Causes of drug-induced lupus
SHIP
Sulfasalazine & Sulfonamide Hydralazine Isoniazid Procainamide & Phenytoin
This is by no means a definitive list (they are many!) but these are some of the most common causes.

I don’t like the new narrator on Sketchy. His voice is too fake chipper, and his jokes suck. It’s very annoying.

When someone suggests you take an antipsychotic because you're "schizotypal," what they are really saying is, "there is a thing called'schizophrenia' in which people lose all their thought processes and stop being able to talk and think at all, and some of these people are'schizotypal,' which means that they're like you, with slightly less severe symptoms."
But there is no reason to believe that the "you" with slightly less severe symptoms is just a "mild" or "low-grade" form of the same underlying, "serious" condition
It is more likely that it is, in fact, the exact same thing (and probably a subspecies, or a different type of the same subspecies), but with the milder symptoms caused by an imperfect drug-induced version of the same process
It is this very fact that makes antipsychotics like risperidone useful: because it is an imperfect version of the process, it helps people do what is necessary to get a little better, and to maintain the improvement, even if their thinking is a little out of control
This does not make antipsychotics like risperidone morally permissible, or "soft" drugs, because their benefits are conditional: "you have this condition, you need this drug to do this to you so you can be less bad, this doesn't cure you but it helps, this isn't a cure, it will stop working after a while if you don't stick with it"
Also, the actual people this drug is used to help are people who would be "cured" by the much more effective (and dangerous) drugs that are currently being used
These drugs have been used to "cure" mental illness in general for almost as long as people have been talking about the thing, and they are known to have many many terrible side effects and long-lasting negative aftereffects. Most people think this is enough, that if you say "there is something like this" then you are supposed to say "you can cure yourself of this by taking these drugs," not "you can sometimes use these drugs to treat this, but they have serious limitations."
They don't believe it's a good idea to take these drugs, because it's better to be totally and permanently cured of mental illness than to be less so, but antipsychotic drugs are a step in that direction, and it's right to try, and to try more if the drugs are as good as the data seem to show
That's what the "low-grade / mildly / sub-type "schizophrenia" talk is about -- "this is better than the alternative, but because it's only better than it in this respect, it's not enough"
As an analogy: I don't think I have schizophrenia, but I do have Tourette's, and one time I had a bad tic day in the middle of the day and came home and felt like I had Tourette's, like my thoughts were all kind of jerky and abrupt and disordered, and I felt that this was actually a reasonable metaphor for schizophrenia, and it turned out to be a good analogy. But I don't think schizophrenia is an experience that anyone who has never had it could accurately model, and while there is some good in having this metaphor in your mind, there would have been a lot more good if the metaphor had not been applied, and the concrete experience had been described more rather than less
Antipsychotics, even the so-called "mild" ones, do not offer that luxury, because the drugs just don't work for everyone. And it's okay. I've had the experience of thinking that there was a "better alternative" but it was more confusing to have the thought not have had, so it's okay that not everyone gets to take them
I've gotten a lot better since I first heard the "mild" language, but this is because my actual thoughts are somewhat better, and it's just that some people's thoughts are more disordered than mine are, and some people's thoughts work more poorly for them (in the same way that some people have worse Tourette's, or the flu, or whatever else)
These people are better off using drugs than thinking they're better off without drugs, even if their thinking is disordered and disorganized enough that they need drugs. There is no way to just "think better" except by treating your condition as it actually is, and for the same reason, there is no way to just "stay on the milder pills"
It's not the same, but it's an equally "serious" problem in a different way, and that's why some people need to be using the "mild" drugs, and some other people need the "serious" ones.
This is probably also true for a lot of other psychiatric drugs, but I don't know as much about the others, and what I do know is that "serious" is no more or less valid a concept than "mild."

Tumblr media
Smoker, majoring in Criminal Justice, embodies the essence of a "no-nonsense roommate," maintaining a room that reflects military precision in its impeccable organization and strict "no clutter" policy. Unleashing his wrath is not advised.
A punctual roommate, Smoker is always on time for everything, from classes to laundry, showcasing his commitment to discipline and order.
Beyond his room's physical discipline, Smoker takes on the role of the de facto organizer of the shared home. His talent for planning and coordination extends to home logistics and meticulously planned road trips.
During finals, Smoker transforms into a reliable study partner, demonstrating a disciplined approach that proves invaluable for those seeking constructive criticism during group study sessions and exam preparations.

