Tumblr media
Today is @maxwellatoms' 50th birthday, so I decided to put apart my mental issues aside to do something for that, just like I did for the 40th (see here). This time I decided to make something based on that cancelled project he worked for during the 2010's: "Dead Meat".
Sorry for not being active around here, but since I deal with some mental issues, I don't really like Tumblr so much (I find it very complicated), and no one actually cares, I'm not here so much.
Happy birthday Max!

Could I request a Chris evans story based on the all too well song by Taylor swift?? But with a happy ending??:)
Hi hon,
While I do take requests I would love a little more elaboration on what you're looking for.
I got another one a while ago for another Taylor Swift song (idk if that was you as well) and I do like Taylor, but she is not the music I usually listen to when I write, and it's a little hard for me to just go off a song without any kind of direction.
I have a lot of requests in my inbox rn that I need to get through (I have been feeling a bit drained due to work and school this week so I haven't been writing as much as I would have liked but I'm hoping to get back to it next week), and most of them are for my series or specific situations so those would always take precedent bc it inspires me more in terms of ideas/flows/etc.
You're welcome to send in a new one with something more specific, but in general I have a hard time with just songs unless it's actually music that already inspires me (like the soundtrack from Endings, Beginnings, for example. This also gives you a bit of an idea of what I listen to when I write)
I'm sorry to not be able to give you what you want but hopefully someone else can or you're welcome to send something more specific in, anytime <3

Hey Maxwell, was wondering if you or your patreon will have more old and new artwork of yours. I really love you art style growing up (still do now) and wanted to see more concept art whether it be billy and mandy stuff, cancelled projects, or just dumb doodles or personal illustrations. Would you ever consider making an art book or showcase your sketchbook? Anyways, thanks for making my favorite show and keep on making weird horror stories 🤘🏾
I've never been the best with curating my own artwork. Or even taking basic care of it. I don't even want to tell you how many of those giant post-apocalyptic Dead Meat cars I built just ended up in a trash can. That's probably why I'm so cool giving (and selling) all of my old Billy & Mandy art to fans. A lot of the good stuff is in the hands of people all over the world now, which would make photographing it difficult to do. And apparently it was already too difficult to bother with when I actually had the stuff in my hands. Long story short, an art book seems less likely by the hour.
Actually, I do have some photos. And some art I haven't parted with yet. All of that stuff is likely to appear in "Billy & Mandy -vs- The Entertainment Industry", which is my post-B&M, animation apocalypse documentary. And that stuff will definitely be on the Patreon.
When I started the patreon, I was saying it'd be 50/50 "The Upward Expedition" and "B&M vs The Entertainment Industry". The former is a lot of work and the latter is a slow burn that won't really start shooting in earnest until February. Right now, it's a lot of The Upward Expedition development.
In relation to weird horror stories, there may be a Fun Experiment coming soon as well...

Silent night
Tumblr media
Krampus x reader
Summary: On the night before Christmas, you have an encounter with the feared Krampus.... it doesn't go quite as expected.
Notes: @theradioactivespidergwen said she hoped for a Krampus fic this Christmas. So I promised to see if I could make one. This might not be what you expected or wanted, Mandy, but hope you think its okay 🤣
Divider by @firefly-graphics
Words: around 1 K
Warnings: None, really. Maybe just me taking some liberties with Krampus and thinking I'm funny 🤣
Tumblr media
The sounds of bells fill the cold December air. But not the jolly warm bells we know from Santa, no. These were devoid of joy, ominous as their dead, soulless chimes sound in the night. The rusty hinges on the old, cracked sleigh sound as it lands on the lawn.
Big, black hooves land in the snow and with heavy steps, they make their way to the door. Claws scratching down the old wood, a warning of what is to come. A warning for those who haven’t been nice.
The door swings open, giving way for the icy winds to enter the warm suburban house. Its quiet. All the inhabitants still sleeping, but not for long. Soon one of them will be begging for his life. Soon he will be no more.
The hooded figure steps forward, the air around him chilling to the bone. His very presence harbors death and all joy is gone. Until one of the giant hooves lands on a toy brick and he almost looses his balance, the small brick wedged into the hoof.
”Son of a bitch! Who the fuck lets Lego lying around?! Jesus.” His deep voice rings through the silent house as he kicks the blocks away, pulling the wedged brick out. Suddenly the lights flicker on, and he freezes, looking up slowly to find a woman looking at him.
“Uhm, hi. You’re not supposed to be up.” Krampus says confused, confident that the whole house was sleeping when he entered.
“Well, I am now. You’re a little loud.” I yawn, looking at him. The ragged red coat with the white so dirty it looks grey. The massive horns protruding from his forehead and the hoofed feet that scrabe the hardwood floor. “Shit… You’re Krampus.”
“I… I am.” He says, making his voice a little deeper as he straightens.
“You’re not what I expected.” I chuckle softly, crossing my arms, taking in the creature before me. He might look the part, but his voice and the way he carries himself? Not at all like the horrific tales.
“Oh, you…” He pauses and his eyes turn fiery red, like the flames of Hell and the room gets darker as if a shadow suddenly falls upon it. “You wanted this, my child? To be frightened to your very core?”
His voice is gritty and cold as ice, the coldness seeping into my veins. My whole body tremble as he walks closer, the smell of sot and rotting flesh filling my nostrils. The way his hooves scrabe over the floor boards send shivers through me, making me regret I ever laid eyes upon him.
“Want me to scare you? To peel the flesh off your bones and feast upon your tender meat?” Krampus asks, his claws scratching my cheek as the red eyes stare into my soul, making my blood run cold.
“Yeah, no. I don’t do that much.” He says, his voice now back to normal and the room the same as it was before, as if nothing happened. “After a few hundred years it gets old.” He chuckles and scratches his neck.
