red eyes 0_0) You could say it was his character design that got me interested in him. His Omniverse look was his PEAKED design imo. Ugh, I could write an essay why I love him if I want to.

Overall, I just wanna say, your art is amazing❤❤❤ and glad that Albedo is getting more attention.

I agree on him being interesting af in terms of character design, but i give his omniverse a 2/10 because of that greasy ahh hair of his. It don't move frfr. and thank you so much for the compliment, dear! ^^ 💖💖💖

AND AN EXTRA NOTE, UR SO MOOD FRFR I'M GONNA RANT ABOUT HIM TOO::

tbh, if you look at it the general way, Albedo is still extremely underrated along with every other good character/villain that isn't ben. I have a pinterest feed all about ben 10 and boy it's SO HARD to find any new variety of screencaps or fanarts of him since 2017. this is the main reason I decided to start drawing him anyway. he's way too good to be left unnoticed but this is another thing most people don't see. he's way more than a villain or a copy of Ben, he's a mind of his own. he's very interesting in terms of personality/ villainous performance. and I find it even more amazing how it hasn't changed since AF. I know I may be looking too deep into it, and it's just a standard portrayal of him, but don't you think it's cool how he never learns from his mistakes? it shows just how impulsive and moreover desperate he is to get what he wants. He's a clumsy villain. even though Ben warns him time and time again that his actions will have consequences, he'd rather move with his dignity and smarts rather than worry about something he has no business with. Property damage is moreover likely to be the main reason he was imprisoned anyways, but there's way more to it and I'll get to that in a while. remember in 'A Few Brains More' when Ben warned Albedo that shooting at him will lead to trouble? Albedo didn't listen to him and ended up destroying one of the very pillars that generate the energy to the brain extraction machine thingy. He's one stubborn little bastard and I think that's a quality that gives so much potential for future representations (ofc I mean fanfiction), especially in the case of a redemption arc. Imagine just how hard it would be to convince him that his situation isn't that bad; the emotion and the grief and overall mental erosion. Although sadistic, wouldn't it be interesting to dive deep into his faults and manipulate them to see what he'd be like in completely new and overwhelming situations? His anger, grudge holding, stubbornness and superiority complex along with his new analogy of what his motives and plans even were ;that he wanted nothing but his galvan form back, and a little exerpt of his epiphany that destruction is useless, because in fact it is. I think the wiki disregarded this part-- or, well...took it too lightly, in a better sense. And the scene after that, too. The wiki interpreted him going back to trying to clobber ben after taking the second second brain again as him 'going back to his evil ways', despite that not at all being the case. This interpretation makes is seem like as soon as Albedo lost Azmuth's brain, he lost his epitomized consciousness that "destruction is useless and to create is elite", and I feel like that really belittles just how....innocent he is. Blasphemous idea I know but hear me out. The wiki and the show played him out as way more dangerous than he actually is, if there even lies a fatal amount of it at all anyways. All that, when in reality, in the previously mentioned scene his words and actions after the brain dilemma basically meant being angry at Ben for stripping him of the extra knowledge that lead to that epiphany. He only clobbered him again because not only was he disregarded in his words cause he FINALLY understood everything wrong with what was happening, but he was yet again, two steps farther away from getting the omnitrix. This scene was the parallel of the one in AF where he admitted that he gave up on the contract with azmuth and that if he just got his form back, he'll leave Ben alone. of course that isn't the reality of things.

I'm gonna go back to the imprisonment part for a second, and say that he is completely innocent in regards of crime aside from the fact that he caused a lot of property damage. At least Ben has an excuse, he's a hero and has to do what he has to no matter the consequences (of course bearing in mind the safety of the citizens). Albedo is just an outsider. He can't even bail out nor with money nor with eyewitness. It's the fact that he's considered a global threat that overestimates Albedo's value of danger.

-if he's really evil, why has he never thought of invading earth?

-if he's really evil, why did he not think about using the omnitrix to take over the universe?

-if he's really evil, why did he cut his partnership with vilgax many times even thought they both wanted the omnitrix? hint: Albedo called vilgax out on "wanting the omnitrix to take over the world which he promised he wouldn't do". that implies that Albedo doesn't want to take over the universe at all. Nowhere in the franchise has he stated he wanted power over the universe.

-if he's really evil, how come the reality of things is that he's never tried hurting anybody that isn't Ben? Oh, Kevin and Gwen and the Plumbers? fun fact, they were only in his way. If they weren't there, his focus would be on Ben and Ben only.

-if he really wanted destruction, why has it been hinted many many MANY disregarded times that his only goal is to get his galvan form back and not rule anything?

see where I'm getting at?? and what was the purpose of the omnitrix anyways??? oh no, Azmuth made it to form peace aaa how scary if Albedo wanted a copy that meant bad news oh no were in danger etc, etc. even though it was never mentioned why he even wanted a copy, nor was it implied that he wanted it for something bad. Just that he got fired because he kept nagging Azmuth to make a copy for him because Ben was untrustworthy, you know, when he was a kid. He still is a kid, but WHAT WAS SO BAD ABOUT MAKING A COPY IF IT WAS ONLY GONNA BE USED FOR PEACE????? I'm so lost. seriously, why is he the bad guy again??

it's kinda sad honestly. to me Albedo is a mumisunderstood, well written villain-- if you could even call him that-- that just wanted one thing for the sake of another, harmless, actually very peaceful thing. It's a bit unfair how he's treated as the second biggest criminal in the show although he had no bad motives. That is to say NOR HIM OR BEN WERE IN THE WRONG. they were just doing what they had to on each of their terms, but it just so happens that their goals clash as they can't achieve both of them at the same time. Want a copy? yay go ahead, but its been proven that he needs a piece of the original to make a complete one, but Ben's DNA is the default, so he'd still be a human otherwise one alien for all eternity. Ben gives the watch? same problem. plus earth is in danger. Kill Ben????? same problem. it's a lose : lose situation in any case.

phew that was a lot of talking, but I hope you related to the ideas in this rant in any way. I really wish someone would hear me out on this because this is reaaaaaallllllyyyyyyy looked over.

1. What is your AO3 account?

2. How many words did you write total in 2022?

189, 604. Apparently. I'm not sure if this counts the entire fics that were finished in 2022 or only the chapters that were published in that time span. But that's what ao3 says, so I'll take it at its word.

3. How many fics did you publish in 2022? How many multichapters vs oneshots?

Other than two fics that started before 2022 but were finished in that year, 5 fics. Two of those are multichapters and remain unfinished. Two are finished multichapters. And one is a oneshot.

4. What was your longest fic? Your shortest fic?

From the ones started and finished in 2022, Did I ever Leave the Lights On is the longest and Cul de Sac is the shortest.

5. What was your most popular fic? Your least popular fic?

Not counting Children of the Dust and Who in the Sunshine which started publishing long before 2022 (and with which comparison of the rest would be unfair haha), according to average and ratios of hits, kudos and comments, etc, Did I ever Leave the Lights On would be the most popular. Noli me tangere or The Invention of Andrés de Fonollosa would be the least popular.

6. What fic didn’t perform as well as you thought it would?

I honestly never have any expectations for fics. I have wants, obviously haha, there are ones I'm more excited for than others, but I never have any idea which fics would be liked or perform well and which wouldn't.

7. What fic performed way better than you thought it would?

Again, I don't have expectations. And I don't think anything that was published in 2022 specifically surprised me.

8. What was your favorite fic you wrote from 2022?

Hm, if we're counting only the ones I started and finished in 2022, that would be a tie between lights and the invention of Andrés de Fonollosa. I enjoyed writing both very much and they are the fics I'd sometimes return to read passages from or so.

If we're counting started but unfinished ones, I would also choose The Swan's Symphony. It's obviously still very early for me to really know how I feel about the fic, but since It's the one I'm still writing and I'm very hyperfixated on now, it should have a spot.

9. What was your favourite fic that somebody else wrote in 2022?

Hm, difficult to choose. Very. I'll pull a Kal here (and take the chance to form a mini rec list of the fics I enjoyed in 2022)

Those Violent Delights by Aphelius. It's a multichapters fic with three chapters published so far. It has one of the most interesting premises I've encountered in this fandom. Andrés is a criminal psychologist who gets personally entangled with a loose serial killer, Palermo. Both Andrés and Martín are very in character (and very insane). Strong Hannibal vibes. Beautiful depiction of obsession and insanity and larger than life characters (which is the right way to approach berlermo) with also a very honest love story. One of my top favorites.

Solo per te by Alley. After the bank heist, Martín returns to Buenos Aires. And Andrés appears. Like always, even through Google translation (one day I'll fulfill my promise and learn this language. Then I'll reread those in the original!) it's a very sublime and elegant piece of work that gives berlermo their due nuance. A very enjoyable and emotional read.

