Are there any mega evolutions you think probably should have just been regular evolutions?

In my opinion, most megas wouldn't work as regular evos because either:

The line is already three stages

It would make no sense for the line to evolve again thematically

The design is too similar to the original in both design and concept to work as a standard evo

The only megas I think would work as regular evos (without radical changes) would be:

Houndoom

Mawile

Manectric

Banette

Altaria

Interesting facts: rumours say mega sableye will be featured in mega raids at the end of June, but if you go on the screen of a catched Tyranitar you can already see this

Modern Unicorn (left) next to extinct megafauna ancestor (right).. Based partially off of the extinct Kyptoceras + cave painting horses*

#hoof draws #* realistically horses actually became bigger over the course of their evolution so cave ponies would be smaller #but i wanted the pony ancestor to be mega fuckers #idk. the concept of mlp horses being descended from a megafauna caveman species is fun #++also since unicorns are usually depicted with cloven hooves it would make sense for them to be descended from a bovine/cervine species #of which kyptoceras are neither I think? iirc the entire family is extinct

Convergent evolution line of GHASTLY, HAUNTER, GENGAR & Mega GENGAR.

They are nocturnal birds with the ability to imitate the cries of other pokemon, and even sounds made by humans, in order to attract unsuspecting prey into the dark forest and attack them by surprise.

They are mainly inspired by Nightjars, also known as nighthawks or frogmouths

GENJAR is also inspired in Owlbears from D&D

Mega GENJAR is based on the defensive posture owls will take when they feel threatened, ruffling their feathers and trying to look bigger and more intimidating
