so. it's been awhile!

my birthday was this week. haven't been doing too awesome mentally, but it's all good for the most part. ✌ passively self-destructive is better than actively, hey?

but as ever, that's only part of the story. maybe I'm in kind of a state, and I know i can't stay here forever. it's dangerous to be poetically, comfortably depressed.

Anyway, enough about that. I've gotten back into a few old special interests, and that's been nice. I've started seeing someone (more on that another time, I'm sure!) and it's been more just sweet. There's a spark, a mutual understanding. I'm excited.

My Hero Academia Class 1-A Music Headcanons

I've been catching up on the manga and thinking a lot about Jiro making a collaborative playlist to help her really connect with her classmates lately. Anyway,

Deku listens to soundtracks, like bombastic instrumentals from old superhero movies, and I like to think he enjoys some fantasy adventures too. He also likes J-rock, including some openings and endings from the anime. He's pretty open to recommendations no matter the genre, but generally prefers more mellow stuff to help him relax and study or just unwind after a long day, and tends to listen to the same small handful of his favourite songs anyway.

Bakugo listens to heavy metal, particularly extreme metal. He loves the blast beat drumming and harsh vocals. A lot of the lyrics are incomprehensible upon listening, but if you took the time to look some of them up, they'd give more insight to his more vulnerable side that he's too prideful to show. I also like the idea of him having a softer private playlist that nobody lives to speak of.

Ochako didn't really seek out new music on her own before high school and formed her taste mostly from the radio or recommendations from friends. She has a lot of fun going through the playlist and she's happy to listen to anything from bubbly J-pop to heavy metal. I think she'd be a big fan of Babymetal.

Iida also likes instrumentals for studying, but more classical, and with faster tempos that he can take his morning runs to as well, like allegro. Something like hardcore techno would be funny, maybe some sport anthems, and a few more mellow rock songs that he picked up from his brother for when he needs to cool down.

Todoroki was very isolated and had a really limited musical library before high school. He'd also just listen to some classical, traditional Japanese music, or whatever was on the radio, if anything at all. He later gravitates to edgy alternative rock, or anything with relatable lyrics that help him vent his emotions. I think he could use that.

Tokoyami likes goth, modern classical, anything mellow, dark and ethereal-sounding with poetic lyrics. His music is oddly calming and haunting at the same time. He doesn't like anything too loud or harsh-sounding, partially because it can excite Dark Shadow too much.

Tsuyu and Koda both listen to cozy movie soundtracks, like from Disney or Ghibli, folk, lo-fi, ambient nature sounds, anything grounding and soothing, or "cottagecore".

Momo listens to classical, traditional pop, or modern music with elements of either, like baroque/chamber pop.

Jiro is already confirmed to have a preference for rock, probably alternative rock, and punk. I'd like to think some metal as well, but she'll listen to almost any genre and has impeccable taste in everything. She was largely influenced by her parents, and maybe grandparents, so her library spans a few decades as well.

Mina and Toru both listen to upbeat J-pop, and I like to think one of them introduced the others to Little Glee Monster. Maybe some sappy or wistful love songs more in private. Mina also likes 70s pop, disco and hip-hop, the kind of music that just compells you to dance and sing at the top of your lungs, maybe some psychedelic space rock and sci-fi horror soundtracks.

Kirishima is also confirmed to like 80s rock, like Eikichi Yazawa and Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi. I'd also think he likes stuff from as far back as the 50/60s as well, since Yazawa is the closest thing to Elvis from Japan that I know of, and that he picks up some more modern hard rock and metal mostly from Bakugo and Tetsutetsu as well.

Kaminari and Mineta both listen to J-pop, mostly from female idols that they think are cute. Besides that, Kaminari likes pop rock/punk and a lot of English music, and seems to have formed a lot of his taste from whatever was popular on the radio or social media with the occasional unexpected banger. He also had a dubstep, Vocaloid and hyperpop phase.

Sero is almost as adventurous as Jiro with music. He has a talent for finding underrated indie bands, and songs in a few different languages as well.

Aoyama also listens to some classical, but more opera, as well as French pop, some disco and house that he can vogue to. It's mostly upbeat but there's some sad-sounding songs in there as well that the others can't translate.

Shoji doesn't have much to contribute, being a minimalist, but he generally likes the more mellow indie stuff. He can get overstimulated easily.

