when you think about it. madara is just. so. niasndladnsndlnls

as soon as he shows up he starts his "can't rely on any of these losers smh" crap and he keeps doing it. he constantly has to do things himself bc his minions are all fuck-ups or have entirely separate agendas or are fuck-ups with entirely separate agendas. and yet

again and again and again and AGAIN he trusts people. not even for good reasons sometimes. he genuinely seems to believe he can't rely on anyone other than himself and yet he repeatedly puts faith in people. some of them are complete strangers

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀CURSE OF CAPULET is the fictional debut mini—album by the idol band BELLADONNA released on February 14, 2024. After their win on Superband, Belladonna would take five months to write and produce their first album with the help of Plastic Flowers SALEM and OLIVER and former Lush member DALLAS LINWOOD. Along with the songs written by the members, Salem had gifted them an old draft, RENEWAL, which was supposed to appear on Wind and Rain in 2019 but was replaced with another song. The album takes on themes of love, desperation, mortality, and the inevitability of fate with their concept changing from girlhood to medieval and renaissance imagery, often seeing the girls depicted as saints. The album had one title track, BURN ALIVE, but RENEWAL was also promoted as a b-side.

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀Curse of Capulet comes from the play Romeo and Juliet by Williams Shakespeare as it's themes closely resemble the overall meaning of their debut album. It is a reference to Mercutio's death in Act III, scene I in which he curses both the Capulets and Montagues with "a plague o' both your houses!", blaming both of them for his death. He wants Romeo to know that he blames the feuding families for his fate and remind Romeo that his love for Juliet was the reason for his death to Tybalt, Juliet's short tempered cousin. The album was released with TWO versions: ROMEO and JULIET, with the back cover featuring quotes from both characters alongside the tracklist.

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀TRACKLIST.

‘ # 001.⠀ ⠀OLIM ──── written by kwak yulli, produced by oliver song, and performed by belladonna. olim is an introduction track to belladonna's debut track and mimics catholic hymns, with the word olim itself representing the beginning of a fairytale. the translation goes as: "once, long ago God arrived in this age of brightness / He will come again" and is repeated twice. all members of belladonna referred to this as the hardest recording session that they've ever had. the idea was brought up by oliver as a joke, but yulli saw it as the perfect time to flex her old latin skills from attending catholic skills. it was almost cut completely, but the girls were able to save it at the last minute.

‘ # 002.⠀ ⠀TITLE TRACK: BURN ALIVE ──── written and produced by bae haena, performed by kwak yulli. in their debut single, belladonna comes out swinging as they depict themes of addiction, self-destruction, and the sacrifices made for love. the main imagery of the song is a toxic relationship where both parties are consumed by their vices and are unable to break the cycle of destructive patterns. because of this relationship, they are no longer who they aspired to be and desire to capitalize on their own pain, a reflection on modern society.

‘ # 003.⠀ ⠀THEATRE ──── written by ko sarang, produced by dallas linwood, performed by kwak yulli. theatre explores the desire for love and acceptance through the lens of a theatrical performance. it delves into the idea of yearning for a love that feels like it belongings in a grand gesture from a movie or performance. the narrator is willing to go through the motions by pretending and faking emotions just to fulfill this dream of being loved. they yearn to be loved and adored as a film star, swept up in a fantasy where all their desires are achieved.

‘ # 004.⠀ ⠀FORTUNATE ISLES ──── written by kim eulsun and kim wonhui, produced by dallas linwood, and performed by kwak yulli. this song is often the one that gets the most criticism as professionals and netizens alike believe it doesn't fit the sound of the album. however, the girls are always ready to double down on how much they love the song. taking it's name from the greek island where all their greatest heroes lived, fortunate isles conveys the story of a letter being delivered to an ex lover who isn't quiet over their relationship yet, asking to be reborn in spring so they can live together forever.

‘ # 005.⠀ ⠀RENEWAL ──── written and produced by salem kueakulsri, performed by kwak yulli. renewal was a gift to the members of belladonna from plastic flowers leader, salem kuekulsri. in an instagram live, she confirmed that it had intended to be a plastic flowers song, but it was cut and eventually left in her vault of music. she said that she gave it to belladonna to remind them that they always hold the power in their lives and as a way to keep them strong. it explores themes of personal growth and resilience in the face of adversity, wanting to start anew and find solace in oneself after experiencing setbacks and challenges. by "growing a new plant in your head", the narrator can reach a new sense of personal transformation and optimism, leaving anyone that doubted them behind.