Law, the quiet and mysterious roommate, immerses himself in his own world surrounded by medical textbooks and anatomy diagrams, reflecting his major in Medicine.
A go-to person for minor injuries and health concerns, Law's medical knowledge becomes particularly appreciated during stressful exam seasons or, for some, PMS woes.
Law's hidden quirky sense of humor occasionally surfaces, catching roommates off guard with unexpected jokes and sarcastic comments, often shared in passing in the kitchen.
While Law may not actively organize study sessions, his room remains a haven for consultations, offering a quiet space for focused discussions despite the closed door.
Tumblr media
Corazon
In university, Corazon studies art, transforming the room into a mini art gallery with his side adorned with paintings, sketches, and various craft projects.
Hosting small gatherings for art sessions, Corazon's free-spirited nature influences roommates to discover their own creative sides, fostering an atmosphere of self-expression.
Corazon assumes the role of peacemaker within the roommate group, mediating conflicts and promoting a harmonious living environment.
During exam season, Corazon's calming presence transforms the room into a serene space. As a sought-after study companion, he breaks down complex topics and, if unable to assist with content, ensures study breaks are accompanied by snacks.
Tumblr media
Doflamingo
Doflamingo, majoring in performing arts, infuses the room with his flamboyance, turning it into a vibrant and bold space with colorful decorations and ever-changing styles.
The eccentric and flamboyant roommate, Doflamingo's outgoing personality doesn't overshadow his surprising focus when tackling studies, often burning the midnight oil on ambitious projects.
The room becomes a hub for extravagant parties, establishing it as the go-to spot for social gatherings on campus.
Doffy's unconventional study methods include impromptu motivational speeches and mnemonic devices. Those who can't handle the drama are advised to steer clear to save themselves from potential headaches.
Tumblr media
Shachi and Penguin
Shachi and Penguin, nursing majors and childhood friends, bring a laid-back and easygoing vibe to the living space, filling their rooms with comics, CDs, and musical instruments.
The dynamic duo turns mundane activities into adventures, infusing a playful energy into everything from grocery shopping to doing laundry.
Despite their carefree demeanor, Shachi and Penguin are incredibly supportive friends, always ready to assist with assignments or lend an ear during late-night chats.
Their laid-back attitude extends to studying, making the experience enjoyable. With Shachi's logical approach complementing Penguin's creative thinking, they offer a well-rounded study experience as deadlines approach.

I was tagged by the ever-great @post-futurism, and am thrilled to jump back into one of these!
Last Song: Go On - The Tights. I'm listening to their discography after moving on from the near-entirety of XTC. Jury is still out, but I appreciate that they brought late-90s and Y2K moody nostalgia even before the gurnge-goth of that era was even close to being dated.
Favourite colour: Burgundy! All shades! No exceptions! I'm also fond of deep emerald greens, olive greens, navy blue, and dusty rose pinks. Historically I adored purple, but I'm less into it now, and am not into it when it veers into blue territory (though I'm definitely into indigo).
Last movie/TV show: The last film I completed was The Holdovers and I was a predictably easy target. It nigh instantaneously became a favourite. Technically, my last watched film was The Moon by Takashi Ito, but I wouldn't call that a movie, per se, as much as it's an impressionistic short and abstraction of thoughts, images, and memory.
I usually watch multiple films simultaneously, but my go-to streaming sites all lost the option for subtitles within the last 24 hours. I have never experienced anything more miserable. How else am I supposed to be able to watch these at 4x speed?!?!
Telveision-wise, I've been watching Fargo season one, Twin Peaks (1989), and keeping up with the new season of Abbott Elementary.
Sweet/spicy/savoury: Spicy and Savoury. Separate and combined, they are both dear lovers.
Relationship status: non pertinet
Last thing that I googled: Tofu marinade recipe for airfryer. Also Hal Ashby. Both in the same google session. Weird day.
Current obsession: I've returned to Garth Nix's work and am indulging my dive back into The Old Kingdom series. I'm also refreshing my grasp of criminal law, Contitutional Law, and police misconduct. I finished a read-through of the Constitution and am trying to solidify my mnemonics for the Bill of Rights! Also, most recently, hating Larian and grieving for my prior high opinion of them and my naivete.
Last book: Last completed was Lirael (Garth Nix) and I'm currently reading Piranesi (Susanna Clarke) and Orientalism (Edward Said)
Looking forward to: Getting my financial assistance for medical bills situated (again), and an upcoming chili/soup cook-off at my place of work (which I intend to sweep, with the promised assistance of my team).
I'm so glad you tagged me! Your blog has been a constant inspiration and your taste is both fire and the terrifying depths of the ocean to me, it's fantastic, your posts never fail to have a dreamlike quality!
Tagging @honeybite @phasesixer @regenerating @wizardpink @notwiselybuttoowell @lordgroose @iwilleatyourenglish @baddiez @bubble-bobble @purplefairies@wine-dark-sea@cursedamulet@scarletswalking@antidoteforreality
and any other mutual I neglected (I am so, so sorry, I have been sleepless and my memory has been fuzzier than usual)
also feel free to do this even if you're not tagged, I am not trying to be exclusive necessarily!