“Only use it on the hardcore cases. Most are afraid or freeze the minute they see me, so I rarely need it.” He looks to me, slightly frowning as he leans in closer. “Why aren’t you scared?”
“I don’t know. Just aren’t. Well, I was when you did your Krampus voodoo.” I smile softly, shrugging my shoulders. Never been much of a scaredy cat.
“Huh.” It’s the first time in all his years that a human hasn’t feared him. This is… new and a little exciting. “You… Are you normally not scared?”
I just shake my head. Horror was one of my favorite things and there had always been a certain pull to the mysterious and unknown. I take a step closer, looking at his eyes, now that they are back to their normal brown color.
“Are you here for me?” I ask, confused. I might have some… not so normal interests, especially in what I read, but if that was all it would take, a lot more people would be taken.
“Oh, no. Don’t worry. I’m here for your brother.“ He averts my gaze for a second while he grins. “I mean, your taste sure is spicy, but not for me to judge.”
He smiles before gesturing to the stairs. “I should get going. The bad ones aren’t going to torture themselves.” He frowns for just a split second, but it’s enough for me to notice.
“You hate your job… Don’t you?” I ask and it causes him to stop, slowly turning back to face me.
“Well, yeah… Wouldn’t you hate being the bad guy for so long? The cause of all those nightmares? A cautionary tales used by grandmothers that want their grandchildren to behave.” He looks down, frustrated, before returning his gaze to mine. “It was fun for a while. Had a blast in the 1400-1600s. But… lately I’ve been asking for a replacement. Turns out it’s quite difficult when there’s only one me.” Krampus shrugs with a chuckle, trying to play it off, but I can see the frustration in his eyes.
“What about a vacation?” I suggest with a smile. “I mean, isn’t your job very seasonal?”
The way I smiles is really endearing and Krampus can’t help but feel… something. A little unsure what that feeling might be, he’s very interested, nonetheless.
“You know, I never thought about that.” He stands there for a moment, looking into my eyes. Even in his friendly stage, he is an intimidating sight, yet I don’t flinch. Not even a frown on my brow.
“Well, I…” With a nod, Krampus finally tears himself away and walk up the stairs, leaving me in the living room.
-
When he comes back downstairs, Krampus stops and finds me still there. “Where would you go on vacation?”
He notices how my eyes linger on the bag slung over his shoulder. Its still moving and there are faint screams coming from within. “Sorry, just… doing my job.”
“That’s okay. He was an asshole anyways.”
Krampus stares at the woman in front of him. So short and fragile compared to him yet standing so unbothered in his presence. “You’re not like anyone else I’ve ever met.”
“Yeah, I… I’m often told I’m different.” I shrug with another smile. For a while we just stand there, looking at each other. The smell of sot and rotting flesh still lingers in the air, but I don’t move, just awaits his next move.
“So. Where would you go on vacation?” Krampus asks again.
“If I could choose anywhere in the world, I’d travel to New Zealand.”
“New Zealand it is then.” He smiles, the gesture sweet in spite of his sharp teeth and harsh appearance. For a moment he lets his eyes linger on her, almost as if he’s searching for a reason not to go. But eventually he looks down and walks away.
“Happy holidays.” He says, voice surprisingly soft, before walking out the door, disappearing into the cold winter night.
-
That Christmas was more silent than usual in my house. The official story was that my low life brother walked out on his wife and kids. The others hoped he’d still come back, but I knew better. If I look closely, I can still see faint marks in the floorboards from where his hooves dragged over the old wood.
No one would believe me, of course, so I would never tell. That’s a little secret I would keep to myself. I did still think about him, though. Wondering how many souls he claims every Christmas. If he ever got that much needed time off.
But I shake off the thought as I start to remove my Christmas decorations. Christmas was over and the holiday would forever be changed for me. I’d never quite look at it the same again.

Carlos/Lando
nsfw: Glitter and Be Gay by @phebess | E | 14.7k
Lando is an out and proud primary school art teacher, and Carlos is the hot dad who has caught his eye. This is such a sweet and tender story of self-discovery and identity. As always, Phebes' humour is on point - I laughed out loud several times!
'Lando is wearing an ugly Christmas sweater and waiting outside the school for the bus to take them all to the Christmas Village - he's been before, and it's cute. There's little food stalls, a big man dressed as Santa, tons of fake snow, and even a reindeer petting zoo. A small childish part of him is excited, even if he's going with the company of a bunch of five year olds.'
Fernando/Mark
Lonely This Christmas by @seafoampearlygirl | NR | 19.5k
Mark is stuck at home for Christmas with nobody but the dogs and nothing but what's in the freezer during the worst snowstorm in 40 years. Fernando won't hear of it. He turns up on Mark's doorstep with a metric tonne of food and a plan for seduction. Mark is completely clueless. This fic combines all the best elements of Christmas fic and cosy, snowed in snugglefic. Fernando is written here as he seems IRL - larger than life with emotions to match. Mark is quietly pining and completely unaware that he is being wooed.
'He made Fernando's bed up with soft sheets that he knew were the warmest he owned. He added some heavy throws, because Fernando was Spanish and used to warmer weather. If Mark had had mints in the house, he'd have put one on the pillow. Fernando had brought dinner, dessert, wines, snacks, a frankly terrifying amount of cured meats and cheeses, a very stuffed overnight bag that suggested a longer stay, his laptop, hot water bottles and candles (“in case of power problems”), DVDs (no Christmas movies except Die Hard, Mark was glad to note), and some groceries. The last, even though it wasn't festive, really blew Mark away. A Christmas surprise was magical, but someone had to really care to bring you milk and bread and teabags. He'd even remembered Mark had a fireplace, and had brought firewood, firelighters and coal from the car. If Mark had a spare kidney, he'd have put it on Fernando's pillow, never mind a stupid mint.'
