Just wanted to say I stumbled across your bleak hours AU and absolutely love it!! If you don’t mind me askin, what was the inspiration behind it?

Hey, happy to hear it! I appreciate you taking the time to ask! I can’t really pinpoint specific inspiration behind the entire AU, it more is just a guilty pleasure project of mine as an exercise in world building and visual storytelling. Feel free to skip through parts because I definitely went overboard with this. 

Basically the AU started from the questions:

“What would the Naruto universe look like if the stories and conflicts centered more around politics, and the goals/motivations of nation’s ruling Daimyos?” 

“What would nations and hidden villages look like if they were treated as distinct cultures from one another (with their own traditions, imports/exports, religions, food/agriculture, entertainment, etc.) instead of just Konoha variants with different backdrops?”

Visually the stuff i’ve posted on Konoha have taken a lot of inspiration from WWII military uniforms (particularly in the dress uniforms seen below), modern tactical gear, and traditional Japanese fashion influences. Oh and some current techwear trends, kinda seen in the casual and coat rough sketches below.

 The small amount I’ve show of the sand siblings is based a lot off of concept art from Assassin’s Creed Origins, and the Prince of Persia series, with some historical references from The Byzantine Empire. Seen really prominently in this sketch of Baki:

There’s also some Iwagakure ANBU concepts I’m working on right now (sketches below) that are inspired by an artist I really like, Melita Curphy, so inspiration sometimes comes from other creators in small ways as well.

"Visionary Vultures" is a collectible enamel pin set inspired by the New World vultures.  The project name is inspired by a vision of a world where vultures are cherished for their great importance to ecosystems. A world where vultures are thriving in their natural habitats, species no longer critically endangered.

(The New World vulture family consists of seven species, represented here by six pins. The Greater and Lesser Yellow-headed vultures are closely related and look very similar, so they have been combined into one pin to represent both.)

The designs are a collaborative effort between Melita "Miss Monster" Curphy, Anastasia "Balaa" Korochansckaja, and Foxfeather Zenkova.

Size: These are going to be large pins, more of statement pieces to show off their detail, not tiny lapel pins. Sizes will be approx. 3-4" tall x 1.25-2" wide depending on design. (1.25" tall x 4" wide for California Condor). All of the pins are limited edition collectibles and will come with two backing posts for secure wear.

late 1500s german armour for alex (i didnt realize the armour was german until later :( ideally it’d be french but i liked the floral motifs) + a saw-spear. tony’s mask is based on the ones designed by melita curphy. the gauntlet is from prince of persia.

Finished this little dude about two weeks back and finally managed to get some decent shots of it under a blacklight (not easy lol). I'm so pleased with how it turned out.

I really loved figuring out that I could use fluorescent paint over black/dark colors. It made them much darker and more natural, but still left a lot of the vibrancy that comes with fluorescent colors. It's such a different vibe than normal and I can't wait to use it more in the future.
