I've been sitting on this for a while. It was just a little drawing exercise/study that got a bit out of control. This was going to be part of a set (and there's some that are more tongue-in-cheek) but then I learned that Marcelo's birthday was March 26th.

And as a fellow March baby, I felt it deserved to be celebrated in some way. :)

Commission for @n7viper of their Destiny hunter Mae. Accented in pink zinnia flowers symbolizing endurance, remembrance, friendship, and everlasting love and affection.

I haven't done any sci-fi art in years, so Mae was a lot of fun to draw! Thank you for always being patient enough to explain all the Destiny lore to me when you share your blorbo!

🎭 OC in another OC’s typical attire - I need a Morris/Quinn outfit swap :)

I originally had Quinn in just the gambeson and no armour, but he looked like a Star Wars villain and I didn't like it, so I stuck him in Morris' full plate. I would have done the same for Morris but Quinn's field gear as the Inquisitor is currently getting a redesign.

Who wore it better? I don't know.

Ser Horatio Morris, three-time champion of the Grand Melee

Each feather in his decorative plume was added to commemorate each successive win.  The armour is based on a set of 17th Century Italian parade armour.

The portrait is accented with yarrow in bloom as it is a favoured plant of pollinators, and is often associated with love and healing due to its association in myth with Achilles.  It represents love, bravery, and the courage to express love in spite of everything.  Bees rest among the flowers, representing Morris’ own beekeeping practices.

Remember, bees don’t lie.

(this was a proof of concept more than anything.  to see if the idea I had for a series of floral portraits for stickers and charms would work.  I used different brushed and a different painting method this time around, and I am quite happy with it and eager to work on some canon characters.)

Every day I stray further and further away from fan art actually being fan art lol.

But what’s this?  A ModernAU Quinn Trevelyan and Horatio Morris?  In the wild?  For real?

Shout out to @blarrghe and @n7viper for both the world building and the idea because modernAU Quinn has a boating outfit that makes him look like the villain in every Saturday afternoon romcom you’ve ever seen (and rightfully so), while Morris is “a Hawaiian shirt birkenstock-wearing man.”

ModernAUs typically aren’t my thing, so the heavy lifting goes to @blarrghe and their Matchiesverse AU which I highly recommend you check out if you are into Pavellan, extensive and creative world-building, or all of the above.

“But Mel,” you cry, “isn’t Quinn a Cassmancer?”  Yes he is, but Cass is already paired with someone else in Matchiesverse and it’s not my universe to change!  So this was just a fun little experiment.  It’s not my fic, or universe, someone was just nice enough to let me play in the corner of their sandbox for a little bit.

Plus, I’m happy with these as examples for commission tiers which I am considering more and more as money is already really tight for me lately and I have a wedding to pay may way to at the end of next month.

@/Taxkha on Twitter made a bunch of free-for-use art summary templates for 2022 and I thought the clock was super cool, so I decided to do one of these for the first time!

I didn’t know if I’d have enough art to fill the wheel, but I had at least one piece for every month but August which... I’m actually really impressed with!  I feel like I didn’t create much/finish much this year, so this is nice to see.  It’s neat to see the progression too - both in terms of drawing as well as colouring/painting.  And it’s not all one guy... just mostly.

I should probably branch out more in 2023.

But if I don’t create my own Inquisitor/OC content, who will?

Once upon a time, I watched "The Scarlett Pimpernel" with a bunch of friends and realized that my Inquisitor needed a smoking jacket that was as fancy and foppish as his personality.

Four years ago, I was filling in a writing prompt on the DA Subreddit and needed an Inquisitor to quickly insert into the drabble in order to finish it. I had tossed out my original Inquisitor because try as I might I just could not get anything to develop that clicked. But I was under pressure and strapped for time.

So I improvised.

And now, here we are.

Happy birthday to the blorbo Quinn Julius Barrington Trevelyan who started out as a vague stand-in with no descriptive appearance, no name, and a handful of lines. Born 23 Drakonis 9:08 Dragon and was originally supposed to be a fervently faithful Andrastian Dorianmancer but instead quickly showed himself to be a witty, sarcastic, and charming Cassmancer and the Andrastian equivalent of a lapsed Catholic... who tops his women and bottoms his men except when he tops his men and bottoms his women...

I have not written much of him lately due to personal life, exchange commitments, and general creative funk. But people continue to be lovely and encouraging and I know that because of that, I will be back on the creative train soon.
