Morning Blooms
I suppose it makes sense that my first post on this blog is a fic. I did not expect it to be Merlin of all things, but I re-watched a few random episodes to escape finals stress and could not get it out of my brain.
Sir Leon x Reader (Gender Neutral)
Warnings: None
Summary: During a visit to Camelot after a long time away, you are reunited with your lover Sir Leon.
Sunlight streamed through the window, warming the spot where you sat combing out your hair. You had arrived in Camelot late yesterday evening —there as an emissary for a neighboring kingdom— and looked forward to the visit ahead.
Being from a noble family in a kingdom closely allied with the Pendragons meant that you had visited Camelot quite frequently in the past, as both child and adult, but it had been several years now since your last trip and you were eager to see the faces of old friends.
A knock on the chamber door broke you from your contemplation, and you called a gentle “come in,” before turning to watch a servant enter. She carried a polished serving tray in one hand and, to your surprise, a vase full of flowers in the other.
“Good morning,” she greeted with a respectful curtsy, “I have your breakfast here, as well as flowers I was instructed to deliver.”
“Thank you,” you replied, standing to make your way toward the table. You stopped at the spot where she had set the flowers, taking a moment to marvel at the delicate blooms—a cluster of white daisies with splashes of blue forget-me-nots mixed in. “Who sent these?” You asked, glancing up at the maidservant who had just finished laying out breakfast.
“They’re from Sir Leon, my liege.”
Sir Leon. You bit back the smile that tugged at your lips, looking back down at the flowers.
“I believe there is a note as well,” she added, gesturing to the parchment that you hadn’t yet noticed tied to a stem. “Is there anything else I can get you, my liege?”
“No, thank you,” you shook your head, and with another curtsy the maid departed. As soon as the door had closed behind her, you reached down and tugged the note free, smoothing the scrap of parchment against the table.
I’m sorry I could not greet you when you arrived last night, though I hope to make it up to you. Meet me at noon at our spot.
Now you really couldn’t stop the smile that spread across your face. Two years was far too long to have been away, and your stomach fluttered at the thought of Leon wanting to see you as much as you wanted to see him.
You ate your breakfast quickly, though you knew it would be several hours before Leon would be there to meet you. You could only pray that the time would fly by.
The two of you had never officially courted, but all of his fellow knights —and quite a few others besides— were well aware of the romantic feelings that existed between you. It had happened several years past when your kingdom was renewing its treaties with Camelot; you’d found yourself spending quite a bit of time here, assisting your Queen in the negotiations. You had met Leon before, but this time he’d been assigned to protect you when a threat was made against the new treaty, and as a result you’d grown quite close.
You could hardly wait to see him again, and when noon finally rolled around you practically skipped down to the place where you were set to meet. Your ‘spot’ —as he had written in the note— was an old oak that spread its branches over a secluded castle courtyard. You and he had spent many hours there, any time during your visits that you’d both had a free moment, and it had become a place quite dear to your heart.
Now, as you neared the door that would lead you out into that familiar courtyard, you slowed your pace. As you got closer and closer, a hint of nervousness wormed its way through you—what if something had changed between you in the time you’d been away? You knew Leon to be incredibly loyal, but it had been a long two years and you feared that perhaps he’d finally lost interest. The door before you stood ajar, and stepping up to it you peeked through to the courtyard beyond.
There, under the sprawling oaken branches, stood Leon. His curls fluttered in the breeze, and from his shoulders cascaded the bright crimson cloak of the Knights of Camelot. At the sight of him, all your previous doubts were swept away. You were brought back to the warm days spent in this very spot, laughing, talking, wondering at the future. Where he stood now, you could see him shifting back and forth, scuffing his feet against packed earth —A nervous habit. You almost chuckled at the thought that perhaps he was just as nervous as you were.
As quietly as you could manage, you pushed the door wide enough to slip through and entered into the courtyard. Here, the sun filtered in patches through the leaves of the oak, and only the faintest breeze reached down to tousle your hair. Creeping closer, you did your best to school your face into a neutral expression.
“Fancy seeing you here.”
The knight jumped, spun to face you, then immediately broke into a grin. Rushing to meet you, he opened his arms and you quickly fell into his embrace.
It was the warmest, most comforting hug you’d had in two years.
“I missed you,” he said quietly, words meant just for you.
“I missed you too,” you told him, wrapping your arms tighter around his waist.
As seconds stretched to minutes, the two of you stayed wrapped in each other’s arms, silently making up for far too much time spent apart. Finally, you gently pulled away.
“I’m sorry I was gone for so long, the Queen has been calling on me more than ever.” Leon just shook his head, face still lit by a warm smile.
“I understand, you have your duty as I have mine.” After he spoke, Leon took a long moment to look you up and down, as if checking to make sure you weren’t going to disappear. Though you were no longer hugging each other, his hands stayed on your arms, reluctant to break contact completely.
“You look amazing,” he finally commented, looking back into your eyes. You could feel the heat creeping into your face then, and marveled at the fact that the handsome knight could still make you blush so easily.
“I could say the same to you,” you managed to get out, reaching up a hand to brush a curl from his forehead.
Just then, voices drifted out from the corridor behind you, and both you and Leon glanced back, watching to make sure no one was coming out into the courtyard. You didn’t really have to hide your relationship, and certainly didn’t make much of an effort to do so, but this was a private moment; considering that fact that you’d not yet entered into any sort of official courtship, it wasn’t entirely proper to be meeting in secret like this.
When the voices had passed, Leon returned his gaze to you.
“How long do you have?” When he asked, you could hear a hint of apprehension as he wondered whether you would soon be whisked away to attend important political matters.
“All day,” you replied, and the way his face brightened, it was as if the sun itself had come out from behind the clouds. “I don’t have any court matters until late this evening, I was hoping to spend the day with you,” you confessed.
“I would love that,” his words came as a breathless whisper, and soon he was leaning in, lips just barely brushing yours. You closed the remaining space, and the kiss was so sweet and gentle, you practically melted into his arms.
Two years was far too long, but now you were back with your love, and you had all the time in the world.

You called
Prompt: “You came.” - “You called.” Pairing: Harry Hart x Reader Fandom: Kingsman Warnings: Angst, mentions of blood and injuries, honeypot mission Word count: 1511
Tumblr media
‘Galahad.’ It was barely a whisper which came out of your mouth. The predicament you were in wasn’t as you had planned. The mission in and of itself was relatively simple: go to an event, talk to some high ranking people and criminals in order to gather information, and leave. Yet, here you were sitting on the floor in an alley, bleeding from a gunshot wound.
It had been going quite well. Your target, Vincent Giante, had been at the event early and you had approached carefully but confidently. Merlin had informed you that he was, in fact, a ladies-man, and that it could be of use to, as he said, “throw your womanly charms at him”. You ended up following that advice after the target had shown interest in you, most likely due to the rather revealing emerald-green dress you were wearing. ‘My, my, a lovely young lady at an event such as this one, alone and seemingly without a date.’ Vincent had said to you as he approached. It sounded vulgar as he said it, as if she were a piece of meat, an object which he was intent on owning. That would never happen in a million years if you had any say in it. You did, however, have to play into it. ‘Why thank you, I’m flattered.’ You say as he grabs your hand and leans down to kiss it, his touch lingering a tad too long for your liking. ‘So what’s your name darling?’ ‘Josephine.’ Was what you answered as you heard Merlin in your ear. Target on lock. Vincent made small-talk with you for a bit before the two of you were approached by a man. ‘Sorry, boss, that I have to interrupt your conversation with this lovely lady.’ He leans in and whispers something to his boss which you’re unable to hear. That’s Vincent’s right-hand man, Giovanni. Be careful around him, he can be quite the fighter. Merlin informs you before the pair can shift their focus back to you. ‘Sorry love, I have to go meet with some people.’ He sounded genuinely disappointed. He leans in to kiss your cheek and whispers in your ear. ‘If you’re feeling up for it, meet me outside in an hour.’
Time passed slowly as you waited to meet up with Vincent. You were in fact, not feeling up to it, but it was too good of a chance to pass up. During that time, you mingled with some more of the guests, but were unable to gather any information that was particularly of note. Merlin, on the other hand, was able to gather the information that Vincent supposedly had a harddrive with him which contained some secret documents which the Kingsman could use to folly his organisation’s plans. As the agreed upon time approaches, Merlin fills you in about the surroundings and what to look out for. Supposedly, Giante would have the drive somewhere on this person, so the goal had shifted from gaining information to getting the harddrive without being caught.
Outside, it was quiet, the hustle and bustle of the event left behind. Vincent stood near a statue in the gardens, seemingly alone, yet you knew better. It was likely that multiple of his men would be surrounding the two of you, looking out for his well-being. ‘Josephine, I’m glad you came.’ He smiles and puts his hand on your shoulder. ‘Let us walk for a bit, I’ve been inside all day.’ You take the arm which was offered to you and join him.  After ten minutes you reach a part of the gardens which seemed completely isolated. Slowly, he tries getting closer, putting his hand on your lower back as he whispers things in your ear. You endure them, finding them disgusting but pretending to love the attention. Slowly, he starts kissing your neck and eventually mouth. If it weren’t for your training and experience, you probably would’ve gagged as his hands slowly started lowering further. Finding your focus again, you shifted it to trying to find the harddrive on him, roaming your hands over his body. Eventually, you feel it in one of his pockets, and slowly but surely, you try to get it out. As he starts getting more passionate you manage to grab hold of it. Slowly, you slip it into one of your hidden pockets. After a few more minutes you pull back and look him in the eye, smiling kindly. ‘We should take this elsewhere.’ Taking his hand, you lead him back to where the event was taking place. He seemed quite content for the time being, but you weren’t too convinced. Well done agent Kay, get out of there.
Vincent leads you back inside to a relatively quiet corner, stopping a moment to talk to one of his men. As you look around, you suddenly hear a click just behind you. ‘Now love, I had so much fun, but I’d prefer it if you handed back that harddrive.’ Vincent sticks out his hand while the man behind you slowly pushes the gun against the back of your head. ‘We can talk about this Vincent.’ You slowly walk up to him. Agent Kay what are you doing? Get out. Merlin almost screams in your ear as you try to remain as possible. You slowly put your hands up, ‘I was enjoying myself quite a bit, but I suppose that is now over?’ your voice is almost sickly sweet. The hand he was holding out slowly wraps around your chin, tilting it up. ‘It’d be a pity to lose this pretty face.’ You were stalling quite a bit, that was clear.
Kay, Galahad is on his way. Just get out of this venue.
Galahad, that was your sign. Your colleague was on the way and you only had to get out of the building. Leaning into his touch, he clearly gets distracted once again, just enough to pull out a small knife and throw it backwards into the man that was pointing a gun at you. Turning, you grab hold of the lead and break the man’s fingers, then shooting him with his own gun, followed by shooting Vincent in the head. ‘A shame really.’ You scoff before turning and running into the crowd, 8 men following you, their guns loaded. Every step felt hot, so very hot, and they were right on your heels. ‘Fuck’, a soft whisper escaping you as they start firing their guns.
Kay, I need you to confirm that you are on the way out. ‘Confirm Merlin, I just have to lose some people.’ Heels continue to click where-ever you go. After turning a corner in one of the many hallways, several more of the men following you go down as you disarm and shoot them. That is until you didn’t have any ammo left. Of course this would happen to you, as if your day wasn’t going terribly already. ‘At least I still have these ones.’ You throw a few knives, hitting several throats. Their blood covers your face. Around you several bodies lay and you are finally able to breathe, even if it’s just for a moment. ‘Galahad, do you copy?’ You say quietly as you continue walking through the maze of hallways. Several footsteps can be heard from several of the hallways around you, so you start running once again.
‘Merlin, where is Galahad?’
You don’t get a response.
Managing to finally get outside, heading into a dimly lit alleyway, you see over a dozen people following you. Pulling out your own gun, you shoot as many of them as possible while continuing to move. They shoot back, one hitting you in the leg.
‘Fuck.’
They seem to keep on coming, and slowly, they surround you. ‘Galahad do you copy?’ Bodies keep on falling, but time seems to be running out when another bullet hits you, this time in your left shoulder. Frustrated, you throw some more knives and grab one of your daggers. One by one they go down, and with every body that hits the ground, your green dress becomes more red and your limbs are covered in blood. As the last of your energy slowly leaves your body and you start feeling faint.
‘Galahad.’
It was barely a whisper which left your mouth. Before you are able to say anything else, you feel a gun being put against your temple. ‘Calm down lady, drop the knife.’ There was only one man left standing and he had the obvious advantage. You sigh, letting the weapon fall to the ground.
You had to find a way out of this situation, you always did, but your body seems to be done. A gunshot interrupts your train of thought, the gun which was held against your head, falling away. Turning, you see Galahad standing there.
‘You came.’
Your voice sounds exhausted as you stand there; shoulders slumped and body aching. Your colleague approaches and hugs your body tightly.
‘You called.’
He whispers in your ear before kissing the side of your head.

dead and gone and buried
Tumblr media
a/n: i'm deep in my gwaine brain rot right now so have a cute/angsty lil fic summary: Y/N looses someone she loves and leans on Gwaine in the darkest hours.