Alex/George
slip a sable under the tree by @strawberry-daiquiris | M | 5k George and Alex are roommates, and George takes a Christmas job as a Christmasgram. This story is everything - the humour, the pining, the festive vibes. I loved it!!
George can feel his cheeks turning as red as his Santa hat, sweat trickling down his back under the polyester, and he’ll need to wipe that off before he gets his top off.
Daniel/Max
home among the gumtrees by @albertparks | T | 10.3k
A love letter to Australian Christmas; Max and Daniel spend the holidays together. This story is stunning, and encapsulates Australian Christmas perfectly. It's so immersive and sweet.
'They walk, and walk, and walk through the yellowing grass. The sky is an endless mirage of blues, pink, and purples, the stars beginning to peak out as the sun lowers its harsh gaze. It's beautiful here, there's nowhere quite like Perth in the middle of summer. LA is fun, Monaco is relaxing, but nowhere will home quite like here.'
Esteban/Pierre
People You Know by @estemick | M | 6.4k Esteban invites Pierre to spend Christmas with him after Pierre's flight is cancelled. Set during Christmas 2022, after Pierre's move to Alpine has been announced. Esteban inviting Pierre home with him is something of an olive branch, which Pierre warily accepts. They take a zigzag path toward reconnecting with one another. Their awkward, yet heartfelt conversations show the gradual unfurling of their old friendship, and a little more besides. This fic is gentle and soft, and it's cosy atmosphere of a Christmas for two, curled up safe and warm while a snowstorm rages outside, makes it a perfect festive read.
Esteban had been alone in motorsport for years, and now he’s best friends with Mick Schumacher of all people, the son of his childhood hero. How does something like that even happen? After another stretch of not-quite-comfortable silence, Pierre decides to ask. It’s not like he can make this any more awkward. “You and Mick seem close.” Esteban keeps his focus on the snowy road in front of them, but Pierre can see a vein bulging in his temple before he sighs and responds. “We are.” “How did that happen?” “What do you mean?” “You’ve just never been great at making friends.” As soon as the words have left Pierre’s mouth, he realises how cruel they are. Esteban is silent for so long that Pierre isn’t certain that he’s going to respond at all. “I didn’t need to. I had you.” “You were friends with other people.” They had been close with Charles and Anthoine for almost as long as they had known each other. Esteban had been shy, but it’s not like he was alone . At least, he had always been present by Pierre’s side. "You took them with you. When you left.”
Charles/Pierre
you set my heart on fire by @boxboxbrioche | M | 14.7k
Charles returns home to the small town he grew up in for Christmas. His career as a photographer has kept him away for several years. After being volunteered to help with a charity calendar, he reconnects with his childhood friend, Pierre, who is now a firefighter. Why I liked it: This fic has a lovely Hallmark movie vibe, leaning into the trope of career-motivated protagonist coming home and realising what is important in life. The Leclerc family vibes are exquisite, Charles's mum and brothers just the right mix of teasing and loving. Pierre, of course, is as knee-weakeningly attractive to Charles as he always is.
Pierre gave him a thumbs up, still grinning. Charles watched with wide eyes as Pierre did the one thing that no one else had - headed straight for the fire pole. “You’re not really going to–” Before Charles could finish that sentence, Pierre had grabbed the pole with two hands and was hanging off of it, feet planted firmly on the floor, his head tilted back. He looked - ridiculous, was the first word that came to Charles’ mind, closely followed by (to his horror) hot. There was something about the way he held himself; the curve of his body, the angle of his chin, that had Charles wondering if he’d done this before. Pierre glanced at him, grinning. “Well? Are you not going to take the shot?"
All's Well That End's Well (To End Up With You) series by @welightitup, @boxboxbrioche and @redyellowstupid | T | 15.7k
Due to both of their hectic calendars, Pierre and Charles have a tradition of celebrating their birthdays late - in July for Pierre's, and in December for Charles'. This series is all about celebration, long-time friendship and a delicious slow-burn friends-to-lovers. I love the way these authors capture Pierre and Charles' dynamic - their friendship shines through in a way that feels so beautifully real and true to them. These fics even come with a bonus piece of art in the third part of the series! All in all, the series is just incredibly heartwarming, nostalgic and beautifully written, and will leave you with the biggest smile on your face, just like a true Hallmark holiday rom-com. (Because after all, what's more Hallmark-y than realising you've been in love with your childhood best friend all along?)
The air is sprinkled with the scent of cinnamon and chocolate as they make their way through the market stalls lining the centre of Rouen. Despite the late evening hour, it is teeming with more people Charles remembers there ever being. There’s an empty cup that had contained mulled wine in one hand, the other clutching onto Pierre’s sleeve as he trails behind him to make sure they don’t get separated.
Lights from the market and the fair at the far end twinkle like coloured fairy lights strung across the entirety of the area. There is a contagious merry mood, everyone sharing smiles and nods and the odd “joyeux Noël”, no matter who they are, and bitter bite of the weather - now in the single digits - is soothed by the heat radiating off the bustling crowds and the food stalls.
nsfw: wishing for a blue christmas by @duquesademiel and @wolfiemcwolferson | E | 29.4k
This is a non-drivers AU and soulmates AU. Pierre and Charles have a meet-cute moment when their luggage gets mixed up on a flight. Pierre is on holiday alone after his long term girlfriend left him after finding her soulmate. Charles's family immediately adopts him. What I liked about it: This fic is a lovely feelgood Christmas read. The Leclerc family scenes are wonderful, I'm not sure if I liked matchmaker Pascale, annoying brat younger brother Arthur or kind older brother Lorenzo more but between the three of them Charles's dignity doesn't stand a chance. Pierre and Charles are made for each other, obviously, but the tension arises from the fact that Pierre already has a soulmark and has SOMEone out there already. Hmm.