Sato and Ojiro both like upbeat stuff, and enjoy music more as background noise for training, or baking in Sato's case. I also think Sato would enjoy the girls' bubbly pop music, and Ojiro would like some traditional stuff. Idk man they're nothing characters

Well from your recent posts I've gathered that you are not a Big (with a capital B yes) fan of A Boss and a Babe so it's probly safe to say this . The reason i haven't watched this series is bcz I find the leads eerily similar looking?? Like if not siblings but atleast like distant cousins ??? Idk why but i can't unsee it now. Help .

Oh I don't think they look alike at all. Sorry, I don't know how to help you.

Maybe focus on specific features? Think of it like you were sketching them as a portrait artist? Like they have different mouth shape, eye shape/placement, cheekbones, and hair lines. Force (left) has a thinner straighter mouth more sculpted, slightly higher more prominent cheekbones, much heavier lidded eyes (he looks sultry and sleepy most of the time), slightly broader nose, longer face over all, and a prominent Adam's apple.

Book (right) has more delicate and finer features, his face is more heart-shaped and proportions are different (where his features fall on his face), smaller slightly pouty mouth, thinner nose, slightly rounder cheeks, close but less deep-set eyes. He's also lighter skinned. For all these reasons he's cast as the uke in their shows, as they are pretty much the same height, age (Book is actually a little older), and deferential politeness IRL, it could have gone either way.

Your Moment of Academia

If you're still struggling, there could be more/other reasons for this.

There is something called the Cross-race effect which may be impacting you. (The way to train your brain out of this one is to just keep watching tons of dramas, fashion, MVs made by cultures not your own. More info and discussion on this in this episode of All in the Mind podcast: The human drive to connect – and divide)

There's also Prosopagnosia to consider, although that's a lot rarer than modern peeps make it out to be.

I've also always felt like Dunbar's number may come into play with this kind of thing too. Like perhaps the human brain just has a limited max capacity for facial recognition storage.

So you might do better if you focus on their mannerisms and way of speaking which are completely different. (Siblings usually share vocality and mannerisms especially if they were raised together.) Body language and their way of holding themselves, smiles, eye crinkles, use of eyebrows, etc... Very few actors can move on from these tells.

Book has a more mobile face (which is why he suits comedy so well) but Force's is more emotive and expressive in nuance. He's uses more micro-movements, like little eye crinkles and a little crooked smile.

Their voices are very similar, but Force's is more burred, and a little more monotone (rare in Thai). He has a mellow soft way of speaking especially around the ubiquitous krap. Book has a rounder, wetter way of speaking, his kraps are more sharp and clipped.

All that said, IMHO you don't have to bother to watch either of ForceBook's series. So far this pair has been ill served by GMMTV. So if it wigs you out, there is plenty other, better BL.

Also if you want to actually watch a BL where the characters are some iteration of siblings, I'm sure Japan is there for you. If not, there's always the stepbrothers trope...

I have to say, I tend to way MORE annoyed when characters in a show who are meant to be siblings look absolutely nothing alike. Like bone-structure level "qua?" I know blood siblings don't always look alike, but they rarely look so completely different as we often get in TV or film the world over.

Way back, I did a series of actors in BL who I thought SHOULD play brothers and these are my favorites:

Mark Siwat Jumlongkul and War Wanarat Ratsameerat.

Now those two boys look related. To me, anyway.

My Version: Kai Roman Hodek

Younger brother to Andrew, Jeff calls him Drew for short.

Drives a beat-up truck that his dad gave him when he got his license.

Metalhead.

Enjoys collecting knives.

Has very prominent, blue sanpaku eyes.

Around 6'0; about the same height as his brother.

Asocial, leaning more on the quiet side (particularly when he was in high school).

Observant (has a staring problem, lol), but helpful when there are bad people around.

Bit of an asshole.

Doesn't have noticeable facial scars, but has scars on other parts of body.

Super good at swimming and athletic things, but didn't play sports in high school because he thought it was a waste of time.

Not pale because of bleach, just natural skintone.

Anger issues, and is really bad at confessing his feelings.

But speaks him mind in ways that are insensitive to others.

And when he genuinely cares about someone, he would do whatever it takes to protect them.

Has a deep, gravely voice that is a bit husky (kinda like David Near's interpretation or BadHabitASMR on YT).

Loves reading in his free time, and his favorite aesthetic is dark academia (thus he dresses this way).