The early spring mornings were one of the highlights of Y/N’s day. As she meandered through the corridors of the castle, she caught glimpses of the morning sun slowly rising, bathing the white stone walls in orange.
Each sunrise brought with it a new day and a fresh start.
It also brought along one knight and a large plate of breakfast.
"What is it today, Sir Gwaine?" Y/N asked, walking down the corridor and toward Gwaine.
Gwaine was half dressed, cloak draped and folded over one shoulder, chain mail roughly tucked into his belt. He held a large plate in one hand, gloves in the other.
"I believe it is pork with leftovers from last night," he replied, coming to a stop beside Y/N. "There's some apple, some... I think potatoes?"
Y/N peered at the plate. She nodded. "Potatoes."
She reached out and snatched one off the plate, dodging Gwaine's pitiful attempt at slapping her hand with his gloves.
"Have you not got things to be doing?" He asked, shielding his plate from her.
"Oh, I have a lengthy list," she replied, "but I would much rather be taunting you than helping people get dressed."
Gwaine chuckled. He tossed his head back, letting his hair fall out of his face. "I should probably go and get ready."
Y/N nodded, gently sweeping her foot across the floor. "Do you need a hand?" She asked, looking up at him.
"Uh..." Gwaine looked at himself, taking in his mismatched state of dress. "Please," he replied, his smile growing.
Gwaine leant across Y/N and placed his plate of breakfast down on the window sill. She pulled his cloak from his shoulder and took his gloves.
Y/N held Gwaine's clothes as he untangled his chain mail from his belt and awkwardly dragged it down over his head. She watched, angling her eyes down when Gwaine looked up, flicking his hair out from under the shirt.
He reached out and took his cape from her, his fingers brushing against the back of her hand. In one, rather dramatic, swoop, he put the cape around his shoulders and pulled the buckle tight, letting the cape settle around his shoulders.
With a smile, Y/N slapped the gloves into Gwaine's hands. "Good morrow, Sir Knight."
Gwaine bowed to her, sweeping his cloak out behind him. "Good morrow, Lady Y/N."
Y/N giggled. "You better get going unless you want our wonderful king to yell at you."
"He yells at me all the time," Gwaine replied, pulling his gloves on. "It'll be nothing new."
He leant across and pressed a kiss to Y/N's cheek. Gwaine stepped back and nodded at her, turning on his heel and walking down the corridor.
Y/N shook her head, a fond smile on her face, and began walking the opposite direction.
//
"Gwaine, if you spent more time watching your opponent, you'd spend less time on the floor." Arthur yelled, stabbing his sword into the grass.
Y/N laughed softly as she walked past. Gwaine was, indeed, lying sprawled on the grass, his sword flung miles away. He rolled over onto his stomach, his eyes catching on Y/N as she passed. She waved to him and he awkwardly waved back to her.
When she got a chance, Y/N always went for a walk down past the training ground. Partly so she could watch Gwaine try and partly because she could breathe in the fresh air and stroll amongst the upper town.
There was only so much pretentious behaviour Y/N could take from those in the castle before she lost her mind.
"Lady Y/N?"
Y/N turned her head, coming face to face with a flush-faced, out-of-breath messenger.
She nodded. Y/N patiently waited as the messenger fiddled with this bag, struggling to find the piece of parchment he was meant to give her.
Eventually he found it, whipping it out the bag with a flourish. He handed it to Y/N and, before she could even unfolded it, ran off back into the upper town, dodging through the crowds.
The wax seal popped off easily. Y/N unfolded the letter, all ready knowing what it would say.
She'd been waiting for this letter for months. Ever since her father had retired from his role as secretary of state because of his declining health, she'd been waiting for the letter that summoned her home to be at his death bed.
'It's time to come home.'
There it was, written in black ink and folded into a square.
"You alright?"
Y/N jumped, dropping the letter and stumbling back over a tiny pebble on the ground. Gwaine, who'd made her jump in the first place, caught her by the waist and stabled her, setting her back on her own two feet.
"Sorry," he said, wincing. "I thought you'd heard me."
"No, I hadn't," Y/N breathed, still recovering. "I was -"
"Reading?" Gwaine held out her letter to her. "Is it your father?" He asked as she took it, clutching the letter to her chest.
Y/N had confided in Gwaine about her father's health long ago. He'd been the one to watch out for him during council meetings, escorting him back to his chambers when he'd been to unwell to stay any longer.
Gwaine had been a silent supporter for Y/N as she tried to cope with her father and her job in the castle. When her father had retired and returned back to their home village, Gwaine had held her hand as she watched him disappear through the gates.
So it was with no surprise that Y/N turned to her best friend and said "yes... he most likely won't survive the week."
Gwaine took a step closer, reaching down and gently grabbing Y/N's hand, cradling it in his.
"When are you going?" He asked, lowering his voice as a group of knights passed by, laughing loudly.
Y/N shrugged. The wind picked up, blowing her hair in front of her eyes and she brushed it back, ignoring the headdress she'd pinned to her hair.
Gwaine reached up with his other hand and caught her hand. He brushed her hair back, untangling it from the headdress. His hand lowered, brushing against her cheek before returning to his side.
"It's an hour or two away," Y/N said softly, "so either before nightfall or first thing tomorrow morning."
"I'll come with you."
"No, Gwaine, I can't ask you to do that -"
Gwaine cut her off, putting a hand to her cheek. "I offered. I don't want you to be alone, that's all."
Y/N nodded, swallowing back the tears building in her eyes. "Thank you," she whispered.
//
Atheyers was quiet as they rode into the town. The townsfolk had begun lighting lanterns and shutting windows, settling down for the night.
Gwaine helped Y/N down from her horse and, hand in hand, they walked up to the big, wooden timbered house, that was Y/N's family home.
Inside the atmosphere was sombre and almost stifling with grief. For a moment, Y/N thought she was too late. But then she saw her brother rush down the stairs and her panic eased slightly.
"You're just in time," Isaac whispered, embracing his sister tightly. "Come on." He turned, looking at Gwaine. "You too, Sir Gwaine."
The room was quiet, lit candles providing warmth and a calming light.
Y/N walked in, hiding behind her brother for a second. She peered round and saw her father lying in bed, looking pale and fragile.
"Y/N's here, father," her brother whispered.
Y/N glanced behind, searching for Gwaine's reassuring gaze. He stood in the shadows, quietly watching. When he caught her gaze, he nodded and gave her a reassuring smile.
She stepped forward and crouched down beside the bed. "I'm here, father," she said softly, taking his hand in hers. "You can rest now."
//
Bird song greeted Gwaine the next morning. He'd fallen asleep in a chair that sat outside the bedroom, against the wall of the corridor. He stretched as he stood up, rubbing his face.
The door creaked slightly as he pushed it open, peering inside. Y/N was asleep beside her father, still curled on the floor, her head resting on the mattress, arm folded under her head.
Gwaine knew that her father had passed. There was a new, peaceful silence in the room broken only by the birds tweeting outside.
He approached Y/N and knelt down beside her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Y/N," he whispered, shaking her gently. "Hey..."
Y/N lifted her head, looking up at Gwaine. "He's gone."
"I know. I'm sorry," he whispered, stroking her hair.
Y/N sat back, leaning against Gwaine's chest. He shifted, kneeling behind her, pulling her into his lap.
They sat there for a moment. Y/N held Gwaine's hand tightly and closed her eyes.
//
They gathered on the shore of Lake Riveia, watching the boat containing the body of Y/N's father burn.
Y/N stood at the edge of the shore, her brother next to her. Dressed in black, she looked like a shadow in the afternoon sunlight.
Gwaine stood with the other knights, capes blowing in the breeze, heads bowed. Arthur stood along side them - not as a king but as a knight himself.
After a while, those gathered began to walk back to the castle, until Y/N and Gwaine were all who remained.
"How are you?" Gwaine asked, coming to stand by Y/N's sad, his shoulder brushing against her.
"Coping," she whispered, her eyes still fixed on the burning boat in the distance. After a moments pause, she turned to face Gwaine. "Thank you for being here."
Gwaine raised his eyebrows, slightly surprised. "Of course," he replied. "I wouldn't be anywhere else."
"I know but... I'm grateful for the fact you even stayed to check on me," Y/N replied, chuckling sadly. "Not many do."
"Not many love you like I do."
Y/N smiled, looking down at the ground. Gwaine reached over and placed his finger under her chin, gently guiding her head up until she was looking at him.
"I love you, Y/N," he said softly, tucking her hair behind her ear. He rested his hand against her cheek and Y/N leant into it. "I love you with so much of my heart, none is left to protest."
"That's good," Y/N said, giggling quietly. "I don't think I could cope with you denying your feelings." She paused, pressing her lips together. "I think I do enough for both of us."
Gwaine gently turned Y/N by her shoulders until she faced him. She looked up, staring into his eyes, suddenly remembering just how beautiful his brown eyes were.
Slowly, Y/N leant forward, her eyes closing. Gwaine pressed his lips to hers, his hands resting on her hips. Y/N raised her arms, threading her fingers through his hair, untangling the curls.
They pulled apart, resting their foreheads together.
"I finally have my own knight," Y/N whispered, shoulders shaking as she giggled.
"And I my lady," Gwaine replied, pressing another kiss to her lips. "Forever and always."
Y/N stepped closer and kissed Gwaine again, holding him as tightly as she could.

What Merlin would be like in bed...
Tumblr media
Merlin gives off quite a dorky, silly, somewhat doesn't know what's going on vibe however in the bedroom, he's a completely different person.
As soon as the bedroom door shuts, he transforms into a different person.
He's confident, cocky and he loves to tease.
He absolutely uses his magic to trail what feels like electricity over your skin as his mouth works you close to the edge.
Merlin loves the way you moan and mewl for him. He loves how loud he can make you get, loves to pull screams from you. He adores the noises you make. He loves knowing that he's the one who makes you feel that good; makes him rock hard.
Although confident in his sex skills, he's always willing and eager to learn. He loves for you to teach him, to be submissive to him and for you to tell him exactly what to do. He hates taking orders from anyone but he'll happily take orders from you.
He loves to kiss. Merlin loves just kissing you, it's so simple and yet a deep kiss will have him hard and ready for you.
He loves going down on you, loves the taste of you and he loves using his magic to overstimulate you; he loves when you're a moaning, mewling mess beneath him.
He can be very sweet in bed, very slow and passionate but most of the time, Merlin likes a little bit of trouble. He likes to tease you, likes you needy. He loves to show off with his magic, making you orgasm with it before he even uses his mouth.
He usually ends up late to meet Arthur because he's too busy in bed with you.
Arthur teases him about you, Arthur tries to give him sex lessons because he thinks the poor boy is helpless. Merlin thanks him for the advice and hides a laugh behind his hand. He doesn't need any advice, he knows how to please you and he knows how to do it well.
He even goes so far sometimes to pleasure you in public... Using his magic from across the room to give you a little zap of electricity across your skin to make you shiver and stammer in your seat. He hides his satisfied smile with a cough as your cheeks turn red and you glare at him across the table.
Merlin enjoys that people don't think he's much because all he cares about is you and your opinion, he likes being able to surprise you; always pleasuring you and teasing you. He likes that only you get to see that side of him.
Aftercare with Merlin includes curling up beside him, flushed and sweaty, all smiles and giggles as he presses a kiss to your shoulder, your knuckles, your nose, your cheeks and then finally your lips before you mumble a soft 'I love you' to the other. He loves falling asleep like that with you, tangled and happy.

The king smiles from the courtyard steps, ready to greet his queen, but when the party, or what remains of it, comes into view, his expression darkens in an instant. The party is but a fragment of what had left days ago.
He rushes down the steps, taking two at a time, to meet his love, helping her dismount. She falls into his arms.
“We were attacked by bandits,” She says, her voice wavering with emotion. “They took (Y/N),”
Gwen sobs into Arthur’s shoulder, before pulling back.
“You have to save her, Arthur, we have to help her,” Tears fall down her cheeks. “She’s my friend,”
“We will, Guinevere,” He rests his finger under her chin, gently lifting her face so her gaze meets his. “I promise you, we will bring her home,”
He looks behind his queen, meeting the gaze of his most senior knight. Gently asking Gwen to go inside, he gestures for Sir Leon to approach.
“The others have just finished training,” The king says. “They should still be in the armoury. Tell them to gear up, we’re heading out,”
“Right away, sire,”
~
Sir Leon rushes to the armoury at his king’s command, where he does indeed find the other knights of the inner circle packing up their gear. Sirs Gwaine, Percival and Elyan’s conversation ceases as they look up upon hearing his approach.
“There’s no time for rest, gear up and be ready to head out within the half hour,” Sir Leon says.
“What’s happened?” Sir Elyan steps forward. “Is it Gwen?”
“No, she’s made it back safely, but we were attacked by bandits. They took (Y/N),”
“What?” Gwaine pushes past Elyan, coming face to face with Leon. “How did this happen? Why didn’t you save her?” His voice rises, wide eyes searching Leon’s.
“I couldn’t save both (Y/N) and the queen,” Leon replies.