‘ # 006.⠀ ⠀LOVERS ──── written by bae haena, produced by oliver song, performed by kwak yulli. haena is quickly establishing herself as the queen of heartbreaking ballads in the group and fans absolutely love it. in this slower track, yulli really shines vocally as she laments on a relationship that failed, but only just realizing how good she had it. with only two verses and a chorus, their message comes across very well as they repeat "i wish you were with me" and "me as yours, you as mine".

‘ # 007.⠀ ⠀PAGAN POETRY ──── written by kwak yulli, produced by oliver song and dallas linwood, performed by kwak yulli. this song explores the spiritual connection between two people as the singer s pedalling through the dark currents and finding an accurate copy of another's pleasure inside of her. this connection is described as a secret code carved into black lilies, something deeply romantic and spiritual. the concept of paganism is reflected in the individual's connection to the divine as deeply personal and the beauty and spiirtualiy is celebrated.

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀STYLING.

★⠀⠀ ⁄ ⠀⠀ERA SUMMARY.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS: 200,000 sales in the first week and a nomination on every major south korea music show. fans were unable to get them a win, but they would only place behind the actual winner by a few points, making it possible for the next era.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀belladonna's fandom name, DOVES, would be announced by the girls in a video on how to cheer for burn alive. it was chosen because doves are often seen as a symbol of peace, freedom, or love—all things their fans provided for belladonna.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀the budget was the talk of the town. everyone was supervised to see how lavish and beautiful their concept photos, music videos, and performance outfits were. it drove poppies mad and they demanded for equal treatment for the two.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀ fan wars started between DOVES and POPPIES as soon as it was confirmed salem and oliver were working on the album. many accused belladonna of not being able to write or produce their own music, which is objectively not true as seen by their superband run, and were just overall nasty towards the girls.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀ the OLIVER and YULLI DATING RUMORS. . . someone had posted a video of them looking a bit too close after plastic flowers' performance at cheeky's and twitter just ran with it. superbloom had to issue a statement saying they were just friends and had a close "senior—junior artist" relationship.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀ enough about plastic flowers! DALLAS LINWOOD was praised for his work on the album! after announcing his retirement from performing, most were excited to see him working on music again and he did not disappoint on these arrangements.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀ belladonna performed and WON their first time on immortal songs: singing the legends. they were on the PATTI KIM episode and sang MOTHER'S HEART IN SEOUL! it was praised by the older generation of domestic netizens and the girls will definitely be returning.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀all of the girls were supposed to have their natural hair colors for this promotional period, but haena had over plans. without telling superbloom, she bleached her own hair and it surprisingly came out well! when the company found out, she was forced to tone it and it remained a white color.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀many pre-debut fans were disappointed by their concept shift. though it was hinted at in the later rounds of superband, many wanted them to keep their "girl—rock" sound because they could relate to what they were singing about. there's a clear divide between these stans and those that enjoyed the curse of capulet.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀they were given a reality show called THE BELLA'S, which was filled with fun challenges and the girls getting to know each other! it's a loved series by fans and is still being uploaded even after promotions ended. they had a whole episode on haena's hair, which was an instant classic.

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀despite knowing each other for less than a year, BELLADONNA seemed very close. they have amazing chemistry together and even showed how well they knew each other on BLOOM WITH US, with YULLI being the overall winner because she "loves her members".

‘ # 000.⠀ ⠀they also posted various covers including EDGE OF SEVENTEEN by stevie nicks, NIGHT SHIFT by lucy dacus, CHILL KILL by red velvet, THE CHAIN by plastic flowers, DITTO by newjeans, and many more.

Okay, here’s my WIP Romeo & Juliet Percy Jackson AU. I have the plot written out, but I’m just gonna list the characters for now.

