Welcome, everyone, to Unions In College: Targaryen edition! That's right, all my fears about the distant cousin dating situation are about to come true and as a sign of things to come, I originally started this update last weekend and then got food poisoning in the middle of it. We've finally reached the point where the Unions are making me actually vomit and not metaphorically! Because of the new pic limit, this is part 1 of the update and I'll post part 2 right after.

We have arrived at La Fiesta and everyone looks simply amazing, especially Barth in his cowboy look. As Felina and Meadow (Fedow??) immediately reconnect, we are greeted by some #MajorDormieDrama:

Cousins aren't the only thing we brought to college with us, as someone also brought over this FUCKING COLD that's been ravaging the neighborhood this entire generation.

I've been tracing this thing and I'm pretty sure it originated in Claire's household where fucking Wilfred came home from work sick and he passed it to Spice, then Spice came over to visit his bum dad Sugar, passed it to the main house, then Sunset came over from school with Barth, got it from the main house and passed it to the June/Julian/Blue Meatballs/Stacy household who then passed it to Daniel's household. So basically the only unaffected house is Gunther and Melody! That's why never seeing your kids is the right call.

We spend our first night skilling as everyone this generation is a complete moron with no skill points. I had both Barth and Felina choose the psychology major as I feel they will need those skills (for vastly different reasons) given their LTW's and Barth wastes no time putting his new charisma skill point to good use!

If Grunts saw flowers from the players world they’d freak out because what are those and why do they smell good and why are they so colorful

I think a lot of plants would garner that reaction. Especially since the only ones that actually remember the sunlight and how Nevada USED to look like would be the Gen 1's and early Gen 2's. Deimos would be the only one that would find everything new and enthralling while Hank is reminded of the world of before. Depending on who is looking at the foliage, they will either feel a sense of wonder or a sense of nostalgia. As for the sheer amount of flowers, you take these bois to a meadow or a flower shop and they stare for minutes at a time at all of the living plantlife. Sniffing, licking, probably eating all of them in curiosity. Trees of various types, bushes of all backgrounds, and the amount of times all the nature changes...the Player's world is fascinating and the grunts seem to find all of the life so alien compared to their own world. They like them for the most part... Until they run into poison ivy, oak, or thorny bushes. Then they understand that not ALL plant life is safe and fit for traveling through. Poor Deimos gets stuck with a bad rash after romping around through some poison oak. XD

Humble Beginnings.

We start the story in Henford-On-Bagley, in Fall, with Coral. Simon Scott decided to visit, and ended up asking to stay over, Coral let him stay (despite the shitty living situation), they also hit it off. Sometime later I (not coral) found out his wife, Sara, was PREGNANT… 

They start dating (he's married btw!!! 😐), but during dinner one night, Sara finds out about the two, they both get chewed out. The next day, Simon "apologized" to Coral in a very intimate way.

Later on, Simon tells her that Sara and him got divorced, Coral proposes to him later that night. Since the proposal, he’d become silent, but one day, he asked her out on a date, the date goes poorly, they're both distant, and a man catches Coral's eye, she was drawn to this man, Simon tries to get her back, fails and leaves, the man, Don, and Coral go back to her place to tango. Coral turns out to be pregnant. 

She has a discussion with Don abt the baby, and in the end, she decides to keep the baby, she’s still engaged atp. she gives birth to a girl, the heir, named Cataleya.

Coral finally decides to tell Simon what’s going on, Simon was enraged, but offered her a second chance, she didn’t take it.

(A.N) I left my game unpaused when I went to make dinner and i came back to Coral being pregnant.

Love fest comes around and Don takes Coral to the festival, after a ton of damning signs, he proposes to her (and also swaps traits, Non-committal to Loyal).

Don realizes how much he loves being a father, Coral gives birth to triplets, Peregrine, Constance and Emmett, and while taking care of the newborns, Don has another self-discovery (became Family-oriented)

Coral begins a sub-plot where she tackles her self-esteem issues, specifically on how she's gained weight from all her pregnancies.

