I have very normal feelings about a situation where Toshiro visits Melini after a long while. Laios has established himself as king, although he still has much to improve on. Toshiro carries on the family mantle, but that isn't relevant now; he's on a break, seeing friends he hasn't seen since their last chaotic adventure. Laios waits to greet him at the docks when he arrives. Toshiro feels his heart quicken, though this is very quickly brushed off. Who wouldn't feel excited when meeting a companion after so long? He runs down to the docks—he forgets himself—He runs down the docks, ecstatic.

Laios greets him with a handshake. It's... much too formal. Diplomatic. The attitude befitting a king, not a friend. Toshiro forgets himself. He greets Laios with the handshake he's extended, yes, but he feels weird about it.

As Laios walks ahead of him, he is aided by his trusted advisor, who is bickering with him while telling him what to do. Laios is comfortable, with him. Toshiro is an outsider; he forgets himself.

Okay I never realized just how truly obnoxious the TRR MC actually was until I replayed #LoveHacks, whose MC shares faces with the TRR MC. This entire playthrough I was just waiting for the MC to be plucky and unserious and annoying and qUiRkY and I had to keep unbracing myself because the #LoveHacks MC, while flawed, is actually rather well-adjusted and mature, whereas the TRR MC will interrupt a ceremony to call the crown regent a big meany bad man, name a boat christened in her daughter’s honor “Boaty McBoatface”, and obsess over fancy hats for seven whole books + a holiday special.

Recently read @velvetwyrme and @collegecomics18 's "Flipping Fate" fic and it has scratched my itch for tragedy fluff. Is that a thing? I dunno, i guess i just really love interpretations of UF!Papyrus where it's like, he *could* have been just as heroic and good as UT!Papyrus (cuz they're the same sorta, fundamentally) but his world shaped him in such a way that he had to recreate himself as mean/evil just to survive. The tragedy of someone having to not only crush who they are to keep themselves or loved ones safe, then also having to deal with the consequences of that choice. (Which include seeing yourself how you *could* have been if you never had to make that life changing choice in the first place.)

The fluff part is him getting to be in a place where he can now be what and who he wants to be (which is hard and scary but also beautiful). And honestly isn't that the kind of fluff everyone wants? To live in a world where you don't have to pretend to be what you're not because it's "safer", but instead getting to be who you are and be accepted.

This was meant to be a post to wax poetic about an UF!Papyrus fic but it turned philosophical. Anyway, the fic is good, aches so good, check it out.
