Since netflix has to have a certain percentage of canadian shows now I'm watching more canadian tv and a lot of these shows are just dropped all at once and what I'm saying is I'm binge watching a hospital show with ghosts that aired in 2012 and it's not bad

If the length of a traversal is measured in real-time by tracking the time-buoy as it travels across the Mediun, are the lengths of months determined through a checkpoint system?
If a traversal, which is suggested to function essentially like a year (yes, I know years are sometimes referred to), is how long this buoy takes to travel from point A to point B, then how else would you derive the month subdivisions? It's gotta be checkpoints because I can't think of another way to do it under such a system.
That would mean each month is however many days (which seem to have a more consistent, or even fixed, length) it takes to get to the next checkpoint. That isn't so difficult to imagine, given that's how long a traversal is known to be. We know their months can be long. The Upper Trust meeting about Midst was held on the 44th day of the eleventh month. Let's call it November, since we don't know their names (if they have different names at all). Lark's journal shows that July lasted at least 37 days, September 43, and October 42.
What happens if the Timekeepers lose track of the buoy? Or if it's destroyed? We know that the Timekeepers themselves can become shipwrecked, but what if the buoy? Are there setbacks that add further days to already indeterminately long months?
Scheduling must be all the more impossible when you can only really guess at dates a couple of weeks in advance, at best. Though, it isn't hard to say you're meeting from the 8th to the 10th in the new traversal, beginning of its second week, as Kozma notes that the Barons are. You can schedule anything early in a month by date, and perhaps you have to schedule the rest relative to today ("in ten days"). It does seem to make anything further than the near future a little difficult to conceptualize.
Then there is how Tzila is twelve-and-a-half. The anniversary of the founding of Stationary Hill is celebrated. If traversals are presumably different lengths each time, thus months are variably long, how are annual observances tracked? Is there a complex date conversion system? (Are traversals more accurately conceptualized as a parallel calendar system to a more widely used one, like many calendars are to the Gregorian?) Do they simply observe holidays according to, again, relative to specific points in the cosmos along the buoy's route? That is simply a more granular version of checkpoints for months. Does everyone have a floating birthday: it was the 30th last year, the 36th the year before that, and looking to be the 27th this year?
Imagine the experience of time under all this, where the calendar itself is unsure of how long a month is going to be until it actually ends and dates are, almost literally, fluid. Interminable Januarys, endless Novembers, holidays stalled in the approach, years that never end—it would all be very real.
Just absolutely fascinating to try to extrapolate the possible material reality of a calendar measured out in real-time by tracking a buoy across physical space, driven by a current that moves at variable speeds. What a fascinating lived reality that must lead to. I'm determined to think about the way clocks and calendars work in the cosmos, and the narrators can't stop me. Drop the deets, @midstpodcast, a girl wants to know about the experience and measurement of calendar time in the cosmos.

Being a grifter accelerates your brains bullshit gland output. If you're already famous for being shitty and inflammatory, you're only rewarded for continuing to be shitty. The most successful grifters know to keep it at a low-mediun pace. You wanna be just contraversial enough without jumping your own shark and turning into Alex Jones.
However, nowadays it does mean that every grifter will eventually say something so contraversial that it makes them unattractive to advertisers. Either that or they die of old age.

How did Baron Kozma Laszlo come to own so much land? Is Baron just a fun title or is there an actual specific political structure that makes her a Baron?
🔮: Kozma is a baron, but she is certainly not the only baron. The Fold’s predominant power structure is called the United Baronies, a flexible network of leaders spanning several Fold regions. The Baronies are as different from the Trust as they are from each other. Kozma is the Baron of the Fold Shallows, a region of the Fold located near the Mediun. As far as how she got that role, well, that’s another story.

Painting :)
I've decided to continue this idea I have with movement. The idea is that cats always end up in the weirdest of places like anywhere they can fit they will. That to me is movement and I decided instead of painting just the cats moving I would do this to symbolize it instead. I used a lot of references from family members and the internet to make these paintings. This first one I call "Let him out! "
The process of this and all of these paintings are really fun because I can use two mediuns that I'm familiar and sort if confident in. I used a mixture of gouache and acrylic on both pieces. I thought the idea of a cat being stuck in a sock really funny and wanted to paint it. I tried to make the cat look as if it were sad and trapped unable to escape this "Sock jail". I used a dark blue background with black corners and making the cat look smaller to make it feel as if it was in peril. The final touch was the little tear 💧
Here's the progress pictures!

