Unpacked the ornaments today and started laughing over this. He looks like a relative of Gritty. My mom bought him to represent my first christmas and over the years he's gotten crushed because she didn't do a great job of packing things up; I inherited some of her things after she died and kept even less, so digging to the bottom of the box today yielded the best laugh I've had in a while. He is now proudly on display dead center on the tree, close to Blue and Beta, and staring wildly into the room.

🎄 Spending the Holidays with the Moon Boys (Steven, Marc, Jake x Reader)
A/N: It's almost Christmas again and that means having a chance to finally sit and force myself to finish the things I’ve had sitting in my drafts for MONTHS... have some fluffy thoughts for the festive season.
Tumblr media
Warnings: Mentions to mental health, slight smutty thoughts, references to childhood trauma, religion, holidays - let me know if I missed any.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
The holidays are a complicated time in your life - but then again, what isn't complicated when it comes to living with your boys?
Marc is Jewish and Steven loves Christmas and Jake doesn’t really care either way. They all just want you to be happy, but that doesn’t stop you from ensuring that they all get a slice of the holiday season.
Your main mission is making sure they all have a gift from you as you love them all so much and want to make sure they know it. If anything it’s adorable how much they suddenly bicker about fronting on Christmas morning so they can open theirs first.
They also all insist on getting you a gift, from each of them, to thank you and remind you they love you in return.
You also got them each their own stocking to put up, in a proud display of your unique family.
Anytime you mention the holiday season, Marc is quiet. You know why - which is why you make sure to to ask him to help tell you about the Jewish traditions associated with this time of year in an attempt to heal old wounds.
It clearly means a lot, even if it’s tinged with a sense of pain when he explains about lighting the menorah or about how his dad would make latkes for him to eat whenever his mom started her usual seasonal ranting - normally after a bottle or two of whatever liquor she could find.
Needless to say, he’s overwhelmed when he comes home one day to find you with your sleeves rolled up, doing your best to finish prepping latkes to cook later on.
You do, however, make sure to buy a bag of donuts to have on hand incase your efforts go poorly…
Steven would find it all rather fascinating to learn about it, and has probably looked up so much history about the holiday that it makes your heart swell.
He’s also the first to help and insist you do indulge Marc - even if he protests against it, saying it isn’t a big deal.
“He deserves it you know, he’s a teddy bear deep down under that whole macho Jason Bourne tough guy bullshit.”
As for Steven, he'd be 'Captain Christmas' and will be only too eager to assist in all holiday and festive activities.
He's the one you ask for advice when picking out a tree and decorating it. You also let him blast his cheesy Christmas playlist over and over again, loving the smile it puts on his face as he duets with you in the car.
It's also why you end up begging Steven to come to your workplace's Christmas party, as your date, as you trust him the most to make polite conversation with your colleagues and not shoot your boss when he looks at you and your Xmas attire a little too long.
Surprisingly, I think Jake would indulge in the season in his own ways - like insisting on hanging mistletoe in the apartment and making sure to catch you as often as possible.
“What? It’s not me, it’s tradition. You want to mess with fate? Your choice sweetheart.”
He's a tease, but you know he cares and he's trying to show it.
Hell, why else does he not protest every time Steven puts them in the most ugly Christmas sweater he can find?
He's also the one who would get you the most risqué gifts, hoping to celebrate the festive season in his own way 😅

The Jonathan Adler 2022 holiday supplement has arrived! Nothing says happy holidays, light a candle in the darkness, and love your fellow man like a giant eyeball ala a propaganda poster from the novel 1984 staring up at you from the cover of a gift catalog.
As I have in the past, I thought I’d share some highlights in an ongoing attempt to determine who, exactly, this is marketed towards. Other than, it would appear, fans of @pangur-and-grim:
Tumblr media
[ID: An image of a tree ornament labeled “Cat Ornament” and priced relatively reasonably at $28; the slightly abstract cat with large round eyes and pointy ears bears an uncanny resemblance to famous Tumblr cat influencer Pangur.]