“You could have,” Gwaine growls, grasping Leon by the collar. “If you really cared, you would have found a way,”
“It is not a question of caring, Gwaine. We were outnumbered. My first duty was to my queen,”
“I should have been there,” Gwaine shakes Leon. “I should have been the one to go. Her worth should not have been thought as lesser, she should not have been sacrificed,”
“That’s not how it was,” Leon starts, but Gwaine raises a fist, his lips pulled back in a snarl.
“Stop!” Percival’s voice booms as his hands pull the two knights apart. “The longer we spend arguing, the further (Y/N) slips from our reach,” He looks between his two friends. “Put the accusations aside, Gwaine, and get ready to head out,”
Gwaine looks to Percival for a moment, before giving a curt nod. Percival releases Gwaine from his grip and heads to the armour rack. Gwaine shoots Leon a glare before doing the same.
“We’ll bring her home,” Elyan places a hand on Gwaine’s shoulder, giving a reassuring squeeze.
~
You’re jolted awake by a sharp poke to the ribs, and ordered to get up and eat some breakfast, as the camp is being packed up, ready to move on.
You and the men move out on foot except for the bandit leader, who rides one of the horses, the others being used to carry supplies and loot.
You walk all day, your mind in a daze, as if you’re phasing in and out of existence, the pain in your feet the only thing dragging you back to reality. You catch part of a conversation two of the men are having, overhearing them mention that the party has now crossed the border into Odin’s kingdom. Any small hope you have carried of being saved leaves you. No matter how pure King Arthur’s heart, it would be foolish to risk crossing the border to save an employee.
Any thoughts of rescue now banished from your mind, you wonder what’s in store for you. The only hope you cling to now is that you will be purchased for a lady, perhaps to be a maidservant. That mightn’t be so bad, if she isn’t cruel to you.
When the sun is low in the sky, the bandits make camp again. The night is much the same as the last, with the occasional jeers and gestures from the men, but they stay true to their leader’s wishes: they do not touch you. In fact, they keep their distance, as if an invisible barrier surrounds you. But any feeling of safety that might bring is overshadowed by the uncertainty of your future. When you go to bed, your broken sleep is accompanied by restless dreams fuelled by your fear.
~
Already awake when the men rise for the day, a sharp poke isn’t needed to rouse you this time. You get up and have breakfast, returning your bowl to the pile once you’ve finished eating. When you turn around, you notice figures emerge from the trees. Your first thought being that they are more bandits, perhaps ones from a different clan, you back away and head for the horses, crouching beside them.
“Merlin, get (Y/N) to safety!”
You whirl around at the mention of your name and find King Arthur of Camelot, dressed very unlike himself, in a blue tunic and brown leather vest. The blue tunic which you made.
Within moments, Merlin is at your side.
“Are you hurt?” He asks, his eyes searching you frantically.
You shake your head and take his arm when he offers it, letting him help you to stand. Once you’re steady, you glance up, eyes widening as you spot two bandits heading straight for you. Merlin turns, following your gaze, before murmuring in your ear.
“Run for the trees,”
You do as he says, finding a particularly wide tree to hide behind, when you hear a shout. Peering around the bough, you spot the two bandits, now flat on their backs by the campfire, clothing aflame, and Merlin, sprinting your way. He takes your hand and guides you away from the camp and behind another tree.
“Stay here, out of sight,” He pants.
“Please don’t leave me,”
“I need to help back there. Stay here and you’ll be safe,”
You nod reluctantly and Merlin runs back the way he came.
You pull your knees against your chest so your form remains as small as possible, the tree’s uneven surface pressing into your back. You attempt to steady your breathing, which proves difficult with the sounds of battle thumping in your ears. You hate not knowing what’s going on, which side is besting the other, so you lean out slightly to take a peek.
Your eyes scan the camp-turned-battlefield, spotting Sir Leon, Sir Elyan and Sir Percival. You continue, noticing a bandit not engaged, his gait stealthy, as he approaches a knight clashing with another bandit.
“Gwaine!” You shout as loud as you can.
Sir Gwaine’s gaze leaves his opponent and finds you, pointing to his yet unseen attacker. Gwaine whirls around and raises his sword just in time to block the incoming blow before thrusting his blade into the stealthy bandit’s chest. Pulling the blade free, he spins around, continuing his battle with his original opponent.
You exhale with relief, the thought of what might have happened unbearable, and return to your position behind the tree, meaning to keep watch in case of another dishonourable attack, when a lumbering figure comes into view. The bandit leader’s hulking form limps toward you, his face set in a scowl. He brings his fingers to his mouth, whistling loudly. The sound of pounding hooves approaches, a horse coming into view, stopping some feet away from the bandit leader, waiting for its master. The bandit reaches for you, yanking your arm so hard that you fall to your knees.
“Let her go!”
You hear a shout from the camp and look up to see King Arthur, a crossbow trained on your attacker. The bandit’s large hand still grasping your arm, he pulls you up, snaking his arm around your neck, your back pressed against him. He takes small steps towards his horse, your feet dragging with him, as he uses you as a human shield.
“If you put her on that horse, you’re a dead man,” The king shouts from his position, edging closer.
Your captor stops in his tracks. You feel him moving behind you, his other arm fumbling for something.
“And if I let the woman go, you’ll allow me to walk free?” The bandit bellows from behind your head, making your ears ring.
“That’s right,” The king says.
Gwaine steps up beside Arthur, speaking quietly in the king’s ear. The king responds in the same inaudible tone.
“If you’re planning to trick me, the wench dies,”
Your stomach drops. “Please don’t kill me,” You beg. “That is King Arthur Pendragon. He is an honourable man. He will keep his word,”
He grunts, before shouting to the camp again. “I let her go, and I get on my horse and ride away,”
“That’s right,” The king replies.
The bandit removes his arm from around your neck, bringing a moment of relief, until you feel a pull against your scalp as he tugs on your braided hair.
“I won’t be left with nothing,” He murmurs in your ear.
Your head lurches forward as the pressure on your scalp suddenly dissipates. While at first you think he’s simply let go of you, your head feels unusually light. Horror dawns on you as you reach a hand around the back of your head, feeling the hacked ends of your hair. You turn to your captor, spotting the glint of a knife as he returns it to his belt, and in the other hand, a bundle of hair, your hair. A guttural scream escapes you as your knees buckle. The bandit mounts his horse and urges it to run, just as a crossbow bolt buries into his leg. He cries out but the horse keeps its pace and is soon out of view.
Merlin rushes forward, skidding along the ground to kneel beside you.
“I’m so sorry. I lost sight of him,”
You glance up at the sound of crunching leaves, spotting Gwaine jogging toward you, crossbow in hand. You hastily pull up the hood of your cloak as he crouches down in front of you.
“Are you hurt?”
His eyes flit about, searching you all over. You want to curl up and hide under your cloak, but since you cannot, you simply shake your head. He stands and extends an arm to you. You reach up to take it and he helps you to stand, staying by your side as he leads you through the camp, Merlin following behind, when you spot the stolen saddlebags.
“Those are the silks we got from the market,” You say. “They stole them too,”
Gwaine shoots a look at Merlin, who steps forward and picks up the bags, swinging them over his shoulders.
You make it to the horses and Gwaine takes you to his, positioning himself to give you a leg-up.
“Gwaine,” The king calls out. “(Y/N) can ride with Merlin. I need you to be ready to fight if the need arises. Who knows if those bandits have more friends hiding in the woods,”
Gwaine frowns and takes you to a different horse, where Merlin is checking over the tack.
“You hear that, Merlin?” Gwaine asks his friend.
Merlin nods. “I’ll look after her,”
Gwaine gives you a pained look before returning to his own horse. Merlin helps you to mount his before climbing on himself. You hold onto the back of his jacket as the party starts to ride, your head resting against his back as fatigue washes over you.
~
When the sky darkens, the party stops to make camp. You sit upon the fallen leaves on the ground as Merlin builds a fire and prepares a meal, while the knights tend to their horses.
You stare into the flickering flames, just as you did the last two nights with the bandit camp. You should feel relief at being rescued, to be away from those foul men, but you seem to have no feelings at all.
“Here,” You’re jolted from your stupor by Gwaine passing you a bowl of stew. “First serve from the pot,”
You take the stew and allow its scent to fill your nostrils. It seems Merlin is a better cook than the bandits. Gwaine gets a serve for himself and sits next to you as you slip the spoon into your mouth, the stew slightly too hot against your tongue.
“The bandits,” Gwaine says quietly from beside you. “Did they give you anything to eat? I can get you a bigger helping,”
You swallow your mouthful and clear your throat. “They fed me,”
Gwaine nods, taking the first spoonful from his own bowl. You continue eating, noticing from the corner of your eye that Gwaine keeps glancing your way. You wish he wouldn’t, and consider turning away. For the past couple of days, you’ve been watched at all times, even when you needed to answer a call of nature, you were escorted and watched, your skirt offering the only privacy. It matters not that you are now watched out of care and concern. You wish more than anything that you couldn’t be seen.
You finish your stew and place the bowl beside you.
“I’m tired,” You say as you stand.
“I’ll fetch you a bedroll,” Gwaine says as he gets up as well.
You stay standing by the fire as he does so. You don’t expect to get much sleep, but feel that if you are believed to be sleeping, then people will stop looking at you, questions and pity in their eyes.
Gwaine returns with a bedroll and offers to set it up for you, but you decline and take it from him, finding a spot between the horses and a tree. There won’t be room for anyone to set up a bedroll next to yours, which is what you want.
~
The party sets out the next morning, you riding with Merlin again. After a few hours on the road, the party arrives back in Camelot. Once you’ve reached the citadel’s courtyard, the horses slow and come to a stop. Merlin dismounts before helping you to do so. You hear your name called out and look up to find Gwen running toward you. She embraces you, holding you tight as her head rests on your shoulder.
“I’m so sorry, (Y/N), I’m so sorry,”
While you’re startled at first, you sink into her embrace, wrapping your own arms around her. After a few moments, she pulls back.
“We must have Gaius check over you,”
While all you want to do right now is disappear in your chambers, the look in Gwen’s eyes makes you give in. She threads her arm through yours and leads you into the castle. You turn your head at the sound of rushed footsteps behind to see Merlin and Gwaine following.
Once you reach Gaius’ chamber’s, he beckons you inside and leads you to sit on the edge of his bed.
“Did the bandits hurt you in any way?” He asks, his voice gentle.
You shake your head. Hearing a shuffle from your left, you look over to see Gwaine and Merlin standing nearby, watching you. Gaius follows your gaze and sighs quietly.
“Gwaine, Merlin, please give us some privacy,”
You glance at them guiltily, but are relieved when they do as Gaius says, closing the door behind them.
“Do you want me to go?” Gwen asks from beside you. “I won’t be offended,”
“No,” You reach for her hand. “Please, stay,”
She gives your hand a gentle squeeze in response.
“Now that you don’t have an audience, I shall ask again: were you hurt in any way?” Gaius asks.
You swallow. “No… their leader told his men,” You cough to clear your throat, which has begun to swell, impairing your voice. “He told them not to touch me because… I’d be worth more unspoiled,”
Your voice breaks on the last syllable. Gwen puts her arm around you, holding you close.
“Worth more?” Gaius says. “Do you mean to say they were intending to sell you into slavery?”
You nod shakily. “He said that every part of me was worth something. I suppose that’s why, before he escaped, he did this,”
You pull down your hood, revealing your hacked hair. Gwen gasps, bringing a hand to her mouth in shock.
“I am sorry this has happened to you,” Gaius says. “The only consolation I can give is that your hair will grow back in time,”
“How much time? How can I be seen like this?”
Gwen leans her head against yours. “We’ll work something out together,”
Gaius walks over to a shelf and plucks a small bottle from it, which he brings back and offers to you.
“A tincture to help you sleep. Take three drops when you go to bed. All I can prescribe is rest,” He looks to Gwen. “Please take (Y/N) to her chambers,”
Gwen nods and helps you to stand, before leading you out the door. Gwaine and Merlin are standing outside in the corridor. You turn your face away to hide the evidence of any emotion as you pass by them.
When you arrive in your chambers, you notice two neat piles of cloth have been placed on your worktable – the fabrics from the market. Apart from that, your chambers look just as they did when you left them, but you don’t feel comfortable as you should in your home.
“I can’t rest,” You say. “I feel… dirty… and I can still feel where that man’s arm was, as if he is still restraining me,”
Gwen gives you a sympathetic look. “Do you have a tub?” She asks.
You nod. “It’s in the bedroom,”
Gwen enters your room and returns a few moments later, rolling the round bathtub along the floor, before setting it down in front of the fire. Looking about the room, she spots the large pail of water in the corner and finds two pots, which she takes to the pail and fills, returning them to the fireplace.
“If you can get a fire going and start heating the water, I’ll have some more fetched for you,” Gwen says.
“You needn’t go to the trouble,”
“Please,” Gwen says firmly. “Let me do this,”
She strides across the room and opens the door, looking back at you before she leaves. “Don’t forget the fire,”
You nod and turn your attention to the grate, where you begin to assemble firewood and kindling.
By the time Gwen returns, the pots of water are hanging above the fire, beginning to simmer.
“Some servants will be by soon to bring the water,” She says. “How about you go up to your room and get undressed?”