“I got you something else,” Pierre tells him. “Sit up so you can see.” Charles glares at him but allows himself to be pulled up to a sitting position and then he sets the bag into Charles’ lap and Charles immediately sticks his hand down into the bag to pull out…a - He throws his head back to laugh, reaching for the gift he got Pierre and setting it on his lap. Pierre only has time to look momentarily confused before he is pulling out an identical keychain that Charles is also holding. Charles had purchased it because it looks vaguely like his soulmark and Pierre never has to use it, but it had made Charles smile and apparently Pierre as well. “This is perfect,” Pierre says, and Charles is about to be the one to lean over and kiss him, but he hears Arthur shout from the main room and they both freeze, wide eyed. “You can escape now.” Charles whispers. “Save yourself.”
Charles/Max
As long as I get to keep you by @babysharl | T | 34k
When Charles and Max find each other at Daniel's New Year's party, they find themselves in a little predicament–when the clock strikes midnight, it grants a wish to the one who winds it up. It turns out–he's wished for a dream to come true: to be surrounded by love. Oh my goodness, this is one of my all time FAVORITE magical realism fics! The magic of the clock, wish fulfillment, it's amazing and so well-written. Literally, every moment of the fic took me somewhere new, and I definitely recommend it wholeheartedly!!!
It were moments like these that highlighted just how much of a different reality this was. They weren't supposed to take naps in real life, it fucked up their sleep schedules. He and Max, even though closer, were never this close until probably last night, where Charles had a vague recollection of falling asleep on Max. The general softness of the moment, their breaths slow and gentle, Max's eyes lazily moving from their nephew to Charles again, fondness mushing up the edges of the piercing blue. None of this was reality for Charles. He felt so at peace, though, that he chose to ignore the obvious. He chose to ignore the phone call, and that this wasn't his to have, that this wasn't the Max he wanted in his bed despite how similar he was, that this was just a dream he would wake up from. He wondered if he and Max could ever have something resembling this. He doubted it. Not with their lives.
Christian/Toto
the season of eyes meeting over the noise by @nobrakesdown | T | 9.1k
Toto and Christian are a pair of mildly antagonistic music teachers fighting over space in a concert venue for their respective classes. Gradually, they find themselves like one another more than they expected. This fic captures the snarky back and forth thise two have irl, and also the hint of affability you see in some of their interactions. A lot of the snark in the fic seems like it's for habit or show, and the gradual bloom of affection is not a surprise considering the groundwork's been done. This is a sweet little holiday story, perfect to curl up with.
He’s still holding his own coffee cup as they walk out of the shop, with Daniel waving after them as they go. The cold hits them as they go through the door, and Toto sees Christian shove his hands into his pockets again. He acts without really thinking, putting his cup down on a low wall that runs along the sidewalk. He slips off one glove, and then the other. Placing them carefully together, he holds them out to Christian, who stares at him. Toto huffs, his breath hanging in the cold air. “I’m not the one who didn’t bring appropriate clothing. Go on, take them.” “But that’s a terrible solution,” Christian says. “Now your hands will get cold.” “They won’t,” Toto says, not getting pulled into this. “I still have a warm cup to carry back with me.” Christian shakes his head, but when Toto holds the gloves closer to him he takes them. He turns them over in his hands before, apparently approvingly, putting them on. Toto finds himself watching, but he forces his mind away from thinking that his gloves look good on Christian. That would be ridiculous to think, because they’re just gloves.

Paranormal birth
However it seems to be impossible, paranormal impregnation is an existing method of reproduction by humans őt exoterrestrials.
This is indeed unexplainable how does it work. There are only few traces about the process itself, but the result is likely a healthy offspring which is identical to the race. However these babies may have some supernatural abilities which origin are unknown.
But returning to the impregnation itself, it's usually a ritual at an undisclosed location, such as temples, altairs, lairs or other mysterious places. Supernatural forces are involved including good and evil.
The female participant have to be pure, devoted and willing to have a child anyhow. Sometimes virginity is required, other cases there are some wonderful events when fruitless women gives birth to a healthy baby.
Mandy is considered infertile. All her relationships and even a marriage ended up with the cruel fact she couldn't get pregnant, however she literally did everything to have a baby. Her former partners could not stand the fact, that Mandy won't be able to conceive.
Once she heard about a mysterious sect called "The offspring of mother nature". As a last straw and desperation to have a child, she joined them. She had to change lifestyle: no processed food, no meat or animal products, only plant-based meals were allowed to consume and spring water or herbal tea to drink. She was taking part in various purification sermons, meditations, specific body exercises. Also her religious training in the forces of nature was intense.
When the leaders considered her ready for the ritual, they've introduced her to the altair of Nature's Wonder. The place where every prepared woman gets gifted by the power of elements with a child. The ritual began, Mandy was put into a hypnotic trance to meet those forces of nature in spiritual way.
The members of the sect where also in deep trance, chanting and calling the forces of Nature to bless Mandy with a child. She was indeed asleep when her abdomen swelled slowly up, such as her breasts. What happened, no one knows. The whole process was like a miracle, including the accelerated pregnancy.
Then shortly after a high-priest approached and spilled some pure earth on Mandy's baby bump, while she still was in trance. Then the wonder started: her water broke and with intense pains the birth started. It didn't take long to birth her unknown fetus, which was believed to be a gift from the nature itself. The birth was eventually carried out without any complications, Mandy gave life to a beautiful baby girl, named Crystal.