Or perhaps you would prefer a Snornament (Snail Ornament):
Tumblr media
[ID: An ornament in the same style as above, but now depicting a skeptical looking snail, a good trick considering it has no facial features. I think it should really be called a Snauble or Snail Bauble.]
I’m so glad they showed me the reverse of these ornaments, because that’s what’s really going to sell people on them.
Tumblr media
[ID: A photograph of a set of “Le Wink” ornaments, round discs with 1984 eyes painted on them and tassels hanging from them. An inset shows that they look exactly the same, except for the discs being different colors, on the other side.]
Do you need a gift for the man in your life? Why not get him....a bunch....of faces?
Tumblr media
[ID: A page in the catalog labeled “GIFTS FOR HIM”, featuring an image of a vase with several unsettling partial faces sculpted into the side. It is captioned “a handsome head turner is on everyone’s list.”]
Perhaps an ass vase is more to his liking? (This one was such a buried lede, a tiny photo in the back of the catalogue, that it won this post’s “I gotta link to this on the website” award.)
Tumblr media
[ID: A vase made entirely of shapely round protruding butts; one cheek has stars, another has a kiss mark on it in gold, and the small of the back appears to have corset piercings and lacing going up it.]
I will say this, Jonathan Adler skipped right past the “wine mom” marketing and went directly for the “pill auntie” vibe.
Tumblr media
[ID: A page from the catalog reading “GIANT ACRYLIC: Oversized solid acrylic sculptures bring a luminous glow to your lair with colors that change with the light.” The sculptures in question are giant acrylic pill capsules in a variety of colors, stamped “150mg” on the sides.]
Lastly, I’m pretty sure this two-page spread is the result of someone going “But what do we market to The Jews?” and someone else replying, “Menorahs...Mezuzahs....and blue shit.”
The QUAALUDES pillow is an especially nice touch for Hanukkah.
Tumblr media
[ID: Most of a two-page spread showing Jonathan Adler’s Hanukkah offerings: some ceramic menorahs and a dreidel, gilded mezuzahs, an assortment of gold-and-blue fruit dishes, and half a page of basically just everything blue that they had in stock, including a long blue pillow with QUAALUDES printed on it in psychedelic font.]

This might seem a little odd, but bear with me
Alright, so my mom babysits kids, a handful of em at a time, some of the kids she babysits are Jewish, because of this my Mom keeps a little "kid-friendly" (ie no actual fire) Menorah up around this time of year so they don't feel left out from all the Christmas stuff that's around this time of year (my family is Catholic) that the other kids do, this year we have a whole LEGO Winter Village display set up and my mom asked me and my brother to construct a LEGO Menorah for the Jewish children that Mom babysits
Basically what I'm getting is it acceptable for us Catholics to keep a Menorah around? Like, I worry that we're in some offensive territory
It basically qualifies as a classroom as far as we're concerned; it basically just means your little village has some Jewish folks, which is nice :)

I'm taking the mikveh guide course via Mayyim Hayyim and Rising Tide Open Waters and finished my first week. I made this to try to explain what it means to me. Anyone, anytime, can choose to mark something new, can choose to cleanse of anything that no longer serves them, and for all Jews, no matter your observance, this is open to you. I'm so excited to help you access this the way you need it.
Artists statement and image description.
A collage: a banner of stars with Hebrew text “shelter us beneath your peace” floats over a pomegranate tree bearing only ripe fruits. It grows in front of a beach at sunset with subtle trans pride colours from a stone wall that reads madrich/a in Hebrew. This wall, collaged from an image of the kotel, is balanced on seven pillars of text capped with an image in front of a red desert sand, connecting the natural and human made desert mikvot with the biggest natural mikveh, the ocean.