A Lamb for Our Love by Brownest_goldfish. It's still incompleted, but remains a great read. Berlermo's (established) relationship takes a dark turn after Andrés returns from a horrid kidnapping. Granted, I know more about what will happen in the second chapter (hehe) but the fic takes a very interesting, dark psychological dive into berlermo and everything their relationship represents to each of them. Check the tags before reading it.

A Lover in the Story by Brownest_goldfish. Terminally ill Andrés grows fascinated with a serial killer on the loose. A slasher fic set in a creepy small town. Impecable slasher vibes for those who love the genre, and incredible character work.

Remember what your old pal said by Rocinan. ToyStory au. Nothing else needs to be said on the matter. One of the funniest and most in character fics of the year.

Birdcage by Rocinan. Another of my favourite dark fics. An obsessed "boom boom ciao" victim of Martín's isn't satisfied with Andrés' existence in Martín's life, and decides to punish both of them for it. I.e, berlermo go through hell and back at the hands of some pathetic blond. A great read. Check all the tags before reading.

Dark Fantasies by NaturesMarvel. This could be considered cheating because it was written as a gift to me. But I'm being completely objective here! Berlermo being the dark assholes they are, and having their sweet moments still.

But in this twilight (our choices seal our fate) by Alfredo_Kesmann. Twilight AU. Nothing more need to be said. The world needs a berlermo twilight au and Alfredo Kesmann delievered. A hilarious and incredible read.

Something Borrowed, Something- by Anonymous. Another VERY interesting dark read. Andrés is abuducted by Gandia (this fandom really has a thing with getting Andrés' abuducted, as if the true victims are the people who have to live with him in their house), basically brainwashed into taking anything Gandia throws at him as he believes his blue eyes captor is his best friend and soul mate, Martín. Very well written unreliable narrator pov. Definitely give it a read by read the tags first.

Like the Painting of a Sorrow by Brownest_goldfish. A very poetic character study of Andrés that gracefully and concisely explores his relationship with himself, Martín, Rafael, Tatiana, beauty, and chaos.

Reflection by Alley. Berlermo are more of a background relationship here, actually. But hey are still depicted beautifully and accurately. And otherwise, this is a Mulan AU where Sergio decides to go to war in place of Andrés as he's too sick. So a very fun read! Also, Tokyo is Mushu in this version, Sergio's guardian little dragon. Literally nothing is better than this.

Finally getting around to the Terror Asks. It's been a week, lads.

arctic: how would you cope on a Victorian ship?

I am prone to motion sickness, so that immediately puts me at a major disadvantage. I gather that one adjusts after a while, but I'd probably spend the first week wanting to die. And that's before you even get to the other modern inconveniences. In short: poorly. This has not stopped me from wanting to sign up for one of those Tall Ship programs, though. At least nowadays we have Dramamine.

captain - who’s your favourite coldboy?

Harry Goodsir, no question. In the scene at the end of "Punished, As a Boy", when you see him start to question his unthinking assumptions for what is probably the first time in his life, whilst also genuinely trying to be nice to this poor woman surrounded by stupid white men: that was the moment I said to myself, "ah yes, this one is mine."

And as luck would have it, he's also one of the cold boys whose real-life analogue is actually rather well-documented, and everything I've learned about that guy has also been tremendously endearing. His own father dragging him gently for his spelling. The fact that he calls things like microscopic crab bits "extremely beautiful". His fussing over his attempts to acquire a dog for Erebus. The fact that he seems to have been one of those people whose enthusiasm for his hyperfixations actually tows other people along with him. Delightful.

the c - do you create art or writing about the terror?

Indeed I do. Can't believe how long I've been on this bullshit, to be perfectly honest, but here we are.

erebus - what scenes are your favourite and least favourite from the show

Favorites:

"You are the worst kind of second!" Every time I've convinced someone to watch this show and they do, I know when they've hit this scene because I get some kind of message like "oh my god, fuck this Franklin guy". LOL. Just wait.

"We've come here to find a way through to China and India." Just watch this poor little muffin realize, as he's saying it, that 1. it sounded better in his head and 2. shit, this is actually ... stupid?

"Does that really work with anyone, Mr. Hickey?" Not just the sass, but also Hickey's little "eh, it's a fair cop, asshole" shrug as he walks away.

"And once it's past all hope, the mind goes unnatural with thoughts." Just a great character moment for Fitzjames and Blanky—Fitz for how he asks the question in the first place, and considers his implications (the boy is a good leader, actually), and Blanky for being, well, Blanky.

"Twenty. I have performed on twenty." Goodsir vs. Hickey. Morals vs. practicals. Class warfare. This scene has it all.

"Is God here Captain? Any God? It doesn't matter. This place is beautiful to me, even now. To see it, with eyes as a child's. There is wonder here, Captain. And her. Do you Do you think she's still alive?" Is it a day ending in Y? Then it's a day I'm thinking about this scene at least once.

Least favorite: It's not so much scenes as little things I kind of wish had been a bit different. I'd have liked Silna's father and the hunter to have had names, and to have spent some more time getting to know them. A little more breathing room for relationships between some of the characters to develop. The fact that we don't get even a bit of one of my favorite scenes in the novel, Goodsir's "how to do a cannibalism" speech. The truth is, I have remarkably little to complain about with this show.

no bc it's also been. YEARS since i was Really into dr (and i was. REALLY into dr KSJDF. yeah it's been like three years huh). but YESSS your taste is so good. my favorites if i remember correctly were uhhhh hina and sayaka from thh for SURE. there were a bunch more who i liked but those two were the ones i ended up being not normal at all about. and then AKANE akane was like. i loved akane. AND YESSS sonia nevermind the character of ALL time. i remember i liked hajime a lot too i think he was my favorite protag. and i really enjoyed gundham!! sdr2 was probably my favorite cast on average, i enjoyed them all a lot with like one or two notable exceptions. and then with v3 my favorites were miu tenko and angie because i love widely hated female characters lol nobody got those three like i did i was in the trenches doing deep character analysis i tell you

ALSO. nekomaru most mentally stable dr character truther!! i am also usually All Girls but i think about hypothetical nekomaru nagito dynamic semi regularly because putting the most mentally stable and one of the most mentally. not. stable characters next to each other yields extremely funny dynamics..

i also put a LOT of thought into celeste sayaka dynamics like it's about the fronts we put up the masks we wear the performance of it all..... i will never be normal about those two ever.. man i am thinking about dr characters again this is wild.

also YESSS i love kyoko's va and i loved her as ann in p5.... speaking of which...... who are your p5 favorites.... i am a haru girlie personally. also talk to me more about va's i would love to hear about va's...

youand me🤝🤝 i was huge in DR during the second half of ? 2020 and it came to be such a Big hyperfixation. i CANT believe it's been 3 years. i just can't. BUT THANK YOU!!!!! THAT MEANS A LOT 2 ME HEHE i am pretty much a fan of all the characters in one way or another though... except for the one that starts w/ k and ends in okichi LOL...

HINA AND SAYAKA ARE SUCHU GOOD CHOICES FOR SUUURE sayaka is just incredibly interesting (despite the amount of screentime she got) and aoi is such a genuine sweetheart, i lvoe them both. AKANE IS ALSO SUCH A GOOD CHOICE, its amazing all this girl has gone through and yet shes still one of the cheeriest characters. and i jsut love how like. how she is with the people she cares about. PLUS HER RELATIONSHIP W/ SONIA IS SOOO CUTE... i specifically remember liking their lil interactions during one of the ? last trials. hajime best protag is also a very good choice, i remembner rly likking his personality and stugff.. plus i loved his voice as well lkldngd you're def not alone in loving the sdr2 cast in its entirety! which im sure you're aware of. im kind of interested to hear who your 1 or 2 exceptions were though (eyeballs)AND OOO A GOOD BATCH FOR V3... i of course cant say much in depth since i havent played the third game but GOSH... i can def say now that both tenko and angie esp deserved sooooooo SOOOOO mcuh better... i hate what kodaka did to them. im super happy all 3 of them had such a huge fan behind them though!!!!!

as for DR its like. a good majority have voiced 2 characters atleast. off the top of my heeeeead... lucien dodge voices both hifumi and kiibo. and im pretty sure hes dating (engaged to?) erica mendez, who voices maki. marieve herington as celeste is still fr one of my fave performances like ever in a video game.. amanda celine miller voices both toko and junko! ill stgop for now but the overlap between danganronpa persona and fire emblem is so funny. i get that like theres only reallty a handful in this industry but im pretty sure almost every single VA has been in fire emblem heroes

In everyone's residence wether it be small, or Big, rich, or poor all across teyvat in a dimly lit room there's always a painting a replica of a Young Girl with a blue flower, the rest is all monotoned colors and they call her "The Girl with the Blue Flower".