She was indeed the happiest woman on the Globe and agreed to stay with the sect, as she wanted to have more babies. But who's the father? How she got pregnant? What kind of powers those offspring has? No one will ever know for sure. Things remained unexplained to the outside world.

FULL SCRIPT DIALOGUE:
Hey Evan!
__________________
Question. What do we sell here?
No, Michael. We sell dreams.
Sales is… seduction. And when you seduce, do you say I have a 401k? Or I floss? No. You say, I love you. Because people make decisions from the heart. You want to sell a bunch of useless crap to fat losers in Alabama and bored housewives in Iowa, feed their dreams. Convince them. Their lives can transcend the pointless slog of being human. Give them hope. Open their eyes to something… bigger. Sink your teeth into their poor, pathetic lives, and give them life. And better abs.
Our goal for this month is… one million dollars in sales. It’s aggressive, yes. I’m confident we can hit it. And if we don’t, Ted and I have already agreed we’ll be forced to kill all of you.
__________________
Thank you, Gerry.
Are those the employee files I requested?
Listen, Amanda. I know you and Evan have a history, and I know that you care about him.
Sure, sure, sure, tell you what. After I settle in, you and I can schedule some one-on-one and get to know each other.
Hey, buddy! Just had a little HR talk. Thanks, Mandy, we’ll circle back round.
Long time no see, am I right?
Listen, Evan. I know you and I had a little falling out. But as far as I’m concerned, water under the bridge. Ancient history. ‘Cause it’s all about the company now, right?
Knew I could count on you.
__________________
We’re going to get this place lean and mean, Theodore. We're gonna need to separate the meat from the talent. We’re gonna-
Evan, Evan. Slow down! What’s up now?
Ted, call security.
Evan, this isn’t some way of stalling on the Fallowcite presentation, is it?
We’re counting on ya, slugger.

Dave, right?
I hear you're the guy to talk to about office pools. Company’s sports zsar.
Oh yeah?
Oh, nonsense. Morale is vital to the health of any company. And you make an important contribution. Let’s pop into my man cave and you can give me the Vegas tips on NBA playoffs and dirt on upcoming events, you know, man stuff.
__________________
Oh gosh, buddy, that hurts my feelings. I'm sure Amanda is great in a crisis, but don’t you think this call is more suited to 911?
I just devoured her… fabulous Osso Bucco! Who knew she was such a demon in the kitchen? Absolutely open another bottle, as long as it’s red!
Do I hear banging? On your end, I mean. There’s no banging happening here, yet.
It’s Evan calling to tell us he’s absolutely crushing the Fallowcite presentation for tomorrow. Do you wanna talk to him?
Sorry, buddy, you’re stuck with me.
I think you better focus on your own problems, bro. But I’ll give Amanda your best. Actually, I’ll give her mine. It’s better.
Where are we, is the more pertinent question?
You… have beautiful eyes.
Don’t I know it...
__________________
Ted. Ted, Ted. Let’s not be hasty. Andrew finished the job, but Evan laid down the groundwork. Look at this poor fella. He was just passed over for a promotion, he slept in the supply closet and he smells like a dead worn hooker. He’s just having a rough patch. Let’s give him a pass on this one, ‘kay?
__________________
Poor, poor, Elaine. All ginger and no joy.
Yes, you do! I want you… ssh.
You all are.
__________________
Corporate was threatening to shut down the entire branch, I simply presented Ted with an alternative.
After your little stunt in college, the only school that would take me was this university in Romania. But it turns out, it had a very unique MBA programme. Whole new paradigm in business management.
That is the worst part of this job! Firing people.
It’s true, Amanda. You gotta start working on your stubbornness if you wanna be a part of the team.
Is that so?
Oh. Okay. Well, show yourselves out.
Bye, gang.
__________________
Oops.
Oh no, no, no, no, no. I need you to learn how to delegate.
Not if you kill them first, people. Learn how to take the initiative if you don't want me to micro manage!
No, it’s a balancing act, to be sure.
Well don’t worry about it. It’s mostly marketing.
Still, a good manager knows when his staff is getting overextended. Be a dear and call downstairs for me, would ya?
Yeah feel free, make yourself at home.
Who am I going to get to stock the supply closet now?
Ehh. I’ll make more.
Not in the slightest.
Oh honestly, guys. Did you really think it was going to be that easy?
Oh come on! You think I'd attempt to take over this entire company without consulting Legal first?
Amanda? A private word with you in my office, please.
Hey, remember when I did this to your girlfriend in college without using supernatural powers?
Evan, you can go home for the day. Frank. You can die.
__________________
Oh, hey pal! I was just about to turn your girl and fuck her on Ted’s desk.
Sorry, hahaha, my desk.
Amanda. You need to focus on your job. HR is going to be swamped with all the new hires we’re going to need.
My management style is effective! And refreshing.
Evan. Do you remember what I said we sell here?
Yeah. That was bullshit. We sell fear.
Our customers are afraid. Afraid that life is passing them by, which to be fair, it is. And that is why you are perfect for this place, because you are a coward!
You were afraid to tell Amanda you love her because of why? Because you work together? Because she earns more than you?
You didn’t even have the balls to quit when this incompetent turd passed you over for the guy you hate most on the face of the earth. You are so afraid of life, haha, that you actually want to be sales manager in this shit hole!
We are trying to have a conversation!
And I’m not gonna change you. That’s right. I’m gonna keep you alive and stuck in this pathetic, pointless job from now until the day you die.
This suit is bespoke!
Sharing the desk with the photo printer whilst I stay young with the woman you love, immortal at my side!
Yeah. Yeah. That’s the way it works.