In the meantime, the triplets age up, Coral argues with Don about wanting attention, how they still haven’t gotten married, however he didn’t retaliate because he didn’t want Cataleya hearing them argue, and then Cataleya aged up.

(I changed the lifespan to normal at this point)

Coral finally loses enough weight to be happy with herself, but she wonders if she’s actually doing this for herself or for someone else…

The triplets age up to toddlers!

Don and Coral have an argument, they sit in silence for 10 minutes, then Don tells her what she needs to change about herself, and she reluctantly agrees

Cataleya ages up to a child- And Coral ended up pregnant AGAIN (don't remember/know how it happened)

Although she’s two pregnancies and four kids late, she finally goes to counseling for this unwanted pregnancy. She also decides to get her tubes tied.

The last gen 2 baby is born, Callum Meadows, who turns out to be an Albino.

Don and Coral finally get married (Don also invited Simon to the wedding 👀)

Peregrine begins his sub-plot where he fears failure and wants to be like his sisters, he starts locking himself in his room and doing homework and extra-credit work as much/often as possible. 

Coral and Don FINALLY age up to Adults, and Cataleya ages up to a teen.

Later on, Callum ages up to a child (I stopped caring about this kid when he aged up to an infant, so from here on, don’t expect much abt him at all)

aka what the hell is a dorlene

Some stats focusing exclusively on the 15 ships between the six characters Alice Longbottom, Dorcas Meadowes, Emmeline Vance, Lily Evans Potter, Marlene McKinnon, and Mary Macdonald -- namely all the female characters that appeared in the Order of the Phoenix photo taken in summer 1981 (the former 5) or canonically known to have been in Gryffindor House at the same time as the Marauders (last).

Omission of Pandora Lovegood, Amelia Bones, Black sisters and Hogwarts faculty (incl. Sybil Trelawney) was intentional, but other thoughts/suggestions welcome!

the first question I was interested in looking at: just how overrepresented in Marauders femslash shipping are Dorlene and Marylily some ships?

Lily and Marlene are the two most-written-about characters on this list, with 42k and 12k works respectively. Dorcas and Mary are both close at 8.5k, and there are comparatively very few fics about Alice (4.7k) and Emmeline (1.5k).

that in itself is interesting and curious considering there's comparable amounts of canon info about Dorcas and Marlene (next to none), a smidge more about Emmeline, and definitely more about Mary and Alice. some suggestions there about what drives fanon popularity, at least within the 2020s HP fandom!

interesting -- it might feel like there's a ton of marylily, but that's actually 'just about the amount we would expect to see if they were all shipped with each other at random, with equal frequencies.'* good to know!

significant lack of alice in these marauders era pairings

also that's quite the overrepresentation of mary/emmeline! (proportionally, for two very minor characters.)

*: i really like this analysis method and might try to apply this to All The Marauders Gen(TM), and maybe make some observations about M/M vs F/M vs F/F shipping. note to self!

some % over- or under-representation. lazy to explain the logic but it's essentially observed/expected similar to that above, "how much more or less do two characters appear shipped together based on what would be expected by how often they're each tagged", where 1 would be the 'baseline' of "these characters are shipped together exactly as often as would be expected", <1 is "less than expected" and >1 "more than expected".

for comparison, the OTP:true % for wolfstar is 43%, drarry 70%, jily 23%, and jegulus 22%. the average otp:true % for the top 5 ships here is 8.9%.

most of these femslash ships are written alongside wolfstar and to a lesser extent jily, more so than jegulus...

...with the biiig exception of lily/mary, which was notably different from most femslash ships in the lack of overlap with jily and 80% overlap with jegulus.

surprising and unexpected: the overlap of dorcas/emmeline with jily, and mary/emmeline with dorlene.

i would love to do a change over time but i'd have to get sO MANY STATS that realistically idt this is happening

"overall average" looks identical to dorlene, which makes up 70% of the fics here.

this is not filtered for otp:true or for f/f excluding m/m and f/m, so more stats needed to determine whether this relatively low % of E fic is exclusively a femslash phenomenon or a more general marauders subfandom trend.

