It hasn’t rained in 3 weeks. You know that meme about someone found a rain spell in an old grimoire that was like ‘Take a cup of water and pour it onto the ground, then shout at the sky ‘SEE? IT’S NOT THAT HARD!’’
Well, I didn’t feel comfortable being that confrontational, so I just shouted “IF I MAY, LET ME OFFER INSTRUCTION!” and poured out the cup.
Too Minnesotan to be that rude, even if it’s for a spell

I will cop to not having travelled widely in the US, but so far, the only good thing I can say about the south overall is that it blows the rest of this country out of the fucking water for locally-developed cuisine

#they go on a little road trip across the desert and then they get picked up by the military#and betty takes rick back to her flat after telling bruce he's selfish for letting rick come this far with him (she's right)#and then bruce goes on the run from the military (again) after escaping and the stuff happens with jen to make her she hulk#and rick (who's been tracking disturbances of this kind in order to find bruce) sees this on the news and asks betty to come w him#so they go to minnesota and find out that it's not actually bruce it's jen! and betty and jen have their mini gay arc#where betty already knows she's gay and feels neutral on jen and jen thinks she's stright but is going insane for betty#and rick gets like a semblance of a normalish life w betty except betty has a lot of issues from her childhood e.g. her mum dying#and then rick#meanwhile bruce has been joining the avengers and thinking steve is being transphobic#he's not. steve is also trans he just doesn't like bruce as a person#and then rick breaks into the avengers compound when bruce is off world with thor (ragnarok era) and yells at steve and tony <3#and rick becomes steve's sidekick as he did in the comics#and then bruce returns! family reuinion!#reunion. whatever#and everyone learns the power of community and also tony dies#sequel fic dealing with rick's INSANE jealousy when peter joins bc HE should be the youngest coolest trans guy there#what do you MEAN he isn't the baby anymore. that he isn't the most funny and interesting and smart (in his own way) transmasc.#what the HELL everyone is meant to be on his SIDE#bruce voice (without looking up from his work) nobody's taking sides rick be a bit more mature about this#rick voice MATURE???? HE HAS ACTUAL SKILLS IM WORTHLESS AND EVERYONE IS THINKING IT WOE IS ME ET CETERA#sorry lois this really got away from me

“I’d love that!” Ushi pauses. “Are you all okay with rice? Like white rice. I don’t know how often White people eat rice.”
She knows it’s hard to get, so who knows if they’ve even had it before. But she has to ask anyway.
“I think it’d be good for all three of us to take a break. And for Kamado to be around people who won’t judge her.”
The same could be said about Ushi.

St. Paul, MN – During the early morning hours of November 20, 50 pro-Palestine protesters gathered at the site of Lockheed Martin’s new microelectronics subsidiary, ForwardEdge ASIC, in Saint Paul. They unfurled long banners, one reading, “MN, divest from Lockheed,” and blocked the driveway entrances to the facility for almost eight hours.
Police arrived shortly after the activists occupied the space and made their presence throughout the day, but no arrests were made. Due to the protesters’ presence, no employees of ForwardEdge ASIC were able to enter the facility and go to work that morning. The parking lot remained empty save for a lone security guard’s vehicle.
Lockheed Martin is the world’s largest weapons company by revenue and one of the major suppliers to the Israel Defense Forces. Lockheed Martin supplies Israel with a wide variety of weapons, including fighter jets, attack helicopters, and missiles. Lockheed Martin technologies are also integrated into Israel's main weapon systems.
Activists participated in as part of the newly formed Free Palestine Coalition in the Twin Cities, which comprises groups such as the Anti-War Committee (AWC), American Muslims for Palestine – MN, Council on American-Islamic Relations – MN, Students for Justice in Palestine – UMN, Students for a Democratic Society – UMN, Women Against Military Madness (WAMM), Jews Against Genocide, Red Nation, and several others.
Protesters emphasized the role of the state of Minnesota in funding Lockheed as well as other companies that make possible Israel’s violence against Palestinians. “Minnesota granted Lockheed over $1 million to open the Saint Paul facility this year,” explained Wyatt Miller of the AWC. “Meanwhile, the State Board of Investments has invested over $53 million of public pension money it controls in Lockheed. Governor Tim Walz chairs that board, so we also want to send a message that Minnesotans don’t want to see our taxpayer dollars used to fund this massacre in any way.”
After protesters determined that a majority of the workday had been disrupted, they marched in unity towards the facility to plaster the building with the protest signs as a show of victory.
Sarah Martin, a longtime anti-war activist with WAMM who was prepared to be arrested Monday, stated, “Because of our presence, weapons components were not made at the facility today by a manufacturer largely responsible for the murder of Palestinian children.”
“Protesters across the world have been shutting down business as usual as long as this massacre of Gaza continues,” said Miller. “We are proud to do what we can to slow the operations of the U.S. military-industrial complex, which is the backbone of Israel’s oppression of Palestine.”

liberals: straight cis white men are the worst amirite. anyways sex work is empowering and totally feminist
meanwhile sex buyers:
A new study says the majority of people paying for sex are married white men. The University of Minnesota took a deep look into who is buying sex in the state, and where they are going to find it. Their data shows that it is average everyday-looking men, with some disposable money, typically from 30 to 50 years old.

re: antis with cognitive dissonance who ship hannigram
seriously, as someone in the hannibal and locked tomb fandom, this is baffling. how the fuck do antis even get into these things? there were slapfights in the locked tomb fanon over shipping *second cousins* - not even legally considered incest in the united states! meanwhile, the series includes cannibalism, necrophilia, and (heavily implied) twincest.
--
I would like to remind my fellow Americans that first cousin marriage remains legal in:
Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, and Virginia.
And conditionally legal in Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina, Utah, and Wisconsin.
Plenty of the rest only ban marriage and have no legal opinion on boning your first cousin.