Benvolio: Son of Athena

- Soft features from his father but has Athena’s sharp grey eyes

- He’s really smart and stuff

- Battle strategy, good foil for Tybalt

- Peacemaker stuff

Mercutio: Son of Dionysus

- Drama, wine, pretty self explanatory

- His father is IN CHARGE OF THE CAMP

- Also they control madness, like, insanity, something something queen Mab

- Need I say more

Romeo: Son of Apollo

- Loser simp vibes

- POETRY??????

- He’s a romantic and just the embodiment of sunshine

- Apollo cabin versus Ares cabin, good foil for Tybalt

- Something something plague

Tybalt: Son of Ares

- Angry boyo

- WAR???? He literally hates peace

- Good foil for Benvolio because Athena versus Ares

- Good foil for Romeo because the Apollo/Ares cabin conflict mirrors Montague/Capulet

- Dynamic w/ Juliet as basically siblings because Ares/Aphrodite

Juliet: Daughter of Aphrodite

- Idk man she’s really pretty and loves love and stuff

- Dynamic with Tybalt like siblings because of Ares/Aphrodite stuff

Other notable half-bloods include:

- Rosalind (Rosaline?): Demeter cabin, hunter of Artemis (she hath sworn that she will still live chaste, get it??? She’s an aro queen)

- Paris: Hephaestus cabin (I have no good reasoning except that I think it’s funny with Juliet being an Aphrodite kid)

Romeo&Benvolio and Tybalt&Juliet are still going to be related on their mortal sides despite having separate godly parents, don’t worry, I have it all figured out.

Also, the plot is going to try to follow the actual R&J plot but at Camp Half-Blood (ex: 1.5 is gonna happen at the campfire and 3.1 is just going to be during capture the flag, more on that later)

THE FIRST SEASON OF OUTER BANKS IS JUST ROMEO AND JULIET

Sarah and John B's love draws people in because people love the idea of star-crossed lovers in any form of media. Because we're fascinated by love and tragedy intertwined, and even more fascinated by people trying to overcome all odds to find happiness, even when it's not in the stars for them. Which is exactly why so many people are drawn to the story of Romeo and Juliet. (or maybe its just leonardo dicaprio) And at first star-crossed love is all they have in common. But if the Kooks are Capulets, and the Pogues are Montagues then all the characters start to fall into place.

The Kooks/Capulets:

Sarah = Juliet The leading woman. Both are young and beautiful and naive on their ideas of what love is and what it should be, both get drawn into a whole different world when they meet their lover, and both are willing to risk everything, including their family to stay with them.

Rafe = Tybalt The violent relative. In Rafe's case it's a brother, and in Tybalts case its a cousin, but in both cases they'll do anything for their family honor and their own honor, including hurting and killing people who aren't even involved with their fight just because they can.

Topper = Paris The jealous ex-lover. The person who was to be with The Leading Woman from the start, and despite a bad attitude about their scorned(or lost) love doesn't grow violent till it all starts coming to an end and they get defensive of the woman they loved, and even then they're still able to make amends.

Weezie = The Nurse The nosy close friend of The Leading Woman. They are more different from each other than many of the other characters. But both are the closest female friend The Leading Woman has, are incredibly nosy, and don't particularly care who she ends up with as long as there is a little drama.

Ward = Capulet The Kook/Capulet patriarch. They're both an enemy of The Leading Man's family, both family oriented towards their own family but in an unhealthy way. Successful and commanding of respect, but liable to fly into a rage when things don't go their way.

Rose = Lady Capulet The ineffective mother. Neither of these characters are well connected to their families despite any efforts they put forward. Both are young and inexperienced.

The Pogues/Montagues:

John B = Romeo The leading man. Impulsive and immature but also, idealistic and passionate, aware of the fight going on, but not at all interested in it. Both affectionate and devoted to their friends. Both are absolutely captivated by their new love and do everything they can for them to stay together.

Pope = Benvolio The peaceful friend. They spend a lot of their time throughout the story trying to keep the peace between their friends and other violent characters. Level headed and thoughtful, they try to diffuse a lot of violence especially in public places.

Kiara = Benvolio/Mercutio The friend with a foot in both worlds. As Mercutio is a relative of the duke and doesn't even have a reason to be involved in the rivalry, Kiara is technically a Kook and doesn't need to be involved in the rivalry either. She's sarcastic and salty like Mercutio, but also pragmatic, sensitive and an advocate for peace like Benvolio. (She could also be translated as Rosaline, Romeo's love at the beginning of the play, but I feel like Kiara is too important to be brought down to just that character.)