The way the paintings they have varies, Some she's sitting on a bed, some paintings she's holding an unpeeled apple with a knife, or with a bird and a cat, some are her eating macarons and drinking tea, some are her in a garden sitting on a red bench, near a river with 2 bridges or in a garden of blue flowers, the most popular are her sitting idly with a blue box and a bird cage.

In a small unnamed island east of Guyun stone forest and North Inazuma stood a manor on it, in one of the dimly rooms a painting in an easel covered by a sheet was uncovered. A Merchant was left alone

"Heehee, have you come to paint me?" A sweet voice spoke up within the room, too dim for the man to indentify the person who spoke. "Who...Who said that?" The man questioned. "Me Silly~" you moved your hand to wave, though robotically and stiff it gave off a slight "comforting" but ominous vibe. The merchant's breath hitched when his eyes landed on the painting. A girl sitting there one eye closed in all monotone colors...but a red eye.

"A Painter? Am I finally getting painted....you are a painter right?" You tilted your head to the side stiffly. The man nodded no. "It's rude to stare at a lady you know" you retorted back. "Get to painting...though I'm feeling peckish, I'm sure my acolytes won't mind if I asked for some food...."

In less that a moment Who have been known as the God of anemo, Barbatos walked in with an apple and handed it to the painter and whispered "Paint it how she likes her apples" softly like a warning. 'How she likes it??? I don't even know who she is.'

"Tsk tsk...how long must you take" You said in annoyance "But there is no paint to use" the man mumbled out "Oh..here—" a flame appeared on her fingertips "Oh dear it's too bright let me....shrink the flame" The flame shranked and the man stumbles back 'my chest...it's hurts....' a stinging pain in his chest rised.

"Your life is like a small candle flame...what color will it be, Blue like the sky, Yellow like a sour lemon, or red like....hehe let's see~"

The man picked up the brush "I'm bored and hungry too, I wonder whose screams will sate my appetite" you giggled.

"Now Paint. Put your soul into it. Stake your life on it" you whispered.

The merchant painted the apple on her hands, and colored it red "Oh. an apple. It looks delicious." You stopped speaking and opened your eyes and looked at him "But I can't eat it when it's still unpeeled. I see now. you want ME to peel it!" The man visibly gulped He's upsetted her.

"I'm very good at peeling things, you know!" You tilted your head to the right in an almost impossible manner and lifted your hand up.

The merchant was discovered in the studio with all their skin peeled off. No. 2 skinned

A couple figures walked in "What a great performance that was your Grace" Morax..or Zhongli spoke up.

"Yes..yes..and another day without me getting painted" you sighed.

"Some day we will come across a painter to paint you, Your Grace" Ei spoke sweetly.

Curious and autistic-coded

Hello there! April draws to an end and with that I think it’s high time to hurry up and write this. What does April have to do with anything, you ask? April is the Autism Acceptance Month. So what better month to do this?

Unfortunately I didn’t make it. I failed. It’s already 1. 5. when I’m posting this. But at least I tried to deliver on time.

In this mini essay I’ll present my case about why I think the Curious brothers from TS2 Strangetown display autistic-coded traits and my personal takes on it.

It’s basically your average headcanon post but with a funny top hat!

0: Preface: What do I mean by “autistic-coded”?

When a character is coded as something, it means that they have traits that are associated with the demographics in question to make the consumer knowingly or not link the character with the demographic, although the character's "label” is never explicitly disclosed.

In the nutshell, it means that there are canonical reasons to read the characters as autistic, although you won't find the word "autism" anywhere in the game nor in the developer's commentary.

In this particular case I do believe that the developer may not even be aware of the code, as there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. If there is, I’m not aware of it and I would be happy to learn.

So, let’s start!

1: “The white male who is very good at science”

Unfortunately autistic representation in pop-culture has a long history of being rather straightforward in which traits the characters often have. This stems from the belief that autism is “a boy’s disorder” (that’s why some autism charities to this day use blue in their symbols). Among popular examples of autistic-coded characters are Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper and Death Note’s L and Near. I’m sure you can think of more but you’ll find that most of them are men and either explicitly white or racially ambiguous white-passing. They also tend to be gifted in tech, logic or other science-y activities.

There’s nothing wrong with that! Nothing wrong with being an autistic with those “stereotypical” characteristics and there is nothing wrong with people being represented. What is wrong is the monotony and afab people/people of color being underrepresented which leads (among other factors) to harder access to diagnosis and resources for those people in real life. But! That’s a topic for a different day. (and not for a simbrl, mind you)

Back to the Curiouses! I just wanted to say that autism in media is traditionally associated with characters whose gender presentation, race and interests align with theirs. Those characteristic thus make a very convenient template for autistic-coding.

2: Inconsistent performance, huge gaps between strengths and weaknesses

Pascal, Vidcund and Lazlo are very skilled Sims by default, extraordinarily even for their age. Pascal has a skill maxed while his younger brothers both near maxing theirs.

But as you can see in Pascal’s default skill panel, apart from Creativity, all his other skills are extremely low, 0 points for Mechanical, Body and Charisma, 1 point for Cooking and Logic and his second best skill, Cleaning, has only 3 points. The same situation can be observed in Vidcund’s and Lazlo’s, except their strong suits are Logic and Cooking respectively.

Huge discrepancies within performance in different cognitive areas is a common trait found in those on the autism spectrum. We’re often talking extremes here and the scale of the difference is the defining factor. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, it’s just in neurodivergent people those tend to be unusually noticeable.

I think that skills, simplified as they are, are the closest The Sims has to possibly simulate that because they track the character’s performance and expertise in different areas and allow comparison. In real life, of course, this comparison is not nearly as possible and exact, nor desired, but for all our analysis-loving enthusiasm, here we’re still talking fictional characters.

3: Struggle with social cues

It is widely known that one of autistic traits are difficulties with processing social situations, picking social cues and successfully replicating socially desired behavioral patterns.

But these three are Sims, are they not? They cannot possibly display this trait, since they’re programmed the same way as others.

Yes and no.

It is true that there is no specific in-game feature that would allow Sims to behave with explicit neurodivergency in mind* but with the right combination of traits they can simulate behavior that really hits close to home for neurodivergent players.

*at least not in TS2, TS3 has traits that simulate some possible neurodivergencies but their names tend to be rather... ableist unfortunate and they’re not relevant to this post since they’re not autism related, and even if they were, we’re focusing on TS2 exclusively

Let’s take look at Lazlo here. He is, indeed, a playful soul. He likes to goof around, tell jokes, make others laugh. And since he’s very close to his brother Vidcund, close enough even to Tell Dirty Joke (an interaction that needs quite a high relationship to unlock), he autonomously does just that.

And oh boy, does Vidcund disapprove.

From my personal experience playing them, their relationship usually takes quite a hit from every cheeky joke Lazlo throws Vid’s way. They usually autonomously repair it very quick but it happens often.

But that’s a standard behavior. Vidcund’s very serious, he doesn’t take well to jokes.

No. I mean technically yes, Vid is definitely a grumpy old plant dad but, at least in my game, he tends to accept Lazlo’s jokes. All kinds of them, actually, except for the dirty ones. And Pascal, who technically has even lower Playful points (0 in comparison to Vidcund’s 4), doesn’t seem to mind Lazlo’s poor attempts at grown-up humor.

But! What is it that makes Lazlo try still? What drives him to attempt to make Vidcund laugh with a dirty joke over and over again? (and fail?)

I my interpretation, Lazlo doesn’t do that on purpose, he is just really poor at evaluating “dirtiness” of a given joke and frequently misinterprets Vidcund’s cues. The animation of a dirty joke being rejected even supports that as Vid doesn’t signal his discomfort with any exaggerated easy-to-read facial expression until Lazlo gets to his punchline.

No only that but as I mentioned, the invisible lines between spicy and too vulgar are often hard to thread. I can recall many times I thought I was saying a witty quip on an “adult” topic and was met with awkward silence or someone shushing me because “that’s not how you speak in public”. I can well imagine myself in Lazlo’s shoes.

A situation of social cues being misinterpreted or ignored can be observed also in Vidcund. Programming-wise, those are just his low Niceness and extreme Shyness showing but combined they again paint a picture of a very neurodivergent-looking behavioral pattern.

He often behaves like the concept of politeness or social rules doesn’t exist because the combination of the aforementioned traits makes him come off very blunt (lecturing and shoving telescope-peepers with no warning whatsoever) and distant (having a high chance of rejecting simple small-talk socials).