You do as she says and enter your room, finally removing your cloak and stripping down to just your shift, before heading over to the basin stand. You hold your breath as you peer into the mirror to see your reflection for the first time in days. The hacked ends of your hair are uneven, wisps of longer hairs poking out between the shorter parts.
You hear Gwen’s voice as she presumably lets the servants inside, since you hear the sounds of several footsteps and splashing water. After the noise dies down, there’s a knock at your bedchamber door.
“The servants just left,” Gwen says. “Everything is ready for you,”
You descend from your room to find the bathtub full of steaming water and your dressing screen positioned next to it for privacy.
“Thank you so much, Gwen,” You dip a finger into the water. “It feels wrong to have the queen doing this for me,”
“Do not think of me as the queen,” Gwen replies. “But as your friend who wants to help you in any way she can,”
You smile, hoping she understands how much all this means to you in a time you cannot express it in words. Stepping behind the screen, you remove your shift and step into the bath, lowering your body into the water until just your head and neck remain unsubmerged. To your left you find your small table with soaps set atop it. You wash yourself, each stroke cleansing away some of unpleasantness of the last few days, making you feel a little more like yourself. You wash your face and lastly your hair.
You sigh. “What am I going to do about my hair? I can’t have anyone see me like this,”
“You could wrap it, or wear a cap or veil?” Gwen suggests from the other side of the screen.
“I suppose those are my options now. I’ll put something together tomorrow,”
“Would you like me to tidy it up, at least? So when it grows, it will be even?” Gwen offers.
“Yes, thank you Gwen. My scissors are on my workbench by the window, and I have a hairbrush in my room beside the basin,”
You hear a chair scrape back as Gwen goes to retrieve them.
“May I come in?” She asks when she returns.
“You may,”
Gwen steps around the screen and into view, scissors and brush in one hand and chair in the other. She places the chair behind you and sits down, beginning to brush your hair gently. You close your eyes, relaxing at her delicate touch, the gentlest you’ve been handled in days.
“I’m going to begin cutting, just taking off enough so that it’s nice and even, alright?”
“Go ahead,”
Gwen’s fingers brush against your neck as she takes the first section of hair and you hear the scissors snip, the cold metal gliding against your warm skin. She brushes through your hair again and snips a couple more times.
“There,” Gwen says, placing the scissors down on the small table.
You jolt at the sound of knocking at your chamber door.
“That’s probably Gwaine come to check on you,” Gwen says, standing up. “Shall I tell him to come back later?”
“No, tell him I’m resting,”
Gwen nods and disappears behind the screen. You hear her footsteps reach the door and it unlatching. You listen to murmured words, but can’t make them out, however you do recognise the visitor’s voice as Gwaine’s. A pang shoots through your heart, thinking of how if it were another time, where none of these terrible things happened, you’d be overjoyed to see him.
Gwen returns, standing at the edge of the screen.
“It was Gwaine. He wanted to know how you were doing and asked if he could see you. I told him you were resting, like you said,”
You hang your head. “I just can’t bear to see him again today,”
“You don’t need to explain yourself to me,” Gwen says gently.
“The water’s starting to get cold,” You say. “I suppose I should get out,”
Gwen removes the towel that’s hanging on the dressing screen and brings it beside the bath, spreading it out to give you privacy. You stand, water drops streaming down your skin, and step out of the bath. Gwen drapes the towel over you and steps behind the screen again. You dry yourself and head to your room, where a clean shift and robe are waiting for you, and you put them on. When you step back in the main chamber, Gwen is standing by the dining table, a plate of food in front of her.
“I had a meal brought up from the palace kitchens. I was going to whip something up but you don’t have much in,”
“Gwen,” You stride toward her, pulling her into an embrace. “I don’t know how I can ever properly thank you for your kindness. It means more to me than words can describe,”
“Don’t worry about that,” Gwen smiles. “It’s what friends do,”
She gestures for you to sit. When you do, she places cutlery next to your plate.
“Now, eat and get some rest,”
Gwen bids you good day and leaves your chambers. You finish your meal and following her instruction, return to your bedroom, draw the curtain and climb into bed.

ᴹᵃˢᵗᵉʳˡᶤˢᵗ
⭑ He noticed you whilst visiting his subjects in the local village. Arthur didn’t want to rule like his uncle Vortigern. No fear or intimidation towards his people - which was weird to think he had people.
⭑ Arthur wanted his people to know that they could rely on him. He was their King, and that meant not turning a blind eye.
⭑ So on his second outing after his coronation - he saw you. Thinking you were some sort of supernatural creature that had somehow appeared in front of him. He couldn’t take his eyes from you.
⭑ He’ll do the secret admirer thing where he leaves gifts for you; mostly flowers, sometimes jewelry or perfume.
⭑ He doesn’t want anyone to know; he’d be teased relentlessly by his men - especially Goosefat Bill.
⭑ You had no clue who your admirer could be, absolutely none. It wasn’t a common occurance either - this was your first time receiving such attention.
⭑ Arthur noticed your likes and dislikes, and one day he felt the need to introduce himself.
⭑ He conveniently left out the King part, and you were taken aback. He was so handsome, so charming. Why would he need to hide behind a letter?
⭑ You were completely enamored by him; the way he spoke, when he moved the hair from his face, even the way he stood.
⭑ But it seemed to him like you were uninterested when all you were was shocked. So when he asked you to accompany him on a ride, you were silent.
⭑ And it took a few seconds before the information was processed. Arthur’s heart had never pumped so quickly inside his chest.
⭑ “Oh-I... yes, I would love to,” you blushed.
With those words, it seemed like he was the ... king of the world.

-
As you looked out over the valley, you sighed "Well, either we missed them already, or we're ahead of them."
Gwaine stood beside you as he looked around. "We can't wait around for them, we should just continue on our way. We'll meet back at Camelot either way."
Nodding, you turned and looked ahead into the heavy wooded area "I really wish we hadn't lost our horses."
Gwaine nodded as he began to walk ahead "But at least we still have our legs."
You let out a soft scoff, "Might not by the time we make it back to Camelot."
Gwaine smiled as he looked back at you for a moment. He had been dying for a few moments to be alone with you, and now that you had gotten split off from the group, he had more time than he expected.
It felt like almost too much time, as Gwaine felt an uncommon anxiousness in his gut. It was not common that someone made him nervous, but you most certainly did.
"We could talk, to make the time go by faster." Gwaine suggested, as he stopped to wait for you to catch up to him.
"Talk about what?"
He shrugged lightly. "Tell me about yourself."
You let out a soft laugh that made his heart flutter. "We've known each other for months now Gwaine."
He grinned. "True, but that does not mean I know everything about you. I only know the basics, tell me more."
You opened your mouth before you shook your head with an uncertain laugh. "I don't know what to tell you, it's all pretty boring."
"Oh, I doubt that." He said with a soft smile.
You smile in return, feeling your heart hammer in your chest. You weren't expecting to be alone with Gwaine, and now he wanted to know all about you? You had never felt more unsure of yourself.
"How about this, I will just ask you questions, and you answer."
"Alright, but do I get to ask you questions too?"
He nodded "Of course."
"Alright then." You smiled, wondering where this conversation would end up.
"Okay, let me see," he mumbled "Why did you pick Camelot? Of all the placed you could have moved to, why here?"
You thought about your response for a moment, as you and Gwaine headed deeper into the woods, and closer to Camelot.
--------
As the mid-day sun hung over head, you and Gwaine sat by a small river, taking a break from your long venture back to Camelot.
"So, you've been in Camelot a lot longer that I have" Gwaine said as he sat down beside you. "But I hardly see you with anyone but the Knights, Merlin, or Gwen."
"Yes? And?"
"Is there no one else in your life?"
You felt an uneasy tightness in your chest at this, but you smiled casually. "Is that not enough people?"
He smiled and shook his head. "I meant romantically."
You felt a bit of tension rise between you, but felt it was surely one sided. You shook your head as you pulled your water canister from your bag.
"Ah. Well, no, there is no one romantically in my life." Standing, you began to head to the river, unaware of the hopeful gaze on Gwaine's face.
"And no one, headed, in that direction then?" Gwaine asked, watching your profile.
You shrugged your head a bit, "I don't know. I tend to be 'blissfully unaware' of that sort of thing, or at least Gwen says so."
Gwaine let out a soft laugh, and you felt your heart beating heavily. As curiosity set heavy on your mind, you asked softly, while trying to sound as casual as you could.
"What about you? Who are you with?"
He shook his head. "No one."
You looked at him with a bit of surprise, he was unable to miss. He rose a brow a bit. "I know I'm labeled the palace flirt, but that doesn't mean I'm always in a relationship."
You let out a soft chuckle. "I thought you liked that label."
He shrugged softly. "I didn't mind it at first, but, I don't want it to become my reputation. The person I have actual feelings for might not think to kindly of me if it is, they might not trust me."
You felt your heart sink a bit as you turned, looking out at the forest, not wanting Gwaine to see your face.
"So you like someone then? In Camelot?"
Gwaine stared at you, wondering if that was disappointment in your voice or if he was just imagining it. "Yes, I do."
"What are they like?"
Gwaine's lip curled up a bit before he spoke. "They're amazing. They're smart, witty, talented, too kind for their own good really. Attractive, more than they're willing to admit. They're much too good for me, really."
You looked down at your feet but smiled softly. "They almost sound made up."
He let out a soft laugh. "I would think so too if I didn't know them. I don't think they realize half those things about themselves though."
You wondered who it was he was thinking of. Someone you knew? It didn't really sound like it. Maybe it was someone he met in the town.
"Sounds like you really do like them."
Was that a hint of jealousy? No. Surely you understood he was talking about you by now.
"I do. Very much."
His voice had grown softer, and you felt a jealousy in your chest, but you tried to push it away. You should feel happy for him. Happy that he has found someone who makes him feel that way, even if it couldn't be you.
Swallowing down your feelings, you turned back around and made your way over.
"So, how long have you been with them? Do the other Knights know about them?"
Gwaine frowned as he watched you set your water down, before you grabbed a rag and went back to the water. You really didn't realize he had been talking about you. He almost laughed.
"I'm not with them."
"Oh." You looked back at him, clearly confused. Wiping your face and hands with the damp rag, you steadied your voice. "So, do they know? How you feel?"
He shook his head softly as he watched you closely. "I don't think so."
"Whats stopping you from telling them?"
He repressed a smile as he cleared his throat and began to stand up. "I've tried, but I don't think they understood what I was saying. Or, they just didn't understand how it could be them I had feelings for."
'Sounds familiar' you thought quickly as you stood. "Maybe they need a more obvious sign."
You mentally kicked yourself for encouraging him, all you were doing was pushing him further away from you.
Gwaine made his way towards you, "An obvious sign? Like a kiss?"
You almost choked, "Uhm, I suppose that would be obvious" you let out a short laugh. "But, you can't just march up to them and kiss them out of the blue."
Gwaine stepped up to you. "So I ask first?"
You tilted your head with a soft shake, "Yeah, then you'd at least know for certain how they felt."
Gwaine continued to stare at you as he nodded softly. A small smile spread across his face as you felt your heart flutter.
"Alright then." Taking a step closer, he was right in front of you, his eyes drilling into yours. You felt your breath catch in your throat. "Can I kiss you?"
As confusion turned into denial, following by realization, you opened your mouth slowly, and spoke softly. "You were talking about me?"
His lips stretched into a grin as he nodded softly. "I thought I was being obvious."
You felt your face grown hot as you failed to repress a smile. "Gwen was right. I am-"
Gwaine's smile turned into a grin as you both spoke at the same time.
"Blissfully unaware."
You giggled softly as you looked down, feeling almost overwhelming embarrassment, confusion and excitement.
Feeling Gwaine hook his finger under your chin, you looked up to meet his gaze. "I was certainly right about one thing. You really don't realize any of those things about yourself do you?"
"I don't really think about myself at all." You admitted.
His smile faded a bit, before he replaced it again with a flirty gaze. "That's alright, I think about you enough for the both of us."
You let out an almost startled giggle as you felt your ears burning hot.
Keeping your eyes locked with his, you felt him gently caress your chin with his finger. "So, about that kiss?"
Your heart was hammering heavily in your chest, as you found it hard to breath. Smiling, you nodded your head.
Gwaine slowly lowered his head, as his lips met yours gently. The soft kiss was deepened as Gwaine brought his hand to the back of your neck and pulled you closer. You brought your hand up and set it against his chest.
Slowly parting, your eyes fluttered open meeting his again. You both had soft smiles on your lips.
"I do trust you, by the way." You whispered softly. "Label or not."
His smile widened, "You really are too good for me."
You shook your head lightly. "Agree to disagree."