JJ = Mercutio The reckless friend. Hotheaded and chaotic, they spend a good amount of time getting into fights or encouraging others to do so. They're both imaginative with a strange sense of humor, and wildly loyal. They're both implied to be more sexually active than their friends and flirt with anything that moves.

Both Montague and Lady Montague are far less involved in the story line than the heads of the Capulet family which could be translated as John B's parents being out of the picture.

Other Characters:

Peterkin/the police department = Prince Escalus Law enforcement. They want to help and attempt to maintain the peace at all costs, but are too uninvolved and oblivious of what is actually going on to actually play an important part in the situation.

Nobody = Friar Laurence Everything the friar does for the story comes from somebody else in Outer Banks. Escape plans, support, soothing words, and even legally marrying two people, all come from separate characters.

The details of how the story goes down are obviously changed up, but key elements are the same. Romeo and Juliet fall in love, and in an unrealistically fast amount of time are willing to do anything for each other. Romeo's friends notice a difference in his behavior. Mercutio takes a hypothetical bullet for a friend and takes their place in a fight that isn't his. (JJ saying it was him, and not Pope that sunk the boat.) Because of this Tybalt is ultimately a huge part of Mercutios downfall (emotionally and physically or fatally)( and Benvolio is there for Mercutio in those moments when Romeo isn't!!!!) Romeo is accused of a death that wasn't (entirely) his fault and has to go on the run from the law. Juliet dies. (disappears) Paris and Romeo fight. Paris and Romeo are tolerably respectful of each other in their very last moments with each other. A plot is hatched for Romeo and Juliet so that they can still be together. (In John B and Sarah's case they plan it together) The plan goes wrong. They decide they would rather die than be without each other. (Sarah literally says the words, "I would rather die than be without you") They hold each other as they die. (Or are presumed dead)

By the end of the season it's made clear that a social divide is never going to come to anything good. It's about young people who are torn apart by their families or cultures or things that were decided far before they were born or far before they could have any say in it and how they're stronger after realized that what they are fighting is not each other. Despite being a cliche, love overcomes all things and kids are smarter than they seem. The only major differences are that in Romeo and Juliet, the death is permanent and far more tragic, and the reaction that is had by their family and their people is that of overcoming their differences. They overcome their differences for their children and because they realize that it was their fault Romeo and Juliet were driven to this. Love prevails. Whereas in Outer Banks, they eventually come back (yay) and a lot of the people who drove them away were corrupt and didn't care, or change. I like to think that was a plot choice, for the sake of an ongoing story and that love prevails eventually.

Anyways, if you got this far thanks for entertaining my rants, sometimes i like to hyper-analyse every single thing, there were a lot more things that i did not add because it is obscenely long now

Hermia always had a steady hand when it came to makeup, it made Juliette a bit jealous at times. Even at her young age, she had tons of practice from applying theater makeup. Luckily for Juliette though, Hermia was always willing to work on a new canvas. She needed to look perfect tonight, and for Romeo to fall for her even more.

Her cousin Rosaline was going to be in attendance, and she was not a fan of Juliette’s new relationship with her ex. Were they ever actually dating though? It barely lasted a few weeks, yet Rosaline’s scowls towards her grew colder with every sighting.

“What are you planning on saying to Tybalt if he catches Romeo here?” Hermia teased, gently blending in the foundation on Juliette’s face. It was certainly a possibility, but Juliette was going to do her best to prevent that from happening.

“Well, that isn’t going to happen,” Juliette assured with a small smile, sitting up straight as Hermia applied concealer to her under eyes. “He’s coming late, so I’ll have already done all of my socializing by then and he’ll be staying firmly outside by the patio—“ Juliette looked straight at her sister, “And of course my loyal little sister will be there to warn me if Tybalt’s nearby, right?”

Hermia rolled her eyes with a small smirk, “That sounds like a lot of work on my side, what exactly do I get in return?”

“I’ll continue to keep your huge crush on Mercutio a secret from Tybalt,” Juliette replied, “He’s suspicious of your friendship already, and he might have us both under lock and key if he ever were to find out about the extent of your feelings.”