Is cognizant of his demonic side and tries to feed on animals instead of humans, but sometimes it falls through and he feels guilty.

Has gauges.

Is not blind, just has blacked-out eyes.

Sometimes wears glasses.

Def listens to Tool and A Perfect Circle. Will indulge Jeff in his heavier music, but prefers classic and avant-garde and prog rock.

Can sometimes over-analyze people and make them feel negatively about themselves without meaning to do so. Like, he would overuse logic in situations that also require emotions. He is trying to work on it!!!

Jeff's older brother.

Has similar features to Jeff but has short, brown hair and prominent green eyes.

Has a white kitty :)

Mellow and chill.

Tends to see the bright side in things, which can get him in trouble at times.

Really likes hiking and anything outdoors.

Has to get his crazy ass brother together sometimes.

Enjoys Indie Rock.

Does not have facial or bodily scars.

Closer to their parents. They were not abusive physically, but were emotionally absent, leading to Kai demonstrating the same behaviors. Drew more often got along with his parents whereas Kai was always pegged as the "bad kid." Therefore, it has caused a bit of a rift between them.

Has a hard time understanding his brother's emotions, but mostly because Kai has a hard time letting him in.

Overall, Kai views Drew as being too passive and Drew views Kai as being too judgmental.

Original Character: Sally Williams

My Version: Sallie Ann Noel

Original Character and My Version: Tobias Erin Rodgers

Has Congenital Insensitivity to Pain and Anhydrosis (CIPA). Due to this, he also has dermatillomania/excoriation (skin-picking) which often leads to him bleeding. He does this ALOT when he is immensely stressed out.

Side Note: Because he doesn't feel pain, he has hella piercings, like about the same amount if not more than Kai. Likewise, he would try to freak his friends out by pulling on them, but one time he pulled too hard and his skin came with it. Thankfully, he hasn't done it since.

Normally quiet and inward, though if provoked his anger becomes more outwardly visible. He is better able to keep it under control versus Kai, but will still lash out if messed with.

Moreover, Kai will bother him to get a reaction, leading him to dislike Kai.

Tries to mask his tics, causing them to sound strained in his voice and body. They are more pronounced when he is feeling intense emotions such as anger or anxiety.

His mother is alive but he cannot bring himself to visit her. He still feels somewhat guilty for what he did to his "father".

Hides many of his insecurities by pushing others away.

Used to be sympathetic to others but became jaded overtime. It takes a longer time to form a friendship with him.

But, once he warms up to someone, he will also be super loyal to them. Moreover, physical touch would be his platonic and intimate language!! This mf will SMOTHER YOU.

He just really needs a hug, he's touch-starved :'(

Original Character: Ben Drowned

My Version: Benjamin (Ben) Evan Hope

Loves Smashing Pumpkins and shoegaze in general.

Can be a brat and complains when he doesn't get what he wants.

Enjoys dancing and is really good at it.

Stoner.

Friends with mostly everyone, but is close with very few people that really know him.

Has extreme anxiety but masks it with humor.

Chill and relaxed (but low-key likes to watch drama play out). But, if things get too heated, he'll step in as a voice of reason (usually between Ben and Toby since he is friends with both of them).

Homebody, but will go out to parties occasionally.

And when he does, he is the LIFE of the party, which can turn into him having the worst hangover the next day because he indulged too much :(

Sometimes, he appears to not take things seriously, but in reality he has a hard time facing the stressful thing that is happening.

Original Character and My Version: Clockwork/Natalie (Nat) Rachel Outlette

Is SUPER hard to warm up to at first.

She tends to be like Kai and say things that are on her mind that can be insensitive, but she really doesn't care how others take it.

She jokes in a way that comes off as rude, but once you warm up to her and become friends, she'll literally be like a guard dog.

For example, she is closer to Toby and will fight Kai for bothering him, but Toby usually tries to stop her because. he doesn't want her involved.

She's just super loyal but can also be territorial to new people.

It's something that she knows she does, but she kinda is okay with it since it can drive bad people away (but then it is hard for her to make friends).

Is a natural leader and is really good at organizing things or handling intense conflict (outside of fighting).

Is the first one to calm people down and make them think clearly.