I also did another painting with a similar theme with a really similar process. This kitty is stuck in between two slices of bread.... How did he get there?? Why did he get in there???? We will never know.. But he doesn't seem too upset

I have a medium house in Shirogane. I have about a 5 million gil (give or take a million or two) budget for decorating. I have neither the time nor the skill to create what I want. Anyone know any decorators with commissions available and a reasonable rate? I can supply most/all of the decorations (I either have them or can craft them) and I'm going to be crafting the mediun onsen walls.
If you know any decorators looking for work, send them my way? And boost this if you wouldn't mind? I'd like to get work started this week if possible.
ETA: If I like your work, I will also be looking to decorate Kali's Ul'dah small (2m budget for her) in the near future as well.

grandma took us to a spiritist place yesterday
we grew up spiritist, left because we didn't believe in it, now we've taken a new interest in it because we want to understand spiritual plurality more lmao
they asked screen if we were a medium while filling in a little form, he said we didn't know
they marked no at first but then we went in for a spiritual consultation or whatever it was and I was co-con and joked to screen "haha I wonder if they'll catch us" then the people seeing us were like "huh, not marked as a medium? oh, you said you didn't know. well, let's change that tick box to yes"
THEY STRAIGHT UP CAUGHT US
screen asked grandma about it on the way back and she said everyone has some mediunity but for some people it's more prevalent, and that voices occasionally chime into her head to give advice on things
and we're there like............ yeah, plural spectrum for sure
so like...... fuck. do we come out? those are the people that'll get closest to understanding us. and we feel extremely validated that someone, somehow, caught on for once.
but since the "original" isn't a host anymore we can't say we're just advisors hanging out, screen and I took over this life, dammit. but if we say that they might think we're dysfunctional, or worse, tell our mother... but we can't just lie and say we don't experience anything because we're really interested in the mediums' plural lives and they might even have good advice for us... I'm just afraid they'll misinterpret shit. and I don't want to be disrespectful either. fuck.
we'll be back there on monday and we have to come up with a solution until then..

Meet the Di Luculum family, for @wileyfern 's save file!
Fun Fact!: Diluculum is latin for sunrise/morning light
Private Download!
After two hundred or so years of being a vampire, things are bound to get... boring, as far as Erza was concerned. While transitioning helped, it certainly didn't clench his need for a more enticing existence.
That was, until he met Gustav, and fell in love with the chaos-prone human(?). That certainly brought Erza some amusement, even more so now that the couple married and had their little batling, Carmillia.
The only person still miffed about this arrangement seems to be Kaya, Gustav's adopted child who has to deal with a new stepfather and sister on top of other... changes in her life. But as it seems, her desire for a solid family structure overrides whatever lingering annoyance (And honestly, who could resist Carmie's endearing personality?)
Hopefully, a new start on Forgotten Hollow might help bring some balance to their new life (or emotion, for that stale place).

Traits: ❖ Music Lover ❖ Familiar ❖ High Maintenance ❖ Perfectionist (?)
Lifestyles: ❖ Close-Knit ❖ Hungry for Love ❖ Indoorsy
Over his lifetime, Erza has achieved a lot of skills [and yet, my game doesn't allow me to give him the Vampire level I wanted :( ]. Though, he never quite looked for starting a family until he met Gustav, who fascinated him on first sight. And although Carmie is still very young, Erza can't wait to expand the family he created, and also teach the next generation. His relation with Kaya is still tenative, but both are putting in the effort, despite their initial issues.
When I was setting his skill levels, the game generated him the perfectionist trait. It seemed fitting, so I accepted it. The question mark is because it doesn't appear on S4 Tray Importer.
The Di Luculum surname is originally his! (Story-wise) Gustav didn't have an actual one before.
I had to physically restrain myself from giving him a Jason Todd-like white streak on his hair. But damn it would have looked good if it didn't override his piercings.