Her sister could only stare at her momentarily, surprised at her sister’s retort. However, Hermia’s lips quickly curled up into a smirk, “You’re really sneaky sometimes—but I suppose that is a fair trade agreement.”

“Now, speaking of that Monty,” Juliette teased, watching as her sister picked out an eyeshadow palette to use. “How are things going with him?” She asked, “Is it love? Does he treat you well?”

Hermia laughed as she grabbed an eyeshadow brush, dipping it into a neutral pink color, tapping off the excess powder. “You move so fast, Juliette,” She joked, “But things are nice, he’s quite sweet too.”

“I somehow find that hard to believe, but I suppose I’ll take your word for it,” She giggled, “Now what about Puck though? I know you’ve liked them since you were a child, is that still a thing?”

“I would say so, yes,” Hermia assured as she nodded, “We’ve been spending more time together at play rehearsals as well.” Juliette knew Puck well, although clearly not as much as Hermia. The pair had been inseparable since childhood, it seemed rather—presumed that they would one day be together.

“And I do think Puck would make a better partner in the long run,” Her sister admitted, “I do really like Mercutio but he can be a bit—“

“Childish? Arrogant?” Juliette suggested teasingly as she raised an eyebrow, “Constantly picking fights with your dear older brother?” While she supported her sister’s happiness, she did not like Mercutio one bit. It wasn’t because he was a Monty, that wasn’t the issue at all. No, Juliette’s issue with Mercutio was that he was a conceited ass.

She dealt with him for Romeo’s sake, but she certainly hoped Hermia would not date him as it would mean seeing him more than she already did.

“You sound just like someone I know,” Hermia replied jokingly, “And I was going to say…tentative, I can never quite tell how he’s feeling, if he feels the same, if he’s even interested in dating at all.” The girl pursed her lips in thought for a moment, “But I suppose I shouldn’t confine myself to just one person yet anyways.”

“Smart girl,” Juliette agreed with a smile, “You never know who else could be out there.” It was a somewhat uncomfortable thought that she sometimes had herself. But Juliette knew she wasn’t interested in whoever else could be out there, Romeo was certainly the one.

She was young, but when you know—you know.

hi. so you're basically like the shakespeare fanartist on this hellsite and i need SO BADLY to tell you of what i witnessed.

i was at a ballet adaptation of romeo and juliet and when the masquerade scene started the guy playing mercutio deadass just faints dramatically on the floor. the capulets go and poke him to see if he's still alive and he keeps waking up just to kiss tybalt on the hand?? (and also lady capulet but that was only because she nudged him with her foot lol)

and while i AM a mercutio/benvolio shipper... what happened next was one of the greatest things i've ever seen.

so after this whole "waking up then fainting again" routine continues a couple more times tybalt gets on his knees to shake mercutio to check if he's actually dead or not. and he puts his ear to his chest.

it was at this point mercutio woke up, grabbed tybalt's face and kissed him. for a solid five seconds. then fainted again.

tybalt backed away really quick, stood on the spot staring at him and then wooshed his cape (HE HAD!! A CAPE!!) and rushed off the stage and then everyone cheered and my friend said "POP OFF KING" really loudly

10/10 performance

How ON-BRAND for Mercutio to create a scene 😂 I know there have been a couple performances where Merc does this with Romeo after Tybalt stabs him, but...this just sounds like he partied too hard at the ball. What an icon!

Also, yes! I like Merc/Ben as well but did you know that Merc and Tybalt being exes canonically fits into every aspect of the play and also explains almost all of his actions? An essay I can save for another day but, knowing his character (and knowing how drunk they are at the ball), this totally fits.

Who is the deuteragonist of MHA (spoilers: Bakugou)

I have to be honest, I find most of these debates quite useless, so I wanted to explain why. I do think all three main answers (Bakugou, Shigaraki, All Might) are valid based on how much each reader weights different sides of the definition of deuteragonist.

I am going to explain here why I think the majority of people believe Bakugou to be the deuteragonist, and in general I do believe it too. I added the manga spoilers tag so that people can freely talk about recent plot points.

Now, it is been a while since I studied any literature, so I will cite definitions from different websites.