(alice/marlene, the ship with the highest % of E fic, is one of the ships with a relatively high otp:true %, but with 11 fics total i'm not sure how much we can conclude from this.)

also not too sure what to make of the (in my opinion?) high? percentage of NR fics.

The old house out by the defunct Army base had always been a little ramshackle, but before, it was charming. Now it just looks like it wants to eat somebody.

Harper opens the door. Stacey is pleased that it’s too high for her to disembark gracefully in her long plain dress. She has to use both hands on the grab bar to get out. “You ever think about driving this relic a little closer to the ground? You know, the ground? The place where you walk once it’s time to get out?”

Stacey makes a mental note to take off the running boards the next chance she gets, just to fuck with Harper and her stupid short legs. “The higher the truck, the closer to God.”

Born on December 23, 1972, Barnaby was the only child of Cygnus and Rosamund Lee in Kent, England. As he was their only child, they placed high expectations on their son. Barnaby never reached or wanted to reach their expectations, which made his childhood tough and not particularly happy. There was a lot of cold indifference and disappointment within the Lee household. 

In 1984, Barnaby began Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin. He struggled with classes and had a bit of difficulty on the social side as well. He made two friends, who weren’t very good friends, and found that he was often threatening to fight other students. However, that all changed in his third year when he befriended Ryan, Cara, Sara, and Conor O’Donnell. Barnaby began to realize that he didn’t need to have a tough outer shell and could let his soft heart show, saving his toughness for moments that really mattered. 

After Hogwarts, Barnaby began working towards a career in magiozoology. He quickly rose through the ranks, as his knowledge and demeanor when with creatures helped pave a path. He also had the constant support of his girlfriend, and later wife, Sara, who helped him study. By the age of thirty, Barnaby had already started making a name for himself in the world of magiozoology and in 2005, he opened up a creature reserve and rehabilitation center on land that had once belonged to his wife’s family. He mostly ignored Sara, Ryan, Cara, and Conor as he mostly manipulated Cian, who felt isolated from his siblings and was drowning in grief. Of course, Cian’s disappearance when Sara was eight complicated matters as well. 

In 1984, Sara began Hogwarts alongside Ryan, Cara, and Conor. She was sorted into Hufflepuff and spent much of her years at Hogwarts entangled in the mystery of the Cursed Vaults. She also became a prefect, made a large group of friends, and began dating her future husband, Barnaby. By the end of her sixth year, the Cursed Vaults mystery was more or less solved and Sara no longer needed to stress over them.

After Hogwarts, Sara began training to be a healer in Leighis Hospital for Magical Maladies and Illnesses. She worked at Leighis for four years, before transferring to St. Mungo’s where she worked for a little less than two years as the second wizarding war drove Sara into hiding and the Order of Phoenix. After the war, she began working at Leighis again and helped her husband begin the process of creating a creature reserve and rehab center on land that had belonged to her maternal family for centuries.

There’s also a bit of a quidditch rivalry between the two as Violet joins her house’s team in Declan’s seventh year. Despite the tensions between the two siblings, Declan knows that he can count on Violet.

Declan tries to be a good role model for his little brother, but he often thinks that he falls short of being a good role model for Brendan.

Born on September 1, 2001, Declan Ryan O’Donnell-Lee was the second of Sara and Barnaby O’Donnell-Lee’s four children. He joined his older sister, Theodora Ails “Dora,” then two. Over the next eight years, Declan gained two younger siblings, Violet in 2003 and Brendan in 2006, and six cousins, Michael (b. 2003), Winifred (b. 2006), Keira (b. 2003), Seth (b. 2009), Naomi (b. 2009), and Ciaran (b. 2009). 

Declan had a good childhood. His family was always around and they were all very, very supportive. He never really wanted for anything, and knew that he could always count on his family. He spent most of his childhood growing up on the creature reserve and rehab center, gaining a healthy appreciation for creatures and animals. The only deaths that he truly experienced were those of the creatures that lived on the reserve or came to the rehab center. In addition, Declan’s passion for quidditch was born when his uncle Conor gifted him a copy of Quidditch Through the Ages for his fourth birthday. 