Letting out a soft breathy laugh, he pulled you into another kiss, deeper and more passionate than the last. You wrapped your arms around his neck, as he pulled you flush against him.
xx End xx
I had no idea what to write next, so I just ended it lol. Hope you enjoyed it nonetheless <3

Emails and Interludes (Arthur Pendragon x M!Reader)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Dom CEO Arthur Pendragon x Sub Cis Male Employee Reader Rating: Explicit Words: 1395 POV: Second Summary: You CEO has control over your vibrating buttplug and since he is the boss, he gets to play with it whenever the fuck he wants. Note: For the prompt ‘vibrator’.  See my kinktober 2022 masterlist here.  Tags: bluetooth sex toys, modern AU, CEO AU, buttplugs, dom/sub, humiliation kink (?), pain play, degradation kink, etablished relationship, safe sane and consensual, little bit of crying and aftercare
You had been answering emails for the better part of two hours, when something suddenly started buzzing. It was not your phone. You cleared your throat and leaned your elbow on the desk, hiding half your face with your hand on your chin, trying to disguise that the vibrating butt plug you had in just came to life, while you were in your cubicle at the office.
With one hand you unlocked your phone, checking if you missed any messages from your boyfriend. However, it seemed he just decided to play with you without any notice. You squeezed your thighs together, hoping your cock would not get too excited.
What started out as a gentle vibration, grew to an intense stimulation of your prostate. You bit your lip and hit your face with your hands, trying to make it look like a headache. “Sir, are you okay?” You looked up to see one of the interns leaning against your desk, looking worried. Guinevere was such a sweet girl, but you really did not need her kindness right now.
You nodded your head. “Yeah, just a bit of a headache.” She put the pile of papers she had been holding onto your desk and put a hand on your forehead. You did not protest, putting all your energy into keeping a straight face.
“You’re not heating up. Do you want paracetamol? I always keep some in my bag.” You nodded your head again and watched her scurry off with her papers. You let go of the breath you had been holding and a few seconds later the vibrations died down. Then your phone started buzzing too. You let out a relieved chuckle, when you saw who texted you. Mr. CEO Pendragon himself texted you to go up to his office.
You left before Guinevere could return with her painkillers. The walk up to the elevator felt awkward. You were just thankful for an empty elevator up to the top floor. Merlin sat at his desk outside Arthur’s office. He was on the phone telling someone to not-so-kindly fuck off. He gave you a nod of acknowledgement and a thumb to signal that Arthur was not occupied. You knew that. Otherwise he would not have started playing with your buttplug.
You knocked on the door, before entering the huge office. Arthur sat at his desk, pretending to be typing something important. You could tell by how quickly he was hitting the keys. Usually, he was slow as molasses. The highrise windows behind him were covered with the white drapes that allowed the daylight to enter, without allowing anyone to see what Mr. Pendragon and one of his employees were up to. “Hope I am not disturbing you, Mr. Pendragon… sir,” you mused, while you sauntered over to the leather couch in his office and lied down on your stomach.
Arthur did not look directly at you. “In fact, you are,” he said, casually grabbing his phone. You squirmed in anticipation. “I will be with you in a moment.” And just as he finished his sentence, you felt the medium vibrations inside you. You moaned and stretched your body over the couch, trying to entice your boss boyfriend into giving you his full attention right now.
You unbuckled your belt and loosened your pants. You shamelessly reached into your underwear to stroke your hardening cock. You closed your eyes and made yourself comfortable, touching yourself as if you were in your own bed at home. A few overexagurated moans later, you heard Arthur get up, but you pretended like you did not. It was only a matter of seconds until your hand was roughly pulled away from your cock. You opened your eyes to meet Arthur’s hard gaze. “What do you think you’re doing?” He leered.
You smirked up at him. “Waiting for you, sir. I thought you were busy,” you teased, a shit-eating grin on your face. Arthur was not impressed. He twisted your arm and lifted you to your knees. Your chest moved along with your heavy breaths as you waited in anticipation. You looked over your shoulder at Arthur, who seemed to enjoy your predicament.
You stayed like that for a moment, hand twisted behind your back, on your knees on the couch with your pants unzipped. “Get undressed,” Arthur demanded, before letting you go. Once you had regained full control of your body, you made hasty work of ridding yourself of your clothes. You then kneeled on the patterned carpet between the couch and the glass coffee table.
You put your hands on the back of your head and stretched your back, making sure you looked just how he preferred you. However, keeping a straight back was hard, when Arthur set the vibrator inside you to its maximum setting. You moaned, cock weeping between your legs. You could feel the precum dripping down your length. You looked over at the desk, where the CEO was leaning against his desk, phone in hand and eyes glued onto your trembling body.
“Please, mercy!” You eventually cried out when you could no longer hold your position and doubled over. You dug your fingers into the carpet, your hips thrusting into the air against your will. Arthur’s expensive leather shoes made a clear sound as they stepped over the marble floor towards you. The sound stopped when he reached the carpet.
You could no longer hear his steps, so it was quite the surprise when you were suddenly grabbed by the hair. “This is what you get for being a whore in my office,” Arthur snarled as he pulled at your hair until you were on your back on the carpet. He straightened his back and his leather shoe came to rest at the base of your cock. You cried out in surprise as the pain shot through your body.
“Aren’t you ashamed of how needy you are?” You whimpered, unsure what he wanted to hear from you. He shifted his foot and increased the pressure, his heel digging into your balls, while the rest of his foot squished your cock between his shoe and your stomach. “You like this, don’t you? Say it!”
“I love it!” You started sobbing, the vibrations inside you and the pain driving you crazy. It was all pain of the most exquisite kind. “I’m your dumb whore, please let me cum.” Through your tears, you could see how pleased your boyfriend was with you. He moved his foot back and forth, painfully massaging your cock.
Arthur scoffed at you. “You’re pathetic.” The pressure increased. You were sobbing in pleasure and pain. “Cum then. You’re such a painslut. Show me that you’re at least a well-trained one.”
You closed your eyes, moaning, sobbing and gasping as your weeping cock shot cum all over your chest. Arthur did not lift his shoe off your cock, until you were milked dry. The vibrations inside you slowly decreased to a full stop and you were left a mess on the floor. Your breath was shaking as you came down from your high.
After a moment, you felt Arthur’s hand caressing your face. “Are you all right?” You saw the pack of wet wipes in his hand and nodded, before resting your head back on the carpet. “Good,” he replied, before he started to take wipes out of the pack and wipe the cum off your body. When he was done, he helped you off the floor. You winced when you moved and felt the buttplug shift inside you.
After Arthur helped you get the plug out, you collapsed on the couch, head in your boyfriend’s lap. You enjoyed the moment of calmness as you mentally returned to the real world. Arthur noticed it the moment you were present and killed the silence. “Dating your boss comes with the benefit of sex interludes at work, but you still need to work you know,” he teased and poked your shoulder.
You kept your eyes closed, blindly waving off his hand. “You are so fucking romantic,” you complained back at him. Arthur responded by leaning down and capturing your lips in a gentle, loving kiss. When your lips parted and you opened your eyes, you saw the lovestruck look he gave you.
“Just a little longer then,” he whispered, before kissing you again. Nothing like sex interludes between emails.

Tumblr media
In the corner of a restaurant, huddled at a table meant for two, you slurp up the last of the noodles and lick the grease off your lips with a satisfied sigh.
Good, authentic Carmarthenian food is hard to come by on Golden Goose Avenue, but this one – this one is promising. A rich broth, fresh vegetables sliced paper-thin, spices that warm your throat like gentle coals in a fireplace. You long to be able to cook this well, but the culinary arts are more different from elixirism than one would think. (For one, the quality of food is measured by how good it tastes.)
“More?” asks the owner, an older lady who reminds you of Fay. (She owns the restaurant with her son. He’s your age, she’d told you when she brought your food. Single. Graduated top of his class at culinary school and takes very good care of her.)
“Oh, no, thank you. I’m so full.” You feel guilty for saying no, even though you’d given in the previous two times. You eye the table next to yours. “But could I have some tteokbokki to go?”
“Of course.”
After paying your bill and sitting for a bit longer to digest, you heft yourself up and grab your takeout, waving goodbye to the owner and her son before finally exiting the restaurant.
The bright sunlight scalds your eyes. Squinting against it, you look around for some signs or a directory. You’re already done with your work-shopping for the day. Maybe you could go browse for some new books.
Just as you reorient yourself and start heading towards Beauty and the Books, you hear two familiar voices coming from somewhere nearby.
“Red Shoes!”
You perk up, curious. Turning around, you catch sight of Arthur and Merlin rounding a corner, hands cupped around their mouths. Behind them lumbers a giant wooden bunny.
“Red Sh – oh,” Arthur cuts himself off once he spots you, blinking in surprise. “Hello. Fancy running into you here. Have you seen Red Shoes, by any chance?”
You eye Merlin, who only meets your gaze for a second before finding a sudden interest in the nearby lamppost. Fine. He can act how he likes, and you’ll pretend he doesn’t exist. “No.”
“Great.” Arthur sighs and slumps forward. “I take my eyes off her for just a few seconds and she up and disappears on me.”
Your brow wrinkles, and you glance around. You certainly haven’t seen Red Shoes since you got here, but Golden Goose Avenue is a big place, and you haven’t exactly been paying attention to the other shoppers. “Maybe she went into one of the stores to shop by herself. Is it really that big of a deal?”
“Well, no, but you never know what could happen,” Arthur persists. “Looks like hers bring all sorts of creeps out of the woodworks. He shudders. “Speaking from experience.”
Now, that is something you can imagine. Maybe it’s not so great to be so beautiful, you think, if all you get in return are expectations.
“I’ll help you find her,” you offer.
“Would you? Fantastic!”
Walking alongside Arthur as he retraces his steps, you keep an eye out for silky brown hair, a red satin skirt – lovestruck gazes. You hope she’s outside so you can avoid the hassle of looking in each individual shop. Some of them are charmed to keep you inside for hours.
In all honesty, it’s more likely that Red Shoes will find the three of you instead of the other way around, given the heavy thump, thump, thumps that rumble behind the two of you down the street.
You clear your throat during a lull between calling her name.
“So, what’s with the giant wooden bunny?”
Arthur looks up at you and then back at the silent creature. He reaches up to scratch the back of his head before stopping midway and posturing instead. “Just a vicious beast that I rescued Red Shoes from last night. Pretty impressive, right?”
“Ha!” Merlin says, and Arthur whips around.
“Got something to say, magic boy?!”
As the two begin to bicker, you drop back to examine the bunny again. It stares back at you, eyes half-lidded as if utterly unimpressed with the company it has found itself in. ‘Vicious’ is the last thing you’d use to describe it. If anything, it’s calmer than any of you.
You’ve never heard of giant wooden animals living near Risky Rock before. Maybe the increase in monster activity is affecting the wildlife …
“—so I’m not even gonna bother explaining women to you anymore.” A loud scoff from Arthur distracts you from your staring contest with the bunny, and you furrow your brow as he breaks away from Merlin to resume walking. You jog slightly to catch up. “C’mon, [Y/n]. Red Shoes! Red Shoes?”
From the alleyway to your right, you hear someone call out.
“Guys! Guys, I’m here.”
When you turn to look into the shadows of the alley, you can just make out the figure of a young woman in the middle of a group of knights. She waves at you.
You don’t recognize her. Judging by the looks on Arthur and Merlin’s faces, they don’t know her either, so the three of you awkwardly look away and continue on.
“That was weird,” Merlin mutters once you’re out of earshot.
“She probably thought we were someone else,” Arthur brushes it off. “Let’s go, we need to find Red Shoes.”
Merlin nods, but when you look at him, his expression is troubled. He glances over his shoulder and stops walking.
“No, the way those knights were standing around her …” he starts. “Something didn’t seem right.”
You frown. You’d be the first to list Merlin’s many faults, but poor instincts is not one of them; you’ve been on the wrong end of them too many times to count. You think back to the alleyway and wonder what he had noticed that you didn’t. Was the woman secretly asking for help? Were the knights not as relaxed as you thought they were?
Arthur groans impatiently, throwing his arms out. “They’re probably helping her find whoever she thought we were,” he responds. “It’s fine. Now, are you going to help me find our princess or not?”
Your gaze flits from one prince to the other, stopping on Merlin as he continues to look over his shoulder. His fingers twitch, antsy, and his mouth presses into a thin line before he opens it.
“Keep looking for her,” he finally says, turning around and running back to the alley. “I’ll be right back!”
Curiosity eclipsing your pride, you run after him.
“Are you ser – guys!” Arthur yells after the two of you, his voice fading with the distance. “Merlin, stop trying so hard to play hero!”
With Merlin’s stature, it’s easy to catch up to him. “Hey,” you ask once you do, clutching your bags to your chest to keep their contents from clattering around, “what did you –”
“Shh.” He halts abruptly just before the entrance to the alleyway, throwing an arm out to stop you.
You hold your tongue and swallow the impulse to push him right back. Wordlessly, he and you peek around the corner and squint through the darkness.
Oh.
The knights, who had seemed so casual before, now cluster in the back of the alleyway, their weapons raised. And though you can’t see her, you can hear the voice of the young woman from before.
(You hate it when he’s right.)
The soft crinkle of paper by your leg catches your ear, and you glance down to see Merlin holding one of his talismans. Your eyes widen.
“Uh, Merlin –”
“Come on,” he mutters, and the next thing you know, he’s striding towards the knights and flicking his fingers with quiet confidence.
The knights rattle and drop like flies, revealing the cowering figure of the poor woman you’d all ignored earlier. She’s pressed herself against the back wall. As she lowers her arms, eyes round with shock and fear, shame swirls in the pit of your stomach.