Between these pillars grow flowers. From left to right, a red poppy for rest and healing, California poppies for the artist’s home and their medicinal restful qualities, yellow roses for friendship, a lily of the valley for the author’s birth, its duality as poison and perfume, and mention in Shir haShirim, a blue gentian for medicinal properties especially as an emmenagogue to tie it to mikveh use, lavender for healing, a white rose for love and death, and a pink rose of Sharon as mentioned in Shir haShirim for love and marriage. They are in this colour order as a nod to queer use and usage of mikveh as a spiritual technology.
The columns each have one of the seven principles for mikveh written in Hebrew, and are capped with a stone collaged with a related item. From right to left, these are a Torah scroll, a folding screen, a magen david with the downward pointing triangle replaced with a heart, a seven branched menorah with almond blossoms instead of candles, an open book, a brush painting a rainbow, and an open set of french doors that, if you look closely, are opening to a mikveh at Mayyim Hayyim.
Over all this are three blessings connected to mikveh, in English, with a name for the divine in Hebrew beneath. The first two are the artist’s own poetic translations of the mikveh immersion and shehecheyanu brachot, and the last is a tekhine praising Gd for gifting us the mikveh as self empowerment connecting us to natural cycles.
Blessed are You, She Who Contracts our god, Sovereign of Space Time, who has blessed us with your teachings and invites us to immerse.
Blessed are You, Being our God, Sovereign of Space Time, who has blessed me with my life, sustained me, and accompanied me to this moment.
Bless the One who gives me this.Bless the one who shows me how to cleanse myself take in the power of the water and the moon as the sun sets orange and feel that coursing through my veins to know I am powerful as this.

My @rtc-secret-santa-event for @bundlofcigars!
I did a writing that I'm calling "Hidden Holiday"
Here ya go!
The fire blazed in Ocean's home as she finished preparing for her holiday party. Celebrating two holidays during the winter herself she usually was defaulted to for the choir party. There were tastefully decorated sugar cookies, a menorah, a Christmas tree and a kinara. It was inclusive for all the choir and it was perfect.
The doorbell sounded five times as the choir slowly arrived. Everyone bringing the gifts for "Hidden Holiday" as Ocean decided it should be called. Slowly sitting around the fireplace, snacking on the food that was there.
"Okay everyone! I hope you are all enjoying yourself but it is now time for our main event! Hidden Holiday! I'll start, I had Connie. My gift is something I think she'll love" Ocean passed a basket with purple tissue paper pooling out of it in Constance's direction.
Constance removed the tissue paper, revealing a teddy bear with a choclate bar taped to the stomach. She gave a light squeal before setting the gift aside.
"Thanks Ocean! That bear looked so cuddly! Well, I had Penny and I know how she loves her doll so... I got her another one"
Constance handed a Raggedy Ann doll over to Penny who just held it in her lap.
"I had Ricky and I knew I probably shouldn't get them another cat. So instead I got them more comics."
She hands over a flat package with a ribbon tied around it.
"Their in protective sleeves don't worry"
Ricky let the package rest in their lap, shifting it with their present which he swiftly rolled to Mischa.
Mischa ripped the wrapping paper open revealing an old-school Ipod. A simple note saying "I hope to find your music on here someday." Mischa blinked as he quickly handing a gift to Noel.
Noel delicately open the package revealing a set of VHS tapes all with old French titles.
"I don't know if you have playing method but these seemed like what you talked about."
Noel hugged the box to his chest before handing off the last present, now obviously for Ocean. Another flat package.
"I didn't really know what to get you but for some reason you like politics. One of my thrift stores had this and I thought you would like this."
Ocean opened the package revealing old United States campaign posters.
"These will be the perfect room decorations!"
The group held their gifts close. Relishing in the fact that they somehow had the perfect things. And they had each other.
"Anyone feel up to watching Elf?" Ocean asked after a minute, leading to a cheer from the group as they settled in close for the movie.