"Two years ago, the biggest battles in state legislatures were over voting rights. Democrats loudly — and sometimes literally — protested as Republicans passed new voting restrictions in states like Georgia, Florida and Texas. This year, attention has shifted to other hot-button issues, but the fight over the franchise has continued. Republicans have enacted dozens of laws this year that will make it harder for some people to vote in future elections.
But this year, voting-rights advocates got some significant wins too: States — controlled by Democrats and Republicans — have enacted more than twice as many laws expanding voting rights as restricting them, although the most comprehensive voter-protection laws passed in blue states. In all, 39 states and Washington, D.C., have changed their election laws in some way this year...
Where voting rights were expanded in 2023 (so far)
Unlike two years ago, though, we’d argue that the bigger story of this year’s legislative sessions was all the ways states made it easier to vote. As of July 21, according to the Voting Rights Lab, [which runs an excellent and completely comprehensive tracker of election-related bills], 834 bills had been introduced so far this year expanding voting rights, and 64 had been enacted. What’s more, these laws are passing in states of all hues.
Democratic-controlled jurisdictions (Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island and Washington) enacted 33 of these new laws containing voting-rights expansions, but Republican-controlled states (Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming) were responsible for 23 of them. The remaining eight became law in states where the two parties share power (Nevada, Pennsylvania and Virginia).
That said, not all election laws are created equal, and the most comprehensive expansive laws passed in blue states. For example:
New Mexico adopted a major voting-rights package that will automatically register New Mexicans to vote when they interact with the state’s Motor Vehicle Division, allow voters to request absentee ballots for all future elections without the need to reapply each time and restore the right to vote to felons who are on probation or parole. The law also allows Native Americans to register to vote and receive ballots at official tribal buildings and makes it easier for Native American officials to get polling places set up in pueblos and on tribal land.
Minnesota followed suit with a law also establishing automatic voter registration and a permanent absentee-voting list. The act allows 16- and 17-year-olds to preregister to vote too. Meanwhile, a separate new law also reenfranchises felons on probation or parole.
Michigan enacted eight laws implementing a constitutional amendment expanding voting rights that voters approved last year. Most notably, the laws guarantee at least nine days of in-person early voting and allow counties to offer as many as 29. The bills also allow voters to fix mistakes on their absentee-ballot envelopes so that their ballot can still count, track the status of their ballot online, and use student, military and tribal IDs as proof of identification.
Connecticut became the sixth state to enact a state-level voting-rights act, which bars municipalities from discriminating against minority groups in voting, requires them to provide language assistance to certain language minority groups and requires municipalities with a record of voter discrimination to get preclearance before changing their election laws. The Nutmeg State also approved 14 days of early voting and put a constitutional amendment on the 2024 ballot that would legalize no-excuse absentee voting.
No matter its specific provisions, each of these election-law changes could impact how voters cast their ballots in future elections, including next year’s closely watched presidential race. There’s a good chance your state amended its election laws in some way this year, so make sure you double-check the latest rules in your state before the next time you vote."

AU where john fails at being the Righteous Man and instead of going to dean they jump straight to adam, resurrecting him and planting some convenient info on demon deals to bring back loved ones so he'll go make a deal to bring back his mom. cue adam getting a bad deal, going to hell after a year, breaking the first seal to jump-start the apocalypse, and michael himself going to hell to rescue him.
the winchesters of course catch wind of all this happening from other demons letting slip abt adam's deal, adam in hell. they've been trying to rescue him themselves. then suddenly he's back and the demons are terrified of what they saw blaze through hell to rescue him. dean and sam hightail it to minnesota where they find adam very alive and talking about angels. talking about how one has been speaking to him (he can hear michael's true voice) trying to convince it to let him possess him for a Very Important Purpose.
dean is like oh hell no! fuck that. also there's no such thing as angels this is clearly some other being trying to trick you.
heaven is Not happy about dean meddling. dean is meddling SO hard. he's like, we need to protect adam. he's family! he's our brother too! he never asked to be dragged into this life. he deserves better than this shit.
so, heaven sends down an angel to deal with the Dean Problem. that angel is cas, of course. first cas tries the wrathful soldier of heaven approach, telling dean to back off or else. very horny-kitchen-moment. dean's not intimidated by it (he is horny tho). when that doesn't work, cas just starts trailing him, popping up at random times, eventually just sticking to dean like glue. dean's annoyed as hell at first, keeps jumping every time cas pops in. the personal space issues are incessant. cas has definitely popped in while dean was in the shower or jerking off. but then, it starts to feel...kinda nice. he likes having someone else around, other than sam.
and the more time cas spends with dean, the more curious cas becomes of humans and all their little humanisms. he asks questions. he watches movies with dean. he listens as dean rambles about the things he loves. and cas starts to become very fond of this human. and starts to question (re-question) heaven. it's been a while since he's been on earth, it's been awhile since his last lobotomy. he doesn't remember he's loved humanity for a long time. but he's re-experiencing that love. falling in love with humanity all over again, questioning heaven's ways, doubting.
meanwhile, midam is going through their own little parallel romance + rebellion arc. michael and adam having deep conversations as michael continues to speak to adam with his true voice. michael visiting adam's dreams and adam showing him all the things he loves. telling michael about his mom, about growing up in minnesota, their first house with the yellow kitchen, his dreams of being a doctor, how he doesn't even really like baseball but he still holds a certain fondness for the sport because going to those games were happy memories despite john being a total deadbeat dad. michael realizing humanity is worth saving, worth protecting. realizing this apocalypse isn't worth the amount of loss it will cause. realizing maybe his father was wrong. doubt. for the first time he feels...
and then eventual cas + michael team up to stop the apocalypse and reform heaven