At the age of five, after noticing that Declan was struggling with reading and similar tasks, his mother decided that it was prudent to have him tested for dyslexia. His father likely had the same learning disability and as his mother was raised partially by muggles, she was aware of services for speech and language problems that wizards had no knowledge of. After undergoing testing, Declan was diagnosed with dyslexia. Due to Sara’s proactive actions, his family were able to provide him with supports that meant his dyslexia was debilitating and didn’t interfere with his coursework at Hogwarts nearly as much as it could have, allowing him to scrape by with average grades.

Hogwarts Years:

Upon starting Hogwarts, Declan was sorted into Slytherin. In his first year, he made the quidditch team as a reserve seeker and became the starting seeker in his second year. In his sixth year, he was awarded the honor of being Slytherin’s team captain. In addition, Declan also made friends, although very few would become truly close friends. 

During his time at Hogwarts, Declan began to struggle with the fact that the majority of people only seemed to be interested in Declan because of his familial connections. His father was a world-renown magiozoologist, an owner of a one-of-a-kind creature reserve and rehab center. Meanwhile, his mother was one of the famous (or infamous, depending on who you asked) Hogwarts cursebreakers. He really struggled with the fact that many of his early friends were only interested in what Declan could give them and not who Declan himself was. This resulted in Declan being quite wary about friendships and he started to hate being referred to by his surname only. 

In his sixth and seventh years, Declan was scouted by multiple quidditch teams from the British-Irish league. He was offered a spot on the Ballycastle Bats, the Appleby Arrows, and the Falmouth Falcons. Ultimately, he accepted the offer from the Bats, as he would still be able to stay near his family. 

Adulthood:

After graduating from Hogwarts, Declan began playing quidditch for the Ballycastle Bats. He spent his entire 24 year career with the Bats. Over the years, he got a few offers to join other teams, but he ultimately turned them down, happy with where he was with the Bats. At the age of 42, Declan suffered an injury to his shoulder which led to his retirement. 

After retiring, Declan slowly began looking into philanthropic endeavors and finding causes that he was passionate about. As he grew older, he donated time and money to the many causes that he believed were important or close to his heart, including providing quality quidditch supplies to children and students whose families couldn’t afford it. He even gave money to muggle charities. 

Declan also married Callie Black at the age of 27 in late 2028. They had two children together, James Michael and Harper Aurora. James was born on November 24, 2030, while Harper was born on July 19, 2032. 

Old Age: 

Declan spent most of his old age with his philanthropic endeavors and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. 

Death: 

At the age of 124, in the year 2126, Declan passed away peacefully in his sleep. He lived a very long and fulfilled life and left behind two children, four great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Trivia:

Appearance wise, Declan is a blend of his family. He inherited his aunt’s and great-great-grandmother’s red hair, his father’s build, his late grandmother’s eye color, and his mother’s nose. 

Declan’s middle name is after his uncle, Ryan. He is Declan’s mother’s slightly older brother.

Declan often feels that his surname and position as the eldest male cousin is the only thing that matters about him and that no one really cares about who he is beyond that. However, he also feels like he doesn’t have the right to feel frustrated by that because he had a good childhood and two parents who love him a lot. He knows that other people have it worse than he does. In addition, Declan often feels like he’s the odd man out. He’s the youngest person in his year. He’s the only O’Donnell-Lee sibling with red hair and the only one who doesn’t choose to do something with creatures. He’s the only O’Donnell cousin to be a Slytherin. 

Declan has always been secure in his sexuality. Watching his three siblings and four of his cousins struggle with discovering their sexualities are one reason why Declan feels like his issues aren’t real problems and why he keeps them to himself.

When he was a child, Declan almost always had scrapes and scabs on his knees, elbows, hands, and face. He was a bit of a rough and tumble child, who tried to play every sport that interested him.

Declan adores the family dogs. They’re his favorites out of all of the animals and creatures in his family’s life. Murphy the border collie often sleeps in Declan’s bedroom with him.