Lights of Joy
Day eighteen of the Advent calendar! Using this list. Day 18: Christmas Lights Fandom: Ted Lasso - Pairing: RoyJamie .5k[Ao3]
“This is fucking absurd,” Roy said. Jamie held out the jar they kept in the cupholder and Roy dropped a coin in. “Why the fuck does a cat need to see Christmas lights?”
“Saw it online,” Jamie reported as Roy dropped another coin in. “Told Phoebe. Now Phoebe wants Dauphine to see the lights.”
“It’s a Jewish cat,” Roy complained. “If she wanted to see lights, we’ve got menorahs, don’t we?”
“it’s not the same, Uncle Roy!” Phoebe chirped, Dauphine huddled warily in a basket in the back seat next to her. “Dauphine could hurt herself on the menorah. She’s safe in the car here!”
“Yeah, sticking her fucking claws in my leather seats.”
Jamie shook the jar until Roy put another coin in. “Come on, grandad: she’s in her little basket and we covered the seat with a blanket, your seats are fine.”
“Thank you so so much for driving us, Uncle Roy,” Phoebe said. “Mum wanted to but she got called in. And this is the last week before Christmas.”
“The lights stay up until January,” Roy grumbled.
Jamie rolled his eyes. “No one wants to see the lights after Christmas, Royo. But melancholic, innit?”
Roy gripped the steering wheel and Jamie could almost hear him screaming in his head about how they didn’t celebrate Christmas anyway except Phoebe was growing up celebrating Christmas, at least a little and he refused to alienate his niece.
Jamie leaned over the center console to kiss him on the cheek in reward for not voicing these thoughts.
“Oi, don’t kiss me while I’m fucking driving!” Roy scolded. “We’ve got precious fucking cargo.”
Jamie rolled his eyes, taking the two pounds from Roy’s pockets himself.
They arrived at the “Light of Joy Christmas Drive-Thru” only a bit after the sun had really set. There were strings of lights and shapes and archways to drive through, set up on some random side road just outside London. According to Beard, these things were very popular in America, but Jamie had never heard of them. If you wanted to go see lights as far as he knew you had to walk.
As soon as the lights could be seen from the back seat, Dauphine made that cat activation chirping sound and started moving around. Jamie turned to watch as she stood, and climbed over Phoebe, her tail flicking back and forth, her eyes fixed out the window.
Jamie grinned. “Oh, she likes it!”
“Of course she fucking likes it,” Roy growled. “She’s a cat looking at pretty lights.”
But Jamie had looked over at Phoebe and she was just as lit up as the drive. Between staring out the window and excitedly pointing out different displays to Dauphine, Phoebe looked like the embodiment of Christmas joy.
Jamie laid a hand on Roy’s arm to quietly get attention and nodded at the rear view mirror. Roy looked and immediately softened seeing Phoebe happy like that.
“Fine,” Roy said after a bear, “It was a good idea.”
Jamie grinned and leaned over the console to kiss him.
“Not while Im fucking driving.”

to kind of play off the Christmas anon, how would Dolly's first Christmas as a couple go with Luke? Like where she gets them gifts, but also recognizes and respects their Jewish traditions?
i’m not jewish so bear with me here. i’m trying be respectful of the religion and jewish holidays and i’m going off of what i’ve learned from my jewish friends
Dolly’s first holidays with the Hughes as Luke’s gf is chaotic in a good way.
firstly, the guys are all playing games during Hanukkah, so they aren’t able to celebrate it to the full extent.
she, Luke, and Jack get a menorah for the apartment, and Luke teaches her about the history of the holiday. they each give each other a small gift each night, and Dolly tries her best to be respectful of the holiday and their religion/traditions. Dolly even sends a box with Hanukkah gifts to Quinn and to Ellen and Jim.
then for christmas, the guys have the nhl-wide small break, so they fly to Michigan on christmas eve and spend christmas altogether; which is the chaotic part.
the house is full of shouting and the boys running around and play fighting.
at one point on Christmas day, after the presents have been opened and after the chaos dies down, Luke realizes Dolly is missing and he’s looking all over the house for her before he glances out his bedroom window and finds her outside in the snow. she’s just sitting on the ground, making what appears to be an army of mini snowmen.
when he goes outside to sit with her, he realizes she’s made six mini snowmen. and when he asks about them, she looks up at him with this breathtaking smile and tells him it’s them. there’s an Ellen and Jim, a Quinn, a Jack, and her and Luke.
he sits down beside her and just pulls her into his side and tells her that he’s happy she’s there.

