When and where will the second coming of the prophet Isa (Jesus) take place?

Prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him), known in the Bible as Jesus Christ, occupies a special place in Islam. The unique role of Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) is manifested in the fact that he is the only prophet who will visit the earth twice - before his ascension and on the Day of Judgment. And secondly, the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) will complete the cycle of human history and establish the kingdom of goodness and justice on sinful earth.

According to Islamic ideas, the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) was not crucified on the cross (as it is written in the Bible), but was raised straight to the Almighty. Everything that we have learned from the Qur'an clearly indicates to us that the prophet Isa (m.e.) did not die during the crucifixion, but was raised up to Allah. In particular, after a false denunciation by his ill-wishers to the Roman authorities that the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) was supposedly going to become the king of independent Judea, the house of the messenger of the Almighty was surrounded by soldiers. At this time, Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) was with twelve or thirteen of his companions. At the call of the prophet, one of his disciples voluntarily agreed to be martyred instead of Isa (peace and blessings be upon him).

And the Almighty changed his appearance to the appearance of a messenger, so that they became completely similar. Then a hole opened in the roof of the house and Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) fell into a slumber. In this state, he ascended to heaven, as the Almighty said about it.

“Here Allah said: “O Isa! I will give you rest and lift you up to Myself. I will cleanse you from those who did not believe, and I will raise those who followed you until the Day of Resurrection over those who did not believe” (Quran 3:55) Thus, the Koranic interpretation of the disappearance and reappearance of the prophet Isa-Jesus Christ on Earth looks more logical, consistent and, oddly enough, more plausible than the biblical version of those events.

However, in the Koran, special attention is paid to the second coming of the prophet Isa to Earth, which should be no less important event than the first stage of his earthly life.

“And there will be peace on me on the day I was born, and on the day of my death, and on the [Judgment] day when I will be resurrected” (Sura “Maryam”, 19:33)

If we compare this verse with verse 55 of Sura Al ‘Imran 3, quoted a little higher, then it is also emphasized that the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) did not die and, therefore, did not resurrect. In Sura Al ‘Imran, the ascension of Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) to the Almighty is indicated, and in verse 33 of Sura “Maryam” it is about the end of the earthly path of the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him). Thus, it is once again emphasized that his death will come only after his repeated return to the earthly world, and to the Earth and a certain period of life on it.

The second appearance of the prophet Isa will be one of the signs of the impending Judgment Day: “Verily, he (‘Isa) is a sign of the [Judgment] hour. Do not doubt it at all and follow Me. This is the right way” (Sura Az Zuhruf, 43:61). Regarding his place of ascension to Earth, there are two versions. The first most popular: it will descend to Earth near the southwestern minaret of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

Considering that the date of Judgment Day is absolutely unknown to anyone on Earth except the Almighty himself, the imam of this mosque every day lays a new carpet under the minaret at the site of the alleged arrival of the prophet Isa. It is believed that the second coming of the Prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) will take place on the eve of the battle between Muslims and Dajjal. Isa will come at dawn during the morning prayer on the day of the Muslims' march. “They will prepare for battle and stand up for prayer. At the moment of reading the Iqama, Isa will come ”(Muslim, Fitan 34, 2897). "He will wear two robes the color of the earth."

The hadith narrated from the words of Jabir says that the leader of the Muslims will approach him and offer him to stand in the place of the imam and conduct a prayer, but Isa will refuse (Muslim, Iman 247) and “stand up for prayer behind him” like all other believers. According to the second version, the place of the alleged return of the Messenger of Allah is the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Palestine.

His coming to Earth is also one of the signs of the imminent coming of the Day of Judgment. “The appearance of him (Isa) announced the [Judgment] hour” (Quran, 43: 61). Its main role will no longer be prophetic; he will be guided by the Quran sent down by the Almighty through his last messenger - the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Having descended, the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) will kill the Dajjal-Antichrist and, thanks to the prayer of Isa to God, humanity will be saved from the invasion of Yajuj and Majuj. After that, he will become the ruler and establish a just world order, poverty and social inequality will be defeated. The People of the Book (Jews and Christians) will no longer exist. after his second coming, any doubts about the origin and role of the prophet in the fate of mankind will disappear. That is, even the People of the Book recognize the truth of Islam and the Koran.

All events related to the second coming of Isa are given in the authoritative collections of hadiths of the prophet Muhammad.

One of the authentic hadiths of Ibn-i Abbas says that the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him), being young, was ascended to heaven at the beginning of a 30-year period (in the view of the Christian Bible, this is 33 years), but after his return to earth he will stay there for another 40 years. Most Islamic theologians, relying on this hadith, conclude that the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) will meet his old age precisely after his repeated return to earth, and consider this verse as another proof of his upcoming arrival. True, how long he will stay on Earth before his death, there is no consensus.

It is believed that after his death, the prophet Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) will be buried in Medina next to the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). In the mosque of the Prophet, a place has already been allocated for the future grave of Isa.