Yes, I am fully aware that it makes a stronger case for him being an a**hole than autistic but... there’s no reason he can’t be both. Not all autistic people are sweet cinnamon buns, all personalities you can think of can be neurodiverse and, for some their neurodiversity can even amplify their inconsiderate ways, as I believe it is the case with our dear grouch Vidcund.

4. Their bios

“No matter what happens, Pascal believes there is a logical explanation for everything. In his free time, he practices home psychoanalysis and collects conspiracy theories.”

(that’s how I imagine practicing psychoanalysis looks like, sorry Freud)

“Serious and exact, Vidcund strives to fit the universe into a nice tidy package. He has an unnatural fondness for African violets.”

“Not as studious as his older brothers, Lazlo got his degree in Phrenology. He likes to call phone psychics and spends hours trying to bend forks with his mind.”

Both Pascal’s and Vidcund’s bios point to a pattern-focused worldview with a strong emphasis on rationality as the center-point that anchors the way they understand the world around them and build their principles on. This “pattern-ization” of thinking is a common autistic trait, with rationality being a popular theme because emotions tend to be difficult to access and asses for many of us.

Lazlo’s biography is an outlier. But it still has something significant in common with those of his brothers: All three of their bios allude to a potential special interest of sorts.

Special interests as an autism-related term are very specific, in-depth and long-term hobbies or areas of expertise that make an autistic person happy and they tend to go to seemingly exhausting lengths, often at the cost of other areas of knowledge and most likely the person’s ability to talk about anything else for a long enough time. (a loving hyperbole, no disrespect meant) Mine are my characters and cats. An even more intense but a short(er)-term passion is called a hyperfixation.

Them potentially having a special interest is yet another possible autistic-coded feature.

5. Wait. Why does it matter?

Right. What does it matter if a Sim (A SIM) (or two or three) is autistic? What do I hope to achieve, pushing my autistic Curiouses agenda down your throats?

I got to write a long rant-piece about some of my favorite TS characters and I feel like I can finally die satisfied.

Apart from that and me sharing my happiness of finding some good pixels I can relate to, it is a matter of representation.

Remember by the very beginning I wrote how most of the representation our community gets in media tends to be just a one specific type of character?

And how the Curious brothers seem to fit the stereotype to a point?

There is something I omitted, something I saved for the last on purpose.

The role. The role in their story, the role in the society the piece of media portrays.

We often see neurodiverse, autistic or autistic-coded character as children, students, villains, lone savants, victims in distress, comedic relief sidekicks, either very vulnerable and needing protection, or detached and having their role defined only by their academic prowess or their special interest/profession.

What we rarely get to see them as, are... parents.

That’s what many of us autistics are or plan to be someday in the future. The dogma around autism has started to dwindle relatively recently and there are little to no examples of autistic adults being the care-givers for once in the media around us.

The Curious brothers are just that. They are chaotic, they are eccentric, they can be a little too much... but they are dutiful and loving fathers/uncles to their little aliens they raise.

They make it work. Even if they face difficulties, even if they don’t exactly fit the standard.

“Sometimes, a family truly can be three brothers raising alien babies, and it’s beautiful.”

It encourages us to define family by love rather than traditional structures and it shows us that portrait of a functional neurodiverse family we need to see.

And goodness, is it a powerful sight.

okay i’ll bite. what is mcyt and dream smp. like i know what they stand for but what exactly... is it.... is it actually good or just your latest hyperfixation AGSHJSJSKS

oh god beware this is long and also i technically wrote it as part of a tangent to another ask but i realized this response suited this question much better but it also makes references to that ask which i will answer right after this one

“what is minecraft youtube?” well any YouTube video that features minecraft is technically minecraft youtube. i specifically only care about like. dream + friends. i follow the ‘feral boys’ (dream george quackity sapnap karl) mostly? but if ur question is: what is dream known for? the answer is minecraft manhunt and dream smp

so what’s minecraft manhunt? to understand that, u need to understand that minecraft isn’t “just blocks” because it is a beatable game haha. u beat the game by killing the ender dragon and obviously there’s a lot of stuff u need to do to do that. but i won’t bore u w the details. “speedrunning minecraft” means u beat minecraft very fast. dream used to be the record holder for beating minecraft a few months ago. he no longer is but i won’t get into that. it’s an annoying discussion n literally no one cares. all i’ll say is if u really believe he cheated and that he wasn’t being targeted by people who have since been exposed for trying to frame him for saying slurs that he never said (amongst other stuff), then u literally hate neurodivergent people so much. that’s all!

so what is MANHUNT, specifically? basically, dream does a series where x number of people are HUNTING him down and trying to KILL him before he beats the game. if he dies even ONCE, he loses. he’s done this with one hunter (george), two (+sapnap), three (+badboyhalo), four (+antfrost), and now five hunters (+awesamdude)

the hunters have infinite lives, and a compass that leads them to where dream is at any given point in the game. dream is allowed to kill them as many times as he wants, as a form of self preservation

so what’s the allure to manhunt? essentially, it’s how dream plays the game. he’s incredibly skilled at pvp (fighting) and parkour (moving fast and agile that i can’t even begin to explain. u need to see this for urself. it’s even more impressive if u play the game) and “clutching” (how he saves himself from risky moves and all the absolutely CREATIVE ways he does it)

also all the traps he sets to kill the hunters since it’s hard to go up against multiple people no matter how good you are. and how QUICKLY he thinks. it’s amazing. people with adhd are amazing and dream is a PRIME example of that. it makes me less hateful of my adhd :) and more appreciative of my traits :)

how did he do this? lots of research, lots of practice, lots of training. dream used to be a really average minecraft player who had to beg GEORGE to go easy on him. now? george loses to dream even on 40/50 hearts (the usual is 10). dream poured his heart into making his videos, putting a creative spin and skillful spin to his content that had never really been seen/executed as well before. and so 1.5 years after he started actively making YouTube videos he has over 20 million subscribers. and I’m not kidding, that number could be 30 million in a few months from now. that’s how fast he’s growing

ok i got off topic. another great thing about manhunt is dream’s relationship w the HUNTERS. the hunters are friends who dream has known for many years, and also they come up with great plans to defeat him as well. in many ways, they can also be seen as the “underdogs” in manhunt, especially since dream won the 4 hunters series 3-2. anyway in manhunt, all of the players are in an open channel discord voice chat, so they can all hear each other talk, and also talk to each other. sometimes the hunters discuss strategies before the face off, or they dm ideas secretly in the game chat, or attempt to talk in code. but mostly dream can hear the things they say, and they can hear the things he says. it makes it so that they can attempt to trick each other, but they can also hear things that give them a leg up in the game. etc etc. the banter that goes on is like. BIG part of what makes manhunt fun to watch

and the editing...... it is very good and engaging n he chooses fun music :) the speedrun music is a meme by now but it still slaps unironically. he makes excellent choices n i am very entertained

OKAY. so what is dream smp?

(smp stands for Survival Multiplayer. aka: a lot of people play together in a world where u can die and monsters spawn. the dream part is because dream owns the server)

once upon a time, there were two best friends. their names were dream and george. they decided to play minecraft survival together, but they didn’t want to beat the game super fast this time. THIS was about having fun. they wanted to casually explore the world, build a house together, raise some animals, start a farm, etc! after a bit they started to add some of their other friends so more people could have fun with them. and then more people got added. and the dream smp started to include a roleplay aspect because they invited people who did roleplay on other servers

i won’t summarize the events for u. if u wanna know what HAPPENED plot wise, this dude evanmcgaming makes like. summaries that are low key documentaries. very well made, he includes clips from the actual lore streams when necessary! his channel is here and i’ll list the documentaries in order: first | second | third | fourth | fifth

and then this really cool 18 year old Filipino girl started animating events on the dream smp to look REALLY cool n it got so many views and her first animation was done on her PHONE w her FINGER and it made the people on dream smp go damn we need to step the FUCK up so that this girl can get better material for her animations. they are all huge fans of her. everyone is a huge fan of her. she’s called sad-ist, and so far there are 4 main animations: first | second | third | fourth

anyway now! dream smp is essentially what i would call gay planned theatre improv but the medium through which they perform is not a stage but on minecraft. there actually is WRITING involved in this, they script the series of events etc, but for the most part they don’t actively script dialogue afaik?

some truly AMAZING bits of dialogue has come out of the dream smp. the dream smp is basically. gamers transform into theatre kids before ur very eyes + some of these bitches WERE theatre kids and they’re showing it now!

it’s amazing watching the growth because a lot of them have improved leaps and bounds. one of the most notable improved actors is dream ❤️ yea im bringing him up ok because im RIGHT his acting used to just be him screaming but now he can give me chills. he’s very good n is the “main villain” on dream smp :)

and like. not only do we have people like sad-ist animating the smp we have members like quackity who include pre recorded elements in his lore streams to make it just. a truly incredible experience. quackity my beloved. i love him so much

jatp fanworks appreciation - day 1 (writers)

motivation - so in true me fashion and my aversion to brevity, i've made three (3) posts (see also artists, gifs/edits) to celebrate the wonderful people in this fandom who have made my jatp tumblr experience what it is; a community of people who simply shout into the void about their love of a ghost band and their fearless female leader. i've enjoyed simply being on the sidelines admiring everyone's love for the show, but i thought this would be a good time to really show my appreciation for all these wonderful people, because if i've learned anything from this pandemic, it's that there is NEVER a wrong time to tell someone that they are simply ✨the best✨.

disclaimer: i don't interact with most of these people personally and i simply absorb their content from afar and scream about how wonderful they are in the tags.

