one of the reasons lithuania and Romano are able to get on so well is that family is deeply important to roma. He's not gonna just let lithuania ignore their family to be with him, as their other partners have done. I think maybe lithuania struggles with having multiple close relationships at once, because they tend to put all of their energy into whatever is happening at the moment and can sort of deify their partner (not always in a good way mind you) but Romano doesn't vibe with that as much as, like, poland or someone would

(a few) Romaliet Headcanons!

I’ve found yet another person to ship Lithuania with :)

Will be borrowing @urmomsstuntdouble‘s very good headcanon of nonbinary he/they Liet; probs won’t touch on their gender here but if it’s offensive/stereotypical in any way please tell me :)

—General vibes are sorta.. really wholesome? I feel like the warming-up period before they grow feelings is very long and a little bit rocky (slow burn babey), but after that I feel like they’d compliment each other really well: especially pushing each other to love in a more stable/calm way than perhaps some previous relationships. Both of them have sorta guilt/inferiority complexes but they help each other get out of that because they’re extremely generous to everyone but themselves. Romano adamantly insists Lithuania deserves better than some people in his life (ig toxic friends and such but includes himself on days when his self confidence is low though :( ) and Lithuania helps Romano take care of himself better. Just two people helping each other grow, and finding happiness along the way.

— They bake and cook together a lot. I think Lithuania loves cooking, and while Romano might not /love/ doing stuff in the kitchen, he’s certainly good at it, and it’s quality time you know? They try each other’s recipes a lot :) Surprisingly they don’t do much fusion cuisine—they don’t really care about being fancy and whipping up some sort of new and brilliant hybrid dish (although it would be brilliant), and it’s more just the experience of eating with their partner. Also Liet gives Romano chicken soup when he’s ill; Romano grumpily accepts it because Lithuania’s food is undeniably good.

— Not a lot of PDA. Mostly they both get pretty embarrassed when in public so it’s limited to occasional and brief hand holding and brushes of bare arms. In private they cuddle quite a lot—Romano insists being the big spoon and it’s just a tangle of legs and a pair of chests rising and falling in time with each other. Also Romano gives Lithuania soft hugs from behind when they are doing the dishes—he always gives Liet a heads up tho to make sure they’re comfortable with it.

— They give me small farm/cottagecore vibes. Romano loves chickens because they’re fluffy and have attitudes and Liet tends the garden where he grows vegetables and flowers. They also have a small patch of untamed wildflowers in their garden—in summer they pluck a few and weave it into flower crowns for Romano (and a couple for themself too).

— Lithuania is a little bit of a huge brain intellectually and sometimes Romano wonders how they managed to fall in love with him. Lithuania can always come up with something unbelievably cheesy but also extremely true to settle Romano’s worry.

— Also Romano has tried (once) to carry Liet to the couch or bedroom when they’ve accidentally fallen asleep on his shoulder; it did not work because he was both super nervous and naturally not v good at carrying people... let’s just say Lithuania got woken up because they were sorta dropped on the floor.

like guys they're so good. Lithuania is just such a stable force, and they're so grounding for Romano. They never lie so he feels like he can trust them, and they don't really get it when he's being sarcastic which is annoying bc that's his native tongue but they're so cute when they're confused, and they reallt just want the best for everyone...And roma's so loud and dramatic and at first this is kinda scary but then when Romano sticks up for them? Always makes sure theyre eating? Tries to break their self destructive workaholic tendencies by seducing them into a nap? Liets never felt so loved and they're just fuckin head over heels for roma

best quality: idk, I like how in canon, he basically goes “fuck off” to everyone except women. Respect women juice.

worst quality: lowest self esteem I’ve seen in hetalia (but it’s very interesting to explore and it’s one of the things I like most about his character). The quality I actually hate is how much screen time he spends with Spain, but that’s not really part of his character so it doesn’t count much.

ship them with: Lithuania (thanks to @urmomsstuntdouble for converting me). I’m neutral on most pairings with him; romaliet is the only one I’m invested in.

brotp them with: his brother, they have a weird dysfunctional dynamic too but idk I think they also have some sweet moments

needs to stay away from: I’m not sure but probably Spain because their relationship feels kinda toxic sometimes, although I haven’t dug into it much. Besides that, he should probably swear less but I’m not really one to judge.

misc. thoughts: he’s cool! I think his self esteem, inner monologue, feelings about his identity, self worth, and who he’s closest to is really interesting to explore; I just don’t know enough about Italian history to be able to say anything conclusive about it. Also a lot of the time, wherever Romano is in a fic, Spain and Prussia are usually there too and dslkfjs I don’t really care about them so I end up not reading oop

where do I even start with you... there is so much big brained stuff in your blog!! Your writing.... it is absolutely immaculate and snippets from so many pieces have stayed with me (most especially your cumano drabble, the China study, and the itabros reunification). Also 1836,,, and your Romaliet stuff in general is so good (the fic with them at a world meeting... YES the vibes of their relationship were so strong and on point there)! Also your headcanons about all the characters are ridiculously good and they all have things that I never thought about but fit the character in question perfectly! It's just. *chef’s kiss*. You leave so many nice thoughts on other creator’s stuff too it’s always so sweet and encouraging! ghksdljf there is so much stuff that's ridiculously thought out, especially those character asks you did a while back (particularly thinking about the one with America, where you captured many key parts of his character very well) and your tag essays are legendary, they always give me something new to chew on and 100% add to the original post, whether hetalia or not. You're just incredibly kind and your takes are so good, and I've never been unamazed by any of the answers you've given to my asks. Also I think your blog has been like. the hub for some very funny stuff (the Ridiculous math debate!) and I love the way you give people a nice space to talk with you and others!