The traditionally Christian holiday of Christmas is celebrated by right and left-wingers alike, but for Pastafarians like myself, it can be difficult to know how to bring a festive spirit to the holiday season without undermining our beliefs in our great noodley overlord. In our tradition (circa 2005), every Friday is a religious holiday, but if we want to fit in with our many Christian colleagues, we’ve got to adopt some of their traditions as well. Here is a quick guide for fitting in this holiday season without betraying your pasta-related beliefs in the Flying Spaghetti Monster:
1. The “Christmas” Tree
In order to blend in with our Christian neighbors, we Pastafarians often adopt the same evergreen tree around the holiday season. While Christians top the tree with an angel or star, we Pastafarians adorn our trees with noodly representations of our Lord and Savior, the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I know that this seems strange, but it’s just a part of our beliefs, and honestly, it fits in better than the non-perennial Jewish Menorah or Kwanzaa Kinara.
Tumblr media
2. The Exchange of Gifts
In Pastafarian religion, the offer of gifts is usually seen as a sign of goodwill and transcendent of the time of year.  Generally speaking, Pastafarians give gifts when they feel the other party needs said gift, but because the traditions of the Christian season demand an exchange, it is perfectly reasonable for Pastafarians to join in and contribute. Make sure your gifts are logical and interesting for the other party. While it’s great to give gifts for the sake of the season, it’s even better if your gifts are relevant and necessary for the receiver. Spaghetti strainers and home-made marinara sauces are excellent gifts for traditional Pastafarians.
3. Lighting and Decorations
Most Pastafarians believe that decorating your home is not a function of the time of year, but rather a result of the connection you feel to the noodley great one. Even so, if all your neighbors are putting up lights, why not join in the fun? Pastafarian decorating – like Christmas decorating – usually involves an homage to our Lord and Savior, so putting up a creative design to honor the Great Noodley One is never a bad idea. It might even win you a decorative competition!
Tumblr media
4. The Nativity Scene
It’s pretty easy to adjust a traditionally Christian nativity scene to fit your Pastafarian beliefs. Just remove the infant Jesus figure and replace him with an al dente version of your favorite Italian delight. Most of your Christian friends won’t even notice the change, and for those who ask, you get the opportunity to bear witness to your noodley savior!
Tumblr media
5. The Christmas Meal
Ham or Turkey are normally the center of Christian Christmases , but as a Pastafarian, you know you’ve got to bring a few carbohydrates to this meal. If you feel that you must compromise, Turkey Spaghetti or Ham and Pasta Soup would both be great middle grounds. That way, you’re including your noodley lord as well as the traditional meats of the season.
If you’ve got your own Pastafarian traditions for the Holidays, let me know about them in the comments below, and in the mean time, may the Great Noodley One be with you!

