WEEK 1
hi!!! Jiya Manubarwala here!
I'm from CP Goenka International School, Oshiwara, studying in AS level, and I've taken media studies as a subject. Why'd I choose this subject? Well, it's pretty interesting, for one. I've also always had a love for photography, scripts, different camera shots, and how movies are made; the things that happen behind the camera.
What we've done so far in media studies is learn about different camera shots, angles, and movements. We also practiced how to use the camera and take the shots.
The project that we have to do this year is to create a 2 minute opening scene of a film. My classmates and i will be divided into groups and work together. Through this blog, I will be documenting the process of making the 2 minute opening scene.

Music video analysis of imagine dragons - Bones :
The American born Las Angeles band Imagine Dragons song ‘Bones’   uses a balanced  mix of narrative and performance  through out there music video. The song bones , witch is act 2 of there mercury album features a zombie out brake in an office high rise on wall street. The this dose link to some themes in the lyrics such as ‘ there goes my mind ‘ and ‘I’m losing all control’ however it dose not follow the lyrics in entirety and rather focused on these themes. The genre of the song falls in line with most of the albums produced by the alternative rock band as being pop rock. The video tells the story of a successful wall Street stock broker  trapped in an office were everyone one is turning into a zombie , this takes inspiration and draws themes from both wolf of walls street and thriller in style. It appeals to both a young audience through the use of trendy videography and to an older audience through the use of its intertextuality. It is not a common performance video and is definitely individual in style giving it unique aspects and increasing re-watchability
The video opens with a high definition long shot of the New York city , this works well to establish the scene as New York has connotation of being the ‘big  apple’ and the central hub of American activity and wealth. This is then followed by a high angle close-mid shot of lead singer Dan Reynolds playing the role of a stereotypical wealthy stock broker , this shot is unusual as we see him appear to be shown in a bad light , asleep at his deck and having a bad dream. Conventionally music video try to always show the bad in a positive perception but the use of performance her allows for a wider range of videography styles and shots. We are then shown a montage of fast past shots of the stock brokers success shown in wide shots of the large office , close ups on watches and other desk items. Contrasting this success is  the use of alternate shots of some scenes  witch depict the same shot but in darker lighting and setting a darker mood , This is done to suggest that life isn’t all as good and successful as being suggested .
After this the shot pace increases and we are shown some of the workers in the office starting to turn to zombies , this is highlighted by the increased uses of close up shots of the face of Dan Reynolds character suggesting he is the only one that is noticing what is happening to the other employees .We also see shots of the rest of the band mixed amongst the large cast as other office workers
The video then turns on a pivotal point  were we see the colour change dramatically from the greys and typical office lighting , to a enhanced red and bright fluorescent lighting , This is done to suggest the like the office lighting the employees have all ganged as we now see wide shots of the office showing that all the employees have turned to zombies. Here we also see direct address in a close up of Dan Reynolds character showcasing his disturbed emotions and fear of what is happening ,
The video then continues with a montage of the zombies dancing in the office drawing references from Michael Jackson’s ‘thriller’ witch also depicts dancing zombies , this is cut between  closeups of dan Reynolds character escaping from the zombies around the brightly neon light office .
The last shot starts as the final rendition of the chorus starts with ‘im losing all control ‘ ‘ I got this feeling in my bones ‘ as we see that Dan Reynolds character has turned to a zombie and now joined the other employees and the rest of the band as infected dancing in the centre of the large office space before ending with the zombies swarming him and decapitating his head to leave it reciting the last lines of the course in the final mid shot of the video .

my relationship with social media
Hi!! my name is Chomnaard Gallahan, people call me Chom, I am a student at Kajonkiet International School,Phuket. Welcome to my AS Level media studies page :D
A young teen whose been living on an island her whole life, raised by a single mom. I am half Thai American. Growing up with an extremely strict Asian mom, I will always have to have my phone on and charged, I will always have to answer my mom's texts in a blink of an eye. People always want to connect themselves to society, that is partly the reason they use social media. Personally, I use social media to communicate with my friends and family. along with, keeping up with what is going on in the world.
There are multiple selections for apps. I use Netflix, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and Messenger the most. I only use Netflix and TikTok as entertainment when I am bored for the most part. With new apps popping up every day it can be difficult to figure out which social media platforms are the most useful and valuable. As you can see, I am with both sides, even though we can talk to people halfway across the country, it could be friends or family.
There are positive and negative consequences to technology. The Internet has made everyone's life easier. And it is easier to catch up on the news using technology so you do not have to go buy a newspaper. The negative is that people get so addicted and do not follow up on time so it goes on until they do not realize what is going on in their society. Though, technology can make us lazy and disconnected. I could say technology is overrated but while saying that, I am in an air-conditioned room writing this on my laptop. As you can see, I am with both sides, even though we can talk to people halfway across the country, it could be friends or family. Technology has made it so much easier for me to just send a text to my friends and can talk to them right away. rather than sending a letter and by the time it arrives I will be forgetting the topic I talked about.
I am both a media producer/in this case content creator and an audience member. It started off with musical.ly  by making lip-syncing videos for viral audio. At the time, I had about 4k followers, which seems like a lot but so many other people had a lot more. After, On August 2018 Byte Dance consolidated the user accounts of Musical.ly  and TikTok, merging the 2 apps into one and keeping the title TikTok. Later, I kept posting things on “TikTok” but my views kept going down. For some reason, my videos kept getting banned because of “minor safety” when I was just showing my collar bone and I did not care and kept going. It has come to the point where TikTok permanently banned me so I had to make a new account. It has been 4 years, and I have never gotten many views since. In social media like these, there are cancel cultures as well where people find pictures and videos from the past of famous people on TikTok and use them to post on social media as what they call “clout.” It becomes viral and whoever feels threatened by it, sends hate or even death threats to them. Social media has been very toxic and it creates the image of people and ruins it.