This list kind of became a fic rec, so if you're looking for some wonderful fics to read (or reread), I've also included my favs from the author here as well.

Okay this is gonna get a little long so please bear with me. But I just wanted to preamble this by saying that the fanfiction written by the jatp fandom is what resparked my love for reading fiction after about 3-4 years of not reading for leisure (be an adult they said. it'll be fun they said.). So I'm really grateful for that? I don't interact with a lot of people, just because it makes me a little anxious, but I will constantly yell about your content in the tags as if I were on a set of bleachers with a megaphone.

I also know there are so many wonderful fic writers out there (on Tumblr and not on Tumblr) that make amazing pieces of work, and this is just a tiny peek into that, and is not at all conclusive.

Without further ado here are some writers who live rent free in my head, in alphabetical order, so feel free to just skip to your name to avoid my rambling:

@bluefirewrites -> your Merry Ex-Mas fic had me on the edge of my seat every single time you updated. I am so in love with how you wrote the characters into this and at how many words you churned out for this fic. This was filled with so much adventure, and it was really welcome during a time when the world wasn't allowed to travel. And I simply love all the other drabbles and fics you write, but I especially enjoy the hilarity of Ray Molina, Crime Scene Photographer and Matchmaker.

@captainkippen -> I'm pretty sure Love Drunk was one of the first fics I ever read in this fandom. Your stories and your writing feel so goddamn real and I find myself so immersed in the worlds that you've created. I have reread most of your jatp fics and I still manage to find myself stupidly grinning at my phone each time. Your stories flow so easily and are such perfect characterizations of the characters we know from the show, but elevated to fit into your verse. I cannot say enough how wonderful your writing is and how talented you are!! (also a slight nudge that I am still very much following along with The Key and the Crown and I hope you continue it!)

@catty-words -> Your???? Exhaustive??? Music??? Lists???? The amount of work and dedication and microanalyzing that you put into pulling out every detail from each scene is so admirable. You not only manage to find the details, but you also give us EVIDENCE via your intricately selected gifs. You could've just put the video of the performance, but no, you take your time to find that specific 1 second shot to emphasize your point. And your little fics that you sometimes throw out into the world? They're so beautiful, and so fun to read and I enjoy them so much! (I am STILL screaming about this band's a snack) Thank you for validating my yelling in the tags, and for feeding my hyperfixation to this show. (I'm sad these lists are ending soon, but it's about the journey ya know?)

@lydias--stiles -> I don't even know what to say here because I've yelled so much about your fics that I feel like there's really nothing else to yell. Your Road Trip AU was also one of the first ones I read in this fandom, and really just made me go absolutely feral. Pretty sure I absorbed the rest of your fics in an ungodly amount of time and I just simply think you are incredibly skilled and talented. Every time you post a new fic I always wonder what it's like to be in your head because the ideas you come up with are so unique and so well thought out. Thank you for all the art you create for this show, I will constantly be in awe of you. (Special shoutout to the 5+1 fic that became a 31 chapter monster)

@pearlcaddy -> This list would not be complete if I didn't mention you. First of all, thank you for suggesting this wonderful week, it has been so lovely to see so much love being spread around today. Secondly, I never thought I'd find myself reading a Buffy or a Wizarding World crossover fic, considering I know nothing about those two things. And yet I found myself on various nights after work at 3 in the morning just silently screaming and/or crying into my phone. Your writing is so insane. Your world building is so insane. Your banter/dialogue is insane. The way you capture the love between Julie/Luke in different universes is so perfect. Thank you for gifting us these beautiful pieces of art, and I hope you know that you have at least made one person (me) a very happy reader. I also really admire your dedication to "this will only be a oneshot", only to write like 4 other POVs for it. (Special shoutout to 100 Bad Days)

@ruzek-halstead -> Literally every single fic you have written lives rent free in my head. The way you've managed to build this universe of different Julies and Lukes, and each one still captures the essence of them is astounding. You've extended their characters beyond what we know from the show and I am just in awe of everything you write. Please know that dead of night is both triggering to me and yet the most hilarious thing I have read. (Special shoutout to the Fake Dating Christmas AU and of course the Cinderella Story AU)

@serendipitee -> Your stories and your writing are absolutely magical. I think Write It Down was one of the first multi-chapter fics that I followed super closely and whenever you updated, I would literally drop what I was doing and read it instantly. You have such a way of building the plot and the characters for all of your fics and drabbles, and making the reader just want more. Please know that I am so obsessed with Oh, She Waltzed With the Dead and I cannot wait to see where you take the story!

@sunsetcurbed -> I have no words for your writing. I am simply in awe every time I read something from you. The way you've got down Alex and Willie's voice to a tee is so crazy good. You write their characters and their stories with such grace and care, especially with how you approach the topic of mental health. Thank you for all the research you do and for also writing in your own experiences. I literally binged the Princes Diaries AU during work and lost a good half day to it, and I regret nothing because that fic left me in SHAMBLES. I secretly adore the way you say you're going to keep a fic short, and end up writing an insane amount of words for it. (I have not yet left my obligated long-ass comment on Chapter 4 of the College AU yet because I am still processing the fate/destiny concept.)

@tangledstarlight -> Gahh. Rosie. Please. This is going to sound a little repetitive considering I just screamed at you last night, but now I guess I will just have to publicly confess my adoration for you!!! Thank you for being my first online friend in a very long time, and for putting up with me yelling at you about everything (and also nothing at the same time). I can't believe all it took was one message about your Royals AU for you to post it, but I will gladly take that credit any day. You are so so so incredibly talented with your writing, and your ability to transport me to another world while I read your fics is unparalleled. I adore the way you can come up with a new story to write every day, and then proceed to throw it into your pot of other WIPs. I am so so so so lucky to have gotten to know you and am incredibly grateful that I now have someone to cry about everything with 🧡 (If you read anything from Rosie, you need to read her Seasons/Long Distance Juke "friendship" fic and the Reggie x Photography oneshot that made me bawl my eyes out.)

@thedeathdeelers -> No thoughts. Just soulmates. Jk jk, you know I love your Reggie x Ray x Carlos fics, and I will scream in the tags about it until the day I get more of those fics from you. This is lowkey a threat, but wrapped in kindness. You are so wonderful to see on my dash (albeit scary at times because of the sheer amount of headcanons and theories running through your head), but you radiate such positive energy that it's impossible to not want to jump in and scream about soulmates with you.

@unsaidjulie wrote the Juke dog fic of my dreams and I simply cannot express how much I want the Molina’s to have a dog now.

@pawprinterfanfic managed to get me incredibly invested in a Star Wars AU even though I know absolutely nothing about Star Wars. I just know that I would die for two (2) space boys.

@sanssssastark your Later universe made me realize that I do very much want there to be more mature content for this fandom (and you constantly deliver).

@theobligatedklutz wrote a Tangled Willex AU that makes me screech every time there’s an update. Just read it.

@alexthedrummerboy your talent knows no bounds when it comes to your Social Media AU. Also she’s written ORIGINAL songs for Alex and Willie?!?!?!

@gennified has this really wonderful modern take on pride and prejudice for Willex and I’m so obsessed with how much miscommunication there is.

@bananaleaves okay, I just found your Tumblr today, and I know you don’t know me in any capacity, but allow me to scream about THIS FIC RIGHT HERE. If anyone in this fandom is to read ANYTHING, it’s this fic. This was one of the best things I’ve read in a long time and absolutely wrecked me. Please just read this.

This turned out WAY longer than it was supposed to, and I’m SO SORRY. (I also tried to make sure I got everyone’s pronouns right, so PLEASE let me know if they’re wrong!) 5x12: Swap Meat

At a bar, a woman sits alone, enjoying her margarita, when one Sam Fucking Winchester wanders over and asks the barkeep ---NOT at all awkwardly--for a banana daiquiri. He’s either deep undercover or something is seriously hinky. There’s a lot of sugar in banana daiquiris, Sam. Crystal introduces herself and Sam introduces himself as Gary! She then propositions him, much to his cluelessness.

