⋒   Patch day tomorrow…July 26th   ⋒

My to-do list today:

Back up my saves.

Remove all mods - UI mods, script mods-everything that affects core game behavior. In other words, if it makes the game function differently, take it out. (I keep them in numbered folders so I can grab them all and move them outside of the mods folder.)

Delete the file localthumbcache.package from your Sims 4 My Documents folder.

The save I plan to play in after the patch: open it without mods installed and create a new save point using “save as”.

•  If you don’t want to deal with things breaking right away, turn off automatic game updates. Go to Origin > Application settings and look for the heading Client Update and make sure it is grayed out to turn off auto updates.

Then, go into offline mode through Origin before you start your game. It won’t prompt you for an update.

•  Last but not least, please please be patient with the wonderful creators of custom content and mods. Quite a few things will probably get changed behind the scenes with this patch and EP. They are people, too. They may want to just play the game like you. Give it time, give them grace.

And hopefully, we won’t have too many tears tomorrow ..lol!

The Cats and Dogs EP corrupted all my saves and I have a routine now that has worked for me.

And if you have something to add, please do. I really do believe in “sharing is caring.“ It is how I have learned so much over the years.

TIPS FROM OTHER SIMMERS

•  From @mellindi ::  I usually move my saves and mods folder from my Sims 4 folder before I update just to be safe. Not sure if it makes a difference or not but I'm not trying to have none of my saves corrupted lol

•  From @gednaaahhh ::  I backup my Tray as well as mods and saves folders. I've lost my tray after an update before, which was devastating at the time. All my long time played families gone, never to be seen again... So please backup your tray often! :)

Morrigan's Milanote Mess

aka "a look at how I plan my story using Milanote"

[Note: I have a subscription, so I'm not limited by the number of cards I can have, otherwise this level of detail would be impossible. My subscription was a gift, though.]

So, this is the "landing page" for my story. The left column has my "poster", and underneath that is the summary I have on my info page on my blog. The other two columns, on the right, have links to the boards that make up this mess.

This is the "outfit catalogue" board. It has pics of the outfits for every sim involved in the story, along with notes on how I have used / will use them. (The order here is meaningless. The top row is just the order from my character page on my blog, and the other ones are just grouped by their relevance / if they actually show up.)

This is what part of the outfit catalogue actually looks like. I note what I might use the outfit for, and also any notes about it. (Is it out of character for said sim? Would it only be worn for specific occasions? Is it formal or casual? Is it for warm or cold weather? etc.)

This is the main worldbuilding board. Each kingdom on the continent has a section, and there's also a place for all my rambles about the world. (Anvia is on there, just cut off.)

Each kingdom's board looks like this. There's a couple more sections underneath, along with a doc for more in-depth rambles.

Now onto the actual planning portion!!

I've shared this pic before, but this is my overall timeline for the story. (It really needs an update, though.) I have mapped out the dates of when certain key events occur, as well as when the transitions between the Acts happen. (Blurred for spoilers.)

This is the main landing page for my planning though. Each Act has a spot that includes the timeframe, a summary of events, as well as what I want to accomplish during that act to move the story forwards. (Acts 4 and 5 not included for spoiler reasons, plus Act 5 doesn't fit on the screen without scrolling.)

Each individual Act looks like this, but with more chapters (again, they don't all fit without scrolling). This is a look at Act 2. I have a column for each chapter, with a list of scenes, as well as the timeline of the chapter.

The board for each scene looks like this. I have a super short summary, the location (including which of the 6 copies of Windenburg said lot is in), who's involved, and what they'll be wearing (cross-referenced with the Outfit Catalogue, ofc.). Then there's a more detailed summary that summarizes the beats/themes of the scene, as well as has some insight into what the characters are thinking and feeling. The poses section varies from scene to scene, but the top section is for me to list any accessories I need, or any existing poses I have that might suit my needs, as well as rambling about the poses I might need to make. The checklist part is for the poses I need to make myself, usually. The writing section contains two versions of the scene. A full-length prose version (since I do that sometimes for fun and practice), and the actual script. The script is essentially what I type on the screenshots, as well as was goes in the transcript under the cut.