Deuteragonist, from the merriam webster dictionary, is the actor taking the part of second importance in a classical Greek drama or who serves as a foil to another. The word does come from the Greek theater world. Protagonist is the main character involved in the struggle given by the plot. https://literarydevices.net/deuteragonist/ defines it as:

So it CAN be an antagonist (someone can have both roles of antagonist and deuteragonist, by this definition), and the important part is "being the second main character". Wikipedia gives this definition (these are what they cite, in second pic):

Here are some examples from my personal favourite literature texts.

In Romeo and Juliet, Benvolio or Mercutio might be considered the deuteragonist. If you are not too familiar with the play, Benvolio is one of the Montagues, and Romeo's confidant, but also a friend of both Mercution and Romeo. Mercutio is the "neutral, non neutral" party, and definitely one of the protagonists, but his story is cut short when he is killed. I have seen Benvolio mainly chosen the the deuteragonist because he acts as a close companion to Romeo, but Mercutio is the one who emotionally changes the path of Romeo's story (his death leads to the whole revenge thing). Important note: you can have more than one deuteragonist. It is not a "only one prize for one character only". Furthermore, notice how Tybalt is not seen as the deuteragonist even if he is the one changing the course of the story (he acts as an antagonist, and ends up killing Mercutio, and then being killed by Romeo).

Another example is Watson in Sherlock Holmes. Watson is Holmes' companion and the deuteragonist for basically all the books. Here the deuteragonist is such because he acts as a companion, confidant and friend of Holmes, but also contrasts to Holmes (they sometimes disagree on stuff), not to mention the fact that he simply is the most present character after Holmes.

Another deuteragonist is Marius from Les Miserables, where he falls into the "second protagonist" role. I wanted to cite this in particular because Les Mis is a quite long narrative, and Marius only appears in the last part. The two only interacts briefly, and here the term deuteragonist is mainly used as second protagonist given that the story follows Marius too, after his appearance. Marius also partecipates in Valjean's character development (by getting him out of his shell, so to say). Notice how Javert (my favourite) appears multiple times in the story, is in conflict to Valjean, is the opposite and complementary to Valjean and the antagonist, but because he does not partecipate in Valjean's character arc (the opposite is true tho), and because he is not as present as Marius, he is not defined as the deuteragonist. (By the way, when I say that Valjean and Javert are complementary and in contrast I mean.... literally. Hugo created both of their characters by dividing the characteristics of a real existing person named Eugène François Vidocq). Yes, Valjean/Javert is my ultimate otp, but this is a discourse for another time.

Let's look now at more definitions. From: https://masterclass.com/articles/what-is-a-deuteragonist-in-literature… The deuteragonist can SOMETIMES assume different roles (ex. sidekick, lover, antagonist), so Shigaraki could be one ONLY if present in a story and playing a particular major role:

In the case of MHA, I think All Might and Bakugou could be deuteragonist, but I see a lot of people suggesting Shigaraki. Let's see all that is needed by pulling together these definitions:

Second main character (who struggle and overcomes)

Second main character (presence)

Confidant, companion, someone who helps the protagonist (but might switch to antagonist)

Act as a foil to the protagonist, embody similar qualities

Embody opposite qualities to contrast the protagonist

Has a role in the character development of the protagonist.

As I said up above, before we go point by point, keep in mind that everything has a certain level of subjectivity. There is only 1 point that has an objective measurement, and that is point 2. Let's start with point 1:

Now point (2): Second main character (presence). I determined this by counting number of panels of each character. Bakugou here is the one with the most presence after Deku, following we have Todoroki, very similar number to All Might. Shigaraki here is lower (almost half of Bkg presence):

Now, points 3 to 5:

And the final point, point (6), is about the role in the character development of the protagonist (Deku). This is particular important. For a more comprehensive descritption of Bakugou's role as a step ladder for Deku's character development, please read this before continuing:

And here is a summary of all 6 points. The only character who not only fits all three but also fits the only point (2) that has objectivity in it, is Bakugou:

Keep in mind that there is always a level of subjectivity in interpreting this point. The only objective one is the panel count (which Bakugou has, given he is the most present character in the story). But I do think Bakugou is the only one who best fit the multi-faceted idea of the deuteragonist. I also added Shigaraki a yes to point 6, but I do think his role in aiding Deku's character development is much smaller, and much more secondary, than Bakugou and All Might's.