hi! do you have any advice for spells n things i can do to improve focus & luck going into finals? anything specifically studying-related? ❤️
Absolutely! It's a blend of practical and magical stuff, like most of my advice for these situations.
First, the practicals. Have a particular flavor of gum or mint or hard candy to keep you company when you're studying. Have it again on test day - the flavor and scent will help with recollection. If you're not partial to these things or if they're not allowed in the testing room, use a drop or two of a particular scent for the same effect.
(Note: Though it might seem tempting, do not use essential oils directly on the skin for this purpose. Use a perfume or body spray instead, or apply the scent to a garment or accessory that you can have with you on exam day. Something subtle that will jog your memory but won't bother your neighbors or give anyone a headache, for courtesy's sake.)
Try not to have too many distractions or interruptions during study time and don't leave things to the last minute (this is a hard one, I know). If you can't absorb information strictly through reading, try to find an audio or video resource to supplement. Come up with your own mnemonic devices for difficult formulas or points that you know will be on the exam. If you can find any of the relevant facts set to music, try and memorize the song. That always helped me a lot since tunes tend to stick in my memory.
Get plenty of rest the night before so that you don't wake up groggy. If you take medication, make sure you take it on time. Hydrate well, but not so much that you have to go to the bathroom urgently. If you drink coffee or tea in the morning, beware of a caffeine crash halfway through the test and try to time things accordingly. If the examiner will let you have a drink in the testing room, use a clear container so you can't be accused of cheating. Eat a light breakfast with protein in it before the exam so that you have calories to work with but you don't get that full/sleepy feeling. And then take yourself to brunch once the testing is done.
On the magical side, you can set a favorite crystal or stone on your desk while you're studying, then keep it in your pocket during the test. I don't know if instructors these days allow fidgets, but a few people I knew in college used to have worry stones that they would have in hand while they studied and then would bring on exam days. The tactile sensation of the stone was another recall device.
A charm of rosemary and peppermint can help. Put some in a sachet bag and keep it on your desk while studying, then tuck it into your pocket before the exam. Some witches I know use rose quartz or sodalite for this purpose as well, either on their own or with the herbs in the charm bag. If you have another kind of lucky charm, you can use that too.
Let me leave you with a bit of advice as well - the best kind of luck comes from foresight and planning. By all means, hedge your bets with magic if you like, but make sure you're wagering on solid preparation first and foremost.
Hope this helps and good luck on your finals!