You trail after Merlin as he picks a red shoe off the ground and dusts it off. He approaches the woman and offers it to her.
“Your red shoe, milady,” Merlin says.
His voice is gentle, assuring, and soft, and it renders you speechless.
Merlin isn’t gentle. He’s arrogant, and flashy, and tries too hard to be suave. He’s a prince. He’s not a gentleman. But the way he had gone back, and the way he had stayed to speak with the woman afterwards …
Something moves inside your chest. It warms behind your ribcage, and you are startled by the strangeness of it, and strangely frightened.
“… Excuse me, miss, have we met?”
“Um”—the woman tenses, meeting your eyes before quickly looking away, and you are hit with a odd, vague sense of familiarity—“well, that’s kind of a complicated question.”
You open your mouth, only to be interrupted by the sound of Arthur yelling out for Red Shoes outside the alley.
You had almost forgotten.
“Will you be okay?” You break your silence upon your second attempt, lowering the bags from your arms.
This time, the woman holds your gaze, and she smiles a bit bigger, nodding. “Yeah, I think so.”
“Okay … er.” There are now two pairs of eyes on you as you free one hand to dig around in your satchel and pull out a small bottle. It’s partly to assuage your guilt, which makes you feel guiltier somehow, but, “Here, have this. It’s a deterrent. You spray it.” When she takes it hesitantly, you hastily tack on, “It’s free.”
(Oh, gods, you think. Why would you even say that?)
Merlin tugs at your sleeve, gesturing at the street with his head. “We gotta go,” he tells the woman. “Stay safe.”
You mumble out some semblance of a similar sentiment, and as you leave her, hurrying out of the darkness into the bright light, you bite your bottom lip in embarrassment and squeeze your eyes shut.
“Wow.” Merlin releases you once you’ve both turned the corner, letting out a snort that brings blood rushing to your ears. “I bet princesses would be scrambling in line for your post-rescue care.”
“Shut up,” you grumble, desperately wishing for him to just drop it, drop it. (You know he won’t.) “What – what about that weird act you had going back there? ‘Your red shoes, milady’ – I almost died of cringe!”
“Excuse me? I wasn’t acting,” Merlin replies indignantly. “And it wasn’t cringey.”
“I’ve never seen you be that nice without a motive.”
He huffs up at you. “I’m actually genuinely nice, thank you! You’d know that if you didn’t antagonize me all the time.”
“I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around,” you retort.
“Oh, please.” The two of you begin to walk towards Arthur and the Wood-Rabbit, and Merlin’s voice takes on a smugger tone, needling at the part of you that remains young and oversensitive. “You know what I think?” he says. “I think you’re jealous that I was being nice to her.”
“… What?”
“It’s perfectly fine, [Y/n].” He casts a glance at you, a smirk stretching across his cheeks. “If you ever get attacked by a dragon or something, I’ll sweep you off your feet too.”
You balk. Heat spreads from your ears to the entirety of your face.
That little –
“Took you guys long enough!” Arthur scolds right as you’ve decided to encase Merlin’s head in an ice cube and then yours. “So, Merlin, was I right or was I right?”
“You were wrong, actually,” Merlin snarks. “There was a problem, and I took care of it. [Y/n] can vouch for that.”
“Yeah, right, you really think I’m gonna believe”—Arthur looks to you for backup, only for his face to drop when you glare at the ground and cross your arms—“believe … w-well, that’s …! Fine! Anyways, more importantly, I just saw Red Shoes on a wanted poster, and I have a lot of questions about that, so we need to find her ASAP.”
“Wanted poster?” you ask.
“You didn’t see them? The knights have been passing them out,” Merlin says. “The ones that weren’t busy harassing citizens, at least.”
He pulls out a piece of paper and unfolds it, offering it to you. With distaste curling your lips, refusing to meet his eyes, you snatch it up and read the header and footer.
WANTED, it says. BIG REWARD.
Drawn in the middle of the page is, without question, Red Shoes.
“What did she do?”
“It doesn’t say.”
“I know it doesn’t say; I can read. What did the knights say?”
“Go and ask them yourself.”
“Oh, for the Lady’s sake,” bemoans Arthur, throwing his head back and turning around, “I liked it better when you two were moping. Can you just –” He looks past you and suddenly, his eyes brighten. “Red Shoes!”
He waves his arm. You turn on your heel, catching sight of who you’re certain is Red Shoes dashing towards the entrance of the Avenue. She doesn’t so much as slow down or look over her shoulder.
“Stop!”
You blink, and a gust of wind blows by as two giant men barrel past you. It doesn’t take much to figure out who they’re chasing after.
Merlin yanks your arm a split second later.
“Get on!”
“Get on what –” Realizing his plan, you scramble after him onto the Wood-Rabbit’s back. “What about Arthur?”
Merlin clutches onto the greenery sprouting from the back of the rabbit’s head. “He’ll catch up!”
You yelp as the Wood-Rabbit stands up, grabbing a fistful of moss with your right hand. Your left hand isn’t so lucky.
The creature bounds forward, and you fly several inches up into the air. With a panicked gasp, you wrap your loose arm around the next sturdiest thing and squeeze tight.
Merlin lets out a mix between a wheeze and a cough as you all but crush his lungs. “What are you doing?” he yells, trying to pry your hand from his coat. “Grab Red Shoes!”
The rabbit jumps again, bringing your heart to your throat, and you tighten your grip. “You’re the rescuer, aren’t you?!”
“How can you expect me to – just do it!”
“I can’t!”
“Yes, you can!”
“I can’t!” you shriek just as you catch up to Red Shoes, throwing your arm out. She grabs it, and when the rabbit jumps, she soars upward and lands right behind you.
“I’m okay!” she yells, grabbing the moss on the Wood-Rabbit’s back with far better luck than you.
Merlin looks back, exhaling with relief when he sees Red Shoes. “Thank Morgaina,” he exclaims. The four of you sail past the Avenue’s entrance, and his attention then turns to you, his eyebrows raising as you dig your fingers into his coat again. “See, was that so hard, you big baby?”
“You’re a jerk,” you shout. But your nerves are alight, and your blood is rushing, and a sharp, wild laugh bubbles from your throat for the very first time. “If we die, I’ll kill you myself!”
“Like you could!” he says. You feel laughter rumbling through his chest, fresh and real and alive.
(Your heart jumps into your throat again.)
Behind you, Red Shoes dissolves into giggles. The adrenaline pounding in your head brings with it the hysterical relief that only comes from a terrifying experience, and your laughter joins hers and Merlin’s, cracking the air and leaving your pursuers in its wake.
This curse is going to take years off your life, you think. You find yourself not caring nearly as much as you should.

Harry and you have been sent on a mission together. While most of it is supposed to be gathering intelligence, there is a high-risk of having to kill some criminals to make sure they can’t spread word of your existence any further. Tonight is the first evening at the ski resort. The trip in and of itself wasn’t too eventful, Merlin flew the two of you to the French Alps, where you were picked up by a car and brought to the chalet you’ll be staying in. It is quite cosy, but still comfortable. It has two small bedrooms with a queen sized bed, a nightstand and a closet. You would have to share the bathroom, but that was standard procedure when it came to these sorts of missions. While Harry takes the room on the right, you take the one on the left and start unpacking your luggage.
From the kitchenette you hear Harry’s voice ‘Tea?’ ‘Yes please.’ You call back out to him. Quickly, you put the last of your clothes in the closet, while you put your other supplies under the bed in their metal briefcase. Before walking to where Harry is, you quickly go into the bathroom and put your bag of toiletries into the cupboard.
‘Do sit down, Kay.’ Harry motions you to take a seat and pours some tea into your cup. ‘Thank you Galahad,’ you sip your tea, ‘it’s lovely.’ He also takes a drink. ‘I always find a black tea and citrus blend warms one up quite well, especially in this sort of weather.’ His eyes shift to the window, yours following. A lot of snow had fallen the past week or so. ‘The predictions say it’ll start snowing again in two days.’ A surprised sound escapes Harry’s throat. ‘I’d hoped for clear skies, suppose we can’t have everything.’ He says matter of factly. ‘You only go skiing with good weather? I thought a bit of snow wouldn’t stop you.’ The teasing comment earns you a glare. ‘I don’t, however I do prefer some blue skies rather than grey ones that have snow constantly falling out of them.’ The agent scoffs.
Before finishing your tea, the two of you decide to talk through some of the plans for that evening and the upcoming week. ‘So we’re a couple? Or should we go another route with the story?’ He’s quiet for a moment. ‘I think that pretending to be a couple may be the most believable;’ his eyes divert, ‘especially considering that we will probably need to get close to other couples anyway.’ You nod. It wasn’t too unusual for you to play a couple when it came to missions such as this one, though it never went any further than some kisses on the cheek, holding hands, or having an arm around each other. Harry and you got along well enough, but there was always this underlying tension. He has always been favoured by Arthur and Merlin, probably partially because he has been a part of the Kingsman for quite a bit longer than you. Because of this, you always want to beat him, in whichever way possible. It remains unspoken, but you suspect Galahad enjoys it quite a bit. ‘The usual rules?’ You nod again. ‘Kay, you know I need more confirmation than you just nodding.’ ‘Yes, Galahad, the same rules as usual. No kissing on the lips unless absolutely necessary for our cover and no intimacy under any circumstances. Physical contact is to be kept to a minimum, holding hands or putting an arm around the other’s shoulder is fine.’ It was almost robotic as it came out of your mouth. ‘Good.’ He smiles. ‘Now, I was thinking we take the gondola up the mountain tomorrow morning around 9?’
The following morning you sat at the kitchen table around 8, a bowl of yoghurt and a cup of tea in front of you. Harry sits on the other side of the table sipping his tea as he waits for his toast. The both of you sit in silence until the both of you finish your breakfast and put on your glasses. ‘Galahad. Kay. Good morning to the both of you.’ Merlin’s voice is quite clear. ‘Morning.’ You mutter before Harry starts talking through the mission. Being more of a night owl meant that the early mornings which came with the job from time to time really weren’t your favourite. Pictures of some people flash before your eyes. ‘These are the targets. You’ll be pretty likely to interact with them either in one of the many ski huts or when you’re eating out in the evening. Try to befriend them in order to gain their trust and information.’ Merlin pauses. ‘So I’d like the both of you to avoid bickering in public.’ Harry looks at you. ‘Yes Merlin, I’ll try my best to not annoy Galahad too much.’ He scoffs. ‘It’s not that you annoy me, it’s just that you can be so incredibly incompetent at times, Kay.’ ‘As if you aren’t Galahad. Remember last year’s Christmas party?’ You retort.
‘This is exactly what I’m trying to avoid here.’ Merlin interrupts you before you’re able to say anything else. ‘Look, the two of you are meant to be a couple. Act like it.’ The more annoyed the bald man becomes, the thicker his Scottish accent. The instructions were quite clear so you look Galahad in the eye. ‘Time to go skiing?’ Your voice drips in honey.
On the mountain itself, you didn’t speak to Galahad much, only discussing what slopes to take next and what off-piste routes may be of use if necessary. While both of you are quite proficient when it comes to skiing, Harry’s more old school, focussing on making those perfect turns and going at a steady speed. You, on the other hand, tend to show off from time to time, doing jumps or little tricks whenever you pass him. Around noon, you decided to have lunch together at one of the huts. This one had quite the amazing view of the slopes and nature surrounding it.
‘Je prendrai le croque monsieur avec un verre de vin, s'il vous plaît.’ Of course his French was impeccable. ‘Je prendrais les crêpes et un verre de vin, le même que mon ami, s’il vous plaît.’ While you had studied the language for a while, much more than ordering food wasn’t in your cards at the moment. Unlike most members of the Kingsman, or its candidates for that matter, you have not had a private education, meaning that you didn’t get much of an opportunity to learn foreign languages on a higher level. ‘You speak French?’ Harry asks you. ‘Not much, just enough to get by in restaurants and shops. I’d like to study it again in order to improve at some point in the future.’ He smiles. ‘It sounded pretty good, if you want I can teach you a little bit when we get back to the cabin? Before we go out for dinner.’ ‘Sounds good, thanks.’ You smile back. ‘Would you want me to teach you a few tricks in turn?’ Reaching out, he takes hold of your right hand and leans forward. ‘I don’t think I’m the type to learn tricks.’ He pauses and whispers. ‘Now, that couple at 8 o’clock is one of our targets. Let’s keep an eye on them throughout our lunch.’ The food arrives as he says so. He releases your hand and sits up straight once again. ‘Merci.’