The poor dumb boy puts it together and “would love to have the sex with [her].” We then pan over to see Sam REALLY isn’t Sam at all.

Housatonic, Massachusetts

36 Hours Earlier

Sam and Dean visit Donna, an old babysitter --well, she was a maid at a motel they’d stay at while John went hunting. She looked out for them. It seems that her family house has a poltergeist problem. Bumps and broken items have led to the thing attacking their daughter, Katie.

Katie lifts her shirt to reveal “Murderd Chylde” carved into her abdomen. I'd get some serious vaseline on those wounds if you don’t want scarring, Katie. Yeesh. Sam and Dean tell the family to skedaddle while they take care of things.

They stop at a diner for food next. Dean picks up their order from the counter from Banana Daiquiri Gary! He’s not impressed with Sam’s salad shake, and neither is Dean (but when is he ever?)

They talk about Donna and how she’s got a good thing going. Dean asks Sam if he’d want to settle down at all and have a family, and Sam answers, “no.” Dean looks contemplative about it.

Sam finds lore on the house. A Samuel Pickett owned the house in the 1700s and hung a woman, Maggie Briggs, there for witchcraft. As the brothers talk, we watch Gary hyperfixate on Sam.

Sam goes to check out the town’s archives for where Maggie Briggs was buried. As he’s walking back to the motel, he hears a noise and then gets shot in the neck with a dart. Lights out, Sammy.

He comes to later, wearing Gary’s work uniform. He starts walking but the cops pick him up claiming his family is worried about him. “My brother called you?” Sam asks, incredulous.

No. The cops take him to a suburban house where a worried couple pops out and hugs Sam in relief. He asks who they are and in return they want to know if he’s drunk.

They keep calling him Gary. It’s then that Sam looks in the window of the cop car --and sees his reflection. He looks like Gary!

Meanwhile, Gary is checking out his hot new bod. Dean shows up and wonders where he’s been. Gary placates him with food. He also tells Dean that the maid saw all their weapons and they better get out of there. While Dean uses the restroom, Gary gets rid of all Dean’s phones.

THEN he has the NERVE to ask to drive. He doesn’t get far. And quite frankly, Dean’s spidey sense should be spiking through the ceiling at this point.

Sam keeps trying to reach his brother, with no luck. He calls the motel to learn that the two dudes in room 102 left in the middle of the night. So, Sam starts digging through Gary’s stuff and discovers items of witchcraft. Before he can dig too much further though, he’s called to the family breakfast.

His “dad” starts grilling him about getting drunk the night before. Sam’s got better things to worry about than placating some dude he doesn’t know. He also needs to learn more about Gary, so he starts interviewing the family about what they've noticed in him lately.

The dad wants to know if Sam’s “smoking drugs”. Sam then asks if they’ve ever seen him with a black book recently. His sister, Sydney, reacts to that question. The mom reacts to him eating toast --his allergy to wheat gluten!!

Sydney later reveals to Sam that there IS a book.

Gary and Dean are still working the case. Dean informs Gary that they have to search graves for Maggie’s body. Nerd of Nerd’s Gary knows exactly where Maggie Briggs is buried: Isiah Pickett’s basement. He also reveals that he murdered her and her unborn child before burying them in the basement. Dean connects the ‘murderd chylde’ clue.

Once in the car, Bob Seger starts blasting, and Gary tells Dean to turn it up.

Sam continues to leave messages for Dean. He ALSO has to navigate the tortures of high school again. Sam meets two of Gary’s friends and asks where his locker is (he’s still drunk, after all).

For This is a Look TM Science:

(And let’s pause for a moment to enjoy Sam’s striped hoodie. Definitely one of the top 5 wardrobe choices on this show.)

He finds the book in the back of Gary’s locker.

Gary and Dean find the grave in the basement of the Pickett house. Dean gets to digging while Gary aims his gun at Dean. Before he can shoot, the ghost comes out to play. It starts beating up the both of them but Gary’s able to burn the bones.

Gary’s extremely nosy friends follow Sam out of the school. While it looks like we’re gearing up for some good ol’ Ferris Bueller shenanigans, Trevor shoots Sam in the throat (GAH) with a sedative dart.

Meanwhile, at a bar, Dean orders a burger with extra bacon and a fried egg on top. Excuse me...I need to go eat an entire branchbouquet of kale in retaliation. Mysteriously, Sam orders the same thing. “Who are you and what have you done with my brother?” Dean asks. But it’s just a lighthearted comment and they raise a toast to a successful hunt.

Gary’s over the moon overabout the day he just had. His joy makes Dean suspicious the way nothing else has. Oh, you sweet sad sunflowers. Gary lays out Sam Winchester’s happiness list: 1) gun 2) getting drunk 3) looks like Sam Winchester.

“You ever feel like your whole future is being decided for you?” Gary asks. OH YES, Dean tells him. I forget for a minute that I’m watching a season 5 episode as the Dean-Winchester-feels-trapped-in-the-narrative-sorrow threatens to overwhelm me. But there areis no time for FEELINGS when the narrative must go on! Cut to later in the night, when Gary gets picked up by the woman in the bar from the cold open. Dean puts his thinking face on while Gary ecstatically leaves the bar.

Back at Kid Kidnapperz clubhouse, Sam’s tied up. Trevor calls Gary and asks him if he’s killed Dean yet. “I’m working up to it,” Gary replies while sitting shirtless under a leopard print bedspread in the cougar’s lair. (Just...no on SO MANY LEVELS.) Sam listens to this with great alarm.

Sam demands to know how these rando teenagers know Dean. “Everybody knows Dean. He’s Hell’s most wanted,” Trevor retorts. Sam puts two and two together and comes up with a coupla dumb kids who took a deep dive into witchcraft and started talking to demons.

“You’re just kids,” Sam laments. Trevor and Nora fill in more blanks. They were messing around with a Moste Dark Booke of Witchcraftery, as one does, and suddenly Gary went into a trance and drew a fairly decent picture of Dean. Gary also heard a voice - it was setting a bounty on Dean’s head, and apparently broadcast through the witch trance network.

That night, Gary creeps into the motel room and grabs Dean’s gun up from a nearby chair. He cocks the pistol. . He aims it at the shape under the covers...and Dean grabs him from behind and demands to know who he really is. (Silly Gary, Dean stopped sleeping under covers after he got back from Hell.)

Back in Trevor’s basement, he finishes the demon summoning. Nora looks up with black eyes.

She’s very interested to learn that they’ve got Dean Winchester in their sights. Trevor tells her where Dean is immediately. She absorbs this and swings her attention to Sam. She realizes it’s Sam “Boy King of Hell” Winchester sitting there and is suddenly VERY interested. Trevor asks her where his reward is, and when he pushes for it she first taunts, then kills him. (All the while Sam is in the background GRINDING HIS TEETH.)

Gary weeps, tied up in the motel room while Dean listens to voicemail after voicemail from Sam. Gary babbles about Sam’s whereabouts but it’s too late. Demon!Nora saunters in and lobs Dean across the room. Wherps. She offers Gary a powerful future but first he’s got to meet “the boss.” All he has to do is say “Yes” and they can have a nice chat together! Very sneaky! Dean attacks her while she’s cooking up her big plan and then Gary and Dean tag team an exorcism, freeing Nora of the demon. Later, Gary performs the incantation to swap bodies with Sam again. (I shake my head yet again that THIS is the ONLY body swap episode we got in the whole fifteen season run. What a goddamn waste of comedy potential.

With Sam restored to normal (or as normal as a Winchester can get), Dean confronts Gary. He tells him that if he were just a little older, he’d be dead right now. With those comforting parting words, they bring Gary and Nora back to their lives. Sam tells Gary to quit his whining about his life. It’s possible to rebel in a “healthy, non-satanic way.” Furthermore, he tells Gary that he wishes he had his life. Once the kids are out of earshot, Dean comments on Sam’s kind words. “Totally lied. Kid’s life sucked ass.” The apple-pie family crap is stressful, Sam decides.

Maybe they just don’t know what they’re missing, Dean rejoins, and I calmly tie an anvil around my ankle and drop it off a cliff into a dramatically large canyon.

They head out into the rainy night...to fight another day!