Chana (known elsewhere as Miriam), was first mentioned as nameless mother of seven sons in The Book of Maccabees II, Chapter 7. She and her seven sons were captured by Antiochus. Seeking to make an example of them, he orders her first son to consume pork. When he refuses, he tortures him to death. The woman has to watch each of her sons be tortured and killed before her eyes. When he reached her final and youngest son, he offers to spare him if he would only comply to his demands. The woman urges her son to refuse him, and he does, and her final and youngest son is murdered brutally. Overcome with grief, the commits dies. In Eicha Rabbah 1:50, the woman's sons are instead commanded to bow to an idol instead of eat pork. (Personal note: This version makes more sense. One is not required to die rather than eat pork, it is not something one is required to be martyred for). In this version, the woman is named Miriam. As her seventh and final son is taken away, she instructs him to speak to Avraham in the afterlife, to tell him, "Do not be overly impressed with yourself and say: I built an altar and sacrificed Isaac, my son. My mother built seven altars and sacrificed seven sons on one day. Yours was an ordeal, mine was an action." After her final son is killed, Miriam throws herself off of a roof in grief. In the Book of Josiphon, she is named Chana, in association with the stanza in Chana's prayer in Shmuel I 2:5, reading, "While the barren woman bears seven, The mother of many is forlorn." In modern times, the woman is known best as Chana.
Chana and her sons' martyrdom is recounted on Chanukah. Here in my portrayal of her, I associate her seven sons with the seven flames of the Menorah in the Beit HaMikdash. Chanukah is known in popular culture as a celebration of the "Miracle of the Oil", and while that is a big part of the celebration, Chanukah is also a celebration of a military victory over the colonizing Greeks. Many, many people died in the process. Most of the original Maccabees themselves died by the time the Greeks were fully driven out of Judea, and many more unnamed heroes did too.
The miracle of the seven flames of the Menorah lasting for eight days would not have been possible without the sacrifice of many, including Chana's seven sons.
Remembering the sacrifices of those who came before us and how so many were lost in the fight to make our world a better place is a lesson we can all learn today.

In the spirit of OC Challenges, our first challenge is dedicated to Jewish OCs; an ethnoreligious group and nation originating from the Israelites and Hebrews of historical Israel and Judah. Create to your heart's content, and if you don’t have one of your own then feel free to make a new one inspired by this prompt or make something for someone else’s Jewish OC!
Day Two: All of The Honor (December 2nd)
Most winter holidays are about the appreciation of life, family, and friends. Today we’re making something to show an appreciation for someone else. Make something for a Jewish OC creator, let them know that they're loved and cherished.
Day Three: Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah (December 3rd)
Day three is all about the holiday itself! Make or write something nice about your Jewish OC celebrating Hanukkah by themselves, their friends, or family, or even an non Jewish OC celebrating with their Jewish friends or family!
Day Four: A Game of Dreidel (December 4th)
Much like the teetotum, the dreidel is a four sided spinning top toy that bears letters of the Hebrew alphabet. The game has become a famous tradition during Hanukkah, created as a way to help those study the Torah. Show us what your OC’s dreidel would look like or write about your OC playing the game with friends and family!
Day Five: Light The Candles, Count Your Blessings
On the first night of Hanukkah when you light the first candle with the shamash, you recite three blessings. For this day, take a look at what your OC values and the things and people they are thankful then make an edit or write something to highlight those things.
Day Six: In Honor of The Maccabees (December 6th)
The Maccabees were a priestly family of Jews who organized a successful rebellion against the Seleucid ruler Antiochus IV and reconsecrated the defiled Temple of Jerusalem. What is something that your oc would die / risk their life for? Have they done it already? Have they lead a rebellion or campaigned for change?
Day Seven: A Great Miracle Happened Here (December 7th)
In the holy temple in Jerusalem, a menorah burned for eight days. It became known as a miracle, giving Jews time to purify and rededicate sacred space. Where did your OCs miracles happen? Is there a place they consider sacred or special? A place that brings them great comfort?
Day Eight: Miracle of Eight Days (December 8th)
A small vial of oil to keep the flames burning for one night somehow miraculously burned the Temple's menorah for eight days during a time of war and prosecution. In that span of time, they were able to make more oil and keep the eternal flame lit. Has your OC ever experienced a miracle, figurative or literal? Has something they needed or loved but expected to abandon them lasted through their worries? Write or edit something about your OC’s personal miracles.
WINTER SOLSTICE Challenges inspired by The Winter Solstice!