Young Adult │ He/Him │ Human(?) │ That's a himbo if I've ever seen one
Traits: ❖ Generous ❖ Clumsy ❖ Loyal
Lifestyles: ❖ Close-Knit ❖ Adrenaline-Seeker ❖ Hungry for Love
Being in constant odds with magic really shouldn't be something a human experienced. Not that Gustav ever realized that, though. Honestly, between mediunity and dealing with whatever his daughter ended up being, getting married to a Vampire seems the most common situation to deal with, even with his little blood princess being born. Though, maybe Gustav would like to relax a little - just this once - to figure out where to go from here. But conciliating his needs with what his heart wants is a difficult thing...
Wants to be turned into a Vampire, so he can stay with Erza forever. Doesn't quite understand why his husband is so unwilling to try. (Erza is scared. He doesn't know what Gustav is, but human he is definitely not, and the consequences could be disastrous)
I originally wanted Gus to be a spellcaster, but forgot to introduce him as it in-game. So, he is a "human" with dormant spellcaster blood - a magicless child of spellcasters. He never knew his family, and doesn't seem to ever recognize that this much magic finding its way to his life is at least concerning.
He and Kaya have a Close family dynamic!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teenager (closest age to Tween)│ She/Her (?) │ Werewolf
Traits: ❖ Adventurous ❖ Loves Outdoors
Lifestyles: ❖ Outdoorsy ❖ Adrenaline-Seeker
Changes have been common in Kaya's life as of late (or maybe have always been?). Between puberty, her father marrying and having a kid, and... being a furry, apparently(?), it has been certainly a challenge to keep her head above water - and didn't Kaya love challenges. Though the thought of moving to Forgotten Hollow entices her desire to run wild, something about it has making her hesitate. Almost the same feeling she gets around Erza... (is it the fangs? But she doesn't mind Carmillia's fangs...).
Well, it is one more adventure to dive headfirst in!
Gus adopted Kaya when she was a kid, when she was around seven. She doesn't remember her pack bio parents much. But the longing for a strong bond with her loved ones is still there.
(She got lost. But nobody else came searching for her for days. It stings, and its worse to not even know why. They couldn't, they tried and it was too late, she was gone)
Was much more miffed with the though of her dad getting married then having Millia be born. But she is trying, despite it all.
Still is Gustav's pride and joy. He makes sure she knows she is not being replaced, though priorities are changed. All of her colorful style was, in part, influenced by the way her dad picked out clothes for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toddler│ She/Her │ Vampire │ Traits: ❖ Charmer
Ah! The new jewel of the family, Carmillia certainly knows how to get a spot in the heart of everyone she meets! She absolutely adores her older sister, most of all, and wants to be just like her when she grows up! (Which... might be difficult, given that Kaya is a wolf, and Millia is a little bat. But not impossible!)
Lucky to not have Gustav's spellcaster blood activated. Vampirism and Magic don't exactly mingle well in babies.
I opted to give her grey eyes to look at least a little alike Gustav. But I do think she looks great with darker eyes, and do believe they could get darker as she ages
Yeah, her name was inspired by Carmilla, one of the og vampires.

my usual approach is "the book is one thing and the movie is another thing entirely" because i never want to think of one as better than the other. HOWEVER. i am more of a book reader than a movie watcher so i always prefer the book even tho i don't want to compare nor find the mediuns all that comparable
yeah exactly. also i think adaptation theory is interesting in general, but like. yeah i try not to be a hater about it and yet. it is simply in my nature

@essektheylyss and I refused to take the narrators' advice that thinking about clocks would hurt too much and thought about how time is kept in the Midst cosmos sometime last week, specifically how the hell do you measure a "transversal", like literally on MONDAY
Tumblr media
(we realized later that there's indications that their "traversal" IS a year)
but then also we turn out to be right that a traversal is measured by just throwing a buoy into the Mediun and tracking it the entire time, so maybe we SHOULD continue to drive ourselves mad, we're gonna figure out the entire plot by fixating on small logistical details
Tumblr media
This remains a WILD way to keep time.