This is what the scratch board looks like. It's where I dump all of the screenshots I take for the scene, and sort them out. I decide which ones I actually want to use, and put them in the right order. Then I decide what portion of the text is going to go on which screenshot. (Better example below)

Phew! Okay, that's everything!! (Except for the character boards but those are kind of spoilery and I'm in the process of replacing them anyways.) Hopefully this was at least kind of fun to look at. It honestly amazes me how organized this is, because literally nothing else in my life is even remotely organized, lol.

I should also note that it was @mellindi who originally keyed me into the idea of using milanote for story-planning, and some of my layouts take inspiration from hers.

Aw this is a lovely thing to do anon! I'll just list a couple off of the top of my head.

@budgie2budgie B is incredible, She was one of the first simblrs I found. I didn't have a tumblr at the time so I bookmarked her page along with a few of the other OG's (dani-paradice, @inabadromance etc) and I'd visit them every couple of days to check for new CC until I eventually made my own page. It's been great to see her move into more story telling with her rotational game play and her imagination knows no bounds when it comes to edits. Have you seen her recent Barbie posts? She's so bloody talented.

@oatberrytea God I just heckin' love her. Absolute love and warmth just radiates from this girl and her blog. She’s been my biggest hype man since we found each other. Ultimate grandma vibes, 100% pure wholesomness on her blog. I’d kill to live in her game or even her actual house, I bet she makes the best cookies. Her game looks so soft and cozy and inspired me to create a save and play my sim Doris who I’ve had so much fun playing! (2)(3).

I’m lumping @servegrilledcheese​ and @ratboysims​ together becaue they both give me the same vibe, they’re both funny and crazy talented. Their game play posts are everything I wish I could do but just don’t seem able to, something to strive for. They have such recognizable and destinct sim styles, I can always tell a post by either of them while looking through my dash.

@mellindi​ Holy shit, have you seen her blog? I’m sick and tired of this gals talents. You name it she can do it. She’s a fantastic writer and bring so much life to her sims. She’s also so insightful and helpful. Her website is full of brilliant tutorials and information on mods to make your gameplay better! A real gem in the community and must be protected at all costs!

@mandy-sims Mandy has such adorable game play pictures but she’s mostly my go to for sim lookbooks. I’ve never been into clothing for fashion, I wear black leggings and some kind of black band or logo t-shirt every day and have done since I was a teenager (although I permanently had black skinny jeans glued to my legs back then). So I never know how to dress sims. I typically stick them in one of the styled looks and call it a day. BUT when I do wanna make a little bit more effort Mandy is where I go and just copy the looks she puts on her sims. Her decorating is also chefs kiss.

@orphyd An actual real life angel who walks among us. She’s been so supportive of me over the years and watching her grow in return has been a blessing. I wish I could just connect her game to mine and have instant access to all of her sims and interiors because they’re at least a 17/10. Genuinely sweet and loving person.

Hi sweetie! Well, I will try to give you some tips which are important for me:

Use the camara mod.

Try different angles and perspectives. Go wild, take pictures from afar, from near, from above, from below...

Take pictures in different moments of the day to change the light effect.

Also in different worlds, indoors/exteriors and seasons.

Take your sims to community lots. There are so many amazing lots to visit! I find them here, @maxismatchccworld's builds masterlist. You can also build yourself beautiful places to take pictures of your sims there.

Take pictures of your sims having different moods, so your sims don’t look always the same. Their faces change a lot with each emotion!

Use different outfits, makeup, hairstyles... to fit your sim personality.

Use many different interactions with your sims, so you could take advantage of any animations of the game to take pictures.

Let your sims interact autonomously. They can really surprise you with funny situations where you can take many cool pictures.

I recommend you to read @mellindi’s game-play ideas and game-play mods 😍 You will get a lot of ideas to make your game-play much more interesting and also your pictures.