I will make a part 2 eventually and I have faceclaims for mostly all my characters, just still figuring them out :)

I dunno if u will answer this. But i want to know about your sunburn take(this is definitely not an excuse to gather some inspiration)

i'm always happy to talk about sunburn!! i'm not sure exactly what you're asking for.. like my general thoughts on the ship? headcanons? idea of what their dynamic is like? i'll do my best to get my general thoughts out, but feel free to let me know if there's other stuff you want me to add :))

i think the main appeal of Sunburn for me is that they're both mentally unwell together while also having complementary personalities that help the other partner better manage their mental illness. they're both weird loser outcasts who have issues with intimacy and emotions, but Sunny is patient and attentive with Aubrey and helps her stay calm, and Aubrey keeps Sunny grounded in the real world and gives him the strength take care of himself. so you get a healthy dose of "this couple fucks everything up together" which is fun and relatable, but it also gives you so much room to explore them growing and healing together.

i think Aubrey would try really hard to stay in touch with Sunny after the true ending, even though she's upset with him for a while. she train-hops into the city late in the summer just to see him and work out some messy post-Truth emotions, and then they stay in touch through email during the school year. Sunny's old childhood crush reawakens itself very fast now that Aubrey's showing so much care for him—actually, I'd argue that the crush never really went away.

Sunny comes back to visit sometimes, too. and when he does, he and Aubrey will always sit on the swings together and talk, just like old times. i think a lot about the game's implications of the swingset being a big heart-to-heart spot for them. it's only a short time before their conversations start to feel free and natural again. they just get each other.

after Aubrey graduates high school, she moves into the city where Sunny lives and gets a job in construction/freelance handywoman stuff. Sunny still lives with his mom, and he's studying for his GED and making a little money as a freelance illustrator on the side. they spend a lot more time together, Aubrey takes Sunny out on bike rides and reminds him to take his meds, and Sunny and his mom have Aubrey over for dinner several nights a week (she's definitely living paycheck to paycheck at this point, sadly, she needs all the help she can get 😔). and this is around the time where Aubrey starts to fall for Sunny in return. she sees how much he's growing into his own person and coming out of his shell, and how badly he wants to be there for her and help her out.

in the years that follow, Aubrey and Sunny finally work through their feelings and start dating, Aubrey goes to trade school and starts working as an electrician or auto mechanic (better job, better money!), and she and Sunny get their own apartment together, and a cat :) adulting is hard for them at first! dinners are burned, bathrooms are flooded, rent deadlines are nearly missed. but they have a hell of a time, and they have each other, and they survive and then thrive. at some point i will write a fic that explores all this is fuller detail. but that's the general gist.

as to what their general endgame dynamic is like: they're both pretty quiet and subtle people in demeanor/appearance, but they're a little wild on the inside. Aubrey's hair is back to black with a single pink streak, and she has a love of leather jackets and earrings and tattoos; Sunny's evolved into a sort of tasteful goth/dark academia aesthetic. they both like listening and observing more than talking. they both keep a lot journals and talk about deep meaning-of-life shit. they do tons of parallel play, and parallel work. Sunny talks more than he used to, but he can be spacey and shy sometimes, which makes Aubrey very protective of him. she's mellowed out, but she can still get a little fiery when she thinks someone's giving Sunny a hard time. they're not overly showy with PDA, but they're almost always holding hands. and they can both understand how the other is feeling without needing to exchange a word.

i also think that Sunny and Aubrey both like being artsy together :) Sunny is an illustrator by trade, but Aubrey also likes to draw and paint with him. and she casually plays guitar, and Sunny does a little music production stuff here and there.

lastly, even in timelines where they don't end up dating each other, i think Aubrey is also the first person Sunny goes to when he's confused about his gender and/or sexuality. if the mystery potion is any indication, he's definitely thought about being a girl to some degree, or being something in between. so at some point after Aubrey moves to the city, they're up late one night talking, and Sunny admits that he wishes he was a girl sometimes, but not all the time? and Aubrey is the only girl he's really close with so he figures it's best to get her opinion. and it takes many more years before Sunny actually puts a label on how he feels (probably genderfluid), but Aubrey is there with him every step of the way (she's an active participant in the city's punk/queer subculture so she's very accepting!!!).

Fashion For Jazz🌼

Made some outfits for Jazz. For me, I see Jazz who likes to look pretty and proper. She def likes to dress sweet and peppy! Totally in Academia aesthetic with also a mix of soothing, relaxing clothing. She LOVES yoga pants. She’s also a huge fan of calm, mellow colors, especially aqua colors like teal💙💚