The food was pretty good, the wine complimenting it well enough. After finishing, both of you order a cup of tea and sit in silence, enjoying the sun which finally came out from behind the clouds. You lean back in your chair, stretching your legs and closing your eyes for a moment. The cold air feels wonderful against your skin. You hear the chair in front of you move for a moment. Opening only one eye, you see Harry has grabbed a pocket-sized novel from his jacket and has started reading. Quickly, you close your eye again. It was quite comfortable like this, a last moment of rest before you’d have to go socialise and get close to the given targets. The current plan is that before you head back to your cabin, you'll visit an apres ski bar, as it’s likely you’ll meet more of your targets there and may overhear what they’re planning for the upcoming few days. There’s one bar which is particularly popular amongst the targets, so you decided that that would be the place to go that afternoon. But for now, you decided you’d just enjoy the peace and quiet.  After a few minutes, Harry closes his book. ‘I’ll be right back dear.’ You open your eyes and look at him, smile, and nod. You follow his figure with your eyes. It becomes clear that he’s following one of the targets into the bathroom, pretending on having to go himself. As you wait, you slowly drink some more of your tea, silently observing the woman that was with the target just moments before. You take a picture of her with your glasses and send it to Merlin and whisper, ‘Any idea who this is?’ His response is swift. ‘That’s Guilia Fontana. Her father is a quite well known criminal in Italy, I think she tends to be less prominent within his organisation. What’s notable is that she’s recently been spotted multiple times with our target Angelo Bianco, it seems they’re on holiday together.’ Shortly after confirming the information and asking a few more questions, Harry arrives, leaning in to kiss you on the cheek before whispering, ‘Good news, I know where we’ll have dinner tonight.’ You look at him confused. ‘Got a particularly good address from our friend, who’ll be eating there tonight as well.’ He smirks when he pulls away and sits down next to you, his hand resting on your knee. Had he not been a colleague you desperately wanted to beat at everything, you might’ve found this moment of closeness attractive, but considering everything, you were more annoyed that you didn’t discover it before him. ‘And what sort of food do they serve, love?’ The last word came out almost strained.
You spent a couple of more hours on the slopes before heading to the apres ski bar. During that time, Merlin informed you that he’d managed to get the two of you a table at the aforementioned restaurant. It was quite fancy, according to him, and it served mostly french food.
At the bar, you go get some drinks. While ordering, a man moves to stand next to you. It happens to be the target Galahad had followed earlier in the day, Angelo Bianco. You aren’t too interested in talking to him immediately, but he starts up a conversation with you as you both wait. ‘Good afternoon, I think I talked to your man earlier today. What’s your name?’ ‘I’m Cameron, but you may call me Cam. What’s your name?’ You hold out your hand for him to shake it. ‘Nice to meet you Cam, I’m Angelo.’ He says as he takes it to shake it. ‘Likewise,  Angelo.’ You smile at him. ‘So what’s brought you here to France? Having a nice holiday?’ ‘Ah yes, me and my fiance are here on holiday, some of her family will be coming to join us in a couple of days. What about you?’ This was quite useful information, you’d have to try and stretch this as much as possible. ‘That sounds lovely. Me and my partner are here on a holiday trip as well, though we have quite different skiing styles, so it can be a challenge from time to time.’ He laughs. ‘I know what that’s like, Guilia only wants to take blue and red slopes, rarely is she open to going off the black ones. Park is never really an option either.’ This is perfect. ‘Yeah, Harry isn’t a fan of the parks either. I think it’s a mental thing of not wanting to jump or something. I’d love to check them out though, I’ve heard they’re pretty amazing here.’ Angelo’s eyes light up, exactly what you’d hoped for. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Harry approach as you continue talking to Angelo. ‘Ah hello Harry, how’s it going?’ The bartender finally comes up with your drinks and you quietly pay as the two men talk. ‘Cam and I were just talking about the ski resort and everything it offers. Perhaps we can meet with the four of us at lunch tomorrow, check out the parks afterwards? I heard you guys were new here so we could show you around if you’d like?’ Harry seems to hesitate, so you slightly nudge him with your elbow and join the conversation once again. ‘That’d be lovely Angelo, thank you for the offer. We’d love to have you show us around, maybe Harry and Guilia can watch while we do a few park rounds after lunch? I’ve heard there’s a hut that has a great view of it.’
While you secured the supposed “double date”, Harry didn’t look too happy; at least to those who are able to see through his pleasant mannerisms. After excusing yourselves, having had a couple of drinks with Angelo and Guilia, the two of you go outside. Turning a corner, into a dimly lit area, Harry grabs your elbow and angrily whispers, ‘What do you think you’re doing? Inviting us on a double date with some of the most well-connected Italian criminals? This was not a part of the plan Cam.’ The way he pronounced the last sentence was almost venomous. ‘Harry, this is our opportunity to gain more information than expected.’ You whisper back angrily. ‘It’s dangerous.’ He retorts.
‘As if everything else we do isn’t, Galahad. Just play along, please.’ You almost spit out the words before pulling your arm free and walking to your skis. You still had a dinner to attend later that evening after all.

Positive - Sir Leon
Tumblr media
Requested by anonymous.  Prompt: Hello! I see your asks are open! I was wondering if you could do a Sir Leon x Reader where the reader finds out she is pregnant, and is nervous about the pregnancy, and nervous what Leon will think. I love your writing for him so much!
Pairing: Sir Leon x Reader Word Count: 1.1k Synopsis: Leon reassures the reader when anxiety about the pregnancy overtakes the joy of their upcoming child.
Warnings: mentions of death in childbirth.
"Are you absolutely positive?" you asked, looking up at the doctor nervously.
"Yes."
"There's no chance . . ."
"No, my lady, you are pregnant." She took a step towards you, looking you in the eye. "Are you alright?"
"I am," you said, touching a hand to your stomach. "Just unexpected."
"Would you like me to alert your husband?"
"No, no, I will tell him.” You let out a breath.
“Congratulations, my lady,” the doctor said. “I’ll leave you be.” She nodded her head at you before leaving the room, giving you space to think.
You couldn’t sit in the infirmary for long. Upon leaving, you walked down the halls of the castle, hoping to clear your thoughts. You knew you should be filled with excitement, this was something that you and Leon had been hoping for for such a long time, but you couldn’t stop the anxiety that was building inside of you.
Your own mother had died in childbirth, a fact that your father, and the aunt who had raised you, reminded you of many times. You were raised an only child, and never spent much time with other children. You didn’t know the first thing about being a mother, if you even got to be one.
You were nearly sick by the time you stopped by the entrance to the training grounds. You had nearly walked the length of the castle. If you stepped through those doors, you knew that you could find Leon and he would put you at ease. You just weren’t sure how to tell him yet.
How could you tell your husband what was supposed to be good news, when you yourself were riddled with anxiety about it all?
The doctor had recommended that you take lots of rest, after you disclosed what happened with your mother, and you decided to listen to her advice. You turned from the door, intending to find your room in the castle, just as the doors opened behind you.
“Y/N!”
You turned, briefly blinded by the sun emanating through the door, to find Leon walking into the castle, Gwaine and Elyan at his side.
“Hello, my love,” you said, smiling up at him. He came to your side and kissed your lips softly.
“Were you looking for me?” he asked.
“No, I was just taking a walk. I hope I didn’t disturb--”
“You didn’t. We were just finishing up for the day, in fact.” He nodded back at his fellow knights and they dismissed themselves, giving you a polite smile. Leon offered you his arm and you took it, wrapping your hand around his chainmailed bicep.
“Is everything alright?” he asked when you had walked in silence for a few minutes.
“Yes, sorry,” you said, shaking your head. “My thoughts are just elsewhere.”
“Well, maybe I could go there, too,” he said, smiling down at you. “What’s on your mind?”
“Nothing you need to be worried about,” you said, squeezing his arm gently.
“You are my wife, Y/N, anything that concerns you will, of course, concern me,” he said. You smiled at him weakly.
“I’ve just been thinking . . . about my mother.”
“You don’t talk about her much,” Leon said.
“I didn’t know her at all. She died in childbirth.”
“I remember,” he said with a nod of his head. “I’m sorry.”
“Sometimes I wonder what kind of a mother she would have been if she had been given the chance. What she would think of me.”
“She would have loved you,” Leon said simply. You smiled at him and raised up on your tiptoes to kiss his cheek. “Why now, though? Did something come up with your father or--”
“No, no, nothing like that.”
“Y/N?”
“I love you,” you said, stopping just outside your bedroom door. “You do know that, don’t you?” Leon let out a confused laugh.
“Of course I know that. I love you, too,” he said, placing his hands on your arms. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Nothing right now.”
“Y/N,” he said quietly. He looked up and down the corridor, and though he found it empty, he led you into your chambers. You sat down on the seat at the edge of your bed and let out a breath. “What’s going on?”
“I stopped by the doctor today.”
“Alright.”
“Because I hadn’t been feeling well the last few weeks,” you said, placing a hand to your stomach.
“I remember,” Leon said, crouching in front of you, “And what did the doctor say?”
“Leon,” you began, a smile on your face, before then tears began to fall from your eyes. He was there in an instant, sitting down next to you, taking you in his arms as he wiped your tears.
“My love, what is it?”
“I’m pregnant,” you said, your voice thick with tears. Leon was silent for a moment. You pulled out of his arms and looked up at him. His mouth was open just a little and his eyes were beginning to fill with tears, too.
“You’re pregnant?” he asked. You nodded. “Are you absolutely positive?”
“The doctor confirmed it this morning.”
“That’s wonderful news, isn’t it?” he asked, taking you in his arms.
“It is, but . . .”
“But what?”
“After what happened with my own mother, I’m scared,” you admitted. Leon nodded his head, letting you get all your worries out. “And even if I don’t end up like her, I don’t know the first thing about being a mother. I’m terrified I’ll do everything wrong.”
“I think that means you already are one,” he said gently, his thumb rubbing circles against your skin. “You are already concerned about our child, about raising them right, even before they are here. That’s what parents are supposed to do.
“You are going to be an amazing mother, Y/N, I am positive of it. And I promise, I will do whatever I can, travel wherever I must, in order to make sure that you are there to see our child throughout their entire life. We will get through this and be a happy family. Together.”
“Are you sure?” you asked. “You’re not scared?”
“Of course I’m scared. I’m terrified. But I know that we can do this. That together, you and I can do this, and we will raise the most perfect child.”
“I love you,” you said, putting a hand to his cheek.
“I love you. Please don’t ever feel like you need to hide your worries from me. I will always listen to them and do whatever I can to put you at ease. That is what I promised when I married you, and I intend to keep my word.”
You leaned in to kiss him, holding his face to yours. When you pulled away, you both had tears in your eyes, but the were ones of happiness, of hope.
“I love you,” you said again. “Our child is so lucky to have you for a father.”

Warnings: none, pure fluff
Tumblr media
“I’m telling you,” Gwaine said between fits of laughter, “you can’t even imagine his face when he saw what colour Merlin had turned his hair.”
You reached back to swat his chest. “You should have told me! I wanted to see that as well.”
Gwaine leaned forward, draping his strong arms over your shoulders. His face was almost directly beside yours, and his hair brushed against your cheek. “Sorry, love. Next time, I’ll ask Merlin to send you an invitation.”
You leaned back against his chest with a happy sigh, patting his thigh. “You better, pretty boy, or I’m holding you accountable.”
“Oh, we wouldn’t want that now, would we?”
Despite knowing he couldn’t see your face, you raised an eyebrow. “Are you mocking me, sir Gwaine?”
“I wouldn’t dare,” he whispered, before pressing a kiss to your neck.
Yeah, he was definitely mocking you. But as long as he kept kissing you as well, you couldn’t care less.

The king and queen of Camelot sit at breakfast in the royal chambers, cherishing their morning together before they are required for their duties.
“Oh, that reminds me,” King Arthur says, fork in hand. “The royal clothier is retiring. He has served us for many years, but is getting too old to continue in the position. I shall look among those who serve the nobility for a worthy successor,”
“Why not look in the town?” Queen Guinevere takes a sip from her goblet. “There are many skilled people there. They should not be overlooked just because they have not yet made a name for themselves. We should give them a chance,”
The king smiles at his wife. “You’re right. The common people should have the opportunity to shine. Would you like to see to it, or shall I?”
Knowing that Arthur’s version of him ‘seeing to it’ would be to send out his manservant to do it for him, the queen decides against it.
“I shall go. I would like to see how our people in the city fair. I haven’t been to the lower town for some time,”
~
Having just reorganized the shelves where the fabrics are stored and displayed, you sweep the floor, gathering any dust and threads that may have fallen during your time tidying. Once a neat pile is formed, you return the broom into the back room and reach for a dustpan and brush, when you hear the familiar jingle of your doorbell, alerting you that someone has entered your shop.
Hastily brushing off your dress with your hands, you step into the small shop front, to see the finest lady who has ever entered your humble establishment. Not just any lady either, but the Queen of Camelot herself. You stare at her dumbfounded for a moment, before lowering into a deep curtsy.
“How may I be of service, my queen?”
“Please, there is no need for such formality,” The queen beckons for you to stand. “What is your name?”
You tell her.
The queen smiles. “Well, (Y/N), I would like you to make me a new gown,”
Her words strike you with utter disbelief, and you’re surely standing with mouth ajar, like a gaping fish.
“Is that something you could do?” The queen asks, jolting you out of your paralysed state.
“Of course my lady, it would be an honour to fashion a new gown for you. Although I am not sure if I stock any fabrics fine enough,”
“I shan’t know until I have seen what you have. Shall we take a look?” she gestures to the fabric shelf behind the counter.
“Of course,” You lead her to the display. “As you can see, it is mostly wool and linen. Any finer fabrics I have are in small lengths, for bodices and girdles and such,”
The queen peruses the fabrics, handling some between her fingers to inspect them. Her dark eyes look over the various bolts, before resting on one on the lower shelf.