Several hundred words of Half-Life Borrower!AU goodness

(Hi, this is Passportinspection!) Oooh goodness. I actually started writing this as an ask. I really thought what I had to say would fit into an ask. Since sending that anon about having 350 words of thoughts, I ended up getting distracted for a few hours, and then when I came back to this, I apparently had 400 more words to say. I just love rambling what-ifs about AUs. :’>

Hi Passportinspection! Sorry it took so long to reply to this. I had more work than I thought yesterday. >__< I totally agree! Rambling about what-ifs is WAY more fun than actually writing a story. ;;>__> _

These are… not all A-list ideas, and I was very tempted to cut it down to the best bits, BUT I know that if someone said to me “I had 5 ideas for your au but only told you the 2 good ones” I would be extremely interested in hearing the 3 bad ones anyway, so… here it all is. This was written pretty stream-of-consciousness and then rearranged a bit to form my pinballing thoughts into something a little more linear, but, fair warning, it wasn’t edited much beyond that.

_ Ooo, I absolutely want to hear everything! All ideas, good and bad! Are you kidding? (Gets comfy) _

I keep thinking about the end of that “gordon takes borrower!barney with him through the events of HL1” scenario; Imagining gman’s speech at the end, I like the idea of him saying something like, “As for your.. /passenger/..” and both of their bloods running cold. I can’t decide if I’d rather barney actually go into stasis with gordon or not I think it could be an interesting/cute concept- the idea that gman/his employers figured barney was enough of a factor in gordon’s success that they thought it would be wise to keep them together for future “assignments.”

_ Bro I'll be honest, I hadn't gotten that far in the AU because I still haven't finished the game. My only reference for G-man is Mr. Coolatta. So I'll have to at least look the ending up on youtube before I'll be able to give my informed opinion. But taking it as is? That would be freaking terrifying. They've met some other scientists and security guards during their escape, but the HEV helmet was a perfect hiding place. None of them ever noticed that Gordon wasn't alone. But somehow this reality bending creep knows, and it looks like he's not going to let Barney and Gordon just go home, which was basically what they were fighting for the whole time. _

I’m also thinking about, like.. With Barney in Gordon’s helmet with him, Gordon must be able to feel him tense up and hear his breathing speed up whenever something particularly scary/dangerous happens, maybe even at times faintly feel the fluttering of his heart, and it strengthens his resolve to make it out of there bc it’s not just himself he’s saving. 🥺 Also Barney can provide running commentary, which perhaps soothes both of their nerves a little. Maybe he even helps with some puzzles. :> I also think it’s funny/convenient that that would work really well for an actual video game format. A friend that’s with you wherever you go that sees everything you see but can’t interact with the world but provides commentary and occasional helpful tips? That fits in nicely!

_ Ha! Something I was thinking about was how Barney has spent his whole life living in the vents and such. He would probably be a perfect guide for Gordon. :3 As for Gordon feeling when Barney gets tense or scared and that fuling his drive to escape, that was ABSOLUTELY one of the reasons I wanted Barney in the helmet. It would be uncomfortable, inconvenient, and down right dangerous sometimes. But you cannot deny the unique opportunities for deeper emotional exploration it would present. _

…But also, now that I think about it, maybe there are parts where the only way forward is for Barney to slip through a crack in a blockaded doorway and use a control panel that opens another door- that sort of thing. He gets to help with more than just talking sometimes! :> Oh, dang, imagine the part where gordon gets jumped and almost killed by the military. Poor Barney. D: Maybe a factor in Gordon escaping the trash compactor before it crushes him is Barney frantically trying to wake him up.

_ I was defo hyperfixating on what the whole beat down would be like from Barney's perspective a few days ago! Gordon would be at an extra disadvantage in the fight because he'd have to be careful not to accidentally bash Barney between his skull and the helmet while he's being smacked around. Imagine Barney being tossed all over the small space, maybe ending up pinned when Gordon finally passes out. Noticing when a small stream of blood starts leaking from his friends mouth and soaking into his clothes. Gordon is completely helpless, and so is Barney as he hears the soldiers talking about what they're going to do with the body. I just think that whole scene and the escape from the trash compactor would be so fun and exciting~ -

Also, unrelated, but I wonder how barney would wake up in city 17, if he did go into stasis with gordon. That is, since gordon is wearing a citizen outfit when he comes out of stasis, barney obviously can’t be in the helmet anymore. Maybe gman elects to move barney to a pocket somewhere instead lol. I’m imagining as soon as gordon is released from whatever effect gman had him under and he’s able to move again, he starts patting himself down looking for Barney (the same way one does when they forget which pocket their phone is in ), bc last he knew Barney was right up against his face and now he’s /not/, and that man SAID they’d be “hired” as a team so /where is he/ because Gordon needs to know he’s /okay/. As Barney is released from the same effect, he probably moves and makes himself apparent, so it’s only for like a second that Gordon is doing that.

_ Once again, I can't speak much to what would happen in a HL2 continuation of this story, but that sounds about right for an initial reaction scene. Imagine Barney just coming out of it and being in some sort of... bag? being jostled around? He feels a giant hand pat over him from outside and he grunts in surprise. Then the hand rests against him and Barney realizes he's in a humans breast pocket, being held against someones chest as beside him a thundering heart slowly begins to calm. He figures this must be Gordon. He doesn't KNOW any other humans, and he can't imagine that man in the suit would be all that concerned about Barney's wellbeing. _

Barney doesn’t know where they are/who else is out there at all ‘cause he can’t see from where he is, and Gordon can feel him shifting to lean out of the pocket and get a look, and he just puts a hand over the pocket, covering the opening in the process, and applies a gentle pressure for a couple moments, and Barney knows that means he needs to stay put because it’s not safe to come out yet. Thankfully Barney heard Gman talking to Gordon and addressing him by name, so he doesn’t have to worry about whose pocket he just woke up in. He would probably somewhat recognize Gordon’s gait/the feel of his hands at that point, too. As for how Gordon avoids boarding the train to Nova Prospekt without canon barney there to stop him, I have no idea.

_ YEAAAH that is a good point. Barney is kind of vital for that role. Maybe we can slot a different character into his place. ^__^;; _

Oooh, going back a bit, maybe when the nihilanth is teleporting gordon around in the boss level, or from the very beginning when gordon jumps into the portal to Xen, they get teleported separately and end up in different places? (Ignoring for a moment the parts with portals in Black Mesa ^^;) That sure is an additional level of distress for the both of them during the Big Final Level(s). And then perhaps at the end, part of gman’s speech can be like, “As for your.. companion, you can rest assured he was recovered safe and sssound. After all, you two performed so well, together, it would be ideal to hire you as, a team.” Or whatever

_ Imagine Barney, stranded and alone on Xen, desperately trying to find Gordon, and having his OWN creepy G-man encounter. :U _

Our Barney AUs differ in some exciting ways and it’s fun to play in someone else’s sandbox for a while. :p I’ll probably cut my notes doc down into something readable and post it sometime in the near-ish future.. Either that or actually write the dang fic.

Stranger Things future headcanons

My Stranger Things hyperfixation is Strong rn so I’ve slowly been piling up all my future headcanons into this way-too-long monstrosity ✌️

– Hopper and Joyce get married in 1987 and basically live happily ever after

– They get together pretty much as soon as they’re reunited – as the cabin has been destroyed beyond repair and Joyce wants to move back to Hawkins, Hopper and El end up staying at their new house in what’s supposed to be a temporary arrangement but becomes permanent pretty fast

– Hopper struggles a lot post Russia but with the support of Joyce and the kids he gets through it

– Murray is his best man

– El waits a year to go to college and then moves in with Mike when she’s in her second year and he’s in his third. They don’t go to the same college but they get a place close enough that they can both commute to their respective campuses

– They also get a cat named Leia and both get jobs to earn a bit of extra money considering they’re still students – El works at a local library and Mike works in a coffee shop

– Max and El are roommates in their first year of college (Max took a gap year) and Max moves into the apartment opposite Mike and El’s

– Lucas and Max are basically the Ross and Rachel to Mike and El’s Chandler and Monica, they have constant on again off again drama for years until they finally get together and stay together when they’re a little older

– Will goes to art college in New York, while Dustin also goes further afield to study communications, but they keep in touch with the others as much as they can

– Having already had their first concert experiences back in ‘87 with Madonna’s Who’s That Girl Tour, El and Max go to the Blonde Ambition tour together and have the best time

– The gang also all go and see Nirvana together because the image of them all huddled together jumping up and down to Smells Like Teen Spirit is too precious

– Mike proposes to El on a quiet Sunday morning in their apartment – he makes her Eggos on a special plate that says “marry me?” on it

– They find out there’s a clearing in Mirkwood that’s become popular for weddings and they have their ceremony there, on the 7th November 1994, 11 years after they first met. Literally everyone sobs.

– Once she graduates El continues working at the library while she works to get a master’s degree to become a therapist. In the year following whatever’s going to happen in season 4, with the help of Doctor Owens she started going to therapy and it helped her so much that she eventually realised she wanted to help people that way – and with a heck of a lot of hard work, she succeeds!