"Feminism Is for Everybody: Passionate Politics" by bell hooks
“A genuine feminist politics always brings us from bondage to freedom, from lovelessness to loving….There can be no love without justice.” – from the chapter “To Love Again: The Heart of Feminism”
Acclaimed cultural critic bell hooks offers an open-hearted and welcoming vision of gender, sexuality, and society in this inspiring and accessible volume. In engaging and provocative style, bell hooks introduces a popular theory of feminism rooted in common sense and the wisdom of experience. Hers is a vision of a beloved community that appeals to all those committed to equality, mutual respect, and justice. hooks applies her critical analysis to the most contentious and challenging issues facing feminists today, including reproductive rights, violence, race, class, and work. With her customary insight and unsparing honesty, hooks calls for a feminism free from divisive barriers but rich with rigorous debate. In language both eye-opening and optimistic, hooks encourages us to demand alternatives to patriarchal, racist, and homophobic culture, and to imagine a different future.
bell hooks is the author of numerous critically acclaimed books on the politics of race, gender, class, and culture. A frequent lecturer in the United States and abroad, she is Distinguished Professor of English at City College, City University of New York.

Welcome Back!
Hii everyone! Ik it's been so long... I started this blog as a part of the school portfolio for Media Studies. Today I happened to look back at all that we had learnt with our teacher and realized how much I actually regret not continuing this blog alongside my college work.
Tumblr media
Honestly school taught me much more than what I have learnt as of now from college...so I am restarting this blog to ensure that I keep a track for myself and store all knowledge that I am gaining in the field of Media here.
Okkk.... so I have completed my first semester at college and am doing Bachelor's in Mass Media Communication!! I will be posting (or shitposting) what I am learning new on various media and graphics apps and regular classes as well. Mostly it will be around Adobe edits and Social Media Management that I am doing through @social_journey_ on Instagram (do check it out!)

Storyboards and screenplays:
A storyboard is a graphic organizer that consists of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence.
creating a storyboard for our project:
(storyboard)
Screenplay:
a screenplay is a written work by screenwriters for a film or television show; they can be original or adaptations. It is a way of storytelling, a way to showcase dialogues and actions through text and creative writing.
(screenplay pic)
Screenplay involves 2 types: one of them being a Director's screenplay and the other an Actor's screenplay.
Director's screenplay: It is what the shoot will be about; everything that will happen on set. it includes many technical terms and is detailed.
Actor's screenplay: it is everything that the actor needs to play his/her role on set.

Being a professional athlete and a full time student
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being a full professional athlete and a full time student is harder than people think. We have different routines, lifestyles, diet, etc.
Firstly, many do not know how exhausting it is to wake up at 4am everyday, eat breakfast, and go straight to training. Get out the pool, then off to school, then back to training again. I've been following this routine for the past 6 years, every day, without missing a beat. It can be hard to juggle school, extracurriculars, and sport because each requires so much time. Time is the one thing that student athletes cannot get enough of; as hard as I work to keep my grades up and keep my all-important starting positions on my team, there simply are not enough hours in a day to cram in everything that needs to be done. Training takes a toll out of me, sometimes I get extremely frustrated because of how I'm not understanding in classes. I get pressure from everybody around me; my coach, my parents and mainly teachers and sometimes I don't understand why. No matter how much I explain to them that I'm swimming for my country, they still wouldn't careless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maintaining a balanced schedule is hard for many, but it is especially hard for student athletes who have to find time to do their homework, turn in assignments on time, study for tests, and attend mandatory practices. All of these necessities can make it overbearing at times. Being dedicated to a sport means putting in lots of time and effort. Us student athletes know what it means to love their sports, which is why I are prepared to sacrifice so much time and energy into it. Regardless of how hard school gets or how frustrating it is to miss out on school events and being unable to hang out with friends it is all worth it as long as it pays off in the end.

"Men Who Hate Women and Women Who Kick Their Asses"Edited by Donna King and Carrie Lee Smith
Feminist takes on depictions of violence against women and changing gender roles in Stieg Larsson’s thrillers
Stieg Larsson was an unabashed feminist in his personal and professional life and in the fictional world he created, but The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest are full graphic depictions of violence against women, including stalking, sexual harassment, child abuse, rape, incest, serial murder, sexual slavery, and sex trafficking, committed by vile individual men and by corrupt, secretive institutions. How do you readers and moviegoers react to these depictions, and what do they make of the women who fight back, the complex masculinities in the trilogy, and the ambiguous gender of the elusive Lisbeth Salander? These lively and accessible essays expand the conversation in the blogosphere about the novels and films by connecting the controversies about gender roles to social trends in the real world. The magic of an actual DAY OFF! Went with Mum ( @swordskimberly ) to the @vangogh.experience and had a great time! It was a little disappointing how much of his life was glossed over and how adamant the creator was about the Suicide Theory (which more and more research suggests was NOT what happened), but it was still a terrific experience!