mandy tears with claws and sharpens them on anyone who comes near the ones she loves. mickey bites and shreds apart those who crosses his family, the little pack of those he must protect.
both of them love a boy who's sunlight and shadow, they'll wet their muzzles with blood — same as the color of his hair — to keep his safe. until he came along they never fought back against their father, a man so like a feral dog who snarls and snaps his teeth even at his own, but they fought back for that boy
milkoviches are nothing but dogs, they know loyalty and fierceness and they're at their most dangerous when the right person comes along to let them off their leash. the pack calls for a hunt, and a hunt means violence.
violence is their meat and drink, the marrow in their very bones. they'll tear the world down if it means one boy stays safe. because they know he'll love them, no matter what. they may be the ones that bite but he's the one who chose to hold his hands out to begin with. he'll let them scar his flesh if it earns their trust. and in return they sit at his feet and dare anyone to come too close.

Disney's Wish: A Simple Meal Well Made.
As somebody who enjoys all sorts of animation that hits that sweet spot for me, I agree with the general consensus of fellow cartoon fans that animation is NOT just for kids nor should it only enjoyable to kids.
I also agree that while some are made with kids in mind, that doesn't mean that they are bereft of thought put into them. Avatar might be overdone as the go-to example but that it is does speak to its quality and all those it had inspired.
Even so, even wacky comedies like Billy & Mandy have a lot of thought put into them in terms of what the creators think will bust a gut. They don't just settle for wacky comedies because it's what the kids want but more what they wanna show. Even if some are strongarmed into being more comical, most will at least roll up their sleeves and have bit of fun.
However, I feel like this need to highlight animation's appeal across generations can often have a lot of fans put pressure on certain projects from certain studios of significant recognition. That is to say, there's little room to be just "mid" as the kids call it.
Like... we all know the Oscars are bull, right? Like many even admit as much. However, this dismissal of animation each year gets to use largely because there are those who by their hype. We feel our medium has a lot to prove so each movie has to be go big or go home.
Especially after big name companies put out projects that go GIANT between Spider-Verse and The Last Wish.
Of course, as it pertains to Wish, many would consider Disney not going big was unbefitting of their centenary film. I'm not here to advocate for expecting less or that one can't feel more meat could've been added to what they feel is a bit bare bones. I mean, 100 years of movie making is nothing to sneeze at.
But baring that and all else I've discussed above, it can be REALLY easy to fall into the pit trap of seeing Wish far less for what it is and a lot more for what it isn't.
For me?
I found the pacing fairly brisk from start to finish with the songs rarely ever feeling like non sequiturs. Rarely did any moment truly drag out with or was there just because of marketing or comic relief.
I love how we had less of a mystery around King Magnifico being a very selfish behind the scene from Act 1 and only getting worse when he perceives a threat to his power. It very much reads like a fantastical take on Walt Disney's rise in power and shadiness behind the charming facade.
While the heroine was archetypical, I found Asha's story and her friends getting swept up in facing the king more true to life than you think. Especially when viewed through the lens of being analogous to Disney:
King Magnifico as this benevolent ruler who harbors many wishes he promised he might grant. Many of which either come down to how they may not serve him or even threaten him like Saba's. That is, anything new or off-beat that could undermine what he's accomplished or feels entitled to.
Asha being this castle worker who tries to get the position of working with the big man himself and does... only to learn his shady side. Much like how Disney fans find any position in the company to not be the dream job they thought it'd be before learning how deep the rabbit hole goes.
Asha finds another source of magic that grants wishes and unintentionally threatens Magnifico. Given the indie animation boom, it's hard to not see this as creators taking IPs into their own hands without the backing of big megacorps.
Magnifico delves into dark magic that depreive him more and more of whatever scruples he had left in order to quash this rebellion. I think we've seen too many examples of bigger companies trying to outdo the little guys via unethical means of increasing production for money.
The King utilizes the wishes to get more power. Gee, where have I heard the creation of others being stolen/locked away for personal greed? Know anything, Davey-boy?
Asha rounds up her friend to expose the truth. Many of them organize a way to stop this injustice while the King buy out one of their own to try and undermine them. Hmmmm. Anybody hear of any strikes that went on recently?
The climax involves the king's people collectively embracing their inner stars to stand up to the tyrant he's become. Again, strikes?
Hell, I can't help but feel like the Easter Eggs were as lowkey as they could if only so these elements could be highlighted. Surprising considering how nostalgia baiting has been en vogue lately.
But that's a grand chunk of my disorganized thoughts on a movie that I feel many will get worked up now but look back on with a touch more of appreciation. It's hardly the best movie ever and maybe a "Go Giant" ambitious film would have been a crowd pleaser.
But the movie is what it is. And I like it for what it is.

I'm currently watching Mandy because I recall you really liked it, and it's so cool to recognize so many details I find in your art and Godcleaver! It makes it even more interesting! If you feel inspired to say some things that you found particularly inspiring, I do want to hear! But you don't have to! I just wanted to thank you for making me discover this movie!
I must warn, it isn't even a "I really like it". It's a "rewired me on a level to the point of it's jsut my world". I'm glad it can be recognized as a huge influence! It's my fav movie so it's very near and dear to me, I have two old art pieces for it I did even (I might recolour the first pic and redraw the second). I'm glad you discovered it! It's really underrated for sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for inspiration? Putting it under a read more because it will be insanely rambling and spoilers but know this is like ...a movie that is so important to me and IS me
There's a lot to the film that really speaks to what you see in my art. Music being it's own breathing heaving beast, a silent participant in the plot. The use of violent visceral colours like I'm staring at a bruise under blacklight that scratches such specific parts of the brain that frames this in an alien way, even if it's "the real world". Characters not being bad got being rightously angry and it drives them to the point of frenzy.