This is just for fun but tbh I think Dora Szinetár is the closest to Shakespeare’s Juliet. I know people say she’s too aggressive and mature but if you reread the play Juliet *is* that way. She has so many lines about wanting love but also wanting sex (which is why she’s such an interesting character to me - you didn’t see a lot of female characters wanting sex, especially unmarried ones, at the time).

Anyway, I love how spunky and headstrong she is, while also being innocent and goofy (ex. in the marriage song at the beginning). I also think she’s closer to Shakespeare’s Juliet because she has no friends and is not surrounded by female family members like French, German, Russian etc Juliet. The Italian version is like this too, but this version is the closest to Shakespeare, even using lines from the play. I really enjoy Cécilia and Marjan’s portrayals, as well as the Zuka actresses, their Juliets come across as very childlike and sweet, but imo the closest to Shakespeare’s versions are Giulia, Dora, and both Russian Juliets (Evigeniya and Sofia, I haven’t seen Anna).

This is just for fun and rather silly, but in Shakespeare Juliet is canonically a Leo, and I think Dóra gives off the most ‘Leo’ vibes out of all Juliet’s I’ve seen. (Weirdly enough, in Da Porto’s original story she was a Virgo, which is just interesting to me idk). It’s funny to me bc it feels like all Juliets have different zodiac signs in different adaptions (while Romeo is almost consistently a Cancer). Resj Juliet gives off Leo Sun Scorpio Moon vibes, and resj Tybalt gives off Scorpio Sun Leo moon vibes to me (at least, Szilveszter’s Tybalt seems the most Scorpio to ever Scorpio period end of), because Tybalt and Júlia seem to mirror each other. Every other Tybalt gives me Aries or Leo vibes.

In my opinion:

- Cécilia’s Juliette - Libra or Pisces (Libra Sun Pisces moon??)

-Marjan’s Julia - Cancer

- Dóra’s Júlia - Leo

- Joy’s Juliette - idk she just gives me more mature and serious vibes, maybe an Earth sign? like Virgo or Capricorn. But she’s also more emotional, so maybe a Scorpio? I’ll have to rewatch to see.

- I’m unsure about Giulia’s Giulietta. Definitely fire or water (ie on the more emotional side) but I can’t decide which.

- Every Mercutio is or should be a Gemini, except the og

I'm currently reading David Blixt's essay on Romeo and Juliet "The origin of the feud". Have you read it? What are your thoughts about it? If you didn't, would you read it? So far I agree and disagree with some points he made but it is too early to say much since I started it a few hours ago.

…My man really just started writing fanfiction whole cloth. Woof.

So I did read (1) essay by him of the same title online, (he has a whole essay collection that somehow managed to be published) and boy, was it a doozy. Long story short, Blixt found it strange that Lady Montague’s off-stage death came so suddenly, basically tacked on at the end, and thought it might have a symbolic meaning—that is, signaling the end of the feud. From there he headcanoned that Lady Montague was the cause of the feud re: love triangle. Lords Capulet and Montague were once best friends turned rivals over the love of a woman, who would become Lady M.

First of all, the Chorus was clear that the feud was an ancient grudge; if a recent-ish love triangle were the cause, then it would certainly be the new mutiny. Second of all, for would-be ex-BFFs and rivals, Lord Capulet is eager to save face to young Count Paris and assure him that it would not be hard (he thinks) for him to keep the peace with Lord Montague, as they are both old. It’s possible, but not very probable.

Most likely Shakespeare axed Lady M off for symmetry—Romeo and Lady Montague from the Montague side, Juliet and Tybalt from the Capulets, and Mercutio and Paris from Escalus. Each side lost at least two people. (Then again, he did have Benvolio killed off-stage in the Bad Quarto, so it may not have been symmetry after all).

In any case, I also looked up some reviews of the whole essay collection and I’m not impressed, either. Apparently he is one of those R&J-is-a-comedy-turned-tragedy clowns, which makes sense given this fanfic-esque meta. He did write a fun-sounding novel called Her Majesty’s Will, though, so who knows? Maybe that will be my next read for some clown-eating.