“What about this?” She reaches for a silvery-purple velvet.
“Oh yes,” You say, bending down to slide out the bolt. “This was for a wedding gown for a merchant’s daughter. Unfortunately, the wedding was called off,”
“That is sad indeed,” The queen says. “Do you think you might use the fabric for something else?”
“Honestly, no. It has been sitting there for some time. You see, I usually don’t work with such fine fabrics. I just don’t get those sort of customers,”
“Well, then it seems fate has decided,” The queen smiles. “I would like my new gown to be made with it,”
“Yes, my lady,” You pick up the bolt and place it on a nearby table. “Do you have a particular style of gown and trimmings in mind? If not, I can draw up some ideas,”
“I think I would like you to surprise me,”
Her answer is unexpected, filling you with nervousness but also excitement. “Very well, my lady. I will just need to take your measurements, then I can get started right away,”
You show her to the back room and close the door once you’re both inside. Taking out a tape measure, your sewing journal and a quill and ink, you take the queen’s measurements, marking the numbers down in the journal. Once that is complete, you wish each other good day.
Once the queen of Camelot steps out of your shop, you exhale, releasing tension you didn’t realise you were holding. The whole encounter hardly feels like it even happened.
~
For the next two days, you work on the queen’s gown. First, you sketch a number of designs until you come up with one you’re pleased with. Then you draft the pattern, before sewing a calico mock-up of the gown. On the morning of the third day, the mock-up is ready for a test fitting, so you place it carefully in a wicker basket you usually use for shopping at the market, along with your case of dressmaking tools.
You trudge your way up the muddy streets of the lower city, legs aching from the incline, when you finally reach Camelot castle.
You pass through the portcullis and over the bridge, finding yourself in a large courtyard. You look around in wonder at the grand, snowy-white walls of the palace, never having seen a structure so ornate. Yes, you have of course seen a view of the turrets from a distance in the lower town, but it doesn’t compare to seeing it up-close.
Once you’ve taken in the sights, it occurs to you that you have no idea where to go. Turning on the spot, you attempt to identify entrances into the castle. Would it be most proper to find a servant’s entrance? Perhaps you should find someone who looks like a servant to help you. You’re about to single out someone in the courtyard when footsteps approach you from behind. You whirl around to see a man dressed in chainmail and a scarlet cloak: a knight of Camelot. You have seen them come and go through the lower town, both on foot and on horseback. You’d often watch them as they passed, wondering what sights they might see on their patrols and quests throughout the kingdom.
The knight has dark, shoulder length hair that waves at the ends, and facial hair, a length somewhere between stubble and a short beard.
“Do you need some help?” He asks. “You look a little lost,”
“I need to see the queen,” You reply.
“And what business might you have with the queen of Camelot?” He asks in a way not at all accusatory or suspicious, but as a general inquiry.
“The queen has tasked me with making a new gown for her. I have come to conduct a fitting,”
He nods, your reason accepted. “I can take you to her. Here,” He reaches for the handle of your basket and takes it from your grasp.
“There’s no need for you to carry that, sir. I can manage,” You move to take the basket back.
The knight pulls his arm away so you can’t reach it. “And there’s no need to call me sir. The name’s Gwaine,”
“A pleasure to meet you, Gwaine. I am (Y/N),”
“Well met,” He smiles. “Shall we go?” He inclines his head toward a staircase across the courtyard.
You follow your guide into the castle and up a narrow flight of stairs. As you pass through a corridor, he turns his head to you.
“I haven’t seen you around here before. Have you been in Camelot long?” He asks, maintaining his stride.
“A couple years,” You reply, keeping pace. “I still can’t believe the queen visited my shop to commission a gown,”
“That is quite the honour,” Gwaine says, turning a corner and leading you down another passage, before halting in front of a double door. “Here we are. Let’s see if she’s in,”
He knocks upon the door thrice.
“Enter,” a feminine voice says from within.
Gwaine opens the door and pokes his head inside. “(Y/N) to see you about a dress,”
He steps aside and gestures for you to enter.
“Good luck,” He smiles as he hands you your basket and heads back the way he came.
You step into the royal chambers, where the queen stands beside a rectangular table, two windows in the wall behind her flooding the room with light.
“Please come inside,” The queen says with a smile.
“Thank you my lady,” You come forward a few steps. “I have made a mock-up version of your gown, so that I may conduct a fitting. Then I can see if any adjustments need to be made before I start on the actual gown,”
“Of course. You may set your things down here,” She gestures to the table.
You place your basket down and retrieve the dress, a box of pins and a piece of chalk from within it. The queen shows you to the left of the room, where a double archway leads into a bedchamber. A large, four poster bed is positioned against the back wall. On the adjacent wall is a stained glass window with a writing desk in front. Against the wall opposite the bed is a full length mirror beside a wardrobe and a wooden privacy screen, which the queen steps behind.
“Do you need some assistance getting undressed, my lady?”
“Yes, thank you. Just with the back fastenings,”
She sweeps her curly, dark brown locks over her shoulder so you can access said fastenings. Once they are all undone, she does the rest, removing the gown so she is just in her shift. You help her into the mock-up gown and pin it closed at the back.
“Turn around please, my lady,”
The queen does as you say, and you inspect the fit of the gown. You place pins here and there, where adjustments need to be made, and make some markings with chalk. Once you are satisfied, you help her undress.
“If you have the time, my lady, I’d like to make these adjustments now, so we can try it on again in a few moments,”
“I have time,” She gestures to the table for you to sit down, while she opens the wardrobe and retrieves a crossover robe, which she slips on over her shift. She then joins you at the table, sitting at the other end to give you space to work.
“It still seems so strange having someone else make my clothes for me,” She says.
You glance up from your work.
“I used to be in your place now, making gowns for… well…” She trails off.
“Do you ever miss how things used to be?” You ask, as you weave your needle in and out of the fabric.
The queen looks to the side thoughtfully.
“I’m sorry,” You say quickly. “That’s probably a silly question,”
“No, not at all,” The queen smiles reassuringly. “There are some things I miss about those days. As a servant, I could pass through the castle and go completely unnoticed. You can’t go anywhere like that as queen. Everyone’s eyes are on you at all times, like they’re waiting for you to slip up, make a mistake,”
You nod as you listen to her answer. “That must be difficult,”
“It can be,” She agrees. “But one thing I definitely don’t miss is hauling buckets of water up flights of stairs to fill my mistress’ bathtub,”
You laugh. “Indeed. Hopefully one day someone works out a better system,”
You finish off your stitch, snipping off the end with scissors.
“The adjustments are made, if you’d like to try it on again?”
You both return to the screen and you repeat the process from before, pinning the gown closed and having her turn around. You look over the garment, smoothing and tugging some areas, until you step back, satisfied.
You help the queen out of the mock-up gown and back into her regular gown, before you pack the mock-up and your sewing tools back into the basket.
“I will get to work with the velvet right away. It should be ready in a few days,”
“Wonderful,” The queen replies. “But please do not rush yourself. I have no deadline to meet,”
You give a small curtsy and leave the royal chambers, tracing your steps back to the courtyard, thankfully not getting lost on the way. Once you’re in familiar ground again, you make your way home in good time.
~
You spend the next few days working on the queen’s gown, your focus entirely on that task, since you don’t have any other work at the moment. Truth be told, your business hasn’t been doing so well, and you’ve been starting to think you might have to find more work. But this job for the queen should help to at least give you more time to figure something out.
Four days pass and the gown is finally finished. As you look over your creation, you believe it is your finest work yet. Once you’ve made yourself some lunch, you wrap the gown in paper, and carry the parcel up to the castle.
With no knight to guide you this time, you make your own way across the courtyard and up the steps, entering the castle to climb stairs and walk down corridors, until you make it to the royal chambers. You rap on the door and the queen greets you a moment later, beckoning you inside.
“It is finished, my lady,” You hold out the parcel in front of you. “Would you like to try it on?”
“I would love to,” The queen presses the palms of her hands together excitedly.
You follow her to the dressing screen and help her out of her current gown and into the new. Once it’s all fastened, she steps over to the large mirror by the wardrobe and gasps once she sees her reflection.
“(Y/N), this is absolutely beautiful,” She turns her body from side to side, looking at every angle, before shooting an ecstatic grin your way.
“If there is anything at all you would like changed or adjusted, just say the word,”
“Oh no, this is perfect,” She strides toward you, taking your hands in hers. “You are very skilled, (Y/N), you should be immensely proud of your work,”
Warmth flushes your cheeks at the compliment. “Thank you, my lady,”
“I won’t wear it today, since I’ve already been seen about the castle wearing something else. I don’t want to appear as a frivolous queen who changes her gown five times a day,” She grins. “I’ll wear it to the council meeting tomorrow, I think. If you can help me back into my other gown, I have something I want to discuss with you,”
You join the queen behind the screen again to help her undress. Once she’s back in her previous gown, she leads you to the table and you sit down together.
“Tell me, (Y/N), are you happy with your current situation in the lower town?”
Taken aback at the question, you’re unsure what to say.
“Please, be honest,” The queen says. “Is your shop doing well? Can you get by comfortably?”
You look down at your hands in your lap. “Truthfully, my lady, business is not so good,”
She gives you a sympathetic look. “I don’t mean to make you uncomfortable by asking you. I just wanted an idea what your situation was, before I made you any offer,”
“Offer?”
“I am very pleased with your work, (Y/N), and that is why I want to offer you the position of Royal Clothier,”
You stare, gobsmacked. “Me?”
“Yes, you,” She smiles. “I understand this is no small thing. If you accept, you would move into your own chambers in the castle. You would leave behind your current home and shop. However, as royal clothier, you will not need to rent your rooms as they come with the position. The chambers are fully furnished and well-lit, perfect for needlework,”
You listen intently, trying to absorb every word of what the queen is saying. No more worrying about making rent, no more hunching over your work in a dingy room, no more fretting about if and when the next job might come along.
“I know this is a lot to take in, so I don’t expect you to answer right away. You may have a few days to think it over,”
“I don’t need to think it over,” You blurt out. Of course you’re scared. It’s a huge change. But you can’t carry on how you are now. You know this has to be a step in the right direction, and not just a step forward, but a step up. “I accept the position,”
“That’s wonderful!” The queen grins. “Of course you must have a few days to pack up your belongings. Please let me know if you need any help, I can arrange for someone to assist you,”
“I don’t have much to move,” You admit. “I will be able to manage on my own. Thank you for your kindness my lady. I cannot express how much it means to me to be given this opportunity,”
The queen takes your hand in hers. “You deserve for your skill to be recognised, (Y/N). I am more than happy to help with that,”
Overcome from this kindness, you find it hard to keep your emotions in check.
“I can see that I’ve quite overwhelmed you,” The queen says, standing up. “I should let you get back home,”
You stand as well. “Thank you again, my lady. You can expect me in two days’ time. I won’t need any more,”
“Excellent,” She leads you to the door, and opens it partially, looking back at you. “Just one more thing, (Y/N). My name is Guinevere, but my friends call me Gwen, and I would like us to be friends,”
You smile. “So I should call you Gwen?” You confirm.
“Exactly. No need to call me my lady. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that,”
~
You make it back to the lower town at an alarming rate, your elated mood adding a spring in your step and speed to your gait.
Beginning your descent down the main street, a flash of scarlet ahead catches your eye. Four of Camelot’s knights on horseback are heading your way at a leisurely trot. You scan their faces, three of which you do not recognise, but the fourth you realise is the knight you met a few days ago, Sir Gwaine. Since the knights are riding, they are soon at your position in the street, three of the four passing by. Sir Gwaine slows his horse and comes to a halt, dismounting. He leads the horse by its reins and comes your way, greeting you with a smile.
“You look very pleased,” He says, stopping a few feet from you. “How goes your quest for the queen?”
You break into a smile. “She offered me the position of royal clothier, and I accepted,”
“Congratulations,” He grins, his delight seeming genuine. “I suppose I’ll be seeing you around, then?”
“Yes, I suppose you will. I will be living in the castle,”
“You’re moving up in the world,” He says, stroking his horse’s flank. “Anyway, I’d better get back. Duty calls. Until next time,” He gives a small wave and mounts his horse again.

BBC Merlin: Arthur cuddling headcanons?
Yes, a thousand times YES
Cuddling Arthur Pendragon
He is a clingy thing, no matter how much he tries to hide it. This man is touch starved. One hug and he wants to spend all day cuddling in bed.
Little spoon, I won't hear anyone out! He loves being the little spoon.
In the early morning he will not let go. Expect him to complain everytime his cuddling session is disturbed.
Hates to cuddle while wearing a shirt, he likes the skin to skin contact. Also loves shoulder massages to the point of melting and heavily sleeping.
No public hugs, he panics. It's too personal and he feels like someone is witnessing a sacred thing. Cuddles are very much private.
When he is angry or frustrated, cuddling immediatly makes him feel better. Sometimes he just barges in the bedroom, without saying a word, and demands cuddling sessions with a pout on his lips.
When he has to be the big spoon he is really careful with his strength. Arthur is so gentle that his touch almost feels like feathers.