Dead wife/sad man stories are incredibly boring but something about this really spins the framing to the point I wouldn't even say it's one of those movies. Mandy is so fleshed out and important. We know who she is, we know she's had an incredibly horrible life before we met her/she met Red, but even with it, we see the sort of quiet cool person she is. She's someone we want to know. Dead partners in movies are so bland that we really in a way can't figure why we want to avenge them. We FEEL for her, we know who she is so the weight of her dead hits harder than anything. The death scene is incredible too, where it's jsut the throbbing synth, no sounds beyond that. We the the sleeping bag shaking and thrashing and we know what's happening, but nothing is ever exploitative on her part. We view the scene through the spectators and all their winding emotions, from Red's horror, the cultist's glee, the young girl, and Jeremiah's silent anguish and hate.
Mandy's dream sequence and the scene of ehr and Red talking of the starlings, another visit into these characters worlds, says so much without forcing a backstory. Red is almost an interesting foil here. We have just enought to figure what sort of character he is. He maybe was military/para-military and he has a drinking issue (by the scenes of him refusing a beer and him looking in the bathroom for a secret vodka bottle). He's a blank enough slate though that it let's us get to be the ones to experience Mandy. He truly loves and cares for her and we get to feel it because in how he is written and how scenes between them are shot, we ARE Red, with our own issues brought in.
Now to the meat of this situation. Mandy's death really is what makes the movie special because in how it's written and even stated by Panos Cosmatos himself, she IS the film. When Mandy dies, we no longer exist in our world. Mandy has moved into a another plane. She is Galactus and has devoured our world and we live in hers. The movie's sharp grinding as we start to peak into the phantasmagorical horror shifts because Mandy is being affected. When she gets high, everything is warped. When she dies, plots are set in motion.
My aggressive belief is when Red tastes the Biker's swill, Mandy takes him over. Not to say Red wasn't first motivated in revenge! He's the one to seek out his old friend and his weapon, he forges The Beast, he drives out to fight the bikers. We see though in the face of all this, he's jsut so emotional about it. His haunting response after Mandy dies, stumbling into the house and then the howling and chugging in the bathroom. When he's chained up and nailed to the floor in the house the bikers take over, he's jsut sobbing. Even fighting those two bikers, he all mania and emotion tearing them up. The moment he tastes the swill though? Something shifts. When he faces the main biker, there's no emotion, jsut quiet stalking, until the mention of "SHE'S ...STILL ...BURNING!"
Theory continues, we see Mandy in visions from Red, these nightmare shots of her rotting away, her adrift in the lake we see them in in the beginning, and extracting a jewel from an animal's corpse. It's like she speaks from whatever void she has now taken. The book Mandy reads is made for the movie, BUT I managed to track the fake cover. A story of a man stealing the power of witches stolen from a she-wyrm. A lone female warrior trudges to stop him. Fits the theory enough. When Red finds the Chemist, inferred to the the creator of the sludge, the way he speaks to Red is interesting. We don't have enough fo Red's character to know, but we have enough of Mandy's to make this scene interesting.
Chemist: Jovan Warrior, sent forth from the eye of the storm
-Mandy mentions in the beginning of her favourite planet being Jupiter, especially because of the eternal storms. Jove was one of the many names of the Roman god Jupiter.
Chemist: Oh man, they wronged you! Why they gotta be like that? You exude a cosmic darkness ...
-This is definitely inference because, as said, it's not like Red can't experience this, but it's so pointed. Mandy, destroyed by this cult that saw something in her, and the starling story, and the dream of the dead deer fetus. Something in her sits, dark and heavy, like the music tracks.
Red does not speak this whole time, but the Chemist talks as if there's conversation. The Chemist, so shot into another existence, maybe he IS talking with Mandy, on another level we can't comprehend. He sees the folding of worlds
When we go to find the cultists, another interesting thing comes up. The one cultist who never really comes off as feeling purposeful and involved is the young girl. The one who is willing to let Jeremiah blow her head off, the one he calls for after being upset about seeing Mandy. When Red kills Swan, the girl just watches. Mandy did see her there and maybe a kindred spirit of sorts, two people violently affected by events then and now in their lives. Maybe it's because she wasn't as malicious, who knows. Maybe it's Mandy who spares.
And finally, the last confrontation ...
In a way, I think Mandy killed Jeremiah first. His seduction and obsession, trying to impress her. Mandy is sent ROCKETING with how high she is and the scene where he speaks with ehr, their faces constantly melded, some sort of different thing is happening. Sure it's style for the movie and perhaps I can't put into words, but "You're a special one, Mandy" has meaning here. When he finally sheds his coat and is front of her, naked and showing her whatever he thinks passes for the divine, she laughs. It's a chuckle into a laugh into a cackling furious howl, ebcause we're seeing she's knowing she's pissing him off ow. This moment, he's crushed in front of his constant followers. He's embarrassed. In the spirit, I think he dies here, it's the first time someone tells him no and ridicules him.
In our final confrontation, it's the first time since the sludge, we hear him speak. A garbled, laid-over second voice
"The psychotic drowns ...while the mystic swims ...
You're drowning. I'm swimming."
When ahd our last Mandy dream already happen. Mandy taking a jewel from some great beast. This is the final act of revenge, killing the last monster. Jeremiah's desperation to make it up, but there's no emotion facing this, no mania or sadness. Red crushes his head, the garbling speaking
"I am your god now"
The movie ends with Red driving off. We see Mandy next to him in the Camaro and we see a vision. A shot of teh first time they met. And with all we know and all we've seen, this is finally the end. The manic iconic grin of Red looking to her as we driveoff into this alien fantasy landscape. The final bit of the film stating they are reborn into this carnal new world. They become one here finally.