Day Nine: Blessed Be (December 9th)
Blessed be our capacity for creativity, creating ocs has made us friends and brightened our darkest days. Today, create something to celebrate a pagan oc.
Day Ten: Brightest Blessings (December 10th)
A good person wishes others only the brightest blessings, and today we are going to give our own blessings. Create something for a pagan oc creator!
Day Eleven: Time of Reflection (December 11th)
One tradition in winter solstice celebrations is to reflect on your past and those in it, for day eleven we are going to look at an oc from long past. Maybe you want to look at your first oc and reflect on how they’ve changed from first draft to final product? Maybe there’s an oc you’ve decided to scrap or finished with that you would like to honor one last time with an edit or drabble?
Day Twelve: Bask in The Evergreens (December 12th)
Evergreens are famous and honored for the exact reason you’d think— they remain lush even in the harshest circumstances. Today is all about forevers. Perhaps you want to honor an oc that remains eternal in your heart or persistent in your mind, maybe even do something as simple as creating something for an immortal oc?
Day Thirteen: Back to Mother Nature (December 13th)
One winter solstice tradition is to give back to nature and the creatures it mothers, some do this by decorating a tree to highlight it’s beauty and some do this by decorating a tree with edible food for animals among other things. For today, honor an oc who loves the natural phenomenons of their world whether that be through a love of nature, nature powers, or care for the animals of the world.
Day Fourteen: All The Pretty Lights (December 14th)
The winter solstice is celebrated on the shortest day and longest night of the year, thus we must find light in different ways. For this day, honor an oc who finds or is the light in the darkest day. Perhaps they are a mirrorball, reflecting all the best parts of others. Perhaps they simply have a talent in keeping hope alive, continuing to show love and optimism through all hardships no matter how hard survival is?
Day Fifteen: May The Flame Warm Our Hearts and Light Our Way (December 15th)
Today is about dedication; to gods and goddesses, those we cherish, our places of worship. For today, perhaps show or tell us how your OC would decorate their Yule alter? Perhaps how they would choose to honor their deities? Maybe show or discuss what gifts they would give to those they cherish?
Day Sixteen: Merry Solstice (December 16th)
It’s time for another celebration, this day is all about the holiday itself! Tell us about how your oc celebrates yule! Do they bake gingerbread, craft wreaths? Do they sit around the bonfire and tell stories?
Day Seventeen: Time of New Beginnings (December 17th)
Besides reflection, winter solstice is also big on renewal and new discoveries or ideas. Today, it’s time to do something to represent newness and change! You could create a brand new oc, perhaps highlight an oc with qualities you’d like to emobody in the new year in attempts of changing your life for the better?
MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS Some merry challenges for a merry christmas!
Day Eighteen: Baby’s First Christmas (December 18th)
Over the first year of a baby’s life, many people document a lot of the major moments—but when it comes to making memories, there’s nothing quite like Christmas Time. Recount your OC's first Christmas as an infant or as a recently new parent whose trying to make the holiday special with their little bundle of joy!
Day Nineteen: With Your Under The Mistletoe (December 19th)
In Norse culture, the Mistletoe plant was a sign of love and peace and Figg promised to kiss anyone who passed underneath it. For Celtic Druids, it was used to ward off evil spirits, provide good luck and even help to improve fertility. No matter what origins you prefer or have grown up knowing, both created the tradition of mistletoe hanging in the archway of a room where two rooms met to become one. Create something to celebrate two becoming one with an OC and their significant other under the mistletoe.
Day Twenty: For You and Me (December 20th)
The season is about giving and surprising those you care about with the perfect gift. Create a gif for your best friend who is in love with one or a few of your OCs! Make something inspired by your conversations that were based on an AU or a crossover with their very own OCs.