– Mike studies literature and eventually becomes a high school English teacher, with an ambition to become a writer someday. He stays that way for 6 years, until him and El start having kids and he decides to become a stay at home dad, especially because El earns more than he does so financially it makes more sense for him to take time out of work, plus he really wants to be a more active dad than his own father. While he’s at home with the kids, he writes his first full fantasy novel, which eventually becomes a massive success and allows him to fully launch his writing career in the way that he always wanted.

– Mike and El have 3 kids – Lily (b. 1998), Ryan (b. 2000) and Emma (b. 2004). All 3 kids inherit El’s powers and they work incredibly hard to make sure that a. The kids are raised to keep it concealed and that b. They never experience the pain and fear that El suffered.

– Nancy and Jonathan become a highly success journalist – photojournalist team, eventually getting married and having 2 kids after a few years of travelling the world, Jason (b. 1997) and Clare (b. 2001)

– Steve and Robin remain lifelong friends – they end up working together when they’re older, because he eventually becomes a gym teacher and she becomes a language teacher

– Because I’m basically projecting Ross and Rachel onto them, while they’re on again and off again Max and Lucas end up with an unintended pregnancy, which Max discovers at Mike and El’s wedding – their son Ethan is born in 1995 and they’re great co parents even before they properly get back together

– While Lucas becomes an aerospace engineer, Max becomes a skateboarding instructor and eventually starts her own skate school

– They finally get together permanently in 1999 and never look back, eventually getting married in 2002 and having a second child, Marcus, a year later

– Will comes out to everyone at the end of his first year – he becomes a comic book illustrator and ends up with a comic book writer named Chris Cole. They get a civil union in 2000 and then get married as soon as they can and they adopt twin babies named Matt and Emily in 2005

– Dustin does something techy with computers for a while but him and his wife Demi get a farm out of nowhere (I just love the idea of Dustin’s life taking a completely random direction and everyone being shocked ok) – they say that their animals are like their children

– In 2007 at a party reunion Lily, Marcus, Ryan and Emma put on a truly epic performance of the first two high school musical soundtracks, with Ethan, Matt, Emily and all the adults as their audience

– The party eventually get a group chat that they post in constantly

– Once a year they also all get back together in person specifically to play a big game of D & D (they do it over zoom in 2020 and are planning to do the same this year)

– Leia passes away in 2006 and a year later the Wheelers get a labradoodle named Chewie

– Max and El get a podcast together. I don’t know what the heck they talk about, but they have a podcast. Their children are highly embarrassed by this but they don’t care at all.

– When El first moved out to go to college just over 30 years ago, she promised to phone Hopper every Sunday – they call each other every Sunday afternoon to this day and when lockdown started it became a FaceTime with the whole family.

🎥 do you have any favorite scenes from your hyperfixation?

one of my favorite scenes from the first one is when herbert and dan fight rufus in the basement. the swinging light was such a sick choice and the sound design/acting with the rufus puppet makes it so frantic and suspenseful!!

💕 tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them!

the titular bride of reanimator!!! gloria my beloved!!!!! she's such a tragic character and I wish she got more screentime. she's very much a return to the frankenstein influence with her similarities to the original creature: someone stitched together from parts who shoulders their creator's high expectations of a person before they're even born!!! neither creator is prepared to accept them as a full person with their own desires and agency and just forces them into a box (the "perfect human" or "perfect lover") then immediately rejects them for not meeting those unrealistic expectations. their violence and anger are results of being born into a world unprepared to accept them. this aspect of their characters also makes them kinda trans-coded to me as well.

on a thematic sense I interpret her as a sort of twisted telephone game of what herbert assumes dan would like in a woman. we've joked about it in the necroprancer fan club (reanimator) server a lot, with herbert panicking: "what women do men like?? ballerinas??? virgins?? LAWYERS??" she's also the deviant yet more desired counterpart to francesca, as francesca is an emotional replacement for meg but gloria is the literal physical replacement with meg's heart!! there's also the subtext of her being the allegorical "marriage-saving child" for herbert and dan. love divorce-coded mad science experiments! all of these expectations are so much for her to bear and I wish she could be allowed to exist as an independent person, but I think her tearing herself apart is still a fitting ending.

I could talk about this for a million years, mad scientists' creations make me cryyyy

💔 tell us about one of your LEAST favorite characters and why you dislike them.

I don't like lieutenant chapman from bride at all. apart from textually being an abuser cop, I don't think he added much to the movie. the acting also felt kinda weird, I feel like he was doing a sort of deadpan performance for most of it, I guess to make him a sort of dr. hill 2? it didn't work for me. I know he acts as an external force acting on dan and herbert to make their lives and building gloria harder, but I feel like he and hill coming back just filled very similar roles and took away time that could be used for better character/main story development. I don't really know why they felt the need to add one villain let alone TWO to bride when they could have had a more compelling story if they just focused on the characters' relationships!

🏳️‍🌈 do you have any headcanons (lgbt, race, neuro, etc) that are important to you?

ohohohoho!!!!! yes! my strongest and most self-projecting hc is herbert being gay and trans because. just look at him. he's also very adhd/autistic to me and I relate to how he approaches social situations and his interests a lot!!

💎 are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?

yes! I'm sorry if you've ever watched either movie with me because I can't stop reciting the trivia. I'll give you a few facts:

• during the shovel scene, the second time herbert stabs hill with the shovel you can clearly see someone using a cup to throw blood on him from the bottom right

• there was originally a subplot where dr. hill could hypnotize people, and though the explanation was cut he seems to hypnotize herbert, meg, dean halsey, and all the morgue zombies anyway

• in the scene where herbert kills the first morgue zombie (played by arnold schwarzenegger's stunt double) with a bone saw, the effect was done by positioning the actor's head above a fake chest and putting hamburger meat on the emerging saw

📌 how did you find your hyperfixation?

at the beginning of june a few of my friends were getting into it and it seemed right up my alley!! I was also getting into 80s horror as a whole at that time and had just watched the evil dead so I needed more buckets-of-blood popular-with-gays weirdass movies

PrimaFestival - a thing that runs for twenty minutes directly before the show starts. it's like Juicy Gossip stuff or whatever. not particularly interesting, unless you like social media statistics, like I do

70 anni di festival - translates to "70 years of [sanremo] festival". no idea what's here.

so! first of all, I have my Faves, and I'm Italian, so I'm gonna be opinionated and tell you to watch everything by my faves JFJDFJF. You can find Maneskin, the rock band who won, under Campioni! They perform the same song every night, as every contestant does, except for the third night, which is when everyone did a cover. all their outfits are very gender, they have amazing stage presence, I love them, and they're somehow all around 20 years old which is so young. then there's Madame, still in Campioni, who I think is bisexual (?), but even if she's not she serves some very Sapphic looking looks at least. another contestant I really liked was La Rappresentante Di Lista, and her outfit on her final night is absolutely stunning, and her cover was a 1979 pop BANGER about loving the way she looks.

a little less gender, but two contestants I love nonetheless, are Max Gazzè and Extraliscio. they just sung such Funky Music and had such Good Vibes that I couldn't not mention them. Extraliscio's vibes especially are Off The Charts Chaotic. they're amazing

under Ospiti i suggest you check out the video titled 'Fiorello, Laura Pausini, Amadeus'. it is So funny and it's where we got the best gif of Amadeus dancing

under Lo show dell'Ariston, the Most important thing is to watch literally everything with 'Achille Lauro' in the title. maximum gender. gender overload. if you don't have time for all of them, my favorite is "Il quadro punk rock di Achille Lauro con Fiorello". revolutionary. if you do have time for all of them, content warning for "c'est la vie": there's some gore. towards the end, Achille Lauro opens his shirt to reveal a rose in his stomach. it's fake, but it looks pretty convincing, and I was kind of nauseated.

other than Achille Lauro, there's a lot of Fiorello and Amadeus here. it's glorious. I missed a lot of the first night so I can't point you with precision to the many homosexual moments they shared there, but I can tell you to check out any of the following in whatever order you'd like:

Fiorello interpreta 'Grazie dei Fiori' (Fiorello in elaborate costume)

Fiorello canta 'Se stasera sono qui'

Fiorello e Amadeus cantano 'Love in Sanremo'

"Rosario Salerno" e "Amedeo Squillo" in 'Siamo donne'

that's where I can guarantee some Gay, but, anything with Fiorello, or both Fiorello and Amedeus in the title, probably has some homosexuality. Fiorello in elaborate costumes is very gender.

A lot of Amadello Moments are in Words, which are in Italian, and therefore hard for me to recommend to someone who doesn't speak the language, but they do share some Looks that don't require knowledge of any language.

I think that's all? this year was Very Camp, so every contestant served LOOKS, so I honestly would recommend skimming through the videos just for those, if you're interested.