And I mean, you can add your trans narratives in here, or even just state they are trans. Something about the total take of bodies, two sharing in one body, being whatever you choose to headcanon them as. I don't remember the thoughts I had on this, will edit when I remember, but I think it's a very trans film.
We're swallowed into this world of Mandy's. I know Red wears the Tiger shirt but I think Lizzie represents Mandy more. The tiger set loose into the Pacific Northwest is jsut what it is. We're watching her and Red's love become one huge angry beast, their love isn't corrupted. A frenzy and compassion and caring between two broken people that becomes so ravenous after this trauma, it takes chunks out of this world and rebuilds it, sharpens its fangs so it can devour the violators who encroached. A winding grizzled thing that pulses like the beatof the soundtrack. I jsut think it's a cool movie, sorry for any tangents or my being incoherent when talking about it.
Stream this, sound of the summer

@mickeysgaymom OK SO WELCOME TO TODAYS INSTALLMENT OF ACHILLES THE PLAYWRIGHT. THE GANG FAKES A DEATH AGAIN!! this is long so under the cut it goes!!
one of the disappointments for me regarding s10&11 is that they totally dropped mickeys cartel storyline. like the only time its even alluded to is when mickeys being racist (toward the Mexican family living with the Gallaghers & him throwing a fucking tortilla on the ground to "make it look like Mexicans" robbed the bike shop...) but i cant imagine a drug cartel not even trying to track down someone that rolled on them. so yes i think it makes sense for mickey to fake his own death to lose some heat. obviously this would be similar to the frank plotline in s1e6&7. sorry if that sounds like ~recycling stories~ believe it or not different characters can experience the same things.
so anyway this would definitely need to be a lot more planned out and involving more people than s1. the cops would definitely need to be in on it. cue everyones fav corrupt cop: tony!!! yes i would 1000% bring tony back for this storyline. we need more than just rookie cop/bartender carl, and i imagine tony could be easily persuaded (bribed) to help out some old friends. i imagine hed gone up in rank since we last saw him in s6, which makes his cooperation even more important.
ok. phase 1: the plan. stage a murder scene somewhere mickey usually isnt at (it would be pretty odd if mickey got murdered in their apartment and then he showed back up a month later.) tony finds ian and breaks the news. im very sorry mr gallagher but i need you to come with me. theyve found a body in the Cap Sauers Holding Nature Preserve and we'd like you to come with us to identify the body. sorry ian but mickey knows youre a bad actor and didnt tell you ahead of him that his plan to get the cartel off his back included faking his death because the body cam footage wouldnt be believable at all!! bring ian and the rest of the immediate family to the precinct to meet a disguised mickey in the basement and get the dl on whats going on give statements
sorry for scaring you! i love you! no i couldnt have told you, mr play what cool, you wouldve blown the whole plan immediately! dont ask where i got the cadaver from! btw tell liam and carl i owe them big time
the story. some old friend of terrys heard the milkovich queer was moving back to the southside and wasnt too happy. him and his buddies grabbed mickey while he was walking to the L, drove him to a secluded area, and shot him with a pistol+silencer. liam an anonymous eyewitness called in the kidnapping this morning from a payphone. sandy's old fling a UIC criminology student was jogging in the reserve when she saw a shoe and what she believed to be fresh drag marks in the wet grass off the walking path. she followed it to find a gruesome scene. carl's old partner was one of the first on the scene and recognized him from the alibi. blah blah blah okay time to start phase 2.
phase 2: the funeral. this would be the most similar to s1, except with a cadaver instead of raw meat. the wake could be at the gallagher house like before (if they still own it) or they could p easily pay off a small funeral home to hold a little service. as silly funny goofy it would be to see mickey pretend to be dead like frank did, i imagine that if any cartel members did come, theyd want proof. it would be pretty suspicious if they went to cut off an ear and the body started gushing blood, so cadaver lookalike it is! makeup and maybe even prosthetics to make the body look believable. in my head, i imagine a scene of a couple cartel members coming to "pay their respects" only to find a closed casket wake. they try to "get one last look at our uhh old friend from jail" but the mourning family doesnt want to see mickeys injuries (they're scared shitless that mandy and debbies collective makeup skills arent believable enough) until a fight breaks out and the cartel guys knock over the casket. to their surprise, out rolls mickey milkovich with a hole in his head! awkward silence. debbies award winning acting skills save the day by leading the gallaghers and (very few) milkoviches in getting upset, crying and yelling at the men for "ruining a beautiful service to remember a beautiful man!!" the cartel guys awkwardly put "mickey" back in the casket and reset the scene, whispering in Spanish to each other, bickering about what the fuck they're gonna do now, before one of them decides to quickly cut off an ear, shoving it in his pocket, and closing the casket. they apologize and are forced out of the funeral home by a wave of screeching and kinda-shittily-fake-sobbing gallagher-milkoviches. the guys get their hands on crime scene photos and the body cam footage and decide yeah this bitch is dead. they have the body cremated and scattered in "mickeys favorite place" the lake for obvious reasons
phase 3: cleaning up the tracks. dont tell anyone who doesnt need to know. and DEFINITELY dont tell anyone who cant keep their mouths fucking shut. keep funeral VERY lowkey. if the wrong person hears about mickeys death and then sees him walking around totally alive later, things will get MESSY. no obituary in the paper, nothing posted on social media. take this shit to the GRAVE. NOBODY can know of this fake death plot.
as for the murder part of this? doesnt even go to trial. the idiot cops cant find the perps. just another example of negligent pigs unable to do their job. mickeys just gotta lay low and should probably finally get that last name changed. personally i love the idea of gallavich having a hyphenated last name but i think for the sake of mickeys safety, he should just drop the milkovich altogether.
ok thats pretty much it. end of episode. bye
