A swipe at a redesigned yeoman I painted this week! Personally I think it goes a bit too far, losing the design language of Marik's boombox of death in the process, but its still a cool model!

Sabretooth SB2-RT
Mass: 100 tons Chassis: Earthwerks AS IV Power Plant: Vlar 300 Cruising Speed: 32.4 kph Maximum Speed: 64.8 kph Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor: Hellespont Lite Armament: 2 ER PPC 5 Medium Pulse Laser Manufacturer: Majesty Metals and Manufacturing Primary Factory: Unknown Communication System: Tek BattleCom Targeting & Tracking System: Tek Tru-Trak Introduction Year: 3146 Tech Rating/Availability: F/X-X-X-D Cost: 16,031,000 C-bills
Overview Proposed as part of Project: BIG CAT for the Magistracy of Canopus, the Sabretooth was designed by Majesty Metals and Manufacturing in 3146 as a hardy, brutally effective brawler.
Capabilities The Sabretooth was the most troubled of the three BIG CAT designs; early drafts were unfocused and confused messes; months of prototyping went into fitting all of the necessary components onto the frame. To accomodate the bulk of all of the components, Endo Steel was escewed in favor of more traditional materials. The 'Mech is armed with two Clan-spec ERPPCs for long range, mysteriously supplied in the same way as the Yaguara's large lasers. For closer ranges, the machine mounts five medium pulse lasers, all across the top half of the 'Mech, as well as two massive claws. These giant blades are capable of decapitating a mech in a single swipe, making the Sabretooth a terrifying force up close.
Deployment The Sabretooth is used among the Magistracy Armed Forces in much the same manner as an Atlas--find a target, approach, and make that target cease to exist, while shrugging off as much fire as possible. Indeed, the Assault 'Mech's snarling visage is starting to develop a reputation all its own.
Type: Sabretooth Technology Base: Mixed (Standard) Tonnage: 100 Battle Value: 2,547

And here's the final of the three Project: BIG CAT designs! This one has...wow, that's a lot of armor. A LOT of armor. And can swipe your head off in one punch if you're not careful! Yikes. I'm glad I'm on the same side as these things.

Guillotine in my custom color scheme (now with basing!)
Presumably a GLT-3N or a GLT-8D variant on account of the lasers.

If you think about it Battletech is far darker than Warhammer 40k. 40k is obviously science fantasy, extremely so. There are magic powers, literal demons, and eldritch forces. It is also cruel and unusual to the point of absurdity.
Meanwhile Battletech's horrors are mundane. Besides the main conceit of the setting, the giant robots, everything else is fairly grounded. Even the FTL is stringent in its implementation.
Battletech is so dark because it postulates that even if Humanity spreads itself across the stars, we can never escape the problems of the present and past. We will never escape inequality, being ruled over by so-called elites, the general population is strung along by oligarchs, corporations will exploit and corrupt anything and everything to turn a profit, a limitless military industrial complex that sustains a never ending series of wars that are fought over to see which inbred 'noble' House gets to rule over the irradiated ashes of planets that have been warred over for centuries.
Tumblr media
Everything in Battletech is self inflicted. There are no intelligent, advanced aliens, ancient evils or divine powers. Humanity took to the stars and war followed us there. Cursed to fight and bleed ourselves dry forever.

3, 6, 9 for the asks? Dunno how applicable typical sibling dynamics are in clan culture but answer if it works
— @karriethemechtech
3. I do not tend to spend much money, if I am honest. Not in large quantities. I put away or invested much of the monetary compensation I earned during my time with the Fusiliers, and I still have much of it (barring certain investments that fell through in the Jihad or in the days after Grey Monday). It has been sitting, collecting interest mostly.
(OOC: Melissa is probably, by now, one of the richest people in the Inner Sphere. Certainly in Top 500 on the equivalent of the Forbes "Richest People" list, and most definitely some flavor of multi-billionaire. It just... doesn't mean that much to her, to be honest. A lot more has been donated over the decades to various charities.)
6. There is no true equivalent to sibling dynamics with Trueborn. We have those of our sibko, who often fill a similar role as siblings might, but often only until we reach adolescence and test into being warriors. As well, there is little of the sibling taboos which occur in freeborn society - often a young Clanners first coupling partner of their sibko, and it often continues even past one's Trial of Position and leaving the sibko.
After the Trial of Position, the importance of the sibko dynamic lessens for many. Not for all, however, and certainly not for myself and the other Sixteen; we essentially stayed a sibko for an extra decade while filming Tails of Strana Mechty. We have remained extremely close for well over a century, even with three of us leaving for Terra after the ilClan Trial. We have also added, or hope to add, new members to our "sibko", namely Katrina (@starcolonelkatrinamoon) and eventually, all the new Totem Warriors of the ilClan's New Clan Project, which currently includes Sealth (@killer-orca-cosplay).
9. My favorite holiday remains Founding Day, August 24. It was date settled on to commemorate the SLDF-in-Exile finally reaching the Pentagon Worlds, including Eden, the ancestral home of my Clan. It was once a time of truce for the Clans, and the Clans only, but over the decades, as we grew more intimately intertwined with Spheroid and Periphery populations, it has been been extended to them as well, though notably, not pirates and other criminals.
I am told that the ilKhan may have something, or several somethings, special planned for next year's Founding Day.

Cheetah CHT-1A
Mass: 30 tons Chassis: Earthwerks PXH IV Endo Steel Power Plant: Ceres Motors 240 XL Cruising Speed: 86.4 kph Maximum Speed: 172.8 kph Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor: Hellespont Lite Armament: 1 Large Pulse Laser Manufacturer: Majesty Metals and Manufacturing Primary Factory: Unknown Communication System: Tek BattleCom Targeting & Tracking System: Tek Tru-Trak Introduction Year: 3146 Tech Rating/Availability: E/X-X-X-D Cost: 7,777,250 C-bills
Overview Proposed as part of Project: BIG CAT for the Magistracy of Canopus, the Cheetah was designed by Majesty Metals and Manufacturing in 3146 as a fast, durable, and modernized scout 'Mech.
Capabilities Though not in form, in function the Cheetah most closely resembles the Star League's venerable Hussar design. Featuring a similar armament of only a single large pulse laser, the Cheetah is lightly armed, though it makes up for it with a pair of 'Mech-scale claws. Powered by a Supercharged Ceres Motors 240 XL engine, the 'Mech is blisteringly fast, capable of running almost 173 kph in a sprint; combined with its 4.5 tons of Hellespont Lite Ferro Fibrous armor, the Cheetah is makes for a very survivable scout and forward operative.
Type: Cheetah Technology Base: Inner Sphere (Standard) Tonnage: 30 Battle Value: 735
Equipment Mass Internal Structure Endo Steel 1.5 Engine 240 XL 6 Walking MP: 8 Running MP: 12(16) Jumping MP: 0 Double Heat Sink 10 [20] 0 Gyro 3 Cockpit 3 Armor Factor (Light Ferro) 76 4.5 Internal Armor Structure Value Head 3 9 Center Torso 10 10 Center Torso (rear) 3 R/L Torso 7 10 R/L Torso (rear) 2 R/L Arm 5 6 R/L Leg 7 9

Features the following design quirks: Animalistic Appearance, Narrow/Low Profile
Behold! Canopus marches--this is one of the 'Mechs the MAF recently introduced. I've been told they sent a few over to join the operation; lights aren't really my thing but I'm still excited. It's a pretty solid machine!
I'll get you information on the rest of Project: BIG CAT as I can.