Day Twenty-One: Rocking Around The Christmas Tree (December 21st)
The Christmas tree, a symbol that represents permanence and immortality and decorated with lights, ornaments, and a star on top for the shining hope for humanity. For this challenge, write about and show how your OC(s), or send asks to your fellow creators about how their OC(s) would decorate their tree! Do they have a family tree that have homemade ornaments? Do they just have a personal pencil tree with peculiar theme? Do they get a fake tree or a real tree.
Day Twenty-Two: Jingle Bells Are Ringing, Everyone is Singing (December 22nd)
Other than gifts and decorating, Christmas music is a major part of the Holidays. From "All I Want for Christmas Is You" to "Last Christmas" which song best relates to your OC(s) this season? Do they enjoy Christmas Caroling around the neighbourhood? Do they sing a certain song every year that people automatically associate with them?
Day Twenty-Three: From Mine to Yours (December 23rd)
Christmas Cards are a great way to share love to those who live miles away from you, especially if you have no idea what to give them and just insert a $50 gift card in the envelope. Create a card that your OC would gift to someone else to spread kindness and warmth this chilly season.
Day Twenty-Four: Christmas Special (December 24th)
Hallmark is known for their very cheesy romantic TV Christmas movies but we always sit and devour the plot no matter what. As for the mainstream blockbuster movies such as Love Actually, The Holiday, and A Bad Moms Christmas, these are the movies that follow a different formula by giving us individual looks into the holiday season for different people and families with their own troubles and personal goals. For this day, you'll be inserting your OC(s) into their very own Holiday Special AU or making something for the actual holiday special of their fandom!
Day Twenty-Five: Giving, Receiving, and Appreciating (December 25th)
For the day in question that inspired the last seven challenges, we're taking it easy. To complete Christmas Day's challenge, simply make sure you signed up for and submitted ocpotlucks gift exchange than watch out for your gift and be sure to compliment others ocs and creations you see on the blog.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Some challenges to prepare us for the New Year!
Day Twenty-Six: First of The Year (December 26th)
Before we enter a new year of new beginning, let’s reflect on this years beginnings. For day one of our New Years themed challenges, let’s honor the first oc you made *this* year with some writing or an edit.
Day Twenty-Seven: You Make My Year Better (December 27th)
Saying goodbye is hard, but the hello can sometimes make everything worth it. For this day, appreciate a fandom you said hello to this year by making something for an oc you made for said new fandom.
Day Twenty-Eight: A Toast To You (December 28th)
You’ve heard it from a million people in a million ways; Skam says people need people, Girl Meets World says the secret of life is that people change people. So this day is about those people in the oc community who made your year better, and more specifically the ocs they created that changed and inspired your own writing and creativity. That’s right, we’re making something for your favorite oc of the year by someone else.
Day Twenty-Nine: The Best Part Of My Year (December 29th)
We all need ways to get through life, sometimes those things are always the same and sometimes they are hyper-fixations that get you up in the morning to explore. So, what oc did you find yourself fixating on most this year? Was it a brand new one, perhaps an old one you haven’t thought about in a while? On the twenty-eighth, use your passion to create something for your MOTY… muse of the year.
Day Thirty: I Still Love You (December 30th)
Friends break up, friends get married, strangers get born and strangers get buried, trends change, rumors fly through new skies… But that doesn’t mean some things don’t stay with us even when they lose our focus. Today, we are showing some love to those we may have accidentally left behind by making something for an oc you love that you feel you may have neglected this year.
Day Thirty-One: Practice Makes Perfect (December 31st)
A lot can change in just seconds, and even more can change in 365 days. Over the year, we’ve all learned and grown in so many different ways, and it’s time to show off. Remake an edit or rewrite a draft from early this year to remind yourself and others how far you’ve come!
Day Thirty-Two: Resolution (January 1st)
One of the most well-known traditions of new year celebration is to make resolutions. A New Year’s resolution is when someone makes a promise or sets an expectation for the new year that they are determined to live up too. Although these resolutions don’t always stay resolute, let’s get a good start on our attempts by making something on the first day of the year for an oc you want to appreciate and work on more throughout 2023.