I just want to talk about what we know about what life is like for human biotics! I am aware that this reads as if I was talking to myself in a hypomanic episode. this is because I was.
We get a lot of interesting info from Kaidan, who was exposed in utero in flight 714 incident at singapore int'l spaceport on april 8 of 2151. He was fitted with an L2 implant at 17 (2168). If Shep is biotic, they were exposed in utero (2153-54) + at age 14; They were fitted with an L3 implant at age 17. which by the way literally how bc they were a minor at the time and there was no official biotics program at the time since BaAT was shut down, plus it was before Grissom Academy. ROTC type program maybe?
ANYWAY We know that biotics just tend to be more... static-y(?) in general. They tend to get small shocks from touching metal objects. Kaidan actually has a little throwaway line that his hair stands up a little on its own so he doesn't need to style it. the mass relay statue on the presidium makes his teeth feel funny and he hears a low humming sound, maybe this can be felt around eezo or large quantities of electricity in general?
On the day to day, it's really important for biotics to keep their amp ports clean, kinda like any medical port we have today. Due to their metabolism burning through calories to provide energy for biotics, they may have what could be considered symptoms of hypermetabolic disorders. Gaining and maintaning weight may be challenging, they're probably prone to anemia, and often feel hot/sweaty.
Typically there are only a few biotics in a unit. This is likely due to the expenses related to them. They need more food, amps, medical observation, and armor that is protective yet flexible enough for them to perform their physical mnemonics. Ironically though, they work best in groups where they can synchronize their abilities.
As we know, there tends to be prejudice and ostracization from other humans. There was even one instance where a biotic was attacked and killed by mob who was scared of them. There's a lot of misinformation about what they are capable of and fear from the general public, including organizations refusing to pay reparations to biotics they abused in their research. This is sort of the origin of biotic extremist groups.
I wonder if they face these issues in the Alliance. Of course publically, the alliance welcomes them and offers them huge enlistment incentives. and they aren't locked out of careers, their options of where they are accepted is mainly limited to the military. It's totally possible that on the day to day, alliance officers and crew distrust them.
i imagine that since biotics basically fire up your nervous system, it can make you feel overwhelmed or anxious, which is probably the source of psychological distressed that many L2's developed. It's also known that biotics kinda like glow during sex. By that logic I’d think biotics can also flare up with strong emotions or physical pain.
Government registration is necessary if the mission involving major kyle and chairman burns goes sour. Though I'd always imagine this is something the government would want to keep track of anyway for census, public health, and military recruitment reasons.
not 100% sure on some sources but hit post send anyway

Hello everyone,
Today I had my cardiology exam, which I have to say was very satisfying. I want to share with you some tips that I used to prepare for this exam and learn how to give a medical report of an EKG.
First of all, I think classes are fundamental for this course. I loved cardiology since it is a conceptual subject rather than a mnemonic one. Try to understand the physiopathology of cardiovascular diseases from the beginning. You will spend time learning details later, but I think it is vital to keep up with the main concepts to understand the following and arrive at the end of lessons with solid fundamentals.
As for the EKGs, practice is essential so try to exercise every day, even for a few minutes. I found it very useful to study "Rapid Interpretation of EKGs" by Dubin and Dale, but "The only EKG book you'll ever need" by Thaler is a good source too.
Also, there are many helpful sites, such as this: https://www.skillstat.com/tools/ecg-simulator. Instagram pages with clinical cases are valid as well.
Try to understand what every wave and complex of the EKG means, and do not limit yourself to learning every pattern by heart.
Concerning the cardio surgery part, I had the opportunity to attend the operating theatre of cardiovascular surgery and Arithmology. Ask your teachers if you have this chance: you do not have anything to lose, and you may find an available professor who will teach you much more than a written book.
If you do not have this possibility, look for Youtube videos of the procedures.
Whatever you do, don't limit yourself to studying surgery only on written material: it will be difficult and frustrating.
Also, I found it essential to make schemes. I do not always do it because it is very time-expensive, but this time there was so much information that I felt the need to organise it. For each disease, identify the pathogenesis, the aetiology, the main findings at physical examination, the EKG pattern, the diagnostic test you should do and the therapy.
Last, I found vital to recall all the topics out loud many times, also inverting the order: it easier to remember the clinical manifestation of aortic stenosis if you just revised the patophysiology, but it might be more arduous to remember the EKG pattern first.
Basically, that's it. Cardiology was one of my favorite exam in my med school career so far, so let me know if you find these tips beneficial or if you would add anything.
And good luck to anyone for the exams! 🍀🍀
