I suspect some guerrilla gardening has resulted in these Colchicum autumnale (meadow saffron, autumn crocus, fog crocus, meadow crocus, Michaelmas crocus, upstart) flowering by the roadside. This is a cormous herbaceous perennial which flowers in the autumn and the large leaves will appear in the spring.

Crocus cultivars and Galanthus woronowii (green snowdrop, Woronow's snowdrop) are flowering in a small meadow. The snowdrop is native to north-east Turkey and the Caucasus and has distinctive glossy, fresh green leaves.

In autumn the flowers of Colchicum species and cultivars (meadow crocus, autumn crocus) emerge from the soil. The foliage of these cormous herbaceous perennials appear in the early spring. Be aware that all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested and may cause skin irritation.
